  • They're not kidding!

    By A7DCDBOU5TWOW on 2007-07-12
The company that manufactures this light is called Mighty Bright, and for good reason! The lamp gives off more than enough light to read by in a pitch black room. It has two brightness settings, one with both LEDs and another with just one. The LEDs in this lamp are so bright, that only one is really needed, having two is an added bonus. I'm not using a power adatpter, I'm running off of 3 AAA batteries. LEDs use such a small amount of power, those batteries should last me a year or more. Overall I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of this light. With such a fair price I didn't think it would really hold up, but I'm definitely going to recommend it.

  • AWESOME!!!!

I have purchased MANY book lights in the past, but never have I owned one that was actually bright enough to read by. I usually keep moving the light around and around and around so I can see the page . I ordered the power adapter but it hasn't arrived yet, I am using 3 AAA batteries and this is a awesome light. It has 2 lights in the head you can use both or just one, the light spreads across both pages of a paperback in either mode one light or two, I haven't tried a hard cover book yet, but I really don't think this light will have any problem at all. Very Very Bright. I definitely recommend this light .

  • When the lights go out, there's Mighty Bright!

Know what is as essential in my luggage as prescriptions or deodorant? My book light! A book light is essential to a reader, or at least to me.

Whenever I go overnight or longer, my book light is packed. I don't sleep at night as most people, especially in "strange" places. So I rummage, actually, no, I don't rummage, I always know where exactly where I packed my book and my light, and slip off to the bathroom, get comfy on the bathmat and read until I get sleepy. I don't need to turn on any lights because my book light points the way. In another place I can go to the living room and snuggle in a chair, clip on the light, and read away. Last time I stayed at my mother's I tip-toed into her walk-in closet, found comforters, and read away. She's used to me.

But the best reason for a book light is when the lights go out as they are wont to do during thunderstorms or ice storms. My book light and a flash light are right in the drawer next to my bed. There are two other flashlights stashed around the house. Find one, light candles, go to bed, and read. I used to fret and fume over the electricity snapping out. No more.

In case the LED lights go out, I bought two replacement bulbs. I also own three other styles of book lights, but Xtra Flex 2 LED Book Light,Silver is the best of all. It has double LED lights, but only one is necessary. I need bright light to really see to read and this product meets my demand. Plus, the graceful curve of the neck and the sophistication of the silver make this an attractive product. It also comes in lime, purple, and bold blue. Take the clip at the bottom, snap it onto the back cover of the book and several pages for stability, click on the light, once or twice for your brightness, and enter that other world.

  • Excellent book light

    By A3NEAETOSXDBOM on 2008-02-13
I have used this booklight to read both regular paperbacks as well as the Amazon Kindle in a pitch black room while lying in bed. It works great. As another reviewer has noted, although there are two LEDs, one is more than sufficient for reading.

The light has a clip that securely and conveniently attaches to a paperback or the Kindle cover, and the gooseneck on the light can easily be adjusted to whatever angle you like. I get just the right coverage on the page, and unlike an incandescent light, this light is easy on the eyes.

The off/on button is conveniently located and by default starts with two LEDs, but with another quick click you can select just one, and then turn it off with another click. It's all very simple.

I have used several booklights in the past, and must say that for ease of use and quality of the light, this is the best one by far.

  • Best book light I ever bought

    By A1OOFKQNPII5FY on 2008-01-20
I'd recommend this to anyone who works late at home and doesn't have a separate office. The coverage is great. I use it to illuminate my laptop keyboard as I'm resting on the couch or in bed and it doesn't disturb my husband. It's great for books, hardcover and soft, as well as typed manuscript pages. I'm an editor and do a lot of late night reading.

I've gone through a lot of book lights, some too dim, some with not enough coverage, or the batteries or bulbs die quickly. I've only had this for a short period of time but would buy another in a heartbeat.

  • The best book light
    By A2ON05K3L9TF5F on 2008-01-29
I got two booklights for Christmas, and I prefer this one to the Great Point one. I like the feature on this one that allows me to select brightness (2 LEDs on vs. 1 LED on). The other light I got is all or nothing (2 LEDs or it's off). I use the light to read in my 3-yr-old's bedroom while she is falling asleep, so I'd rather deal with a light that is not quite as bright so that it disturbs her less, and this one gives me that option. As long as I am pointing it at the area of the page that I'm reading, the 1 LED gives me plenty of light. And the flexibility of this light is incredible, making it easy to adjust which part of the page I'm pointing it towards. The great point light also has a flexible neck, but it is not as flexible as this one is.

  • Makes falling asleep while your partner reads easy!
    By A3SF6AYFDWQ6M1 on 2008-04-21
Before purchasing the Mighty Bright book light in silver, I wanted to know if it could clip to paperback books, which, after reading the reviews, I found that, yes, it can clip to paperback books. However, the main thing I wanted to know was if someone could use it without disturbing his or her partner trying to fall asleep. Based on the reviews, I found that no one had any complaints of this kind. This was a first-time purchase of a product like this for me. I bought it for my boyfriend because he likes to read in bed at night, while I'm trying to go to sleep. I'm so impressed with this product! He used it for the first time last night, and I was able to fall asleep without even knowing it was on or when he turned it off. For anyone who says they have to read in bed because they can't read in the room with distractions like the TV, computer, or video games, and YOU want some restful sleep, buy Mighty Bright!

  • KINDLE: Great when used at an angle to avoid "spotlighting".
    By A34BFOXOM87TCY on 2008-06-06
If you plan to use this light (or any light, very likely) with the Kindle, you will find a problem with "spotlighting." The Kindle's screen is just reflective enough to cause a bright splash across the page when a book light is pointed directly at it. It's impossible to read through the brightness. This book light has a goose neck, so it can be used successfully if you angle it a bit, so that only the edge of the circle of light illuminates the page. The drawback is that the light is no longer as local, and may disturb those around you if you are using the light to read at night.

  • Bought 2 and love them both
    By A9D62L2RKYXE2 on 2008-04-14
I bought one of these for my wife and one for my daughter and they have been huge hits. I have tried several other book lights and this is probably the best overall one I've found. I only wish it was slightly brighter since after my lasik my night vision is not as good as it used to be and more reading light is required. My wife and daughter both think the Xtra Flex puts out plenty of light.

If they ever come out with a 4 LED verion of the Xtra Flex however I'll be on it like white on rice.

  • best reading light
    By A1P75ZS85K1YUH on 2008-06-23
I have had many book lights and this one is by far the best. Sharper Image has a good one, with a leather case and its stylish and pretty bright. But it lost its power over the years, and still it never was as bright as this one by Mighty Bright. I had another from Barnes and Noble with 3 bulbs and was also quite bright. But it lost power easily and now doesn't work at all. That's is why I purchased this book light and it is great! Very bright and light weight, flexible so that you can have the light hit whatever amount of the page or pages you choose, and two different levels of brightness to choose from.

  • Best book light for inveterate night owl readers
    By A1PUXF0PH4ZKA3 on 2008-03-21
The XtraFlex2 LED book light is light years (no pun intended) better than the old itty-bitty-type lights that used incandescent bulbs.

The XtraFlex2 gets great battery life, unlike the the itty-bittys, which I found went through batteries like crazy. Of course, the LED "bulbs" don't burn out like the itty-bitty blubs (and the XtraFlex2 doesn't heat up from its bulbs, either). The XtraFlex2's integrated battery pack is also great; no getting tangled up in a cord while you're in bed.

I stumbled on the XtraFlex2 at my local Borders. They had a bunch of them in a display when the final Harry Potter book was published (presumably figuring that a lot of kids, little and big, were going to be doing a lot of reading in bed...). The leftovers were sold at half price, a real bargain. I bought one, tried it out, loved it, and went back to buy several more for use as gifts (and spares).

Available in colors other than silver; Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Light - Black, Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Book/Craft/Clip-On Light, Green, Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Book/Craft/Clip-On Light, Pink, Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Dual Book/Craft/Clip-On Light, Purple, and Xtra Flex 2 LED Book Light, Blue.

  • I thought it would be brighter....
    By A1VBUQQJZT3VBX on 2008-08-02
After reading other reviews I was excited to have make this purchase. I was disappointed - I've had brighter pen lights!

  • Great light, great options
    By A3KOMQHB2T8P49 on 2008-08-05
I had to replace an LED book light that one of my kids had broken. Read reviews of various offerings and chose this one. The light is excellent. One bulb is definitely enough; I think using both would cause planes to land in my driveway. Makes me wonder what the reviewer who said he had brighter pen lights is using for power. I wanted a light that used non-button batteries, and this works with my rechargeable AAAs. One nice feature I didn't see mentioned is the optional AC adapter; a nice touch. My only negative would be the design of the clip itself: Its curve is a little bulky, but it doesn't seem to be more than a minor issue. This feels like a really smart purchase.

  • I love this reading light for my Kindle!
    By A2QNQLR2P895Y1 on 2008-08-05
I purchased this with my new Kindle and love it ... the silver color goes great with the gray inside cover of the Kindle, the clip is perfect, the movable neck is superb, and the light is outstanding. If you are getting a Kindle and like to read in bed, this light wants to be yours!

(I also got one for my husband and it works very well with paperbacks as well ... it's amazingly light-weight, the clip is secure, the neck bends easily & stays were you want it, and the light is NO GLARE somehow ... we actually like these new night lights better for reading than the headboard light :)

  • A poor light...mighty bright, but mighty poor..
    By A1NTAOYE4405Z3 on 2008-10-01
Less than a year old and it constantly blinks on and off due to loose connection, Do not recommend at all.... May be mighty bright, but mighty poor quality.

  • This little light is awsome
    By A3NFJXVAS8ZFV1 on 2008-05-23
They should've invented these things a long time ago! No need to use the crappy light in an airplane, this light is much more convenient!

  • Cant hold its head up high
    By A3BF6STWM7QN4V on 2008-10-16
The light it gives off is good, the clip is good.

UNFORTUNATLEY the neck is SO WEAK, it flops down if you are using it for long periods, or you move to quickly, or are using it in a plane/car and have a slight jolt. It's so much of a nuisance I gave it away and am looking for another type.

DISAPOINTING single flaw, but a MAJOR flaw.

  • At Last, One I like
    By A3A69SXYLBIDJ1 on 2008-06-16
This is the best reading light I have bought and I have bought at least five. Most are not bright enough, this is. I use it so my reading will not disturb my wife. I don't need it to be super small and mostof the time I have it connected to an ac outlet so battery use is not an issue. When I have used the batteries they have given good service.

Seems light most manufacturers do not understand their market and think they have to be sub-miniature to appeal. That would be fine if they had enough light. This one works for me...would I change anything? Yes butnot woth mentioning here.

  • Excellent
    By ACSOVX92KVMIR on 2008-09-18
This is an excellent reading light. I have tried so many others that do not even compare. I recommend this light to anyone who is looking..

  • Good quality, bright, bluish - will use
    By ADLVFFE4VBT8 on 2008-10-11
I received one of these (the black version) a few days ago and my verdict is that I am likely to use it when reading books at night.

    Brief overview:

    - 2 super-bright LED's with lenses
    - light has more blue and very little red, or yellow (think of a steady neon light)
    - uses 3 (THREE) AAA batteries
    - 40-hour battery life (claim is made on the package, not verified by me)
    - power supply not provided
    - relatively long, flexible arm
    - can turn on 1 or 2 LED's
    - solid build
    - a bit heavy but had no problem using it with a paperback

I will definitely use this lamp when reading books at night. I doubt I will ever use it as a flashlight or a work light unless I had no other choice.
