  • Why does "For Kids" have to mean "Piece of Junk"?

    By A3O5ES8XG3SQKK on 2007-08-09
First I will admit that my 4yo daughter loves this camera. The smile on her face while she's taking pictures is worth the price to me. But seriously, this camera is a piece of junk. The picture quality is so bad. I just don't understand it. It's like Fisher Price figured "hey, it's for kids, so why bother making it decent". Shame on them and shame on all those who go along with it posting comments like "what do you want for a kids camera".

I don't have unrealistic expectations and am not expecting a kids camera to take the same quality photographs as my Nikon D200. I expect less when I pay less. But this thing isn't that cheap. For nearly 1/2 the price you can get a Kodak with 5mp and zoom that will take much, much,...much better pictures. So where's the extra cost coming from? Don't tell me the durable camera body. Really folks, this is a $10 digital camera in a $90 plastic and rubber case.

  • Hard to use, inferior product that your kids will love.

    By A2O8773JHYTW3C on 2007-11-12
My five year old loves to take pictures with our "grownup" camera and, amazingly, sometimes the pictures come out really well. Because of that, her grandmother bought her this camera since it seemed like it would be easier to use and more durable. You could probably drop this thing from the Space Shuttle and it would survive the impact, but it produces such awful pictures that it's not worth saving any of the photos taken with it.

Of course the kids love this camera because they don't know any better and it is, admittedly, a lot of fun to play around with but it is honestly one of the most disappointing toys I have ever seen. I would hate to reward Fisher Price for producing something that, while fun, is such a piece of junk otherwise.

  • Super Fun & Sturdy Kids Camera

    By A1ZSXZY158QGBT on 2007-08-21
My daughter received this camera for her fifth birthday and loves it. At her party, all the other kids were clamoring to use it. It is colorful, easy to hold, and makes fun sounds with each function. The resolution of the photos is low, but most of these photos aren't keepers anyway (especially the ones of me at the computer in my pajamas). It is very sturdy and easy to use and understand. According to my research, this seems to be the best "kids" camera currently on the market.

  • This is a TOY, not a camera!

    By A3GSVMW7ONJY6U on 2007-08-08
I was quite disappointed when testing the camera prior to giving it to my four-year old daughter. The picture quality is terrible. I don't think we will be keeping many of the 480x640 pixel, grainy images. However, my daughter absolutely loves the camera; it has become her favorite toy and she loves taking pictures of everything! She isn't a critic of the quality, so maybe I shouldn't be, either.

  • Perfect for Little Ones

    By AJLJO486GAHZU on 2007-07-27
I bought this for my almost 4 year old daughter. She loves taking pictures with our camera and I wanted her to have one of her own. It is very easy to use and I like that she can hold the camera and push the button with ease. If your child likes taking pictures (of everything and anything) I recommend this camera. A little pricey but worth it.

  • Made my daughter's birthday!
    By A5JXRY7KNM1QK on 2007-08-10
My 4yr old daughter was set up for this toy. She was using everything she could get her hands on as a pretend camera including toy cell phones and anything that was remotely rectangular box shaped. When she opened this camera she was beyond excited. She used it at her own party and had the memory full within 15 minutes.

The Kid tough digital camera will store about 60 or so images at the default resolution. We haven't transferred any images to a pc yet, but on the screen they look poor. Maybe worse than the typical cell phone camera. That's ok though as that is not the main benefit of the camera anyway.

For the kids here's the deal. . .you have a viewfinder that you can keep both eyes open with, it makes a real shutter sound and makes an actual picture that you can review on the LCD screen. They don't care about the quality of the photos.

For the parent it is a great transition into early photography training, and using a PC. Digital is great. . .I wasn't allowed to use a camera until much later in life because of the costs of film.

It IS tough and seems to be able to hold up to my kid anyway. If your child has a bent toward cameras and taking photos this is a great toy.

  • bad pictures but lots of fun
    By A30BC3XSMDKV6S on 2007-09-08
This camera is my 4 year old daughter's favorite thing to play with right now. It takes terrible pictures but she doesn't care. She absolutely loves running around and snapping pictures of everything she can find. It is very easy to use and she doesn't need our help at all. The picture quality is similar to a camera phone. You can certainly see what it's a picture of but they aren't framable quality. I would definitely recommend this camera because it is so much fun for kids.

  • Not worth the money
    By A1NUBXZHMM1QD9 on 2007-10-28
We looked everywhere for this camera for my son last year for Christmas. We finally found one, but I wish we hadn't. It is a nice concept. I like the way it is built for kids with a double eye viewfinder and it is durable, but the picture quality is terrible. There is no reason why Fisher Price couldn't have made the camera to take decent pictures. These aren't even worth having printed. I wish we would have bought a regular digital camera instead. At least my son would have pictures to show and be proud of. Definitely not worth the [...] we paid for it!

  • JUNKY HUNK O PLASTIC!
    By A284997CY0GFDW on 2007-11-13
Do not waste your money. Sure, my daughter who is three was so excited to get her own cam and so was I until I looked at the pics. There is no reason why they at least cant be viewable. There is basically no point in even looking at the pics since you cant even make out any of them. Yes, the quality is that bad. This thing was not cheap and I just dont get it. She wanted to see her pics later and I showed them to her and her smile turned into a frown and she just kept asking to see her pics and I kept telling her over and over there they are!!!! She thought I had lost my mind. My cam phone takes pics 100 times better than this. Look if your kids are this age just give them one of your old digitals. My daughter has never dropped mine and if she does I dont really care since its my old cam. Otherwise go out and buy them a ton of those cheap disposables or a regualar digital one for half the price. Trust me on this one!

  • Fun for kids until pictures are deleted!
    By A3AVH9FVZKT7CH on 2007-09-20
The 6 year old that received this camera found it very easy to use and had fun taking pictures of everything in sight. The only problem we found was that the delete button is in a spot that others thought was the button to snap the picture. It is a 2-step operation to delete a picture, but kids who wanted to "take pictures", held it down and inadvertently deleted pictures she wanted to keep. I hope that future models put this button in a less conspicuous spot to prevent this from happening.

  • Dissappointed
    By A2GG1JA2O7SUCV on 2007-11-18
My 6yr. old daughter was so excited to get her first real camera. She was ecstatic when she began to use it. However, she was smart enough to realize that the picture quality totally stunk! Yes, she got to push the buttons on her own and take her own shots, but she also wanted them on the computer to look at. The pictures were horrible. This would be more suitable if she was three and didn't understand that the pictures go somewhere after the camera. It's a lot of money to pay for just another "play" camera. The camera has definitely held up well and still works, but it is definitely not close to a real camera.

  • Not that Tough
    By A3OM08JGOTJOVW on 2007-09-18
I bought this toy for Christmas last year and by February I exchanged it at the store because the sounds quit working. That wouldn't be a big deal except you need the sounds to know when the picture is taken, thus keeping the camera still and keeping the pictures from being too blury. The picture quality is ridiculous. Now the second camera is broken. My daughter was 6 at the time and treats her toys very well. I thought it would hold up better, given the title and the commercials showing it being dropped down stairs.

  • Didn't like it much
    By A3BLX53UUMUHRS on 2007-11-06
I bought this camera last year for my girls. They like it but the resolution is really bad. You can barely see the picture in the screen. My girls took pictures of everything but none of them were good enough to download them. All of them came out blurry and a very bad resolution. I prefer spending the money on a real camera. The only good thing is that the camera is very durable. Other than that, it's not worth buying it.

  • Great Camera for Kids
    By AQY1X7DWBQUHI on 2007-11-22
This is a great camera for kids. It certainly isn't a camera you would want to use for your annual Christmas cards because the resolution is not that great. It is extremely durable. My daughter has dropped hers countless times and it still works great. I love that it has capability of an upgraded SD Card slot and the battery time couldn't be better since it will automatically shut itself off when not being used.
    Great Camera!

  • Does what it should for a 4 year old
    By on 2007-11-08
Our 4 year old daughter loves it. She figured out how to work all the buttons almost immediately. She just keeps taking pictures and deleting to make room for more. Easy to download pics to a computer if you want. Picture quality is a little grainy, but still good. Overall, no regrets, this is exactly what we were looking for.

We got the custom carrying case too, but that may not have been necessary. Get the camera first, then decide if you need the case.

  • zrecs.com compared all and found this one was the best, and I agree
    By A1NA2I8KSZCDUQ on 2007-12-03
My 5 year old is wild about this and we are very pleased with the purchase. It's been easy for her, easy for us to download and unbelievably durable. We checked Zrecs.com which did a side-by-side comparison test-trials with all the kids digital cameras (pixie, world, and v-tech included)and they picked the fisher price one on all counts, including resolution. I do concede that the pic resolution is not at the level adult cameras are, but I imagine that has something to do with attempting to package that somewhat fragile technology in the sturdiest form possible. The pics are still good enough to put in a scrapbook, etc.

Note: I would suggest spending the extra $ and buy the camera packaged with the extra memory card. It's hard to find it to buy separately and 60 pictures go quickly with trigger-happy kids. Hope this helps! Merry Christmas!

  • Fun for a Four Year Old
    By AUCN7Q6JPMNQ8 on 2007-11-08
I recently got this camera for our daughter's 4th birthday. She has had a ball with it! She loves that it is a "real" camera & loves to see the images on it. I recommend it for little ones who want a real camera. For the older kids that want quality pictures however, this is not the one for them. It is nice & durable, but the quality of the photo is not good at all. My daughter gets a kick out of taking tons of wacky photos & best of all...we can erase them when she is done! It's fun.

  • Excellent for Preschoolers
    By A3VCEWSD7ILOXH on 2007-12-03
No doubt about it, this camera is a TOY! The picture quality is usually poor, but you can tell what the subject matter of the photo is. More importantly though, my now 3 y/o and 5 y/o absolutely love it! We've had the red (Target) version of the camera for over a year, it's been dropped, thrown and thoroughly abused, and it's still going strong. They've gone from taking pictures of the floor and of people's torsos (heads cut off) to actually composing a photo of a still life or of people's faces. They have never been disappointed by the picture quality, they're just happy to see the image on the view-screen. I first tried getting them an inexpensive "real" digital camera and it was much too difficult for them to use. If your kids can take care of a real camera, then skip this, but if you're looking for a fun toy, this fits the bill! I'd get another if I didn't want them to learn to share!

  • Fisher Price Kid Tough Digital Camera - Pink (New Version)
    By ASABKK12GK75K on 2007-10-23
I received the Fisher Price Kid Tough Digital Camera - Pink (New Version) and everything was as promised. This is a Christmas present and has not been used yet. I sure it will be great.

  • Great Camera for Kids and Fabulous Customer Service
    By A3JJGSF541E7OF on 2007-10-29
We have had these cameras for our children for almost a year now. The kids still use the cameras all the time. How many toys can claim that? We did have a small issue with one (the first edition), however, Fisher Price's customer service had been great to deal with and a replacement camera (new version) is in transit (took about 6 weeks to get). Highly recommend, even with the small glitch we experienced. Plus, you can always use on vacation when you forget yours...we have!

  • Dont waste your money
    By A3P68S1V3F01P3 on 2007-11-28
My son recieved this for his birthday. Takes HORRIBLE pictures. In many we can't even make out what they were. Viewfinder is inaccurate resulting in many chopped off head shots. After using it a few weeks it sometimes wouldnt start up properly, sometimes would. For the price I was very disappointed. Also, it comes with a usb cable but when plugged in my computer couldnt find a driver for it and there doesnt seem to be any available. My son didnt seem to care about the picture quality and had fun with it.

  • Kids love it, but the pictures are awful
    By A3MNV91GLZ4LFC on 2008-01-12
I would give this 1 star if not for the fact that my kids do seem to enjoy it. The pictures are horrendous, most of the time, you cant even make out who/what the picture is of.

I will say that they are super durable, having been dropped dozens of times over the year weve had them.

I wish fisher-price would have thought enough of our kids to make it even 1 megapixel, so the kids could enjoy thier photos more.

  • Great Kids Gift!
    By A8BWTGK835J3L on 2007-11-02
This was a great durable gift for my 7 year old niece. She loves acting like she is a "big" girl with her own camera.

  • f/p camera
    By A2WKGK0X3Q2O63 on 2007-11-22
Rate it at 4.5 stars. Well made. Good pictures. Takes a little to get the kids started, but great after that.

  • Hours of fun for a toddler
    By A3D3QUA6E6BC3Y on 2007-12-17
My 2.5 year old daughter just received this is a Christmas gift. She LOVES it. She immediately knew how to use it and was snapping pictures left and right. We've even uploaded her photograph art to our Web site so the family can see the amusing photos she has taken. No, the picture quality isn't the highest but the ease of use for toddler fingers makes up for it. I would suggest this camera for the 2-4 age group. A child older than 4 can operate and probably not completely destroy, an inexpensive regular camera. But for a 2 year old, the minimal buttons, chunky hand grips, large viewfinder and easy to hit picture taking button are worth the price.

  • Not the best by far but my daughter loves HER camera
    By ADEKVUXSIXW5H on 2007-12-29
My 4 year old daughter loves taking pictures so I got her this camera for Christmas. She absolutely LOVES it however, as a parent, I am extremely disappointed in the quality of the pictures. The megapixels are equivalent to those of a cell phone. In other words, poor. Not only does she want to take pictures but she wants to save them on our computer and print them.
1 - the flash is so bright that any picture taken too close is washed out and just 'white'
2 - I've already discussed the abysmal picture quality
3 - When you dump the pictures from the camera onto your computer, you must save them in a different folder everytime or rename the new ones, otherwise, the computer wants to overwrite the old ones because the filenames are the same.
But, in the end, my daughter loves it.

  • Great product, very durable!!
    By A3PTW96KMT5V7H on 2008-01-07
My 4 year old grandaughter loves this camera! She has dropped it several times and it still works just fine. She loves taking pictures and they turn out great!! Would definately recommend this product.

  • This thing is tough.
    By AUZV6JT47VE04 on 2008-03-24
This camera is indestructible in the hands of my four year olds. The picture quality is pretty bad, but not to the kids. What would you really expect from a camera this cheap that still holds up to being dropped from height on to a tile floor? The pictures are good enough that you can get some idea of your child's perspective.

Note: There is no feature on this camera that prevents your child from coming in the bathroom while you are showering and snapping off a couple shots. Please review the pictures the kids take and talk to them about them.

  • My daughter really likes it.
    By A1HEF1YWVS8XGO on 2007-12-18
We got this toy for our daughter's 6th birthday. She is always getting her hands on my digital camera so we figured this would be a good substitute. She was very excited when she opened it and began taking pictures right away. It was very simple to operate and she figured out how to review pics and delete pics right away. the quality of the pictures is not great, however she didn't seem to mind one bit. She took pictures all day with her very own camera. If you're looking for high quality pics to download, share, etc...this would not work. If you just want something that is fun, durable and easy to use, I recommend this camera.

  • My daughter loves to take pictures and with this camara she can have lots of fun knowing that it wont fall and break
    By A1Q8C4HKCF9NF7 on 2007-12-18
she's 6 and always asks me or anyone else in the family to lend her their cameras and cellphones to take pictures, and i reluctantly lend her the camera every now and then standing besides her because she might drop it and break it. But now i'm worry free knowing this camera can give her all the fun of taking her pictures and if it falls she can just pick it up and keep playing, no harm done.
I love this toy, is the best christmas present for both her and I.
