  • Pretty good

    By A30WTHZH3FH1PF on 2007-09-24
This skin was pretty good - the silicone is very high quality and feels quite nice to the touch. I usually rub it just for fun. As other people have mentioned though, the edges don't fit perfectly but that hasn't caused any problems for me. The cover stays on perfectly and keeps everything underneath very clean. I picked up the cover edges just to check - it looks like some lint does accumulate around the edges of the cover, but it sticks to the silicone and not on your mac. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied.

Cons: the touchpad is exposed so this may cause some problems if you had a major spill?
The letters don't match up 100% to the keyboard letters so if you get a white cover, you an actually see a faint outline of the keyboard letters through the cover. This is more of a problem with the caps lock where the green light doesn't match the dot on the cover either (this is definitely only a problem for crazy people like me)

This cover does make it a little more difficult to type. When I first got it, I had to push much harder to get the keys down and the silicone seemed to go down only in the middle of the key, leaving a puckered rim of silicone around the edges of the key. This means that you have to push harder, type slower, and hit the key exactly in the middle. This greatly annoyed me when I first got the cover, but over time the silicone gets softer (or maybe I just got used to it?) Regardless, with this cover, you definitely sacrifice some speed and ease of typing for protection. For me, it was definitely worth it though since I have a white Macbook that really gets nasty without a cover (especially in the palm rest area.)

My fingers I guess are grimy so when I close the Macbook, I get oily outlines of the edges of the keys on the screen once in a while. This means that the keys actually touch the screen but I've been able to deal with this with only a very occasional screen cleaning. I am concerned though that an edge of the raised portion of the "click" below the touch pad seems to touch the camera on the top of the Macbook. This so far has caused no problems for me though.

  • Keyboard skin = Ventilation Blocke

    By A23YJDEXJ0LBU0 on 2007-12-24
I purchased this after I had had my MacBook for a little less than a week. I wanted something that would keep cat hair, crumbs and assorted junk from falling into the keyboard.
After it arrived I installed it as instructed. After 30 minutes, the keyboard skin became very warm to the touch and the vent fan started up very loudly. I then removed the skin for a short time, as I was doing some processor intensive work. I tried it again when I was just doing word processing - the fan started up and the keyboard skin became very warm almost immediately.
Without the skin my MacBook runs fairly cool(for a laptop) and the fan only runs occasionally. With the skin the book gets very hot. I've asked at the Mac store and at another Mac reseller about this and they say not to worry about overheating or putting anything on the keyboard - Directly contrary to what Apple writes in the instruction manual for all its laptops. So, I'm out $15 because I didn't RTFM - my bad, but maybe this will save someone else $15. (As much as I would like to return the item, it's just too much trouble and it does work well protecting the keyboard and screen when the laptop is off and in the briefcase.)

  • great skin, very attractive

    By A2NEB5S6YB3XJH on 2007-08-10
This is a great product. I have the white skin and am using it on a white Macbook; the skin doesn't look superfluous or intrusive at all and maintains the sleek white beauty of the laptop. It's made of a durable rubbery material and fits neatly over the keys and handrest area of the keyboard surface. This will be very useful in protecting my laptop from dust and finger oils; the white Macbooks can get pretty nasty-looking after a while.

The only thing is that the edges of this skin don't line up perfectly with the edges of the Macbook, but this is only a slight problem and does not really detract from the value of the product. The laptop still closes as it would have. Definitely recommended.

  • Interesting product

    By A38P70PL9NG4Q7 on 2007-09-26
This product arrived quickly and it does what it says. Apart from the skin lifting when you rest your wrists on it, I give it thumbs up.

  • WARNING: PLASTIC WILL STAIN YOUR MACBOOK

    By A2HGBLCOUQCSB6 on 2008-05-24
I wrote a review previously, praising this product. After about a month or so of using the Rasfox Macbook skin, I made a recent discovery to prompt me to write this followup review.

I took the skin off to wash it and discovered that the plastic has somewhat reacted to the surface of my macbook. This could be because the machine does generate a small but insignificant amount of heat. Nevertheless, whatever material they choose to make this with should go through some sort of temperature testing before being sold for use. The material is sticky and after wiping it off with a damp cloth and water, the stickyness is gone but has left behind patches of lighter areas. It looks like what it would if you touched your macbook with greasy hands- only, it's there for good. I am REALLY annoyed about this because I purchased this product to protect my investment and it has done the opposite of what it's designed to do.

  • Excellent protection for your keyboard
    By A2LXX47A0KMJVX on 2008-10-28
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RQD2EZYH7JZWS The Rasfox MacBook Keyboard Shield is awesome. It fits perfectly over the keys of the keyboard and keeps junk out of your keyboard. I love this thing.

UPDATE: Nov 5, 2008. Now that I've had this a couple weeks, I wanted to update my review by saying that it has taken longer than I had hoped to get used to the keyboard action with the Rasfox protector on. I get a lot of typos because the outer edges of each key remain sort of stiff when you are pressing the center of the key you are trying to hit. This feels weird under your fingers and really does slow you down. I'm not so sure it's really the "fault" of Rasfox since there really aren't too many options if you are trying to create a silicon cover for the keyboard and still expect people to type on it. In other words, I think this is just a limitation of -any- keyboard protector. I still feel this is a valuable product but it definitely messes with your typing speed and accuracy. As I said in the video, if you really want to type fast, just remove the protector. For less critical times, leave it on and know that your keyboard is being protected. I would not feel comfortable not having it on my keyboard now that I own one...but I do remove it from time to time so I can type more accurately.

  • Not perfect, but good enough
    By A36NTWRP3JKNLT on 2007-09-08
The good: This looks great on my macbook. And it's wonderful not having to worry about getting stains on or things stuck inside the keyboard.

The fit on the edges aern't perfect, but are well enough. I was also pretty satisfied with how it aligned with the keys themselves; however, when you type, sometimes the rubber will pop up in areas, so it may feel like you are pressing down on something twice. You may have to punch down slightly harder than usual, and of course it may feel a bit strange at first, but with time you should get used to it. It's good enough for me (I've heard it was worser on some other brands) and was actually better than I expected.

The material is a somewhat thin, floppy, rubbery material. If you spill a drink on the keyboard it should be mostly protected-- though the touchpad area is cut out and exposed. The feel is nice and smooth, so you can rub your fingers and wrist over the material and not have to worry about friction or feeling as if your fingers are sticky.

HOWEVER, the only negative thing I have to say so far: Because of the thick material and the feature of no keyboard gaps exposed, it is harder for air to escape (the laptop releases air from the keyboard gaps) and your laptop may warm up more than usual. Though my keyboard does heat up even without the cover, it felt slightly hotter. Though because this will probably happen with any similar keyboard protective cover, I will still recommend this product. Even if not used 24/7, it's still a great thing to have around when eating or letting other people play around with your macbook ;)

  • Very good protection for your white macbook
    By A3BRIMLS76CT9O on 2007-12-06
this product hides the nasty marks you make with the palms of your hands on any white macbook (didn't they thought about sweaty palms???). typing using this product might be a bit difficult at the beginning, but one quickly gets used to it. would definitely buy a replacement when the time comes.

  • Incompatability with Mac cases
    By A1N84Z8UAA0Y11 on 2008-06-16
I'm sure this keyboard skin would have been great. However, all our company's MacBooks currently have Speck cases on them, and this skin would not fit correctly with that case on there. So beware, if you have a Speck case, or possibly another type of case, this will probably not fit right on your computer.

  • Works, makes you feel safe and at ease
    By A3WL8EFBZKRDW on 2007-09-01
I was very worried the first day I got my Macbook about stuff getting in between the keys. As soon as this skin arrived, it as all good! Protects well and is easy to type with. Actually feels nice on your fingers. Does not move and fits well. The other day at Panera I spilled a bit of coffee and voila, this skin saved the macbook. For the peace of mind, the price is WELL WORTH IT. Best Wishes.

  • Satisfied
    By A3M23600OR1V5M on 2008-01-15
I bought the white cover (which I don't see listed now) and it arrived quickly in a package nearly beat to death. No damage, but I think the packaging could be better. Keyboard skins take a bit of acclimation to regain your typing speed and accuracy, and this one is no exception. However, if you eat and drink near your laptop, this is a must have. The fit is good; however, the touch pad surface is completely exposed (not the button), so a liquid spill may still cause damage. The other issue is screen imprinting when the lid is closed. This is less of an issue once the key covers have "settled in." I'd recommend a thin cover over the keys, or removing this product, when closing the lid. This skin also prevents discoloration if you rest your palms on the surfaces adjacent the trackpad. Also, the longer it's on, the better it fits.

  • Loved it until it destroyed my keyboard.
    By AIJVENSSJRIWU on 2008-02-07
I ordered this right when I ordered my macbook because I wanted to keep it looking perfect. When it got here and I put it on, I LOVED it, the feel was great and I didn't have to worry about cleaning my keyboard.

A couple months later, I take a look underneath only to find that it has SCORCHED my keyboard, leaving brown stains all over it that will NOT come off.

    It's really bummed me out.

  • chose wisely or be lucky
    By A1WZAPQ494U195 on 2008-06-09
I changed keyboard skins twice. Initially I purchased two, black for my wife's black MacBook and a clear one for my white MacBook. I did not know they were both made up of different materials. Black one, is not see through, but for some reason did not stretch and make a popping sound like my clear one did. So on one had I had a nice clear cover, with which I can see the Cap Lock light on, on the other it popped with each key. The popping sound started to annoy me; it sounded like it was being suctioned and let loose with each keystroke. So I purchased a white one. White one looks good, it's not transparent (but you can still see the green Cap Lock light), it doesn't make the popping sound, but the F-keys are not in order. So if you're planning on purchasing a white one I suggest you to have your F-key functions memorized- e.g. F5=Volume up, etc.

  • Change of Skin
    By A27PBN9DCNXMAY on 2007-11-12
The skin, at least in blue, is see through so you don't have to worry about letters being worn off. This skin really fits well; every space is covered. I haven't noticed my computer overheated more often with it on but if you're worried about that then you might want to invest in a cooler pad as well. The only problem I've had so far is when it comes to cleaning the skin, its great I can wash it in the sink but when I want to dry it off I'm always left with little fuzzies from the towel. It may just have to air dry. Other wise I definitely recommend this, it has saved so much gunk from getting into my computer I'm pleased.

  • If I were you I'd buy it!
    By A2QF9KKR25GD1Z on 2007-12-10
I love it! I purchased my cover around a month ago, the same time that I ordered my mac. I had used a friends computer before and decided it definitely needed some protection. It fits perfectly over the keys and opening for the touch pad and as an extra bonus covers the edge of the computer which I found very sharp on my arms after a little while. I have taken it off twice to clean off dust and such and it rinses clean dries totally over night and went right back on the next morning. I think every mac owner should have one!! I am also in love with the blue color of mine. Adds a little something extra

  • Effective against Afghanistan dust
    By A1S22QAHY75VAY on 2007-12-28
This was purchased for my son in Afghanistan. He reports it "fits like a glove" and solved the problem of dust.

  • Great idea on paper, implementation is alright
    By A28SFX5THBTB3O on 2007-12-30
I made sure this came in the mail before my new Macbook because I wanted to keep my new laptop in pristine condition.

The fit is very nice, looks pretty much exactly like the keys it's protecting. I haven't run into any issues thus far, short of the skin makes it a little harder for me to find the keys and type, but I'm hoping that's just a matter of re-training myself to compensate for the feel of the skin.

All in all, $15 to protect your investment is a non-issue. If you have a MacBook, buy this now.

  • Great item
    By A2Q32A1JVK0AGZ on 2008-01-20
Excellent item. The skin basically sits right on top of your keyboard. As the saying goes, "Like a glove", is fitting. It doesn't take away from the "feel" of the keyboard. Keeps the surface of my ibook clean, along with keeping little bits of whatever from falling into and inside the keyboard. A great investment for keeping your ibook clean. Not to mention it gives your ibook a certain type of appeal.

  • Good!
    By AG9SWJ82DCTX7 on 2008-01-21
This product was really good, it protects really well, a really good fit to the keyboard, it slightly slows down typing speed but thats the only negative, overall, its great

  • Damaging for the long haul
    By A3E8WX31CW799J on 2008-06-25
I was hesitant to buy a one of these Macbook keyboard covers at first because other reviews mentioned the corners flapping/lack of sticking and the residue it leaves on the screen. This wasn't too bad of a problem...

However, I noticed two spots on my screen. Those little bumps you'll find on the F and J keys pushed against the screen through the keyboard cover and over time left permanent marks. I quit using the cover to avoid further damage.

Bottom line: not worth the damage, especially when you have to deal with constant cleaning of the screen and the annoyance of the sides flapping up anyway. USE A MR. CLEAN MAGIC ERASER INSTEAD to clean your keyboard area...works great on white Macbooks.

  • Doesn't work
    By A3FGJPQU71S3D6 on 2008-06-30
I bought this cover to protect my Mac keyboard but it doesn't stay on properly when you type. By the time I realized it and tried to return it I was out of the 7 day period to return. If you do buy this, make sure you try it out quickly b/c otherwise you will run out of your return time.

  • Good protection, but....
    By A3RUG3U6BYONA4 on 2007-12-11
This product is a thin membrane-- very flexible and light. It reminds me of salmon skin (but it's not slippery!). The membrane protects the keys and palm rest areas; it provides peace of mind that liquids won't seep under the keys in the event of a spill. If you are a good ten-finger typer you probably won't be encumbered by the product. I type with two fingers and find the added thickness just a bit difficult.
Maybe the ideal solution is never to eat or drink near your Mac.

  • I'm almost 100% used to it
    By A1U1Z4JCMWKWWI on 2007-12-12
Now that I have this cover on my keyboard, I see how much gunk finds its way into my life. I'm happy to have something to catch it all.

Sometimes when I open my computer the skin lifts up but that is a non-issue for me.

  • great!
    By A1ER80BXC4J72C on 2007-12-21
I am very happy with my purchase. My Macbook is protected now and its nice to feel how smooth the keyboard skin is when typing.

  • great idea

good product protect my mac and it maintains ma mac clean ever, good choice for the price

  • Macbook Skin
    By on 2008-02-08
This is a great product for keeping your laptop clean and the typing sound down. It also adds color to your laptop which I've gotten complements on. I have two complaints though. First, I initially found it hard to type because you have to press down on the keys. Second, the cover tends to attract lint from clothing it if you accidently peel it off the laptop while typing.

  • Good protection but check your model
    By A14X96C4REKXWQ on 2008-02-20
I bought this because the keyboard on my MacBook (white) was getting dirty very quickly. I like the skin, its comfortable to type and just looking at all the dirt on it makes me glad the computer keyboard is protected. That said, the trackpad clicker doesn't feel great but I'm getting used to it. Also, some things just get 'stuck' to the skin, like dog hair - you can't just "blow" it off, you need to pick it off. Most importantly, CHECK YOUR KEYBOARD LAYOUT. I have a new (Nov 2007 version?) MacBook and the keyboard layout is different for the function keys and an enter/option button in the bottom right (skin says Enter, but its an Option key). Not a huge deal to me, of all the things that are wrong, the only keys I use often are the Dashboard & volume - its still annoying but I can live with it.

  • Very Happy With It
    By A1XXYIK7J943B6 on 2008-03-17
I bought this for my MacBook Pro 17". It is clear so the light-up keyboard still work perfectly. The original keyboard felt a little flimsy, so this product actually give the keyboard a little more feel to it. Prevent any dust/spill from geting into the keyboard. I just hope they make another one that actually cover the wrist rest area. My wife's cover for macbook has that and it feels great on your wrist.

  • Fantastic.
    By A1ALO8VO3D37J0 on 2008-03-20
I use warm water to clean mine and that makes it fit the keys tighter. I love this product and would reccomend it to anyone.

  • Keeps it clean!
    By A1PZUNQDB294XU on 2008-03-21
Keeps my wifes lil MacBook clean and looking like new. Wish we had installed this on my sons MacBook. Getting the body oils and dirt out of the finish on the top of the MB is impossible. The only negative I have to add is that the corners come loose. No big deal, just a little annoying.
