Transformers Movie Voyager Optimus Primex$34.90

(13 reviews)

Best Price: $34.90

OPTIMUS PRIME is definedby his optimistic outlook and the care he feels for his comrades and those they protect. Though he may seem grim when contemplating the battle ahead, he looks always ahead to victory, refusing to contemplate the slightest chance of defeat. This attitude informs all that he does, and infects the other AUTOBOTS as well, leading them all to approach each fight with absolute confidence in their ability to win. It is, in turn, this that proves to be their advantage in each and every engagement against the DECEPTICONS, for in the face of superior numbers and fearsome weaponry, the AUTOBOTS never back down, never bend, and never break. Change this AUTOBOT figure from robot mode truck vehicle mode and back again! Chase down enemies with double missile-firing cannons in robot mode that convert into smokestacks in truck mode! • Sloppy Robot Mode, But There Are Some Positives

    By A4BJHXZLZB9WG on 2007-08-28
This guy definitely doesn't look as authentic as the leader class version in robot mode. I'll summarize a few of the bad points for the robot mode:

-The entire front end up of the truck to the roof of the windshield folds up and creates a bulky huge backpack looking feature on his back! The lazy design pretty much slaps you in the face here.

-The front end is re-replicated on his chest even though you can see the windshield from the truck mode on his back. Looks TERRIBLE and is obviously a very, very sloppy design.

-In several places, the figure has parts that sort of float freely. The shoulderpads that don't snap into place and the wheel covers that fold up on his feet come to mind.

-The weapons look fairly strange also. I've always traditionally seen prime with one cannon (even in the movie), but here he has two identical spring loaded guns.

Apart from these bad points, there are some good qualities:

-This version is considerably more durable than the leader class version. There aren't as many small parts involved with the transformation, and the only really fragile parts are on his legs.

-Of all the voyager class figures I've tried, this one's transformation is by far the easiest and least complicated. After a couple tries it should take 20-30 seconds or less to complete the transformation.

-The bulky front-end backpack balances the figure, making him a bit more poseable.

    -Truck mode looks decent.

If you want a Prime figure for the kids this wins out over the leader class, but for any collector other than the most meticulous, I'd say this is passable.

  • Optimus owns

    By A9OWSQ3QR871Y on 2008-05-07
I am very impressed with this figure even though i thought i was going to hate it. It is the most durable Transformer figure i own. It looks great in robot mode and has excellent articulation. He uses the smoke stacks from vehicle mode as guns. Prime transforms into a blue and red Peter Built truck. The vehicle mode is also quite nice. Both the robot and vehicle mode are very detailed. One gripe. This Movie Voyager prime is not tall enough by my standards compared to the other Transformers. So I will be purchasing the leader class optimus prime. The reason this will not hurt the rating is because this is a movie voyager and can only be but so big.

  • Poorly Made Product

    By A109SEVWUT6UCO on 2007-12-31
I bought this for my son for Christmas and we have been very disappointed. The product is very poorly made. It is complicated to transform and the pieces are constantly falling off. My son cannot actually "play" with the transformer because it breaks every time he tries to transform it. The toy is now sitting on a shelf and was a waste of money.

  • Not too bad.

    By A2VGB3LHS4DRYE on 2008-01-21
Transformers are fun again, for this 36 year old, after seeing their quicksilver transforming sequences in the unexpectedly satisfying 'Transformers' film last year (2007). Morphing, already blase, has been immediately rendered antique in comparison with the realistically-engineered transformation patterns by which these hardwired puzzles with souls keep undercover. The problem, as far as children's toys are concerned, is that even these "dumbed-down" Transformers can be near-impossibly complex and frustrating to rubik back and forth between vehicle and Bot at the constantly changing whims of one's children. Transformers Movie Voyager Optimus Prime isn't as hard as Transformers Movie Deluxe Class Bumblebee 2008 Camaro--the only two I've had the pleasure of playing with of late, but even with the poor instructions that inevitably get lost, the Prime ain't an easy rig to rig up for children, or adults, unless, perhaps, one has a degree in mechanical engineering. Another reason I shouldn't have majored in English Literature.

  • Whoa the prices are going up!

First I'd like to point out this is robovision optimus prime. just not as detailed or in a cool box. seriosly though if your going to get this figure pay a little more (or was it less?) for the robovision version. unless your a huge collector even I am a collector but wouldn't pay anther cent for a transformer I already have.

  • Way too difficult for a 6 year old (or a 37 year old!)
    By A1NHMEDJKQ5U4V on 2008-01-03
I purchased this for my 6 year old son for Christmas in 2007, and it was his FIRST experience with a Transformer - I WOULD NOT recommend this particular model for a first-timer!!! My husband, who's incredibly handy and able to fix just about anything in and around the house, spent TWO HOURS converting this from a robot to a truck!!! Our son had put it on his list after seeing it in a sales circular, and, being that Transformers are so popular, he wanted one. Well, "Santa" brought it, and I heard he thought it was a bit pricey for a robot/car toy! Anyway, once my husband finally finished, he handed it off to our son who proceeded to take it APART (back to a robot) and it hasn't seen its truck days since! It says FIVE AND UP, but if I were the manufacturer, I'd put a sidebar that even a 37 year old male thought it was rather hard to do! Nonetheless, our son loves it and was thrilled that "Santa" remembered!

  • Frustrating, little pieces break off too easily.
    By A341JIDWJ3AVUS on 2008-01-15
My son was excited to open this on Christmas morning, but the thrill passed quickly. He wanted this toy because all of his friends did, but it is difficult to transform and if not done just right, little pieces pop off, especially the little flaps on the legs. So far we have been able to put them back on, but it is a pain. He doesn't end up playing with it very much. I won't waste my money on another Transformer. It just doesn't seem durable enough to withstand the rough play of a pre-teen. Might be a nice collector item for an older child, but unless your child is quite careful and patient, these toys are likely to end up broken quickly.

  • Toy bought for my Grandson
    By A3CJY0WLT5QOKF on 2008-01-18
This toy was purchased for my 8yo grandson. He is bonkers over transformers and is enjoying the toy. He recieved it in time for his birthday, even though it was ordered right before Christmas. His birthday is Dec 23, and it arrived that saturday, before his annual party. They service was quick, efficient and I will order from this company/person again.
    Thank you.

  • Cool, but a bit fragile
    By A1A3414SKW5WVB on 2008-01-18
We purchased this toy for our son as a Christmas present. He was thrilled with it, but we soon discovered that several pieces will pop off if you're not very careful. Now, we've always been able to pop them back into place, so no real harm so far, but it does have me a little concerned about how well it'll hold up.

That having been said, you can't argue with success and our son has hardly let it out of his sight since he opened it. We just had to institute a rule that only grown ups can transform Optimus Prime.

  • Probably the best version of Movie Optimus Prime
    By AGZ8HQO485IL8 on 2008-01-20
This is probably the best incarnation of Movie Optimus Prime. Unfortunately unlike the original toys and toys from the cartoon series, the robots were designed for the movie first, with little though as to how they would be turned into transformable toys. Generally the toys are made first, and a cartoon built around them (afterall, what are most cartoons except 30 minute kids commercials?)

Anyway I have this version of Movie Optimus Prime, Robovision Optimus Prime and First Strike Optimus Prime. They are all the same toy, with just paint and color variations.

Lets start with the bad: When in robot mode, this version of Optimus Prime has a "backpack" formed by the front of the truck-mode. It is large and unweildly and doesn't fit in at all with the movie transformation, but realistically none of the toys transform the way they do in the movie. Another bad point is that the backpack adds a lot of weight to the top of this toy, and sticks on pretty far, which means that this toy is top-heavy and unbalanced which can make it difficult to stand him up.
Also, his feet are not very stable (despite their relatively large size) which further adds to his instability.

Now onto the Good: From the front, this toy looks the most like Optimus Prime compared to the other movie toys. He is very poseable with good leg and arm articulation and his weapons can store on his backpack. Also his face if very detailed and looks just like the Prime from the movie.
In Truck mode is where this toy shines most, however. This toy was very well though out, and the truck most is nearly perfect. All parts fit snugly together and there is even a "holographic" truck driver in the drivers seat which slides into a compartment when you open the door. The guns turn into smokestacks that blend seamlessly with the vehicle mode and overall it is very movie accurate.

I own mutiple versions of this toy, as well as the Leader Class Optimus Prime, and I have to say I prefer this version. Leader class Optimus Prime, while having a slightly better transformation (the way his legs come out is great) has a lot of "kibble" around his robot mode made up from truck parts not having a "place to go" when in robot mode. It is also a lot less poseable, with legs and arms that are a bit difficult to move. The worst part is that they sacrificed attention to detail in order to incorporate a lights and sound gimmick that doesn't add to the toy in any way.

I feel strongly that for the price, Voyager (Robovision, Firststrike) Optimus Prime is a far superior toy. It would even be superior if it cost the same as Movie Leader Prime.

    Highly Recommended.
