MGA Zapf Creation Baby Born, Mommy Look I Can Swim Dollx$34.99
    (34 reviews)
Best Price: $39.99 $34.99
Just place this amazing doll in the water and she'll begin moving her arms and kicking her legs. She really swims! Set her arms in a swimming pose and she begins swimming when placed in water. Watch her paddle along the surface of the water with her face turned to the side. Dress her up in fun accessories when she's out of the water. Doll comes with slip-on mermaid tail, pair of flip-flop sandals, sunglasses, starfish water and squeaker toy, and headband. Measures 13" tall. Requires 3 "AAA" batteries, not included. Baby Born is ready to go for a swim. Just pose her head and arms in the correct position, put her in the water, and she knows what to do. This doll is recommended for children age three and older. It's Fun to Watch Her in the Water Baby Born has sensors on her tummy that cause her to automatically start swimming the minute she hits the water, so there's no switch to worry about and no need to wind anything up. Just insert three AAA batteries (not included) in her back, and Baby Born is ready to swim. Your little girl will have fun taking the doll into the bathtub or pool with her. After Baby Born's swim or bath, dry her off, slide her feet into flip-flops, and cover her up with her mermaid skirt. If it's sunny, her headband and sunglasses will protect her sensitive eyes.
Baby Born automatically starts swimming when she touches water. View larger. | | What We Think Fun Factor:
Durability: (what this means)
The Good: Doll actually swims, easy to operate
The Bad: Loud motor
In a Nutshell: Easy for a child to use, fun to play with | At a Glance Ages: 3 and older Requires: 3 AAA batteries | | | She Is a Strong Swimmer The doll is constructed of hard plastic with fully posable limbs and a head that turns 360 degrees. Embedded on the front of the doll are two very small sensors that, as soon as they touch water, cause the arms and legs to move. Baby Born is a vigorous swimmer; she moves her arms in full circles while kicking her legs. The design of this toy is excellent: The doll keeps her face out of the water and remains afloat as if she's actually swimming. Her clothing is bright and cheerful, and her pink nylon bathing suit dries quickly after removal. A matching sequined mermaid skirt (it covers her feet in a split fishtail) matches the bathing suit and gives her an outfit to wear when she's not in the water. Her accessories include flip-flops, sunglasses, and a headband. A small problem with the doll's sunglasses is that they fall off easily and don't fit properly across her nose. She Swims Fast, but Not Far For ideal balance, the manufacturer recommends holding the doll underwater until all the air bubbles disappear through the holes in her back. However, the doll's performance was excellent even without removing the excess air. In the event your three-year-old forgets the air-removal step, the doll should swim fine and evenly, without becoming unbalanced or listing to one side. For optimum results, it's best to have enough water in the tub (or pool) so the doll's legs can kick freely without coming into contact with a hard surface. Touching the bottom of the tub can cause her to swim crookedly. This, however, is not an issue with adequate water levels. Though the doll's form is excellent and she really does resemble a swimmer, she doesn't actually travel--a positive thing in general because it's the doll's activity that will appeal to your child, not the number of laps Baby Born completes. One minor quirk is that the motor powering this doll is very loud. What's in the Box Doll, bathing suit, mermaid skirt, flip-flops, sunglasses, headband, starfish.

A One-trick Pony By A3U9R3P0L14CPH on 2007-10-09
My 5 year old daughter received this for a birthday gift. Grandma paid nearly $50. She was really excited to try it out in the bathtub. Once you tilt the doll's head and put her arms up, she is ready to go. When she "senses" the water, she starts to swim, kicking and rotating her arms and head like a crawl stroke. She doesn't go very straight or fast. The problem comes when you want to just play with her or give her a bath, like the directions suggest. Once her water sensors are activated, she starts to swim and as long as she is in the water, she continues to swim, which is annoying if you just want to play or give her a bath. There is no off button. Maybe it would be more fun in a swimming pool.
Loved by our 4 year old By A2BX8GOW35YWV1 on 2007-10-13
I purchased this doll for my 4 year old daughter and she absolutely loves it. "Julie" has earned top privileges among the doll collection. Many of my daughter's doll clothes fit "Julie" so she has an outfit for all occasions.
I didn't know what to expect of this doll as far as durability. Now that she's been played with a lot, she seems to be standing up to her 4 year old mom just fine. Her arms, legs and head move freely, even though they are designed to move in the water. When she is swimming, if one of her limbs or head is held, she will just make a clicking noise, no harm done. There seems to be a slip mechanism inside her to prevent injury while swimming at the hands of a very young mother. She comes with good instructions - follow them and she should live a long life.
Bottom line - This is a very good doll, a little on the pricey side, but guaranteed to make any little girl a happy mom - and that's priceless.
SO cute! my kids have a blast w/ it! By A1XRK0QSFX9BZX on 2007-10-12
We just got this toy a few weeks ago. It is SO cute. My kids absolutely love it! The only problem is that they get so excited in the bath that they splash a lot! lol I do agree that it would be easier to have in a pool, but even a kiddie-pool would work great!
Not worth the money, but kinda fun By A68LY0QC1LGMB on 2008-04-15
I recently gave this as a gift to my four year old, and she enjoys it somewhat, but so far we've only been able to use it in the tub. It might be fun to try in the pool, because it just propels itself around, nonstop. The lack of an off switch is a big problem, because sometimes the kids just want the baby to stay still so she can be bathed.
CAUTION: my daughter just discovered a semi-hazardous aspect to this toy. Somehow she reclined on top of it in the bath as it was swimming, and the doll's arm continued to move back and forth (up and down?) in a swimming motion. In doing so, it rapidly tangled in my daughter's hair and wrapped up its entire length till it was all the way up to my daughters scalp. It didn't stop and just kept yanking and yanking, producing SCREAMING. Once I got the doll out of the water and it stopped moving, it wasn't impossible to untangle. I got the hair unsnarled with loads of conditioner, but it was no fun. If your daughter has really long hair like mine does, watch out.
Skeptical Mom By A1ENAKS69SVE42 on 2008-09-04
I didn't think I could waste the money on this toy since I saw a lot of negative reviews. My in-laws went ahead and bought it for my daughter's 6th birthday and she loved it! We've had it for three months and she has played with the baby in the pool and the bathtub with no problems. She doesn't really swim far but my daughter doesn't care.
This is a great toy and girls will love because it's just fun and silly! All her friends like to play with it too.
- Baby Born Mommy Look I can Swim Doll: The Review
     By AFZU8NH7U19RA on 2007-12-04
Hello once again parents and kids! Today we are going to review baby born mommy look I can swim doll. This doll is just like the normal baby born except it swims. There are sensors on the doll that make it swim and stuff when it senses water. Some customers complained that when their kid was trying to give it in the bath in the baby born bathtub and its sensors started making the doll swim when water touched its body. If you have the baby born bathtub and would like baby born to use it properly, I would suggest getting the normal baby born instead. If you have questions about her functions, I am working on writing a review for the normal baby born too so you can read it soon. This doll comes with a swimsuit,a really wierd looking mermaid tail thingie, some freaky glasses, flip flops and a toyish thing. Oh yeah it also comes with the headband it is wearing. People say the doll is hard to use the doll in a bathtub and you can only get the full effect in a swimming pool. Read the other four reviews before purchasing the doll and my review on the normal one. -Allie age 13
- Broken Toy
     By A21HGX1HH8SM92 on 2008-01-01
I searched high and low for this hard to find toy, paid more than it was worth on Amazon, and my poor little girl is so disappointed because it does not work, it's broken! You should be ashamed of yourself.
- This should be for older children
     By A6FV3N6IJ3VFY on 2008-05-24
We got it for our 3 year old daughter and gave it to her on the day of her little sisters birth as a gift from her new sister. My husband took the doll and 3 yr old home that night from the hospital and went straight to the tub. She was terrified of it to the point my husband had to take the batteries out to make it stop moving. Since then- I've tried everything to get it to work again. I've put in new batteries, I've submerged it, nothing- it stopped working. Not sure if once the seal was broken for changing the batteries that it stopped or the fact that my daughter thought the doll could do aerobics and splits that it will no longer work. The legs make a clicking noise when moved which she thought was great- but now because of that- we have an expensive doll that doesn't swim. Maybe this should be for older children.
- Not in chlorinated pool water!
     By A3AF8OF7R50HMI on 2008-11-25
My three year old was dying to get this for months. She got it as a gift, and used it first in the bathtub, then at our local YMCA pool. The baby worked 3-4 times, then simply stopped. We inserted fresh Engergizer batteries, nothing. We called the 800 number, and was rudely told that putting the baby in chlorinated pool water voids the warranty.
- So much fun!
     By A1IL7OZTSC0MDP on 2007-12-31
I got this swim doll for my 4 year old granddaughter for Christmas (2007). She LOVES the doll and watching it swim is so much fun. I am disappointed that all of the accessories that I bought with it are NOT for this doll. There was nothing in any descriptions that said "for the larger doll." I bought the bathing suit outfit and it is hugh on this doll. Also, the feeding set is NOT for this doll - the pacifer is obviously for a larger mouth doll. I feel like I wasted a lot of money on all of the extras that I thought were to go with this doll. I would like to suggest that there be some sort of description telling which doll the item is for. Thanks, Mimi
- Little Swimmer
     By A1GQVXVHL20ZXG on 2008-05-12
Bought this for my niece for her birthday. I was hesitant because it is a little pricey and not really sure if she would work like they show on TV. The doll is smaller than she appears on TV but she does really swim and she was a hit with my niece. Would recommend to a friend.
- My girls LOVE it!
     By A1EJFB1PZOVK8B on 2008-06-23
We got each of my daughters (3 & 5) this doll for their birthday, and they LOVE it. They play with it in the pool and the bathtub. Has worked with no problems every time!
- Stopped Working After Just a Few Uses
     By A3935Y4NUO7YM9 on 2008-06-26
I am SO disappointed and angry that I spent so much on a toy that stopped working almost immediately. I've changed the batteries, I've made sure her head is turned, I've put her arms and legs in position, I've submerged her---she just won't work. My daughter is oddly not heartbroken, because she just likes to have a baby doll in the bath, but I am not happy that I spent nearly $40 for something that broke immediately.
I saw another review like this and wondered if I should take a pass on the toy. Instead I took a chance. My mistake!
- Swimming baby
     By A18QVFLUE01WSJ on 2008-09-17
My granddaughter loved the swimming baby so much, we purchased one for her friend as a gift. It is a little pricey for a birthday gift, but her friend is that special. I would probably buy another as a gift. GRANDMA CONNIE
- Satisfied
     By A2CSTZMN66T6X3 on 2007-11-24
My daughter wanted this toy for her birthday. She likes the doll. The doll does work better in a larger swimming area (such as a pool). It can't go too far in a bathtub. She's still really cute.
- take it for what it is worth
     By A21R8HZA8ZNKN4 on 2007-12-28
This is a cute toy that my 2 daughter's have enjoyed in the tub so far, since we haven't been in a pool yet. I believe it would be more fun in a larger body of water, but so far my girls haven't complained! Is it the best made toy out there for the money, no, but my girls really are having fun with it and to me, that is what matters!
- Fun baby doll
     By A2KO2CTNFVBW3Z on 2007-12-29
The girls,6 & 3, love this doll. She swims in the bathtub with them and they are having a ball with her. As for durability, I hope it holds up because it is definetly a favorite doll!
- Fun Bath Toy
     By A1TN47DLZ7MKY9 on 2007-12-31
I bought this for my 3 and 5 year old girls for Christmas. They both think it's a lot of fun to play with in the tub.
My ony gripe is no on/off switch. The doll starts swimming when she gets wet and doesn't stop until you take her out of the water. Sometimes they would like to play with her without the swimming feature. Oh well, still a cute doll. Would buy again.
- It is what it is
     By A1WCR5KK18QZ9J on 2007-12-31
This is a cute toy for the bath or pool. Because of the dolls's hard body it isn't a cuddle toy although a determined little mommy may manage at least for a while.
What we have found is that once again the bath has become our 7 yr olds favorite place. As if it ever lost it's draw for our water bug.
The doll is very well made and surpasses the same type of toys that I had and longed for as a kid.
We can't wait to get her in the pool for a swim. I'm sure she'll be a big hit amoung our DD & her peers.
- 4 year old daughter likes it --not favorite toy.
     By A3LMUNKZLPQZYM on 2008-01-02
My 4 year old daughter wanted this toy for a Christmas present, we did get it for her and she likes it but, after the first bath she took with it-she seemed to be done with it.
The only problem I see with it is that sometimes she does not want it to swim she just wants to play with it but, once it is in the water it will just start swimming and she can not play with it.
Over all she was glad to get it and im glad we did get it even if she only plays with it 2 times her face on christmas morning was well worth it!!!

My granddaughter loves her doll. She puts her in the bath tub with her and plays with her before time to get the soap. You just place the doll in the water and she takes off swimming. She is looking forward to playing with her in the pool this summer.
- My daughter loved it!
     By A15U90701Z5SAX on 2008-01-02
This is the only thing my daughter asked for Christmas and it was hard to find in stores. I was thrilled to find it here and even more thrilled to watch her playing with it in the bath tub. It will be more fun in a pool where there is more room and you do have to be careful for it to be dried out after it is in the bath but she loves!
- Fun idea
     By A2QNQKUZUTT8SP on 2008-01-03
The doll was very much anticipated by my daughter, and she was so happy to receive it. She played with it in the tub once, and now she is over it. I do not like that you have to position her arms correctly for her to look like she is swimming as opposed to flopping around. Also, she is kind of noisy and she is a little awkward for a three year old to take in and out of the tub if she does not want her to swim anymore. She is very cute, and I'm sure she will be played with again, however I don't think she was worth the 30 or so dollars I paid for her.
- Enjoyable!!!!
     By A338IIX49AN9PS on 2008-01-07
My daughter asked for this two weeks before Christmas. I had never even heard of it. I was pleased to see that it could be used as a regular baby out of the tub. She has a similar one that is not a baby, but a mermaid. This one had the dress to put on and it was adorable. She loves it, as does my 2yr old. My only complaint is that it swims whenever it hits the water, she keeps trying to lay it on a "raft", but it keeps swimming away.
Overall good baby.
- She really can swim
     By A1M92AO1MY0Y0Q on 2008-01-07
This is a must have toy for any little girl! She does swim in the bathtub, we have not used her in a pool. Her bathing suit and mermaid skirt are cute.
- Great Toy.
     By AGB1TDOKBWLQT on 2008-01-07
We bought this doll for my daughter and niece. They both love the doll. My daughter took her in to the bathtub and she swam great! We can't wait to use her in the pool. The doll does take a bit to dry off but that's it. I read the other reviews and had none of thier problems. The doll turns off as soon as you take her out of the tub. The only think I can say is that the doll is a bit expensive. It's a small doll and a hard doll. This is not the type of doll to cuddle with. Other than that, my 5 year old is thrilled!

this doll is fun you have to keep in mind that this is not a toy that you can caryy around all of the time it is a SWIMMING BABY so it is Most fun in the bathtub or pool I have 4 year old boy girl twins and they love to play with it in the tub!
- Baby Born Swim Doll
     By A14J7P4KGI90OL on 2008-01-08
My 3 year old wanted this doll after seeing commercials for it. It seems to be exactly like it was on tv. She was so glad to get this for Christmas. It really made her happy because it's the one thing she truly wanted from Santa. She loves taking a bath with her every morning. I would rate this as an excellent product for little girls that love baby dolls.
- Kind of annoying
     By A3CGKGADXVFUQ6 on 2008-01-09
How can there be no on or off switch? This doll just goes on out of no where. It is pretty loud & at least a couple times a day or worse in the middle of the night it just goes on. It scares you when your not expecting this weird loud noise. My kids do like it but they get annoyed at it to for turning on with no one touching it. Maybe we will take the batteries out & save it for the Summer in the pool. A little fun in the tub but gets old quick. Pool probably will be funner since has more room, but I'm not really in the mood to keep taking the batteries out. So for that reason alone it's getting 2 stars. If more fun in pool I will upgrade the review.
- Emma's Christmas doll
     By ATMFL9DS8AY8F on 2008-01-12
This doll was a wish for Christmas, so far we've used it once at an indoor pool and it was fun for my daughter(5 yrs.). We look forward to this summer when we can take it to the pool. It's hard to have enough room in the tub to use this doll there, but so far we have had no problems with this toy. It shuts off immediately when out of water and I didn't think the motor was too loud like some other reviews stated.
