  • Back button advertised but not supported

    By A21VUED7W13H7M on 2007-11-07
I bought this mouse for two reasons...Bluetooth (thus no receiver needed) and the back button.

When I set up the mouse in Mac OS X 10.5 (which is listed as a supported OS for this mouse, right on the package), there is no option to assign the "Back" button. The "Back" button does not work.

I called Microsoft support, they researched the issue and (to their credit) called me back, and confirmed that the latest Microsoft mouse software does not support this mouse with regard to the "Back" button.

The tech supervisor even told me point blank that the mouse was released with knowledge that it did not fully work.

Other than this missing functionality (which is frankly all I wanted this model for), it works fine. However, be warned...the features and compatibility listed on the package and here on Amazon do NOT reflect the actual features and compatibility of this mouse. In my opinion, this is false advertising, thus despite it's otherwise good quality I only give it one of five stars.

    UPDATE (July 2008)
Steermouse does fully support this mouse, and the new Logitech I bought to replace it. Despite being a Mac user, I'd long believed Microsoft made good mice, but this one changed my mind to a degree. The wheel started losing sensitivity and came loose less than a year after buying it, as well. I also recently reconnected with an old Navy buddy who now works for Microsoft in the hardware department, he did some checking and confirmed that the driver did not initially support Mac OS (despite the advertised compatibility) and that there is no push or intention to update it to make the back button work. I don't recommend this mouse, unless you are a Windows user (and like a loose scroll wheel).

  • Very good bluetooth mouse

    By A3NG4HM0P9OIED on 2007-12-12
I have been using this mouse for almost a month now and I am very satisfied with it. It is smaller than most mice, but fits snuggly in my hand, considering that I have big hands. It is very responsive (sometimes too responsive) and the back button and mouse wheel complement its functionality. The battery indicator is another great plus, cause at least you can get a warning when you are running low; although it is very energy-efficient, I'm still using the packed standard AAA batteries with an average of 6-7 hours of daily use. And the power switch is also great for saving energy.

    To sum up, Pros:
    - Excellent Microsoft design (esthetical, ergonomical)
    - Great price
    - Very responsive (it's laser, not optical)
    - Great battery life (I'll let you know on the comments when the first pair of batteries run out. I already have a rechargeable pair on stand-by).
    - Instant pairing with bluetooth enabled PC's (I did not try it on a Mac)
    - Back button functionality
    - Power switch lets you turn it off when not in use to save battery, and you just turn it on and in a couple of seconds it reconnects (this has been a life-saver since I walk away from my desk very often, and I would not like that some envious co-worker "borrowed" it for his home, and it fits quite nicely on my shirt or pants pocket)
    - It glides very smoothly on almost any surface (even on my bed sheets)
    - It comes with a nice carry-bag.

    Cons:
    - It has dropped the connection about 5 or 6 times during the time I have been using it, but it reconnects after turning on and off again. Kind of annoying.
    - I wish it had a forward buttong as well.
    - It is somethimes too responsive, depending on the surface you wear it on. I fixed this by tweaking the mouse sensitivity on the Windows mouse settings.

    I recommend this bluetooth mouse.

UPDATE (2/23/08): Well, the battery indicator is going red now (3 months after I started using it), but, if I could, I would downgrade my rating to 3 stars because of the following: The power switch broke like a week ago (the damn thing kinda got loose of it's place and still moves, but it doesn't change the power state). I tried going DIY and tried fixing it myself, but ended up getting it worse, although I managed the leave the power on. This means poor craftsmanship from Microsoft, because I consider I did not misused the mouse. I now can't turn the mouse off, so I have to remove the batteries every time I don't use it. This resulted on casting the mouse aside and leaving it just for special occasions (long meetings or surfing @ home).

I still consider the mouse is good, but this has negatively changed my opinion on Microsoft hardware (don't even get me started on their SW).

  • Very nice,Small size,Good quailty,Easy to install...

    By A2ZYKKVYUIMKGB on 2007-10-22
This mouse is perfect for me and it's 100% comfortable with my smaller than normal hand.It takes less than 3 minutes to install without any CDs(also they not provide any)in My ASUS G1S Vista Home,It's small to carry around and have a small carrying case to carry it around, that's bluetooth and there's no need for USB ports although you should have bluetooth enabled computer.
This is just perfect bluetooth mouse in the market now.

  • Warning: No Product-Specific Driver Support

    By A1CCOB2F3F9VCQ on 2007-11-08
This mouse works as advertised on a ThinkPad notebook running Windows XP. Bluetooth pairing was painless, and I'm pleased with the smooth functioning of the mouse, not to mention the elimination of the transceiver unit--one more black box I'd have to schlep around.

Size and shape are matters of personal preference, and I agree with a previous reviewer who suggested trading off some comfort is an acceptable compromise for portability. Overall, this mouse has a quality feel and seems to be well made; it has a nice heft to it, and the buttons and wheel provide solid, reassuring tactile feedback.

My biggest beef with this mouse is the lack of a dedicated or inclusive driver. It does not come with a driver disk, and it is not listed among the supported models in the latest Microsoft IntelliPoint software. Please don't misunderstand: this mouse works fine out of the box under Win XP (and, presumably, Vista). You'll only want a new driver if you're not happy with the default button assignments.

I called Microsoft technical support about this omission, and they confirmed anyone who wants to reassign button functions is SOL... for now. The tech rep would not confirm whether a future version of IntelliPoint would support this mouse, but I remain hopeful.

As of this writing (8 November 2007), therefore, I cannot wholeheartedly recommend this mouse. As soon as the software side of things catch up, I'll be singing a different tune.

  • Decent product undermined by poor execution

    By A9JA0MI0GFQ39 on 2008-03-18

I like the size of this mouse; it's a little larger than my old wireless-with-USB Notebook Optical Mouse 5000. But that's about the only good think I can say for the product.

The ergonomic design is a failure. There's a switch onthe back labelled with the "0/1" symbol for power. But it's a slider switch; is power on when it is to the left, or to the right? Why didn't Microsoft label it? The battery light might show steady green, flashing green, or flashing red. Is that indicating connection status to me, or battery status, or both?

The mouse is unsupported; in February and March of 2008, I tried to download documentation for it from the Microsoft site, but it isn't listed in the drop-down lists at the mouse documentation page. It's amazing that Microsoft will spend so much effort on developing and shipping a product, only to blunder support for it by forgetting to post a link to it on a website. If Microsoft has so many products that they can't remember to post all the docs (or notice when some are missing), how can they realistically expect customers to know which product to choose?

I've used the mouse happily for the last four months or so, but now that it is failing to connect to my machine, I can't continue to use it until I find some documentation...

  • JUST WHAT I WANTED
    By A1CXPD0LVJU6BC on 2007-10-12
This is just what I wanted. A Bluetooth Mouse to use with my Vista HP dv2500 bluetooth integrated notebook. It DOES NOT use a USB receiver, and it runs on two AAA batteries (included). Typical Microsoft hardware quality (very good). It took 30 seconds to set up, and all I have to do to use it each time I fire up my notebook is have it turned on. It's very accurate, comfortable (for being tiny), and has an extra back button on the left side that works with your browser. It is very small, I do wish it were bigger.. but it will travel easy. Has a battery indicator on the top that only lights up when alterting you to low charge. I'm also going to submit my own photos. They don't provide any instructions telling you about the mouse itself, only a setup foldout and those stupid "don't take a bath with it or stare into the laser" legal safeguard brochures... I assume I should shut if off via the switch on bottom when done, can't remember if it autoshuts off or not.

  • The Worst Mouse Ever! Plus Zero Support!
    By A1GGSW8VATO5KN on 2007-12-01
Hi, I'm from Singapore and I bought this mouse on 16 Nov when it was first released in Singapore. I liked the look, colour, and design of this mouse, and the Bluetooth function worked flawlessly, but this is the worst mouse I've ever bought. What's the reasons:

    1. Before opening the package of this mouse (and any other Microsoft Mouse), you cannot tell if the scroll wheel is smooth and frictionless, sticky and rubbery but lack tactile feedback, or with the tactile feedback that most mouse provides. This mouse provides the tactile feedback type scroll wheel.... In comparison, all Logitech mouse provide standard and consistent tactile feedback, except for the new MX/VX Revolution/Nano with MicroGear Scroll Wheel which can switch between smooth frictionless scrolling and tactile feedback scrolling. And you can tell that by looking at the box!

    2. The scroll wheel is a hugh disaster! The spring loaded tactile feedback is so strong that within an hour of use, my finger is already in pain. Also, this scroll wheel has several design flaws. Firstly, scrolling down is relatively quiet, but scrolling up produces a distracting 'tack', 'tack', 'tack' sound that'll drive you nuts! Also, at a certain position when scrolling down, the scroll wheel will get stuck and I need to use even high force to 'jump' over the stuck position. I've used mouse from cheap unbranded make, I've used Logitech's mouse, I've used Labtec cordless mouse, and even A4Tech's mouse, but they all have a consistent and comfortable scroll wheel tactile feedback.

    3. The Back button cannot be re-assigned to another function, even when I installed the latest Microsoft IntelliPoint 6.2 software. I couldn't even find support for this mouse from the list of mouse that this software supports! Although the mouse does not require any software to work on its own, installing the Microsoft IntelliPoint software provides features such as customising the scroll speed, and providing indication on battery strength. However, even choosing another similar mouse with a customisable Back button does not allow me to customise this mouse's Back button. It's stuck to standard IE Back function!

    4. Finally, the support from Microsoft totally sucks! Within a day of purchase, I used the microsoft support web site to complain about the mouse. I keyed in my mouse's product ID and it shows that the mouse I purchased qualified for on-line support. I then type out my unhappiness and demanded for warranty support to either repair, replace, or refund my purchase. I received an e-mail confirmation stating that Microsoft will reply to me on my submission in 1 business day. Guess what? 2 weeks later and I didn't even hear them fart! They have failed terribly on their on promise on customer support!

I've used and liked Logitech products but has never experienced such poor design like microsoft's. Wonder what engineer they employed to design their hardware.

By the way, I threw in this mouse for free (even though it cost me SIN$74.90) when a buyer bought my laptop. Guess no hard feelings for me since I HATED this mouse so much! If I used it for another day, I'll damned sue Microsoft for finger injuries.

Buyers beware! Judge for yourself if my experience is the truth or I'm just trying to make a piss at microsoft....

    Thanks!

  • Mac OSX Leopard and THIS
    By A33OKST55PAVY6 on 2007-11-29
I just recently purchased the MS Notebook Mouse 5000 and I also upgraded to Mac OSX Leopard. Leopard seems to allow me to use the Mouse 4 (back) button as I have assigned it to trigger spaces. It is pretty amazing to have that and work quickly between spaces and creating different contextual work environments for my productivity.

I heard of problems of using the back button for browsing - and I played with it a little to see if I could come up with something but I still can't figure out how to assign that button to the "back" function. But it seems like there is hope that this can be done since OS X will detect the mouse4 (as I have successfully bound it to Spaces app under the Spaces preferences.

I would imagine it is only a matter of time until someone creates a hack to bind the mouse4 to the delete button to be used as a quick run around to the browser back problem. But then I guess it would be dangerous if you accidentally pushed it on an important file. Then again there is Time Machine...

Anyway - the mouse is everything it says it is except for the Mouse 4 button which if you are happy with using it for Spaces - makes this a good product. Still, I think it is terrible when a product is touted as OS X capable and not fully functional so as a recommendation to other Mac users, I'm going to give this a 3. If you want to set it up for Spaces like I do, then you'll like the experience and the rating might bump up to around 4 or 5.

  • This mouse is next-to-worthless
    By A1V3K1RCL22MEI on 2008-02-18
There have been multiple flaws when trying to use this mouse with my MacBook Pro:

    - First and foremost, the mouse will not re-connect after being turned off or going to sleep.
    - The mouse is diminuitive. It may be ergonomic for small children, but for adults it's like using a toy (aka very frustrating).
    - No Microsoft support on their website. No documentation. No software downloads. Entering the Product ID for support by email yields an error message saying "An unknown application error occured".
    - No software support (though I was well aware of this before purchasing).

The only good things about this mouse are that it is Bluetooth, and that it can be easily returned to Amazon.com.

I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that there might be some trick to getting the mouse to re-connect after powering it down, but if you can't get in touch with them (I don't have the time to wait on the phone for somebody to talk to me about a < $50 mouse for 2 minutes) via email, and their website doesn't even list it as a product in most sections of their site, I'm not going to waste any more of my time on this.

  • Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 Mac/Win
    By A14WDJQNE68O0A on 2007-10-31
Excellent response -- very smooth. Battery cage well designed, and the on/off switch is easy to access/manipulate. I like the soft case that is provided - nice touch.

  • Handy little mouse.
    By A2MEDDSDQ5UIXC on 2007-11-09
This mouse is basically everything as described except for the battery life. My mouse died after about a month and a half of regular use. I must admit I forgot to turn it off at night half the time, but nobody's perfect. The plus to that is this mouse kept working without lag even up until it quit unlike some wireless mice I've used in the past where they start to lag before the eventually die. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase.

  • almost perfect - if it has a forward button
    By A1UBOTEG97P9ZD on 2007-12-29
I bought this after my other Microsoft Notebook mouse (wireless but not bluetooth) died. I have been wanting this bluetooth mouse ever since I bought the new Thinkpad T61 with bluetooth built-in, so it's actually good that the old mouse went belly up. This new mouse is similar to the old one in terms of size and feel. I have medium sized hands for a woman so it's reasonably comfortable. The package contains batteries as well as a carrying case. Microsoft thought of all the littl details, except that forward button. What's so hard about adding a forward button if the back button is provided? That's why I took away one star - actually I only want to take away half a star but there's no way to do that. Performance wise it's very good - perhaps a bit too sensitive but I am getting used to it. Once set up it connects almost instantly to my Thinkpad. So far no disconnections yet. Also I have used it on all kinds of surfaces including my thighs, bed linens/blankets and the palm rest of my thinkpad. Very happy with this purchase. How long will it last remains to be seen. My previous wireless mouse lasted for almost 2 yrs - while my very old wired Microsoft optical mouse lasts forever (still going and going...).

UPDATE: battery life sucks! I have been using this mouse for less than 1 month. Turned it off whenever I don't use it (only occasionally forgot to turn it off when walking away). 2 AAA batteries that came w/ the mouse were completely exhausted now. The red battery warning light did go on a couple of hours ahead of time. My old ms wireless mouse has one stick of AA battery that lasted many many months, so I am really disappointed. If I discover any more problems I would have to take off another star.

  • Very solid offering for MacBook owners
    By A2OT7L6CXZ4JQ3 on 2008-02-04
    Overall:
Most of the cons are not enough to outweigh the benefits of having an extra USB port and 4th button. It has handled more drops than I'd reasonably expect out of a laser product. Although not perfect, this is the best Bluetooth mouse I've used.

    Pros:
    * Portable size.
    * Low-battery warning.
    * On/Off button.
    * Automatic power-saving.
    * Simple battery installation.
    * Excellent battery life (I average 40+ hours of computer use a week and have changed alkaline batteries (2xAAA) every 1-2 months depending on whether or not I remember to turn it off when not in use).
    * Good grip on sides.
    * Excellent tracking and gliding on most surfaces.

    Cons:
    * People with large hands (me) will have to use "claw-style" gripping because of size.
    * Not truly ambidextrous because of 4th button position; a 5th button on opposite side would correct this claim and give even more functionality.
    * Automatic low-power mode drops connectivity and creates a few-second delay if you type for awhile and switch to mouse. If you use the setup I recommend below, using the right-button will reactivate it without interfering with your work.
    * No out-of-box 4th button functionality on macs.
    * Pairing is simple, but may be confusing to first-time mac BT users.
    * Scroll-wheel is loud.
    * On/Off button is kinda small for my big fingers, but manageable.
    * Scroll-wheel click can be a little too easy to activate when scrolling.

Note: I use USB Overdrive X to handle this mouse on a mac.
Recommended/used global settings (you can have application-specific profiles):
    Left: Click.
Right: Ctrl (allows right-click on chord, easy screen-zoom with wheel)
    Middle: MiddleClick.
Fourth: F9 (for Expose All Windows functionality).

  • Great mouse with fatal flaws
    By A22RFHWGYYLHX5 on 2008-04-09
The title of my review sounds oxymoronic, a great mouse with fatal flaws. But I really can't find another way to describe this mouse.

The good: this is a fantastic little mouse when it's working. That is, it's very precise, rarely if ever will lose the bluetooth connection, and it generally works.

The bad: If you own a Mac, get ready to not use your back button function, either Microsoft if playing a cruel joke on Mac users, or its incopentence in producing a working driver for a stinking little mouse knows no bounds. You must pay for a service like SteerMouse just so you can use the back button...a $20 premium I find incredibly hard to swallow when the mouse itself already cost me over $50.

Second and even more importantly, unless you like buying endless suplies of batteries, this mouse is not for you. I like how they included an on/off button, but let's be realistic here: in real world usage, people forget to turn it off in all sorts of circumstances; the fact it doesn't have an energy saving mechanism or automatic shut off like most other mice is just a deal breaker for me. My first batteries lasted 3 and a half weeks without ever turning the mouse off, once I realized there was no energy saver and turned it off whenever I could remember, the batteries actually lasted even less just 2 weeks.

I simply cannot deal with a mouse that needs changing batteries every 2 weeks. My previous non-bluetooth Microsoft notebook mouse had no on/off button and the batteries would last upwards of 4 months.

So here is the bottom line: if you own a Mac, the back button has no functionality (false advertising) and the batteries, even when you remember to shut it off to save some energy, routinely last between 2-4 weeks (false advertising). Otherwise, like I said when it's working, it's a great bluetooth mouse. For me though, I'd rather use up a USB slot and get all the advertised features and good battery life over the convenience of bluetooth and a headache.

    Your choice.

  • Great for Laptop use. Very portable.
    By A2DSB3556MW53N on 2008-01-05
I purchase this product as my first bluetooth mouse. I used it with several PC's and Macs, this device is easy to sync with any of the machines. Slight delay from power up to when the mouse becomes active for use. This is to be expected. Mouse will sleep to conserver power, but a simple shake will wake the mouse. On a macbook, you will see connection lost in the center of the screen. Simply shake and it comes back.
Battery life on this is not as good as my usb wireless Microsoft mouse. Last about 1 month of use for my constant daily use for web surfing and Gaming on my Alienware laptop. The use be wireless last about 3 months.
Over all I am very happy with this device. Good response and very portable. The protective pouch helps when you take it from place to place.

  • Worked well - for a little while
    By A27KIVAH2S2V0H on 2008-01-07
The mouse setup went well and it worked great for about a month. Then it suddenly quit working. Replacing the batteries didn't resolve the problem. To their credit, Amazon is replacing the mouse.

  • Broke three weeks later...
    By A1R54BQLJVV2TG on 2008-01-09
The mouse is ok. Every now and then had problem linking it with laptop after turning it off. About three weeks after first us, it feels like something broke and side of the mouse near to "back" button somehow start triggering the "back". The mouse became useless as whenever you touch it it it goes back.

  • Bob's Bluetooth Mouse Review
    By A3NCZT431QU6HT on 2008-02-02
I use this mouse with a desktop computer that sits next to my credenza. The wired mouse cord was always in the way and my wife is left handed. So, by adding a bluetooth dongle to the desktop, I was able to use the mouse and a few other connections. This mouse is small as it was designed for use on the road with a laptop but it still provides the "big" cousin's action and I don't mind the size change. My biggest concern of switching to a bluetooth mouse was that it wouldn't connect after the computer is in "sleep" mode but that fear has not materialized. I turn it on tap the space bar and by the time the screen is lit, the mouse has acquired and is ready to work. I've used wireless mouse devices with a laptop and they would "act" up at times refusing to connect so I'm real happy with this product. The form of the Microsoft notebook mouse is very similar to the USB wired Microsoft mouse.

  • Microsoft helps MAC with a great mouse
    By A38JHYC7ZMSZIP on 2008-09-05
I just got the Microsoft 5000 Bluetooth mouse for my MackBook Pro and am thrilled. It connected easily and quickly and works flawlessly. While the Apple Bluetooth Wireless Mighty Mouse has our beloved MAC style and vibe, the 5000 is just much more functional, much more ergonomic and if you aren't insistent on the MAC minimalistic design, it doesn't look all that bad.

I haven't tried programming the back button, but all else is great. Microsoft needs considerable help with Operating Systems, but they make a wonderful mouse.

  • No driver support ruins experience
    By A3DJJ4CKNUPX5K on 2007-11-19
I love the bluetooth connectivity - no USB dongle is the ONLY reason I bought this mouse.

However, the very tiny "BACK" button is not reassignable - because MS has not included support (nor do they mention the mouse) at all in their all-inclusive Intellimouse software.

I've tried setting it to about a dozen of the mouses, but none of them allow me to reassign the back button.

For this reason alone, I do not recommend this mouse.

  • Works beautifully!
    By A225NDBZZUQTVO on 2007-11-24
I bought this for my new 24" iMac because I like the feel of the Microsoft mice. Paired up to the iMac without a hitch and worked extremely well. Love it!

  • Greate bluetooth mouse
    By A2EFKEJYPMYWMU on 2008-01-11
I got this mouse based on Amazon reviews and I'm very happy that I did. The mouse is small, it connects every time I want to use my bluetoth enabled laptop, it takes a few seconds, but not a problem after that.

I usually prefer logitech, but the MS mouse had better reviews overall. No software to install in Vista and was installed in a snap.

  • Perfect for laptop with bluetooth
    By A350U72UMC078 on 2008-01-16
It took about 15 seconds for this mouse to pair up with my Thinkpad T61p. I did have to change the settings to make the movement less sensitive but other than that, no complaints. The scroll wheel has a nice feel to it and just the right resistence when turning, as well as the wheel button click. I was afraid that I would have to wait the same 15 seconds to pair when booting up the laptop but luckily it only took about 5. Just in case someone hasn't mentioned it, the bluetooth logo on the top does NOT light up. It would've added to the coolness factor. As everyone else, I like that you can turn the mouse off to conserve battery. The only concern I have is the battery cover. The flexible plastic piece you have to bend to take off the cover seems like it could break easily if you open the cover very often. I would just be careful with it. So far so good, just got it yesterday but if it lasts, I recommend buying this mouse. Just remember that this mouse does NOT include a USB dongle and meant for computers with built-in bluetooth. When it was first sold on Amazon a few months ago, they let it go for $34 + free shipping. What a steal! I should've bought it then.

  • Excellent Mouse
    By A2IDEOSYBCZ0HA on 2008-01-18
Microsoft has done it again. I already own the bluetooth presenter mouse which I carry around for power point presentations (also excellent!), so I needed a mouse to use at home with my desktop replacement notebook. It's perfect! It's comfortable, fast and the connection never breaks off. Truly an excellent bluetooth mouse. Highly recommended!

  • generally good, but has a soft scroll wheel
    By A6F416EWAUL0A on 2008-02-15
The scroll wheel button is very soft and as a result I get to click the middle button quite often while scrolling with the scroll wheel.
    Very annoying!

Everything else works fine with a Dell D620 laptop.

  • Scroll wheel is awful
    By A14AIZJGKKSTEN on 2008-02-18
I use a scroll wheel a lot. As others have mentioned, it's too easy to click the scroll wheel by accident while trying to scroll. The spring in the scroll wheel is way too light. This is annoying enough to be a deal-breaker for me.

  • The best soft-click feel, responsive and back button
    By A2F1KQK7TDU5HW on 2008-04-11
I own this mouse and Kensington bluetooth slimblade. (While Kensington is in its own class, it's a bit expensive for a second mouse at work.) I didn't expect too much from it because of poor reviews here, but surprisingly its soft-click feel is fantastic, and it reminds me of the original Microsoft mouse before they went by cheap models. Yes, scroller can be better, but back button works very well with my Macbook Pro and even look good together! Comfortable & responsive, I can't think of anything bad other than below average feel of scroller. This is one of the best, if not the best.

  • Solid BT mouse for notebooks
    By A5JLAU2ARJ0BO on 2008-04-16
I bought this to use with my Sony UX280P micro-PC running WinXP Pro and it works perfectly. It's a small mouse for road warriors who don't want to use a notebook or micro-PC's built-in touchpad or touchpoint. The price is right and I've had no trouble with this mouse.

  • Worked great, for awhile, but now doesn't even work as a paperweight
    By A3VAROHXBXV0I2 on 2008-05-29
This device paired with my laptop perfectly, right out of the box. It worked flawlessly until the day it needed its first battery change. After changing the batteries, it would not pair with my notebook. Google it yourself. This mouse often just stops working. Mine is only a few weeks old and it positively will not connect any longer with the notebook it paired with, without fault, until the first battery change.

Unfortunately, it's not heavy enough to function as a paperweight.

Online support for this mouse is practically non-existent. If it breaks, your only alternative is to throw it away. Hopefully, you'll have a backup mouse with you, when that happens.

I'm going to chalk up this purchase as a big mistake and will purchase a nice, reliable USB-connected mouse. In principle, though, that next purchase will not be a Microsoft mouse. They've already got way more of my money than they deserve.

  • Buy a Logitech mouse

I bought this mouse for another computer and didn't really start using it until I dropped my Logitech mouse down a flight of stairs and it stopped working. I love the design of the Microsoft mouse and was excited to start using it but am disappointed with it's performance.

At least once a day the mouse looses it's connection, sometimes while I'm using it, and I have to reconfigure the bluetooth connection for it. This never happened with the Logitech mouse. And I'm even running Windows XP! You'd think Microsoft would at least have product that worked with it's own operating system. This is a minor annoyance I could probably live with, but I hate the performance of the mouse as well. This mouse has problems with fine, small movements, and actually feels like an old-style ball mouse that needs to be cleaned. When trying to click small items like radio buttons, etc. it lags, skips and jumps, making it VERY annoying to use.

I've put up with this mouse for about a month now and am finally buying another Logitech. But the microsoft mouse is so crappy it motivated me to first write this review.
