Charming Playhouse Features Delightfully Pretty Touches
The Cottage consists of two open halves, each measuring approximately 37-by-18-by-42 inches (LxDxH), with the collapsible chimney adding about eight inches to the height. It's constructed with two lightweight plastic and metal frames, snugly fitted with a nylon exterior that meets the flammability requirements of CPAI-84. The included toy stove has plastic and fiberboard construction.

All of the components require adult assembly. It took us about 1-1/2 hours to complete the job, and although no tools are required, you'll need a little bit of muscle to push the metal posts into the plastic connector pieces to construct the frames. After completing the frames, you next slide the nylon exterior on, which, as we discovered, requires a extra dose of patience. Since it's a tight fit, be careful! The fabric can snag and tear on the metal frame if you pull too hard or too quickly.

Yes, it takes some time and effort to assemble -- but it's well worth it. The Rose Petal Cottage is completely charming. Its cheerily printed exterior sports pretty pastel colors and old-fashioned roses, shutters and shingled-roof details, and a pink, vented chimney. Lace edges the roof and real curtains adorn the mesh-covered windows. The blue, Dutch-style door has a working mail slot, and it secures with two magnetic clasps.

We were delighted with the Cottage's many configuration possibilities: set the two sides apart from each other in any position that's convenient for your home, and your child can play in an "open" space. Push them together in a closed, "one-room" configuration, and your child can enter and exit through the door. Vents in the chimney and the mesh-covered windows ensure good air circulation. She will love having a private place to play and imagine. Two small children can fit easily inside, with room for other toys. And when your child is finished playing, you can slide one side into the other for space-saving storage.

Powered by Imagination
These days it's not easy to find toys that don't blink and beep, which is why we find the Rose Petal Cottage so refreshing. It simply provides beautiful props to fuel your child's creativity without limiting her, leaving play completely up to her imagination -- no batteries required.

The Cottage benefits parents, too: it's less expensive than other child-size houses on the market, plus it stores compactly and, with its lightweight build, is a cinch to move around. However, because of its tent-like build, leaning against the back from the inside will cause it to wobble and even tip completely over if your child is not careful. We suggest making sure the house is set against a wall or sturdy backing during play.

The Cottage comes with a stove, and additional toy appliances, furniture, and other accessories are available separate purchase should your child desire to furnish her cottage further.

  • This is the BEST!!!

    By A3R7WABECCAWNH on 2007-10-05
We bought this for my 3 year old girl's birthday. It was SO easy to set up...only took 1/2 hour for all pieces, including the oven and sink! The attention to detail in this product was amazing and the quality was far better than I expected. She absolutely loves it. The best part...when she is tired of it for a while, take it apart and store it under the bed or in the attic. I can't wait for more pieces to come out. All the parts nest inside each other for space saving too. I HIGHLY recommend this item!!!!

  • Two year old loves it!

    By A1807KDH7WVH76 on 2007-11-02
My daughter received this for her 2nd birthday-she loves it! It is larger than we thought it would be in size. It takes up a good portion of our living room, but my daughter has too much fun with the cottage to worry about the space it takes up. The house pieces nest together nicely, but I wish that it would be a little easier to take the whole thing down if we wanted to-we just don't want to put the poles together again. Overall, the whole cottage goes up very easily and it is a blast to play with.

  • Great gift idea!

    By A2CLZSWAODVVQ0 on 2007-11-19
We just bought this for my daughter's third birthday and wow, did we score big time with this gift! She has barely left the house, even wanting to sleep in it last night. As another reviewer said, the attention to detail is amazing, it's high quality, and was so easy to put together. I especially love how easy it is to clean up and move out of the way.

I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone with little girls!

  • great fun

My 2 year old LOVES this item...We bought the accesories and now she has the entire set up.

  • Very cute, my daughter and son both have fun w/it

    By AQTWYJN5UIAQ8 on 2007-11-19
My family bought this as an early xmas gift for my 1-1/2 yr old daughter and she loves it and the little stove! My 3yr old son has had fun with it also. It's their little "fort" and he likes to run his matchbox cars off the roof - ha ha. So far it seems fairly sturdy and it was easy to put together. I only wish more of the accessories were more widely available. Hasbro has a lot more accessories than you see in stores on their website but all are out of stock right now. :( I will update this review if I find anything wrong with it though.

I purchased the Rose Petal cottage for my 6yrold... she loves it, although I thought she'd be a little old for it... able to put it together without TOO much difficulty, w/no help from Dad, so it isn't that hard! She wants to sleep in it at night and is looking foward to getting accessories for Christmas. I also got it at a great price, which was a plus... quick delivery as well... all in all a very good product!

  • Beautiful, functional, well-built ROSE DREAM
    By AQ45465ICV4A7 on 2007-12-27
This is one of the best purchases we have made for our now 4-year-old daughter. We purchased this for her as a Christmas gift as she had seen it repeatedly on TV and in magazines and had fallen in love with it. I am surprised that more people didn't have trouble with the assembly, but maybe that was due to the fact that we were swamped with putting thigs together at 2 AM on Christmas Eve! I got the frame set up without a glitch, but for some reason, I had lots of trouble getting the material onto the frame. As it turned out, I had the framed turned backwards, and I could've looked at the pictures in the directions a bit more carefully.

The final product is a masterpiece! This toy leaves lots of room for creative play, and even my 3-year-old son has really enjoyed playing in the cottage. My daughter has insisted on sleeping in it, which we allowed, but only with the 2 pieces open a bit. On Christmas morning, she ran right to it, and after a bit emerged only to grab her other presents and take them to the cottage to open! The cottage is well-constructed and is not the usual tacky mess cluttering up our living room. My daughter LOVES that she can completely enclose herself in the cottage and play. I love the warm pastels and attention to detail.

A word of caution: I bought the washer and the sink, and the cottage comes with the stove. I know that there are TONS of other accessories that you can purchase with this set, but there is only so much room inside the cottage. With these 3 pieces, one side of the cottage is pretty much taken up. I would suggest choosing pieces carefully; chances are, your daughter will be more thrilled with the cottage itself than the accessories. In fact, more than once, I have seen my daughter take out all of the accessories to give herself more play room inside. I would ALSO suggest doing some comparison shopping on the accessories as Amazon's prices have drastically risen since I purchased mine.

This is a fantastic purchase! You will not be disappointed with this set!

  • She loves it!
    By A2VO3QGD02CMFE on 2008-01-18
We got this for my 6 year old daughter for Christmas. I was worried about the cottage being too small at first because the children in the photos seem around 3-5 years old. Once we got everything put together my daughter loved it. She is playing in it everyday! She is able to move around in it fine there is plenty of room especially if you open it up, but she like the coziness of having it set up like a small house. It was a little frustrating at times when we put it together, but it was well worth all the effort in the end. Plus it seems like it is constructed to last.

  • Good Assembly Video on Hasbro website.

This was the only Shristmas toy that had both daughters playing quietly, so I love it. There's a good assembly video on the Hasbro website below.

  • Overall a fun play house
    By AGZJT1G69NGJO on 2008-01-16
My Daughter, 2 1/2, and Son, 5, love playing with this set. I like the way one piece sits inside the other when playtime is finished. I have even set it up with the open areas facing each other to make a square house.

I do question the durablity of the plastic connectors. My kids are very active and move the pieces around, sometimes not making sure that the frame is flat on the floor, i.e. a toy get between the frame and floor. The connectors bend if they or the frame is stepped upon and are difficult to straighten. They are also starting to show signs of splitting where the frame pieces meet the connectors.

Great product if your child or childern leaves it where you place it. Provides hours of imaginative play.

    Edited - 4/29/08

It is now near the end of April and the play house is gone. Several seams came apart, a couple of holes from wear, 5 connectors completely split, several supports were bent beyond fixing. THIS IS NOT an item for children who want to move it around. Sadly it did not last for very long. I will not be replacing it.

  • Just o.k.
    By A173GCKLOYCQPL on 2008-01-18
This product is just o.k.. I thought it would be bigger and heavier. I bought it for my 2 1/2 year old.
It's pretty flimsy and can be easily pushed over (by a 11 month old who is holding on to every thing to walk).
The stove that came with it is tiny as you can see in the picture the kids have to be on their knees to use it.
I don't mean to sound so negitive and am sorry if I have discouraged you but it's just not a favorite. It is really cute though.

  • Great Cottage
    By AD2W3ZYVIEUF1 on 2007-12-03
We bought the rose petal cottage and accessories for my daughter who just turned 2. (I know that it is for children 3 and up) but she absolutely loves it. My son is 3 and plays with it as well. The furniture is very easy to assemble...the house wasn't too difficult to assemble either. I would recommend this for any little girl ages 2 and up.

    By A2W3RK7727NLBG on 2007-12-26
This is the perfect size for an 18 month old child. She loved the door, in and out. Be sure you have room to store it;it is consideable size. Also, if you do not have the exact rods as directed, stop. Half of the cottage tore as my husband and son-in-law put it together.

  • A great house for a little girl!!
    By AHP5BP2PTZXUG on 2008-04-17
This is a great toy investment. We like to keep the number of toys limited in our house so we can keep down the clutter. This one has passed the "keep" test! Our daughter spends an hour or more a day going in and out of it caring for her dolls, reading books, or cooking. She has taken ownership of this space and it's a wonderful get-a-way for her. She loves the easy to use door and the peek through windows. She is almost two and it's by far her favorite play item in the play room. Don't wait until 3 to get this house. Worth every penny. It seems plenty durable for her use.

  • beautiful but tough to put together
    By A2YUO4H6TKXZY on 2007-12-27
My 2 yr old got this for x-mas and the assembly was difficult, I had to watch the video on the website which was very helpful because the directions were confusing. It took a while to get it together but once we got going it was easy. The good news is that my daughter loves it!

  • She loves it
    By A3BH7K6R0TLLTC on 2008-01-08
Bought this for my daughter for Christmas. This is most definitly one of her favorite toys. She plays in this cottage daily. Was fairly simple to put together. Only complaint is price of accessories for the cottage.

  • A little girl's delight
    By A3ADZUI3JIFQT3 on 2008-01-08
My granddaughter, almost 3 years old, received this for Christmas. She literally squealed with delight- a sight I'll never forget. Putting it together took between an hour and an hour and a half. It was not difficult. The directions were good and the parts well-labeled. The fabric is adorable. We did have to be very careful when sliding the frame into the fabric shell that we did not let it poke through in certain places and we were successful. Half of the cottage fits nicely into the other half when it's time for putting away toys, a good feature if a child has a small room. The stove that came with it was easy to put together and took only a few minutes.

I would have LOVED this as a child!

  • Adorable cottage for 2 or 3
    By AVSRB6YL1OQFM on 2008-01-08
The Cottage was a little difficult to set up and takes a bit of room. However it is hours of fun for my two year old daughter which is who we bought it for and then my 6 yr and 8 yr old spend a lot of pretend time playing with their sister. She loves the company. If you don't have a big room or a decent size house this item might just be too big but it works for us.

  • Wonderful!
    By A30B61JS0WMPBI on 2008-01-12
I am so glad I didnt listen to the bad reviews on this. This toy is great! As far as educational goes - no but my kids love it! I have a 4 1/2 year old and an 18 month old and they play for hours. They use it as a fort, a house, an office, school. It's fun and different and very durable!

  • Adorable!
    By A1E3YU1K29IODY on 2008-02-27
I bought this for my daughter who is 14 months old. And the reason I did is because she has shown an interest in being in her own little space. (she liked to go up under her jumper where it was semi-closed in.) After my husband and I put it together (45 minutes tops.. including stove & dining set) my daughter was so excited about playing in it! She loved that we could look thru the windows in at her and open the door! You could even look thru the chimney (has a mesh lining to keep stuff from falling in).
I think overall that the quality is very good and durable. Although you cannot use it for rough play. It has a metal frame with plastic connecters (no tools needed for assembly). From the picture I thought the house was plastic, but its actually fabric that completely surrounds the frame. The frame fits inside the fabric and is zipped in.
The house is light-weight and can be knocked over or easily moved aside. The 2-part door closes shut with magnets that hold it closed. Inside the fabric of the door is cardboard to make it stiff. My daughter didn't realize how flimsy it was and fell right thru it.
The stove is adorable and simple.
The set I bought (off of an auction website) came with the table and chairs dining set. I couldn't tell from the picture, but they are inflatable. I thought they were stuffed. The table cloth is not attached.
Educational value: For playing house. Pretending to cook and clean. Lots of imagination value!
The extra accessories are expensive. But the quality is good.

  • adorable little cottage
    By AQ2WUP0XFIX4M on 2008-04-23
We just received this yesterday, I put it together immediately and I haven't been able to get my kids out of it since! They love it! My 17 month old daughter loves playing in it, and my five year old calls it his "fort with flowers on it". It was fairly easy to put together, only took me half an hour or so, and that's with three kids hanging on me! The only thing I would change about it is to find a way to attach the two pieces together. When my daughter sits up against the wall and leans back, it tips over with her in it. It would be a little more stable if they attached some how, but it is still a wonderful, adorable little playhouse. Now we just need to get all of the accessories!

  • A Really Well-Thought Out Toy - Great Job Hasbro !!!
    By A32D3SIQGJX2SV on 2007-12-22
I got this for my 3 year old and "Santa" delivered it a few days early as we will be out-of-town for 10 days - "WOW". It exceeded my expectations which is a rare thing in this day and age! It was easy to set-up (I didn't hear any cussing from hubby) and the oven is awesome - it has working knobs and a door that opens and shut - perfect for baking those Rose Petal Muffins in ! The detailing is amazing -e.g. the curtains open and shut. My three year-old LOVES IT - it's like her private clubhouse. Even my 6 year-old daughter loves it. I can't wait to buy the sink and add to this Great Collection ! It's also just beautiful to look at - I don't mind it being out. And the fact that it can be put away so easily - Great Job Hasbro - you really have a Great Product on your hands !!!

  • Nightmare to put together
    By AD37N1YM8SUUS on 2007-12-25
This may be a fun product ONCE it is put together, but putting the cottage together is a nightmare, and took both me and my husband forever.
The cover was not going over the frame how the instructions showed.

The rest of the stuff was easy, but the cottage was a nightmare.

Hopefully once it is put together the kids will enjoy playing with it.

  • We LOVE this cottage!
    By A2C7J19WQQSZ8M on 2007-12-26
Santa brought my four and a half year old daughter this for Christmas, along with the nursery set, washer, and muffin set. She couldn't wait for me to put it together so she could play! The cottage itself is very well made, and whoever came up with the idea of color coding everything, I LOVE YOU!!!!!! All the poles are color coded, white or pink, and the connectors are also different colors for the specific funcion. Even the seams on the inside of the fabric where you place the frame is coded! I was expecting to spend a great amount of time on this, but it was together and she was playing in it within an hour! She even helped me put it together! I love the windows and chimney, and the doors have these little "latches" printed on the material with magnets inside so they really close! The curtains are a nice touch, and so far we haven't found anything we don't like about it, and she's a very picky four year old!

  • Exceeded Expectations
    By A7R58D6Y5OSPO on 2007-12-26
We bought this for my 4 1/2 year old daughter. At the top of her Christmas list was "a house" for her beloved stuffed bear. With Grandma and Uncle chipping in, she got the cradle and changing station, the sink, and the washing machine, in addition to the oven that it comes with. She also got a "Next Generation" miniature table/chair and tea set for her bear that goes perfectly with this. She LOVES this cottage. My two year old neice can stand in the cottage, but my daughter has to duck down. I'm not complaining about that though, because if you see the advertising for it, most of the kids are either squatting or kneeling when they play with it, so we figured she would be tall for it. It doesn't matter though. She loves the dutch door (she calls the bottom portion the doggy door), the window curtains, the chimney, just everything about it, and all the accessories. She doesn't mind sitting/kneeling to play with it at all.

If you have ever put up one of those tents with the plastic poles with stretchy cords inside of the poles, this is totally different. It comes with a metal frame that you piece together and is sooo much more durable. The cottage material is nylon like a play tent but a little thicker. Once you assemble the frame and figure out which way to place the material, it's pretty simple to put together. The side without the chimney is slightly smaller than the side with the chimney and can fit right inside of the chimney side if you want to consolidate it for storage. I have a feeling this one won't be getting put away for a while though.

  • LOVE This beautiful house for my girls!
    By A26616HJ5NWJKP on 2007-12-27
My daughters 4 and 2 LOVE this playhouse! It was HORRIBLE to assemble, definitely watch the online video. The stove and washer are very durable and the playhouse really seems like it will last. The house is so pretty and has unlimited play value, I was surprised to see the little details like the mail slot, hard floors and carpet in the living room, the magnetic doors and curtains that close make this a special toy and worth the money.

  • Great Toy!
    By AXNU8QEQOQLJI on 2007-12-27
Santa delivered this to my daughter and I have to say it's a huge hit - my daughter is 3 and my son 18 months and they are both having a ball. We initially read the reviews and the early set up reviews complaining it was tough to assemble almost turned me off. But it was very easy! I will say hubby and I set it up together but it really was not an issue whatsoever. It's absolutely adorable and providing loads of entertainment for the kids. I'd definetly recommend it to anyone w/little ones!

  • Perfect size for an 18-month-old
    By AOZ1PZQOMAVZT on 2007-12-27
My 18-month-old daughter adores this toy. It is the perfect size, she can easily open and "lock"(magnetic clasps) the doors, peer out the windows and even spilt the whole home apart and push it back together. Because the walls are thin and there are three windows and a chimney, it does not become hot or stuffy inside even when the two halves are completely joined. Her four-year-old "all boy" brother has even been see playing in and around it.

  • We SCORED!!!
    By APH0KDYQTSIJW on 2007-12-28
We just got our Rose Petal Cottage today! My mom had bought it before Christmas for $80, but I found it today at Sam's for $60! Little did I know until we got home that we SCORED! We not only got the cottage, but also the nursery, stove, and muffin baking set! She absolutely LOVES it, even wanted to sleep in it tonight! My husband put it together and didn't seem to have any problems at all. I so recommend this to anyone with little girls! Def. make sure you have someplace to store it though as it is a good sized cottage!

  • Daughter loves it!
    By A13PBGSL89MEYU on 2007-12-28
My daughter saw this on TV a month before Christmas and had to have it. I thought that she was too old being that she is 4 and 1/2. I was right, she is a little big for the furniture and cottage, but she loves it! Some reviews say that the cottage was hard to put together. Once my husband and I figured out how the fabric went on the frame it wasn't that bad. I would buy this again but I would recommend it for younger girls (ages 2-3).
