About Sigg
It all started with a simple hiker’s bottle. Today, the SIGG bottle has acquired cult status. What happened is a success story that started in Biel, Switzerland in 1908. Küng, Sigg & Cie. manufactured leisure goods, kitchenware, and electrical appliances. The company relocated to Frauenfeld in 1916, where it helped pioneer the legendary tradition of Swiss quality. Since 1998, SIGG has concentrated on its core business: drinking bottles that deliver ultimate customer benefit.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Can Sigg bottles be used for boiling water?
A: No. Strong heat can damage the outer coating.

Q: Can dents in the bottle damage the Sigg bottle's inner coating?
A: No, the Sigg inner coating is highly elastic. Dents cannot crack or chip the internal lining and the Sigg bottle remains perfectly usable.

Q: Can I use my Sigg bottle for carbonated drinks?
A: Yes, all Sigg bottle tops provide a 100 percent seal and will not leak. It's recommended that you fill the bottle no further than 1/2-inch below the lip. And before taking a drink, relieve the pressure inside the bottle by gently rotating the entire top.

Q: Are Sigg bottles dishwasher safe?
A: Yes, but because of the narrow mouth of the bottle, hand washing is recommended.

Q: Can a Sigg bottle be placed in the freezer
A: No, as this may cause the bottle to crack. However, the bottle can be chilled in the refrigerator.

  • FUN Personal Accessory, Not Just a Water Bottle

    By A1YUL9PCJR3JTY on 2007-08-31
    *****
This is an upscale designer water bottle, top of the line, and so much fun. The designs Of Sigg's water bottles are gorgeous, from the plain, solid color bottles, to the ones with intricate designs. They are simply beautiful!

I switched from regular plastic water bottles because of health concerns, thinking it would take more work to maintain. These do necessitate regular cleaning (I clean mine every day), but having something so beautiful to drink from makes the cleaning fun. Sort of like my rings, glasses, and watch, I now consider my Sigg personal water bottle a vital accessory, reminding me to drink more water, making a statement about my values, and expressing myself with a special design. Yes, all in a water bottle!

Sigg of Switzerland water bottles are very high quality, made of light aluminum on the outside, slightly insulated, and covered with a special powder coat on the inside that prevents any leaching whatsoever, unlike plastic and polycarbonate water bottles. They are light, durable, and perfect for any activity. Well water tastes spectacular in these bottles, just like from the tap.

Sigg bottles come with several different types of tops. I bought the screw top because I don't like sports tops, and I don't mind unscrewing the top when I want a drink. It is totally leakproof, which is important to me. The top is pretty and can be hooked onto a carabiner. I get comments on it all the time, "What's that? I love it!" The sports top version is ok; I just am not a fan, as I don't feel like I can get enough water from the little stream from the sports top. However, for convenience, you might prefer it. For children, there is a cap-type top. All are leak-proof. If you are ever unsatisfied with the top, you can buy a screw top separately to fit your Sigg bottle.

Sigg makes their personal water bottle in .6L and 1L in this style. I have both. I use the .6L for sports activities because they are smaller. When I won't have to carry the container, I like the larger bottle. Sigg also makes a smaller .3L bottle for children that is a perfect size for young people. You can buy Siggs in alternative sizes too, such as .75L, .4L (for kids), .6L, .5L. You can occasionally find this bottle in the 1.5L size, also. Search Amazon for the perfect size.

Pick a style and pattern you like, as this bottle is a personal accessory, and should reflect your style. The colors are vibrant and even prettier than they seem in the pictures on Amazon.

They are expensive, but they are so durable that you can plan on them lasting many years. I consider them both an accessory and an investment in my health, so they are well worth it value-wise for me.

    Highly recommended.

  • good bottle, confusing caps

    By A2H8Y0V33QENI6 on 2008-04-05
I got the Sigg bottle because our office went disposables-free, and I'm sensitive enough that I can taste the metal in the steel drinking bottles that were the company recommended alternative. The liner and cap do appear to be taste-neutral to me. The painted aluminum finish feels fine against the skin and has no metallic or paint taste or smell. And, as an artist, it's an extra bonus to have the coolest looking drinking bottle in the building.

Anyone considering the butterfly design might also appreciate knowing that its 'soft blue' is as bright purple in person as it looks onscreen. That's actually what I was hoping for, so no complaints from me on that account.

I couldn't find a concrete explanation anywhere about the different types of tops on Sigg bottles, so some other customers might be confused as well...

The loop/ring top is pretty self-explanatory, but if you're planning to drink directly from the bottle rather than pour from it, it might help to know that although the opening has nicely smooth rounded edges, when drinking directly from it you can feel the seam between the outer shell and liner. It's not rough or dangerous, but not everyone would be entirely comfortable with the feel.

The regular drinking top has a pop-up spout, with 2 settings; open and closed. The cover is connected by a plastic loop around the neck of the bottle, is removable and can move around when open.

The 'active sport' cap twists from a closed/locked position to a leak-proof open position. That means you need to press down on the cap to drink, but won't accidentally pour water all over yourself if you carry it around open or knock it over on your desk. The push-down nozzle takes a bit of getting used to, since you either need to press it (pretty firmly) in against your mouth when drinking or hold it down with a finger. Once I got familiar with it though, it was pretty simple to hook a forefinger over the edge of the cap when holding the bottle by the neck, so I can drink or pour one-handed while pressing it down. The cover on the active sport is hinged, but can be removed if desired. It's supposedly mud-proof, but I - fortunately - haven't had a need to test that.

Both drinking caps can be taken apart for thourough cleaning, but don't come apart easily by accident.

  • Big stumble for Amazon!

    By A3LLBKSWW3G6QJ on 2008-03-19
The one star is for Amazon's packaging treatment. I ordered 2 Sigg water bottles for my family and they put both of them into a giant, huge( 19" x 13" ) box, with some air pack (you know, the air pillows?).

Hmmm... let me think: unwrapped, painted metal bottles, large empty box, loose packagang material - sound like a great chance for everything to get banged together and scratched up for 2 days during transit! Whadda deal!

Soooo diappointed. Did they have to use such a big box? This all could have been avoided by wrapping the bottles in some plastic baggies and putting them in a small box with a cardboard divider between. New hire? No small boxes? Can you tell I'm livid beyond belief? They're lucky they hide their phone number.

I love my new Sigg Bottle. Shipping was very prompt and packaged well.

My first impression was the design: Very pretty and whimsical. I liked that it was a bit of summer during the middle of winter.

Keep cold drinks cool for a long time. No taste transfer either. I do need to get some kind of bottle cleaner for it though. Other that that I have no complaints at all! Highly recommend any of the Sigg bottles and will be buying a larger capactiy one soon

  • Pretty cool - a little weird at first
    By A33I59E9I8YHZK on 2007-07-16
I got this sports bottle because my Nalgene bottle grew this weird odor that I could not get rid of no matter what amount of boiling water or cleaner I put in it. So far so good: I like how when I drink out of it, my water tastes like water with no weird smell. It looks pretty cool, too, with a variety of colors and designs, and it still fits in all my water bottle pockets.

    My two minor issues:

    1) The mechanism to take a drink is a little weird and requires you to push in the top with your teeth and suck out the water. It's great to prevent spillage, but takes a bit of getting used to.

    2) I bought the .6L bottle, which is about 20 oz. so it's not very big. I am thinking of buying the liter...

I jumped on the "no plastics" bandwagon a few months ago. I bought my two girls Siggs bottles for lunch, park, etc... The bottles are what you would expect. However, my youngest (1 year) chewed the heck out of the PLASTIC mouth piece. Had to replace that. Secondly, they are a PAIN in the butt to clean. If you are like me...occasionally the bottle gets left in the car overnight. They grow mold very quickly and have hard to reach part to clean. I soaked them, boiled them, scrubbed them and finally scraped them clean with a long wood chopstick. So... good product, but buy the cleaner brush (havent tried it) or get ready for some major cleaning sessions.

  • Kinda leaky
    By A23S46IT15N7TT on 2008-05-08
I bought this water bottle after going through several $5 sport-top water bottles that leak all over me when I take a drink. I thought the Sigg would be different - but it's not. Better, yes. Leak-free, no.

But it is pretty. And I like that it's recyclable and not made of plastic. I would probably recommend a Sigg without the sport-top (I'm considering buying a regular top for mine).

Update: It turns out I was using the sport top wrong! It's designed so you have to push down on the top to get the water to come out. I had turned the top past its intended position (a place where you don't need to push down to get the water to come out) and that's why it was leaking. Oops. But problem solved - great water bottle.

Bueatifully Crafted bottle that carries easily. Nice and unique looking and easy to use.

  • love the sigg
    By AVX0VDNHPU4XN on 2008-02-17
I was not sure at first about the sport top. I did not find it comfortable to press with my lips and drink at the same time. I discovered a great solution though, and now I love this bottle. I grip the bottle as usual but place my index finger on the top of the lid and press down as I drink. This is very easy and comfortable to do. I can get a very fast flow of water.

I purchased a cheap stainless steel bottle several years ago at a major chain. There was no valve to allow air to enter the bottle as you tried to drink so it was actually impossible to suck out more than a sip of water at a time. It also had a weird oder.

The Sigg is a highly superior product. Water tastes great even after a day or two in the bottle, and both types of tops give a great flow of water and do not leak. My children (2 abd 5) each have a Sigg with the other type of top and they love them. My husband keeps a Sigg at home and one at work with just the screw top and he is also very satisfied.

  • Sigg bottles are terrific.
    By ASBDJ5TWQKPLE on 2008-04-19
I love my Sigg bottle (I have two now). They are a fantastic alternative to disposable plastic bottles. The sport top, however, has it's limitations. If you don't wear lipstick, it's wonderful. But if you have lipstick or even lip balm on, it's better just to unscrew the lid and drink that way, otherwise, it gets all over. Because it is leak-proof, you have to put your lips to the top and "push" to get the water out and that pushing motion causes anything on the lips to be on the sport top, and even back on your face, outside the lip area. That is the only caveat that I can think of. Highly, Highly recommend this product!

  • Sport top vs. loop top
    By AODDCX2D7CUEJ on 2008-05-22
Having used both tops, I think the sport top is the way to go. Why? It's more flexible. Use your thumb to press down on the release to allow sucking the drink from the bottle. That allows one-handed drinking from, say, a bike. Or, if you need to guzzle a lot of water, uncrew the sport top as you would with the loop top. With the sport top, it's easier to screw and unscrew because there's more for your hand to work with, IMO. Hope that helps.

  • Mythical Scene on Great Water Bottle
    By A1YUL9PCJR3JTY on 2008-05-30
    *****
This is an upscale designer water bottle, top of the line in every way. The designs of Sigg's water bottles are gorgeous--even the plain, solid color bottles are beautiful--but the ones with designs are even better, in my opinion. I like to choose a pattern that reflects me. This one is a black on white mythical design, which isn't me, but it may be just what you're looking for!

I switched from regular plastic water bottles because of health concerns, even though I thought a permanent bottle like this would take more work to maintain. These do necessitate regular cleaning (I clean mine every day), but having something so beautiful to drink from makes the cleaning less of a chore. Sort of like my rings, glasses, and watch, I now consider my Sigg personal water bottle a vital accessory, reminding me to drink more water, making a statement about my values, and expressing myself with a special design.

They do dent if dropped on a hard surface at a particular angle, but Sigg fans (including me) view this as a type of "seasoning", so that your bottle acquires character. The dents are on the outside layer of the bottle, not the inside layer and so don't interfere with any functionality.

Sigg bottles come with several different types of tops. This particular bottle has a sports top. I'm not the biggest fan of the sports top, preferring a screw top, but this works conveniently when you don't want to take the time to unscrew the top for a drink. It is leak proof.

Sigg makes their personal water bottle in many sizes. I use the .6L size as my basic every day size, and keep it in my briefcase. It is a bit too large for my purse, although if you carry a tote it is an ideal size. It is also good for sports activities that require less water, like shorter walks. For my car and other uses I use the larger 1L size.

This bottle may seem expensive, but it is so durable that you can plan on it lasting many years. I consider Sigg bottles both an accessory and an investment in my health, so they are well worth it value-wise for me.

Note that Sigg water bottles should not be used to contain boiling water, as this will damage the outer coating. They also cannot be left in the freezer, as it may crack. They can be used for carbonated beverages, if you leave about a half inch of room at the top.

    Highly recommended.

  • Buy the bottle, ditch the top
    By A2KUUIJ52MWDAS on 2008-05-31
Water bottles are a great way to reduce our waste stream while drinking the best beverage around: cool, clear water. Unfortunately, the Nalgene or other polycarbonate plastic ones may leach endocrine disrupters (just what my metabolism needs). Other types of plastic get unwanted tastes, and I figure we just don't know that they're also bad for us. Stainless steel bottles give you a nice metallic taste--reminds me of Girl Scout camp canteens, but.... Aluminum is nice and light, but do I want aluminum leaching into my water? I do have a nice Voss mineral water bottle that I wash out and reuse at home, but it is heavy and, of course, breakable.

Enter the Swiss Sigg bottle. It has some mystery coating that purports to be safe--and given the reputation of the Swiss, I guess I'm inclined to take their word for it. It sure doesn't impart any taste to the water. It does have to be washed by hand--but using the somewhat pricey Sigg brand tablets takes 30 minutes of soaking and requires maybe one rinse with water instead of the gallons it seems to take to get even a drop of dishwashing liquid rinsed away.

The sport top sucks--literally, you feel like you have to suck the water out--a thin stream comes out when you press it to your lips, and all your lip balm comes off on the top. The cover, which is handily attached for those of you who have trouble keeping track of such things, smacks you in the nose or chin while you drink unless you carefully hold it away with your fingers. I prefer the regular top, with the optional leash attachment if you are prone to losing things. I bought mine separately--which will be convenient if I do lose it, but you can also just buy a bottle with the regular top.

This bottle is GREAT! I chose it for the color and it is quite vibrant and eye-catching, which I love. I do prefer the other (screw-type w/ hole in center) top to the push-type top it comes with, but it's easy enough to find one and I like that SIGG tops are interchangeable. The order shipped quickly and arrived in perfect condition. I am a happy buyer!

  • FUN Personal Accessory and Finest Water Bottle Available

It is totally leak-proof, which is important to me. The top is pretty and can be hooked onto a carabiner. I get comments on it all the time, "What's that? I love it!" This sports top version is ok; I just am not a fan, as I don't feel like I can get enough water from the little stream from the sports top. However, for convenience, you might prefer it. For children, there is a cap-type top. All are leak-proof. If you like the design and size but prefer a different top, you can buy a screw top separately to fit your Sigg bottle.

Pick a style and pattern you like, as this bottle is a personal accessory, and should reflect your style. The colors are vibrant and even prettier than they seem in the pictures on Amazon.

One consideration in case you are buying this Sigg bottle for your children: They do dent, but I and others regard this as a type of "seasoning" affecting only the appearance, since the dents do not go through to the inside of the bottle or affect the inside at all.

They are expensive, but they are so durable that you can plan on them lasting many years. I consider them both an accessory and an investment in my health, so they are well worth it value-wise for me.

  • not lovin' the top
    By A1PXO7UK3BU13V on 2008-06-05
Wow! The SIGG bottle itself is phenominal. I love that it is eco friendly in that you will use it over and over again and it is completely recyclable at the end of it's life. It is also super lightweight, attractive, and has great thermal properties. Most importantly it is BPA free and therefore a great replacement for the Nalgene bottle. My only complaint is that this "Lifestyle Sport Top" is not that easy for me to use. Maybe it's user error but I had hoped I could access a drink one handed especially when out with my kids while pushing a stroller in NYC. Unfortunately, it seems necessary to push down the white portion of the top in order to take a drink. Thankfully, I can just remove the top and drink directly from the bottle when the top becomes too annoying. If not for my issue with the lid, I would have easily given it 5 stars. Also, I will note that I usually am an avid reader of reviews, but in this case, my husband ordered the bottle for me and I did not read a single review. Otherwise, I would have gone with a bottle with a different top. I may break down and buy another top separately.

I love this size. I also have the one liter size. The 0.6 will fit in your car cup holder the other will not. It does keep drinks cold, but not for a really long time.

  • Cute, Sporty, Pretty, but will it hold up?

I got this bottle with the sport top for my daughters. I actually bought two, one for each of my daughters. My daughters had the regular tops on sigg bottles and they were driving me crazy asking me to open them for them every other minute. The funny thing is both bottles came with different types of sports tops. One sports top twists to open. My 5 year old is able to easily twist it to open and close. The other came with a active top that needs to be pressed to release the water. This works well for my 3 year old b/c once I taught her how to press it down for a drink, she can easily get a drink and it closes automatically so there are no leaks. We've only used our bottles for water, but they work great. Only problem we've had so far is that they dent really easily. We haven't done anything rough with them, but I've noticed they've already picked up some slight dents just from being carried around.

The bulb top on the sport top pulls off, and the twist on the spout is very sensitive. It will turn while you are drinking and shut off, then open and spill. I have been unscrewing the top and drinking out of the bottle. The sport top is a waste of money.

like the flip sport top, kids love designs on bottles. otherwise too pricey, but good for environment.

I really like this bottle. The only drawback is the narrow opening. It makes it hard to clean although they do sell a bottle brush specifically for this which I haven't purchased yet.
I think the water tastes great- I was worried about a metallic taste but so far it has been great

Our bottles were sent promptly and in good order. We love the bottles. They come in lots of fun designs. The bottles are easy to use and have many different cap options. It's nice to know they do not impact the environment.
