  • BUY THE NIKON BAG KIT INSTEAD

    By A7F5CUX2GAUVG on 2007-05-23
If you are looking for a spare battery for your D40, I recommend you purchase the Nikon accessory kit instead (comes with a great Nikon camera bag, spare battery identical to this one and a photo guide). It barely costs more than this battery alone and you will get the bag for almost nothing.

  • A preference for the name brand battery

    By A197T2N6RU7K56 on 2007-10-26
I liked the price on amazon, so I bought this Nikon brand battery for my new Nikon D40x 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens. So far, so good. The battery charges fairly fast and lasts a long time.

I'm a firm believer in having at least one extra rechargeable battery for a digital camera. If you take a lot of pictures, you have a good chance of your battery running low while you're out and about. If you don't use the camera often, you might take it to a special occasion without realizing that the battery's getting low. In either case, having a spare fully charged battery will help you avoid the frustration of having a dead camera at the wrong time and place.

I'm okay with paying a few extra bucks for the Nikon branded battery, based on my experience with two "no-name" rechargeables I bought a few years ago for my Nikon Coolpix 7900 camera. The "no-names" cost less than the Nikon brand battery. They charged up and worked just fine at first, and I rotated all 3 batteries through the camera, with roughly equal amounts of use and recharge cycles for the batteries. All rechargeable batteries eventually lose their ability to hold a charge, after going through a number of charge/discharge cycles. In the case of the Coolpix camera, the original Nikon battery outlasted both of the "no-name" generic batteries.

So based on my experience with those batteries, I'm sticking with the Nikon brand for the extra battery for my D40x, because I expect it to last through more charge/discharge cycles over its lifetime than a generic (and cheaper) equivalent battery.

  • New battery fast availability

    By A1QJN466B4G43B on 2007-04-03
This battery just came out, so it was great to find it and at a very good price, very fast shipping.

  • Reliable and long-lasting

    By A1ELMBMIWAG7G2 on 2007-08-31
It charges in less than 90 minutes. It can process over 250 pictures at the highest resolution.

  • good, but expensive

    By A33YZNZIRA3H97 on 2008-02-09
This is a good, reliable battery that last a long time. However, it is expensive. Amazon does sell 3rd party compatible batteries for 1/2 or even 1/3 the price that seem to work just as well. Just search for "EN-EL9".

  • Must have as a backup.
    By A303YO1B5DKTHT on 2007-04-08
I use my 2nd battery as backup on my D40x. Works like a champ.

  • Nikon Battery Charger EN-EL9
    By A2ZD3N1NZRYHXD on 2007-11-29
Easy to use and rapid. Can be used on 220 Volts while travelling abroad and requires only an adapter for the outlets, alhtough I followed Nikon's recommendations and purchased a cord for use on a 220 Volt line. (These cable/cords can be found in stores abroad which sell cameras, electronic appliances and computers)

  • Works like a battery should!
    By A20K9PH4AF5R9P on 2007-07-19
Well, I got this battery in and charged it up right away. Four days and over 800 photos later, the battery finally died. Not bad at all for a trip to Yellowstone!

  • it works perfectly
    By A2ULFTSY6G3E6 on 2007-07-05
just like the factory one that came with my nikon d40x. perfect. just what i wanted

  • Nice battery...
    By A3VEHPRCQEU7U0 on 2007-12-21
This battery seems to have a great life... I have taken at least 500 frames on it and still have a charge! I have not yet had to swithch batteries. Nice value for the money.

  • still waiting
    By A3QVSV6V42PFIH on 2007-12-22
A month later and we haven't had to access this backup battery, the battery that came with the camera still has a good charge after taking hundreds of photos.

  • Nikon D40x Battery
    By AVCBMAMRNK3IE on 2007-12-28
The battery was good. This battery allows me to take a few hundred pictures without being exhausted. The manual says about 500 pictures. I am very happy with the performance of this battery. I use the menuing system alot and thus the LCD display is used alot as am new to my camera and the battery certainly delivers on power requirements.

  • Yes, you need a spare
    By A22GJY9D9ICE0A on 2008-03-17
Yes, you need a charged spare battery to protect you from Murphy's law. Keep the little white, plastic case it comes in to keep it from discharging in your camera bag.

  • Always nice to have a spare
    By A1N67BI472IMKW on 2008-05-26
The charge seems to last forever... hundreds of shots anyway. My first digital camera could only take about 20 shots per battery charge. Things have come a long way!

  • The only backup battery I would buy
    By A1LYO1WHL774E9 on 2008-06-18
I use this in my Nikon D60. The only reason I didn't give this battery 5 stars is that it is a bit pricey. Having said that however, I wouldn't buy any other battery for something as important as my digital camera. I've tried knock-offs before and have been very disapointed. This official Nikon battery however has not disappointed at all. It has a very good life and I never worry in a critial situation.

  • The right way to go
    By A3OM89XJ80PNEI on 2008-06-25
I learned the hard way in the past Buying the cheaper no name replacement batteries. They always seemed to work at first and as time went on they would screw the camera funtions up.

You should spend the extra money for the battery from the camera manufacturer you will know what to expect. There will be no suprises.

When you buy quality it long out lasts the thought of the couple of extra dollars you spent on it.

  • Bad battery?
    By AZVN1KMQA40AL on 2007-06-09
This is probably a complete fluke.

I fully charged the battery as instructed. It lasted one week and 102 pictures. I know these Lithium Ion batteries are supposed to "keep on running" (okay, different brand), but I'll bet they usually last a bit longer than that.

I'm going to give it another shot, so to speak.

    Great price and fast delivery.

  • Nikon Battery
    By A3SBBQXKEV2ON3 on 2007-07-12
Nikon quality at a very good price for use with my d40x. Works as rated and lasts even longer when taken out of the camera when days may intervene with shooting. At this point, I feel that rotating two batteries will meet my shooting needs for some time.

  • Doesn't last long
    By A2NJGIKCJ12X06 on 2007-10-11
I use D40x with 18-200 and 70-200 f/2.8 lenses, the battery doesn't last long and I can't shoot anymore when there is only one bar on the battery. The camera shooter is automatically released. I hope this battery lasts longer.

  • Great addition to my Nikon setup.
    By A1AM274LDW65CA on 2007-10-15
I purchased this as a backup for my primary and found out that it charges a bit quicker than the one that came with the camera and the charge last about the same. So with this battery and the original I can photograph just about continually all day and hope I have enough disk to handle all the shots. Would recommend this one to any serious photographer.

  • Spare battery for Nikon D40 SLR camera
    By A36MOCPQRBI6RZ on 2007-10-27
I'm not sure why I need a spare EN-EL9 battery for my Nikon D40 SLR, which I just got. The reason is that the original last very long, between 300 to 400 shots, depending if you use flash or not. I guess one of the reason was the price. For a OEM battery, Amazon had the best price. I didn't even consider buying a non-Nikon brand. I read about other people having problem with them exploding, not holding a charge, etc. Not worth it. The extra battery gives me the security of not having to worry about loosing a charge away from home. Also the Li-ion battery doesn't loose charge like Ni-cad batteries.

  • Backup battery
    By A3T7Q60QG7YX7V on 2007-11-03
I bought this battery as a backup for my Nikon D40X. I would greatly recommend getting a backup battery unless you feel like waiting for your depleted one to charge. This battery works as it should.

  • Good price and good battery
    By A30SIQNBWQHY8N on 2007-11-29
Amazon had the best price and I had to have the battery in 2 days and they were able to get it to me on time. Good battery. I already had one of these that came with my Nikon D40x unfortunately the repair shop my camera was shipped too accidentally forgot to ship my original battery back with my camera so I found this one on amazon and they had it to me just in time for a photo shoot. These batteries last a long time. Make sure the run them down all the way b/f each charge that way the battery life last longer. Its good to keep 2 of these on hand especially if you are a photographer that way you can let one die completely down and pop in the other one while you are still shooting.

  • Nice and Handy
    By A6YFP4XK4CVSG on 2007-12-28
When I ordered my camera I did not order an extra battery. Do yourself a favor and order an extra one from the beginning. It is always good to have a back-up.

  • Uhhh
    By AUCJFU2VCMRMQ on 2008-01-22
I purchased this item and indicated I wanted it shipped via next day air; however, it was dispatched via regular mail. It took two weeks to receive it. But I did get it and that's the main thing I suppose. Don't want to make a big deal out of it. Live and learn.....

I ordered and received this item within the specified time and I was satisfied with this purchase.

  • A Basic Battery
    By A31N7JU0K85DIM on 2008-02-09
This is a basic battery that is used for a few Nikon DSLR cameras. I have a Nikon D40 and this battery works perfectly fine with it. It even comes with the standard battery holder to keep the connections covered.

  • Spare battery comes in handy!
    By A22HR4IEO67M7 on 2008-02-10
I was in Australia recently where the current is 220 vs. 110 in NA. The battery in my camera ran out while I was taking pictures of Sydney. Thanks to its portability, I had an extra battery with me which saved the day. I had charged it at home, and I would have been hard pressed to charge it in Australia where you need a special adapter to convert the current to NA standards.

  • spare battery
    By A1EKSETIBS9ETQ on 2008-03-23
Got to have a spare battery for your Nikon D40 when you are traveling as well as a spare memory card. This looks and is exactly the same battery that came with the D40. Since the D40 doesn't have live-view and a monitorized lense like a bridge SLR, these battery last forever, about 800-100 shots or more. But once in awhile the battery dies in a middle of a trip. Have no issues or battery fading yet (4 months).
