Fantastic and fun ;-> By A24ZFFRQ4MG3XL on 2007-09-25
I often read Womens Health, so when I saw they brought out some exercise dvds, I snapped them up. They are really good and I love this one in particular.
It's a fantastic aerobic/toning workout and Amy Dixon cues really well and makes this fun and is encouraging and motivating. I haven't done or seen a workout of hers, but I'm so impressed with this. If you put in a lot of effort on this, you will get a lot of results. It's tough but great and fun to do. It's easy to follow and do and she tells you often throughout that you can do it and to push yourself a little harder. The cardio moves are athletic style (like kickboxing, jogging and ski moves) and the toning moves are classic kinds. You have easier options to choose from so that makes it fairly do-able for many people.
I really recommend this dvd as it's so well put together with the right type of exercises to get you in tip top shape, and an instructor who's not annoying but motivating and makes this an enjoyable workout.
not as good as I expected it to be.. By A3SQ88Q69VKAUV on 2007-10-10
Well, on the positive side - the instructor is nice and encouraging, at least some of the moves are new and interesting. But here's what I didn't like:
- it is short - 38 min
- I found the women in the background annoying with their 'enthusiastic' oohs and aahs and yeahs
- it is not challenging, I have no idea how you are supposed to burn 'up to 500 kcal' in one session. I am a 5'7'', 143 lbs woman, I did all the advanced moves except for one round of jumping jacks and burned 185 kcal
I would definitely recommend the 'old' WH DVDs instead - "The Wedding Workout" and "Train for your body type"
Buy this DVD! By A15366Z47YAHI0 on 2007-09-18
This is the one to buy. Unparalleled in its energy, fun, and effectiveness, this video is the one I'd like to have if I were stranded on a desert island. Amy Dixon knows her stuff!
Not for me By A2TUCFNQCGU0G0 on 2008-04-16
I was really disappointed in this workout considering all the raving reviews. I lasted less than 5 minutes before I was turned it off in favor of an old standby.
There was no warm up. The instructor and "class" are already marching when the program starts. The pace was way too fast - I felt like I was watching it in fast forward - no way could I keep up - and the pace was so fast you had no time to learn one movement before they were off on the next. If you are use to fast-paced aerobics classes or have had years of dance classes, this may be for you. I have been exercising (again) for about 6 months and this was way too advanced for me.
I am much happier with Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred or one of my "Firm" tapes. This one is headed for my Ebay sale pile.
SO much better than your average workout DVD. By A2IALFPC086AXQ on 2007-09-24
I finally received my DVD's based on a recommendation by a friend, and I am SO happy that I did. These new Women's Health workouts are so far superior to anything else I have, it's ridiculous. The star Amy Dixon has more energy than anyone I've ever seen. Seriously. It must be a redhead thing. I couldn't recommend them enough.
I would definitely say you should get both of these tapes to mix it up a bit, but for anyone just deciding between the two, here's a word of advice based on my initial testing... The Ten Minute one is definitely for everyone. It's amazing because who can't workout for ten minutes? And there's four different ones. But the Ultimate Fat Burn, while personally is my favorite, is definitely a little harder of a workout. If you're just a beginner, it may be a little difficult for you. But like I said before, I'd get them both. Slow days? Ten Minute Workout. Harder Days? Ultimate Fat Burn.
I hope this helps. They really are amazing tapes. I hope they make more. The look of them is really different than anything I've seen. It's not just in an empty room. It really helps.
Enjoy them, and happy working out!
- Amy Dixon is the best!
     By A2QZINEB9DPTH5 on 2007-09-18
Although I won't be receiving my DVDs for four to six weeks; and, therefore, can't rate them, I can tell you that Amy Dixon is the best fitness instructor I've ever had the pleasure of taking classes from. I take her classes at Equinox in Santa Monica and her energy and dedication are unrivaled. I can't say enough amazing things about Amy Dixon. My body has changed because of her. I feel privileged to take her classes and even more privileged to call her my friend. Buy the DVD. Women's Health wouldn't make her their spokesperson for nothing.
P.S. I can't post this review without a rating so I'm giving it five stars.
- Great Home Workout DVD
     By A2V0S5H1Q3FFBO on 2008-02-13
After Slim in Six I avoided buying another home workout DVD. The problem I have with most home workout DVDs that the routines are too long, the instructor spends too much time on the same boring/difficult combination and the music is more likely to put you to sleep rather than pump you up. But Ultimate Fat Burn is not like that. The entire routine is only 40 mintues long (unlike 70 minutes for Slim in Six). The combinations are fun and she moves through them quickly. You never feel like you've been squatting (or whatever) for too long and when she says 8 more, she really means 8 more. You don't get tricked into doing 8 more after you were promised only 8 more. Amy and crew take you through 1 lower body routine, 1 upper body routine and 2 cardio routines. The moves are fun and not too difficult, but are designed to make you sweat. My only disappointment is that there isn't any abdominal routine on the DVD. I recommend this DVD to anyone (beginner to intermediate) who doesn't have a lot of time to workout and is looking for a fun, quick, easy to follow and effective fat burning workout.
- Great Interval Workout- Compares to Top Notch Gym Classes
     By A27C7RB8DCLJ9K on 2008-04-02
I recently purchased this DVD. I usually find home workout DVDs to be hard to follow, not challenging enough and/or boring. I thought it provided an excellent workout, quite comparabale to my favorite bootcamp class at my gym.
It alternated between a strength workout (3pd wts needed) and a cardio workout. It also included a warm up and cool down. There is one indiviudal who does the modified routine.
My only issue with the DVD is the advertisement introduction (3 minutes or so) that cannot be fast forwarded through.
- Great workout!
     By A131B0GXL97P61 on 2007-10-11
This is one of the best workout videos I own. The sets are challenging, but not too difficult. The time flies by. Amy does not dwell on any one exercise for too long, so it never gets boring. Highly recommend!!!
- This girl knows what she's doing!
     By A338LO6QLEQEWA on 2007-10-18
This is a great workout. I enjoy a challenge and this video is challenging. She knows how to work the body to get the heart rate up and the muscles working. You will certainly feel it the next day :o)
- Amy Dixon rules!!!
     By A39KA2OS68UWVJ on 2007-11-02
I have become a total fan of Amy Dixon. She knows her stuff and this really gets your heart rate up there. The moves are easy to follow yet do have some degree of difficulty. Excellent workout video with strength and cardio segments. I would totally recommend you buy this one!
- One part was offensive to me.
     By A1LG88ADFV7YUQ on 2007-12-28
This is a great workout except for one provocative move that she does where she says, "It's OK to get sexy". I wanted to do this workout with my daughters. Now I'm going to have to find another one or else skip that part every time.
- Sceptical at first...but
     By A1VHZRPN2MC107 on 2008-01-07
I have to admit that I was a sceptic especially after viewing this video. How could I possibly burn 500 calories doing this workout - you only use 3 pound weights! Well I just finished this workout and to my surprise (and calorie monitor) I burned 525 calories in under 40 minutes!!! I guess it really does work. As a cardio workout this is great and I would hightly recommend it. But if strength training is what you are looking for pop in another DVD.
- Def. not what I was looking for..
     By A1RF5Y2SEN1N5N on 2008-01-13
This dvd came in a combo set that I bought. The other dvd was 'Train For Your Body Type.' I must say I like the Body Type much better!! It gave me more of a workout. This dvd made my heart race, but not enough to make me sweat, like I wanted.
-For one its a 38 mins workout with nothing else on the dvd, except Amy Dixon talking about why she picked her trainers. Something I could really careless about.
-As another reviewer said the women in the background make these really annoying oohs, aahs and yeahs that really get on your nerve.
-It is not challenging, I have no idea how you are supposed to burn the 500 calories stated. I am a 5'10, 225 lbs woman, I did all the advanced moves and it didnt make me burn 500 cal in one session.
I must say, if you are going to buy a Women's Health dvd, go for the Train for Your Body Type one. You get to choose which workout you want to do and gives you a day to day workout schedule. Such as Mon-Cardio, Tue-Upper Body, and etc.. I will prob. end up trading this dvd for something else.
- Never cheat yourself out of a good booty squeeze!
     By A2ABM0N2X5CRTT on 2008-01-21
Highly recommended. Amy Dixon is a fabulous trainer and the other ladies that are doing the workout with her do a great job as well. There is one lady that does the modifications as well. Amy is upbeat and energetic, but not in an annoying sort of way. She leads us through a warm up, cardio and strength segments followed up by a cool down.
- Not bad
     By A1PA7GOIOH10EE on 2008-03-24
This work out is pretty challenging and you will sweat. It gets a bit boring after a few times, but you'll still get a work out. The girls in the back are quite annoying, but Amy is not so bad. Although Amy recommends 3lb weights, i use 5lbs and i'm thinking of moving up a few pounds. i guess it all depends on your level. The speed between exercises is a decent pace and you get plenty of repetitions/sets. I also recommend the body circuit work out by Michelle Dozoi called "total body breakthru - body circuit" (or something along those lines, I can't remember the exact word) which is bit more challenging I think.
- This is the perfect intermediate level aerobic workout
     By A1MY1CZM8QHFGJ on 2008-04-09
I just finished watching this DVD for the first time. The moves are simple and at worst, I had to watch for a few seconds before jumping in. The workout is a good length- 40 minutes. I couldn't do it all today, but I was proud to be able to keep up the fast pace for most of it- that'll give me something to work on for the future.
I'm using it for the "cardio" portion of a regime explained in the book "Complete Book of Abs for Women," which has a lot of calisthenics type exercises for the other days.
- Great Workout
     By AK0B5A8V7QADY on 2007-12-03
This video is great. I consider myself to be in good shape, do work-out videos- TurboJam, Bikini Body, etc. This one is by far the most challenging workout I've done.
The combination of cardio and weights is great and it really pushes you to excel and get your heart rate up.
The only thing I didn't like was that the filming of it once in a while changes so that it's almost like the camera is shooting at a slight angle.
Recommend for sure-
- Good motivator
     By ADVLP5SEVA4AH on 2007-12-10
The workout is grueling, yet doable for a novice like myself - her voice is a little grating and the enthusiasm somewhat artificial, but aside from these things, I really appreciated the workout
- owwwww ....in a good way
     By A3QETC2EHTIK7G on 2008-01-12
I used to do low impact aerobics back in the day (late 80s, early 90s) and after years of running, yoga, pilates, tae bo, belly dancing, etc etc (all things I love to do) it was fun to try something different yet familiar. The moves aren't terribly creative or challenging, there are a couple hi-impact parts, and the chatter is a bit inane and irritating, but I have done this DVD twice and my butt/thighs are soooo sore - that makes me very happy. The squats and lunges are great. It made me sweat. I am in very good shape from all the other stuff I do, but my butt is my problem area - I want it to be firmer and rounder. This will help (the tae bo DVD for lower body bootcamp is really good too). I lead a fitness club for 18 year old girls at a private school, and they really didn't like the workout at all - b/c it was challenging. I liked it and plan to continue to use it as part of my own workout - that says a lot b/c I have a lot of DVDs that I am quite disappointed with and never use.
- Great workout!
     By A3QSWPZ0PK4GNG on 2008-01-23
I really like this workout - I think the length of time is good (about 40 mins), the instructor is not annoying, the moves are easy to learn. I like how it is broken into smaller sections (10 mins with weights, 10 mins cardio alternating) because it makes the whole thing go faster. I will look for more Women's Health dvds in the future.
- Super Workout
     By A21WP6FELTH4C6 on 2008-03-29
This DVD is perfect for getting an all over tough workout in under minutes. Hits all the spots. You can feel wonderfully sore (but not tortured) for a few days after this one.
- Really loved it
     By AD8V8GWKJEHIU on 2008-04-13
I found it easy to follow plus I felt like I got a great workout. I bought one of The Firm workouts (Cardio Sculpt) and really loved this one more. Amy is very upbeat and encouraging. I didn't mind the background noise, (It is very minimal), That doesn't bother me, I just wanted a good workout and got one with this dvd.
- Finally!! Not boring!!
     By A1F027JH5KCF85 on 2007-11-05
Amy Dixon does a great job of leading a workout that is interesting, challenging, and accessible to beginners. I followed the modifications for nearly all of the last cardio set, and still felt challenged. Thanks for making a video that didn't make this 20-something feel like a granny (No offense granny).
- Love it!
     By A47XGXQ4788DQ on 2008-01-22
Awesome workout! Gets me sweatin big time! I love all the hops and leaps she adds in! This is one everybody needs to have in their collection!
- This may turn a "beginner" into an "exerciser"!
     By A2MMOEVZ4DG0FX on 2008-03-22
I have never used a workout DVD, unless you count the handful of times in college that I tried to do Cindy Crawford's workout video (aaah...the 90s!). I am NOT an exerciser and never have been. Anyway, I have been alternating this DVD with the "Total Workout in 10" daily for 8 weeks. I think this one is a little harder. I agree with the others that it's very fast-paced. However, since it is broken into six different segments (2 strength w/weights, 2 cardio, plus a warm-up and cool-down), it makes the time seem to go quicker. Even on the hardest set (which, in my opinion, is the 2nd cardio one), I can get through it because I know it will be only 7 minutes or so. Amy does a great job of encouraging and explaining things. I also agree that the comments and noises from the girls in the back can be annoying (especially at 5 a.m.), but I'm probably just jealous. I will admit that after 8 weeks of doing either this or "Total Workout in 10" every morning, I have NOT lost one pound. In fact, I think I've gained a few. However, when I started this, I said I was looking not to lose weight, but to tone up, and I think I have accomplished that. My legs are definitely firmer and my arms are almost looking even a little ripped! My husband has really noticed a difference in the way I look, and he claims the extra pounds are from new muscle??? If you're a beginner and have the stubbornness like I do (meaning you won't quit even when you feel you might die on the floor), get this one! I never thought I would get to this point, but now I can actually do this entire workout now and barely break a sweat. I NEVER thought anything would turn me into a true "exerciser," but this one might do it! Don't tell anyone, but I think I almost look forward to doing it every day. I don't know how it is for experienced exercisers, but for a beginner this is great! It kicks your hiney yet makes it just easy enough that you can force yourself to keep at it without getting discouraged! Go Amy Dixon!
- Great dvd
     By A166KM8A5H1Z2O on 2008-04-08
I own alot of workout videos. Womens health videos are the best. This video is not for people who are just starting. Pretty intense strength and cardio sections. I would highly recomend this to people who want an intense 40 min workout.
- Awesome workout!
     By A1POMW3QETZLFG on 2008-04-28
Great workout that is only 40 minutes. Definitely a tough workout that gets you sweating!
- terrific
     By ASK6YHG50AZ49 on 2008-09-16
I used this DVD for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised. I'm pretty uncoordinated, but I could very easily follow the moves and steps. Plus, the instructor was fun, cute, and normal...seemed like the type of person you'd want to have coffee or go on a hike with. I really liked the encouragement and motivation, which didn't feel false or anything. Even laughed a few times at some jokes! I also thought it was great that she reminds you that you are a strong, powerful, sexy woman, and you can do this!
- I have 75 workout dvds...and this is one of the very best!
     By A17V9XL4CWTQ6G on 2008-09-30
It is rare to find a workout that is not only geared to specifically work the biggest problem areas for a woman...but, even more importantly that burns mega calories without feeling ghastly hard to do, and with an instructor who makes every move simple because of amazingly good cueing AND also builds muscle so that you continue burning more calories even during rest...
It matters not if you were picked last in every p.e. class growing up because of your lack of coordination or ability...or if you are an advanced workout afficianado...this one will still be your favorite.
The moves are explained perfectly so you can follow along easily yet the promise of "ultimate fat burn" holds true. I have a Polar F11 heart rate monitor so I'm well aware of exactly how many calories I burn per workout & this one delivers...twice as many calories burned as most of my workouts!
But do I feel crippled later because of it? Absolutely not...I feel energized and wonderful...just as this instructor is througout the entire dvd
Beginner? Follow along to the "real person" on the dvd who is still getting into shape and does simpler moves. You'll still understand all moves perfectly and easily.
More advanced? You'll get a fabulous workout. A rare find to burn this many calories in cardio and still get ultimate strength training in easy-to-follow but excellent steps.
I have a few standards that I love in my collection...the S.W.A.T cardio dvd, dvds by the trainers of the Biggest Loser (because of great cardio, strength training and not having to be a professional dancer to figure out how to do moves correctly) but this one just hit top billing.
I was floored with how many calories this burned when it went by so quickly and smoothly. A great find for any workout dvd collection.
