They arrived defective

I hesitate writing a negative review based on receiving a defective item since I may be the only one who gets a bad one, but I thought that I should be honest and report what I experienced.
I bought this as a gift (to match a pink iPod). When I received the earbuds the wire leading to the right bud was really short (6") and the one leading to the left bud was unusually long. I thought that they could be adjusted by sliding them through the little "collar" that the two wires emerged from. When I tried to do this with only moderate pressure the shorter wire snapped, leaving me with a dangling, disconnected bud in my hand.
I am sure that I can get them replaced but it is not worth it to me to go through all of the trouble necessary just to replace something that cost less that $20. I'll throw them away and buy something else.
