  • Wonderful Fan

    By A3AZTYF9T14R4P on 2007-04-21
Energy Star rated, which I view as a big plus. The florescent light fully lights my bedroom and is not what I would consider "harsh" light. The remote control is fantastic, especially when going to bed because I do not have to get up to turn off the lights. The fan is extremely quiet and smooth ... I have yet to hear the fixture shake. Not only is the fan extremely functional, but it is pretty stylish, as well.

  • Great Fan

Installed this fan in our family room. Motor is quiet and provides a nice amount of airflow. The 22w light is a bit cold and harsh like most fluorescent lights so I don't really use it much. It's packaged with a mounting rod so you can choose to mount it from around 4 inches from the ceiling to about a foot away. Good fan, nice design, nice price.

  • Great fan but change the wireless frequency during install.

    By A122FN6WBV7R84 on 2008-01-02
We had our electrician install two of these fans: one in my office and one in the master bedroom. The fan locations are on opposite ends of our house. As expected they work great. However, much to my surprise, each handheld remote unit controlled both fans. Turning one fan on resulted in both going on. A quick call to Hunter customer service confirmed my suspicion: all fans are shipped on the exact same frequency from the factory. "Just change the frequency on one fan" the support person said. The problem is changing frequencies requires removing the fan from its ceiling mount. Luckily our electrician had some free time the next day to do the change. Problem fixed. Well sort of. My neighbor has the exact some fan. Occasionally, when he turns on his fan our fan goes on. Guess our electrician needs to make one more stop at our house!

  • great fan, ugly blades

    By A29TB7VOR8IGHQ on 2007-12-21
Easy and fast to install. Remote control based system makes wiring connections a snap.

Fan istelf looks very good - nice, sleek, modern look with good quality. Reversable blades (birch look or darker oak look) are less stellar, both seem rather dingy and uninspiring.

    Works great, runs silently.

I've had mine for 2 years when the receiver stopped working. I've had this happen with other fans so it was not a big deal, but here is the problem: Spare parts can only be found from hunter for this model, not homedepot or lowes.

After a month of struiggling with the fan, getting spare parts and replacement parts from hunter and spending more than it would cost me to get a new fan, the damn thing still does not work. The fan works fine, but the light does not.

At this point, I am taking it to the back yard for a good beating and replacing it with a new fan.

  • Very Solid Fan
    By AZWP56FA7PASV on 2008-03-30
I got this fan because of the great contemporary styling and remote control. Almost bought it at Home Depot for $280 but then found one on-line for about $200. FYI, Costco occasionally sells what seesm to be this same fan (only in their warehouse) for $139, but they call it the Hunter Westside. I just bought my second and third ones to replace my dated fans. I had to change some dip switches so that one remote doesn't control all three at once.

There is a slight delay when turning the light on and off and the light quality isn't the greatest for high usage, since it is a cicrular flourescent lamp.

The fan seems to have a light hum to it, but is otherwise very smooth, stable and quiet. I was hoping to learn the signal for my universal remote, but it is radio frequency versus infrared and not possible. RF is the better quality, since it doesn't require a direct line of sight. Overall I would highly recommend this fan, particularly if you can pay $140 versus $280.

  • Good value
    By A3P7FJ4EWTYGIW on 2007-12-26
I bought 3 of these to put in our master bedroom, living room, and the family room. The fan is attractive, quiet and has light as well as the reverse function. For the price, I think the fan is a good buy, no question.

A minor complaint is that the light is fluorescent and quite harsh.

  • Just SEXY!
    By A132BOCLCHDB3H on 2007-12-17
I was doing alot of research on a fan that had cherry blades and a similar finish to Stainless steel. This was the first fan that crossed my path. HD was way overpriced on this item when I shopped around and amazon had it in stock and I got it in one and put it up in no time.

The instructions could have been a little more clear to actually show what screws when to what part. It would have sped up my install even faster.

Fan is quiet and I like how how the remote covers the light switch so no one will be turning it on and off.

  • bought it cheaper

  • 3 Hunter Palermo fans
    By A1OSDMJW6G6CJG on 2008-02-24
Fans arrived in timely manner but we have not yet mounted them. They are to be used for a remodel that is not yet ready for lighting fixtures to be installed. We have many hunter fans that have lasted for 30 years, and that is why we ordered all hunters for the renovation.

  • Nice fan
    By A3LDHOX9CXGYTL on 2008-03-14
The fan itself works great.I had trouble mounting the fan to the electrical box in the ceiling because I needed to install a wooden cross brace between the joists to hold the box. The fan is mounted by installing screws through the electrical box to the wooden cross brace instead of mounting to the threads on the box itself like some other brand ceiling fans I have installed. Maybe other manufactures do it this way also or maybe because this fan is on the heavy side.

  • Remote control does not consistently work
    By A604CBKW1PUMQ on 2008-06-09
Bought the Palermo because of its look and the hope that by avoiding a Home Depot/Lowe's knock-off I would buy a superior product.

The controls worked sporadically after installation - but getting a change in fan speed or light required dozens of button presses. Occasionally something would change - so the remote did communicate with the fan - but completely inconsistently.

Trying different dipswitch settings and a different remote control accomplished nothing; neither did changing relative position between the fan and I.

Calls to customer care took much too long to answer - 45 minute hold times were my experience - after trying to leave a message (per the automated system direction) in a full mailbox meant going back into queue.

The answer I finally received from customer service was "your remote is experiencing interference. Not our problem."

Without an alternate way to bypass the inferior quality remote control, and incredibly poor customer service support, I would strongly urge anyone looking for a fan to look elsewhere.

  • Very nice fan

I have an older two story home built in 1967 and the upstairs ceilings are just under 8 feet high. There aren't many modern looking fans that work on a lower ceiling. The huggers that I've found all have the same look of the brass fluted case with the flower shaped lights. Was looking for something modern and a bit more masculine and this was the one.

TIP: Make sure you use a standard light switch with it instead of a dimmer switch. First time I put it up it hummed like crazy, I was really bummed. Then I did some searching and found on the hunter site they say not to use a dimmer switch, that will cause the humming.

Also the light is either on or off and it's a florescent light. I did find the GE Kitchen and Bath natural light which looks good, just takes getting used to. Doesn't quite give you that warm glow like the standard incandescent light bulb.

  • Bad quality, the fan failed after three days
    By A1BX2A5TY9VCHY on 2008-04-21
The name Hunter is supposed to be a reference in fans. Well this one did not live up to its reputation. Although installed by a qualified and experienced electrician, it only lasted three days. I am a very disappointed customer.

Easy to install once you figured what screws to use for certain parts. Took about an hour to install the first and 30 minutes to install the second. The Fan is quiet smooth and moves air well.

  • big dissapointment
    By A2NRPT7G32QG6R on 2008-05-23
This fan arrived with some screws missing -- maybe reconditioned? I bougth it as "new" Got the missing screws at the harware store and mounted the fan. It had a very distinct/loud humming sound (not "silent" as Hunter claims). It also wobbles badly even at medium speed, something that coud not be corrected even with the kit included. I notified Amazon and will be returning this item as "defective".

  • QUALITY , GREAT LOOKING
    By A3KMET9XXSPSVR on 2008-05-23
We needed a great looking ceiling fan for our living space. A friend told us to stay with HUNTER fans. He was right. This model came with everything included in the box - even the remote. The fan blades can be reversed to allow a change of look. It is so quiet. The single light gives a clean look. All of the parts are sturdy and well made.

  • Hunter Palermo 52" Ceiling Fan
    By A1NA6VEPTIO4K1 on 2008-05-25
This is a great looking fan. It matches the stainelss steel of my kitchen applicances. It was, however, difficult to install. My son installed it and he is good at this kind of stuff and it took him 2 1/2 hours. It is much more different to install than most other fans, but it is worth it for the great designer look.

After reading many of the reviews for this fan, I have to tell you the fan looks great and runs very quietly. I understand some folks had some issues with the install, I had an electrician friend install mine and heard no complaints from him regarding the instructions. He did say not to use a dimmer switch for the fan, it will cause a vibration sound. Other than that, the fan was worth the money.

  • Remote problem
    By A6I3SBPRQ6DWC on 2008-06-12
The fan is great, but the wiring is too tight in the space available. Very hard to assemble. Also, when there is a power failure and then restored, the light comes back on. This is not good for a traveling person, since it could be on for days.
