Customer Reviews

  • Early failure of laser

    By AC1ATYMKSZYKE on 2007-08-10
Terrific product. The Chinese made Laser Stars projector was derived from a $3000 projector made in the USA. I had the laser in the bedroom and it was set to turn on for 1.5 hrs every night. The manufacturer cautions against leaving it on for more than 6 hrs. They should change that recommendation as the laser failed after 40 nights of use in our bedroom. It comes with a 45 day warranty. Buyers should contact the seller to confirm the return policy before purchasing.

  • This is the best (consumer) 'star' projector around - hands down - but for fun only

    By ALUYNO0PD2ARM on 2007-06-16
This thing is awesome. Green laser light scattered all over the ceiling (or where ever you shine it.) The projector also puts an eerie blue cloud on the surface as well. There are no 'real' star constellations in this product but the simulation of stars and clouds is unreal. This isn't an educational tool at all - just a fun light show.

  • Great Buy

    By A25SWROM2YEBOA on 2007-02-12
If it is an educational star projector you want, this one is not for you. There are no real constellations or stars. However, if you are looking for something to make it seem like you are under a sky with thousands of stars moving around in random but smooth motions and with a great ambient blue 'cloud cover' light (that can be turned up, down or off) this is just what you are looking for. The stars move at different speeds in relatively random patterns, they are very clear and of several different sizes and it can fill the whole ceiling of almost any room. Exactly what I was looking for!

  • Two units broke in one month, but beautiful!

    By AF3R4UY9XU89E on 2008-01-09
I purchased mine from another store. Each unit sat untouched on the dresser and were not handled aside from off/on switch. Both the first unit and replacement unit broke within 2-3 weeks. Fan becomes loud and have to knock on it to quite it down until it eventually just stays in a loud whirring mode. Second unit began loud whirring and green laser/stars stopped functioning altogether (even with the love tap). I have opted not to take my chances again! It WAS beautiful, though...daughter loved it at bedtime, you could stare at it for hours and never quite see the same pattern. Very dreamy! But even at $150 (I paid $180) with such a VERY poor track record, I don't recommend it!

  • my long review (4 out of 5 stars)

    By A2FFU029RAW7WB on 2007-12-05
This is the best light effect (for a normal price range) I've come across. It's approx 100x better than the "laserpod".

It covers a lot of wall/ceiling space -- the beam spread is almost exactly a 90 degree wide cone (not 180 degrees) - so if you put it in a corner on the floor and aim it at 45 degrees up, the circular star field will have one edge on the ceiling directly above and the bottom edge just above floor level and you'll have stars on the majority of two walls & your ceiling.

..another way to look at it -- if you point it straight up at your 10 foot high ceiling up, the circular star field will stretch 20 feet across your ceiling...

This does, in general, give a great impression of being random stars swirling about. Obviously, this is meant for a dark or very dim room. A well lit room kill the effect completely. In a dark room it really does fill a lot of wall/ceiling space

It seems well built (though it warns only use it 4 hours at a time so I imagine there is an overheating issue with the green laser). I'm using it in a cool well ventilated area & it doesn't seem to create much heat at all.

It's louder than I expected (loud fan if you're in a quiet room - about the level of a louder computer fan - but in a party atmosphere or with music you'll never notice it)

    Criticism:
The brightest "star" is in the exact center of the field & it doesn't move at all ...around it are 8 more stars that create a distinct 3x3 square grid... This square grid rotates slowly/steadily... This does take away from the random effect (it doesn't kill the effect but it may be an issue for some).

That's really the end of the review... some more random thoughts about it below...

videos I've seen on youtube of this product are horrible - regular video cameras probably have a hard time with this.

I believe this is a cheap version (rip off?) of a "BlissLight" -- but the BlissLight starts at around a grand & is more for real light shows in large rooms.

There are additional lights in the 3x3 grid pattern but they are dim & aren't an issue ...Additionally, there are also a number of other (not exactly random but close enough) points scattered around the edges but these don't take away at all -- in fact the outside stationary lights actually add to the effect. (the nearby stars zoom by while the distant stars never move)

The blue nebula is alright (pretty cool but it doesn't spread out enough)

  • Nice effect when used in controlled environment
    By A3649AZVM4N63A on 2007-12-11
Very cool effect when used in optimal conditions. Best results in dark room on white surfaces. Not as successful on wood dance floors, or projecting over distances over 15 feet or so, unless its in a dark room and doesn't have to compete with other light sources. Excellent for kids room or family room for fun...

  • MORE THAN A TOY!
    By A10EMT5HLA5XVQ on 2007-11-28
WOW! What an awesome product! It is certainly more than a TOY! We have it on in our living room on our vaulted ceiling every night, or sometimes we move it to the bedroom for the vaulted ceiling there. It gives a wonderful, peaceful ambiance! Only adults use it in our household. There are no children. I am sure, however, that my grandchildren and great grandchildren will love it when they come to visit! It was an excellent price for the product: the lowest price we could find anywhere! It arrived quickly and we are extremely satisfied!

  • Very Cool!
    By A2DFDDMCFQ9FZG on 2007-12-26
Everybody who sees this is amazed. My eight year old daughter, my six year old son and my 36 year old husband love the Laser Star! It is such a cool night light . . .very relaxing to watch! It may not show accurate constellations, but it makes you feel as if you are in outer space.

  • Just for fun
    By AH4TOU5MSJUGT on 2007-12-26
Green specks floating around are tranquil and pleasant. No galaxies, no educational value, just for fun. Simple to use, no other parts to keep up with. No sleep timer.

  • Coolest "toy" this Christmas!
    By AY2HPWFZ178QN on 2007-12-26
This thing is great. I used it the first time in a pitch black room and immediately said, "Wow." Even with medium light in a room it looks great, though it's best in total darkness of course. It's relaxing, a little hynotic, and well worth the price for anybody who is freaky-for-stars. Don't expect the real night sky, however -- as in "Orion's over there, and there's Sirius" -- as these generic "stars" are generated by laser in random, shifting patterns. It's more of a mood thing. The stars are green and the adjustable nebula cloud is bright blue, and the cloud is helpful as it disguises the laser patterns. I barely hear the fan, AND it's been running for over three hours and there is absolutely no heat around the thing. Amazing! It has a nice, small footprint, and you can even attach it to a wall so it stays out of the way (the projector is adjustable and can be pointed anywhere -- it even looks cool pointed in a corner). The only thing that seems a little silly is the fact that the projector is shaped like a star; as a grown-up "kid" I'd have been fine with a less conspicuous design. But that's not worth the loss of even half a star when it comes to the rating, it's great fun!

  • I love it!
    By A2XAD7HI6K1TNY on 2007-12-22
I got this for a christmas present and was really impressed. I first plugged it in during the day first and was not too happy. But later in the evening with all the lights out I was amazed! This thing will mesmerize you.

  • Nice Product

I am really enjoying this product. The laser light show is awesome. The beautiful colors and star patterns are great.

  • Sweet Optics
    By ADAO0ECINTOUV on 2008-04-25
This gadget is awesome. Hours of wasted time spent looking at the pretty lights on the walls. Or perhaps the deep inner working of our galaxy. Either way its fun and my friends like it. (which isn't sayin much)

  • Fills your room but no realistic
    By A3RW5L3VTUUQEY on 2008-09-14
We bought this for my daughter (5). Her room has a vaulted ceiling and is 15X16.

    Likes:

    1. The field of stars covers the entire ceiling.
    2. The blue nebula is adjustable, so you can turn it on/off or adjust the brightness.
    3. The green blue combo is nice. She loves the colors and seems to help her go to sleep quicker.

    Dislikes:

    1. Green stars? Wish it was white.
    2. Not realistic. No Astronomical worth.
    3. The stars move. Looks like cells under a microscope or Dust in the sunlight. Only a few are actually stationary.

My daughter loves it. It might be nice for a party. For astronomers it's worthless. Definately a "little kids toy". Dont buy this is your kid is studying the stars.
