  • Amazing quality, amazing price

This thing is the best heatsink/fan I've ever owned. I've gone through quite a few, too.

It is nearly silent and is very cool-to-the-touch. Which to me means it's doing its job. I have it on a 65W Athlon64 X2, so it's not like it has that much heat to dissipate anyways.

The heatsink is really easy to install, and just requires a flick of the lever instead of having to push down hard on a tension clip with a screwdriver. I onced stabbed and ruined a motherboard when I slipped off the clip with a screwdriver before.

I really can't believe how quiet it is. With this fan and a new Antec EarthWatts powersupply, I can't even hear my PC at night anymore.

Also, this has one of the best lifetime expectancies, and a 6 year warranty which is nearly unheard of for heatsinks/fans.

  • Beware! for towers only

The picture is misleading. This does not fit in an Micro ATX case like the Ultra MicroFly. It was off barely 1/8 of an inch but no way to get it in.

It wasn't that easy to clip the thing in either.

It appears to be a great heatsink/fan but just beware it may not fit in the smaller cases.

  • Great Product

  • Defective, Bad Quality, Bad Choice,

    By A36TN1PORPN5QY on 2008-05-06
I bougth a heatsink "TR2-R1 Amd AM2 Cooler" from AMAZON, look cool, but is a very very BAD PRODUCT, is a defective product. DON'T BELIEVE in comparisons, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME, DON'T RISK YOUR CPU's.

I have a motherboard MSI K9N and AMD Athlon 5000+ Dual Core (65w), and the "TR2-R1 Amd AM2 Cooler" is INSUFFICIENT to refresh my processor, his fan only reach 998 rpm. I was lucky, i was installed the MSI ControlCenter and he shutdown and save my AMD Athlon 5000+ Dual Core Processors.

I'm living outside USA, i can't return to AMAZON for REFUND, it's expensive, THINK, if you leave outside USA you CAN'T RETURN FOR REFUND, buy another cooler.

I wrote to many Thermaltake Partners, i was receive many "Mail Delivery Subsystem", THEY HAVE NOT PARTNERS, i think the partners don't like sell this DEFECTIVE PRODUCT, but Thermaltake list that partners in his website, THERMALTAKE LIES !.

¿Something good?, i think yes, i have a big aluminium piece, i go to buy and install a 92mm Fan with 2200+ rpm's.

    See you.

  • Excelente Producto

Excelente producto, un tanto grande, pero mantiene la temperatura bastante baja. Trabaja normalmente a 800 RPM, por lo que hay que deshabilitar la opción de alerta por debaoj de 1500RPM, ya que esta es su velocidad máxima.
    Recomendado 100%

  • Smooth, Quiet n Cool~
    By A3IL2K8F7GDE81 on 2008-07-23
I installed this on a computer I built up for my brother with an AMD X2 5000+ Black Edition. The installation was quick and easy, for even an amateur like me. I've heard from reviews that the temperature, at stock speed does not exceed 35 degrees (celcius), but here it seems to do so, (goes around 50~60 degrees) even though the fan practically dead quiet. I can't hear a thing! My other computer that renders the same temperature rating becomes an oven after a while, so I went to check on the heatsink while it's operating and it remains cool with only hints of heat coming out, so i'm not sure if it's a faulty reading but even raising the clock speed to 3 ghz, the temperature doesn't budge. After 3 months I still wonder why but it never bothered me nor my brother! All in all this heatsink is great for its value.

  • quiet but flawed

Does not keep my amd x2 4200+ cool. Good heatsinks typically utilize a smooth copper plate which makes contact with the CPU. Heatsinks and CPU surfaces should be as smooth as possible to maximize surface contact. Not only does this heatsink not have a copper plate, but it's surface is so rough, that it's no wonder I have to change my grease once a month. I'm actually planing on sanding / buffing the surface next time I have to pull it off. Not a quality product.

Great fan, keeps the CPU cool. Low price, great quality, what else do you need?

    I recommend this product

  • Works with AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 5000+
    By A1DR1C1BFZG6P on 2008-10-19
I bought this cooler from Amazon along with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 5000+ (Black edition) which doesn't come with a cooler. The heatsink is aluminum, has no copper component and no heat pipes, but does its job well enough keeping the CPU cool. I chose this cooler primarily because of its price and smaller size.

My system is a mid-tower case with an Asus M2N-E mobo. Most mobo's placement of the CPU is very close in proximity to the memory slots. Because of this, I found it easier to first install the CPU and cooler on the mobo before installing the mobo into the case.

I overclock the CPU to 3.08GHz - when idle, the fan runs about 900rpm and keeps the CPU temp at ~86degF. When busy, the fan will ramp up to about 1300rpm, keeping the CPU temp below 125degF. Because of the low rpm, there is barely any fan noise. The case has 2 other 80mm fans, plus the built-in fan in the PSU.

One thing of note is that the fan may not start up quickly on the first boot - the BIOS will warn that the CPU fan is not working. But since my case has a transparent side panel, it can be seen that the fan is running fine. Because the Athlon64 5000+ is a low wattage CPU, this cooler should work fine. If you're using a high wattage CPU, you'll probably need a heftier cooler/heatsink which is typically bulky and hard to fit into something less than a full tower case.
