With just one click, you can download data via the HEM-790IT's USB connection and see graphically displayed measurements on your computer screen in seconds. Instructions for Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitors There are several easy steps to taking your blood pressure with this blood pressure monitor. First of all, avoid eating, smoking, and exercising for at least 30 minutes before taking a measurement. Remove tight-fitting clothing from your upper arm, and sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor. Slide your left arm through the cuff and position the cuff approximately 0.5-inches above the elbow. On the cuff you'll notice a green marker; position this marker directly over the artery on the inside of your arm. Next, secure the cuff with the Velcro material. The cuff should make direct contact with your skin, but you should be able to easily fit your index finger between the cuff and your arm. Place your arm on a table so that the cuff is positioned at the same level as your heart. Rest comfortably in a relaxed environment for at least 15 minutes prior to taking your blood pressure measurement. Once you feel relaxed, simply press the start button and remain still. The cuff will begin to inflate and numbers will appear on the display as the heart symbol flashes. When the measurement is complete, the cuff will deflate, and your blood pressure and pulse rate will display on the screen. If you need to stop the measurement at any time, simply press the on/off button and the monitor will immediately deflate. And remember, always consult your physician for specific information about your blood pressure. What is IntelliSense? The IntelliSense monitor inflates the cuff to the ideal level with each use -- you never have to make any adjustments to select an inflation level. This is especially convenient for hypertensive users and for people with certain arrhythmia or heart disorders because their blood pressure is so likely to fluctuate. The biggest advantage of using the IntelliSense technology is a personalized inflation, every time, for maximum comfort. The Importance of Home Blood Pressure Monitoring Doctors, diabetes educators, physician assistants, nurses, and other healthcare professionals all recommend home blood pressure monitoring for various reasons. Home monitoring provides your healthcare professionals with better information to understand and manage your high blood pressure. Many types of hypertension can only be detected by monitoring your blood pressure at home, including: - White-coat Hypertension: blood pressure reading is high in your doctor's office but lower at home
- Masked Hypertension: blood pressure reading is low in doctor's office but higher at home
- Morning Hypertension: blood pressure reading is higher in the morning
Additionally, many factors can affect your blood pressure, including physical exertion, emotional fluctuations, medications, and stress. So having your blood pressure monitored at a pharmacy with an in-store device after you've been shopping or walking around might not provide you with the most accurate measurement. Monitoring your blood pressure at home allows you achieve a relaxed state more easily, and it gives you the flexibility to take your measurements at various times during the day. By keeping track of your home blood pressure readings, you can provide your healthcare professional with a log of your measurements over time. This can help them evaluate the effectiveness or need for medication.

Reliable, consistent, durable and accurate. By A3IPSECQAUAT8V on 2007-11-30
Outstanding quality, consistency and accuracy! At the end of the day that is all you can ask from a blood pressure cuff (sphygmomanometer). A few things to bear in mind: In consecutive readings done at the same time, you will see a trend from higher to lower blood pressure as you "learn" to lower your own pressure. Also, your blood pressure at home will be lower than that you obtain at your doctor's office until you learn to overcome the anxiety normally associated with the doctor's office. This is normal and is one of the main reasons to obtain a home blood pressure monitor. Also, your pressure will fluctuate from day to day and even during a blood pressure monitoring session.
Let me give you an example: My heart rate is anywhere from 52 to 58. As the blood pressure cuff deflates your systolic pressure is the first pulse that the unit detects. The cuff pressure deflates 5-10 mm between each heart beat. So, depending on the timing of your pulse, your pressure reading will fluctuate approximately 5-10 mm systolic and diastolic. When your pressure is taken manually the operator can regulate the rate of deflation of the cuff so as to reduce the measurement error. So don't automatically assume that the gauge is not giving accurate readings! Trust me, it is.
This monitor has been extensively tested against measurements obtained at the doctor's office and has been determined to be as accurate a method of determining blood pressure as you would obtain at the doctor's office - actually, more accurate since the anxiety factor is eliminated.
For some reason, when I purchased this item, it was cheaper than the Omron HEM-780, so purchasing it was a no brainer! I saved $5. Is it worth a little more than the HEM-780? It does have a few more bells and whistles including the software. But it is essentially the same unit. If you think you'd use the software which is kind of slick then by all means get this unit rather than the 780. Personally, I would definitely pay MORE, now that I have it and have used it, for this unit. The software if very helpful in keeping your BP records. Otherwise, the units are nearly identical in producing consistent accurate results.
So if you are looking for the best home blood monitor device on the market look no further. Just realize that there are minor variances in the readings attributable to fluctuations in your blood pressure and slight measurement error. I would also recommend the unit with the software - this can come in very handy in tracking your BP and its fluctuations. It also can provide you with a printed record of your readings for your doctor.
I heartily endorse this product.
This one works - but.... By A33ASWO7FB0TS8 on 2007-08-24
I like it - it works. The software keeps track - but the software needs work.
I wrote to the company - there are several issues:
1. There's no way to edit the data. With two users it's easy to not have the right one selected when you take a reading. After uploading, the only way to edit the data is to export to Excel, edit, erase the database and then import the corrected data.
2. It's stored in an Access database, but it's password protected - why?
3. The user cannot direct where the database is kept, it's in the Programs folder on the OS drive.
The device works great, but the software...
She's a no work By A3EW8WLL2XFLDB on 2007-08-21
I just got the product, and set it up according to the very clear instructions. IMO, the manual is too much paper for such a simple-to-use device. After getting rid of all the "don't take a hair-dryer into the bathtub" idiot warnings, the instructions boil down to about three pages.
The product is simple to use, and it presents its results in a nice big font. Even a bear-of-very-little-brain such as myself should have no problems. It's packaged well, the unit is clean and attractive, and everything fits together nicely in the enclosed carrying case.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work.
By coincidence, I had a doctor's appointment this afternoon. This morning, I got the product set up and used it several times over the course of about an hour. It consistently showed my BP in the range of 150/110, plus or minus maybe 7 points.
"Oh crap! Time to increase my BP medication."
So I went to the doctor's office, and got tested by the nurse there. 120/70. "Good number!" she said. I was so upset over the Omron result that I asked her to check it again to be sure. Still good.
Maybe, I thought, it was the dreaded "morning hypertension," a key factor in strokes (!!). In fact, I had never heard of morning hypertension until I started looking at home BP products. But forewarned is forearmed, right?
Well, I came home from the doctor's and ran the machine a few more times. 150/110.
I like this product, and I desperately want it to work for me. But I don't think that "just subtract 40 points" is a good plan to keep using it. I'm going to get in touch with tech support and see what they tell me.
For what it's worth, I'm a big guy. I'm over 6'4", and my bicep is at the upper end of the sleeve measurement - maybe that's part of the problem. I hope not, because I didn't see anything about a super-large sleeve being available.
All the other reviews on the product are positive, and that's a good sign - maybe I just got a bad one. But if you do buy this product, I strongly recommend you confirm the readings, especially if they are high, before you panic. I paniced first, but fortunately my doctor's appointment was able to calm me down a few hours later.
Omron HEM-790IT Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with Advanced Omron Health Management Software By A16S9XJK968XMS on 2007-07-21
The hardware works great, but the management software needs improvement.
1. The window can not maximize to fit the screen.
2. The printing of graphs includes menus and other non-essential items. It should maximize the graph.
3. The printing of the data list does not allow to print the entire data, unless the data is exported to EXCEL.
4. The software can not display arbitrary intervals,i.e., the end of a month to the next month, a two week interval, etc.
5. The software should be able to graph the statistical trend lines.
6. The software should be able to graph the week-to-week comparizon.
There are many more suggestions, but I can do what I want to do with data in EXCEL. Therefore, it is not a problem for me.

Great product. Functions exactly as described. Be aware that as of September 2007, the Omron Health Management software is not qualified for Windows Vista and documentation indicates it will only run on Windows 2000 and XP. Omron told me they do not have a plan for qualifying it on Vista at this time. However, I tried installing it on Vista, skipping the installation of .Net Framework Version 1.0 (because Vista's .Net version at this time is 3.0). The installation proceeded without event and the software worked fine. Omron has a software update/documentation web presence where I assume a Vista-qualified version of software will be available when released.
- Well worth the price...
     By AG7BM783G8EMY on 2007-07-27
My doctor recommended getting this device. I had a lot to choose from, but this one came with added software.
It is VERY Easy to use, and if I am on vacation, I can take the unit "on the road", and then download the data to my computer once I'm back from vacation.
The software enables me to print out my readings for the period chosen and give it to my doctor on my next visit, and I don't have to do "data entry" into an EXCEL program. (GREAT Time saver!)
Highly recommended!
- Hmm.. Are there FDA regulations for these?
     By A1VRPC5HI6JR7H on 2007-11-05
I ordered two of them one for me and the other for my parents. They arrived fine and there was no issues with amazon's amazing supply chain management. I wanted to calibrate them together. One was showing a reading of 90/60 and the other one show 105/65 taken within an interval of 5 minutes. I am a normal healthy male with 120/80. The ones in walmart / publix / target / my doctors office show the correct 120/80. But this one has such a different reading. I tried them at least 20 times and the closest that I got was 110/68. In my opinion this is still way too much of deviation and returned both of them. I don't understand how such a deviation is acceptable for a life saving medical device.
- Reads slightly low, but consistent
     By A2KPDVBIEQ2LLP on 2007-11-26
Accuracy. My wife is a health care professional, and I am a software engineer. We own a HEM-790IT which we both use, and my wife has an Omron HJ-720IT pedometer, which she uses. Today we both took our BP using the Omron, then took it manually. The systolic was 4 low on the Omron, and the diastolic was 10 low on the Omron. We used the TruRead Mode, which takes three consecutive readings. We have found that this is more accurate than Single Mode. I would like to have it more accurate, but I find that all BP machines have some error, compared to manual reading, and this error is not too bad. At least it is consistent in reading low by the same amount.
Software. I generally agree with the criticisms of other reviewers, about the software, but they are minor in nature, and I found the software to be reasonably adequate, and most people will enjoy using it. I installed the software on a Vista computer with no problems - use the install instructions for Windows XP. I agree with PajamaGuy - the data is kept in an Access database, which is password protected, and I am not given the password or any option to not have it password protected. I would like to be able to fix errors, such as when my wife or I take our BP with the wrong user selected. Most users will not want to use the Access database, so this will not matter to them.
The cuff is very easy to put on your arm, without any help.
- CUFF ADJUSTMENT SOLUTION
     By A3EU8E761JFIXT on 2007-10-11
The machine is outstanding, however there is one quirk that is easily fixable. I have found that the reason that I was getting frequent error messages on "start up" was because the software shut off the machine after 10 seconds if the cuff had not detected a signal from the arm artery, and 10 seconds was not enough time to build up the pressure above 30 which is needed to push the cuff against the arm artery hard enought to get a strong signal to the cuff.
The solution that works for me when starting the machine, is to push the "blue line" on the outside of the cuff, very close to where to hose enters the cuff, and push very hard (with about 15 lbs force) against the arm artery until the meter reads at least 30, then you can release the pushing.
I am extreemly happy with the machine.
- Didn't work for me
     By A1EL82POE7BCM4 on 2007-09-09
I've been looking for a new blood pressure monitor. I had been using Mark of Fitness MF-81 Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor for the last year, and while it gave me very steady results, they were always lower than my actual blood pressure reading.
After looking over the reviews, I selected this Omron monitor with the software. It never worked for me. The cuff is very comfortable, but I received more error readings than actual readings. When I received readings they were usually about 10 to 20 points lower than my actual pressure. The readings also varied greatly each time I took them.
I really wish this unit would have worked. I gave it two stars because I loved the cuff and the idea of the software. I never used the software since I was forced to return the whole thing when I couldn't get an accurate blood pressure reading.
- Top Cuff
     By A3FFVE3X1QB5R5 on 2008-01-20
OK, I got this cuff because I have a VERY picky physician. I haven't been tracking my BP too well and was read the "riot act" in order to have me go and get a cuff. Well, he said that, no matter which cuff I got, HE would have to check it for accuracy, and that he rejects over half of all the cuffs he sees. BTW, don't even think about getting a finger or wrist cuff. He rejects most all of them for inaccuracies of some sort. He also wanted me to email him my readings every month and he would call me in if he saw a problem trend. So I got this unit because it allows me to just download the readings and I could paste them into an email and everyone would be happy. And I got it from Amazon because they have an iron-clad return policy, just in case I needed to exercise it. Well, the day came that I sent in my first batch of readings and went in to have the unit (and me) checked. My doctor gave my cuff perfect marks. Its reading was within a couple points (dia/sys/pulse) of his personal reading taken a minute apart. He was also impressed with its trending features and alerts. He even wrote down the brand/model to pass on to other patients as the "doctor recommended" model of BP cuff.
After all that, you may want to know how well the unit operates. Well, I don't use the power adapter at all. Don't even know why they include one. It's been running strong on batteries since the day I got it (3 readings a day for 6 weeks now). When these batteries finally die, I'm glong to put in Li-Ions and see just how long they last. The cuff goes on easily and auto-inflates/deflates quickly without sacrificing accuracy. Once a week, I plug the base unit into a USB port on my computer and DL the data into the included "management" program. Overall, a pretty good program that slices/dices the data and displays it based on various criteria. I'm just scratching my head why it supports up to 1000 users, but OK. Except for the initial programming of the time/date/etc., I did ALL this without cracking the manual. I'm happy, my doctor's happy, nuff said.
- This is a good one.
     By A29FLSJFIGIZX9 on 2007-08-26
Taking blood pressures just at the doctor's office doesn't really tell you your BP over time. The way to know that is taking your own blood pressures frequently at home. Then take the blood pressures to the doctor's office with you. That's the best way to evaluate how effective bloos pressure control medications are working for each individual. I've been doing this for 20 years (an my doctor scolds me if I don't bring a BP flow chart with me.) This machine is the best one I've had. The design of the cuff that wraps your arm is unusual and much easier to use than others. The machine itself is well constructed and very sturdy. The AC adapter is included but I install batteries for a back-up. The testing is quick and accurate. They built an advanced averaging feature into the machine that insures accurate reading. The memory hold 80 readings. So, just take your BP and don't worry about any extra recording work for about three months if you take your BP daily. The software installs easy and works just fine. It's simple as simple can be to download the 80 reading to your PC. You just print the reports that software provides and take the reports to your doctor. Are your BP medications really working for you? There's only one way to know: take your own BPs at home a lot. This machine makes it easy and accurate to do that.
- Excellent, professional quality instrument
     By A2KM5TI3IQDD7L on 2007-11-02
I bought this monitor as a replacement for a similar device (Mabis SmartRead) I had purchased for about $20 less without doing much research, but from a usually reliable source (not Amazon). Everything I expected, but did not get, from the Mabis product, the Omron delivers. It is extremely easy to use. The Comfit Cuff is a very important feature because you can literally raise your blood pressure trying to get the right fit from the Mabis cuff and ones like it, whereas the Omron cuff is a breeze - a similar experience and almost as easy to use as the cuffs on commercial machines for self-testing found in pharmacies. The Omron is a sturdy, accurate device in which I have confidence, and with the Health Management Software included, I no longer have to do a side log of readings and charting is automatic. This device is definitely a good value for your money and Amazon's price was the best.
- An Excellent Monitor
     By A2YVSZCUTYCRCR on 2008-02-19
I bought this Omron unit after having tried two different Homedics/Walgreen's devices, both of which measured my BP about 10-20% high (as compared with clinic/gym manual measurements).
The Omron unit seems to be much more accurate. The cuff is quite easy to put on. The User A/User B choice is done via a sliding switch on the front, which is much more positive than other units I have seen.
The software installed (under XP) straight forwardly, and data download was easy. I believe another reviewer criticized the s/w because you could not "re-direct" the install to a directory of your choice. This is false.
The three reading-average mode of operation is also quite east to set. You can chose to take three readings between 15/30/60 seconds of each other (default=60 sec.), and the machine automatically averages them to get a reading that is less likely to be influenced by measurement error.
All in all, an excellent product, and less expensive than either of the two error-prone Walgreens units I tried.
- Omron HEM 7901T Blood Pressure Monitor
     By AW2SAF6YTOBY4 on 2008-07-10
I selected this unit primarily based on its ability to identify an abnormal heartbeat and alert the user to its presence. This unit provides that capability.
This unit can store and upload the data it records to a PC, which with the included software is capable of generating a csv formatted file as well as the ability to output tabulator data in a pdf file. I have found this a useful feature in allowing me to aggregate several days' worth of data and fax/email it to my doctors.
In addition to having a brick type power supply the unit has an internal battery which makes it much more portable than other units. While the included manual was helpful I didn't really need to refer to it much in order to understand how the unit operates.
I'm an engineer and tend to be particular about not settling for second best. I did a lot of research before purchasing this unit and have to say that I'm very pleased with how it has performed. I would have no problem with recommending this unit to anyone who has an ongoing need to monitor and track their blood pressure.
- Excellent and convient
     By A351RUN1SJB5EK on 2007-08-03
I've had borderling BP for years and had some scary hypertensive urgencies in January(mimic stroke). Well my old electrnic cuff just varied to much in reading to trust any longer and I was a little too lazy at times to use the old manual cuff so after doing a little research bought this one. It was brand new on the market had to wait an extra week for the supplier to get their first shipment in. While I agree the included software has a few weak points it makes keeping and printing out records of my BP for my doctor much easier. Oh we have found a good treatment plan that is keep me BP at a healthy level generally below 120/80. The only problem with this device if you are a tech person you will be tempted to take reading at least three differnt times of the day to get the morning, daytime, evening options represented in the software. My doctor told me to take my pressure less often. Now since I've stablized at good reading I take it every couple of days on the average. As somone else stated if you really want to do a lot with the date you can expoert it to excel.
- Best Blood Pressure Monitor Ever!
     By A3QNEHBI7AA7SF on 2007-07-29
This is my fourth blood pressure monitor over past 8 years. This is the best. Love ease of use, memory, and interface to PC for further history and graphing.
Highly recommended.
- OK but Can Be Really Annoying!
     By A3FDSGYUIIICEZ on 2007-12-02
While the Omron HEM-707IT seems to be accurate, it can be difficult to live with.
PROS: Accuracy, ease of use when it decides to work, can maintain a history for two users and provide a single guest reading, has an AC adapter, will alert to excessive movement or irregular heart beat, included software and export to an Excel spread sheet for better analysis.
Cons: the preformed cuff! The internal software does not work well with the included cuff causing frequent errors.
In general, this unit works as you would expect a blood pressure monitor to work. Additionally, it can perform three consecutive measurements and average them for a somewhat better reading. When compared with the readings in the doctor's office, the Omron is different by about 4 units which is probably good enough in that blood pressure readings done with stethoscope are somewhat dependent on the user. It is a bit on the large size but a carrying case is included.
My complaint is that the HEM-790IT fails too often to inflate the cuff. It seems to wait for only about four or five seconds to achieve a minimum inflation level before aborting the reading, waiting and then trying it again. If it would try for an additional two seconds or so, I believe that it would be successful. In order to overcome this failure, I squeeze the cuff until it reaches about 30mm and then slowly release my grip on it. It will then continue to perform its measurement. Unfortunately, email to Omron produced no response to my inquiry on this issue.
The included software for your computer is minimal but works well enough to show a history. The data can be exported to Excel where you have more control of how the data is presented and where you have the ability to add notations.
This probably is not the best blood pressure monitor for the money but unfortunately I am not familiar with the rest; but that is why you are doing research right now isn't it?
Oh yes, Amazon treated me well as usual. This is one of the first places I go to when starting my research on product purchase.
- disappointed
     By A2JORZY7F149FH on 2008-03-10
I had high expectation for the product after reading its reviews, however it did not produce the expected results. Comparing this BP monitor with one in a hospital, the Ormon monitor registered about 20-30 points higher.
Perhaps I just got a faulty one, but I did return it and am now trying a new brand.
- Recieved a faulty devise
     By A3370QOVAOSQCB on 2008-05-13
I bought this for my mother but within the first week, the Omron monitor started registering 30 points higher. This really scared my mother (who already has high blood pressue). She panicked and ended up going to the hospital to find out it was the Omron monitor and not her. Clearly a faulty one, and I returned to amazon. This product seems to work as advertised but I have to question the accuracy. If I take several readings withing a short period of time they can vary by as much as 15% to 25%. I expected more from a top end product.
- An excellent choice!

I'm very happy with this. I have very large arms and was worried that the cuff wouldn't fit however it fits with room to spare. The screen is large and easy to read, even in low light. The buttons are very intuitive and easy to figure out. I have only used this for three weeks, however I highly recommend it.
- so easy to use...

My doctor recommended this monitor for me to use. He said I needed to monitor my blood pressure in the morning within a few hours of waking up. I don't have a lot of time in the morning with kids and a full time job. So I bought the monitor he recommended since it was easy to use and had the tracking software included so I don't have to remember to write things down. This monitor makes it easy for me to do this every day since it only takes a few minutes. I highly recommend this monitor to anyone who needs to watch their blood pressure. I am thankful my doctor recommended it.
- omron cuff is joke
     By A1QBWBLPKKB5SY on 2007-12-02
Cuff is a joke. After using it for two weeks, the cuff became very hard to use, causing the monitor to fail, and I have junked it, and went back to my old Eckerd's bp monitor.
- Low Accuracy and Inconsistent
     By A3PVF03QPPCOX1 on 2007-12-18
This product Omron HEM-790IT only gives you occasionally correct pulse rates, but the blood pressure readings are just unreliable and often inaccurate.I bought this product because this was the top of their line stuff, and now I wonder what the other models would be like.I cross checked the readings of this product several times with my Physician on his manual BP device and found the accuracy of this product to be as low as 43%.This simply means that it just didn't work properly half the time. This product simply doesn't live upto all the tall claims made by the manufacturer and the customer reviews [possibly fudged or doctored] are grossly misleading.Think twice before you buy !!!!
- Great but no ability to delete individual records
     By A4IFLQZ3G5Z14 on 2008-01-07
For what it does basically, taking blood pressure, it's great. Easy to use, appears to be very consistent. Five stars.
But, the system lacks the ability to allow deletion of individual records through the monitor or the software management. This system allows only deletion of ALL records. I use the "A" and "B" switch for two people (myself and my spouse). Sometimes, I forget to flip the switch from A to B or from B to A and make a error in recording. From what I can tell, records can only be deleted (or edited) after exporting to a spreadsheet like excel.
I like the system charting; morning/evening, daily, weekly and monthly with different screens and even printouts (even pdf). But again with the charts there is no way to delete or edit erroneous individual records for an accurate charting.
Over all, three stars.
- Pretty easy

The unit does what it claims. I haven't calibrated against an office visit mind you (but I will next time I go in).
I haven't tried the software yet either - but that's going to happen as the Doc wants to see the data samples.
My operational complaints are that:
1. There isn't (to me) an obvious way to do a single retest w/o cycling the unit on/off.
2. No way (that I can see) to erase a known bad value (i.e. shirt got in the way). I realize the software can do that but I don't intend to download for a while so how do I remember WHICH reading was bad.
- White Coat Hypertension Proven!
     By A2XURMDN3PDNBD on 2008-07-20
I kept telling my doctor that the only time I showed really high readings were in his office and he was not convinced. He asked me to buy this specific machine. The download program made it that much easier to show the true record of BPs over a period of two weeks. It is no the most intuitive of downloads but I'm comfortable enough with computers. It worked and now my doctor believes me! Thank you.
- Works great

I too have this monitor as well as the Omron pocket pedometer. I have discovered that the health management software that comes with the blood pressure monitor is compatible with the pedometer. This makes it easy to monitor both your BP rates and walking patterns for management of health conditions.
- Great monitor, good software.

This is replacing a wrist-type blood pressure monitor. It matches the results of a standard sphygmomanometer, which the wrist monitor could never do. The 3-reading averaging (over 2 minutes) is just great. The software is okay, data-collection-wise, but could use some function changes. The monitor connected easily to my computer, and the management software found it and accessed it without any problems.
