• A very nice toy that teaches many concepts

  I've had this unit for a year now. It runs nearly every evening while I work on my computer and play music. This unit is sound driven with no other inputs. A sensitivity dial allows adjustment for volume and for distance from the speaker.
  
  Basically, the unit has two mirrors, one with the laser aimed at it, the other with the beam from the first mirror at it. The sound response works somewhat like a oscilloscope, but with some horizontal and vertical flourishes thrown in. This gives a near infinite number of patterns and designs that can be generated as a function of the frequency response and instrumental mix of the source music.
  
  In short order, you'll find yourself listening for certain notes or musical phrases to see if you can predict the pattern response.
  
  With any nominal parental guidance, music theory, electrical knowledge and basic physics, this becomes a extremely sought after (along with the lessons) toy for our kids.
  
  The exterior is a bit garish for me, a bit to toy like, but that's not deterred from the function of the unit, nor has it degraded the enjoyment my entire family has gotten from the thing.
  
  A best buy in my opinion.

  I was very happily surprised with the Red Hot Laser's's vividness and its variety of patterns. The sound activation works well too. The one drawback is that it does not come with an AC adapter. But that keeps the price down. It works well with batteries.
