Your Voice Unlocks the Diary With a normal diary, you're just begging for someone to sneak a peek! But not the Paws Off. This voice-activated electronic diary lets you record a secret password for you--and you alone--to remember. When the diary recognizes your voice and the correct password, then the guard dog barks happily and the diary pops open. When you press a button on the inside, the guard dog interacts with you. The cute figure even moves from behind its bubble dome so you can play with it any time. However, if the password is incorrect, then the dog is not friendly. Releasing a loud, angry bark, the diary will not open. And in case would-be intruders have any more funny ideas, this diary keeps out unwanted guests with a hard, durable plastic design. Fun Accessories Speaking of design, the already festive pink, yellow, and purple diary comes with sheets of fun pet stickers to decorate your secret notes and diary case. And with 20 sheets of pet note paper held in place with cute paw print clips, you can write your biggest secrets or keep notes to friends safe until you see them next. A wonderful addition to any Littlest Pet Shop collection, this electronic toy comes completely assembled and requires only three AA batteries (not included). What's in the Box Electronic diary, sticker sheets, 20 note paper sheets, and guard dog figure.

"Paws Off!" if frustrating at first By A1KVLUTGZ5MAPT on 2007-11-03
We just bought 2 of these for my daughters, ages 4 and a half and 8 and a half. First off, I wish there was more than just the dog version to choose from, but we solved the "whose is whose" problem with a Sharpie on the back. The voice recognition is pretty frustrating for kids, it took a good 20 minutes for my eight year old and I to get it to accept her voice. Make sure you pick a short, one syllable password, and like the other reviewer says, one with hard consonants in it. So far, I have been unable to get my 4 year old to say the password the same way several times in order to get the diary to accept her choice of password. She doesn't seem to mind too much though and both of them are in there happily writing in the diary and using the stickers. I hope Hasbro comes out with refill notepads and stickers soon!
so-so voice recognition By A2MBDAJ4DPIRMT on 2007-09-06
my 6yr old daughter bought this for herself w/birthday money. SHE loves it. although she does get frustrated sometimes because the voice-recognition isn't so great. when choosing a password name, try to get your kids to choose one w/hard sounding letters, not soft ones. it seems to be better able to recognize names that have hard consonant sounds. (K, T, P, etc.) despite it's faults, she loves it. and since she's learning to spell more words, it IS very encouraging for that.
Do Not Waste Your Time By A29KMTM59RSPDC on 2007-11-13
The commercial for this toy is great. And I bought it, against my better judgement because my 7 year old niece REALLY REALLY wanted it! Less than a dozen sheets of paper... haven't been able to find refills. The guard is cute. The password is easy to get around. Her little brother is 5 and figured out that he could make any short word open it. I would pass on this purchase if I had to do it again.
pet shop By A2ASWLV4QS1RM5 on 2007-09-23
i got this for my little sisters birthday and she loves it very much but it was kinda hard to find the right password to say for it to work the best
6 year old wants to throw it out! By A23BFNJ6QI3USN on 2007-12-02
Well, my 6 year old was having fun with her "secret" password diary until her older brother and sister spoke into the microphone hole, and the diary opened right up..the magic was lost! She was in tears...devastated. Simple to open..anyone can speak any word, and it will open. The diary does keep her interest, and it is cute for any Pet Shop lover. Not much paper comes with this diary, but you can just cut your on paper to fit inside. This toy is definately for a younger kid...one who isn't writing sentences, as the paper is very small. My kindergartner practices her letters and numbers on the paper. The pet is removable...which is cool as well. Overall fun, for what it is, and the age group it is targeted for.
- Daughter loves the voice activation
     By A1NAZ878RQIB8K on 2007-10-11
My 7 yo daughter is over joyed with this diary, she loves diarys to begin with and one that is locked and only opens to her voice is the best. She carries it around all the time.....I like it too.
- Would not waste the money
     By A1F75C2CY22EU1 on 2007-12-04
My 7 year old daughter bought this toy with money she had saved up. It seemed like it would be a great little diary. Unfortunately, the voice recognition is not great and the diary part is a little 10 cent note pad. It was quite a let down.
- Dud of a diary
     By A3IGTOHK2C5YNI on 2007-12-25
Got this as a Christmas present for both my girls (6 and 9) because they had seen it advertised. I am cursing myself now that they have opened it since the voice recognition does not work well and my girls are constantly bringing it back to me to reset the password. At first I thought it was just because they were not enunciating the passwords properly. But then after watching them re-record their passwords over a dozen times I realize that the toy's voice recognition system is faulty. I tried it several times myself before it would accept my passord and worse yet, after it did accept my passoword it still would not open the diary despite my speaking the password numerous times. Moreover, it really isn't a diary since there is a tiny pad of paper (post-it size) with about 20 sheets...clearly not enough to really write any thoughts. If your child wants a diary I highly recommend you skip the Littlest Pet Shop version and buy the old fashioned paper kind with a key lock.
- Read the reviews and bought it anyway..
     By A32UTVM2RSRS9M on 2007-12-25
I bought this for my daughter for Christmas. She had put it on her list for Santa and it was all she talked about. I had read the reviews but felt that because I found it so cheap that I had to get it. I mean it was priceless - the look on her face... But I found out that the reviews didn't do this product justice.. It was WORSE than the reviews. Even for the fact that I got it cheap - 18.00. I still feel that it was worth even less. It doesn't work for children. Only adults and even then you have to have a deep voice. Didn't work for me.. but did for my hubby.. My daughter played with it for maybe 10 min.. but her favorite toy this Christmas is her BARBIE cash register. NOW that WAS worth the price.. its awesome..
- My daughter's very disappointed
     By A2416RIUMA55TQ on 2007-12-26
I purchased this toy for my 6-year-old for Christmas...it was #1 on her wish list...but now, well, we're all very upset. The whole point of this toy is that you can use a voice-command password so no one else can get into it. Well, first off, the password will not set. It set about 4 times and that was it. The reason we kept having to reset it is because it would not only open to her voice, but other peoples as well. Not very "secret". Also, you can just pull it open from the bottom, which her 2-year-old sister figured out in under 2 minutes. Again, I want to stress that it will no longer set a password. I've worked with it for 20 minutes this morning with no luck. I've spoken to several other parents who purchased this as a gift, and they have encountered the same problem. The technology is just not good enough.
- Big Christmas Disappointment
     By A1J5Q2MGNM3NHE on 2007-12-26
The password set easily, but then the diary opened automatically every time the "on" button was pushed...it never asked for the password -- no matter how many times we set the password and had it accepted. We finally returned it and got out money back, but my daughter was VERY disappointed.
- believe the reviews
     By A1VZE1CZWZ0IME on 2007-12-26
My daughter wanted this for Christmas so we got it for her. She could not get it to set a password in her voice. It would take my voice, but not hers, even my husband tried and he couldn't get it to take his voice. After trying with her for about 30 minutes, she was frustrated said that she didn't want it. So it's going back in the package and back to the store. Also, it comes with very little paper and a couple stickers - not even worth the $18 I paid on sale.
- waste of money
     By ASH92RMWB64DJ on 2007-12-26
My daughter wanted this for Christmas. She loved getting it, set her password right away, and had fun opening it with her voice. But then she realized that you can just pull the diary open manually -- it really doesn't lock. She was so disappointed that it really wasn't private at all.
- Paws Off this Toy--It's not worth the frustration
     By A370KOBIX2B5W0 on 2007-12-26
This Paws Off Diary is an all around disappointment. The voice activated lock never worked, despite 3 different adult family members resetting the password! I read and reread the directions and never once got the diary to work!
My second complaint is that the diary is not truly a diary--there is a paper pad enclosed and it is not tightly bound so when my daughter would turn to the next page to continue her thoughts, the first page would fall out. It's just a mess! Not a good way to teach organization and neatness!
The only positive thing I can say about this toy is that the spotted dog is adorable but not cute enough to keep for what we paid!
Please save yourself the heartbreak and frustration. There are other voice activated diaries out there or resort to the old lock & key kind--we found a fuzzy LITTLEST PET SHOP diary at Target and it made a great replacement!!
- Okay
     By AGCT7Z3GVL8GU on 2007-12-26
The book is supposed to open up ONLY with a secret password, but it opens up everytime when you push the button. It seems you have to reset it everytime for the "secret" password. I feel so bad because that was pretty high on my daughters wish list and she is a little disappointed as well.
- doesn't work!
     By AI3AO1R3DJL4J on 2007-12-26
My daughter begged for this toy. I held off, mindful of the lousy reviews on Amazon, for almost 2 years. I finally broke down and bought it for her for Christmas. And the reviews were right - it doesn't work! The door will open for anyone, with any word. What a scam!
- Nice concept
     By ARBV070WMH59M on 2007-12-27
I bought this for my daughter for Christmas (one of the only things on her wish list!) and she loves it! There isn't much room inside for them to store anything they write unless its just a couple of pages. The biggest problem I see is that the password recognition is very sensitive. Her password begins with a "S" and anytime someone says a word with an "S" it opens even though its not the password. So apparently it recognizes the first sound. Overall she is satisfed so thats all that matters to me!
- CIA-like Diary
     By A1E7UWXUWXFRN7 on 2007-12-31
This electronic diary was a great gift for my 6 year old! The diary is voice activated and once you've recorded her voice it only opens for her voice. Several things to keep in mind: When you record her voice on the diary make sure there is absolutely no background noise or the voice will not be recorded accurately. Also when your child records her voice she must use the same inflection and pitch when she tries to open the diary as she did when she recorded it. Her older sister was able to open the diary if she used the same inflection and since their voice is similar, it opened for her too. However, it did not open for anyone else's voice. The little sheet of paper that the diary holds to write in is small but we bought an extra pad of paper(the size of small post-it-notes) to fit inside. Overall it was a cool gift and my child uses it all the time.
- Fun novelty item
     By A3Q7JZO110O2HA on 2007-12-31
This is a fun novelty item - not for the serious diary-keeper, but great for my 6-year-old who wants to lock her brother & sister out of her toy. As with other reviews, the voice recognition is not great (sometimes it will open with the wrong word, entirely, if you use the same lilt in your voice as the original word was recorded). Even this hasn't diminished our daughter's love for the toy & the removable dog. Extra note paper templates are available on the Hasbro website to download/print.
- frustrating
     By A1FNVRQZCCCZ0T on 2008-01-11
Like others have said, this toy is very frustrating. I returned one already because I could not get it to hold a password. It just kept opening just by pressing the button. The new one I got is pretty much the same but I did find that you have to hold the diary at least 5 inches away from your mouth to enter the password. It is still a very frustrating thing for my daughter because sometimes it still just opens without even entering the password. So much for her "secret" diary.
- Daughter loves it..
     By ANT6D64BVBPW1 on 2007-12-26
It was the greatest gift my daughter recieved this year even though she got better stuff in my eyes nothing went everywhere with her like the diary did.
- toy just ok
     By A2AR1VNEFA4SOL on 2007-12-28
The idea is cute and my daughter loves it but it won't keep the password. You have to keep resetting it. She would use it more if the password function worked. Her best friend has the same thing and her password doesn't work either.
- not happy
     By A1RFV7RDI99RJ0 on 2007-12-29
The voice recognition locking/unlocking system works hardly ever. This is one of the very few things my daughter really requested for Christmas and we're both very disappointed.
- not sure I'd recommend: disappointing
     By A1RDTI29XXRQER on 2007-12-29
My 8 year old BEGGED for this. She got it for Christmas. She was so excited to write her deepest feelings down and have them secret. Now all she has is a diary that her older brother and younger sister can get into since it doesn't work. We've tried NUMEROUS times to "reset". Different passwords, different batteries, nothing works. Seems like a waste of money. A pad and pencil could do the same since nothing is "secret".
- My granddaugher is happy
     By A1QSC14HSIAFX7 on 2007-12-30
The toy is what she expected and I liked the price and convenience of not having to go to Toys R Us.
- Not worth what it cost!
     By AGI74G447BH2H on 2007-12-31
What a bummer. No matter how many times we tried we couldn't get the password to work!! Not even an adult could make it work. Plus... it's hardly a diary... it should be called "wish my password worked notebook" as there is just a tiny pad of paper inside with only 20 pieces of paper in it. For how much this thing cost it doesn't do what it was designed to do..... keep others out. The darn thing opens for anyone. Save your money!!! Don't buy this toy!!!!!
- it's a great toy
     By AHS9P8X453VYT on 2007-12-31
I bought this toy for my daughter. She loves it.Finally she has something to hide from me.I cannot open the electronic diary even though I know the password.Only my daughters voice will unlock the diary. It is great.
- Kind of disappointing
     By A3CWF36R38VLO9 on 2007-12-31
My 6 year old and I were quite disappointed with this toy. The whole gimmick for this toy is the password protecting dog-which rarely, if ever works. Had this worked, we would have rated it much higher and been happier. It was a low-light of our Christmas morning.
- Fun , but voice rec needs some work
     By A3W3U1GEXL5J8W on 2008-01-01
This is one item my girls couldn't wait to get and try. But they are quite disappointed with how it works, rather, doesn't work. This diary is supposed to open by the owners voice and only their voice - but my husband was able to change his voice and speak like a little girl and it opened! We were playing around and my husband was just picking with the girls! We did't expect the diary to open. My girls were really sad. They really need to work on this issue.
- My daughter loves it but...
     By A1OIPKEQP3P36X on 2008-01-02
The batteries die amazingly fast. The paper is quite small & it isn't really practical for use as a diary. My daughter uses it to keep "treasures" like notes & stickers from her friends rather than utilizing it for a diary. She loves it & that's what we wanted.
