  • Look cool, sound OK, but volume keys don't work at all

    By ABDDXD7MGFPZV on 2008-06-08
I bought these speakers because they looked so cool. Very innovative design. The sound is pretty good, but not great -- decent highs, but the bass from the subwoofer isn't as strong as I would like. Based purely on the design and sound, I would recommend these speakers to others.

But I cannot recommend these speakers since they have a "fatal flaw". JBL really messed up when they made the volume buttons touch sensitive. Interesting concept, except that they don't work AT ALL. I can't raise or lower the volume, or mute the speakers. I'm stuck listening to everything at the default volume level. In reading some blogs, it turns out that others are experiencing the same problem that I am. Sounds like a fundamental design flaw in the product.

I applaud JBL's effort to bring some style to the PC speaker market, but they went too far with the volume keys, putting form ahead of function.

  • Amazing sound

    By A1RE2702M2L98M on 2007-08-29
When I bought these JBL I expected really good quality, but I got something even better, the sound is very crisp, the bass is perfect, the sound is just great to fill not just the room, even the garden next to the computer room is full of music. Great product, completely satisfied.

  • The Spyro is great

    By A2REKFEDSE5DES on 2008-01-26
I love my fuchsia Spyro speaker system. It is so fun to use and great to look at. The sound is excellent especially the base. I have used my Spyro with my new third generation i-pod and it is fabulous. The system can handle a pretty large space and is perfect for smaller spaces as well. Initially I found the volume control on the speaker to be a bit temperamental but with some practice I am able to set the volume without a problem. My only complaint is that the system is so unique people are distracted by its appearance which makes it difficult to teach my yoga class. I may have to hide the speakers!

  • Volume Control Issue

    By A1PY6E333W0NO8 on 2008-08-10
In response to Shazam's complaint that there is no volume control on his speaker system, although the complaint is valid in terms of design and using the "touch" system serves only to increase the volume, the volume may be decreased via the + (plus) - (minus) audio keys on your computer keyboard. I find it is easier to employ the keyboard, as it is right in front of me, instead of reaching over to the speaker to raise the volume. I hope this helps.

I am really enjoying the JBL Spyro speakers. They give some really good sound to my new MAC laptop.

  • Works very well
    By A2EJW3RARV12HY on 2008-08-18
I really like these speakers. Set-up was easy and the sound quality is good. Probably not the greatest choice for true audiophiles, but for my purposes (listening to music and podcasts while sitting at the computer) they fit the bill perfectly. The two speakers are very small and fit nicely out of the way on my desk. The sub, cables and power cords are all concealed nicely underneath. Recommended as nice desktop speakers.

  • Excellent for the price, but with kink
    By A396UD7IPOOZQV on 2008-09-11
I just bought these at Sam's Club for $40 (in white to match my mac)! I went online to read the reviews. I bought them because i saw they were on sale and for the price, they were exactly what I needed. They have great sound and amazing volume for the size of the speakers. I can't complain about the subwoofer since it's perfect for my needs. However, my only complaint is the positioning of the input jacks and bass control. with all the wires where they are supposed to go, it is very difficult to adjust the bass. Also, the way it's set up, the control is right next the rest of the jacks in the BACK... or the jacks are in the FRONT depending on how you look at it. All in all... not a bad buy for $40, but I'm glad I didn't pay Amazon's price.

  • Different looking
    By A3EDL0HUDKTFG1 on 2007-12-01
They look nice - would rather have square subwoofer - it goes on floor so no reason to have to look fancy (round). Sounds very good - not amazing - but very good. A little pricey for what it is. Volume control is cool (touch sensitive).

  • Great sound quality
    By A8OWL8RRRFZ9T on 2008-02-22
This unit sounds very good. was expecting it to be louder, but at 36watts I guess you can't expect much. I have similarly priced speakers that just blow these away. These should be priced much cheaper. only 4 stars because of overpriced.

  • Not bad for the $80
    By A32L99Q6GBGV10 on 2008-07-15
I paid a special onsale price of $80 and that's why I made the purchase, and this review is based on this price.

Pro: great design, nice to look at, decent sound quality and volume based on its size.

Cons: Subwoofer not enough for really heavy bass but that's expected, tremble and mid range a bit lacking as well but again it's pretty normal for the size, the two flower paddle speakers can be knocked over pretty easily, you need to keep holding on to the touch sensitive volume control areas for a half second or so for it to react properly and continue to go up or down in volume, the audio in cable tip will produce noise if touched when it is inserted into the subwoofer so better insert it first before turning on the subwoofer.

Overall, it's really not that bad for the price I paid. I immediately liked it right after it came out but I was not willing to pay for the higher retail price. Don't buy it if you are expecting really strong bass out of a subwoofer this small and don't use the full subwoofer volume if you buy one, as the bass can be a bit hollow when cranked to the full volume. I get better sound when connected to a PC than a iPod, and I tried setting the EQ on iPod but no matter what the setting the sound effect came out a bit un-natural, so I set it back to EQ Off. However, I believe I am a bit more picky and discerning to sound quality than some out there, and I am very into audio systems and all that, so this unit didn't blow me away when I first tried it, but I am getting used to its sound now. If you use it with a MP3, the bit rate of the songs also plays a pretty significant factor, as I can tell the difference between a 128kbps and a 320kbps very easily, the 320kbps song gives a louder and fuller sound for sure and it can match the output of my old CD player on bedside, so that's worth the $80 I spent but I am not sure paying over $100 for it.

  • Pretty sweet
    By A3UNXK392A2GQP on 2008-08-08
They are small, easy to use and sound a lot better than the dell speakers that came with my computer. These speakers seem to be quality construction too. I don't feel like they will break very easily and the chords are thick, I think they are shielded nicely. I also got them for a good price in a lightning deal at just 79$!

  • JBL - Spyro - 2.1 Speaker system (White)
    By A1AIIQHLUC2CBX on 2008-08-23
These are great. I am very happy with them. They put out the sound like they were giant speakers, and they're cute too. I would buy these again in a heartbeat.

  • Wonderful
    By A3VIPNL93HNL7T on 2008-09-08
I've had my speakers for a week now, and I LOVE them! They work perfectly. I haven't had any problems with the touch volume controls like some have had. You can control the volume from the computer as another option. Crystal clear music is pumped through out my room. I have a very tall ceiling (about 15ft) but these little speakers have some kick! A total steal for the price!!

  • The 60's hippie era is back!
    By A3CG93783LP0FO on 2008-09-25
But not the horrible sound we had to put up with in the 60's. These little speakers remind me of Flower Power from the late 60's. They sound great. Granted, sometimes the bass from the subwoofer isn't strong, but sometimes it's due to the music you are playing. I got these a few days ago from QVC - they had them at a birthday sale price of just $52! They are connected to my new Compaq desktop since the speakers that came in the flat panel monitor don't have any depth at all to them. I can't believe the price I got them for after I came here to read the reviews. I'm happy!
