  • Great First Game

    By A2FTLUZSOAMUIC on 2007-10-20
I was looking for a good beginner board game so we could start family game night with our 3 year old and this game is great. It is very simple and does not take too long to play a round: pull the lever and one piece shoots out of the castle (fun) and if it matches your game board you keep it and if not you put it back in the castle top. Great first game, box says 3+ but 2 year olds could easily play this game with supervision. I think it is a bit overpriced, but there is not really a great selection of easy beginner games available. (We have the Lucky Ducks game - fun but noisy! And we have Hi Ho Cherry-O - fun but 40 tiny plastic cherries!)

  • Fun game

When I saw the commercial for this toy, I had to get it for my kids who are 5 and 2. It's a cool toy for them to share and they both can learn their shapes, colors and sharpen their motor skills. It's easy to learn; so many toys which are supposed to be geared toward the younger set seem so advanced. This is right on the money for both age groups. They love making the shapes come out via the candy cane:-) This one is a keeper; no batteries and no noise:-)

  • Nice, but quickly outgrown

My 3 year old twins got this for their birthday. They really like shooting out the pieces and holding the pieces, they have a nice feel. The game itself is much too easy for them, they know these shapes well. I'm afraid the pieces will be be lost or they will quickly outgrow this game. It definitely fits their attention span though, one game lasts about 5 minutes the speed they play it at.

  • Fun, even for little guys!

My son got this for his 3rd birthday and immediately fell in love with it. I have my two boys and two girls that I watch and they can sit down, all 4 of them and play together. They are 16 months to 3 years old and even the 16 month old loves to pull the handle and play with the shapes. This is the first game that I have found that actually keeps their attention and can be played in a peaceful manner. I couldn't believe it. The one thing I do not like is that there is no easy way to store it. It sits on our book case, but it would be nice if it came in a box that could be stored in a closet. The pieces fit in the chimney, and the gingerbread people fit in the back of the house but everything would spill out if you had to put it away. Other than that, and the relatively high price (from what I have been told) I think this is a great game and would be great on every toddler's wish list.

  • Great DURABLE Game for Little Ones

    By A7R58D6Y5OSPO on 2007-12-26
My 4 year old daughter got this for Christmas. There are four gingerbread men cardboard cards (heavyweight cardboard too). Each gingerbread has a different combination of four shape indentations (One might have an oval, octagon, rectangle and star, while another might have a flower, star, triangle, and rectangle). The game comes with a bunch of plastic (thick - heavy duty) shapes. Basically, you put all the shapes in the chimney of the castle. In turn, each player pulls the candy cane lever. When you pull the lever, a shape comes out. If it matches a shape that your gingerbread needs, you put it on your gingerbread. If it doesn't, you put it back in the chimney. Either way, it's the next player's turn. The first player to get all the shapes they need wins. This is very good if your child is learning colors and shapes. My daughter already knows colors, shapes, etc., but she has a hard time losing. This is great for that too. The game goes fast and winning/losing is very cut and dry. We can play several times in a row. Some times she wins, some times she loses.

  • Fun for the little ones
    By AZQJ85BTRUQV2 on 2007-12-26
My 3 yr old is too young to understand most board games so I thought we'd give this one a try. It's great! It comes with 4 boards (gingerbread men) that each have 4 different shapes on them. (Each one is different, like BINGO boards.) You put the little plastic shapes inside the castle turret and each player gets a chance to pull the candy cane lever to release a shape from the castle. If it fits on your board, you use it to fill in one spot on your board. Whoever gets their spots filled up first wins.

It's fun for the kids and adults too as well as a great learning tool that teaches shapes and colors that is very understandable for littler ones. We love it!

The plastic pieces seem very durable but I hope we don't lose them. There is no place to store them other than the castle turret. But if the castle gets tipped over, they go flying. That's one thing I think could have been better designed.

I got this for my daughter's 3rd birthday. It is a game she can easily play. She does know her colors and shapes but more than anything this helps her learn how to share and how to take turns. This keeps her attention very well and she wants to play it over and over. She loves choosing which gingerbread man she is going to be. A huge bonus for me is that it makes no noise so you can actually have a conversation while playing. She caught onto the game right away, it didn't take long at all for her to figure out how you play. This is also a very sturdy game, not flimsy and easy to break! This is a keeper!!!

  • Unexpected Xmas day hit!
    By A37D2TGTIXRV2N on 2007-12-27
My daughters (3 and 6) played this for hours on Christmas day, forsaking their singing Dora doll, Barbie accessories, Wii games and Cartoon Network for this simple yet engaging little game. Two days later and they still want to play whenever they have a spare 5 minutes. No reading required, no skill except matching shapes to cards, and games are fast-paced and brief, unlike the Candy Land board game which takes too long and has all those cards to clean up. I love how it has no batteries, no noise and the whole thing stores away compactly. A+!

  • Christmas gift...
    By A34ELPT7KA35MQ on 2007-11-20
I got this for my daughter for Christmas, it looks like good fun, and it will teach colors and shapes, fun for all!!!!!

  • Great for short attention span!
    By A21VOILKKUW3HB on 2007-11-23
My child received this toy for her 3rd birthday and absolutlely loves it. The game teaches colors, shapes, and taking turns in a very fun way. Because 2-4 year olds have very short attention spans, this game is perfect as a game usually lasts only 2-5 minutes. The kids (my older ones included) love moving the candy cane back and forth to release the next shape. Highly recommend!!!

  • Perfect First Game!
    By A3GZ11ED4FD9JU on 2007-12-12
We got this game for our 2 year old son, and it's a big hit! We've had it for a few months now, and he still loves to play. It's the perfect first game! I love that we can all sit down as a family and play a game, even when our son is at such a young age. My only complaint is that the board pieces are pealing apart - nothing that a little glue couldn't fix though :)

  • Cute Game
    By A2L6G6CCWWP5IV on 2007-12-26
This is a really cute game for kids approx. toddler through age 6. At first I thought it was going to be electronic, and I was glad to find out that it doesn't make noise and doesn't use batteries. Whoopee! Kids of all different ages like to play this game, including my 2 year old nephew and 5 year old niece. I even let the one year old play with the pieces, sorting them, putting them in the castle, and shooting the pieces out. It is a great game for learning shapes, colors, and cause and effect for younger kids. The only thing I worry about is that it might be priming them for an addiction to slot machines! haha. You'd know what I mean if you heard the sound it makes and saw them pull the lever. :) I would recommend this game.

  • Great First Game
    By A37M3TQKXXBC96 on 2007-12-28
We just got this game for our nearly 3 year old daughter for Christmas. She loves it!!! We have already played it at least 30 times in two days. It is a great first game. It only takes 5 minutes or less to play a game, which is great for little attention spans. It is a wonderful game for children to learn about taking turns and basic "game etiquette". She already knows the basic shapes and colors of the game, so I don't know that it is highly educational in that regard, but she is learning to share and take turns and that is worth a lot.

So far the game seems very sturdy. The platic game pieces are very thick and durable plastic and the gingerbread cookie playing cards are very sturday as well.

My daughter loves to pull the candy cane lever and see the game pieces come shooting out. I imagine that it will be a game that she will grow out of fairly soon, as it is very basic. However, I think that if she does it will have served it's purpose and it will have taught her some important skills to help her move on to more complicated games.

  • Very sweet toy
    By A2D2IFJ93HROIK on 2007-12-28
My 3 and a half year old saw this game and wanted it, she loves it! She alredy knows her shapes and colors so the purpose of this game is kind of lost on her but she has made up new games with it. I would highly recommend it.

  • fun for toddler!!
    By AYALR9Y6DO3KJ on 2007-12-28
My Daughter is two and a half..and wanted the other candy land so bad...her cousins have it but she is way to young to 'get it' This version is so simple to understand and really teaches her about sharing...taking turns...shapes...and colors...she had TONs of fun! I have to admit..even i had a good time watching her... very easy! -CR

  • Great beginner game
    By A294UXMPU8A984 on 2007-12-14
I was looking for a game that my son could play, he just turned three. This is defiantly an easy game that he gets the hang of. He even enjoys laying all the gingerbread men out and playing by himself. I plan to bring this with with I go and nanny with my son. I'm sure what the other two will think of this game as they are a little older and this is a very easy game. We shall see. I'm looking forward to their reaction!

  • fun game for toddlers
    By AWSG5DCUAV744 on 2007-12-26
My 4-year-old son has really just gotten into playing games. He got this game for Christmas and I like it compared to other games on the market for toddlers. The game goes quickly, which fits my son's attention span. I do like how all of the shape pieces fit into the chimney and the gingerbread man (and woman) boards fit into the back of the game. The shapes are also chunky and fun to hold. It is a small game, so it does not take up a lot of space and can easily fit on a shelf or in a cabinet. I think it is a decent game for the price I paid at Amazon. My son is happy with it and I like playing it with him.

  • My twins love this game!
    By A1XGGEOL2MYPMZ on 2007-12-27
I bought this game a few months before Christmas for my now 2 1/2 year old boy/girl twins. They love it! Like other moms I saw it advertise on TV. The kids love making the castle shoot out the colored shapes and they try and name them. They even play with there 4 1/2 year old cousin. Great product!

  • waste of money for our family
    By A35BA5NU0LIA1D on 2007-12-28
I bought this product based on a review in a parent's mag. It is recommended for children 3 and over. My daughter found it boring in just a few minutes. If you are trying to teach shapes or colors, than it is appropriate. However, if your 3 year old child knows his/her colors and shapes, it is a waste of money. Perhaps it could be marketed for a younger audience.

  • Candyland Castle Review
    By A16172N72K7SOE on 2008-01-14
This toy is somewhat cheaply made. It can be difficult to operate, even for an adult. There is not a lot of educational value, other than listening and following directions, and taking turns (not that those are unimportant). I feel that we could have better spent the money to purchase this game, on a different toy.

  • Great introduction to Board Games
    By AFG4HIHMX312C on 2008-08-21
I bought this for my daughter when she was 23 months old. She was in the process of learning her colors and shapes and I thought this game would help. She absolutely loved the game itself. Pulling the little lever to make the pieces shoot out was so much fun for her. At 23 months, she was too young to really play the game as it was intended but we used it as a learning tool and I would help her match the pieced to the boards and have her say the shapes and colors.
As she has gotten older I've started to teach her how to actually play the game according to the rules and it has really helped to teach her how to 'take turns'.

The castle itself is very durable. When I first opened the box I took one look at the lever and thought that it would be broken in no time. But it has withstood a lot of pummeling from my daughter and her young
    cousins.

As for STORAGE: All the shape pieces fit into the castle and there is a place in the back of the castle for the gingerbread men boards to sit in. It stores very well this way.
Another cool feature is that the instructions are printed on the back of the gingerbread men so you can't lose them or have to keep up with an instruction sheet.

The only thing I didn't like about the game is that one of the shapes is kind of a 'club' shape that is difficult to describe to a toddler. I wish that Hasbro had just stuck to standard shapes for the game pieces.

Overall, I am really happy with this purchase and would definitely reccomend it for the toddler/pre-school crowd

  • Good Game
    By A2QKF63YHBGE9C on 2008-10-09
My son turned 4 the month that we received this game. It was very easy for him (he knows his shapes and colors) and I think he is too advanced for the game to be of any educational value to him. It reinforces "waiting your turn" and being a good loser (he's an even worse winner, yelling "I won, I won"). He seems to win more than he loses. He loves the game, but I think it would be better for younger kids who do not know their shapes and colors.

  • Fun Preschool aged game
    By A306CBPJVY5EOU on 2007-12-29
Great game for the 4 and under. If your child already has a grasp of shapes and colors, it will be less interesting, but for the 2 & 3 year olds (with supervision due to the choking hazard) I think it would be perfect. My 4 1/2 year old was bored right away, but our nephew (4) and niece (2 1/2) love it.
My 9 year old son, of course, turned it into a "bomb" launcher. Go figure!
Cute game, simple rules, quick to learn and then the kids are ready to play.

  • A Wonderful Game
    By AJM8UJ66W6YT on 2007-12-29
I bought this game for my 2 1/2 year old grandson. He loves to play and will play it over and over again. It is educational in that it helps children to learn various shapes. Pulling the handle to have the shape pop out is great fun for a 2 1/2 year old!

  • Fun Game For The Kids!
    By A1XR56GETFFW5S on 2007-12-30
This is a very fun game. The kids love it. What else can I say. Children love their play not because it's easy but because it's hard. They are striving every hour of every day to graduate to more difficult achievements and to do what older children and grown-ups do.

  • Lots of fun!
    By A3B0XWUU588B4R on 2007-12-31
My 3 year old got this from Santa. It's lots of fun for anyone to play. Perfect for her age! it's cute and durable as well. There are alot of pieces with no where to really put them as it doesn't have a reuseable box. Money well spent!

  • Good buy
    By A1C2W7XPF2G9W4 on 2007-12-31
Every little girl loves Candyland, so I was excited to find this castle game for my niece. She really loved it. The price was great.

  • Easy for "pre" preschoolers
    By A1ER12JF2WKCMO on 2008-01-01
My daughter is two and loves to play games, however, most are too old for her to play properly. This game is perfect, she can easily match the shapes/colors and also learns the concept of taking turns. In addition, the game plays quickly (a bonus for a 2-year-old attention span) and cleans up easily (all parts fit within the "castle")

  • 3D Candy Land
    By A32EQVHHI9GVRW on 2008-01-01
My 3 year old loves this toy. It's good for ID'ing shapes and colors, as well as taking turns. The pieces can all be stored inside the game itself so it's easy to store.

  • great game
    By A2TVL6TWG2HV2Y on 2008-01-01
Love this game! Easy to do, no setup, simple game! Good fun! I've given it twice as a gift and it was a big hit both times. It's nothing like the original and probably should be called something else.
