Best Price: $49.98 $32.26

After barely making it out of the Forest of Death, Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura proceed to the next stage of the Chunin Exam: a one-on-one sudden death elimination battle!Pitted against each other in individual combat, an assortment of young, bright-eyed ninja reveal their true colors and brandish their hidden powers! Can Naruto beat the odds and prove to his fellow shinobi that he's good enough to be a chunin?Comes with a collectible Naruto storyboards booklet.325 minutes (14 episodes)Audio: English, JapaneseSubtitles: English

The second season of Naruto continues as the next phase of the Chunin exams begins: individual combat among the surviving candidates. Kakashi-sensei seals the curse mark Orochimaru set on Sasuke's neck, but its effect on the talented young ninja remains uncertain. Naruto beats his opponent using decidedly unconventional means: only everyone's favorite knucklehead could turn an attack of flatulence into a jutsu. As the matches progress, the focus shifts from Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura to the secondary characters Hinata and Rock Lee. The offspring of a great ninja clan, Hinata seems too timid to live up to the family tradition of violence, but she fights valiantly against her cousin Neiji. Rock Lee has no talent for the magical jutsu the other students employ, so he's trained himself mercilessly in physical techniques. He's pitted against Gara, the icy trainee who fights with clouds of enchanted sand. Lee and Hinata overtax their resources but demonstrate true ninja spirit--and win the respect of Naruto and Sakura. The struggles of the secondary characters add some emotional depth to the inevitably repetitious fight scenes. The season ends on multiple cliffhangers, with Lee and Sasuke in the hospital and Naruto beginning a grueling training regimen with a new sensei to prepare for the final Chunin combat. (Rated T+ Older Teen; suitable for ages 12 and older: violence, toilet humor) --Charles Solomon MPN: GKW20360 - UPC: 782009236641

  • Don't get the Urge

    By ADZ18FUDH34T1 on 2007-06-29
As a new viewer to naturo I purchased all three uncut english version sets with the idea of watching them over time. Bad move. I watched the entire three sets in two days. I would have watched them in one day but work got in the way. We all know this is one of the most outstanding Anime series and the question of "in original language" or English dubbed is an interesting one. "The Urge" commented in his review that things where missing and not the same between the two versions. Not having seen the Japanese original language version he could be right; however, the examples he gave about the "sexy-Jutsu" and Sauske/naruto being edited out was untrue. It's all there. The rest, well I don't know. I'm hoping the term "uncut" means it is as close to the original as possible in a language change. That would be true if in subtitles or dubbed. Bottom line is it's a great series in English and if it's better in Japanese so be it. There are a lot of Animes out there and most certainly are not that good. So when one comes along that is terrific, such as Naruto, enjoy it in whatever language you can enjoy the most.
    Better Believe It.

  • It keeps getting better

    By ABHN5SGREFIT5 on 2007-06-07
As an owner of the previous three volumes, i have come to realize that Naruto keeps getting better as the episodes go on. Think about it, the first volume just showed them struggle as pathetic ninja. The second volume shows them mature a little enough to survive their first mission and the first part of the chunin exam. And now the third volume shows them grow huge bounds as each character grows greatly from the first episode. and it is only going to get better as the four volume features the ten fights of the preliminary round of the third part of the chunin exams. Most of the fights are intriguing, especially the one between rock lee and that wierd ude with the sand thing on his back. This volume looks to be the best yet, and it will only get better. My only wish is that they would release these uncut volumes faster because this show is very addicting.

  • Just gets better

This is one anime series that deserves all of the over hyped praise it can possibly get. I can't think of one bad thing about this series so far. If you never seen Naruto ever. Leave this section and pick up vol.1. You will definitly be confused. Now for all the Naruto fans. This one continues the chunin exam in the form of a tournament now. Its not just die hard fighting, which you get alot of. But alot of background is given on most of the characters. Even the ones who are destined to lose. A brief encounter takes place between Kikashi and Orochi.

Alot of skills are displayed in this volume. To include there is a small dose of comedy, but it doesn't lose its serious tone at all. This volume contains 14 episodes. Episodes 39-52. And it also has the sneak peak for vol. 5. Those who are not catching Naruto regularly are going to have to suffer for a few months until vol. 5 drops in Dec.

  • The entire Naruto series thus far.

If you're undecided on purchasing this box set, then let me help. I have seen 239 episodes of Naruto so far, and the series is worth it(aside from some embarrasing filler episodes, but let's not go there.) The story only gets better as the episodes go by. The only thing I want to add is this; since there are already 15+ box sets worth of episodes, you might want to wait for the price to drop a bit, unless you're loaded or pure-blood otaku.

  • Different versions?

    By A5C2USLTK8ELB on 2007-06-01
Anyone takeing the time to read the reviews already knows that Naruto is a great cartoon. That's why you're looking it up-either someone told you about it or you've actually watched the cartoon and like it enough to want to buy it. I am in the second category. So why did I give Naruto a 3 out 5 star rating? Simple. The english version sucks. Although I have not seen this particular version for sale as it has not yet come out, the product description listed on volume 4 says that the languge is in english and the product description for the previous volume 3 says that the languge is in Japanese(dubbed) So take your chances when it comes out I guess? Anyways. what's the big deal right? So what if it's in english? I can understand it better right? Well yes and no. Since I obviously can't compare both versions at the moment, I am assuming that they may use the Cartoon Network english version. The biggest difference between the 2 versions is that the japanese version is alot funnier, deeper, less corny, and makes more sense, but most importantly doesn't change anything to make the cartoon more western friendly or easier to understand. For example, in the early episodes, they cut out all the hilarious stuff like when Naruto kisses Sauske. In the english cartoon network version they do some editing to allude to the kiss instead of actually showing it. Of course, most of Naruto's "Sexy-Jutsu," gets edited out as well. There's so many changes and edits to make it western firendly that the enlish version loses a lot of the goof type comedy and way too much of the emotional draw that the japanese version has. One of the best things that the Naruto series does is convey the self-sacrifice type heroisim well. Most japanese cartoons that I've seen are not able to bring that feeling over-most of the time it comes across as non-sensical, overly dramatic, and gets lost in translation somehow. The japanses version brings the feeling across better with a combination of better voice acting, dialoge, and visual organization/editing. Take for example the recent episode on Cartoon Network. Naruto is in the second stage of learning the Rasengan attack. He trys to get the perverted hermit to stay and train him, then throws the rubber ball at him in frustration. In the japanese version, the perverted hermit shouts "KA KA KA KA! Strike!" In the english version, they edit out the first "KA KA KA KA!" and just rerun the "STRIKE!" followed by the fakest Naruto laugh. You stay with Naruto and understand why he's laughing in the Japense version. The english version of this scene is just one of the many examples of bad acting and bad editing that made a funny scene flat.

There are better examples of both the goofy moments and the emotional ones, but I don't want to spoil it for those of you who haven't watched them yet. As other people have said, later on around episode 200 or so they start the Hurrican Chronicles and the series starts to get really good. Hopefully they release the Japanese version in the U.S. or you have a friend in Japan that is a fan and will send it to you.

  • BELIEVE IT!!!

This is an absolutely wonderful series. You'll love it. Boxed set 4 picks up right where 3 left off. The cases always have great pictures on them, this one's no exception. My favorite is the one on the back that has Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura on it together.

14 episodes and special features. Here's the episodes for you.

---Disc 3 also has the special features---
    -Shonen Jump Home Video
    -English Credits
-Volume 5 Sneak Preview (;-) I love the sneak previews)
-From Sketch to Screen: Storyboard Comparison on Episode 40
    -Production Art

As with the other boxed sets you can watch in Japanese with english subtitles-if you're one of them purists who wants to see it that way-, or you can watch it in english, and you can still have the english subtitles if you want-up to you. I like to put the subtitles on during the opening and closing theme songs so I can see what the words to the songs are-good songs-.

This entire boxed set covers the preliminary rounds, until the last episode and a half, where the rounds are over and you find out what everyone has to do for the final round of the Chunin Exam. You learn a lot about all the different talents of the ninja-it's great.

Starts off finishing Sasuke's match versus the one guy from Kabuto's group-who is actually a sound ninja spy for Orochimaru-,
    then you have
-Shino(one of the rookies) vs. Zaku-from the Sound village,
-Sakura vs. Ino (Hopefully you know who both of them are :~/ )
-Tarmari (female sand ninja) vs. Ten-Ten (female from Rock Lee and Nenji's group)
-Shikamaru (rookie) vs. Kein(female sound ninja)
    -Kiba vs. Naruto -smiley face-
-Hinata Hyuga vs. Nenji Hyuga (they're cousins)
-Gaara of the Desert(you have to know who he is by now) vs. Rock Lee (This is a wonderful fight!!!)
-Choji vs. the other sound ninja guy, can't remember his name, the guy who hits you with sound waves from the thing on his arm.

I won't tell you who wins them all, you'll just have to watch and find out. It's good though, you'll be on h edge of your seat every battle.

So far there is an average of 13 episodes per boxed set. Not too bad, but seeing as there are 250 episodes released in Japan already-or some number near that- try to buy it on sale. I've said this in other reviews too. BUY THEM ON SALE!!! unless you're rich and it doesn't matter, and if you are picture someone sticking there tongue out at you because they're annoyed---it's me---. I pre-ordered box 5 while it was 15 dollars off or so over labor day weekend. Try doing something like that.

  • Some of the best animated action ever made...
    By A3GIO0YY94R7A0 on 2008-01-03
Forget DBZ... THIS right here is some of the best animated action ever made. Volume 4 really kicks the action up a notch, and gives fans a REAL chance to fall in love with other characters. Volume 4 takes the route of holding a tournement between the young shinobi, and what a tournement it is. Meshing action, humour and intense drama into one perfect ball, this box set is not one to be missed by Naruto fans.

Containing, easily, the best fight of the series so far in Rock Lee VS Gaara of the Sand... I guarantee you, action fans, you're gonna love this. Rock Lee comes out and in the span of 4 episodes becomes one of everyone's favourite characters. Forget Rocky, Rock Lee is the greatest underdog you'll ever watch.

    Two Thumbs up!

  • Another set to purchase.
    By AI8EMB0HUC6Z5 on 2007-10-16
I love the Naruto series but wish these DVDs would come out faster. My nephew watches 'em online in japanese with english subtitles. He's up to episode 150 or so and has lost all interest in the disks. Meanwhile, we're waiting for the next box set that might take us to episode 66 or so. I think they hold 'em back while cartoon network grinds slowly through the episodes.

On the bright side, the DVDs have english dubbing for those days when you don't want to read subtitles.

Regardless, I'll watch the episodes on line, forget cartoon network with those horrible graphics occluding so much of the screen, and probably buy the DVDs after the initial price drop.

  • series picks up
    By A1LT46RU338O1D on 2007-09-02
this is the set where the series really starts to get intense if you thought that the forest of Death was sweet wait till you see the preliminary rounds the end of Saskue's battle is nothing compared to what is coming in this set all I have to say is Gaara vs Rock Lee the dubbing on this series is ok i get annoyed with the way they say somethings like paper bomb instead of explosive tag like in the jap version or the way they say chakra but i have got used to that, being a fan of the series and manga since it started in japan I still give these english sets a buy because if you really can't take the dubbing then these sets come with the subbed versions of the series and they are so close to the fan subs it is really nice. The only thing that bothers me is the lack of special features there are practically none and these sets cost more then say Heroes which has tons of special features or Smallville and all the other tv series we get here tons of special features. So you should still buy these sets they are worth it even without the special features.
