Fantastic fun at bath-time! By A1EOJ5LPKKWGX3 on 2007-09-17
My six year old loves this ship! It comes apart to reassemble into dozens of new combinations, which both challenges his dexterity and sparks his imagination - he's a pretty sharp boat designer now. As with all the Mega Rig products, it's fairly durable (we've only had one small breakage in one of the other Mega Rig toys - and we have probably a hundred pieces). And it comes with a hungry shark! Who could ask for more?
My sons current favorite toy By A2J5XAFPEXNA3M on 2007-10-30
Bought this for my 6 year old boy and it was the clear winner from all of his BD gifts. He couldn't wait to start playing with it. It has a lot of variations to toy around with and he particularly enjoys having the shark eat the captain, which is foundly named Captain "Crunch".
So far, it's not fallen apart or been broken by rough play, so it may last a few weeks!
Another great toy in the Mega Rig line! By AHX12MOTJPWLA on 2007-11-18
My boys (ages 5 and 7) love the variety in the Mega Rig items each year. This is no exception. It is a pretty big set with lots of options for creating smaller boats. My younger son received it for his birthday, and he immediately created two smaller boats (to share with his brother and sister) along with the large section. They even combine the other Mega Rig sets to create different areas of their "world" on the living room rug.
The best feature for me is the fact that the shark has a slit on the underside. I can get my finger in there and poke out anything that the shark has "eaten", so nothing gets stuck there.
A previous reviewer gave this a very low rating simply because it includes a harpoon (so they assumed that the entire premise of the set suggests violence). THat's nonsense! All 3 of my children haven't even used the harpoon, they are so busy with other features of the set. It hasn't even occurred to them to kill sea creatures.
Great toy By AUH9KPCAIL54Y on 2007-11-06
My nephew, who is five, loves this toy! He gets bored pretty quickly with toys. But this is one of the few that he will play with over and over again. There are alot of interactive parts such as the hook and the claw which interacts with the shark. The boat can also be taken apart to be mixed and matched into a variety of configurations including the captain action figure. I think the interaction is the main reason that my nephew loves this toy. It is a very durable toy. My nephew is very rough with his toys and after two months of constant play, it still remains intact. He has also played with this toy during bath time on many occasions.
A big hit By AS6FSBGB81Q6Y on 2007-11-25
My kids love this thing! Funny, you never know with kids, but the mega rig shark set has outstripped all other forms of entertainment in our house. (Including SpongeBob) My 6 year old logs a solid 5 hours a day playing with this.
It actually works as well (pieces fit together, he doesn't need help from dad, etc) something that is a pleasent surprise these days.
We give this one the thumbs up!
- Lots of play possibilities
     By A2E7R0KZ62S5CJ on 2007-12-08
This was bought for my 5 year old son, but my 8 year old daughter also loves it. The set has many parts that can be configured in many ways, so there is always new vehicles to make. It is also a big hit at bathtime.
- Okay, but not great
     By A22KGF8HO7FD0B on 2007-12-27
My son loves anything related to boats or water, so he likes the ship but he doesn't like it as much as I expected. The pieces don't snap in solidly. The boat lists to the side in water. We'll keep it as there aren't a lot of big ship options for the bath tub (and the box is basically destroyed upon removal) but it's not the best purchase ever. The Imaginext Pirate Ship was much better and seems much more durable.
- A little top heavy, but fun to change
     By A3VAI5LZ9IGMNZ on 2007-12-25
I bought this for my 3yr old for Christmas. We enjoyed playing with it in the tub, but when all put together as one large boat it will not float. It's too top heavy. He's too young to have a problem with it, so we like it anyway!
- Great for my 4 year old!
     By A3HU0J815EVN9G on 2008-01-04
This was the hands-down winner for my 4 year old this christmas. The versatility and durability of the toy (in and out of the tub) is impressive. From the attention to detail, it is obvious that a lot of thought went into the development of the product.
- Fun but very tippy
     By A3KGQSM91RBOXS on 2008-01-08
The idea is good. It's nice to have the option of building different boats, but my 7 yr. old son was frustrated that his boats kept tipping over in the tub. Each boat needs the stabilizer boats to keep it from tipping. The problem is there's only one set of stabilizer boats, so one can float but all the others will tip. The shark is cool, but my son has only played with this toy once.
- the shark is awesome!
     By A2Z5GOIKFPMICH on 2007-11-29
I bought this toy for my 3 year olds birthday. He tries to play with it mostly in the tub. It's kind of hard to play with, the pieces don't float as well as the box would make you think. Some of the parts are hard to press together to get them to snap in, and some come out too easily (this is brand new) But for him it is perfect.
The best part is the shark. It eats the diver. You have to pull him out of the sharks belly!! May sound a bit rough, but for my monster/shark/dinosaur loving 3 yr old boy, it cracks him up.
Best toy shark I've seen.
- Many design flaws
     By ANP5ZZGG9U7KZ on 2007-12-30
This toy is a waste of money. The construction is shoddy, with styrofoam showing through in places where there are holes in the hull etc.
The boat also doesn't float upright in the tub-- it's not much benefit for it to "float" as advertised if it simply flops onto its side (putting the wheels on the bottom doesn't help). Hence it is falsely advertised, in my opinion.
The set only comes with two people, minimizing the play value unless you add characters from other sources.
The pieces also fall apart very easily. Many pieces are made with modular construction that don't need to be; for instance, the yellow platform's four arms constantly fall off for no reason.
Other modular pieces show the generally poor design of this toy. The harpoon is exceptionally difficult to prime and fire correctly, for instance. The shark is designed to swallow the men but let you retrieve them from its belly, but one of the men is currently wedged firmly in the shark's craw.
I'd give this one a miss if I were you, and wish I had. My son quickly lost interest in this frustrating toy and went on to play with other Christmas presents.
- Awesome Toy
     By A1IFSK08NLVYVJ on 2008-01-07
My son asked for this toy for Christmas. Honestly, I thought it would be one of the toys that he would take out of the box and play with one time and then forget about it, but that was not the case. He has played with this toy everyday since he got it! He absolutely LOVES it!
- My son Loved it
     By A2JGKJ6O69UI2P on 2007-10-29
I got this for my son on his 5th birthday. It was an instant hit for him and as well as among his friends. He loved the option of setting up various types of ships, boats. A lot of role play opportuniteis - like a captain of the ship, diver etc.,
- Fun x 4
     By AKKOQYJM75PGZ on 2007-12-17
When I first saw this, I didn't think it would be much fun. I mean seriously, a boat that you could take apart? Doesn't sound that cool to me. We already have about 4 pirate ships, why did I need a boat too? I had seen all the reviews for it, but still wasn't convinced plus it seemed like a lot of money for it. We ended up getting a great deal on this and the submarine/octopus ($25 for both!), and I caved and figured for that price, I couldn't pass it up. I wow, am I glad I got it. I have four boys ranging in ages from 3-7 and they all LOVE this. They've been playing with it non stop. Huge hit in my house. I don't know that I would have paid full price for it, but at the price I got, it's definitely a great deal! Love it.
- Shark Ship
     By A2BD5SRBSRFO7F on 2007-12-26
My 5 year old and her cousin who is 6 love this toy. The boat can be configured multiple ways, and can be rolled around. There are many parts that can be lost so designate a specific place or container to store those. The only thing that would have made this better was if it made noise or had some battery operated moving parts. A little pricey for a plastic boat.
- Fun toy
     By A1ZE4HO42AEWZT on 2007-12-28
Very fun toy for any kid who's into the ocean and wants to explore it's hidden treasures.
- Totally a blast!
     By AZGMW3U2NFC1H on 2007-12-30
My son got this for Christmas from his grandma. He Loves it! The boats float in the bathtub or make one big ship and rolls across the floor. The shark can "eat" things. The water now gets cold in the bathtub before he will finally put the toys away and get out. He is having fun with it outside right now!
- Surprises
     By A8AA5P5U3GUP3 on 2008-01-01
I bought this for my 5 year old grandson who loves sharkes and boats. At first I was concerned because of all the pieces, but it held his interest and he played with it for long periods of time.
- great ship
     By A6ZSDMRZVG4XW on 2008-01-01
my son is nearly 5 and loves this ship. it is great for in the tub or anywhere else. It was one of his favorite toys for Christmas. You can do a lot of things with this ship, i even caught my husband playing with it.
- Lots of fun
     By A2CWL3YF8ZEGT1 on 2008-01-02
I got this for my three-year-old for Christmas and it was an instant hit. He enjoys taking the pieces apart and putting them back together in lots of different ways. My only complaint is that the pieces don't always stay put together if they're tugged on a little (which kids tend to do). But, this ship does seem much more durable than most of the toys we've purchased recently, so I don't worry about it breaking. Overall, we're very happy with it!
- Watch out for the harpoon!
     By A2KAPUGU5XG1U1 on 2008-01-03
This was our son's main "I want" this Christmas. It's a lot of fun to play with. However, we've had several instances of sister-harpooning. But that's not the toy's fault. Would recommend this toy.
- flip-out
     By A34XRR6YPDUEHS on 2008-01-18
I had never heard of this toy ,but took a chance that my 5yr old grandnephew would like it. When he openMattel Matchbox Mega Rig Shark AdventureChristmas moening he FLIP-OUT, turns out he had been wanting this toy since last summer. His mom says getting him to take a bath now is very easy.

This toy is well made compared to many on the market today. It is cleverly
designed to have a lot of play value. And....The Kid Likes It! Better value that most toys.
- Bath fun too!
     By A1SRRIDMX6BH30 on 2008-01-26
We bought this toy for our son for christmas. It was and still is his favorite gift. He plays with it everyday. It can be made into different types of rigs very easily. It's great for the tub also.
- Lots of fun configuring a boat
     By AYL3CH1Y1DOB8 on 2008-01-28
This durable plastic boat is endlessly configurable into different types of ships or even a whole fleet of separate ships - which is nice when you have two or more kids fighting over who gets to be the skipper. It works well on dry land or in the tub. It's nice and sturdy, and our 6 and 4 year old boys love to play with it. It could have used a few more figurines (people) in my opinion, but that's just a quibble. All in all, a winner.
- Nice but a little pricy.
     By A1GDD0W9L8LPHZ on 2008-02-02
I'm not sure we got our money's worth out of this one. My 4 year old has played with this in the bathtub one or two times, but would rather play with the squid sub. This boat is just so overwhelming in the tub and just doesn't float right, even with moving the floaty parts around to balance it. It has MANY parts and pieces, which was a little overwhelming - to both him (figuring out where they go) & me (cleaning up all those darn things).
- Two months later, he still loves it
     By A24AIQBE1I37A9 on 2008-02-05
My son asked for this toy from Santa and received it Christmas morning. He has played with it, I kid you not, EVERY DAY since. As other reviewers have said, it's not the greatest tub toy, but I don't think it was meant to be a tub toy in the first place. My son has taken it apart and put it back together a million different ways. He also has the squid sub, and the only drawback to that, as far as I can tell, is that I keep finding purple squid parts around the house. This is an awesome toy -- don't hesitate to get it for your little one!
- AWESOME!
     By A3U97KXVJR7PDD on 2008-02-08
My son got this from Santa for Christmas and he LOVES it! It's durable and has held up to all the abuse my five year old can muster. My son loves to take it apart and make little boats and he can put it all back together on his own with out any help. He has enjoyed long hours of playtime with it. I recommend this toy!( My daughter even enjoys playing with it)
- Very Cool Toy!
     By AXMJM3UFD3YN9 on 2008-02-18
Very cool toy, durable, uses the imagination by allowing the child to create many different ships. Snaps apart and together easily by the child. My son never wants to get out of the tub! We also bought the sub which allows the ship to become motorized, a very cool set that will last a long time.
