(21 reviews)

Best Price: $19.99 $13.43

What's black and white and cool all over? I-CY, the performing penguin! This funky penguin loves to dive into music: rock, punk, rap, hip-hop, dance, techno, and more. Watch I-CY flap its flippers to your tunes, and make it happy with lots of music and interaction! I-CY communicates moods through musical riffs, movement and tons of blinking light patterns! It even squawks to let you know when it needs more attention! I-CY loves to move and groove to your music, but watch out - flick its tail, and it won't be happy! Plug in and chill out with I-CY! • Adorable, but it isn't great.

    By on 2007-03-23
I just bought the I-CY last night (I prefer to call him the Penguin). I started playing with him right away. He's so adorable! However, though he may (in my opinion), be cuter then the I-Dog, he definitely doesn't perform as well as the Dog. One of the most noticeable differences between these two is the amount the Penguin moves compared to the Dog. While I-Dog is constantly shaking his head and dancing (or whatever he does), the Penguin only flapped his flippers a couple of times during a rather long song. I was greatly disappointed by this. I was looking forward to watching the Penguin flap his adorable little flippers while I played my music! Another thing that I noticed about the Penguin is that his lights don't seem to be accurate while they're flashing. With the I-Dog, his lights flash exactly to the beat, which is what makes him so cool. However, with the I-CY, his lights seem to be off the beat and a little random. What really caught my attention is that when I end the music, Penguin's lights continue to flash as if I never ended the music, and it isn't like he's begging for attention or anything (they don't blink yellow and orange, like he does when he wants attention). I know that he could be reacting to other sounds, but then why does he only do this after I play the music and not before as well? Perhaps mine is broken, or maybe they're all like this. I'm not saying that the Penguin isn't cool. He's absolutely adorable! But you'd be much better off buying the I-Dog instead of the I-CY, unless you're only buying it for its looks and not for its actual performance!

  • This little guy is totally cool!

I absolutley love my penguin! He's so cute with his flapping flippers! I have him sitting on my desk at work where my friends stop by and play with him frequently. I am experiencing none of the problems previously reviewed. He rocks and flaps his wings consistently through songs and his lights flash in different colors in time with the music. He does respond to voices and other sounds as well.

  • My daughter was thrilled with this toy

    By AFURMSEUQUV1Q on 2007-06-26
This is a fun toy that my daughter has gotten a lot of joy out of in only the first two days we've had it. Easy to operate, it puts out a fairly good quality sound and is much more interactive than we were expecting. Would highly recommend to anyone whose child under 13 has an iPod. Above that age it would be more of a novelty, but still would be a fun gift.

  • Cute but not Great

    By AS7KOODI09GER on 2007-10-20
I bought this because i think it's cuter then the iDog. Ive been using it with my ipod shuffle and the volume is so low i just had to unplug it and use my earbuds instead. the noise of his movement accually was louder then the speaker, and i had it turned all the way up. Also I couldnt turn off his movements while I was trying to listen which was annoying. If I could have then maybe i could hear it better. Over all its cute and fun to watch dancing to the tv But if you want this for a speaker please get something else.

  • my kid liked it for a day or two

    By A1TPAE3V0LNNC2 on 2007-07-14
My kid had to have this for his birthday to go along with his ipod.He played with it for a day or two and then lost interest. It's pretty basic. When he dropped it on the tile it cracked,so I guess you'd say it's not too durable. It's a little expensive for what it is,but it made him happy on his birthday.

  • Fun Toy - 9 year-old Boy Loves It
    By AORIQ7QEV967V on 2007-12-26
My nine-year old wanted the I-CY for Christmas. So far it has held up. Although we hooked it up to the ipod nano, the I-CY will work with any sound. We put him by the TV speakers and got a kick of I-CY flapping his wings and lighting up.
The I-CY is very simple to use. Just add batteries.
For twenty bucks, it's a good value and satisfied my son's wishes. I am so lucky he did not ask for a Wii!

  • NOT a speaker
    By A90CO572BWE62 on 2008-04-25
I love this little guy - but he's just NOT a speaker. The 'speaker' part of him is the size of a quarter - the sound quality and quantity is seriously lacking. What sound he DOES produce is drowned out by the sound of his wings flapping. He reacts like crazy to the music, but YOU can hardly hear it. He is not a speaker. It's just like somebody turned up their headphones and put them down on the desk and called them a speaker.
HOWEVER he is a good TOY. For your desk, more than for your iPod. He has a good microphone on the top of his head to listen to music and if you sit him on your desk and play music through real speakers he is supercute - dancing and warbling along, scolding you when the music stops and playing his own musical riffs when you push his nose. I really like him - as a desktop pet or tamagotchi-like game. But they're wrong to label him a speaker. Someone looking for a speaker would be disappointed by his performance.

  • it's alright

My favorite pet is the penguin
so I love it, I don't think this toy is meant for anybody else besides people like me

  • This little guy is entertaining!
    By A1JPTKVTTM3VE on 2008-01-29
I bought I-CY because I have to admit I love my son's Spi-dog. The Penguin seems to have more personality than the Spi-dog. He flaps his wings, and he really gets his groove on and rocks back and forth. If you tap on his beak, he will sing and flash his lights in a funky pattern. If you flick his tail feathers, he lets you know he is not happy with you(it's also his pause button) The instructions are easy and can keep you entertained for a while. The only problem I have with I-CY is keeping my sons away from my penguin. I guess I will have to get one for them.

  • dancing penguin
    By A2OWGYMJF3RM2S on 2008-02-08
I-CY is so cute. I love his sad song the most. It took a while to get to the sad song. Heard a different song today. I like it that you can turn it off. I like it that it turns itself off after a while to conserve batteries. He is so cute--just wish he had eyes. We set him on our Zizzle Zoundz while we play with it and he dances to the music that it plays.

  • I - CY is a good buddy
    By AP9RXKSCIZT52 on 2008-02-13
It's a 1st generation product so there are less features than it's successors (I - Dog, I -Cat). Would prefer a switch that deactivates the animation during audio playback. All in all it's a cute little distraction.

  • cute...
    By A2AFSJMXVDKBFM on 2008-02-27
I just got this. Is there some way to stop it from moving and making noise...I just want to use it as a speaker???? The noise from it moving almost drowns out the music...and I have a nice MP3 player.

  • make it sleep
    By A3ECWSU2S855TS on 2008-01-18
My daughter received this for christmas. She loves it. We only have had one problem. Learning how to make it sleep. We figured it out from the manual really quick.

  • PENGUIN!!
    By A151GYLJOU2U4H on 2008-01-19
IT IS A FREAKING PENGUIN THAT DANCES!! I LOVE PENGUINS!! only problem with this thing is that it sort of acts like a virtual pet and gets sad if you dont play music for it every minute of every day...o well...it is still very cool

  • fun little toy/speaker
    By A1XLOD39PZX8QZ on 2008-01-24
Not only do my kids think it's adorable...but I have fun watching this little guy. The speaker is not loud, it's made for a desk top at work or something. But we place it on top of our home speaker and we just watch home rock out.

My child enjoys this product very much and both he and I would reccomend it to others.

  • Fun way to hear your downloads
    By A2BQ9WQ499ZLRI on 2008-03-25
When I bought an MP3 player for my son I was looking for a speaker so he could listen to his music in his room. I was happy to find the I-CY because he is all about being a boy and his sister already had the I-Dog so I jumped on this option. I like the I-CY better than the dog, it flaps it wings and lights up to the music. My son played with that with our MP3 player before he ever got around to asking us to download songs on his player. BIG HIT!

  • I-CY is adorable
    By A3BG5HN4BGN75Q on 2008-05-17
I have a lot of fun with I-CY, I call mine flipper. He dances and does a lot of things, mine also does what it says it will do. Dances and blinks to music. I keep him on my desk as well, he's a very good pet. If the batteries are low or not very good quality, he will slow down.

  • Easy cleanup
    By ARKB4USJHGJY5 on 2008-05-23
I bought this for my daughter because she's allergic to cats. Well, she's not really, but I can't stand all the hair in our house. Anyway, I thought this was a nice substitute pet, and perhaps can give her more affection than her emotionally distant father can.

  • Fun iPod accessory
    By ANNYNAVAA3D04 on 2008-11-09
The toy's response to music was fun to watch, although slow songs didn't prompt much response. This toy was smaller than I expected, but the child who received it was very pleased.
