50% of Floyd is 100% great! By A39CLUEZN0XIPY on 2007-09-19
Another reviewer mentioned that having Echoes here was worth the price of the DVD alone. I would agree, and add that having Wots..Uh the Deal also makes this worth the bucks. Too many of these songs he has done before ad infinitum (do we really need another take on Coming Back to Life or High Hopes??), but having this great track from my favorite Floyd album "Obscured By Clouds", is just great! Since that album is probably their least known (and certainly most underrated, in my book), it may serve to convince people to go back and see where this beautiful song came from. Other than that, great picture and sound, and a ton of extras (not to mention what must be 3 1/2 hours of music), makes this one a must-have! And I only paid $11.99!!!
Oh No!!! Another rehash of David Samson singing Roger's songs (good) and Polly Ono's songs (bad) By AQ867CX43GSSK on 2007-06-20
Is this DVD really necessary? I mean, how long ago was it that David Samson released "David Geekmour in Concert"?? Maybe 40 pounds ago? Not long enough.
What is the point here? To watch this guy warble out Roger Waters' songs when the artist himself, Waters, is available, makes NO sense. Its like American Idol except heavier...and he doesnt move.
Only new thing here are those terrific songs from On An Island which were so great that nobody can listen to them without falling asleep. In fact, that horrible album is so bad that they had to start putting warning labels on the album cover stating "caution. Will cause drowsiness. Do not listen while operating a motor vehicle or heavy machinery".
In his entire lifetime, this guy has not written a single song by himself that wasnt worse than what your average 15 year kid with a single guitar lesson under his belt could do. Never has somebody so devoid of inspiration lived so well off of another artist's inspiration.
Almost as bad as Broken China by Rick Wright or Fictitious Sports by Nick Mason (thankfully, these albums are out of print). After Syd departed, Pink Floyd was left with one very talented guy and 3 Ringo's....2 of which are shockingly ungrateful Ringos. The least Rick Wright and David Samson could do is send Roger a note saying "thanks for making us rich...sorry we didnt help much with those great albums you wrote like Dark Side, Animals, and The Wall". But instead, like many other welfare queens, they resent the hand that continues to feed them.
Two Words... By A1Y9I4VEEN9OUT on 2007-09-20
...AbsolutelyPositively Stunning!
Try not to sit there in complete awe as Gilmour and his band (and a few guests) flawlessly execute the entire ON AN ISLAND album, as well as a goodly portion of PF material that will have you scratching your head and saying to yourself...Hmmm...Waters / Gilmour...Gilmour / Waters...
I was a bit skeptical of this offering initially, and having seen Roger Waters and HIS band back in June, I was prepared to accept Gilmour's show as "another" in their little back and forth.
But I realize, and happily, that there's more than enough room for the two of them, and you can never get enough great music, no matter who's interpreting it.
The full-length ECHOES alone is worth the cost of this package.
What does that tell ya?
And when rock royalty (Gilmour) invites Rock Royalty (David Bowie) in to participate...you feel a bit privileged just to be a part of the action.
A stunning package and a must-have for any David Gilmour or PF fan.
One thing that does puzzle me tho' is this...why does he virtually ignore the first two solo records...DAVID GILMOUR and ABOUT FACE?
I'd love to hear anything from either of those two albums.
BUT.........I ain't complaining...jessaskin'...
...is all.
Enjoy.
Brad King's is really Roger Waters By A2UML7GT9IL6O1 on 2007-08-08
I just had to chime in in defense of this DVD and offset the one star by Brad.
Roger is that really you penning under the name of Brad King? Brad if it is - I'm enjoying the fact that you display your ignorance for the world to see. Roger, left the band after the Final Cut album almost 2 decades ago. I imagine this to you is no different then when Syd left the band and the nay sayers wouldn't have anything to do with Floyd without "him". Gilmour had his hand in arranging most of the music the Floyd did, along with singing his fair share of songs, and any idiot knows that Rogers forte wasn't musical composition (just listen to his solo album Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking) but rather lyrics. Amazing how the Floyd and Gilmour's solo efforts have managed to stay in the forefront for the past 2 decades with out him.
As for your review based purely upon spite without even seeing the disk - well every village needs an idiot. Brad thanks for being ours.
Gilmour Enjoying His Freedom By AVZUVRF7MFS24 on 2007-10-23
Literally worth five times the price and an equal in it's own way to PULSE, with intimacy and a freer feel offsetting the more minimal lighting (although enormously impressive in its own right.)
As the other reviewers have given an accurate overview I'll just mention one cut, that being "Comfortably Numb," which you and I know every second of by heart, it's in our blood.
This performance features David Bowie sharing lead vocals. Now the idea of anyone but Mr. Gilmour taking over vocals on this song is enough to make my hair catch on fire, but THIS WORKS. It actually becomes a Bowie song while remaining a Floyd epoch. It's thrilling, it's almost dreamlike to watch a singer of equal caliber and credibility to Mr. Gilmour share this song and to take it's inherent drama and mystery to another level entirely.
The DVD also points out what a superb disc "On An Island" is, sadly overlooked by too many Floyd fans for not being heavy enough (man.)
And it's in high def - you can almost reach out and shake Rick Wright's hand.
Extras are top flight, set is an incredible bargain and you'll have trouble turning it off and going to bed. Mr. Gilmour once again proves that he's in a class all by himself, a category of artist of which there is only one.
- Get The Facts Straight Brad
     By A1FVBRUUHG17DU on 2007-08-21
5 years ago I felt compelled to write a review of "In The Flesh" by Roger Waters, there were several anti-Roger/pro David reviews written at the time. It's sad that I have to do the same again, in reverse.
Brad King, it would be helpful if you had any idea what you were talking about. As far as I can tell by the information provided, there are no "Roger Waters' songs" on this DVD. There are Pink Floyd songs that Roger has co-writer credits, all of which David Gilmoue shared writing credit or songs David wrote himself, with the following exceptions:
Speak To Me (Mason)
Arnold Layne (Barrett)
Wearing The Inside Out (Wright/Moore)
The Great Gig In The Sky (Wright)
David wrote the songs, he played and sang on the original recordings. Roger performs several of the songs live as well. They both have every right to play them now and until the day they die. So Brad, please make sure you have the facts before you go on another rambling binge. It just makes you look silly.
That being said, I am really looking forward to this DVD being released, I'm sure it is a gem.
- Amazing
     By A3VNTMEAJ5LVUF on 2007-09-15
***Slight Spoiler***** Read ahead if you don't want to be shocked.
I was lucky enough to not only get this several days ago (It is not in stores till the 18th) but I also watched it at home and then had the chance to see it in the movie theater today along with the broadcast questions and answers session with David. It is just amazing and the IMAX theater version was cut by about an hours worth of songs that are on the DVD of course. The strobe lights in a couple areas of this dvd were messing with the theater's screen capabilities but otherwise it was cool. Echoes is a standout on the first dvd. The bonus DVD has the real gems here though. How about Roger Waters and David Gilmour having a friendly chat and actually hugging. You heard it here folks. By-gons being by-gons?. Well I have to say things have been much better between these two in the last 2-3 years. Folks this is a great 2 DVD package with everything the Gilmour enthusiast would want. He is by far my favorite musician of all time. I also spotted many other people on the bonus DVD. How about Paul Simon, Mike Rutherford getting into a Limo with David, A couple of guys from Gilmour's past touring solo bands in 84 and 89. Look closely and you will see even more people you know but are not announced. Enjoy!

I was lucky enough to see the On An Island Tour and I can not wait for the DVD.If you are even looking at this DVD and know who Gilmour is I do not have to write a review, because you already know how Hot it will be.
Buy-Enjoy.
- IT IS NOT GILMOUR VS WATERS
     By AM61JNSDQLEZT on 2007-08-31
Why in the hell do so many feel compelled to rip on one or the other? I saw Pink Floyd in Phoenix on their Division Bell Tour and then Waters in Vegas on his In the Flesh tour. Both of them are geniuses. Pure and simple.
Gilmour was recently voted "Best Guitarist of all time" by Guitar magazine, UK and desrves it. No one has a feel for lead guitar melody like him.
Waters is superb on lyrics and really knows how to put music together [listen to him and Jeff Beck on Amused to Death]. It just doesn't get any better. The fact that these two are no longer together does not mean one is a loser, or one is better, or any damn thing. It just means we now have two different sources of listening pleasure.
- Tried to buy it based on great reviews.... but it isn't even out yet!
     By A2HCGOMWM1PH4G on 2007-09-01
One of the reviewers wrote: "I love Roger Waters and David Gilmour for different reason but to come on here to Amazon and write reviews on anything involving David Gilmour in such a manner is insane"
Here's what's more insane: coming on here to amazon and writing reviews of a product that hasn't even been released. Come on people, wait until the DVD comes out, actually BUY it, actually WATCH it, THEN submit your impressions. Writing reviews based on how you hope it will turn out is just plain silly, not to mention misleading. I'm giving one star to even things out a bit.
- Remember That Night - The Basics
     By A2LDONSK5WH7IO on 2007-09-23
Any way you look at it, this DVD package is a great value for the money - the sticker on the outside says it all - "Over 5 hours of footage plus bonus content, including additional tracks, music videos, documentaries and photo gallery." Given the wide variety of songs, it's difficult to characterize this DVD. I guess you could say this is a combination of the heartfelt On An Island songs, with Pink Floyd classics. A considerable amount of work went into it - there is something here for everybody.
Director David Mallet (who also did the highly acclaimed Pink Floyd Pulse DVD) has put together a great mix of shots from the many cameras in the Royal Albert Hall, and which combines a selection of clear shots of the band with the artsy/abstract ones (I especially liked the closeups of Gilmour's fingers working the guitar). This is not Pulse (an arena extravaganza show), but rather a rendering of the On An Island tour show which was geared for theaters (many lights all around the stage, lots of smoke, and some lasers during the later Floyd songs). This show is more moody and personal, with more feeling, than an in-your-face arena show. More about the people and the music - more genuine or intimate in a way (I do love arena shows too). It was filmed at the end of the tour, so the band had the songs down to perfection (and this is the best from the 3 nights of Albert Hall shows). They obviously enjoyed doing it. Amazon provides a good example of the video with their excerpt from Breathe.
David's band includes Richard Wright from Pink Floyd, Phil Manzanera from Roxy Music (an excellent addition, who also co-produced and played in the OAI CD), Jon Carin, Guy Pratt, and Steve DiStanislao. Guests include David Crosby and Graham Nash, David Bowie, and Robert Wyatt.
Disk One is all concert, and is a full 2 ½ hours long (no filler breaks between songs, like on some DVDs - Sir Paul are you listening?!). Songs are: Speak To Me, Breathe, Time, Breathe, Castellorizon, On An Island, The Blue, Red Sky at Night, This Heaven, Then I Close My Eyes, Smile, Take A Breath, A Pocketful of Stones, Where We Start, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Fat Old Sun, Coming Back To Life, High Hopes, Echoes, Wish You Were Here, Find The Cost Of Freedom, Arnold Layne (w/Bowie) and Comfortably Numb (w/Bowie). The performance of Echoes (23 minutes) is worth getting the DVD alone. The fast moving band silhouettes during the strobe sequence of Take A Breath are brilliant. Bowie makes Comfortably Numb his own.
Disk Two has lots of extras: 30 minutes of Albert Hall extras (Wot's Uh The Deal, Dominoes, Wearing The Inside out, Arnold Layne (w/Richard Wright) and Comfortably Numb (w/Richard Wright)); Europe tour documentary; Dark Globe performance from the tour; acoustic studio Echoes (not listed); Astronomy Domine (Abbey Road); This Heaven (AOL sessions); BBC Mermaid Theatre concert (Castellorizon, On An Island, The Blue, Take A Breath, High Hopes); Making of OAI documentary; West Coast tour documentary; music videos (On An Island & Smile), Island Jam 2007; a photo gallery.
There has been talk of Easter Eggs. The "hidden" material I'm aware of are a 7-minute fun acoustical studio version of Echoes that runs right after Dark Globe on Disk Two, and that you can click Enter when the wire-man appears during the documentary for extra material (love to know if there's anything else - comments?).
The package is a tri-fold digipak, containing two DVDs and a 20-page booklet. The booklet is a cool collection of photo collages, including lots of band pics, news clippings, and tour paraphernalia. Audio options are Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Stereo. Amazon also shows a Blu-ray version of the DVD coming out later this year (the concert was filmed in high definition).
Overall, this is a generous package by one of rock's greatest guitar masters - excellent music, audio and video - highly recommended!
- Great concert - if the disc actually works . . .
     By A20PAFDZ62FU8Q on 2007-09-20
I'm going to write a quick "buyer beware" review of this on.
1. The content itself is impeccable. The live Echoes alone is worth the price of admission. On an Island live is also fantastic. This is the best live Floyd related release ever. Better than Pulse. Better than Roger's DVD. The music and visuals are that good . . .
2. . . . if the disc actually works. Mine doesn't. It's not scratched or anything, but it's failed on two DVD players. It plays just fine till Fat Old Sun. Then it skips like mad. Its unable to play most of Fat Old Sun, any of Coming Back to Life, or the first half of High Hopes. And looking on a few message boards, I'm not the only one with this problem.
- Does it get better than this?
     By A39TD819MQQVH7 on 2007-09-27
I knew this DVD would be great, but I had no idea it would be brilliant! As much as I liked Pulse, I like this show much better. I think I may have watched Echoes 20 times since I bought it. I couldn't believe it was only $12 bucks (Best Buy Version). I think David Gilmour is timeless. He sounds amazing after all these years. I don't think there is any doubt that he is one of the best Guitar players of our generation. I think almost every review I read said that Echoes alone makes the DVD worth buying and of course they are right. Rick Wright and David still harmonize beautifully together and Dave's guitar and Ricks Keyboards were amazing. I enjoyed all of the Documentary as well. Another highlight of the DVD was David's performance of "Dark Globe". I believe that it was Dave's tribute to Syd after he heard the news that Syd passed away. It was very emotional, you can see Syd Barrett meant a lot to Dave and it showed on that song. All in all, this DVD is spectacular and it is highly reccomended for all Floyd fans.
- Two Thumbs Up!!!
     By A22387X0ITXK2K on 2007-09-15
I saw the DVD release premier in Arlington, VA. WOW!!! David is as great as ever!! It was wonderful watching it on the theater screen. The whole showing was about two and a half hours long, but somehow the concert portion seemed kind of short. Or, maybe it was my perception - time flies when you are having a good time.
In the beginning, the band plays several songs from David's solo works with Crosby and Nash (I am not a big fan of david's solo music, so I don't know the titles... but they sounded great!). Then comes "Arnold Lane" featuring David Bowie, "High Hopes", "Shine On....", "Wish You Were Here", "Time", "Breath (reprise)", and then, the band ends the concert with amazing rendition of the masterpiece "Echoes". I got emotional from the beginning, but "Echoes" really did it - Wow! I don't know how to describe it... it is amazing! Richard Wright seems to have great fun with this piece incorporating more interesting variations on his keyboard. The pyrotechnique on stage is at it's peak during this piece, too.
Those of you who missed the concert like myself, get this DVD - it's a 'must' for any Pink Floyd/David Gilmour fan.
- Spectacular!
     By A2T9I5LEIYRET9 on 2007-09-18
I saw the Simulcast theatrical launch of this DVD last weekend at a local movie theater. It was fantastic. They live Satellite Simulcast an opening and closing interview set piece with David and band mates in a movie house in England, wrapping around a 'theatrical' cut of the DVD. The concert footage and music were spectacular. But I have to say that I almost enjoyed the 'On Island Tour' documentary footage even more than the show footage. Great interviews and wow what great locations for the tour shows.
A must for Floyd/Gilmour fans.
Irony is the spice of life footnote:
Turns out that completely coincidentally and unbeknownst to each other, David and Roger both booked separate studios in the same Music Studio in England, when David was rehearsing for his tour. There is a small piece where they meet and talk briefly on the grounds of the studio.
Enjoy everyone.
- Could be the ultimate Floyd related DVD
     By A3IONOAE8EKJH1 on 2007-09-27
Well, initially I had a similar problem with this DVD that other reviewers were having since High Hopes and Coming Back To Life were skipping. However, I exchanged it and so far there aren't any problems. There must be a few defective DVDs out there. I still watched the rest of the defective DVD of course. Putting all that aside, this DVD is just incredible. I agree with some of the other reviewers that it is better than Pulse (which I also love). I feel in this DVD, you get a much clearer picture of what a brilliant guitarist and musician Gilmour is. He is one of the best guitar players ever and you get plenty of close ups of him playing the guitar. The focus is on Gilmour and the band playing the music instead of the visualization that exhibits Pulse. Yes, there are many lighting effects but I feel that they don't distract the viewer from the brilliance of the performance. The music is outstanding. Great performances of Time, Breathe, Echoes, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Wish You Were Here, Comfortably Numb, High Hopes, Coming Back To Life, Fat Old Sun, Arnold Layne, and On An Island in its entirety. This DVD even has alternate versions of most of the songs plus a great version of "Wots..Uh the Deal." While the album On An Island isn't as good as the best albums by Floyd, it is still a fantastic album and it is even better when Gilmour performs it live. A definite plus for this DVD is the fact that Gilmour had Wright with him so you get half of Pink Floyd performing. Those two have always been the best MUSICIANS in Pink Floyd anyway. Waters is a very gifted songwriter but I wouldn't call him an outstanding bassist since Gilmour played many of the complicated bass parts for many Floyd songs. Other highlights of this DVD include the tour documentary and the documentary of the making of On An Island. You even get to witness Gilmour and Waters talking to each other and shaking hands although they both looked a little uncomfortable. Mason even has a cameo apperance. I also must add that you get to see the band play the intro to Time (instead of having to watch the clock video), you get to see the musicians play High Hopes (instead of having to watch that video like on the Pulse performance), and you get to see much more of Gilmour's second solo on Comfortably Numb. I can't say enough about the brilliance of this DVD. It has turned into one of my favorite DVDs in a matter of only a few days. If your a fan of David Gilmour and Pink Floyd, you will love this DVD. Also, for those of you who support Waters over Gilmour, remember that even though Waters was responsible for many of the Floyd's compositions, Gilmour (and Wright) was the best musician in the band and also the best singer. He's the one who played all those brilliant guitar parts and he's the one who sang classics like Time (with Wright), Money, Breathe, Welcome to the Machine, Us and Them, Wish You Were Here, Echoes (with Wright), and many more. Buy this DVD. It is absolutely incredible.
- 1080I not 1080P What Gives..
     By A3639X7W4WXQE1 on 2007-11-24
I bought this since i seen this concert in California and wanted to relive the experience. Now why did they rush it to blu ray and only make it 1080I resolution. I could have waited a few more months to have it in 1080P. Blu ray dropped the ball on this by not listing the rsolution and only saying master in high def. On all dark areas you see the limitations of the 1080I stick out. I could have bought the standard dvd and let my receiver and player up convert to 1080p and had a better picture. Sure with the standard dvd you dont get Trur Hd audio, but does the short comings in Video quality affect the overall show>> YES<<
- Great performance
     By A1LYZSHXMPW9ZI on 2007-11-28
I agree with others here with respect to the video quality however, I think it has less to do with 1080i versus 1080p and more to do with the filtered light, fog machines and camera white level limitations in a darkened Albert Hall. Unless this DVD is only available in Blu Ray I would pick it up in a standard 480p video format and save some money. The Dolby 5.1 production is first rate regardless of the video format. I buy mostly music DVDs and very few movies since I can rent them anytime. If you are starting an HD library and trying to decide whether to go Blu Ray or HD/DVD this DVD may help you decide.
- Unbelievably Great Live Performance
     By AWQD5EVYUSK6A on 2007-08-15
I was honored to see this concert live in Los Angeles. Gilmour's performance was incredible, and I've been waiting for this live DVD to come out ever since. This music is timeless.
- Poor Video - Great Audio
     By AQGRFH1CVVNWC on 2007-09-19
Sound is a 10 And Visual Quality is a 5. Most of the show had to many blue lights. And the smoke for 1 or 2 songs would have been fine but was use to much for most of the show. To many blue lights make the video grainy and to much smoke loses the performance on stage. The song Take A Breathe was overwhelming with to much red lights. Watching the show in person these visual effects would of been fine but filming with cameras have a hard time adjusting to these lights. More white lights and less blue lights would have produced a better video. When filming a Concert all Artists should take this into account! Watch Pink Floyd's Pulse which is a 10 for sound and video quality. I feel this is the reason it took so long for it to come out after filming because they tried to adjust and correct the video part of this concert.
- Great audio but the video is a mess!
     By AWF2ZUCW7R0Y3 on 2007-09-20
I absolutely love Pink Floyd and all of their fine DVDs and albums, but this item was a bit of a disappointment for me, all because of the heavy use of smoke, color, and bright lights that washed away my ability to get a clear view of the musicians' performances. The horrible use of excessive lights and smoke simply ruined it for me. The tags on the package emphasized the use of HD cameras for the video - I don't know why they even bothered.
If you can "look past" the shoddy video, the audio & overall concert performance is very good.
But if great video is important, pass this one up and get "David Gilmour in Concert" or "Pulse" instead.
- Pink Island
     By AS0J8HYVM7LPJ on 2007-10-18
Best bits:
A wonderful version of Shine On You Crazy Diamond, the band doesn't play the entire piece, dropping out to allow Dave's solo guitar and vocal to work with Crosby/Nash. Probably the best live version I've heard of SOYCD.
Echoes - wow. Laughing wah-wah feedback and all! And don't miss the acoustic Echoes closing section live at Abbey Road on disc 2!
Both performances of Take a Breath are scathingly good.
Wot's... Uh the Deal is a great tune from the underrated Obscured by Clouds.
Dark Globe, Domino and Astronomy are nice tributes to Syd.
Richard Wright is great in this, and seems to have a larger role than on previous Floyd videos. Phil Manzanera is great, good interplay with Dave.
When you get down to it, this is a nice, stripped down Floyd set, the absence of Mason on most of it doesn't matter. No pointless projections or flying pigs. No caterwauling female bg vocal trio. The music without the bloated bombast you usually get in a Floyd show (see Pulse).
Disappointments/Gripes:
Sorry, but the Dark Side medley, Breathe/Time/Breathe (reprise) is starting to sound a little tired. Thanks, Dave for not putting on another version of Money, it's been done to death.
No material from Gilmour's first two (great!) solo albums? I know the tour was to support "Island", but would have been nice to have "Short and Sweet" or "All Lovers are Deranged" instead of yet another boring version of "Coming Back to Life" and "High Hopes".
I found "On an Island" to be a disappointing album (with the exception of Take a Breath), and the entirety is performed here, although it has better impact on concert video.
What's with the stage lighting designer? Is it necessary to put a million watt klieg light behind Gilmour shining into the audience to blind us? Restrained, tasteful use of lasers, tho.
Deducted two stars on these points, but added a star just because of the amount of stuff here. (Almost) two complete concerts plus three documentaries, videos, and more extras.
Almost deducted a star because the tour didn't make it here to Texas. By the way, the three songs on the Best Buy EP are: Coming to Back to Life, High Hopes and Take a Breath. If you like Pink Floyd at all, get this DVD set.

- Gilmour's new concert DVD is definitely a MUST OWN
     By A1OML05BTJBEKS on 2007-12-24
Pink Floyd singer and guitarist David Gilmour just released his new DVD entitled Remember That Night - Live From the Royal Albert Hall and is indeed a MUST for all David Gilmour and Pink Floyd fans.
I got the Best Buy version (with a bonus live CD including the AOL Sessions EP) and I have already watched this DVD three times and it is SUPERB! For those who were at The Royal Albert Hall and/or any of his solo shows (I envy you) this is a great souvenir and for those of us who weren't (like me) it shows us what we all missed.
There are 23 (technically 25 counting the outro and the intermission) songs on the concert disc of 'Remember That Night', which documents the Royal Albert Hall shows of May 29, 30 and 31, 2006.
Gilmour was backed onstage by fellow Floyd member keyboard player Rick Wright, PF 1987 alum which were keyboard player Jon Carin and bass player Guy Pratt, Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera and drummer Steve DiStanislao. Plus, there are guest appearances by David Crosby, Graham Nash (2/3 of Crosby, Stills and Nash and/or 1/2 of Crosby Stills Nash and Young take your pick), Robert Wyatt and the Thin White Duke and rock music's real chameleon David Bowie.
The first set begins with three from Dark Side of the Moon which are "Speak to Me", "Breathe", "Time" and "Breathe (Reprise)" (all are excellent versions). Next is the On an Island portion and "Castellorizon" is amazing live, "On An Island" (with Crosby and Nash) is excellent, "The Blue" (with Crosby and Nash) is just awesome live, "Red Sky at Night", "This Heaven", "Then I Close My Eyes" (with Robert Wyatt) is an excellent version, "Smile" is good, "Take A Breath" is excellent live (this track was first released on the OAI CD/DVD set as a taster for the DVD), "A Pocketful of Stones" and an excellent "Where We Start" to finish set one of the first DVD.
Next is the intermission film, quite funny.
The second set starts with "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" (with Crosby and Nash) then a spirited "Fat Old Sun", "Coming Back To Life", "High Hopes", a spellbinding version of "Echoes", "Wish You Were Here", "Find The Cost Of Freedom" (with Crosby and Nash), a stellar "Arnold Layne" (with David Bowie) and a jawdropping version of "Comfortably Numb" (with David Bowie).
The second DVD contains other Royal Albert Hall performances of "Dominoes", "Wots...Uh the Deal", "Wearing the Inside Out" and "Arnold Layne and "Comfortably Numb" (sans Bowie but doesn't include Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason out of fear of Pink Floyd reunion to boost sales).
The second DVD also features three documentaries (one called Breaking Bread Pouring Wine (documenting the tour from March to August of 2006 and there are cameos by Nick and (shock, gasp, horror) Roger Waters who wished David good luck on his second leg and vice versa and seems the feud between them is finally over for good, I remain a swan song from PF is in the cards and Nick Mason and Rick Wright and even Roger Waters want to resurrect PF one last time whilst Gilmour is a bit reluctant to do it at the moment), another documenting DG and company in Los Angeles (funny stuff) and the other is the OAI EPK with some different bits as opposed to the original one on the internet) and pieces from the Mermaid Theater concert from March 7, 2006. Also Island Jam 2007 is included recorded at Gilmour's home in Sussex, England. "Dark Globe" is also included and some Easter Eggs that I cannot give away and you will have to see to find out.
This DVD is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
- A 10-STAR CONCERT/PERFORMANCE!!!
     By A2VJUBBKFJNVMF on 2007-12-27
I have always been a huge Pink Floyd fanatic. When "Pulse" came out, I thought it was the epitomy of the best ever of Pink Floyd. But, then came David Gilmour Live at The Royal Albert Hall performance! All I can say is WOW! What a must-have companion to "Pulse". All Pink Floyd fans should definitely add this concert performance DVD to their collection. David et al. may be older (as we all are) but man can they all still play fantastically! Bravo, bravo, bravo!

I love David Gilmour and all that he brought to Pink Floyd. His solo work is stellar. The fact that this great performance and line up of guests is thwarted by a poor video source/capture/transfer is a real disappointment on BluRay. The grainy look on the distant camera angles is distracting when run through PS3>HDMI>Sony XBR4 LCDtv(true 1080p/120hz). Even the 'on stage' close ups lack the vivid feel you expect with high definition. If you have seen the Cream 2005 HD DVD shot at the Royal Albert Hall, you know a true high definition concert experience. The video is pristine. This Gilmour compilation has stupendous audio quality, but it just does not make up for the non-hi def looking vid.
- Disapointed for Blu-ray

Just purchased a Blu-ray player and this "HD concert" and was VERY
Disapointed in the quality as with other reviews.
Very grainy and poor HD for a Blu-ray release.
There should be a disclaimer on the DVD that says, "not in original HD"
This HD show looks like an "up converted 480i" show.
Thinking about returning it.
- Awesome!

Well I just returned home from seeing the Northern States DVD showing at the IMAX theater and what an experience. There was even live linked Q&A via satellite with Gilmore and that put the icing on the cake. They even showed us the extras of the band behind the scenes while touring. We are true fans of Gilmore and what a great time they were all having doing this tour. I just ordered my copy of the DVD and can't wait to get it. There was a song that took us by surprise and really stood out and that was Echoes! What a treat that was. Enjoy all of you who purchase it! You wont be disappointed!

Until you have witnessed David Gilmour live you will never find a better show of highly creative talent. This fantastic guitarist can do it all with ease plus provide total devotion to all of his loyal fans.
I highly recommend this DVD for all avid Pink Floyd fans
- absolutely magnificent

If you have ever loved pink floyd, you would have to be deaf or dead not to fall in love with this concert.
The quality of the music, the enormous amount of material, Crosby, Nash and David Bowie, David Gilmour
Rick Wright, Jon Carin - I thought I had died and went to heaven. The inclusion of a full length rendition of Echoes live on DVD is worth about twice the cost of this DVD.
This is the best music DVD released since Pulse. God bless you David, keep making music for this
old Floyd freak.
