Get a Klean Kanteen brand bottle instead By A1F9Z42CFF9IAY on 2008-01-12
The Siig water bottle is made out of aluminum. In order for aluminum to be safe to drink from, the inside needs to be coated with something, usually epoxy. So you are basically still drinking out of a plastic bottle! Also, if this bottle get's dented, the inside coating will crack without you knowing it and then aluminum is being leeched into your body.
I recommend the Klean Kanteen products instead. They are stainless steel which is totally safe and doesn't need to be coated with anything.
a great bottle at a good price By A2VOZX7YBT0D6D on 2008-05-19
I was a die-hard Nalgene bottle user. I owned at least a dozen of them, and never went anywhere without one. Until recently. With the questions regarding the safety of the plastic they were made from and with recent articles discussing issues with the buildup of germs that are recorded in many of these type of containers, I decided to make a switch. I love the fact that these are made of metal, especially since I have cracked more than one plastic bottle by dropping it or accidentally cooking it in the dishwasher. Even the Nalgene bottles do not handle the heat of the dishwashers well, and I have had them begin to get the little spiderweb cracks. Anyway, the metal bottle is tough, light-weight, and is easy to haul around. The 1 liter size, in my opinion, is best suited for either home/office use or serious backpacking applications. A liter of water can get heavy lugging it around all day. The .6 liter is perfect for people on the go that want to reduce their use of plastic bottles, but do not want to get weighted down. The metal bottles do well in the dishwasher, even with the small opening. I put it in there to sterilize it after I have cleaned it with the tablets. I also soak all my bottles and caps in light bleach water at least once a month...it is important to keep them as clean as possible, since water bottles can grow so many creepy crawlies. For the people that have complained that the threads are too sharp to drink from, either they need to send them back because they are defective or look at the way they are drinking from them. If you are trying to suck the water out to the point your lips are pulled into the bottle and are hitting the threads, you are not drinking from them correctly...try less suction and more pouring the water into your mouth. Also, other reviewers said that mold grew on their caps...unless you are leaving the bottles with stagnant water or leaving the caps on when they are damp inside, you should not be growing mold. Mold has to have a warm, damp environment to grow. After you clean them, leave the cap off until they are bone dry and then do no tighten the cap all the way down. Better yet, leave the caps off the bottle when they are empty. If you are growing mold, it has nothing to do with plastic, rubber, or metal...it has to do with the conditions the bottles are being kept in.
Overall, these are great items, rugged, light-weight, and help reduce the amount of plastic going into our landfills...personal recommendation, I get the caps with the loop on top, they are so easy to attach to book bags and belt loops that way....
Sigg 1.0 Liter Water Bottle By A1L4RDILGM7D9E on 2008-03-25
These bottles are very fashionable. They're light-weight and well made. I only have one complaint - drinking directly from the bottle is uncomfortable because of the sharp screw ridges. The ridges are inside the bottle where you might not think your lip would ever touch, but mine does just barely. I haven't cut my lip yet, but it's still unpleasant to feel those sharp ridges. I tried the Sport Top in order to avoid the ridges, but it doesn't work properly. Maybe I'll get used to the ridges eventually and not notice them anymore.
By the way, I docked two stars for the sharp ridges, and one more for the poor quality accessories that Sigg sells for these bottles (the useless Sport Top and a poorly-fitting insulated pouch), which were a waste of money.
Warning - Sigg plastic caps encourage Black Mold growth! By A267HF49TKIWHC on 2008-05-07
! WARNING ! ALL of our Sigg plastic water bottle caps have grown black mold even though cleaned regularly. Here in Florida plenty of hydration is needed as we live, work, and play on the Gulf coast. We purchased 4 beautiful aluminum Sigg water bottles about 6 months ago. All have been used only as water (both tap and filtered) containers. All have grown BLACK MOLD on the plastic bottle caps. The mold is NOT removed or prevented from growing when washed with the Sigg cleaning tablets. Washing with clean hot/warm water after use does NOT prevent mold growth. Other bottles we use (such as the Kleen Kanteen stainless steel) have had NO MOLD growth.
Here is something better By A2BLITJITO97N5 on 2007-12-12
Need a metal water bottle without the flaws of the Sigg? Try the THERMOS 2465P STAINLESS STEEL HYDRATION BOTTLE here on Amazon. I found it to be perfect for my needs.
- This product stinks,,, literally and makes water taste even worse.... don't buy it
     By A1G8MVJXV9ECFZ on 2007-08-31
Furthermore.... I bought two of this type thing trying to get away from plastic..... they took forever to get to me and I have tried everything I can to get the nasty taste out of them... Nothing works, so I have written a few times to Amazon,,,totally ignored .... I want to return them.. I have only had them a couple of weeks,,, ignored... maybe Bazo's sold Amazon, maybe we need to stop buying from Amazon with this kind of lack of service?? But this product is nasty awful.... don't buy it!!!!!
- Great water bottle
     By AOG7Q0L18VY26 on 2007-09-09
This is a really good water bottle if you don't want to use plastic bottles. It holds a lot. A little hard to carry around, but I don't have that much problem with it. It does sweat quite a bit when filled with cold liquids, so you need to be careful with it around papers in the office/classroom. Being a teacher, I solved this problem by enclosing it in a footie sock. We do this at school with the kids' water bottles.
- excellent water bottle
     By A37L9JQ7IY53OI on 2007-10-01
I was looking for a nice, narrow mouth non-plastic water bottle and after trying out several, finally found this one and it is by far the best of the bunch. The bottle itself is sturdy and although I have dropped it, it has not dented. The narrow mouth makes all the difference for me and the water tastes great. I feel good about drinking more water, not having the leaching problems of plastic bottles, and not contributing to the production and disposal of plastic bottles. On a side note, the colors and patterns that SIGG offers are really fun, too!
- Best water bottle on earth... so far...
     By AAAHT7IZIAUA5 on 2008-03-28
I did quite a bit of research before buying this water bottle. I've been drinking from plastic bottles for years now, and was quite disturbed to learn that chemicals leach into the water. Twenty years from now, I think history is going to look back regretfully on the last fifty years as "The Chemical Age." We are just starting to understand the grievous impact all these chemicals have had on our bodies and on our planet.
From what I've read, glass is actually the safest thing to drink from, but I've had a really hard time finding a suitable glass bottle that I can carry around when I'm out and about. Sigg seems to be a close second. The baked on enamel coating is very durable and has been proven to not leech any chemicals (here's an interesting discussion about the safety of Sigg bottles: http://www.dld123.com/q&a/index.php?cid=1796). The first few times I drank from the Sigg, there was a slightly metallic taste, but that went away very quickly.
Until I find some sort of glass bottle that is practical enough to carry around, this Sigg is going to be my water bottle of choice...
- Optimum Large Water Bottle

This is an upscale designer water bottle, top of the line, and so much fun. The designs of Sigg's water bottles are gorgeous, from the plain, solid color bottles (like this one), to others with intricate designs. I switched from regular plastic water bottles because of health concerns, even though I thought a permanent bottle like this would take more work to maintain. These do necessitate regular cleaning (I clean mine every day), but having something so beautiful to drink from makes the cleaning less of a chore. Sort of like my rings, glasses, and watch, I now consider my Sigg personal water bottle a vital accessory, reminding me to drink more water, making a statement about my values, and expressing myself with a special design.
Sigg of Switzerland water bottles are very high quality, made of light aluminum on the outside, slightly insulated, and covered with a special powder coat on the inside that prevents any leaching whatsoever, unlike plastic and polycarbonate water bottles. They are light, durable, and perfect for any activity. Well water tastes spectacular in these bottles, just like from the tap. They do dent if dropped on a hard surface at a particular angle, but Sigg fans (including me) view this as a type of "seasoning", so that your bottle acquires character. The dents are on the outside layer of the bottle, not the inside layer and so don't interfere with any functionality.
Sigg bottles come with several different types of tops. This bottle has a screw top, which I prefer. I don't mind unscrewing the top when I want a drink. It is totally leak proof, which is important to me. The top is pretty and can be hooked onto a carabineer. If you ever lose the top, you can buy them separately.
Sigg makes their personal water bottle in many sizes. I have quite a few, and like this 1L size for my car and other uses that require a lot of water (like a long hike).
This bottle may seem expensive, but it is so durable that you can plan on it lasting many years. I consider Sigg bottles both an accessory and an investment in my health, so they are well worth it value-wise for me.
Note that this water bottle should not be used to contain boiling water, as this will damage the outer coating. It also cannot be left in the freezer, as it may crack. It can be used for carbonated beverages, if you leave about a half inch of room at the top.
Highly recommended.

- Sigg Water Bottle
     By on 2008-02-08
Pros: Light weight, easy to carry around, convenience, does not affect the taste of the water- clean taste, you only taste water, not the bottle
Cons: Cannot be washed in a dishwasher- must be hand washed (I use the Sigg brush to clean it, also available on Amazon). The mouth opening is just that- a hole that is a bit wide and sometimes causes some spilling because it is sometimes hard to drink out of. Maybe they should sell an attachment mouthpiece like they use on sports bottles.
- Perfect size for the office
     By AI9PQ8YQU6OSI on 2008-04-24
I love this bottle because it does not have any smells or odors after continuous refills. Keeps the water really cold. Does not fit in car cup holders. Only other problem was how Amazon packaged the product. I bought 2 bottles and there was no foam wrapping between the 2 bottles. No major dents on the bottles, but some scratches and visible line marks.
- Thanks to Sigg, having water is stylish and fun all over again! Don't keep consuming gallons of soda :)
     By A2P88WOIKQK8KJ on 2008-04-28
I bought 2 Sigg bottles for myself and my spouse and we just love them!! I also bought the cleaning tablets and am especially happy using them because they are biodegradable - they fizz off a minty-odor once I add one tablet to my bottle containing water and in just over 1/2 hr (as recommended by Sigg) it does its trick. One con - we bought the 1 liter bottles and they don't quite fit into the cup holders of our Toyota Prius and we now know better than to keep them in the cup holders (keep falling off). Perhaps the smaller bottle sizes (I think there are 2 smaller sizes, but the smallest is for kids) may fit better. We will definitely buy more of these. Also, the colors are Sigg-tastic - I especially love the sea-green one I have.
- good, but can definitely be improved
     By A14390VF5BYLZO on 2008-06-12
The Sigg Water bottle is light, good looking, leak-proof,and delivers a fresh clean-tasting drink of water. As far as I'm concerned though, it has a major flaw. There should be a way to secure the top after opening. I want to use it for active outside sports and can't always stop for the time it takes to open, drink, and get the top back on. Who wants to put on a top that has fallen in the dirt? And one bad bounce means I've lost the top entirely.
- Can't Take the Taste
     By A1Z763Y6ZLF5CZ on 2008-10-15
As a concept, the SIGG bottle is great. The design is nice, it's metal (not plastic), sturdy, with a solid "looped" top. But in practice, it's not all it's cracked up to be. I've owned mine for about a year now. At first I really liked it and although I could notice a "unique" smell and taste occasionally, as long as it never got even a little warm (don't even think about leaving it in the sun), the flavor was minor. Over time though, It's gotten to where I can barely stand to drink the water I put in even if it's only been in there for 30 minutes.
My understanding is that SIGG bottles use a polycarbonate lining - This is what Nalgenes are made of! I believe they are exploring other lining options (after the brewhaha about BPEs), but I would recommend a simple stainless steel bottle over a SIGG. Not only are they about 25% of the price, but they won't have the flavor issues of these bottles.
One final complaint. If you're switching from a Nalgene, you'll immediately notice that you if you don't twist the cap all 273 rotations it won't be fully closed and will leak. Unlike the 3/4 twist of a Nalgene.
Clearly I don't love mine. But they are stylish.
- great product

well i think its the best looking sports bottle in the market..its so stylish guys in the gym always keep on asking me where did u get this bottle?...i m giving 4 star rating because it does not keep the water temp very well.....
- Lightweight bottle that doesn't leave an aftertaste
     By A1T4J0KW3A83K4 on 2008-02-09
After reading up on the dangers of Nalgene bottles (I used them for years before I learned of the dangers), I decided to give Sigg a shot. Not only are they extremely lightweight, but they are durable, and hook nicely to a backpack with a carabiner. My 1.0 liter bottle even fits into my purse, so I can take it to work. Be sure to close it tightly to avoid any leakage.
Love them! Bought three more for family. Definitely pick up the cleaning brushes (the small one also works well to clean my teapot).
- perfect
     By A3SN2RQ5ZCYRXW on 2008-02-12
this is the best. great price and great buy. no weird tastes... i also boughtt the brushes to clean this really good....my local stores have an off brand for about the same price and it is a third of the size of this one.... get a SIGG today and stop buying plastic bottled drinks and save the environment and your money.
- Stylish AND Ecofriendly
     By AIGQW09ZCRME1 on 2008-04-05
I love my water bottle! It is lightweight when empty, fairly heavy when full, but its hard to avoid that. It doesn't smell or make my water taste bad. The cap is secure so it doesn't leak, and my water stays really cold. I do have a few dents in it already, but the bottle is still usable. I love how it looks and I love how I have reduced my impact on the environment by not buying disposable water bottles anymore. Before I thought using a reusable bottle would be a hassle, but in only a few weeks I have successfully implemented it into my routine and I will never buy a plastic disposable bottle again! I recommend a Sigg bottle for anyone who wants to be practical, stylish, and green.
- Highly Recommended
     By A2O1A79X34QAWJ on 2008-04-21
I love this water bottle. It is so light-weight. I purchased the transparent blue color which is awesome. It is easy to clean, just wash with hot soapy water. I've purchased bottles from Sigg before, but this is my new favorite. I used to drink out of plastic water bottles for the last ten or fifteen years. I recently found out that the bisphenal A is leached into drinking water from the plastic. Bisphenal A is an endocrine disruptor and mimics estrogen in the body. Don't drink from plastic water bottles. Sigg is highly recommended!
- very easy to dent
     By A13C6VGJ4WIUUG on 2008-05-13
these bottles are light weight and have no adverse taste associated with them. however, they are very easy to dent. i ordered two, one of which had a large dent when it arrived from amazon. the other was dented within two weeks. the replacement for the bottle that was dented on delivery was dented after just a few weeks.
- Nice bottle; spare the dents please
     By A18NMIQH8PF2FI on 2008-05-19
Water bottle is very nice. Sturdy and light. Unfortunately it arrived with several small but very noticeable dents in the side. We were not impressed when we opened the box.
- Great bottle!
     By A823HFLQBHY91 on 2008-05-22
After deciding to replace our Nalgene bottles, I researched metal bottles from various manufacturers. Sigg bottles consistently scored high in reliablility and satisfaction, so we bought a few of them. My only nit is that the lids are easy to drop and maybe lose, so an included lanyard would be nice. But aside from that minor complaint, the bottles are light, odor/taste-less, and dead sexy, to quote someone famous!
- nice bottle
     By A3J2OIZWA02CON on 2008-07-07
We've been using Siggs for a few weeks now and are happy with their performance. They get dented rather easily if you're not careful and they don't keep drinks cold very long when exposed to warm weather, but otherwise, I have no complaints. The textured finish on the "touch" version is a bit easier on the hands than the slippery "classic".
- These bottles are only good for junk
     By A2MLF1LXADQN4I on 2008-07-08
My issues - bottle filled w/cold water from water cooler made my bottle so cold, I actually could not hold onto to it until several minutes later (with cap off) - If cap had been left on I am sure it would have taken longer for it to be touchable. Then the bottle became wet with condensation and leaked that condensation all over my desk under the bottle and around it. On top of it all I do feel like I have to handle the thing so carefully and not drop it because I want to insure I don't dent it. I have only had it a short time but I feel the pressure of being afraid of dropping it - because it's so expensive and so easy to dent. Not worth the hassle for certain.
- Dents easily, dispenser top difficult to use
     By A1OA06LPHX3HGG on 2008-07-09
The plastic bottle scare must be a boon to SIGG and other metal bottle makers. While I'm skeptical there's a real issue with plastic, I bought one of these for my wife and one for my teenage son since they were concerned.
It took my son one day to put two large dents in his, one big enough to effect capcity a bit, and I can't see any way to fix the dents.
SIGG might make different dispenser tops, mine has a four sided white and gray cross shaped gizmo on top that dispenses water when you twist it in a certain way (the word "CLOSE" is written in almost microscopic letters) and press it down, hard. It's almost impossible to dispense water at a decent rate and we've given up and just unscrew the top and drink from the bottle.
Buy one of these only if you're OK with the twist off top and you're not going to be knocking it around a hard surface that might dent the very soft walls. At $20 a pop, I expected much better durability and function. The instructions (in 20 languages!) are almost useless.
Addendum-- the bottle also imparts a metallic taste to the water.
- Sigg is by far the best product in its catagory
     By A17S75Z5MR29B6 on 2007-09-01
I'm addicted to these bottles and its helped me get over my addiction to wasteful disposible plastic bottles! After all, even if you do recyle ALL of your plastic bottles, it still wastes energy to haul them to a dump and re-process them. Dispense with them and use filtered water from the tap in these hygenic, stylish and handy bottles. They impart no taste to the water and the bottles themselves are very light.
- Never buy bottled water again!
     By A3ETDYA4WLBNQ2 on 2007-12-03
I bought this for my waterholic son for his birthday (at his suggestion). It seems a bit expensive but once you get it, you realize why. It is both lightweight and sturdy. I think I'll be buying 3 more for the rest of my family members as we are all constantly carrying around a bottle of water-to the gym, in the car, in the yard. A practical yet much appreciated gift!

Nice and light. Just what I expected. I thought the lip was going to be slightly larger but is worked out just fine.
- great bottle, just needs a camel-bak designed top
     By AEPL5QZUY412N on 2008-01-03
i love having the metal bottle but the various tops are less than desirable. i love my old camel-bak top with the bit spout and straw.
