  • Great Card for Price

    By A1IW1PPJJ76UEQ on 2007-09-12
After much research I chose the card because the price was good and it is fully compatible with VISTA. I play Titan Quest and my onboard Nvidia would only play on the lowest game settings. With this card I can play at the highest settings and with no load on my CPU. This card was a breeze to install as VISTA has drivers built in. You will however want to load the latest drivers from Nvidia.

  • Great Video card for the money

I had a GeForce 6600 and bought Call of Duty 4 The game ran but would freeze after 30+ minutes of play time. The Geforce 6600 was being maxed out buy the call of duty 4 game. I upgraded to The GeForce 8500Gt and the game now runs great no more freezing and the graphics are the best ever. Its not the best card out there but its the best bang for the buck I have no regreats buying this card I almost got the GeForce 8400 gs and it was $20.00 more than I got the 8500 Gt for thru amazon. Amazon rocks they have some of the best deals around.

  • Great card!

Hey, for around $100 you can't go wrong with this card. It's not a top of the line card, but it does alot of things really really well. It improved the graphics on alot of my games and i didn't even change any of the settings. You can't go wrong with this Directx 10 compatible card!

  • Not good for BD playback...yet.

    By A1N2VLFUZDYURA on 2007-06-03
I bought this board a week ago. I spent almost three days researching for an affordable H.264 hardware decoder graphic board to play a Blu-Ray disc (BD). I have a Vaio desktop VGC-RC310G that comes with a Blu-Ray disk drive. Unfortunately, Sony packed a GeForce 7600GT graphic board (TurboCache??? Come on, Sony...) that doesn't have hardware decoding for H.264. So, it does play slow, not good at all to watch a movie. The nVidia sells a "PureVideo Technology" software that is supposed to "release partially" the hardware decoding on Series 7 of nVidia's boards. I downloaded the trial version and it didn't make any difference. I checked the numbers at the Windows processor performance meter and it was all the way close to 100% of processor usage when playing BD.

I ran WinDVD to play the BD-movie and... it didn't. The options for hardware acceleration were there (color and graphic), available at WinDVD. However, every time I reached the DVD main menu, an error message popped-up saying "WinDVD MFC... error". After clicking "OK", WinDVD closed. I took the disc out of the driver, changed WinDVD setup to disable the hardware acceleration. Put the disc back and I was able to watch the movie... slow, as before.

I couldn't believe that. I browsed the Internet looking for information about the WinDVD MFC error and, in the end, I was at nVidia website. At the link saying about the features of a "perfect" HD-DVD or BD-DVD player computer, I was shocked when I read that GeForce 8500 and 8600 are not supported (yet) by WinDVD. The only option available was an specific version of the PowerDVD, from Cyberlink. So, the hardware acceleration feature of my 8500GT is useless, unless I am willing to spend another 100 dollars buying a new software.

I wanted to tell you, guys, this saga just to help others to not fall into this BD-DVD thing. At least not right now. I feel myself like when I bought my first laptop with a DVD drive. I couldn't play a DVD movie there since my hardware (that is, my graphic board) didn't have any support for video playback. It's awful that we, costumers, are carried out to believe that something in the market (BD-DVD playback) works, when actually it does not. Unless you have 600 dollars to spend in a "muscle card" like 8800's boards.

So, if you want to play BD-DVD in your computer for a reasonal price, forget it. It's not ready yet. As that Kurosawa's character says "MADADAYO"...

I was looking for a quality video card to drive my new 22" widescreen monitor and render graphics for pc video games. This card performs well and does not require extra power supply - it simply plugs into the PCIe slot and configures easily with the supplied software.

  • Great Video Card
    By A2KSEUH19JGVZ6 on 2008-01-20
I just bought a 24" monitor recently, and this card with its DVI connection is truly the item that tops it off. DVD's like I have never seen before. It also has the power for HD or BluRay. It only requires a 300w power source, which my HP has. I just love this setup. I had a nVidia 6150e in my HP. This is a five minute changeout. Just add the card, and hook up the cable. Run the drivers, and you are in.

  • Not that great of a card for much other than basic use, or watching HD content...
    By A3VBVORJ38FPOU on 2008-05-02
Well, I purchased this card as an upgrade from my EAX300 video card, which had 128MB of DDR Memory, and a 64-bit memory interface. I was expecting quite an improvement over that card, however was less than impressed. I have a program on my computer called Real Desktop, and what it does is make your desktop 3-d. This performed alright on my EAX300, but I was hoping with my upgrade it would be better. I was wrong. It was choppier than ever, to the point I couldn't even use it. Then, tried playing a game, (Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas) which as an older game, has pretty low requirements. I know this isn't a gaming card, but I did expect somewhat of an increase in performance. Anyway, this is how it went down. On low settings, this card was comparable to my EAX300, and to be honest, my EAX300 did better, getting framerates around 55-65fps average, and going as high as 80-85fps in low detail areas. This card however got an average of around 35-45fps, and only went to about 55-60fps in low detail areas. Definitely not an improvement. However, with all settings turned up, and 3x anti-aliasing, my EAX300 would stay around 1-10fps, while this card would get about 30-40fps. So in high settings it faired better than the EAX300, but with low settings it did worse. I will admit, this card played HD content with ease, compared to my EAX300. Sometimes my EAX300 would freeze up on HD content if you tried to skip it ahead, and then wouldn't play, and you'd have to restart. This normally meant I couldn't fast-forward through it, or I'd have to restart the entire film. However, with this card, I was able to skip through, and my HD experience was much better than before. So if you don't play alot of games, and don't have many 3-d apps you use, this could be a good card for you. If you plan on playing games, or have a favorite 3-d app, you might not like it so much. One thing that is my fault is that I knew I shouldn't get a card with DDR2, but I decided to anyway, and it got very hot, just as I knew it would, and performed half as good, if that, as DDR3 memory. Guess it's up to what you'll use the card for, but it wasn't for me.

  • Excelent card for a low price!
    By AN92AQ65HXPJ3 on 2008-03-02
This is a great card, plays all games fast! Including Unreal 3 with high graphic detail! I'm amazed! I love it!

  • Best Bang for Bucks
    By A1IQPP8PU55FMV on 2008-06-07
If you've a pre-built HP Pavilion or a Dell this is a great card for it's price.

You don't need to replace the power supply to install it and it fits the PCIx16 in the Pavilion.

Vista drivers work with no problem and the cd drivers really improve performance of the card.

The graphics improvement is noticable, very noticable over the integrated crap graphic chipset. Mass Effect for the PC is a completely new game with this card.

For $60 with no new power supply you just can't beat this card.

  • A perfect item
    By A3H14KTO5BNW7G on 2008-08-17
I bought this because the orange box games would crash using my integrated intel card, which was the weak point in my otherwise well equipped system. The card costs NOTHING considering what you get. It installed easily and I can now run anything I care to at the highest settings with unvarying smoothness. Almost any computer should have enough wattage to support it so you won't have to mess around with, god forbid, extra power cables, and the built in fan is more than up to the job.

The card comes with a color adjustment test in the settings panel. I tried it, and it gave me bad advice on the brightness, but once I cranked that back up I was astonished at how much better everything looked. Even icons have a warmth and 'pop' I couldn't have imagined before. No computer component has a lot of 'long term value' if that means running bleeding edge graphics in two to three years, whatever you may hear. This gets the job done now and a five hundred dollar card won't stay current all that much longer than it. I can't recommend this strongly enough.

  • Excellent upgrade for the money...
    By A3B5RT45RLT9LJ on 2008-03-22
I'm not a gamer so I can't give details about that..however, I purchased this card to upgrade the video on a 22" widescreen monitor and 'Wow' is the word to use. The DVD and TV playback through a DVI connection gives an excellent quality picture and Windows Vista Aero is simply stunning. The fan on the card is quiet and installation was easy with the updated drivers downloaded from the NVIDIA site. This card exceeded my expectations.

  • NOT GREAT FOR FSX
    By AARAC6BQ6KV1E on 2008-04-02
hey this is a good graphics card but not if you are playing hardcore PC games. i got mine for flight simulator x and it still cant be played on high settings. its great for the price but if i could do it again i would save up a little more and go with either a GeForce 7900 with 512MB or a GeForce 8800 with 512 mb, you'll be happier!

  • Works Great, Great Price
    By A15U8KHV4J5DIK on 2008-04-06
This product has been working great for me and it is pretty inexpensive comapared to other products of similar quality. I mostly use this to run World of Warcraft and once in awhile FPS games like Bio Shock and it has worked great on all of them.

Without the video card I was running the games at near the lowest setting in order to not have a bad framerate and now I am able to run them at near max setting with a high framerate. Very happy with the purchase.

  • Very good.
    By A1ZPOKDD2T0PQM on 2008-06-17
First and foremost, I have a Vista operating system. I picked up the GeForce FX5200 last year in order to clone my screen. That card was terrible. My screen would flicker and my audio would crackle when I scrolled down pages. I was desperate for a replacement, but I didn't want to spend too much being that my needs are fairly basic. I picked up this card about two weeks ago. I had an initial scare because my system wouldn't turn on after installation. After removing the prior video driver and maximizing the power settings, the problem was solved. My computer now performs much better. My Vista rating went from 2.5 to 5.9. The colors look crisp and vibrant and I have no issues whatsoever with flickering. For $60, you can't go wrong. My faith in PNY has been restored.

  • Great Upgrade For Older Rigs
    By A2LSZCMHD0GEUH on 2008-06-20
I just got this last night and it made a huge difference in my gaming and video editing. I was using a 256mb ATI X700 Pro which in its day (2004-5) was a decent card. But eventually games started to get more advanced and I figured I would upgrade but I didn't want to spend over 100 bucks because I am just a casual gamer. So I bought the GeForce 8500GT and it rocks, my desktop looks so much better, colors are more vivid, the games I do play now can be played at MAX or medium settings, with the X700 most of my newer games was at the low end range. Installation was easy, I took my old card out, put the new card in, turned it on, loaded drivers, rebooted, presto, instant graphical betterment! I recommend this card to any casual gamer or to someone with an older system from 3 or more years ago. Its a solid card and the price is perfect for casual gamers like me.

  • Great Card!
    By A23U9H2XCV0NGK on 2008-06-26
I have had this graphics card for a week now and it is working beautifuly. I used to play World of Warcraft, and it ran fine with my old graphics card that came with my computer, i hardly ever lagged. Recently i bought Age of Conan, when i first played i lagged tremendously. I had about 1-2 fps, so it wasnt even worth playing. With this card, i do not lag at all, my normal fps is between 26-30, so i am extremely happy with this card, it has worked wonders. The price is also great because the recomended card for AoC was $40 more D=.

  • Amazing Video Card
    By A3707TCC5Y9FES on 2008-06-27
I bougth this video card for my PC to improve my graphics, but this is really more than I expected. It runs games like NFSU2, AOEIII, and other very fast. It has improved my system performance a lot. I'm really pleased with this video card, and the price is very good. I recomend it to anyone who wants to have a good video card for low price. Surely you won't be disappointed.

  • Decent replacement card if you want Dual Monitors
    By A29Y85LOFTA02O on 2007-11-25
Bought this to bring dual-monitor capability to a new HP Quad Core system. I thought it may bring increased system performance due to the standard included card shared memory. I was disappointed to see virtually no performance gain but still happy to now have dual monitor capability.

  • Excellent inexpensive card
    By AQNMWM437S01T on 2008-03-24
Very easy to install. Seems to perform well and cheaper than most other comparable cards.

PNY has an updated driver online but it can also be downloaded via Window Update program.

  • Great Card!
    By A3VSL4IZZREIB4 on 2008-04-23
This is a great upgrade for the money! I replaced a 128 ati with this and it mad a world of difference. The minor gaming I do with my pc, you could see the difference in the games, thing flowed much smoother. I am very happy with the card and would recomend it all day long.

  • If you want a cheap dual monitor setup... this will get the jon done..

It was easy to setup and works great.. I don't know about games.. I don't play much...

  • Great Video Card

Works great in Linux Ubuntu and Windows Vista. Powers two 17" crt's at most usable resolutions, doesn't flicker, inexpensive, looks great and installed easily. PNY Verto GeForce 8500GT 512MB Video Card

  • Fantastic value... easy to set-up
    By AB0HIBC34CIJE on 2008-09-21
This card is excellent, it completely blew away my expectations and as such I'm now looking at how I can do more through my PC onto my 42" plasma. Both the DVI and the VGA port work great and give you a ton of flexibility. I was going to use the DVI port but instead found the resolutions supported and the software made the VGA as good so why waste a HDMI port.... I've coupled this with a Diamond soundcard and love both of them. I'm not using the PC for games but for photos and DVD's I couldn't be happier.

Set-up was very easy. The only minor downside is make sure you have the room in your machine. It's a full size card and is quite big. So make sure you check dimensions first.

All is all a very happy user..

  • Unreliable video card - avoid it
    By A3TRS1KBF2RAZ5 on 2008-11-01
Bought this video card some 3 months ago to replace the existing card on my Dell PC. The fan on the card started to make noise two weeks ago. The noise level got worse over time. Finally, it became unberable so I took it off my PC. Tried to contact the manufacturer without success. An inexpensive card but unreliable - avoid it.

PNY Verto GeForce 8500GT 512MB Video Card
with the low price at Amazon, you can't go wrong with a 512MB Nvidia card.
Low price, uses DX10, easy to install, plenty of memory, great graphics.

  • A very good deal
    By A10FQYI4KRC3SD on 2008-03-02
I bought a prefab computer about a month ago and naturally had to upgrade it. The biggest flaw I noticed was a terribly sluggish graphics card and went looking. A friend of mine swore by the 8800GTS but I wasn't willing to cough up that much cash ($300+)to play games that didn't require that much power, and ended up finding the 8500GT for $80 at my local electronics store.

Installation was a breeze, my video players don't get sluggish with high-def video anymore, and it absolutely loves working with Vista. For the price, you really can't go wrong unless you're really looking for the higest performance, in which I'd recommend something a bit higher up in the NVIDIA catalog.

  • great video card
    By A1INA1U05CV6U9 on 2008-04-07
got that video card, install was a breeze, it runs good, and the price from amazon is also. can only recomend it. has all the options, i don't use them all, but there is SLI option, overclocking etc.

  • Economical and efficient
    By A2CNF7PSHRL78B on 2008-04-21
Best bang for the buck. Inexpensive and handles very well. No problems that I have had whatsoever and even overclocks nicely.

  • love it.

i'm very happpy, even more than with my ATI Radeon X1600 Pro 512 MB PCI Express. The best thing in this pny verto video card, is the price, and the option of precise resolution setup.
