Lost & Foundx$6.60

(97 reviews)

Best Price: $6.60

Named by Billboard Magazine as one of the Top 10 Faces to Watch in 2007, the acclaimed Bay Area-based vocalist and songwriter makes her major label debut on Verve Forecast with a show-stopping blend of soul, funk, gospel, jazz and R&B on Lost and Found.

Ledisi, whose name does not rhyme with "release me" (it's LED-duh-see), nevertheless sounds like she's hit upon freedom and sweet salvation on Lost And Found, her third CD and the first on a major label (Verve). And it's not just a matter of the third time being the charm: Though she's long been the object of love from critics--2002's jazz-themed Feeling Orange But Sometimes Blue earned props for its depth and nuance, and her contribution to 2004's Luther Vandross tribute, Forever, For Always, For Luther, also prompted breathlessness--her focus this time out is less on music that'll win her respect and more on the kind that'll render her a mainstream R&B favorite. Which is to say it's a much different and more accessible record than its predecessors, the kind that comes first from the heart, then from the head. First single "Alright" grooves insistently and with deep reserves of attitude; "I Tried"--a tell-all about a doomed relationship--packs a rhythmic wallop as well as an excellent set of lyrics; and "Upside Down" gets fuel from fierce, infectious guitar funk. Those are just a sampling of what makes this an instantly diggable (and, at 16 tracks, likably long) set. Straight up is sometimes a hard road for artists who value more than their sales rank or chart position to follow, but for Ledisi it's the way to go--what turns up in this particular Lost And Found is her groove; her ticket to stardom is likely in there with it. --Tammy La Gorce MPN: 000890902 - UPC: 602517330016

  • This Woman Needs To Be Heard, Ya'll!!!! - (SHE IS WORKIN' ME!!)

    By A1S3IEVZI29T7H on 2007-08-28
Since "Soulsinger", her first studio project, the Bay Area's own Ledisi has shown up in a variety of different places giving wondrous performances and is already amassing an impressive body of work. Her work on the Luther tribute album, with Miguel Migs in various house mixes, a guest spot with the Braxton Brothers, and a blistering cover of Earth, Wind & Fire's "Devotion" more than made me ready for her next project.

While I agree with the first reviewer that this is by no means her best work to date, I do submit it is a continuation of noteworthy work from an incomparable vocalist and lyricist equally at home with R&B, dance, and smoky jazz (see her second project - simply phenomenal)

Ledisi has already evolved into one of the those artists where it is simply futile to put a finger on "the best this or the best that." She is definitely one where you simply learn to revel in the next level of her aritistry.

This is indeed a lighter set than her introductory one where she tackled such poignant subjects as friendship, domestic abuse, seuxual abuse, and even, yes, snoring (a stitch..)

But there is no mistaking her unbelievable vocal abilities - she simply breathes life into her music and has crafted an individual styling like no other.

While I give this particular project a 4, simply because she does have better work currently out there, as an emerging and important voice, I give Miss Ledisi a resounding TWELVE!!!!

Have already ordered my copy and am anxiously awaiting its arrival.
    I hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiihgly recommend!!!!!!!

**September 1 - CD arrived!!!! Hearing for the first time on a REAL sound system - I changed my mind!!! BEST WORK TO DATE!!! I AM NOT WELL! - MIss Thang is OFF THE HOOK. Shades of Sarah, Ella, Dinah, and a WHOLE LOTTA LEDISI! - simpy wondrous - excellent artistry!!!!!....oh yeah, (system wouldn't let me change it) FIVE STARS....IN A BIG WAY!!!

  • Ledisi's breakout?

    By A70YTUFJY5HXN on 2007-09-23
I was really looking forward to this one by one of my 'Unsung Heroes' of modern soul. Ledisi's last album Soul Singer, was nothing short of a masterpiece if you ask me, and is now difficult (not to mention expensive) to lay hands on by all accounts. My best friend prepared me for this new one though by playing me "Alright", from her MySpace page a month or so ago. I was sold on the album on the strength of that song alone.

The album kicks off with the banging 1min 44sec intro, "Been Here" and it's so good, I so wish they had made it into a full song. The next few tunes are nothing special. They're not bad, just nothing special. "You And Me" sounds like something Angie Stone might have recorded (and that's NOT meant a compliment). As for "Best Friend", I've lost count of the number of times I've heard the I'm-in-love-with-my-best-friend thing done before. I yawned literally, the first time I heard it and it hasn't grown on me yet.

Things finally get cooking with "Alright" though; already a firm favourite of mine on this album and an instant classic in my view. "Think Of You", "Today" (bouncing with positivity, that one), "Get To Know You" (a great late summer nodder), "Upside Down", "In The Morning", "I Tried", and the simple yet beautiful title ballad "Lost & Found" (with an inspired violin solo by Karen Briggs), are all standout tracks. The only problem I have with "We Are One", the duet with Rahsaan Patterson, (look out for his upcoming album Wines & Spirits), was that at 1min 48secs, it was way too short. "The One" falls back into Okay But Nothing Special territory but "Someday" pulls the proceedings right back up to stellar quality. The album closes with the outro version of "Been Here" and once again, this desperately needs to be made into a full-length song somewhere along the line. Maybe if/when Ledisi performs it live?

On balance this is a great set and it should propel Ledisi clear from the underground or 'best kept secret' status right into the mainstream. Verve is a label with a solid reputation so it's fingers crossed. Here's a real singer, doing real music. Great production by the lady herself, alongside Rex Rideout, Luther Hanes, Lorenzo Johnson, Jamey Jaz and Sundra Manning. I really hope this turns out to be the breakout album for Ledisi that it deserves to be.

  • Good, but not her best work....

    By A2DYZY6EVDYJ1U on 2007-08-28
ok, i am a true Fan of Ledisi, but this CD is kind of 'water down' from her other CD's. It's a Good CD for getting more fans, but not like her other music. Still A good CD, Alright is the best song on the cd, some others are good as well. I was still moved by her songs, but nothing like her first CD's. This is a good intro to who she is, but if you looking for the deep songs that tell a story this is not the one. Once again it's still a good cd, but not a must have. Like this CD, music is great, but I miss all the good stories she tells so well. This is her R & B Cd, great effort, but not her best. Pick up her other cd's to see how well she sings, and tells stories of love , and life! This CD is still better than most CD's that have came out this year. Pick it up!

  • She will turn you Upside Down...

Ledisi Anibade Young (known professionally by the moniker Ledisi) is up for 2 Grammys this Sunday; best newcomer, and best R&B album. "Lost and found" is her major label debut (she'd released 2 CDs independently previously) and while fans of those (jazzier) CDs have stated that this isn't quite up to those, it's still a very good CD, far superior to most R&B out today. The mood is mellow and jazzy (some scatting, and jazz piano) with lovely harmonies.

The CD opens with crowd sounds and a soulful intro "Been here", replete with James Brown style yelps. "Joy" is a groovy mid tempo song, "You and me" with its scratchy bass line wouldn't sound out of place on a D'Angelo CD, and scat sprinkled "Best friend" is also nice. More songs along these lines are "Alright", "Get to know you" (with a gently pulsing bass line), the quiet storm feel of "In the morning", the melodramatic piano title track (lovely violin flourishes, and an impassioned vocal delivery), the all too brief "we are one" (with Rahsaan Patterson), and "Someday".

Upping the tempo a wee bit are the piano laced "Think of you" (with scratches, awesome song!), "Today" (with funky horns), "Upside down" (great percussion, some scatting, groovy bass line; another favourite of mine), the more sparse "I tried", and the acoustic "The one" (breezy harmonies). Closing the CD is an outro "Been here", which is a continuation of the intro, with her thanking us for coming (to the show, I guess). The pleasure is all ours Ledisi.

This CD reminds me of "I am" by Chrisette Michele; groovy jazzy soul with a live sound, performed by a superb vocalist.

  • A Good Safe major League Debut

    By A2RXC61UJQQSWZ on 2007-11-11
First off, respect where respect is. The music man, otherwise known as Kayode hyped me to this, so much props to you Bro. As most know Ledisi has been in the game for a minute with two previous Cds Soul Singer and the lavish entitled: Feeling Orange But Sometimes Blue: The Jazz Singer Limited Edition] ]
I think this is a good safe major league debut. That whilst it isn't gonna hit the ball out of the park, hopefully will, with decent sales, allow her develop her craft on her next project.
The first thing that hits you is here is a lady that can sing. I mean really sing, and doesn't over sing to prove the point (often less is more, as some singers could/should learn) But what also comes over in many of the songs on offer is a sameness. Songs like' You & Me' 'Joy' 'Best friend' 'Today' & 'Get to Know You', whilst decent songs in themselves, have been done before and offer us nothing new.
There are some good moments on here 'I tried' is a lively number that works well and is among my favorites on this joint, as is 'Someday'. I also love.
At the moment I'm in the process of listening to her Soul Singer CD that my Brother lend me. Now this sounds more of the kind of thing that could have set her apart from her comptempories. Hopfully this will get a re-release because the world needs to hear this.

On reflection( thanks Oshun) I think 2 stars is a little mean, so I'd give this 3 instead (If Amazon would let me change it!)

  • Truly talented vocalist!
    By A25I6X7JUC2JXB on 2007-09-01
Ledisi will always get my moolah! Her voice is soooooooooooo rich. We have yet to hear the best from her. I hope she tours and gets promotional backing from her current label. It is time that the masses discover Ledisi. She is a vocalist that can be put in various genres. Jazz/R&B/NeoSoul/Rock. I gave this CD 4 stars because I still like "Soul Singer" more.

  • Not many singers like her around
    By A1HFVQZIDK7UUD on 2007-11-08
Ledisi - Lost and Found (Verve, 2007)

Ledisi Young has been around the soul underground for sometimes, stealing the show on any song she guested on. While I agree that this album isn't as powerful as Soulsinger, I think that her record label wanted to "dumb down" her performance a bit in order to gain more record sales. She has the voice that can make your goosebumps get goosebumps but sometimes you need to ease it down a little to be more marketable. And yeah, it bites, but that's the way the music biz is sometimes.

But back to the album, "Think of You" is my favorite song as well as the interlude duet with Rahsaan Patterson which should have been a whole song. I like "Someday" also when she thanks her parents (even her molesting father who she sang about in 2001's "Papa Loved to Love Me"!) for being there for her. I hope that Ledisi finally gets the props she deserves with this album. -EJR

  • Soul/Jazz at its best.
    By A201Z4ISNX96IH on 2008-11-21
Ledisi (whose name means "to bring forth" in the Yoruba language of Nigeria) has been known for delivering electrifying and memorable live performances, and over the course of her career she has earned the respect of fans and music writers alike.
Now, making her major-label debut after 11 years of indie hustling with Verve's release of "LOST AND FOUND", Ledisi has the opportunity to further develop and expand her fan base, and share the gift of her r&b, jazz-influenced musical style with a wider audience.
The album showcases the multi-talented artist who co-produced all of the songs with veteran music producer/composer Rex Rideout, Rick Watford, Jamey Jaz, Errol Cooney, Luther "Mano" Hanes, Lorenzo Johnson and her longtime producing and writing partner keyboardist Saundra Manning, with whom she formed LeSun Music the independent label which released her two earlier projects " Soul Singer" and "Feeling Orange bit Sometimes Blue".
The 16-track set is a sonic mélange of jazz, classic R&B, and scat, all fused with rib-thumping bottom notes of unadulterated funk and gospel, and Ledisi moves fluidly between these genres, mixing it up to create a flavorful aural Gumbo that is melodically lush, lyrically appealing and unabashedly soulful. After hearing it, music aficionados will understand why Stephen Holden of The New York Times said: "Her voice is her own portable playground".
It's a quality album albeit that Rex Rideout's production makes it a little less edgy and her vocals are more subdued than on her outstanding first album "Soul Singer".
The highlights are the mid tempo head nodders "Alright", a mellow groove about staying positive, recently entered the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart at No. 66, and the semi funky mid tempo "Best Friend" and the plodders "You And Me", "In The Morning" and "Someday"
Ledisi, a "cult" singer and certainly one of the best female vocalists of her generation, has more space to let go on "Upside Down", the funky foot taper co-written with Saundra Manning.
My favourite tracks are "We Are One" (with Rahsaan Patterson), and the the heartbreakingly touching title track, which Ledisi sings lovingly accompanied by just Rex Rideout at the piano and Karen Briggs on violin.

  • (4.5 Stars) I Was Lost....But Now I'm Found!
    By A27RIWPJMP3XYD on 2007-09-08
Being an underground artist has its ups and downs. The downs are more obvious, with limited record sales, less mainstream promotion, and little to no radio or video airplay. But then there are the ups of having a small room full of people that love and appreciate your work for what it is. There's also the constant hustle and eagerness to eventually get to the mountain top. But the single biggest thing that small time artists realize over time is that the music industry itself is based on timing and luck. For Ledisi, her time has arrived after many years of struggling to get her music to the masses. With the arrival of her new album, there's good reason why Ledisi was named as one of the' Top 10 Faces To Watch in 2007' by Billboard Magazine. On her harmonious Verve Forecast debut Lost and Found, Ledisi guides you on a musical voyage into her world that you are more than happy to venture into. Her lead single "Alright" showcases her wide vocal range alongside the meaningful lyrics she delivers at the same time. "Joy" explores the idea of allowing another person into their soul and bringing them the happiness they deserve to have. "Think Of You" is an impassioned testimony of love for one's significant other. Other knockout tracks include the lighthearted song "Get To Know You," the adoring mind-set of "In The Morning," the commanding lyrics of "The One," and the feeling of hopefulness on "Someday." Another notable track has to be the duet with Rahsaan Patterson for "We Are One," a seductive interlude that certainly deserves to be a full-length track. Lost and Found promises to be the crown jewel in Ledisi's budding singing career.

  • Disappointing
    By ALAQSELMUBSI7 on 2007-09-24
I bought this CD after reading the enthusiastic Amazon reviews, and also after having heard a jazz performance by Ledisi on a local radio station. Ledisi may be a major talent, but it's hard to judge based on this recording because the material and production are weak. Nothing comes close to being a fully-developed song. What you get instead is a groove and some vocal noodling. Lyrics? Forget it. I hope her earlier recordings will be rereleased so we can hear what she can do with some quality song writing.

  • LEDISI the REAL DEAL
    By A155MWR24Z3GAF on 2007-09-14
The highlight of 2007 is finally getting a hold of Lost and Found. Like most musicians from NoLeans, Ledisi vocals bring forth this feeling of southern home cooking. There is a sense of maturity but still leans towards a playful live feel. I can't think of any song on this cd that I don't like. Clearly this album is a return to soul music. ENERGETIC! Each of Ledisi cds bring this energy. Lost and Found creates a floetic lyrics filled with emotions backed by her energetic instrument (voice). Producer Rex Rideout continues capturing the artist as though it was placed on a canvas. Lost and Found is equally as good as previous albums if not better. Highlights on the album are Ledisi vocal range, mad ad libs, and live collaborations with some of the hottest musicians (Erroll Cooney, Little John Roberts)

  • LOVE HER!!!!
    By AD0WHW8IASU8N on 2007-09-19
All I can say is Ledisi is a talented woman that has been overlooked too long in this industry of computer enhanced #^u%*. I'm glad a major label picked her up but now we need her on the air. Let see How long that will take.
If there is anything called the Oakland sound, Ledisi and her band are it.
This stands out on the songs on this CD with the eclectic jazz tinged selections like Upside Down, Today and the heavy bass thumping Been Here (Intro and Outro). Her birthplace "Nawleans" comes out in her accent when she sings and talks that southern energy and hospitality.
I've seen her live a few times and her voice and ernergy are so powerful and uplifting. No big hip hop dance act but she is all over the stage making you FEEL HER!

  • Ledisi! Ledisi! Ledisi! You Go Girl!
    By A12TXJXGV9TRQX on 2007-08-28
This CD touches alot of different life experiences in a very powerful way. "Joy" shows of the appreciation of being able to love that special someone. "You and Me" is a smooth groove about my special boo and me. "Best Friend" is about that special love that can develop between two peeps who have been there for each other forever, and one of them "doesn't know what to do, can't stop wanting the other". "Think of You" is all about that feeling that no matter what is going on in your life, your mind stays on that special someone that is the "air you breath, the love of your life". "Today" is an affirmation that things will be different, that today things will go my way. "Get to Know You" is all about the joy and pleasure taht one gets from getting to know someone that you have been wanted to find out everything about. " Upside Down" is a remake of the Diana Ross disco song. Naw, just kidding, it is a sort of new day "Wake Up Everybody" where the world needs to change what it is doing and turn things around. "In the Morning" is about always yearning, wanting, and needing that loving when you start that day. " I Tried" is about knowing when to move on after both parties have tried to make it work, to no avail. "Lost and Found" is a haunting type tune which seeks for someone to find me, help me find love, essence, meaning. "We Are One" is a short but very emotional song about the oneness of two people in love. Too deep. "The One" is about the one who brightens up your day who is always there for you. "Someday" is about a child who only wants to make his/her parents proud. Just put the disk on and let all of your emotions be touched; it is truly an experience to behold!

  • 'WHAT!' can one say other than it's about darn time a major label took notice!
    By A39F5HLWQEZD7E on 2007-09-15
I'm so happy for girlfriend! I know I should talk about the music on this CD but all I can say first is listen to her first two albums (if you can find them) and you all we be saying "WHAT?!" Ledisi is a true jazz vocalist who happened to spin a TIGHT adult R&B album with this LOST & FOUND cd. Why haven't we heard of her before? Because she's been perfecting her chops (for years on the West Coast) to deliver righteously on THIS album. The funky gems for me are YOU AND ME, TODAY, UPSIDE DOWN. I'm not even sure what they are playing on the radio but I'd love to hear JOY on an adult R&B format. It's seductive, percussive and full of raw emotion. But one of the more provocative songs BEST FRIEND I think would be a better choice. Who CAN'T relate to that song? And even if there is a soul who didn't have that personal experience of liking someone secretly, they know of someone who has. If I had to threw any labels on her for first time listeners, I'd threw the classy cloak of Anita Baker on her shoulders but Lesdisi stands tall and firm in funky thigh-high eel skin boots of a Chaka Khan. With all the vocal talent and production skills, Ledisi has the all the trappings to stand out from the crowded room of today's R&B divas.

  • Best new artist since Anita Baker or Jill Scott
    By A21XHU9D672WYM on 2007-10-09
Ledisi is one of those rare, true singer artists that don't come along often. Meshell NdegeOcello, Chaka Khan, Jill Scott, Rahsaan Patterson, Jennifer Holiday, Patti LaBelle to name a few. She's not a singer, she's an icon waiting to be discovered. She's a singer's singer! From the churchouse to the jukejoint, this album is so SMOOTH, I love it. There's some subtly gospel-themed songs, jazzy R&B, etc. And to show that she can still get down in car-thumping style, she has "You and Me," a song so gritty that Angie Stone's got to wish she wrote it! You won't be disappointed with this release at all. Too bad for you if you don't have the two independent albums before this that are also stellar, especally Soulsinger. I'll bet you Amazon has some used copies floating around...Check her out!

  • Oh, Yeah!
    By A8Q3M6FHASIJ7 on 2007-10-27
Fire, Fire, Fire! Ledisi brings it and more in this 14 track (plus the intro and outro) trip that explores love, happiness, and heartache. The first time I heard "In The Morning" coming from my speakers I was floored, but then I heard "Alright" one morning on my drive in to work and I knew I had to cop this CD. Standout tracks include "Joy," "Alright," "Upside Down," "In The Morning," and "I Tried." The title track, "Lost and Found," is just exquisite. It took me a while to actually even get through one listen of the CD because I kept replaying most of the songs. I will say that Ledisi does, in some ways, remind me of Jill Scott, particularly her phrasing, but a comparision to Jill can't be all bad. Got a lil' Chaka in her, too. She's got a new fan in me.

  • "I've been waiting for y'all to hear me sing, 'cause I've been here all the time!"
    By A1S2IY37JU93XS on 2008-01-25
A few years ago, I was browsing through some Listmanias and came across an unfamiliar name in someone's list of best R&B albums of the year. I found this odd because I'm usually really on top of new artists and discoveries in the genre. Ledisi... `who is that,' I wondered. Why hadn't I heard of this woman? I read up a little on her and found that she was an independent artist who supposedly delivered a mean live show. After hearing all this hype, I was about ready to buy some of her albums. That is until I realized both of her releases were then out of print and only available used starting at a whopping forty dollars. Sorry, but I don't buy CDs for that kind of price, especially if I'm not familiar with the artist. I immediately became excited when I saw she was releasing this album, Lost & Found, on a major label and I bought it the Tuesday it was released.

Ledisi has a unique and invigorating voice; it's slightly raspy at times, but it is always bold and packed with emotion, personality, and power. She has obviously drawn inspiration from some of the jazz and soul greats. The production on this album is well done. It has quite a bit of live instrumentation, which is very refreshing when compared to the mechanized beats that usually surround us today. That plus her expressive vocals provide a listen that pops out of the speakers and really moves you. Most of Lost & Found is composed of cool and soulful mid-tempo grooves, and I must say that there is really not a bad track on here.

The album begins and ends with "Been Here," which is an energetic exercise that hypes you up. It does a great job of creating an intimate musical environment and simulating the sound and spirit of a live performance. She is quick to let you know that she is not a "new artist" by any means: "I've been waitin' on y'all to hear me sang/ `cause I've been her all the time," she sings. "You & Me" is a song that immediately caught my attention on the first listen. The bass and the cool, beautiful harmonies compliment each other quite nicely. The jazzy bridge is great and a groovy touch of organ in the background of any R&B song makes it ten times better. "Alright," the inspirational first single, is also a standout track. The laid-back track is the perfect remedy for a bad day, whether it is due to work, bills piling up, rainy weather, or just plain unhappiness. "Think of You" is my absolute favorite track of the set, however. Beginning with tight drums and a thumping bass, the summery track is just irresistible. The lilting chorus is catchy as all goodness, too. The title track is a departure from the rest of the album. It is a sparse, stripped down ballad with only piano and raw, emotional vocal delivery. "When will the sun ever shine on me?/ I need love to come and carry me." The lyrics of being lost without love are beautifully written. Everything about "The One" is perfect, from the guitar backing, to the chorus, to the harmonies, to the song structure, to driving back beat; it is supreme perfection. "Someday," the last full track, is a very memorable one. It is a sweet dedication to her parents and her desire to care for them and make them proud in everything she does.

I was pleasantly surprised with Lost & Found. Ledisi proves she is a distinguished talent and a force to be reckoned with. Full of passionate and sincere mid-tempo R&B/soul grooves, the album remains one of my favorite albums from 2007. At the end of the year, she was nominated for two Grammy Awards: best new artist and best R&B album, and she definitely deserves to win both. I wish Ledisi all the luck and she will definitely have longevity as an artist.

  • More people don't own this album because...?
    By A200C7YQJ45LRR on 2008-06-14
Back in 2002, my brother said that soul songstress Ledisi was one of the most underrated singers in the game. Since I never got around to listening to her work, I couldn't really form an opinion, but now that I've gotten my hands on her latest album Lost & Found, I have to say that he's right.

Honestly, it's hard to pick a favorite song from this album, but right now I think I'll have to go with "Today". There are plenty of other highlights, like "Upside Down" and "You & Me". "Get to Know You" is a cool jam that you could easily chill to at your local Starbucks, and "Alright" is an understatement.

Guest stars are few, but when they arrive, they also excel. I'm not sure who Karen Briggs is, but she helps Ledisi deliver an already wonderful title track. And even though the Rahsaan Patterson duet "We Are One" isn't even two minutes long, it also shines. "In the Morning" is also a good song, although I'm not sure how many people can relate to it.

Speaking of that song, the reason why I only give the album four stars is because Ledisi tends to oversing sometimes, especially on "Best Friend" (kinda reminds me of another song called "Best Friend" by Bilal (and Tweet), who has that same problem). Oh, well; Lost & Found is still a beautiful album, so pick it up.

It's hard to believe this is my first Ledisi CD. I've heard her on the radio for a few years, but I haven't been able to find her in local record store. I've been listening to LOST & FOUND all evening. I suggest everyone order it or go out and buy it. I can't wait for her to hit the DC Metro Area.

I've always been a Ledisi fan! My best friend and I went to her CD release party at the Circuit City here in Largo, Maryland and she was AWESOME. As with any new CD, this one had to grow on me. Now my two young daughters are singing every song on the CD back-to-back. Ledisi has done it again (long overdue!) and I look forward to seeing her live at the Birchmere (Alexandria, VA) in October. If you haven't gotten this CD, please make sure you get it. I would hate for you to be LOST & FOUND!!!

I think this CD is a great buy! You can really ride to this and not have to skip a song. You can really tell that this artist put her heart and soul into her work.

Yes I do agree that this third installment has a different vibe but still has the quality of Soul Singer. My Day is one of my favorite, of course Alright is as well, but the work as a package is where I the complete essence of the release. This is more like R & B but still elements of jazz and neosoul shine through.

After buying "Soulsinger" and experiencing LEDISI for the first time in 2003 or 2004, my hubby and I were blessed to see her live at DAR Constitution Hall with Rachelle & Rahsaan. Ledisi is a TRUE Entertainer, with genuine singing skills, talent and a bubbly personality that can't help but make you smile from the heart!!! She had that hall JUMPIN! JUMPIN! I Love you Led and am very happy to see you persevered and made this album! "Lost and Found" is a treat to listen to and I am enjoying it from Intro to Outro! I am not a music critic, I just LOVE music and I can't see anyone who appreciates R & B, NeoSoul or Contemporary Jazz not finding something they like on this album. Keep sharing your blessing with the masses Ledisi, and I will do all I can to help promote a REAL "sanger!" God Bless you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What if you needed oxygen, and there was one CD that could give it to you? That is how I describe Ledisi's latest venture on "Lost & Found". It is truly on fire! Get this CD with urgency right away, and not bootleg either so this sista' can get her royalties and be around to save us. Don't allow yourself to miss out on one of the best albums of the year. "I Try", "In The Morning", "Alright", and "Lost And Found", are some of my favorite cuts from this album. I saw her perform at The Temple Bar, a platform arena for established and up-and-coming artists, in Los Angeles, CA. This furthered my mesmerization with this balm of soulful delight. If I tell you that you can listen to this CD(in my opinion a creation of art)from start to finish. She has done it once again. I am 28 years old and have resorted to listening to CD's of the 80's and 90's just to get the fulfillment that I desire from soul music. Listening to everyone from The Brand New Heavies, to Will Downing, to Bilal, to Maxwell, to LaToya London just to get a buzz. Ledisi brings it y'all. Look for her on tour soon hopefully in a city near you. But until then, look for her performance on TV One's new show, "Baisden After Dark", with Michael Baisden premiering in October 2007 to calm our senses until then. Ledisi, keep on doing your thang. We get it girl, we get it!

This is the first Ledisi CD that I have ever brought. I was digging chrisette & I thought that she was going to be my new J. Scott who's first DC stayed in my car for 7 years. Now I have this one so That is 2 slots gone for the next few years.

I am glad that there is some creativity out there. plus both of these CD's will not be played to death on the radio so that will better my enjoyment...

Ledisi is a wonderful SAANGER...She can blow right alongside Jill, Erykah, & Rachelle. I am glad to see her finally getting some airplay. I have been a fan since time in memorial. This is her best cd to date in that it actually has songs that should have commercial success. Glad to see good music coming out from the underground. And, if you get the chance, go see/support Ledisi live. She puts on a wonderful show!

I have followed Ledisi's singing career for some time. I found this project to be very satisfying and one that she should be very proud. I enjoy the cd more with each listening. My favorite is No. 5 "Alright" and No. 2 "Joy" and the maudlin but beautiful title track, "Lost & Found". This cd shows off Ledisi's maturity as well as commercial potential. You go girl!
