Great Lock By A31FS4JRJ1N7WL on 2007-08-04
This lock is easy to use and locks nicely. The key and cylinder function great; it's easy to lock and unlock with smooth operation. My only gripe is that I would like the U-shape to be a little wider to make it easier to lock the front rim to the back rim and frame. It takes some fiddling with my road bike to get things to line up correctly. If you have a mountain or hybrid bike, it will be even harder, as my road bike tires are narrow (23-mm)and the rims are small.
Pretty Durable By AQC0AU19XMRZS on 2009-08-29
I have been using this particular U-Lock for about a month+ now. I would ride my bike down to my gym and lock it outside; nothing has ever happen to my bike. I'm happy so far, the key mechanism is also very easy. Just as long as you don't use force on the on key, it should last a long time. It's not as heavy like some other u-locks out there, but it's just as durable.
It also comes with a lock attacher which is quite handy, you can attach your lock to your bike in other words :)
Seems good By A23IEC55R164NO on 2007-10-24
Hard to tell how a lock will hold up to the bike thiefs, but it seems to be a pretty good lock. I have to say my new bike will not get stolen as easily as my old one. I was skeptical about buying this because of the review stating that the barrel is hollow, but now that I have it I can tell you that the barrel is not very vulnerable. I do not really like the bike mount, but I am not familiar with them so I can't say there is anything better out there. I also have to say that I wouldn't buy this lock for the "insurance" unless you have a lot better bike than I do.
Lock Picked, Bike Stolen By A14F03QCNVJ3VV on 2009-07-20
Don't buy this lock if you live in or ride to high risk areas. My lock was picked overnight. I attached my frame and wheel to a solid street pole and my Trek bike was gone the next day.
Lock is good, too bad there is no way to mount it. By A26GTCO4MOYLN2 on 2009-07-30
The lock seems ok. Haven't had a chance to use it yet because I've spend the last hour trying to figure out how to mount it to my bike. The new bracket mechanism makes the lock stick out an extra inch or two more than my previous Kryptonite lock did. It's pretty much impossible to fit the lock mount inside of your frame if you also have a water bottle holder.
I ended up using the bracket that came with my old bike lock to hold the kryptolok series 2. The new bracket design is ridiculous. Kryptonite obviously didn't do any product testing.
There are no pictures on Kryptonite's website of this locked mounted on a bike and now I know why.
I would highly recommend you not purchase this lock if you plan on using the bracket.
- Overrated
     By A3JCTJY7NLAT1 on 2009-05-12
The lock is fine, though I don't like how the plastic sleeve around the keyhole moves so you have to make sure the hole aligns with the keyhole. What really frustrated me is the bracket. What in the world were they thinking was going through my mind as I was playing with it. Just try to remove the bracket by placing a screwdriver into the slot and lifting up per the instruction manual. Atrocious design on the bracket. Luckily, most of the time I ride with a backpack which is where this will go instead.
- it's not bad for medium to low bike crime areas
     By AI0NMYA3LKXW1 on 2008-02-29
Kryptonite STD U Lock seems to be a decent lock but it still can be "infiltrated" by a knowledgeable master thief/master lock picker in probably under 1 hour time. I'm not too worried since it is sizable, hefty looking and very heavy (2 lbs), so it looks bigger than what I saw on other bikes in the bike rack and my bike is only valued at $285.
The keys are very flimsy and forged with cheap metal so I won't be surprised in 2 months that they snap or are damaged. The Lock holder (cheap plastic) didn't work on my bike as the Lock is too big to fit anywhere so I just snug it into my rear rack. Comes with a cable (be warned, it can be cut quite easily so don't use it as a "main attachment" to a pole, bike rack, etc, just use it to secure your rear or front tires with the U Lock attached to a pole, bike rack.).
In all, it's not bad for medium to low bike crime areas but don't use it for expensive bikes, big cities, dangerous zones or in dark desolate areas where a thief can use high powered tools or torches.

- Bad locking Mechanism
     By A3RFKSBJ2TD81Y on 2010-08-31
Similar to another review I've just now read, the locking mechanism simply stopped working. Key turns fine but without effect on the lock. Hopefully Kryptonite will send a new one or even better my money back because I don't see how I can trust it anymore.
- Lock will NOT open with Key
     By A18PRVFWHM1HXU on 2010-07-29
I bought this lock a few days ago and it was working fine. Then today I was about to lock my bike to a pole and it would not open. The key turns like it normally does and doesn't get stuck but the lock just does not open at all. I don't know if other people have had this problem. Maybe the inside is defective because even the backup key doesn't work either. What a waste of $40.00. Maybe it's just my lock but I'm only giving this product 1 star because even if Kryptonite ships me another one I have to worry about not being able to open the lock if I lock my bike to a pole. Thank god it wasn't locked to a pole at the time. Also like a few people mentioned this lock doesn't fit on most bike frames with the mount. It's too big so you'll have to carry it around in a backpack.
- Be sure to register your keys
     By A2JT4U4LHCPETV on 2010-06-08
We've had two of these locks for a couple of years and have had no problems with them (or with theft). We live in Chicago (not France anymore) and ride in mostly working-class/middle-class neighborhoods. An important thing to do if you buy this lock is REGISTER YOUR KEYS with the manufacturer. It's easy and you can do it online. This not only makes the keys replaceable, it allows you to get extra keys (our locks came with only two keys each). Sadly, we didn't do this, and now we've managed to lose all the keys to one of them. I'm afraid this has turned the lock into an expensive meat tenderizer.
- Perfect for My Area
     By A26WJQLS5KE59G on 2010-05-24
I got this lock at the beginning of the year and it has kept my bike safe since then. I don't use the lock holder, so I can't say much about that. I will admit that, depending on what you are trying to lock your bike/wheels to, it is sometimes difficult to lock the bike frame AND wheel, but this can be an added plus because it eliminates free space for thieves to use a jack on. Of course, the description and title of the item clearly states the size of the lock, so I will not hold that against them. Another complaint is that the key CAN be turned without being inserted all the way, which damages the key without actually locking/unlocking the mechanism. This only happens if you use the key incorrectly/hastily, so it really is the user's fault.
With enough time and tools, any lock can be broken into (in multiple ways), including this one. So it is not a "perfect" lock, but even in my area of high bike theft (mostly bolt cutters on cable/chain locks), this has been a "perfect" deterrent for me.
- Great lock
     By A2UPMN6X7LCX3V on 2010-04-21
I think this is a great lock. I am careful with the key (I read a few reviews where people said they had issues), and have not had any problems with it. The length is just right if you end up in situations where you don't have a proper rack to lock your bike to. This lock has worked around parking meters, poles, trees, benches - you name it, it manages to secure my bike without any problems (so far!). The lock comes with a really handy bracket to attach to your bike for when it's not in use - I was surprised/delighted to find this because I expected to have to carry the lock myself (even if you have to carry it yourself, it's quite lightweight so it's not a big deal anyway).

Lock is very easy to use and very light. The clamp works great to carry it around.
- not the best lock out there
     By A1E13TN7GOESRV on 2009-09-16
Had my bike stolen in the first week of owning it while using this lock. i give it i a three star because my bike was locked overnight (although it was in a courtyard area that i didn't think people would be prying into), and that made my bike an easier target.
if you want to be able to lock your bike up and not really have to worry about where or when you are locking it, this isn't the lock for you. if you just want to lock your bike out in the daylight in areas with lots of people around, this'll probably do the job for you.
- fine lock, make sure you measure your bike
     By AE2437N4SUHXA on 2009-01-07
The lock is fine. It seems well made, and unlike the last lock I purchased, the key mechanism works well, although I was disappointed to see that the key is very lightweight (aluminum probably) and will eventually bend. Before you order, make sure you measure your bike. The 9" loop barely fits between my wheel and the frame.
