When I bought this game I was just looking for a baseball game to play. Now everyday I'm playing this game and I never get sick of it. Amazing game, great graphics, overall just fun to play. So much variety in game modes that you will never get bored. Easy to learn to play, but still realistic because you won't destroy every team you play.

  • Other reviews are misleading.

    By A2JBMVOLK0YMZ5 on 2007-05-18
I read numerous reviews before purchasing this game. After reading some of them, I started second guessing whether or not I really wanted to purchase this game. I am glad that I decided to. Yes, there are minor glitches, such as automated throws around the horn going into the outfield, but I have really seen nothing that gets in the way of gameplay. Overall, this is the best baseball game I have ever owned.

  • What did they do for a year?

    By AXGQK4ZCD84B2 on 2007-02-28
If you loved '06, then you'll like '07.

What's changed? Well, from what I've seen in just under 24 hours, not much. The graphics look the same; players, parks, animations, the crowd, basically are all the same. The audio commentary is at least 90% identical. There are, of course, a few new pieces of player-specific analysis. But "He'd better get a stool...", "He'd need an oar...", etc.; *all* your favorites are *still* there. If you played '06 enough to become familiar with the voice-overs, you'll know what I'm talking about. They even missed a few QA blunders from the '06 version. For instnace, they still call Troy Glaus the "top power threat for the D-Backs"! C'mon guys, if you couldn't get Vasgersian and co. to commit this time, go elsewhere. How 'bout Costas?! You can afford him. Man, wouldn't that be awesome?! Anyway...

A few things about the gameplay have changed during season/exhibition modes, but, in my opinion, they are not improvements. The way the camera reacts after you've put the ball in play is a bit awkward; the throw-power meter (or whatever they call it) seems useless. Pitching and hitting are basically the same. There are a few new gadgets (pitch selection advice, etc.) that you won't use if you had success without them in '06.

Career mode seems to have been an area of focus in the "off-season". You don't have to do the manual fast-forwarding anymore, and the default camera angle for when you're playing the field is nice. However, watch out for the throw buttons in career mode. When you're on D, the field is inverted on your controller and X becomes 2nd. This is a really tough transition if you logged as many innings as I have!

Anyway, this is a cool game, I certainly don't mean to slam it. But if you, like me, were going, "I can't wait to see how they topped '06!", you will be disappointed. But, if you want rosters that are mostly up-to-date, if you want the players that had great (in MLB '06 Reality) years to play well (Papelbon is actually well represented this time), and if you never want to hear that damn "Prototype" song again, go ahead and pick this up.

Oh, and just as an aside, for you RSN members out there: They tagged Pedroia with Mohr's picture.

  • Best Baseball on PS2 by a long shot

    By A6L58LQL6DVSW on 2007-03-02
I'm not going to waste your time, you just have to know that this is far and away the best baseball game for the ps2. It takes a while for a game, but everything is smooth and realistic. About 20 hours of gameplay and there haven't been any annoyances like you get with the 2k series. If you like baseball at all, get it.

  • Worse Than Expected

    By ADMUQ8RQNO0LQ on 2007-02-28
So, obviously I've only had the game for one day and I've only played a few games but so far I'm dissapointed. My favorite part of MLB '06 was the online play. The online play in '07 is bad. It is slower with more delay than last year. The game overall is very similar to last years version. That's not the worst thing in the world, because I liked last years gameplay, but I was hoping for some improvement.
I think the best feature is Road To The Show, and I really enjoy playing it. First, the game skips ahead to your players appearances, you won't be waiting around or simulating a lot in order to get your next appearance. Second, you are given the players view. I created a pitcher. The camera is set up behind the pitcher with the pitcher facing home plate. You get the feeling you are seeing what a major league pitcher would be seeing. You also have to play your position. As I pitcher, I have to break towards first base when a ball is hit to the right side. If I don't the runner could make it safely to first if the ball is hit to the first baseman.
If you are buying this game mostly for the online play, I wouldn't recommend it. Overall, I would recommend this game if you are looking for a realistic baseball game, or if you love creating your own player and helping them advance in the Major Leagues.

  • Dissappointing
    By A2HFWCU4PI3QBX on 2007-03-10
If you have played any of the EA Sports MVP baseball titles, you're going to hate this game. The graphics are poor, and the controls are difficult. It's unfortunate that EA can no longer produce their MVP baseball series, as it was without a doubt the best for the PS2 platform. The only thing good about this game is the updated rosters. But overall, MLB 2007 just doesn't cut it. It almost takes me back to my days on the N64...days I don't want to go back to!

  • Best Baseball Game on the Market......Period
    By A2EHCZQTCWVXPV on 2007-03-12
I'm not even going to compare this game to MLB 2K7 because it would be like Tyson fighting an infant. 2K7 is a junior varsity game, end of story. This review will focus on MLB The Show 07 and how it compares to last years game, which by the way, was a classic.

Graphics-The graphics in MLB the show are the best you would expect for the dying PS2 console. Stadiums are done in full detail and includes most minor league parks as well, which is where you most likely will start out in "the road to the show" mode. The player models look very similar to the real things. Also, batting stances, pitching windups, they are exactly as the real players. The animations, from running the bases, to pitching, batting and fielding, The Show nails almost everything creating a truly authentic baseball environment

Gameplay-The amount of different gaming modes that are available is really where The Show shines. The revamped "Road to the Show" is extremely addictive and takes you from spring training trying to make the big leagues through the season, where you build your attributes from game to game hoping to eventually get called up to triple a and eventually the majors.

The franchise mode gives you complete control over everyone and everything relating to your team. Hiring/firing coaching staffs, trades, contracts, lineups, rotations, its all here. You can even control small things like tv contracts, how and when to advertise your team, and setting prices for food, parking, and seating. It's all here, so the re-playability is a ten all the way on the different things you can do in this game.

The only gripe I had with this game is that it plays almost exactly like last years, with a very minimum amount of changes. It seems to me that the developers focused on creating "road to the show" and left the actual gameplay from last year alone. I guess that's a good thing because the fiedling, hitting, and pitching, were dead on in last years game (not the baserunning, which they fixed). Also, some minor tweaks from last year still aren't fixed, which is puzzling. I feel like when you shell out 45 bucks for a game you are kind of disappointed when it looks and plays almost exactly the same as last years. EA is always guilty of that. But the road to the show mode makes up for this.

  • How to destroy a great game
    By A32MWT4A8FM003 on 2007-04-16
When I first heard about this game I was extremely excited especially because last year's MLB 06 THE SHOW was such a great game and I would even go so far as to say a classic. This year it seems SONY has taken some advice from EA SPORTS on how to destroy a great game. Just like EA has ruined the Tiger Woods Franchise with 06 and 07, now Sony comes along and completely ruins what it accomplished with MLB 06 THE SHOW. When are companies going to learn to leave sh_t alone? When you have a great game that everybody loves why change it? Unless you're going to dramatically improve upon what already exists then just leave it the hell alone and update the rosters. The graphics are good but the rendering is horrible. You can't even throw a ball in from the outfield without the screen shaking from side to side. The game play, which was very fluid in 06, is now sketchy at best. Double plays take way to long, the throwing meters under the fielders are stupid and a waste of time and the hitting feels for some reason unnatural and or at least more so like a PS1 game. The one improvement that was made was the way that a single runner advances from base to base but having sold my copy of MLB 07 THE SHOW and having re-bought my copy MLB 06 THE SHOW I can honestly say that the base running was never that difficult to begin with. If you have MLB 06 THE SHOW than keep it and update the rosters online. If you have MLB 07 THE SHOW than sell it and get 06 back. This game was not worth its cost and certainly did not live up to it's predecessor.

  • EA SPORTS PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    By A3NNXYMHJ6D9XJ on 2007-03-01
I tried. I tried last year and I tried again this year with the same results. This game SUCKS. I can't tell you enough. The other reviewers didn't have too much good to say but they didn't slam it like I did.

Lousy graphics. I use the Orioles (stop laughing..for the record they are not the reason this game sucks...anyway back to the review)Miguel Tejada looks like some created minor leaguer. The hats look stupid on the players they are all oversized. It looks stupid when people wear super big hats and so does the game.

The game play is nothing no where near good as the EA Sports MVP series. That was the best baseball series since the old school NES and Genesis stuff.

I will just go back to playing Madden and Smackdown. I tell you what I am begging EA to try when they can years from now to get baseball back.

I tried two times. I bought the first one since EA lost the contract. It was a cheap attempt. But it received so much acclaim. I thought they were talking about a different game. I tried this year because too many players are missing from the last EA baseball game that I still have.

Super dissapointment. The thing that bothers me the most is that they can put this crap out like thisbecause there is no other competition otherwise. So that means they can slack and cut corners the rest of the way.

I can't tell you how lame this game is compared to EA.

  • WELL DONE!
    By A1B1N3YYZD0OYO on 2007-03-06
This is the BEST baseball simulation out there this year. I cannot even mention it in the same sentence with 2K7, it is so much better. It is not the perfect game, but it is a great game. If you are a baseball fan it is your only option. I suppose if you own an Xbox, you are out of luck.

  • This is Baseballriffic.!!
    By A1T7OO7CZRELFG on 2007-03-11
This game shows what baseball is about. Every single aspect of baseball is included in this game. EVEN PLAYER CAREERS!!! The gameplay is simple to learn (4 games min). The online play is the best, The news feeds on your favorite sports teams are amazing. This game deserves a 10 out of 5 stars. It also saves very fast, unlike other titles from previous years.

  • Great Game!
    By A818DHZBEF43E on 2007-03-26
I bought this game for my husband's birthday. He had been waiting for it since last year's baseball season ended. I gave it to him a couple of days before and he was thrilled! He loved it and now looks fwd to the weekend when he has time to play it with a buddy of his.

  • good game with major glitches
    By ATHWTKPV1VFY4 on 2007-04-10
The presentation of this game is great. The graphics are great as well as the quick play and Career mode.
The game is worth getting if you play everything but Franchise mode.

However, in Franchise mode there is a major glitch. The system automatically deletes all the coaches (manager, hitting, pitching coach etc) from your team as well as all teams in the league. My all-star shortstop performed like an AAA player. Pitches aren't as accurate... the whole game gets knocked down to the college level.

Also your batting order gets jumbled too.

I haven't been able to play more than one game in franchise mode before my frustration causes me to shut it down...not a good thing.

Another annoying feature of this series is the overuse of vintage uniforms. It seems like the players wear them in every other game. This feature should be able to be disabled in the game.

I'd recommend buying the '06 version which has no bugs and is a great game.

Sony really dropped a big one here. I'm returning this game and waiting for the PS3 version. I'll be renting it first though to make sure the bugs are gone.

  • Still much better than the other
    By A2FVPTS77ALKLV on 2007-03-15
MLB 07 still is heads above 2k sports. The game play flows a lot better. The graphics are very good though could be a tad better. THe game can seem slow at times as the frame rate seems to slow down at times. Still in comparison to 2k7 its so much better. You have better control of all the teams you wish too. Whether it be for free agents or lineup or rotation settings. I wont bother yo uwith the particulars of the game as they have been well spelled out in other reviews. Simply said in comparison to 2k7 , mlb 07 stand heads above. THe only downer i can see is i wish the graphics were a bit better and also the frame rate can be a bit slow otherwise a great game

  • Great game play, poor franchise mode
    By A2NH6XSE79X3VY on 2007-03-26
This is a great baseball in every way outside of the very poorly done franchise mode. Single games and player statistics are very realistic down to the last detail. Stadiums look great, broken bat hits, realistic pitching/fielding/baserunning and hitting, outfielders fumbling around in the corners...all great. Now....the bad. If you have any interest in the behind the scenes aspects of baseball, such as free agency, trades, player call ups from AAA, etc...etc. You may want to look elsewhere. It looks like the developers put all the effort into the game play itself, which is great, but they should just remove the franchise aspect then. For starters, the computer does not sign free agents and they do not make trades amongst themselves. You can trade w/ computer controlled teams, but they will NEVER make trades that don't involve your team. And secondly, you can bring up and send down players to AAA without any limits. You can bring up a different starting pitcher from your minors every game if you like. They have no rules like waivers, options, or players refusing demotions (maybe it seems too technical, but real MLB has these rules for a reason)

The online roster updates are very nice though, so if you want to play out a season and have the exact rosters as in real life, it can easily be done here. But, if you want to actually be the GM and make the decisions that you think the real teams should be making (the whole purpose of a video game) then you will be disappointed as the free agency system and roster changes are very bare bones.

Overall, this is far and away the best baseball game on the console platform. However, if you really like getting into the nuts and bolts of micromanaging your franchise over multiple seasons....try something else.

  • great game
    By A2RAOBN9EK7KYJ on 2007-04-05
great game...couldnt ask for anything better...only knock would be on hardest level of game play seems nearly impossible to hit consistantly ...even when your locked on pujols will hit ground balls on 85mph fastballs hahah

  • Road to the Show Rocks
    By A3RI6UQ69N0A7R on 2007-05-18
I love the player developement of the Road to the Show feature.

  • I rather keep stuck to the 06 version
    By A3U2KZ5L8UTNP0 on 2007-03-09
Nice advance concerning to the AI ..Nice ads with the pitching efeciency and the control of each pitching. The interface tends to lag a lot when you hit the ball and you barely have time to react to the ball when you are fielding. The way you see the ball when hit in the 06 version was nice..They should not have touched that part...You almost have to learn again how to throw and catch the ball to master this..I think they did it on purpose to increase the sales of the PS3 where this game should run fanstastic....Tony Rojas.

  • Greatest Baseball Experience I Ever Had!
    By A2N444ORU6RIKL on 2007-03-22
How could you not like this baseball game over any others? I think that this game is awesome! It has great graphics and the gameplay is great! I like the new Road To The Show career mode. Now you don't have to sit and play the whole game, you can just fast-forward to your player's events. As a Red Sox fan, I wasn't happy when Daisuke Matsuzaka wasn't in the game. Some Asian created player poses as him in the game. Other than that though, worth getting for PS2 and the PSP.

  • Really Enjoy This Game
    By A2FJ5HGNIXSZ2I on 2007-03-25
I loved last year's MLB The Show. The new one hasn't disappointed me. I really like the new career mode! The game moves more quickly through your personal performances automatically. I like the added "solo" fielding aspect of my 3B player. I don't have to worry about pitching or other fielders, only my own guy in the field! I love the new focus. For people who kept getting hammered as pitchers and didn't know what to throw, the new pitching system helps out. You can choose to use the game's AI to recommend pitch location and the type of pitch to throw. Personally it has really helped me create a dynamite closer. This game is fun and much more interesting to play than other titles I have tried before. Especially if you liked last year's game, you won't be disappointed!

  • just small goofs
    By AEIYQSPOHQK1Y on 2007-03-30
They improved the excessive triples in the '06 version but still have minor glitches in the throwing of the ball after an out. Pujols or Kennedy or anyone will throw to short when throwing around the horn and consistently throw it past and into the outfield. Players tend to run through defenders and on a ground ball hit through 2nd base, the umpire should be without his...groin area apparatus. But other than these minor problems it is a great to play game. Playing the season is lots of fun and a challenge.

  • Best so far
    By A21XZJZMRL6IFH on 2007-04-10
I'm just going to tell you the things that annoy me about this game in hopes that they will one day be corrected. This, in no way, is intended to discourage anyone from purchasing it, as overall it is definitely worth having.

First of all, after going about 120 or so games into a season, there could be nothing more annoying than the announcers comments. Many times they are irrelevant to the situation and the baseball purist will soon come to realize that the advice they give is ridiculous. I've actually gotten to the point that the sound of their voices infuriates me (of course that's my problem, not yours). This problem can be solved easily enough by simply turning down their volume.

The second thing is the computer baserunning. It is horrendous. Being a novice at this game, I have opted out of manual baserunning at this time. Definitely a nice option for me. However, nothing makes me pull my hair out more than poor baserunning. (Being a Cubs fan, I have been exposed to more than my fair share of it in recent years.) Everyone knows that in baseball, there are some cardinal rules in baserunning that should not be broken. Thou shalt not steal third with nobody out. Thou shalt not not steal third with two out. Thou shalt not advance to third from second on a ground ball to the left side of the infield.

I have maxed out my BR ability slider for most of my players in hopes that it would keep them from making these mental errors, but to no avail. I guess, that in the grand scheme of it all, these things don't happen all that often, but one time is too many for me.

  • Great...then...lacking!!
    By A37KDCQNNGLN7D on 2007-05-10
After last years 2k6, which in my opinion was a waste. I loved MVP 05. I thought I would give MLB 07 a shot. I won't reitirate what's already been said, but I was intially impressed...

    Until I found out that:

My batting orders get screwed every game!
If you change (attempt) your pitcher while on offense, the CPU makes you take the other teams pitcher, which can't be done. Then you can't get back on the field. Ultimately you have to restart the game.

Can you create a player for franchise mode?? Anyone please let me know!!

There is apparently no management. Since you can hire them, yet there they are at first and third, and there's the skipper arguing balls and strikes...and btw- Jerry White first base coach for the Minnesota Twins is BLACK not WHITE...

Yes this game minus these faults is heads and tails above 2k6 (haven't played 2k7) so it is good...but GREAT, I don't think so. ANY game with these kinds of annoying bugs, such as the batting orders, it is so minor that there is no exscuse.

One more thing. Are these bugs in the PS3 version? Please let me know, that may be reason enough to pony up!!

    One Love

  • MLB 07 The Show
    By A3F0V5X34CIO6Y on 2007-07-01
MLB '07 "The Show" comes across with a load of innovative and immersive features (RTTS, Franchise mode) but is plagued again and again by foolish little glitches and bugs that almost ruin the whole experience. If you are someone who can easily get past these bugs, MLB `07 will prove to be a great game, with the "Road to the Show" game mode being the feature that is particularly alluring. If you don't need the RTTS feature, or will find routinely inept AI and occasional game-breaking bugs too big an issue, I would advise to shop around or wait for a bargain. Overall, the game feels and plays rushed- but I'm still playing.

  • Not bad. EA's MLB versions were better.
    By A3M7Z8AHQ4BBZ4 on 2007-07-12
I have been playing this game for a few weeks now and I feel that this game is better then average. It seems that the game play is not as real as it should be. For example, if you are a pitcher in career mode, you rely on your teammates to make plays for you. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. Sometimes they will turn a double play lightening fast, and others will take their time and just get the out at second. Also, the managers in career mode decide your fate. As a pitcher, they will pull you out of a 2 hit shutout if you give up a hit in the later innings. It gets very frustrating. I have focused more on the negative, but it is a pretty fun game. Career mode is fun and semi-addictive. I do miss the EA version of MLB baseball which was much more detailed in game play. I would give it a shot when the price comes down.

  • Almost Perfect
    By A2GB26NDYKS19I on 2007-07-23
I got this game 6 weeks ago after my 2K6 finally crapped out on me. At first I was very disappointed. The graphics are bland, the baserunning made me tear my hair out and I could barely win a game even playing Yankees vs. Nats.

Now I've had some time and I can say I really like this game. The gameplay is probably the most realistic baseball there is out there right now. Umpires are inconsistent and drive you crazy just like in real life, your pitches won't always hit the exact mark, it adds alot of excitement to close games.

There are a few things I don't care for. The biggest problem occurs at 3rd base. I don't know if anyone else has run across this problem, but sometimes when I have a man on 3rd, he'll try to steal home without me telling him to. This generally does not work out very well. It's really frustrating especially after bunt sacrificing the man over, then suddenly you have nobody on and two outs instead of 3rd and one. Maybe I'm just pressing something on accident, but if it is a glitch, it's a freakin big one.

It's a little too easy to hit home runs. Example: if you lock in with Jim Thome on any fastball he'll likely hit it to at least the warning track, no matter where it was in the strike zone. That's about my only complaint.

    Overall, great game, pretty addictive.

  • Wow what a game!!!!!
    By on 2007-02-28
I really enjoy this game. Road to the show is just amazing. Being able to play the field and run the bases like a real pro. I think the ratings for each team is a little strange. Yankees #1 overall and it says they have a better rotation than batting lineup. R u serious this is just stupid. Red Sox ranked 12th overall. Ok they have one of the best rotations in all of baseball. And there lineup is alwasy buck nasty. Also the Padres ranked 9th overall over the cards and mets. What a joke so stupid. Ok enough about rankigns this game is a classic and everyone should buy this if there a baseball fan. MVP has nothign on the MLB the Show series. Cash money $$$$$$

  • Decent "show"ing
    By A1DCH9QL1XVXA6 on 2007-03-05
Like many others, I long for the EA days of MVP. The interface and gameplay is familiar and second to none. MLB 07, while not an EA design or engine, is decent enough for extended gameplay and involvement. Like its predecessor, it is very in depth and interactive, and the career and franchise modes are among the best of any baseball franchise.

Not much has changed from MLB 06 to MLB 07. This time around, there is more strategy involved in the actual gameplay. Being a franchise fan, I enjoy the level of detail that is involved, from player management all the way down to stadium advertising. This gives you an in-depth view of what its like to be a GM, and for me, that is exciting.

The gameplay is decent too. Nothing much different from the 06 version, as far as fluidity and mechanics. The designers removed several of the bugs that plagues MLB 06.

One aspect that I enjoy is the called pitches. Having the catcher call the game is an excellent improvement. For more realism, switch to the pitcher view for pitching/defense. This makes the pitching considerably harder and forces you to be more precise, like the majors. Place a pitch too far away from where the catcher called it, and your 97 MPH fastball will end up in the fifth row of the centerfield bleachers.

The "confidence" meter for pitches is a nice touch too, making the game more involved. During real-life MLB games, the crowd plays an important part, and the designers have managed to integrate that aspect into the game as well. Pressure situations are increased during high-tense moments, and the controller vibrates to add more intensity to the situation. Last year's version didn't incorporate this, and the designers did an excellent job integrating that new aspect.

I don't really play career mode, but from what I understand, it is exciting and more streamlined from last year.

Player controls are easier to get a hang of in this game. Realistic motions, dives, and slides make the game more believeable. So does the player running out of "gas" as he rounds the bases, making triples difficult to achieve. This seemingly meaningless detail makes the game much more realistic. It makes sense too. Players don't go from 0-60 in 1 second, instead, they build up speed. I noticed this when I hit a triple with Eric Hinske. He started out of the box slow, but as he rounded first, he flew into second, but after rounding second, his legs started to give and he wasn't as fast getting to third. This is where the levels of design have benefitted this series. EA never incorporated that into its baseball games, and kudos to MLB 07 for having the insight to achieve that level of detail.

The ballparks are detailed and realistic, and the crowd is more of a factor in this game. Groaning, cheering, heckling are not arbitrary and play an important part to adding the tension high-pressure games create.

One thing I do miss significantly from the EA series is arguing with the umpires. There have been several times I've wanted to scream at the umps myself for some boneheaded calls, and I liked being able to have the manager come out and argue with the umps like in the MVP series.

The "my sliders" feature is nice too. Last year's version it seemed like my players never got injured (Manny started all 162 games in the season, my starting picthers never missed a single start, etc.) So I've adjusted the injuries frequency sliders and we'll see what will happen.

The game doesn't feel as scripted as last year's either. I won many games in the final at-bat on last year's version. It seemed almost too easy to win the game. It's more difficult this year so far, but I haven't played enough to really say for sure.

Overall, this game is worth it if you're an avid baseball fan like me, and enjoy tinkering and toying with lineups, minors, and budgets. It is also a great introduction to MLB video games too, with a small learning curve. For those unsure between MLB and the 2K series, go with MLB. The graphics aren't as clunky, and the gameplay is more realistic.

This is an exact remake of MLB The Show 06. Except for the Confidence Meter and a far better(but difficult)career mode everything else is the same. And there is no Dice-K (he is replaced by some default named Tate Baik damn Players association). His gyroball is there though and it is one of the cheeziest pitches to throw on righties but on lefties if you hang it its gone.

Well, we decided to buy this game instead of MLB 2k7 for the 360, and im happy with that decision. The new Road to the Show mode is good, except for the fielding. While on the defensive side of the ball, its like fielding practice. They only put you in when that pitch will be hit to you, and it can get a bit repetitive. It also reverses the controls for throwing from last year. Other then that, its a great game, and my one problem with it is nothing major at all. I would recomend this game to anyone looking for a great baseball game
