Body Armor 4 Your PSP By A304GUEPCPYM3Z on 2006-12-06
This is a clear, polycarbonate case to protect your precious investment. It is very similar to the very popular Logitech Playgear Pocket. Both cases are made of a highly durable, clear polycarbonate material. Both are form-fitting, with access holes in the right places that allows you to play with your PSP while it is safely protected inside the case. The Sony PSP Travel Case is a little bit larger than the Logitech. Inside the case is a specially formed rubber material that holds your PSP securely. This material helps protect your console from external shock. It is larger than the Logitech due to the fact that it has room to carry two UMDs inside.
I chose this case over the Logitech because it has a screen protector that is built into the case. This screen protector also holds down your PSP and keeps it in place even when the case cover is open. As long as the screen protector is closed and locked down, the PSP will not fall out even if you turn the case upside down with the case cover open. In my view, this is an important extra measure of protection. These cases were designed to hold the PSP at all times. They have access holes in the right places so that you can play with your PSP while it is safely inside.
At first, it will be awkward to operate your PSP while it's in the case. The open cover can sometimes touch the knuckles of your third finger while you're holding the case. And the case is heavy. If you're used to operating a naked PSP, the extra mass will take some time to get used to. However, think of it as body armor for your Sony. Just as a real bullet-proof body armor can save the life of the person wearing it, this case can save the functionality of your PSP. Basically, the biggest threat to your PSP is getting dropped. It only takes one drop, one accident, to turn an elegant PSP into a broken brick. I view my Sony PSP as a long-term equipment and therefore, not something disposable. I am willing to take the time and allow myself to get used to the case. There is a trade-off between convenience and protection. It is up to you to decide where that trade-off is for you.
I have not performed a "drop test" on the unit. I cannot tell you that your PSP will survive a five-foot drop on pavement. There are way too many variables and too many things can happen that affect whether your PSP will survive an accidental drop. I have not performed the "careless 200-pound younger brother who accidentally sat on my PSP" test. The only test I've done is to stack a 50-pound pile of books on top of an empty case to see if it will break. I'm happy to say that the case survived just fine. The anecdotal experience of one user doesn't mean that your experience will have the same outcome. The best advice is to always be aware of where you choose to operate your PSP. Standing in the middle of a concrete driveway while playing a game is always a bad idea. That scenario presents too many opportunities for you to drop your unit. And it's not reasonable to think that your polycarbonate case is guaranteed to keep the PSP safe in the event of every accident. If you only play with your PSP while sitting on the living room couch, then it may be overkill to keep it in this case at all times. Where you play, how careful you are, and how much you value your Sony will determine the level of protection you need.
It's a Good Case By A3P82ZMSDPHY0G on 2007-01-03
I bought both the Logitech and the Sony polycarbonate cases. While I like the idea of the added polycarbonate screen protector (which was nicely designed to rest just above the PSP screen so not to directly touch it), the holders for 2 UMDs and 2 Memory Sticks, and the strategically placed rubber bumpers, I have to say that in my opinion, the Logitech case wins out by a nose.
The Sony case does hold the PSP tighter, and with the screen protector in place, it will not allow the PSP to fall out. This could be a major deciding factor for some folks. However, my issue with the screen protector is that it is way too difficult to disengage from covering the PSP (basically you are supposed to push in the latch, but the case is so "form fitting" that there is no extra room for the PSP to move so as to let the latch unhook). This makes it much more of a pain to change out UMDs because neither case will let you do that without removing the PSP from the case.
The other issue I have noted with the Sony case that does not occur with the Logitech case is that the opening for the headphone jack on the Sony case is located just slightly off from where it needs to be (it is too high). This has the unfortunate effect of forcing you to raise the PSP in the case slightly, which for me puts the PSP screen in contact with the polycarbonate screen protector (a scratch just waiting to happen). It is possible that my case is slightly defective, and that others have not had this problem, but since I did, it has to be part of my review.
So all in all, I think the Sony PSP Travel Case is definitely worthy, and if you won't be changing UMDs frequently, I think it is very comparable to the Logitech case. However, the difficulty in disengaging the screen protector and the issue with the headphone jack opening makes the Sony case my second choice for my PSP.
A comparison of Sony PSP and Logitech Cases By A30WFGK7T9DYSB on 2007-01-05
- Identical length and width; the Sony PSP case sits about .5 inches higher when closed
- Logitech case has a stiff lid, meaning you can open it partially like a car sun visor to keep out light if in the sun; Sony case lid is completely loose
- Sony case has screen protector that, as previously mentioned, absorbs some scratches and is difficult to open
- Sony case lid has space for two UMD games/movies and memory stick
- Sony case has rubber feet in strategic places, such as on lid lip when propped open to view a movie (great for airplanes in turbulence)
I have used both and as a traveler prefer this case; I can watch movies on a tray table without the PSP sliding around and can pack two games/movies plus any MP4 videos on a memory stick in the same case. Airplanes are typically darker so I don't notice the scratches on the screen guard at all either. Your needs might be different, which would make the Logitech case a better choice for you.
This case has Guts! By A2RV2488RTNDD7 on 2008-01-09
For Xmas I received a PSP 2000 (PSP Slim) as a gift and wanted to protect my investment. After reviewing many cases for the PSP I chose this case. I liked the idea of being able to hold extra UMDs and Memory Cards and also hold my PSP securely in place while using it in the case. This case does all of these things exceptionally.
My only issue with the case was that the PSP 2000 is too small to have the screen latch in place securely. Other users suggested placing a small piece of fabric to make the PSP 2000 fit more snuggly and latch the screen in place. I tried this and ended up damaging the screen. The fabric was too bulky (my fault) and caused the screen to press against the top of the case and the UMDs I had in it and I now have 2 deep, round scratches in the case's screen. My PSP 2000 screen is still perfect though but it is hard to see the screen through the scratches. I did, however, find an alternate means of getting the PSP 2000 to fit snuggly into this case and protect it even better.
Sony PlayStation Portable Slim (PSP) JAVOSkin - The Soft Low-Profile Case (Black) is a glove for your PSP 2000 ONLY! This combined with the PSP Travel Case makes the PSP 2000 fit snug and helps protect the PSP even better.
As for the Headphone slot, just take an ice pick and heat it up and melt a hole big enough to fit your headphones in. I also read about the screen being hard to unlatch due to the fact that the PSP fits so snuggly that it doesn't give you enough room to open it without fear of damaging your screen. I have never had this problem. Maybe it is because I open the latched screen a different way. Instead of pressing the latch against the PSP, I press the bottem of the PSP (where the power jack on the right and the lanyard loop on the left is) up with my thumbs away from the latch while placing my index fingers against the case right next to the right and left bumpers. This pops the latch out of place due to loss of pressure (which is what keeps the latch in place).
This case has been through Hell and back! I'm in the Army in Iraq and carry my PSP wherever I go. It sits in my pocket and when I get some downtime I can pull my PSP out and watch a movie or play a game. The case has deep scratches on it, stains and has been slammed by my rifle as well as sat on, kicked, dropped, thrown (bad temper), and basically overly abused. When I remove my PSP to change out UMDs or remove sand from it I can't help but admire that fact that my PSP is still in mint condition, dispite all it has been through.
Bottem line: "A great case that can take a lot of abuse"
Don't buy if you have a PSP Slim. By A2INDBHQCXDSL3 on 2008-01-23
I recommend not purchasing this item as a bundle with the new PSP Slim. Amazon should of pointed this out, that the New PSP Slim does not fit snuggly in the case. I have drop this case twice and the PSP will fall out.
I guess they(Amazon) expect people to buy it, then write a review about it. Instead of making Better quality insurance of the product, telling the consumer it "DOES NOT WORK WELL WITH THE NEW PSP SLIM".
- Works with the PSP Slim
     By A2XZKFJKA6LHX6 on 2007-10-05
I bought this as a temporary fix to hold my PSP slim until cases specifically for the slim were made. Well, still haven't found one, so I kept this case.
Though made for the original PSP, the slim fits pretty well. The case screen doesn't *snap* shut, but the weight of the slim keeps it in place. MOST of the holes line up except for the headphone jack, which is completely covered by the case. This can be rectified by simply cutting out the small piece of the case that covers the headphone jack (a metal knife heated on a stove burner worked great!).
If you want a case to double as a stand, which was a must for me, then this case will work great for a slim; just make sure you make the necessary "adjustments" if you want to use headphones, like on a plane or something. It also holds 2 games and 2 sticks, so that plus what you hold in the PSP itself means you've got 3 disks and sticks to switch between.
Now that I've altered it a bit, this case is perfect; I have no need to look for slim-specific cases.
- Meh - I kinda of regret buying this
     By A22XYEC1DQNQJV on 2007-06-15
The case does not come with instructions. The PSP locks in fast and securely - good luck getting it out though, which is an extreme pain in the @$$ when you want to swap out UMDs.
The reason I regret buying this is that in order to retrieve your PSP from its clutches, you must press inwards on the overlapping protective plastic "shield" at the same spot you press to open the case entirely. Then you have to - while pressing inward - lift the shield.
While this sounds easy and has been performed on other items, this case is more than just a little tough. It took 3 of us to figure out exactly where to push and how hard - which was a ridiculous amount.
Now keep in mind you are pushing inward towards your PSP while you are lifting the shield over the screen. If you are not careful and even if you go slow - this WILL SCRATCH THE SCREEN because you pushing a hard edge of plastic towards the surface of your PSP.
The whole point this item was now pretty much moot.
The fact that it flips opens to make a little stand so I can watch movies was tiny comfort when added in that the power input has a hard time getting to the port when the PSP is inside the case.
The grips on the case are well laid out and I feel confident holding them. The storage area for 2 UMDS is a good use of space.
A diagram would have been nice and possibly even prevented the scratch.
- not good
     By A6NM3UWWIPD4R on 2007-01-02
If you want to protect your PSP, buy the logitech playgear pocket which is very similar and better than this one despite that it can hold two UMDs and memory sticks. As the previous reviewer mentioned the case's protection as being "bulletproof", trust me, it isn't. I accidently dropped my PSP (in the case) one day on the floor(thank God it didn't brake because it fell on carpet). You would think the PSP wolud securly stay in the case, but the first thing it did as soon as it hit the floor was open up and have the PSP hit the floor too. If it fell on a harder surface, the PSP would have broken and I guarantee you that.
Also, the screen protector that holds the PSP in place gets scratches VERY easily. I only had it for about a week and it started to get so many scratches that i couldnt even see the PSP screen through the screen protector, only if i was in the dark. And you not see anything at all under direct sunlight because of all the scratches. I then realized that the screen protector's main purpose was to keep the PSP in the case. If ypu want a good screen protector, buy a pelican screen guard that attaches to the screen making it look brand new and scratchless by getting rid of your old scratches. But if you want a "bulletproof" case, purchase the logitech playgear pocket which is alot smaller and lighter, and it gives your PSP the protection it deserves. My cousin has the logitech case and trust me, you wont be dissapointed with it if you buy it.
- It may look good...
     By A3T459F1J6WSEJ on 2007-10-13
This case may look good, and sound good, but it is inherently flawed. Other reviews have stated that the screen cover is difficult to take off--they were not exaggerating. I'm just glad I tried it out before I put my PSP inside the case, because I would have damaged my PSP removing it. The only way I could release the screen involved jamming a screw driver into the latch. The case will not close properly if the screen cover is removed. Also, I found that, once I got the case to close properly, I could not open it up again without using excessive force. You would think that, since the case is made by Sony for the Sony PSP, it would be ideal...but this case is far, far more trouble than it is worth. Get a different case.
- Too difficult to open...
     By A1RRLGRKVI7U4M on 2007-04-18
Let me first say that I am not a swearing man. Swearing, in my opinion, is one of the lowest forms of expression. However, trying to open this case, with the screen visor locked in, got me swearing like a sailor on a scurvy pirate ship. I finally managed to unlock the case by prying it open with a phillips head screw driver (not making this up).
My suggestion to everyone who purchased one of these: In order to open the case more easily, remove the screen visor (it snaps out easily out of it's hinge). After that, purchase an adhesive screen protector instead.
I STRONGLY recommend investing in a HORI PSP Screen Protector, from Amazon. You may also wish to file down the case hole next to the headphone jack, as it it quite difficult to insert a headphone cable inside the case.
I regret not purchasing the Logitech case, instead. However, I modified this case a bit, making it more than suitable.
- Almost great bout one serious flaw
     By AXNRZ23U38B18 on 2007-01-22
This case could be a great thing but for one brain dead bit of design, when the psp is snugly in the case you can't plug headphones in. There is a hole in the case for it but the actual headphone plug in the psp does not line up with the hole. Disappointing. If you won't need the headphones then this case is nice.
- A Little Extra Insurance for Your PSP
     By A22URB0Y1M6KTO on 2007-05-24
Well, you have to have this case if you are planning on keeping your valuable PSP working after a accident or fall! Its cheap and affordable, so why not put a little insurance on your entertainment. It prevents bumps, scratches and, even at times, the safety of the whole thing. The case is a stylish fit and I heartedly recommend it for anyone who owns a PSP.
- bulky but fragile
     By A3HCXW993IPMSR on 2007-06-28
this is a quite bulky but fragile case. I do not know if there are better options, but this one is not great. First, the lid is already after broken half a day after I bought it, the connecting rod slips out of its socket, so now half of the case is a little unstable. The screen protection is a great idea, separating the console storage space and the game disc storage, but often I find it hard to release the clipped-down plastic piece, and I am in constant fear that the yanking, pressing and pulling will eventually scratch the screen and leave a big mark. May be it is better to buy a softer version. And why should a "travel" case be so bulky instead of more portable? It is over priced in store. Buying on Amazon and other discounted sources is recommended!
- GOOD BUY!, works on the PSP Slim
     By A26JWIVG4FP8FG on 2007-11-19
The sony travel casse is a must have to protect your 160-200+ dollar investment, it works for the slim but the headphon jack doesnt line up (you could probably use an ice pick heated by the stove) the screen protector works well and i give this item a 5, out of 5
- Not for Slim
     By A3U40YYOICFBL1 on 2008-01-26
This case is not for the PSP Slim model. It is made for the original (larger) model so my Slim does not fit securely. I am able to make it work by using the screen cover as a "strap" to secure it. I basically jam the screen cover latch in between the case and the PSP.
- It protects your psp, but...
     By A1136I45PH2818 on 2007-01-17
Sure, the polycarbonate casing and foam-ish interior will probably protect your psp when you drop it and the room for the umds and memory sticks are nice, but it also adds about an inch to the psp, making it both heavy and hardly portable. As for the screen protector, I can't really say whether it's a plus or minus since I also have a pelican screen protector already on the screen, but it does serve the purpose of holding the psp in tightly - maybe a bit too much. It's a pain in the but to have to unclip the case every time I want to switch games or movies, so I just keep the screen protector flipped back when I'm using my psp and snap it back in place when I put it away.
To sum it up, I would personally go with the logitech case based on what I've heard about it, but if it isn't available this case is a pretty good case to go with if you don't mind the excess bulk.
3.5/5.0
- Enhanced Version of Logitech PlayGear Pocket
     By A3Q0G2M6GSN4IT on 2007-03-24
This is actually the enhanced versoin of Logitech PlayGear Pocket. Not sure if SONY ask Logitech to design this enhanced model. If you know about PimpMyPSP by Logitech which you can customize your cover, this SONY PSP Travel Case has the exact dimension for those customize stickers. I have both logitech and this sony case. I can tell you that nothing is perfect. SONY provides the best protection while sacraficing the weight and thickness. Logitech is a more prototype version which provides lighter weight. With only 12.93 on 3/23/2007, I'll choose SONY over Logitech's due to the extra storage space for UMDs and Memory Sticks, rubber feet for standing PSP up straight, and also the screen visor without physical contact with the PSP screen.
- Great armor, but too much hassle...
     By AA3M82C7KSBPR on 2007-04-15
When I saw the Sony Travel Case, I thought I had something more advance than the Logitech PlayGear Pocket in my hands. I was incorrect...don't get me wrong, the thing is a suit of armor for the PSP and with every suit of armor, there comes a couple of flaws. The screen protector is a pain in the behind trying to snap off(release from it's latch) so I can put an UMD into my PSP. Second, the audio input is 1/4 covered up by the case making it also a pain trying to insert a headphone jack into it. You can lift up the PSP a little and be able to insert the jack that way, but the case pinches the headphone jack due to the weight and pressure of the case and PSP.
Those can be minor defects to the case design and can be overlooked with patience and being inventive. As far as the Audio input hole goes, you can shave or drill a part out of the case to where it gives it more space to insert a headphone jack. As far as the screen protector being a pain to release from covering the PSP...I have no idea!
I have both the Logitech PGP and this Sony Travel Case, I would recommend going with the Logitech product unless you can oversee Sony's case design flaws!
- PSP travel case
     By A3JFX11UTL9GXI on 2007-07-09
Great product. I was looking for something with a little storage capability and this has it. It stores up to 2 games and 4 memory cards. It also folds into a stand that holds your psp so you can view movies without holding the psp. It may be a little clunky but it does the job and more. I would recomend this to anyone.
- Doesn't fit PSP2000 well
     By A2S7QVURSMEZ53 on 2007-11-24
Sony needs to release a new version of this case. It does allow you to protect your PSP2000 but its a little lose in the case, and you can't connect ear phones while its in the case. They moved the ear phone jack on the PSP2000 and its doesn't line up with any of the access holes.
Its still a good case for its protection value, but don't exepect the holes to line up with all the ports on the PSP2000.
- Well worth the money
     By AKIGOUPTB86KZ on 2008-04-15
You've read the other reviews. Snug, form-fitting rubber. A screen to protect the PSP screen. You can play games with the PSP in the case. All true. The big minus? The headphone jack is covered up, so you can't just listen to phones with the PSP in the case. That's a minor problem.
Does it protect the PSP? Most definitely. I've had too horrible dropping incidents. The PSP was in the case both times. Both times the case came open and the PSP came out. Both times the PSP was unharmed. It would have been better if the case didn't open, but the way I see it, the case took the brunt of the impact, it opened and the PSP kinda slid out. (That's fairly accurate as to how both incidents played out.) The PSP travel case saved the PSP. I have not had a single problem due to the drops.
Get this is you want to protect your system. In fact, I think it's as essential as a charger and Memory Sticks.
- A Great Case for the PSP
     By A15HDQ2BI4ZYNB on 2007-04-19
I've looked at several different cases for the PSP, but this one is one of the best. However, please note that this game is NOT designed for playing the PSP while it is still in the case, despite it having a clear screen protector. This case is as heavy as the PSP is by itself, and quite a bit more awkward than the psp to hold (at least when the case is open).
This cases weight comes from the fact that this game is designed to protect your PSP. I still wouldn't want to drop it, for any reason, but that's the main reason I bought the case in the first place (and should be the primary reason for you as well).
The case has two slots on the top for UMD discs, and two more slots for a couple of Pro Duo memeory sticks, all of which are held in place fairly snugly, but aren't hard to get out.
Some have written that it would have been nice to hav the headphones slot accessible while the case is closed, but I think this is somewhat of a moot point. If you're using your PSP for a lot of music, you aren't getting the most out of your PSP (which is all I have to say on that subject). However, the case does leave the power port open, which is handy for charging it while you sleep.
If you're looking for a good case to protect your PSP, as well as carry some essentials, look no further. However, if your looking to protect your PSP while your playing it...look for a good screen protector like the "Sony PSP HORI Protective Filter" and leave it at that.
- " Not that good "
     By APEPL9Z7GX31H on 2007-04-30
the travel case does provide good protection to the psp. the polycarbonate screen guard is great. it keeps the psp screen from getting scrathes but the protecter it self gets scrathced easily. it also provides 2 umd storage and 2 memory cards can be placed. the bad thing is the case adds weight to the psp. that makes it uncombtrable. its also hard to grip. i got a blister on my hand my accidently scrathing my self on the corner of this case. the matireal isnt soft. so all in all it really is up to you to deside if yuo want it or not.
- The case that everyone wants!
     By A21T0OZ88U36P9 on 2007-05-22
Ok it's time for another review and this product is a treat to talk bout. Partly because everyfunction that this is made for works out perfectly and partly cause everyone admires it. Let me explain some may find this product a little bulky for those people who have limited amounts of space this isn't for you. But for the general public this is the perfect psp case. When you watching movies it stands up as a stand on just bought any object. When your playing games it allows for 2 umds to be placed in the case securly and 2 duo sticks. So that way if it is lost for some odd reason. I lost a case and 4 games, then your not losing to much. It has a built in screen protector that works allot better than most. That doesn't mean that its perfect, it does have a small space that dust can travel under depending on where your taking your psp. Overall i would rate this product as one of the best that i have seen on the market today. Oh and all my friends want it now. Put your trust in this one, like your fiance its a keeper.
- protection and storage in your pocket.. ahhh
     By A3U2ERQJQYGCHS on 2007-06-04
I personally like this travel case. I don't think I have the exact same one that is for sale here (There are 2 different travel cases, one can hold 2 umds and one can hold 2 umds plus 2 memory sticks) I have the latter. It holds my umds and memory sticks without worry of being scratched or even moved. They stick in there pretty good. The rubber armour is everything you would expect it to be. it's sturdy, it feels SOLID and able to withstand many drops to the floor or pavement. This is a good case if you're interested in protecting your PSP while having a little room to carry a couple of games and sticks with you.
It hold 3 UMDs and 3 memory Sticks if you count the 2 inside the PSP.
- Get this protective case, if any
     By A2W437VMA8PMR on 2007-06-18
This is better than the Sony PSP PlayGear Pocket. The latter is more manageable, but does not protect your PSP on a fall, especially the screen.
The Travel Case comes with a protective screen to hold it, it's got a thicker layer of protection, and you can put two discs in the case. The only disadvangage is that it's more cumbersome and somewhat heavier to handle than the Sony PSP PlayGear Pocket.
I got both to see the difference, and I do use the Sony PSP PlayGear Pocket in my house, but for travel always the Travel Case. Get the travel case, if you will only get one protective case.
- Loose Fit
     By AUMGVFDBLIC86 on 2007-06-26
Really good at protecting psp, but doesn't hold it in well at all. It easily falls out. This shouldn't be much of a problem with adults, but don't get it if your psp is used by young kids (who tend to grab it from one another & then the psp falls to the ground). It's a good thing the psp is a sturdy "computer". I do like the fact that you can plug everything in with the lid closed. Oh, if you buy this & have kids playing the psp, take it out of this case first, then no problem.
- Fine for protecting your display screen.
     By AIIKTHO92CIEA on 2007-07-17
Sony's PSP travel case is ok. Does the job.
The space for plugin a jack is miss-placed though (you have to lift the PSP a little to be able to plug it), which is somehow puzzling as both things are made by Sony. I wanted logitech's travel case originally (which has better reviews and was even cheaper), but shippment took longer. I believe they both have the same price now, check around.
- YEAH
     By A3861MXB9Z715F on 2007-07-27
This thing is pretty awsome. But the only problem is, that its alittle too big. almost everything is covered in rubber and no matter how many times i try to scratch the protection screen with a knife it won't penetrate. I even tried dropping it from a 3 story building to see if it would break. Although the plastic cracked my psp is still in perfect condition. I would recommend this for your psp for those noobs out there.
- Awsome
     By A3QZMQKLVV0LP6 on 2007-07-30
This item is awsome for a psp. I bought it cause, my Psp was starting to have some scraches on the screen. This item works better than the screen protectors. This has a plastic screen shield, and also the case is sturdy and dint even break even if it fell down on the hard floor couple of times. Very useful as a psp case. It can also be used as a stand while watching vidoes or movies.
Only bad side is that it feels a little heavy. Other than that, its perfect!
