Spinmaster Air Hogs Battling Havoc R/C Helicoptersx$52.79

(68 reviews)

Best Price: $79.99 $52.79

Havoc Heli is the world's smallest, most advanced radio-controlled helicopter capable of incredible maneuverability. Laser Battle Helis are armed with infrared beam weapons, so you can duel in a kind of exciting real-world 3D "video game" complete with authentic battle sounds and action! Laser Battle comes complete with two Havoc Helis (each with distinctive markings) and two wireless controllers/chargers (with radio channel selector). You have two-toggle, four-way directional control of dual-rotary blades and a tail rotor fly up, down, left, right, forward, back or hover with amazing precision. You'll need it to survive! Havoc Helis are rated "Easy To Fly," which means with a little practice, anyone can pilot these like a pro.

If you enjoy the fun of radio-controlled vehicles, but don’t always want to leave the comfort of your couch to go outside and play, check out these Air Hogs Havoc Helicopters. Measuring a mere six inches long and weighing only a half pound, these small but mighty choppers are made for indoor dueling -- so you don’t have to quit flying just because of bad weather or a dark sky. A crash-resistant foam fuselage means you can perfect your piloting skills using the dual-toggle, single-throttle wireless controller. The twin drive props in back and dual rotors on top provide exceptional stability and precise six-way directional control -- up, down, left, right, forward, and back. Sled-style landing gear means set-downs should be gentle, too.

Single Copter
The tiny flier fits easily in the palm of your hand.
Not just for meant flying solo, the Havoc copters are designed for fun with others. In what is almost like a live video game, each helicopter uses its infrared beam weapons to engage in a mid-air battle against the other. The first pilot to hit his opponent three times with the beam (complete with battle sounds) will be victorious as the enemy heads into a wild tailspin. Six AA batteries are required, but not included, for the remote controls. The helicopters are powered by rechargeable lithium batteries, and the charger comes with the set.

  • Fun toys ... But sort of hard to fly

    By ABXLIP9GU5E3M on 2007-11-07
I purchased this set with the dreams of flying around the room battling with friends. I was some what disappointed on this level. Is it a fun toy? absolutely. Would I have loved to had one when I was a kid? Absolutely. The commercials do not portray them the way they really are though. Your going to need a big room in order to achieve hovering. Then if you are able to get a shot off at the other helicopter in the five minutes your lucky. The right joy stick only has left and right movement so you are really limited on the amount of control you have to fly around the room. If your a kid, then this will be an awesome toy. Who hasn't dreamed of flying a tiny remote control toy in the house. If your an older kid at heart, then this toy isn't for you. You'll do as I did, play with it, get frustrated at how hard they are to maneuver and return them so you can have your 70 bucks back.

  • These things rock!

    By A2JF6BWUSDDDEU on 2007-08-16
I got these today and they are so much fun! I had one of the origin havoc heli and have been waiting until these were released. They fly as good if not better then the original havoc's.

The controllers have buttons that allow you to shoot at the other heli and make a machine guns sound. When a heli gets "hit" then it beings to spin out on control and falls from the air.

This is really a great set for anyone that likes these types of toys.

  • Really fun, good build quality

    By AAJPPSAUBPKOB on 2007-11-08
I'm a HUGE fan of the Air Hogs line - most of their planes and helicopters are really fun. These little units are similar in size and shape to the other Air Hogs helicopter - the Havoc, but it's not the same. The body shape is slightly different, and it uses a more dense type of foam, and the rear rotor seems to have been improved a bit.

The fighting is pretty good, but sometimes it's difficult to actually aim the buggers - that could be my own lack of skill talking, but it's something to consider. It's also quite ok from the remote's perspective to just hold down the trigger and fire RF everywhere, and since it bounces off walls, in a small room this could make the game less enjoyable/challenging.

Keep in mind that you really don't need two people to play unlike other games - if two people are around, great, if not, the havocs are a ton of fun to fly by themselves.

Like the original havoc, these guys need a little weight (a few nails does the trick) to fly forward, otherwise they hover and float on air currents.

  • FUN! An excellent gift idea.

I was hesitant to buy this based on previous bad luck with Air Hogs products. However, I risked it and bought it for my son's eleventh birthday. My two boys LOVE these things, and I have been surprised that they have actually lasted a few days, proving to be more durable than their lightweight and skimpy appearance would suggest.

Understand that you only get about 5 minutes of flying time before a 15-20 minute recharge is needed. Also, while they are more controllable than the players in the old vibrating football game, don't count on being able to perform precision maneuvers or even to be able to always get it to go in the general direction that you like. That being said, everything else about these copters is fun. The helicopters spin out of control for a second or two after getting shot, but a good pilot flying high should be able to recover. The IR range seems to be decent as my boys have been able to shoot each other down from across the room.

The helicopters are awesome if they work - I just don't like "ifs" when I buy toys for my son. One helicopter worked right out of the box. The second one would not fly correctly no matter how much tinkering I did with the tail rotors and blades. Now the original is not working after a fair bit of use by my son and I guess I need to order new blades. But, for the time it flew, it was a lot of fun for my son (and me too). I cannot recommend them due to the lack of reliability.

  • Extremely Fragile
    By A2G4RIRNKPM9CS on 2007-11-20
This is a great toy, if only it lasted more than 5 minutes! Every conceivable part of this toy has broken and been replaced, just to break again. If only the damn thing was durable it'd get 5 stars from me!

  • Need More
    By AI8EMB0HUC6Z5 on 2007-11-29
First, a recommendation. Buy a few of the non dogfight variety also. Very useful for training and testing modifications. Oh yeah - mods. There are mods. Sadly, I can't paste URLs in an amazon review. hint: piccoztoolbox

Also, you can fight with the regular helis by getting over top your opponent and using your rotor down wash.

As for these little dog fighters ... Very cool. Reflected IR beams can be a problem, but in reality they can add an aspect of strategy to the fight. If the other guy gets next to a wall or into a corner, they deserve to catch a reflection. The center of the room, if the room is large enough, is the best place for avoiding reflections.

By the way, additional forward speed seems to help most folks control the heli, but doesn't help in a dogfight.

  • Fun for all ages
    By A2CYK39C55OXWZ on 2007-11-16
I bought these for my husband's birthday. Needless to say, everyone in the house quickly got into the action. Our sons, ages 7 and 9 have become quite proficient at flying the helicopters. Thus far the helicopters haven't broken, even after being crashed into other objects many, many times. I bought the extra parts to be prepared, but haven't used them yet. You can fly them around a room and shoot each other, but don't expect to be able to have precise control - flying through a doorway can be challenging. A lot of fun and I've recommended these to friends.

  • Spinmaster spins heads and wreaks havoc alright!
    By ANLGL7MA8K91L on 2007-11-25
I was lucky enough to try out a friends set before deciding to purchase the set for my boys. I found them difficult to handle and was disappointed in the short time that they held the charge. My friends son was enamoured with them at first and does not use them as much anymore. (He had gotten them for his birthday only a short while ago)He has had to already replace the back end. Although I am sure that my boys would enjoy them, I am eaqually sure that they would be highly frustrated with the lack of manuverability and the short stint of play time with these as is the 11 year old that I played with. I will opt to spend our Christmas dollars on something else that will hopefully not be a quick fad toy that they loose interest in quickly.

  • A Fun Novelty
    By A1VMWNXUC3KVPC on 2007-12-08
These helicopters are rated easy to fly, and that's somewhat accurate. It's not hard to get them airborne, but it takes some practice before you can keep them from running into walls, and you can never truly make them go where you want. However, I used them in a cramped office setting - which makes it extra challenging to fly - and still had a lot of fun. Regardless of how tricky they are to fly, you will find yourself improving with a little practice and the novelty of a mini-chopper doesn't wear of fast. It remains the coolest office toy and gets way more use than the remote controlled cars, paper airplanes. etc. These choppers are proving very rugged, as we've crashed them repeatedly into walls and the ceiling. Battery life seems a little better than advertised. Lastly, the infrared laser works great and shooting down your opponent never gets old. :)

I got a shred of educational value when one chopper started spinning in circles. A long hair was wrapped onto the back propeller, and I remembered from a video game that a chopper will only spin in circles if the back propeller is blown....it's true! :D Take a second to fix the back propeller and you're all set.

  • Battery is too weak
    By A2MZD3L9QRMR8P on 2007-11-26
The battery can't support the flight for 2 min. It just go down very quickly.

  • Hours of fun
    By A2F44XJVL7H0L9 on 2007-11-29
My boys love the battling Havoc helicopters. The only down fall that I see is that the tiny connectors under the top roter blades are weakend with every crash. My boys have had lots of fun with these helicopters.

  • Buyer Beware Buying from BlackSheepDeals (Amazon Retailer)
    By AVOJUUNMO6HN4 on 2008-02-01
I bought this product from BlackSheepDeals through Amazon as a Christmas gift for my son and he received two of these. I returned this product after being told that they have a 7 day return policy and that they would charge a restocking fee for the product. I was very dissappointed that Amazon would allow a retailer doing business this way on their site. I sent back the product and they charged a 35% RESTOCKING FEE!!! This is outrageous! Do not buy from this company!

  • Best Toy Ever!!!
    By A8GEPKMYRH66X on 2007-12-06
I just can't understand all the naysayers about this toy. After a little practice my friends and I are having awesome dogfights. They are actually quite controllable once you get the hang of it. Smooth flying can achieve 10 minute flights. My 1st set of helis have hundreds of flights and probably thousands of crashes on them and they are still flying!

It is simply astounding that you can get this level of technology in a cheap indestructable toy.

One last tip: You need to fly in VERY calm areas. That means closing all doors/windows and turning off any heaters or A/C. Trust me, it makes a HUGE difference.

  • Office entertainment
    By A3JCUC0QMFW8HX on 2007-12-03
Despite being a small styrofoam helicopter that has a relatively short battery life, these toys have proved to be an entertaining office distraction. They are quite durable, though a little tricky to fly.

All in all, I believe they're worth the money.

  • Make sure you have a wide open space
    By A3TVG0KBU81Z6Z on 2007-12-07
I banged these around pretty good before I had my first mechanical failure with one of the rotors so they are somewhat durable. I would have liked to have had more control using the transmitter as the up and down works well but turning left to right is not easy. Also, one of the units charging connectors doesn't attach securely which I've gotten used to but was a little frustrating at first.

  • AIr Hogs Havoc Helicopters
    By A2K5CK1NNMHNUH on 2007-12-11
These helicopters work surprisingly well. They are definitely fun to fly against each other. Don't expect the capability for pinpoint control, especially in the beginning but they are still definitely worth the money.

  • Lots of Fun!
    By AC8ODMCBW5GUX on 2007-12-26
My 6 year old son received this gift. It's durable and easy to control. We had an old remote control plane years ago and my husband and I never got it to work. These little helicopters really zoom around and are a blast to play with!

  • Fun, while they last.
    By A31SU1JLNX26T1 on 2007-12-26
I would first like to state that I am a thrity-something'er and at no time were these toys used by "children" only myself, father and uncle.

The on/off toggle switch located on the side of the heli is so small I could barely move it with my finger but it did seem, once attached to the charging unit, to charge quickly. In no time at all we were in the air; not so much flying, mind you, just tail spinning. It took much longer than anticipated to learn how to fly properly.

After several hours- as you fly for 5 minutes and have to charge again for another 20- we got to the point of being able to fly and actually fire at one another. Crashes and nosedives occur more often than flying in a straight line, yet with it's Styrofoam bodies the crashes are not at all life threatening. A rotor blade actually ripped in half and was repaired with scotch tape from one heli, yet when another hit a carpet, the carpet fibers got wound in the tail rotor thus making it unrepairable and unable to fly.

This was used for one day, and unless the helicopter gets replaced (for $80!!) it will never be used again.

EDIT: upon further review tiny carpet fibers were only wrapped around the rotor and once taken apart and with the aid of a magnifier the problem seems to be taken care of. Still has not improved the handling.

  • family fun
    By A98A6ZLUJ0WPI on 2007-12-27
The helicopters were easy to control after just a few minutes of play. Fun for the whole family. Like all rechargeables, I wish the charge would last longer. Each controller takes 6 AA batteries. The contollers also serve as the charging station for the helicopters. Each charge is good for about 10 minutes of play. Then you must wait 10-15 minutes for the units to cool before you can recharge them again - which takes about 15 minutes. So it will be a minumum of 20 -30 minutes before you can play again.

  • good family fun, but patience needed for initial learning
    By A1YVTI9727EDA3 on 2007-12-28
my college boys really enjoyed this Christmas gift, flying the two helis together and trying to laser-blast each others

  • Not very durable!
    By A3HI45JHQFCL0Z on 2008-01-11
I bought 4 sets of these for my grandsons for Christmas and only one is still working -for the price they break far too easily - my grandsons range from 10 years to 4 years old - these do not fly very well and need charged far too much ! I really think these are for much older children.

  • Not durable
    By A3JQ48OAXSJ0BL on 2008-01-15
I purchased this for Christmas for my son. This was all he talked about after seeing it on TV. One helicopter wouldn't ever fly correctly, always acted like it needed reset. Oh, well. We had the other one and he loved it for 3 days until the roters on the top broke off after hitting the wall. I purchased additional ones which my husband put on. He has to keep adjusting these after each time it flys, sometime successfully, sometimes not. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, especially at the price, until they make it more durable or they make it so you can change out the blades. I am completely unsatisfied.

  • Not for those who live at altitude!
    By A30R8VFR16RE32 on 2008-01-16
I bought these for my hubby for Christmas, and the entire family was super stoked about battling each other--we have really tall ceilings (about 22 feet) in the living room... BUT we also live at 5200 feet in altitude and the air is too thin to make these things fly. They did great about 2 inches (or less) off of the ground. We brought them down to sea level (to a family member's house) and they flew just fine. What a bummer!!! They are really fun, and terrific in every way--unless you live in the mountains.
We sadly returned them. :( Maybe one day they'll fix the problem, but until then...

  • Fun while they lasted
    By A2MQWCPUN3SS3Z on 2008-01-24
Like most remote control toys these VERY EXPENSIVE helicopters are fragile. In the hands of a typical little boy (8-10), these tiny plastic flying machines will be inoperable in less than a week. The commercial shows them flying around the inside of a house, shooting lasers at each other. Not gonna happen. They are almost impossible to fly straight, let alone keep in the air.
Outside is better. You can stay on the throttle without running into a ceiling. But be careful, if you have a destructive backyard dog, this will be a nice 1 minute chew toy.

    Bottom Line:
Very fun for someone who would take very good care of them. Otherwise you are burning money.

  • Lots of Fun
    By A23FYPU58QA05B on 2008-07-04
Not the easiest thing to fly and they do kind of have a mind of their own but a ton of fun. You definitely need a large room (preferably with high ceilings) to get the best out of them. Great toy for both little and big kids.

  • sincerely dissapointed
    By ARPXHTA8PGRBL on 2007-12-12
Even though I know that what you see on television is not reality, I did not suspect to have such frustration with this toy. Mind you this is the first time that I have operated a flying rc toy but have driven many cars and grew up with a game controller in my hand. It seems incredibly hard to get these helicopters to fly straight, you are constantly "trimming" them just to get them to hover straight. I spent an hour or 2 a day trying to get the hover right, however with only a 3 to 5 minute fly time (after about 31/2 minutes, the batteries power has diminished) and a 15 to 20 minute recharge time, they are so not worth the money!! I will now only by items like this if I can get a chance to try them first!

  • awsome
    By AARTJXEUASVQO on 2007-12-25
I bought this toy for an 10 year old , he loved it , the older kids , which are all grown up , loved it too ,it really got passed around . Great for all ages . easy to fly , easy to control . awsome toy
    highly recomend

  • Lots of fun, but hard to control
    By A1RYMEEZAAUOB5 on 2007-12-26
We bought this for our 6 year old son for Christmas. Although it is a considerable improvement over the Air Hogs RC helicopter we got him for his birthday, it is still very difficult to control. Having the trim adjustments on the controller is a big improvement over having to turn a little wheel on the top of the propeller, it is still very difficult to trim as well. It is alot of fun to play around with and I like that it comes with 2 of them so that we can both play with them. We flew them for about an hour and nothing broke. Overall, lots of fun, but hard to control even for an adult.

  • Disappointed
    By A1NXOQ6P40OGLJ on 2007-12-26
Christmas present, son very excited about it... sadly, one of the helicopters never took off. We charged it hoping this would solve the problem, but it didn't. The helicopter was defective and so what should've been a happy Christmas moment with a fun toy ended up being a disappointing time. Returned it for a refund since these helicopters are kind of fragile and there's no reason to believe a replacement will work better.
