Goal Goal Goal!!! By AGDKSHVJCAKBA on 2007-10-12
While I was waiting for FIFA 08 to arrive at my house I was remembering all the good and bad times I had with FIFA 07. The good was the awe-inspiring licensing feat, and the realism of stadium crowds. The bad was the abismal graphics and gameplay. When FIFA 08 finally arrived I was ecstatic to see all the proper transferences were made and that the graphics had been improved on. I was wary of the gameplay though but that first match changed my perspective. The gamplay was tight the AI was able. All in all a very good game.
IT JUST RULES!!!!!!!!! By A3L3JIUEWJRD19 on 2007-10-13
I got this on Friday of the week it was released and I was going hold off for a bit and I am glad I didn't. Here is the problem I have with this game though. You can't get anything done because it just hooks you in and I am a new fan of Soccer and this is a great way to learn for people like me and also good for kids as the content is very family friendly.
I know this will make some mad, but I was happy to see David Beckham put in the game and I love the added leauges such as the eircom leaugue of Ireland. That is actually what inspired me to get this copy. Just alot of fun and if your a fan of the NHL series this is really for you.
FIFA '08 Improves Upon The Previous Year's Version By A3VXR9RQHZXPYE on 2007-12-21
This is a thoroughly enjoyable video game, and the Manager's Mode, which I'll be reviewing, is even more addictive (and time-consuming, but in a good way). This game features more than 15,000 players in 30 officially licensed leagues around the world. The manager mode allows the player to take over a club and guide its fortunes on and off the pitch to almost the tiniest details. You have to worry about training your players, keeping them fit, and ensuring that you have sufficient success to meet the board's expectations or else you'll get the boot. The best thing I like about this particular game mode is the ability to scout for new young talent or develop it in your own youth academy and then put them on the pitch to see if they can play with the big boys. I highly recommend this game to anyone who really enjoys soccer as it'll provide hours and hours of entertaining fun.
Great Game with Good Replay Value By AFCMS0HTJO2P4 on 2007-11-10
FIFA '08 has added multiple features which makes for a longer lasting game this year. The biggest addition is Be A Pro mode, where you can create a player or play as an existing star. You will only control one player and you are given challenges each game. Unlike regular play, you must rely on the computer to get jobs done as well. This is descriptive of the quality of computer AI as well. It is vastly improved over years before. '08 AI players make intelligent runs, win tackles, and are quick on the ball. Manager Mode is expanded, and very fun.
The downsides to the game are small, but worth mentioning. Be A Pro mode still has some kinks in it but the effort is appreciated, be ready to be frustrated when you cannot control a defender in a 1 v 1 situation. Goalies are outstanding this year, even more so than in years past, but FIFA has somewhat offset this by having a separate difficulty level for goalies.
Overall, the graphics are great, the pacing of the game is fantastic, and replay value is tremendous. This is not a game you will regret buying two weeks later.

The best fifa yet By A2OB7PPCBQYQ2O on 2008-01-27
This is probably the best fifa yet, however if you play the next gen versions (ps3, xbox360) you will be disappointed in the graphics. With that said, the gameplay is very good, and the new be be a pro mode is a remarkable innovation in football sim. The new manual cross and manual true pass makes the gameplay a bit more difficult than previous versions, but its a lot more realistic and hence a lot more fun to play. I would recommend this game to any soccer gamer.
- Beckham/Blanco, great soccer fun...
     By AC05OLIRGOS7P on 2007-12-26
People talk about Beckham being the big name in soccer right now, but I purchased this game for Mexican soccer sensation, Cuathemoc Blanco. Legend in Mexico, he now plays for the Chicago Fire. The MLS would do well to bring in more Mexican players. And they've made a fan out of me.
Which brings me to the game. I've played the game as a manager and enjoy having the suits gripe at me for losses and laud me for wins. The manager mode is very deep, including negotiations with teams for players, scouting reports, and other day-to-day office duties.
The gameplay is a lot of fun and, depending on the team and skill level of your game play, frustrating. I'm still picking up on the hundreds of subtle nuances of the game play and the manager mode. It's still fun, though.
All MLS and Mexican Soccer fans need to have this in their Playstation 2 library. Rayados/Fire forever...
- Still improving
     By A2EMUH7KYT6RN6 on 2008-03-26
FIFA has long been a fun game, but some have stated that FIFA was more arcade-style while its main competitor, Pro Evolution Soccer, was more realistic than FIFA. The people at EA Sports heard the detractors and have worked for the past couple years to make FIFA more realistic while keeping the fun intact. With this year's game, they have made further strides in this pursuit. While FIFA still may be a step behind PES in terms of realism, it is now a very slight step. The main improvements in the newest installment of the game include a smarter AI, lower scorelines (which in and of itself makes things more realistic), formations based upon each individual team, an improved passing system, and new leagues and teams. The new passing system is perhaps the biggest change and it does take time to master, but once you do you can make pinpoint passes that were not possible in previous versions of the game. Also on the plus side, the graphics are still very good on the PS2 version and the game is still fun to play. I've been playing FIFA for a long time, but have never been enough of a gamer to play it on the highest level of difficulty so I may not be the best reviewer, but I think the game is more challenging than past versions as well.
As for negatives, I have only two beefs with the game. One is that while the new, team-based formations are supposed to be based on fact, some are off. And I also wish that the user could customize formations a bit easier to move players around the pitch, but beyond that this is an excellent game. The second negative is that, again this may be perhaps I'm not a gamer, but the defenders on your team, whether you control them or not, are just awful. The computer's players will run all the way from midfield to the face of the goal and you're defenders won't be able to stop them. This happens even on the lowest difficulty levels. It means that you won't have many games where you win 6-0, but it also means you'll give up some cheap, bogus goals.
Even if you think PES is more realistic, FIFA is worth picking up and giving a try.
- Haven't been let down yet
     By A1NT0AEI1113LN on 2008-09-09
FIFA 08 doesn't let you down. It has all the top players in the sport and the graphics are great. If you are a soccer fan and love to play the sport, you'll enjoy the game!
- Similar to Fifa 07
     By A2BA6KE7094IUZ on 2007-11-08
If you already have FIFA 07, I wouldn't recommend to buy FIFA 08.
No real changes.
Graphics look the same.
THe only new thing is the possibility to control the same player (postion) for a full season.
- Great Game
     By A1SXYN8TTLC3B3 on 2007-12-11
Hey This is one of the best soccer games ever... it's so well done... and the graphics are awesome... this game is pretty much better than WE2008 (I own both games), If you want to enjoy an exiting soccer game, get sure and buy this one.

- Let's Be Realistic
     By A2OVEH1MDH5O2P on 2008-05-05
Fifa is the only choice you have if you care about playing a game with accurate info. Some complain about game play (unreasonably), but the real club and stadium names make this the only product you can really consider if you actually follow football/soccer. This is one of the top games on the market today, sport or otherwise. 4 stars because any yearly game could use some improvements from year to year.
Possible needs:
-More stadium names and physical accuracy
-More international squads
-More budgetary accuracy in managerial mode
- Sublte changes make a big difference
     By A4RZ8JC42IMZI on 2008-06-02
FIFA 08 on the PS2 may seem the same as FIFA 07 at first but turns out to be a significantly improved game in the end. With subtle improvements in graphics, gameplay and other aspects of the game it plays a smoother and more adventurous game of football than last year's version. Graphically, there seems to be more detail, specially noticeable on uniforms with wrinkles, badges, etc. The passing system is much improved from last year's iteration. Simple additions like be-a-pro mode gives this game more depht and longetivity. While not the most realistic football sim out there, it is still a great game. Overall, this edition of FIFA(PS2) is all about subtle changes that make a big difference and improvements in the right direction.
- sweet game!
     By A3I3M8BWJR1VUF on 2007-10-25
well to start of the gameplay is better than 07, but quite challenging with the improved AI. The thing that caught my attention about this new game was the added feature to play as a Pro-Coop , well thing is I thought u could creat your own footballer , but till I started it I realized you can only play a pro-footballer not your own created footballer. Which in the sense sucks! ,but the game is still fun. So I give it a 4 for a fun game.
- el Perro bermudez rules!!
     By A6YZRCVRR6OET on 2007-10-27
wow!...I bought the game cause the last fifa game I played was the fifa05 and couldn't wait to see the improvements on AI as well as the few but cool new movements...then I selected the Spanish mode since I'm Mexican and started playing America vs. Chivas well I was amazed to listen to the best Mexican narrator Enrique "Perro" Bermudez de la Serna narrating the game with his singular style and charisma is just awesome, just to listen el Perro narrate the games is worth buying this title. The chants by the crowds was also improved not so much the graphics...if you have enjoy previous fifa games you won't be disappointed by this one, and if you used to watch matches televised by Televisa and narrated by el Perro Bermudez you will just love this game like I do.......

This is a great game. The thing I like the most is the numbers of clubs you can choose to play. And yes, you can play Champions Cup in this game too. I am having lots of fun, especially in manager mode. I have bought several EA Fifa games and this is on the top two I have played. It is a must for football fans.
- Fifa 08
     By AEDEBN40RK76B on 2007-12-28
Bought this as a gift and the boys haven't stopped playing with it. There are so many additional features with trainings inbetween games and new ways to play, either as a team with friends or as a player on a team. If you liked FIFA 07 then you will really enjoy this one.
- great game
     By A120TR8BTJL27J on 2007-12-29
i used to play winning eleven, but they dont make it anymore for ps2, so i decided to go for fifa 08, and im glad i did it, its an awesome game, its more complicated than WE but once you know the game, its definetely more fun, i really recommend it
- The game is good,
     By A25T7CI8ZUGW6M on 2007-12-29
Don't get me wrong, I like it. After a few bouts with the pro manager seasons, I decided to finally do Co-Op, which I didn't do before because sadly it's limited - Your team doesn't get better, no transfers are made, and you can't even view the league table so WTF is the point of beating teams, right? It's like, play this many minutes and your player gets better.
Anyways, what I wanted to say is - Why on earth is it so hard to create a character who doesn't look like a Native American or an Asian? no offense, but did the developers actually try and make characters? the preset character they have is so ugly, you can't seem to change his face, eyes, and mouth - and they want us to play a whole season as that? Now THAT'S a realistic thought. Speaking of realism...
The game is okay.

This item was purchased as a Christmas gift for my nephew and when he opened it to use it, it is damaged. While he is playing the game, it freezes up not allowing him to contimue playing. I want to return it for an exchange. How do I go about this?

- Very Realistic
     By A2ZDC2ACIP7OKN on 2007-12-31
I went from playing Fifa 06 to Fifa 08 and I was amazed at how much it had changed. It is very realistic and challenging. The Be A Pro mode is also very fun. I played it with my brother and we had a blast. The new skills that you can perform are cool and the passing is great. It's very addicting and I could probably for hours.
- Solo jugue con el una vez
     By A2H2RNU5KCU80O on 2008-01-21
Creo que es un muy bonito juego y la descripcion del partido por Luis Enrique De La Cerna es espectacular, solo jugue con el una vez ya que lo compre para un amigo, pero creo que lo comprare para mi PS3, espero que aun sea mejor.
- FIFA08 is a good game but not enough.
     By A1KELGV6HIF433 on 2008-01-23
The game is good but we need more emotion. Also changing the configuration of the controls with respect to the previous versions put some incomodida who has already played before. The new options Online game is good but having to re-enter each time it finishes one game left some disagreement

My sons had a lot of fun playing the game. They couldn't wait to have it.
Now they play whenever they are allowed to play.
- Improving, but still flawed
     By A2H0CN45Z453F1 on 2008-05-12
This year I went with FIFA when I heard it was better than PES, but I'm rather disappointed. But I eventually had to ask myself: what good is having all the licensed players and teams if the gameplay isn't up to par? Since, however, most reviewers think it's the best, I'll just point out a few of my personal dislikes.
The biggest problem is the AI of your players, who play Ghandi-style soccer. Here's what I mean: my defenders like to step aside, run around in a circle, and start running behind the opposition attacker. Elsewhere, my players are rather reluctant to go after the ball. It does appear that they want to avoid it as much as possible, as if it carries tertiary syphillis. Consequently, they don't bother sticking out their foot to cut off a pass, picking up a loose ball in the box, etc., which makes the gameplay really frustrating. This is not helped by the fact that your players 1) have already started running in the wrong direction so it takes awhile to stop them and send them the right way, and 2) are dumbed down so they're all slower to begin with. Oh, and whenever they're so much as touched while dribbling, they'll stumble pitifully before stopping dead in their tracks and for a moment stare dumbfounded at the ball, which the other team now controls.
Secondly, it's near impossible to score from long range. Either it's off target or the keeper gets it. It takes a lot of fun out of the game when you always have to get into the box to score.
Also, the through pass function is completely worthless. The game makes you determine two variables when executing a through pass: direction and power. Not only is this hard to do when you're being pressed, the very concept of having to carefully gauge both aspects of the pass, in a fast paced environment like soccer where decisions are made in split seconds, is preposterous. The same goes for crosses. Since your attacking options are limited, you are forced to rely heavily on tricks -- which the developers deemed important enough to keep a tally on -- rather than teamwork and strategy.
Finally, they need to do a lot better job with the manager mode. It doesn't seem reasonable to me that you get paid differently depending on the outcome of a match, first of all. Also, it's extremely difficult to do transfers because players on the market are scarce. The biggest flaw, though, is the game not telling you how good a player is. Before I commit to purchasing a new striker, I want to make sure he comes with wonderful dribbling and finishing skills, but I don't see numbers, instead I see "???." In this case, I assume you are supposed to guess. Finally, rating players via a single number system ("OVR") is a blasphemous oversimplification, as each player has his strengths and weaknesses, which you need to know to use him effectively. A player's stats definitely need to be more comprehensive. Not FM-comprehensive, but at least PES-comprehensive.
After all is said and done, though, when scoring a goal and viewing the replay, it doesn't feel right to me, as if I didn't really earn it. The way that the ball is struck and the way that players move aren't convincing: it's slow, clumsy and easily predictable, and altogether feels artificial. I want my soccer game to be dynamic, fast paced, dramatic and hard won, and above all realistic. So I'm going back to PES, which has its share of problems but isn't as dumbed down. For me, playing FIFA 2008 felt like having Trisomy 21. Nevertheless, I give it two stars because of the superb commentary, great game music, and extensive number of licensed players, teams, leagues, and kits (which is quite impressive).
