  • FANTASTIC GAME FOR GIRLS (on Nintendo DS platform)

    By ANUBY6KOT60WH on 2008-01-26
This is by far one of my daughter's favorite games for Nintendo DS. She is 8 years old.I purchased her this title along with "Barbie Island Princess" but "Fashion Designer" has been so much fun she has barely touched "Island Princess"!
I was very intrigued (given that my daughter is a big Barbie fan) so I begun to play "Fashion Designer" to see what was it all about. Inmediately got caught in the game dynamics and fun. Basically the player is sort of a fashion design director for a modeling agency. There are different "assignments" in which a contractor request specific things for different products. For example, "a boot designer request a model for its most recent line of winter boots. Contract involves making of a catalogue and a photo shoot so you need to select the appropriate location, wardrobe and accesories. First start selecting your model..." and so the fun begins!
The player gets the chance to select models (each one has different facial and racial features), and also select hairdos, clothing, accesories, makeup features (eyeshadows, lipstic, blush, eyelashes...).
You can also design your own clothes by selecting different pieces and cuts, fabrics, imprints... The player can also select photo shoot locations, and actually shoot photo portfolios for each model according to assignments. You can also you direct your own runway show, teaching the models how to walk, poise, turn, etc...
Of course, ocassionally the contractor is not happy with the result so it will request the player to review specific items (like wardrobe, makeup, hairdo, accesories...) but this only adds more fun to the game.
The game is GREAT. If you happen to be looking for great games for girls on Nintendo DS (as I desperately was when I purchased this title) I strongly encourage you to get "Imagine Fashion Designer". You will watch your little girl having hours and hours of endless fun with it.

    DEFINITELY NOT "E" FOR EVERYONE.
My 8 year old daughter received this as a gift for Christmas and was very excited to try it out. While watching her navigate through the programs, one feature caught my eye. Not in a good way. The dressing area is where the models can try on the clothes that she designed. You can undress the models down to their "sexy" lingerie. There are a plethora of lingerie choices available and all are very skimpy. This concerns me. I could understand a leotard or not allowing the models to be seen in their underwear at all, but lacy, skimpy bras and panties? When the model tries on mini skirts, the viewer gets a glimpse of the panties underneath - yes, there's a crotch shot in this game! I have a 13 year old boy and I could easily see how that could become facinating if he caught a glimpse of these features as well. I personally don't think this is an appropriate feature for a rated E game. I trusted that E rating. Talk about the oversexualization of our kids! Besides, I wouldn't want my kids to be wearing all the skimpy clothes on this game. Parents beware. I'm going to try and return it or toss it.

  • Perfect for your daughter

    By A3SL1CJSX8I2B3 on 2007-12-27
My daughter and her friends all have a Nintendo DS. But there are very few games that are for girls. Sure, there are a few, but she often ends up just playing her brothers' games. She was so excited when she saw the TV ad for Imagine Fashion Designer, so I bought it for her back in November. She loved it. So she asked for the Animal Doctor game, and I bought it for Christmas. Another winner. I don't know all the ins and outs of the games, but I have watched her play and they have surprising depth. And most importantly, they are safe. Safe, fun. and made for HER - not her brothers. Happy imagining :)

  • My 10 Year Old Daughter LOVES This Game!

    By A1WA61HFH38QTA on 2008-01-07
My youngest daughter loves to draw and design clothes so I thought this would be a neat game to give her for her 10th birthday back in November. I had no idea what I was buying or what a huge hit it would be! The first day she spent hours playing it and begged us to let her take it to bed with her to play "just for a little while" until she fell asleep. We finally had to take it away from her! Weeks later and she's still playing with it and designing clothes. I have to admit - I like it myself. The "buyer" lets you know what they want to purchase and you come up with the look - everything from hair color and style, to make up and jewelry as well as clothing. Then it's off to the photo shoot to see if the buyer likes your creation. There are so many levels that we haven't made it through all of them yet! I don't know how well kids younger than 9 would do with this game - but I can tell you that older kids love it as well. When my daughter took her DS with her to the babysitter's house, there were older tweens and teens hanging out for the day and they were all over it as well. They thought it was the coolest game they had ever played and were ready to fight over whose turn it was to play next!

  • A Bit of a Letdown

    By A1AHEOPBL7GJ1P on 2008-04-11
I was really excited about receiving this game for my birthday (13th) and was a little disappointed with the game. It is still quite fun, but probably not worth thirty dollars.

You are the head of an agency and are required to do certain tasks (some of which have clues that are difficult and hard to figure out, but every time you have to redo it, you lose everything. So if only one thing on the makeup was wrong, you have to fix it, AND redo the dressing, photo shoot, and 5 catwalks THAT TAKE FOREVER!) The free mode is more fun, as you are unlimited in terms of everything.

The workshops include hair (picking between few styles and colors), beauty (picking between few, premade makeup looks), dressing (putting clothes on the model), designing (picking between a few different cuts on a premade design. A bit dissappointed considering there is a TOUCH SCREEN!!!!), catwalk (a few mundane mini games that cause your model to perform well or not), and photography (the fun one, where you choose how the model looks, poses, where, what shade, etc. Then click, you have a photo). The photo shop is the best part of the game by far, while the rest is DEFINITELY aimed at a younger audience.

Overall, this game is iffy. It has it's good points, and would be good for a younger age if not for the frustrating clues (or lack of).

Also, I would like to report a problem. When I take out this game on my lite after playing and insert another game, it says that there is no game pak inserted. So every time, I have to put it back in, take it out, and reinsert the other game. Talk about frustrating! This happened with every Imagine game I've tried!

I am glad I have the game for certain parts, but also glad I didn't pay for it! Consider this carefully before buying. P.S. The graphics are not impressive! Try Animal Crossing Wild World for impressive! Love it!

  • This is the most fun game I have ever played!
    By on 2007-12-31
This game is so fun! I love that I can design clothes and choose the colors and paterns. It is easy to do, you just use the pen. Even my older sister, who is 13, loves the game too. I am so glad I got it!!

  • Mom & Daughter agree it's AWESOME!
    By A2LU79CF8REKS7 on 2008-03-08
My 8 year old daughter says, "It's awesome to some kids my age, but could be challenging to younger kids because you have to be able to read and know about different (fashion)styles. It's easy to figure out the game, but it's sometimes hard to figure out the designs so that part is hard. I like the runway a lot and the photo shoot is my favorite."
Mom says, "I like to see my daughter immediately enjoy a game without being frustrated trying to figure it out. I think she has actually learned from this game - she didn't know what some colors look like, lilac was one of them, or 70's, African, or Goth fashion styles. She learned what lingerie is. At first I was surprised this was in the game, but people do wear undergarments. She has asked a lot of questions about designing, if you have to go to school to be a designer, etc."
Overall, she is really excited about the game and we recommend it.

  • Fashion Designer
    By AFPBFKDNFLA24 on 2008-01-18
I purchased "Fashion Designer" DS Nintendo game for Christmas for my 13-year old granddaughter. Her aspiration is to become a fashion designer or graphic art major. Needless to say, she loves the ability to be creative! She, also, has a 11 year sister who likes to play it too!

  • GOOD INTRODUCTION TO DESIGNING
    By A1L19BZNAOO6MA on 2008-04-03
This game is a good introduction for young folks in designing fashion. I like the concept it has for "assignments" where you have to please a client in their requests for fashions.

The designer has to come up with make-up, clothes and sometimes accessories and hair styles to pass the assignment to move on to the next task.

I didn't find anything in this to be particularly suggestive or even suggest nudity or anything out of the ordinary in dealing with clothing or the dressing of models.

I recommend this game. Especially young folks will love it. I thought it was kind of fun and I'm an adult!

  • her favorite Christmas present
    By ANBWXEUV7IS79 on 2008-02-14
a little fluffy and silly, but terribly fun to play!
You get to "design" your own clothes, coax the model down the runway, pick hairstyles and hair colors and make-up.

Mother and daughter both like it

  • This game is fun but ends way to fast...
    By ALUT5CPKUZIMP on 2008-03-02
I played this game a lot because it was a lot of fun but by the end of the next day the game was already over just as you start to get good at doing the fashion shows the game ends the game does get a little harder toward the end but as much fun as this game is it ends way too quick you can still design clothes and do fashion shows but with out having clients making orders it gets old real fast...

  • Imagine Fashion Designer
    By AC7ZKX125572B on 2008-01-17
My daughter got this for Christmas and loves it. She doesn't play a lot of games, but really liked this one because she could pretend to do something that seemed like real life.

  • 9 year-old girl's opinion
    By on 2008-05-09
I really liked this game because it gives you the chance to show how you feel about fashion. I recommend it for young teenagers who like fashion and might want to be a designer or model when they grow up. Before you can start a collection, you have to pass tests to unlock all the stations. Then you can start a collection. I hope you enjoy this game if you get it because I enjoyed it very much.

  • tests your knowledge.
    By A15LAHNIXUF3XN on 2008-02-17
this game rly tests your knowledge bout fashion.i'm a girl that loves to be pretty and maybe pretty good fashion.this game is bout fulfilling requests for many different continents and states.also different periods of time, lik dha 1780s and stuff.i dun noe anything bout that and got stuck on few requests after playing 4 days.takes a long time for me to pass...got tired of doing it over and over again!if yu want this game,yu better learn all bout gothic and other kind of fashions.

  • Good for younger girls
    By A2HBS55KTLWXNT on 2008-06-08
If you want a video game for a girl under 13 then this one is it. It took me (I'm 29) about 3 hours to complete the whole game (the "Blue" Challenge took me forever!!) but I imagine a younger girl will be entertained with this for much longer. If you have a girl older than 13 then you might want to get her something a little more challenging, unless all she wants to do is design clothes instead of complete missions. The patterns the game comes loaded with are kind of ugly so I mainly stuck to the plain colors. I wish there was more of a sweater collection and more jewelry than just necklaces. Over all, I think this is a good game for young girls and I'd recommend it.

  • Very Fun...
    By A3PFUVGPU7QIKF on 2008-07-28
This game was very fun for me,15. It was fun but i completed it in about 2 days... not long at all. I loved designing the clothes. I recommend buying this item, but i think that this game is more of a 13 and under game.

  • Warning to parents
    By APBNIIH4IKAJN on 2008-11-14
My daughter, 13, purchased this game and enjoyed playing it except for one GLARING problem. One of the fashion shoots requires the player to dress the model in lingerie! The "mild suggestive themes" listed on the box, I thought ment the skimpy outfits, but no. I amazed that a game company would include this content in a game for kids! It is not a game we are keeping, and now cannot return.

  • great game
    By A18L8L1L6Z48FH on 2008-06-07
This game is fun. The japanese shots are a little hard though. The graphics are also a little grainy. If your daaughter is in to designing and stuff, this is your game

  • Great Game!
    By A2K0F4EIC1NP11 on 2008-07-17
My daughter, 11, LOVES this game! So do I ! It's challenging and fun! The graphics are good and the assignments given range from easy to really challenging. Really holds her interest. The "Imagine" games are fun learning games. I look forward to getting her the "Imagine - Teacher" game.
