• Cheap but rules! Perfect holster for a 2-bag solution ...

  I fretted over finding "the perfect camera bag" for too long. With this sucker being $10, I decided "what the heck" and tried it. It is an outstanding value at $10, and it sold me on the idea of using a 2-bag solution -- one for the camera with a default lens mounted and one for the rest of my lenses. I cannot recommending such a combination enough. I have a Pentax K100D and my default lens is a Pentax AF 28-105mm f/4.0-5.6. I keep my DA 18-55mm f/3.6-5.6, DA 50-200mm f/4.0-5.6 and Zenitar FE 16mm f/2.8 in my separate lens bag (although all of those lenses will fit on the camera in the holster).
  
  The front area is great for temporarily storing caps, filters, etc... The top handle is nice, as is the strap -- nice to have both. Although it can go on a belt, it's just too big to sit with it on such. It also looks like that belt loops would eventually give way under the strain. I also agree with another poster than not having a camera brand name splattered all over it draws less attention to the bag, which is a bonus. If you absolutely have to sport your camera brand name, just leave the camera straps themselves danging out or wrapped around the top handle (which I do myself, to make it easier to pull out).
  
  If you have a full frame or large lens, then this may not be big enough. Just FYI. You need to be using a more modern, more compact dSLR and its lenses. While it does fit my APS-C sensor sized (24mm x 16mm) Pentax K100D plus full-frame-sized (standard 35mm compatible) Pentax AF 28-105mm f/4.0-5.6, it won't fit much bigger.

  I recently purchased the "Opteka SLR & DSLR Camera Short Zoom Holster Case w/Adjustable Shoulder Strap" to house my Canon 40D (with 28-135 mm lens) for an up coming trip abroad. The holster arrived promptly, to my discovery that it is fractionally too short for my camera.
  
  Re-measuring the 40D, with lens, and the Opteka holster revealed that the manufacturer touts its SRL & DSLR case with, apparently, exterior measurements. The camera's external dimensions wont fit inside the case!
  
  I liked the low price, thick padding, long strap, quick function zipper, handy extra pocket, and black color of this Opteka holster. It is certainly recommended for cameras, with lenses smaller than 7.5" L by 6.5" D by 4.5" H. The "Exterior Dimensions: 7 3/4" L x 4 1/4" D x 7 1/2"H" posted @ Amazon are misleading. (This Opteka holster is smaller than this on the inside. It needs to be, at least, another .5" longer.)

  Fits my Canon Digital Rebel XT perfectly (with the lens it came with). Definitely holds JUST the camera, but sometimes minimalism is a good thing. Also, nice that it's made out of all man-made materials. It's really sturdy, and great for the price.

• Great price; practical case

  I bought this for those times when I was taking just our Nikon D40 with 1 lens attached to the camera body (standard 55mm or a zoom 200mm lens). While the case is not leather, it isn't expensive either. It's perfect for when I want the camera protected when I toss it into a backpack or carry it otherwise unprotected. I do have a regular gadget bag, but if you don't need a spare lens and any other misc equipment and want to be minimally encumbered but still enjoy the quality of your D-SLR pictures, this is a great and compact way to protect the camera. One note of caution: I don't think you could squeeze a lens longer than the Nikon 200mm in without potentially putting too much pressure on the LED screen when the case is zipped.

  I bought this holster as a carrying case but the fact is the camera barely fit in it. The description said that is for a slr camera with mid range lens but the in and out movements is difficult, caused by the camera strap. The quality is good but for me was a waste of money.

  This is another rare steal on Amazon. $10 for a well made holster bag is almost to good to be true. I have one for my Canon XTi and my wife has one for her nikon D80. I do not agree with the review from the poster below. The title clearly states the case is a short holster bag. Short = small lens.

  I bought this case after reading the reviews. I have a Nikon d40 with 18-55mm lens and it seems like it's made for it! I went on a trip and took it and it's just perfect as you can use it hanging over the shoulder. It's light and compact. Has space to put extra memory cards. Not recommended if you wish to take extra lenses or filters. Overall, a great buy.

  I bought this case for my Digital Rebel XT and it works great. The quality is surprisingly good too, especially for the price. Keep in mind that it's still a small case with very limited real estate, so don't expect to fit many accessories or larger lenses into it. But if you don't need a lot of room, this is a great deal!

  I ordered my new Nikon D40X and was looking for a camera case just to hold the camera and the lens( 18-55 mm lens )...i read the reviews before buying opteka. And when i finally got it today i was happy and little disaapointed at the same time. To start with the camera just fits in with the 18-55 mm lens attached to it, but fitting in the camera along with the strap was a little difficult though. I had to take extra care inorder to protect the LCD. And also had to remove the lens hood from the lens because its impossible to fit in with the lens hood attached to the lens. Will have to find another solution for carrying the lens hood when i go out. All in all the quality of the case is extremely good for $10 (gives a leather finish look)and am sure it will protect the camera when you knock on to something accidentally. You can always drop few memory cards into it just in case you want to but nothing more than that. My only dissapointment is that i cannot fit the lens hood and fit the camera into the case, would have been more happy if it accomodated the lens hood. But otherwise its a nice product for that price.

  It was designed too small for a Canon Rebel 300 with a short lens and shoulder strap. The camera and lens will barely fit in the case without the camera strap. (Even if the camera strap were removed, the strain on the nylon zipper would soon lead to zipper failure.) The concept of a case of that type and utility at such a good price was great, too bad it is not practical. Too bad.

  It's a very nice solid camera case. It's quite rigid and has nylon lining inside. I use it for my Nikon D40x and it fits the camera perfectly. There is a zipped pocket inside the case, which is convenient for carrying memory cards or an extra battery. On the outside the case has a little mesh poket for the lens cap. It's well worth the sale price ($10+shipping) i paid for it.

  with the standard lens and cap the nikon d40x fits fine. I have not tried to attach the camera strap and also fit that in the case yet, though I think that would work also. Case feels sturdy and I am pleased with it.

  I think this is a pretty decent camera case. I just wish they would have listed the interior dimensions as well under the description. The height inside the case is only about 6 and 1/2 inches. If you have a camera longer than that, forget about trying to fit it!! I have a Nikon D80 and my 70-300mm lense will not fit in the case. I would return it, but the shipping cost would amount to the cost of the case. The case looks nice and sturdy without the bulkiness of other cases. I would use this for light trips w/smaller lenses, that you could throw in a bag and go!

  Really, I should have known. But, as you can clearly see, this bag gets a lot of respectable reviews. However, the zipper on my case, while it looks normal, is a pain to open and close. In the picture, you can see that the zipper needs to come around two contours. Probably some of them do just fine, but not mine. Now, if you're looking for a small bag, you want it to open on command. I expect this zipper to snag to the point of damage within 10-15 uses (think high school back pack on sale + 4 textbooks). I will now be buying a higher priced bag.

  This is an inexpensive solution for your digital SLR. I have a Nikon D40 with an hand strap and it fits fine in this case. If you use a neck strap it would be a tight fit. Besides having it's own shoulder strap it also has loops presumably to use on your belt. I like this - it protects your camera from the accidental drop or bang and it is smaller for on the go camera carrying.

  This was the most compact case for a Digital SLR, which I have found while looking online and in several stores. Fits nicely our Nikon D40 with the standard 17-55 mm lens, it is well padded with convinient front pouch for placing the lens cap when shooting. Tried the case as a holster on a belt and it worked well. Excellent product for the price.

  I got the camera case the other day and it fits my Nikon D40X perfectly. I have a 18-55 mm lens. If you have a bigger lens, consider a different case. It comes with an adjustable shoulder strap. The case is very high quality, and should definitely be considered as a top choice.

  I bought this bag for my Canon 450D with Canon EFS 17-85mm lens and I tell you the camera barely fits in this bag. If my lens was a little larger, I'd have to return the bag. The bag is small and very nice (and cheap). You can't put anything else in the bag beside the camera really. The shoulder strap is just cheap. Overall it's a good product for the price. The only thing I worry about is the zipper. It's cheap (how predictable!) so it might not work for much long. I had some trouble with the zipper trying to fit my camera in the first time. It needs some care.

  My Fujifilm S9000 fits great in this bag. It doesn't have a lot of extra storage space, but has a couple of small pockets that are large enough to hold extra memory cards. I had looked at the custom case that Fuji sells, but it was almost $40. This bag is just as good for about 1/4th of the price

  This item was just what I expected it to be. I do wish there was a little more room for filters but I was buying it mainly to protect the camera when I'm not bringing along a larger camera bag. If your looking for something that you can store the camera and some additonal items then this is NOT the item for you. This is of good quality, was a great price and I would purchase it again if given the choice.
