Oxo Good Grips Cherry Pitterx$9.99
    (49 reviews)
Best Price: $9.99
With the OXO Good Grips Cherry Pitter, baking cherry pies, canning cherries and making homemade preserves are no longer the pits. The Cherry Pitter features a removable splatter shield that directs juices downward and prevents them from soiling your work area. When not in use, the splatter shield fits inside the front chamber and a lock holds the Cherry Pitter closed for convenient storage. Sturdy, die-cast zinc construction removes pits with ease, and soft, comfortable non-slip handles absorb pressure while you squeeze. The cherry holder is extra large to accommodate Bing and Rainier cherries and has a recessed cup to securely hold smaller varieties when pitting. Also try the Cherry Pitter to prepare fresh cherries for small children. The Cherry Pitter should be placed in the dishwasher in its unlocked position.

Wonderful By A3LDQM3GCURG92 on 2007-06-25
I own a Pampered Chef cherry pitter, so I really didn't need another. The problem with the old one is that you'd have a fine splatter of cherry juice nearby and eventually your hand would hurt. Oxo has solved both issues! The splatter guard is wonderful and the grip really does cushion your hand. Bonus -- dishwasher safe and locks for storage! It also works on olives.
Kudos to the Oxo team for making some solid product impovements! I'm passing my old Pampered Chef one down the family line.
nice efficient cherry pitter By AE4UBXPQZUNI0 on 2007-07-29
I previously owned 2(!) Leifheit Pro Line cherry pitters because that's the only pitter of this kind the local stores carry. With each, the plunger fell out at the first use. Finally I got this OXO cherry pitter at Amazon, where I could see on the picture that the plunger cannot fall out. I just used it, and it's really nice to use, the splatter shield helps reducing the splatter, it's easy to clean and store. It very efficiently takes the pit out of medium size firm cherries. When cherries are very big or softer, the pit might stay connected with the cherry and it's a little harder to get it out when the splatter shield is attached. This is a minor inconvenience though and not a complaint. Altogether the OXO did it's job very well and I did not have to hammer the plunger back in only to find it go out with the next cherry again.
works perfectly By A1MO3CYR3NMRLS on 2007-12-31
I've never used another cherry pitter before but this one works perfectly every time. I bought it so I could quickly pit cherries for my kids. I like how it locks closed for storage. The shield comes off to wash. Effortless pitting, and while it does splatter, it is awesome. Makes the sink look like a crime scene.
A Very good product By A1IQK0SLPXCZMN on 2007-07-10
This is my first and probably my last cherry pitter. It's simple to use and works great. The splash shield contains almost the squirting juice. It makes a satisfying click when the pit is gone.
Love this pitter! By A22NZTW95ETZRK on 2007-08-17
This pitter does exactly what I want it to do -- pit the cherries and not splatter me and everything in sight!
- Love it!
     By A159IGE3AGVKT1 on 2007-12-29
I purchased this after my last pitter broke. I bought it from Pampered Chef, but unfortunately, it didn't even last a year. This one works (and lasts) way better, not to mention that it's not terribly expensive. I find this item easy to clean, which is a plus, considering how sticky cherry juice can be. It also creates less of a mess than my old pitter, due to the plastic shield. I highly recommend!

Great item, very helpful and much cleaner way to prepare cherries for pies or fruit salads. Sturdy enough for the kids who will love pitting for you!
- Good Buy
     By A2TZ4ROFTNICBU on 2008-01-18
I have been making my own baby food and when it came time to introduce Cherries I was not looking forward to pitting each individual cherry to mash them up for her. So, I thought I would try the Cherry Pitter. It really does work. Occassally it did miss the seed and pop out some of the fruit or a good deal of fruit would come out with the seed, but rarely. Overall, its a great product and keeps you from having to eat around the seed in your mouth and spit it into a cup, gross.
- a must have
     By A1F1G8QNE57OOE on 2008-01-18
I have yet to pit cherries, but I've pitted lots of olives!!!
OXO brands are sturdy, and work well! If you love olives but hate eating around a pit! GET THIS!!! kitchen tool!!!
- A MUST-HAVE tool for every kitchen!!!!!
     By AQX5ZDKASV6TL on 2008-06-13
I bought this pitter based on the reviews here and I am very happy with it. It's a tool no kitchen should be without, kids or not. Cherries are pitted easily. Occasionally, it does miss a pit or 2, but not enough to be a problem. You could go through a whole bag of cherries effortlessly with this tool. I didn't get a whole lot of juice on my hands while using the product, only when picking the pits up out of the sink. No regrets on this purchase. Great product, great price! No need to buy a more expensive pitter.
- Very annoyed
     By A3BNB7VKNMAUW8 on 2008-06-28
I had this for a while and after trying to modify it to get it to actually work, I gave up and bought the KitchenAid version. This pitter seems nice but works only 50% of the time simply because the shaft is about 1/2 and inch too short. It does not clear the hole for the pit and so half the time the pit is left still connected to the cherry.
Very annoying, otherwise it seems like a nice product, but because the shaft is just a bit to sort it does not work.
- Best design I've ever seen in cherry pitters
     By A3HRPK6ZWZ3SG on 2008-07-01
I love this cherry pitter. I used to have an older style that my grandmother used. On this pitter, the top of the rod that actually pushed the pit out looked sort of like the control end of a dental syringe. It wasn't great, but it was a hell of a lot easier than trying to push pits out with a wooden skewer. When I went to replace that pitter, I was a little dazed by sticker shock (I expected to find one similar to the one I used to have and pay maybe $5-6). I only found this model but was desperate and forked over the money. Well, it turned out to be worth every penny. I bought 4 lbs. of cherries because they were on sale and I wanted to make some pies. I pitted the entire batch in about 40 minutes. Amazing! Ten minutes per pound -- and that was on my first run while I was still working on my technique of using the device. I'm very happy with this pitter. :) Works well on the few varieties of olives I've tried too.
- Very Handy

This tool makes eating cherries much easier. Now I can eat more cherries! I highly recommend it.
- Nice product
     By A3INBMYMFA56U2 on 2007-08-01
I am enjoying this cherry pitter as it quickly and easily does its job. The splatter guard protects a great deal though a minimal of juice splatters around the top, but I don't know how you'd avoid that. It's easy to clean and folds and locks for storing.
- this one works
     By A18JSALZFTKKRR on 2007-08-24
this one works b ut you`ll still get juice on your hands with the larger bing cherries.

This is a very good pitter for cherries. It has the shield which helps it from squirting on clothing.

     By A2AA1DF93NHBGJ on 2007-12-26
works great! It is so easy that my kids (age 4 and 6) can do it themselves. I give them two bowls, one to pit into and the other to put the cherries in. They love to use it, it keeps the area clean and it keeps them clean. Great buy!
- Great gadget!!
     By A1HS0V9TH1WTME on 2008-01-18
This gadget is the greatest thing ever. Pitting cherries is a real pain-but not with this handy little item. I was afraid it would squish the cherries or make a giant hole in the top and the bottom. It make only a small home in the bottom, and the hole at the top (stem end) is barely noticable. Great tool for a gadget junkie like me!
- Wonderful Little Gaget!
     By A3G60WH3G0RC04 on 2008-01-26
I did a lot of research on Amazon before I bought this pitter. I bought this one based on all of the reviews & I'm sure glad that I did! This thing is WONDERFUL! It's sturdy & efficient. I also love the clear plastic around where the seed comes out! It prevents a lot of mess. This unit is also easy to clean. You're gonna love this thing!
- good tool
     By A32A9YXUECQNF2 on 2008-06-02
As other reviewers have mentioned, this is a great tool to have if you have kids. I have a toddler who loves fresh fruit and now I can prepare cherries for him quickly and easily, with much less mess. Will be great for making desserts with fresh cherries now, too.
- Quite a Handy Gadget
     By A1Y0KYP58LC0RD on 2007-09-06
I tried this gadget out on a bowl of cherries as soon as it arrived, and I was not disappointed with my purchase. It worked just as advertised, and the little shield did a good job of keeping the juice from spraying all over the kitchen. I was motivated to buy this because my toddler grandson loves cherries but I didn't want to let him swallow too many pits. This is way easier than cutting each cherry in two and removing the pit with a paring knife.
- Cherry Pitter
     By A38C8QBYY0HPC8 on 2007-12-28
This pitter works very well. On occasion a pit will remain hanging by a thread, but this is pretty rare. It fits the relatively large cherries I just purchased. And I am thankful for the splatter shield since I am prone to staining my clothes.
- Yahoo! No more stained fingers!
     By A2SH5PD0517GCS on 2008-02-23
I love this cherry pitter. With two young children who adore cherries, it was all I could do to keep up with them using a paring knife for pitting. With this purchase, I'm fast enough to eat a cherry or two myself without incurring demands for "more", all without acquiring burgundy fingernails. I love it. Most of the time, especially with firm cherries, the pits are entirely removed; occasionally with softer cherries I need to finish the job.
- Works great!
     By A39YHPBPKQP54S on 2008-06-05
I had a recipe for cherry preserves, which recommended using a cherry pitter. I had never seen one before, but then I saw it on Amazon. The product works very efficiently. Oxo has made a great design. It is comfortable and stores compactly.
- So easy...
     By A3KLQLEJLZ7CTJ on 2008-06-07
I love this pitter. We have a cherry tree in our backyard and I get tired of pitting the cherries for my three year-old and all the other neighborhood kids. This pitter is so easy to use that even my preschooler can use it. He loves to pit his own cherries and with the shield, I feel it is safe for him to do it.
- semi-pitter
     By A3KMYJMM8LZJ83 on 2008-07-09
Perhaps, the sour cherries were too small for the pitter, but very few attempts resulted in a clean "pitting". The pit was usually still attached to the cherry and had to be removed by hand. After placing cherry in pitter, you press the plunger, remove semi-pitted cherry, remove pit, and place pit and cherry in respective containers. The procedure is a bit more compex (and messy) than I envisioned. Next time, I will use a knife for a few pounds to see if the Oxo is worth the trouble. The item is well made and comfortable to use but just didn't work for me.
- almost great
     By A3O5GTDT1PD9U7 on 2008-07-06
Got this for cherry season - works well but sometimes the pusher doesn't push the seed all the way out and you have to pull it - this gets really tedious when pitting enough cherries for 3 pies at a time. Other than that it has a good feel in the hand and does get the job done better than manually with a chopstick.
- Eliminates Cherry Juice Splatter
     By A16IW0HRXTGVWF on 2008-07-18
Works very well. Perhaps 1 out of 10 cherries may not be pitted if you don't place the cherry just so. Otherwise, it punches out a pretty clean pit.

Had even more success by putting the cherry in place stem side down (with stem intact.
Also doubles as an olive pitter!
See my youtube video demonstrating the pitter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huRn9TWcUUU
- pitter
     By A1ZRYQ0I2KZQFQ on 2008-07-20
Item came quickly, no problem w/seller. I was a bit disappointed w/the pitter, not knowing exactly how one works. It is helpful, but I think slower than pitting by hand. Nevertheless, I am glad that I got it.
- Fun to work with
     By A3KUDAHUACDEI6 on 2008-07-21
The farmer's market always seem to have fresh cherries in two pound bags - and I'm not a big fan of spitting out the pits - so this works great, although does take some time since you're only pitting one cherry at a time (I guess there are some high-speed pitters out there!).
