  • This one will make your life easier.

I do a lot of baking; a lot of different types of baking and therefore need good equipment that is not going to break my piggy bank. I have owned several dough blenders (still have them in the baking section of my kitchen) but found this Oxo brand to be the best of the litter. It fits my hand perfectly and for those of you who do a lot of work with these utensils know, this is very important. Nothing like a good hand cramp to set your day off just right. I suspect that this company has put in quite a lot of research as to the workings of the human hand and they pretty well have it nailed with this product.

The blades of this one (five) are quite stout and do not bend and flex as most do. I hate flimsy utensils, so this one was a real pleasure when I started using it. As to the sturdiness, this one if far superior to the Wilton, Pampered Chief or Anco...there is just no comparison. Trust me, I have used them all.

There are some considerations though. As pointed out by one reviewer, this mixer is not compatible with smaller bowls. I use rather large and heavy mixing bowls so do not have that problem myself, but I can see were some might have. Secondly, cleaning by hand is a chore. I have found the best way to clean this thing up is to soak it for a bit and then simply throw it in the dishwasher. I usually like to hand wash all my equipment, but in this case I go for the washer. The other way I have used is the simple use of a longer bristled kitchen brush.

As an added tip, this is a good tool to make thin butter patties with and to slice eggs for salads..a very nice even cut.

If you do a large amount of "scratch" baking, then this one is going to make life a lot easier for you.

  • Works perfectly

    By A209D2XJBLUXFU on 2007-11-12
This product works exactly as advertised. After using knives/forks to cut in butter, I finally got frustrated and bought this -- what a difference. It cuts my work time in half and does a much better job than how I used to do it. Highly recommended!

  • good value

Good product for a basic pastry cutter.Blades are fairly stiff and distort very little with use.Grip is very comfortable for my small hands and grips well. Not large so if you do large batches you will get a workout. Why are blades always so not sharp on these cutters? All together a solid performing tool.

  • STURDY

I'VE OWNED ONE OF THESE FOR YEARS AND AM BUYING THIS ONE AS A GIFT FOR A NEWLY ENGAGED FRIEND. IT'S STURDY AND HANDY. I ONLY BOUGHT MINE AFTER TRYING SEVERAL OTHER BRANDS, AND IT'S THE BEST I'VE EVER USED.

  • 5 stars

    By A1FPS2YXJ4PY3R on 2008-03-22
Great grip, very sturdy blades... I don't think this product could have been made any better! I actually bought it for mashing beans and other soft foods when I cook, and this product has worked perfectly every time. 5 stars!

  • impressive... most impressive
    By A1AB6OSC3B94DI on 2007-12-12
I've made three double pie doughs with this item so far. It's very sturdy and is easy to clean. I can't really compare it to the more whisk-like model, since I haven't used one of those before. Bottom line is that this dough blender does its job well.

  • sturdier than the wire version
    By A1B7DU1OQ88FOD on 2008-11-01
This dough blender works really well with my all-butter crusts -- where my wire blender will bend away from the cold butter, the blades on this one will cut right through. As someone who makes all of her pastry by hand still, I was glad to add this blender to my gadget drawer.

  • The best pastry blender on the market
    By A2JUWWEV5RC9JO on 2009-07-13
If your budget can't afford a food processor, this is the next best thing. Most handheld pastry blenders are made of wire and warp drastically at the sight of semi-solid butter. This one holds together and makes excellent dough in short order. I am very happy with my purchase and plan to use it on a regular basis.

  • The beefiest dough blender ever
    By A1FP2LA6M2OJX0 on 2009-03-17
Up until the day I got this beauty, I had been using a Pampered Chef dough blender. The blades on it were flimsy and the handle was small with uncomfortably-rough edges. I have big hands and the second I held this Oxo Dough Blender, I knew it was "the one." The handle is comfortable and the 5 blades do not bend or move with regular use, which was a constant issue I had with the Pampered Chef dough blender. Oxo seems to have figured out that some cooks have large hands and I love their kitchen gadgets for that very reason. I cannot imagine a better option than this one!!

  • perfect dough blender
    By A26MGUKYL2PE70 on 2009-02-11
This is the only good pastry blender out there, and it's just right. The wire whisk ones just flop around when you try to cut cold butter. I had an Anco one that looked like this, until the handle shattered and sent plastic shards into my pie crust. This one is comfortable to use, sturdy, and cuts butter into flour quickly, giving me a perfectly mixed dough for pie crust.

  • great home tool

I have used this for a multiude of recipes
    easy on the hands
    Good spacing of blades

  • Good enough

sturdy pastry blender that's a bit clunky. longer tines require more attention when cleaning.

  • Oxo makes a nice pastry blender
    By A1NZPSK1SPYUTR on 2009-01-13
Oxo seems to know how the human hand works. They make the most comfortable to use kitchen tools of anyone and this is no exception. Sturdy blades work well, even when the shortening is a bit stiff.

  • Many Uses!!! Not Just About the Dough ;)
    By on 2008-12-13
This little goody has been in our family for years! I use it to cut hard boiled eggs for Egg Salad. It's so easy to use, not matter what you use it for. Nothing sticks to it. It's wicked easy to clean. This is a must-have in the kitchens! Enjoy!

  • A champ!
    By A3N9TOPHBENB9I on 2008-11-27
I bought this dough blender a year ago, after getting fed up with the time-honored tradition of blending pie crust ingredients using two knives. (I know what you're thinking: "Wow! What a rebel!") This dough blender is terrific. The blades are sturdy, and it works like a champ. The blades are close enough to do a good job cutting lumps, far enough apart that they are easily cleaned. This is a definite keeper.

  • Easy to use time saver
    By A192PSGJ8107LB on 2010-02-15
This is another great Oxo product. It made quick work cutting shortening and butter into flour to make a pie crust, and made a streusel topping twice and fast and much easier than using a fork. Highly recommend! This is one gadget that is more than just a "nice to have" - it's a time and effort saver!

  • Simple, easy, and reliable.
    By A38LI0YAXYXOR9 on 2009-01-29
My wife and I have been using forks and knives to cut butter into dough, but this greatly simplifies the job. As others have said, the blades are sturdy--as is the overall design--and I have yet to have any problems or complaints. It's cheap, easy to use and clean, and certainly worth getting if you're sick of using forks and knives for the job.

  • Great!
    By A34UEZI8HVLZKP on 2009-01-08
This Dough Blender is fantastic. So much stronger than those flimsy ones you see most stores. This one will get the job done!

  • Wonderful kitchen tool!
    By A2M4MW2D35VUEI on 2008-12-24
Very sturdy pastry cutter. I've been looking for a new one and was so glad to find this one. When it came I was impressed at how strong it was, it should last me a long, long time!

  • sturdy, gets the job done
    By AY63732T42L3V on 2010-05-25
This is a good item. The tines do not bend or warp, so it actually goes through the butter, breaking it into smaller chuncks rather than just going AROUND the pieces like some do. Will it change your life, probably not, but it does what it's supposed to do.

  • Works great!
    By A1KG1VKNOC5BQ4 on 2010-05-24
I bought this to replace an old one made of just heavy wires, I couldn't believe the difference. These blades are actually "cutters" and do an excellent job of blending butter into flour for scones and pie dough. I am very happy with this purchase.

  • Oxo dough blender with blades
    By A1OO1YY5QRPTF2 on 2010-03-03
I looked everywhere for one of these. It is common to find one in a store or specialty shop with wire in place of the thick solid blades. When the blades are wire it is nearly impossible to complete your task with a good result for the wires are too flexable and bend into each other. This tool has good solid blades that work very well at blending anything from shortening and flour for a flakey crust to eggs for eggsalad. This tool is a great addition to my kitchen!

  • Depends on How You Use It
    By A10GLEOQQ71EBS on 2009-01-11
This OXO bladed dough blender is very sturdy and great for cutting items in a large bowl but I more frequently use it to cut butter into crumbly toppings in a smaller bowl and this is too wide to use in my preferred bowls. For my own purposes, it isn't so great but for others it might be excellent.

  • A dishwasher is a MUST
    By A2SJKRK71MJEXY on 2008-12-28
I gave this product 4 stars because it's impossible to clean (unless you toss it in the dishwasher). Other than that, I love it - it's a great way to do pastry and keep it light without using power tools that can overprocess the dough.

  • Now that's the stuff
    By A3HF0DN0PFRDFI on 2010-08-16
Wow, this is what a pastry cutter should be.

I've had three in my lifetime. I unfortunately got rid of the garage sale one, my first, because paint from its handle was chipping into my pastries. Hated the Pampered Chef one--it was so time-consuming to constantly unbend its flimsy wires. This one has a comfy, sturdy handle that doesn't cut into my hand, plus tough blades that don't wimp out. Perfect for making pie crust, biscuits, crumb topping or whatever. So much faster than having to deal with the cheaply made version I used to have.

The only downside is it claims a slighter bigger share of my utensil drawer but I've made room. It's well worth it.

  • sturdy, easy, dishwasher safe
    By A1XK4GG3NUWSID on 2010-07-18
I used this to cut the butter into sugar to make a crumb topping for my banana bread. Love it. Very study and easy to wash (in the dishwasher)

  • Stupendous!
    By A1YBW71L9AZAC6 on 2010-07-06
Like all Oxo products, this finely designed and exquisitely engineered Dough Blender with Blades is superb. In the hands of a kitchen maestro, the exclusive Oxo Good Grips merge with the soul of the chef and work absolute magic. Whatever work demanded by the dough is concluded swiftly and with excellence, easily and with complete assurance. If one is in need of such a kitchen aid, only the foolish would flirt with any other brand than Oxo, let alone touch an inferior concept in order to save a few dollars. The decision is left to the individual, but it is encouraged that the choice be made at this point as this is indeed the finest instrument of its type available at any price.

  • Doesn't quite cut it!
    By A36PG3D7ILZEU2 on 2010-05-09
I'll admit, I tend to be a dump and beat baker...dump the ingredients in a bowl and beat 'em to batter! However, there are some recipes that require a little more finesse in marrying the butter to the flour. I have tried the finger method, fork method, double knife method, and found them all cumbersome. I decided that perhaps the right tool, a tool supposedly made for the job, would ease my frustrations and failures! Sadly, using this tool is not much better than the methods mentioned above. Generally, I am happy with Oxo products, but, this one missed the mark! The wires are not sharp enough to "cut" and do more mashing than cutting. To call them "blades" is a misnomer! They are also too close together to really do the job...again, more mashing than cutting the butter into nice floury chunks. And, the pastry blender I received doesn't even LOOK like the picture! Finally, for some reason this tool feels awkward. The handle needs to be thicker and larger and the shape changed somehow to accomodate the motion needed to cut pastry. I admit, it could be my methodology and my general lack of experience creating fine pastries, but, I was disappointed in this gadget.

  • Makes baking so much easier
    By A1U9MGMSB5MH9B on 2010-04-19
I just used this to cream some butter and brown sugar. Boy, am I glad I bought this... It's way easier than slicing pea-sized butter gobs using a couple of butter knives.

Fantastic grip on the handle, and very sturdy blades for an easy cut through solid butter.

  • Oxo does it again!!
    By A2L6MVETDQCU3D on 2009-07-09
I have NEVER had any problems with any OXO products that I have purchased. This works great!
