***** The Best and the Brightest Scholars on 2012: The "Time" Odyssey ***** By A127JMGT826X6U on 2007-06-13
This is a DVD presentation that "connects the dots -- and dashes" of Mayan calendars and cosmology and integrates them into The Big Picture. As a collector of wisdom teachings from around the globe, this is now at the top of my Five Star A-List. Equally, I can see this is a must have for folks that want to share these insights with others but have lacked the resources -- time, energy, talent -- heretofore. Do yourself a favor and get this information into your consciousness, and turn your lights on fully, before our house lights go out in the flash of a coronal mass ejection that melts down our high-tech society power grid in Solar Cycle 24!

I was vaguely aware about the importance of the date with regard to the Mayan calendar and that there was some cosmic, astronomic aspect as well. This movie brought so much of that vague knowledge into sharp focus. It made me interested enough to read some of the writings by the various interviewees (and interviewer).
The most startling thing to me was the very positive approach -- this is not an 'end of the world' scenario. It offers a very hopeful vision of what can be if we have the strength and courage to make it so.
I have to admit I got tired of looking at the car as the narrator made her odyssey, but I never tired of the shots of the forests and mountains she traveled through -- and she's got a great hat!
I would recommend this to anyone looking for an introduction to these mysteries surrounding 2012. It will focus your search in a very positive and life-affirming way.
A rich and thought-provoking documentary By A1L963RKT7M79F on 2007-07-15
For anyone who is deeply concerned about the future of the planet, I highly recommend this film.
Writer/director Sharron Rose, went out on a quest for the meaning and import underlying the prophesies around the year 2012. She interviewed many of the leading writers and experts on the subject and brought together their knowledge in a very deep and moving way, for they spoke of the profound changes that are coming for all of us from an intellectual, spiritual and practical perspective. Whereas many of these type of documentaries focus on the fear factor, while it does not skirt the issues that are in front of us, 2012 The Odyssey puts them in a larger historical context and shows us that even though things may seem dark and chaotic, there is light at the end of the tunnel and we need not despair. In fact, it is a very kind and hopeful film.
In addition to the excellent interviews, towards the end, the film unveils the message of the mysterious Georgia Guidestones. Probably built by the Masons, or could it be the Illuminati or New World Order, this Stonehenge like monument offers a message for the future that is both frightening and fascinating. As Sharron says, this message which is like some new form of the Ten Commandments certainly gives one a lot to think about.
From the depth of the interviews, to the meeting with the Inka Elders and their prophesy that a new species is being birthed , to the concept of the noosphere and the teachings of Teilhard de Charden, this film is packed full of juicy information. I have watched it many times now with friends and family and every time I learn something new.
A DVD For Our Time By A31QBWXTKP45WL on 2007-07-29
I showed this DVD to a group of friends and acquaintances, and it was unanimously well received. The fact that several well known New Age thinkers and speakers were included gave the film added credibility. We all appreciated the positive message that we, as humans living on planet Earth, can choose to make 2012 the doorway to a golden age. We are not bound to go through more hell on earth unless we choose it. The film reminds us that we are now being given a loving wake up call by the Universe.
An inspiration! By A9VVO5SD8591O on 2007-11-25
As an eighteen year old who is concerned about the future of the planet and humanity I was touched on a very deep level by the beauty and message of 2012 The Odyssey. Director Sharron Rose interviews experts on the subject who have done a tremendous amount of research on the Mayan calendar and other prophesies from many traditions. Their message speaks to my heart as well as my mind. I was especially moved by the words of Alberto Villoldo and Jay Weidner concerning the issues that confront us and power that we have within us to shape our future.
I am so tired of the doom and gloom, fear-based programs that are presented on the mainstream television. The way that they are edited seems to touch only on the superficial and sensational aspects of our world. 2012 The Odyssey is different. It sheds new light on the issues of our times and offers a new vision of possibility for us. As Alberto says in the film, it is time for us all to wake up from our "cultural trance" and come together to create a world of harmony and beauty.
I love nature. The beauty of the forest, the greenery, the animals and the streams, gives me peace of mind and joy. I am saddened by the fact that people these days do not seem to care about our natural environment. I am concerned about the destruction of the environment and wonder what the future holds in store for my generation. So I was pleased to discover in the film the final statement written on the Georgia Guidestones, " Leave room for nature, leave room for nature." I wish there were more films like this one.

     By A24Q94YXX3SGBE on 2007-09-01
Very informative and lots of big hitters on the DVD (Alberto Villoldo, Jose Arguelles, etc.) explaining the background of 2012 and the meaning of the big date from a variety of cultural aspects. Narrator detracted from the substance of the tape, but overall EXCELLENT, VERY INFORMATIVE.
- A quiet challenge to those with ears to hear
     By A2MW63XW5ZZ5E2 on 2007-09-04
This DVD puts a quiet, philosophical spin on a subject that tends to invite controversy. We all have our own personal 'apocalypse' to face regardless of what happens in 2012. Watch this one more than once and let it speak to you on several levels. There's more to this one than meets the eye.
- Eye-Opening, Well Articulated, Inspiring . . .
     By A2VHNNWKU3QDF0 on 2007-07-13
One of those movies that you want to watch several times. The concepts and arguments are thoughtfully laid out and wonderfully articulated. The subjects interviewed are living legends and being able to hear their thoughts on a profoundly important topic makes this movie a gem. The content will astound you and forever change your perception on the Mayan Calendar and the countdown to 2012. This isn't a doomsday, end-of-the-world panic-fest, in fact it is quite the opposite. It is inspiring and hopeful. Simply brilliant.
- The Odd..issy
     By ATAU2V8U3K03H on 2007-11-23
Though I, too, was rather disappointed in the dvd, I still got something out of it. However, not so much as to view it a second time. I think it tried to cover too much and ended up a mish mash. It didn't go indepth into any particular aspect and so ended up as the equivalent of a bad coffee table book. A great opportunity missed I feel. I still ended up knowing little more about the Mayans and I hoped I would learn more. As a seeker for truth no matte where it leads, I found this documentary not to find a place on my must watch list. I also found the movie difficult to get into as there is such a lot of pre hype before it starts.
- Excellent DVD !!!

Loved this Movie. We screened this in our "Spiritual film series" to a sold out audience 2 times. This film pevoked a series of discussions which lasted for days.
I highly recommended getting on the bandwagon and staying tuned for the sequel.
- Excellent Information
     By AD2F1VNVMJK9B on 2007-06-26
The information was excellent but the movie dragged. It was difficult to keep focused. I will watch the movie again but break it up into shorter sessons so that I can concentrate on all the details. I will also let my children watch it in 15 minute sessions so they will be able to get the message.
- Nice work......

Should inspire many, like myself, to focus on 2012 as a fantastic opportunity to manifest a wondrous change in the direction humanity takes.....
- A positive outlook
     By ALIA4LCCTE4P1 on 2007-12-04
You've heard the murmur of people talking about the "End Times" and the significant changes due to happen in 2012. Watch "2012: The Odyssey" and gain another perspective. Gain an understanding that indeed people are talking and transformation is indeed occurring. All of the time! We are leading up to a place of awareness and there will be culmination, as prophetized by the Mayan calendar and supported by modern thinkers and Andean Shamans, that indeed in 2012, existence as we know it will be changed. Illuminated humans is the hopeful result. Greater sympathy with our world's ecology will lead us in the right direction. Watch this video and hear modern man interpret the ancient message of God.
- Very Informative
     By A2BL3Q1THF58GP on 2008-01-24
If you know nothing of the 2012 prophecies then this is a good video for you. The movie was slow in some parts but overall, I felt it explained the 2012 scenario and some of the opinions that surround it pretty well. I have seen several DVD's on this subject and this one is realtively unbiased and not a doomsday version like some that are out there. A great little movie for your spiritual collection.
- Important work
     By A24JKZ4353QCP0 on 2007-07-13
This is powerful material and I feel that it was well done. I feel that they made salient points that are important topics. This helped illuminate the 2012 topic and opened up a dialogue for the next few years. The footage was good and the speakers were excelent and very sincere.
- A Powerful Film
     By A2TNRFB2RCDRHR on 2007-08-22
Wow this film had a lot of deep and important information. It is so packed full of insights into the immense changes that are taking place in our world that I have watched it a number of times. Each time it seems to offer new revelations in a very rich yet subtle way. Don't miss it, for it will take you to another level of awareness of the reasons behind the earth changes and chaotic social and political turmoil that seem to be increasing every day.
- Great introduction to the subject of 2012
     By A3CHV2SRAVXF2U on 2007-12-07
I have been looking at the subject of 2012 for quite some time and I was exceedingly happy to see many of the leading researchers on the subject interviewed in such a meaningful way. This is a film that needs to be watched numerous times as the information is high quality and important. This is not a dogmatic film forcing a particular viewpoint down your throat. The speakers vary on what will happen in 2012 leaving a balanced perspective to the viewer. A great introduction to the subject. I am looking forward to the sequel.
- An Eye-Opener
     By A10FO8W4UA1T74 on 2007-12-15
I found this film to be extremely interesting and enlightening. I wasn't aware of the fact that the Mayan calendar ends in 2012. It ties in perfectly with what the Judeo-Christians have been saying about the "end of the times". I highly recommend seeing this film and telling others about it after you do. I was also unaware of the existence of the stones she visits in her travels. How many people are aware that these exist and why haven't they received more publicity? This is amazing. This film is a must-see for all truth seekers everywhere.
- It's OK, but lacks Astronomical and Mathematical Facts
     By APYLUC0B4W3Z on 2008-02-17
The DVD is put together as a patchwork of interviews with philosophers and writers around the meaning of the 2012 phenomenon and the spritual, psychological and sociological repercusions of the changes that it will bring. However, someone with more appetite for the astronomical and mathematical facts backing the '2012 Cataclismic Theory' (especially the Mayan or Egyptian numbers) will be disappointed.
- Uplifting and Inspirational
     By A33110VBOQEAX4 on 2008-05-02
As someone new to the topic of 2012, I found this documentary to be extremely inspiring. The quality of the exposition of the subject matter was excellent. The experts interviewed are extremely insightful concerning the great changes that are happening right now on our planet. I really liked the fact that it was a woman's odyssey. Director Sharron Rose's commentary spoke to my heart. With so much fear and negativity in the world right now concerning the future it is a pleasure to be exposed to a positive perspective. I would recommend this film to anyone wanting to explore the metaphysics and prophecies surrounding 2012.
- Pretty Good, Watch out for Gregg
     By A3PGVJF37JSHFO on 2008-06-27
If you have never heard of the Mayan calendar or 2012 then this might be worth watching. My larger concerns are with interviews of people of who don't have much clue what they are talking about especially Gregg Braden.
Everytime Gregg opens his mouth I get ready to start actively filtering what he says. He is the master of using lots of words in a sounding good way that mean nothing. Here are a few examples:
In the section starting at 6:35 Gregg says that Mayan calendar (in reference to 2012) is one of the most accurate calendars predicting every solar eclipse, lunar eclipse, etc. Gregg, the Mayan calendar, the sacred calendar, the Tzolkin, does not in itself predict anything. It is a set of numbers, like gears, which encounter one another. There are daykeepers who can intepret the energies of the Tzolkin but it is not an astronomical calendar. Maybe Gregg is talking about the Dresden codex or one of the other many Mayan Calendars. What Gregg is taking about is not the same document or mechanism as the Tolkin. This is our first example of Gregg fudging around information in a loose way.
Then Gregg goes of into this trail about the Mayan Calendar not accounting for the human response to these changes. Gregg, that is important maybe in your head but not in speaking about the Mayan calendar. This has nothing to do with the study of the Tzolkin.
Gregg is back on at 15:56 saying there is a growing body of research that says how we experience these cycles is dependant on how we respond to these changes. Come again? That is a statement that makes no sense, a true Braden-ism. What research, what cycles, and what responses? Then he says he thinks everything the masters have been saying for the past 5000 years has been preparing us for this time. How do I even get a handle on such an incredulous remark? Do Buddhists care about the completion of a time cycle in the Mayan Calendar? Did Lao Tzu talk about getting ready for 2012? Help me out here Gregg? Why are you saying this nonsense?
He says the masters are saying if you change your life you will change your body. And if you change your body you will change your world. Hmmm, ok, maybe there is an alchemical stretch here. But most mystics would say the change has to start in your beliefs, your inner landscape, and that the outer world is a mirror of the inner world, not of the specific state of just your body. Then Gregg drops off into some proof of this from quantum physics that the world is a mirror of what we have become collectively from within. Ok, there is some truth to this. But it is really irritating that he combines concepts in a willy-nilly manner that make it sound like he just proved his entire previous point by stating one truth at the end. This kind of careless, or fluffly, combination of statements exists somewhere between imagination and truth. To me that sounds like slick talk or even snake-oil. Mixing things that don't directly relate. Gregg finishes this section by saying that our feelings tend to be mirrored within these great cycles of time. Maybe. But where is your proof for this? And off we go again thinking that what he said was truth. Is is because he sounds so sincere or does he have some hypnotic power to make people just swallow whatever he says?
At 25:33 Gregg is back and says the [?Mayan] calendar is showing us this is a period of opportunity where all the parameters for the past 25000 years [is that because of precession?] are falling away like training wheels. He claims that on Dec 21 2012 we will be more of ourselves than we ever have before. What does that mean? Will we each sprout two heads? Walk on water? Somehow what he said sounds good. But there is no clue as to what he means and no truth to be seen in it. Gregg then claims that the magnetic fields of the earth are holding our perceptions and beliefs and that when the magnetic field either fades and/or reverses then we have an opportunity to become what we have practiced for so long and become truly who we are. Ok, I'm scratching my head here. Is there any proof that the magnetic fields of the earth hold our perceptions and beliefs in place? If we really did land twelve men on the moon then they should have become gods because they were fully outside of Earth's magnetic field. Sorry Gregg, what you say is really nice sounding but with the filters on it does start to sound like hooey.
At 29:45 Gregg claims that without exception he has come across no tradition that does not account for some end-time prophecy. And he says we are in for a big change. But I say that living everyday now one finds one big change or another. Just check the price of gas or food to see it. But for Gregg to say that he knows of no traditions that do not have the end-time concept means he knows nothing about the Mayan Calendar. The Mayan Calendar is a cyclic system. The beginning of the next baktun (maybe Dec 21 2012) is not the end of time but another rollover of the cycles just like a odometer. Yes there will be changes. But in the Mayan system there is no end-time around 2012. This is a big embarrasing slip.
At 31:34 Gregg says Earth is going through a magnetic reversal right now. But Gregg, all we know from science is that the field it weaking. It may or may not do a reversal in the next few years. Then Gregg claims that the increase in solar luminescence AND the weaking of the magnetic fields is what is causing global warming and the poles to melt. But Gregg, other planets like Mars also seem to be warming due to solar luminescence alone. In fact Mars does not even have a magnetic field. Seems like Gregg should stay away from detailed scientific facts because they, like other concepts, become combined in his head too often. He finishes that vignette by claiming that the melting of the poles will affect ocean salinity and currents [?can you spell 'Gulf Stream'] and this will affect global weather patterns. Perhaps this is correct but I would not take it as fact from Gregg. You should start to see a pattern here. Mix in a little fact with alot of fluff and you have found a way to baffle them with you know what.
At 33:26 Gregg claims that the Sun has already lost it's North and South poles. Oh really? You mean the sun no longer rotates on it's axis? Stop the presses. But seriously, I think Gregg maybe thinking of something from the book 'The Orion Prophecy' rather than a study by NASA. Then Gregg starts talking about the magnetic fields on other planets decreasing (remember, there is no magnetic field on mars). Where does he get this stuff? He then is literally stumbling onscreen with this mashup of half facts. Next he claims that the magnetic fields are the glue for consciousness and as the glue becomes weaker and weaker we have the opportunity to transcend beliefs that have been held in place for 5,000 years or so. Well, hold the phone. I would like some proof of this glue. And what beliefs from the last 5000 years do we need to let go of? (I'm sure you can name a few, like patriarchy, and materialism. But if you check with Terrence McKenna we got messed up alot longer than 5000 years ago.)
At 38:06 Gregg returns to this concept of the magnetic fields holding conscioussness (enough already). He says things that are not in integrity will implode upon themselves (you mean as the field decreases?) as they collapse under their own weight. And that we can apply those understandings (what understandings?) in our personal lives and our global lives. While it doesn't provide an excuse for what happened (?what happened) it might provide a framework for people to understand what it is that's going on. ?? Huh? What are you talking about? The fluff-meter is pegged here folks. I just heard about magnetic fields and I now have a framework that sounds like a cloud shaped like the holy grail.
At 54:59 Gregg says people are asking him what to do (now that's an ominuous position to give your power away like that). Then Gregg says that we are changing due to responses to changes in the physical parameters. This right here proves to me that Gregg is not plugged in. The basis of the Mayan calendar is that the spiritual always leads the physical. It takes changes in the spiritual intent (Gregg, it's called Hunab Ku) through the morphogenetic fields (see Rupert Sheldrake) in order to cause a change down into the physical. All spiritual healing takes place from the spiritual to the physical. Our science of today tries to cut and chop away at spiritually-rooted physical problems by only dealing with the material results, not by dealing with the [spiritual] causes of those problems. This line of thinking, to me, proves, that Gregg does not hold any place in the community of teachers of the spiritual.
Then Gregg talks about the juxtiposition of the old a new ways and how this can be a very beautiful and painful process. Ok, I'm lost how this fits into the question about what is going on. This is very fluffy and has no content.
At 57:32 Gregg is back to talk again that for at least the past 5000 years (check Terrence McKenna for a longer window) those that came before us from all the wisdom traditions knew of this convergence of cycles. But Gregg, classical Christianity has fought against cycles of time and stressed final outcomes directed as the result of the playing out (or running out) of linear time (did he ever read Augustine). Gregg claims that all these masters said that you can do this, that if you change your body, you will be able to accomodate the changes of the earth. Then he claims whatever happends to the earth happens to us (can you spell Chief Seattle). That is fair enough but it still dances right past what are wisdom traditions (besides hatha yoga) where the emphasis put on the physical condition (not even martial arts says body is primary) and who in the heck was talking about 2012 besides the Mayan and Inca some 5000 years ago? Many unanswered questions left with Braden-esqe prose that tastes great but is less filling.
Greggs next to final cameo (applause) is at 59:40 Gregg says we have transcended many of the darkest prophecies already. Oh really? Which ones? Gregg wants to look good here so he brings in the Bible Code and it's 'quantum possibilities' and remote viewing, etc. Gregg says all of these darkest predictions we transcended, not just survived. Gregg says we rewrote the code of consciousness and took a different path. He then says we have to live consciously with intent (one of the few good things he said). Then he goes off into this mamby pamby line that if we are nice and help people in traffic that this helps us play a vital role in where we are going with 2012 and anything beyond that. Wow, that's really nice. Almost like love your neighbor like yourself. (did you catch the half/non-truth capped with the truth at the tail end in this segment?) But Gregg, I lost the point you were trying to make. And I do not take 'prophecies' from the Bible Code or remote viewers as being anything in the same category as prophecies made by native peoples like the Mayan, Hopi, or Inka. This is nice touchy-feely thinking that Gregg offers us. Nothing concrete here, again. Another pattern of bait and switch first offering fluff and then passing off the entire sequence as truth by adding some true statement at the end.
Greggs final appearance (no encore) at 94:03 he calls for our final 2012 prayer to live life fully with conscious intent in kindness to one another. And that we should ask ourselves how we can be of service everyday of our lives. When we wake up what can we do to make this a better world. Wherever we go how can we make that place a better place then when we walked in. Ok Gregg, that is the first somewhat clearly understood thing you have said. If he could stick with what he knows and can explain clearly he would be a much better speaker. But then again I think his following might take a dive.
Folks you can see why I have problems with Gregg as a presenter. He creates mashups of half-facts and strings them together with nice talk. But if you get close enough to what he says, he has said nothing that is unique nor warrants his presumed place as any kind of teacher let alone celebrity. And certainly I do not think you should consider him, or anyone, as an authority on what is going on. The real question that was never clearly stressed is that YOU should consider what does 2012 mean to YOU. Not to some talking heads, regardless of their supposed knowledge in the subject.
There were other people in the film who also made me think they had no idea what they were talking about. But the people I really appreciated were Moira Timms, Jay Weidner, and the Inka. If the film would have spent more time on the Mayan calendar, even included Carl Calleman, and less time in fluff, it could have been a much better peice. Still, it is good that there is a film of the possibilties around 2012. And I agree with the point that it could just be enough to believe that such a global shift is possible in order to allow it to occur.
- A Journey To Our Future Possibilities
     By A37K036KOD5VYI on 2007-08-24
The predictions surrounding the ominous date of December 21st, 2012 are plentiful and often a bit "freaky". This video is a delightful exception! We follow a personal journey of discovery across the USA as Sharron Rose gets in her car in the Northwest forests and ventures cross-country (and across time!) through beautiful scenery and amazing scenarios. Her travels are punctuated with discussions traversing mostly unfamiliar - and FASCINATING - facts and theories based on little known historical artifacts, ancient structures and writings of learned philosophers and religious adventurers. These well-respected scholars and writers enlighten us to The Mysteries that have been "hidden"...which means that they simply have not been included in our mediocre educational system which typically focuses on the generic and mundane. After my first viewing, I immediately watched it again as it was filled with so much new information, I wanted to take more time to both understand these amazing revelations and to let the beauty of the positive options for our collective future presented "sink in". The quality of the film was outstanding and I fell in love with our guide Sharron. Having viewed MANY dvds featuring 2012 possibilities, I say this one is by far the best, especially for those who are just discovering the 2012 "prophecies". If there was ONE dvd on the 2012 phenomena to watch/buy...this is it !
- Excellent documentary
     By AUKQB0EFQH4N3 on 2008-02-17
2012 The Odyssey is a very informative and inspiring film. The interviews are excellent and gave me much food for thought. It is a film that can be watched and savoured many times. I was taken with the director's journey to discover the prophecies around the year 2012 and her deep concern over what is happening socially, environmentally and psychologically. Are we reaching the end of time? I don't know but this film is certainly a wake up call.
- Good Info
     By A366E44HZRTV8U on 2008-05-12
Good information, I've heard a lot of info about 2012, the first time I heard was from the PSYCH-K book that said a computer model at MIT showed that great human discoveries go off the chart at none other than the year 2012, same year that the Mayan calendar stops. So I've been interested in learning more. This video does a good job of putting out some information but I kinda felt like I was left hanging to some degree. It hit a lot of different things from different angles and I just had an overall lack of flow feel to it.
I had never heard about the landmark down in Georgia and found that interesting but could see no connection to 2012 with it. I think the interview with Gregg Braden was one of the better parts and I agree with him that the 2012 marks the start of a new beginning and we're going through the change right now.
Don't let my low 3 star rating keep you from viewing the DVD, I have no regrets in watching it, it's just not the higher quality product I would give a higher star rating.
- Excellent for those new to the subject
     By A3MBN4XHTXHHWD on 2008-06-05
There is no point in me repeating the details of what is contained in this documentary. Some of the other reviewers have covered that quite well. My only contribution here would be in the form of a recommendation. I would recommend this film to anyone who is new to the subject of the Mayan calendar end-date of December 21,2012. It is a good introduction to the subject and the people who are interviewed (Gregg Braden, Geoff Stray, Jose Arguelles, John Major Jenkins, etc)are among the most knowledgeable - and, in my opinion, among the most credible - researchers on this topic.
