  • A beautiful console

    By A1W09BD4YSDQMS on 2006-11-09
Compared to the original PS2, this version is a work of art. I don't think pictures really describe how great it looks and how small it is. It has already drawn many 'oohs' and 'aaahs' from my friends.

One thing I didn't expect was the inclusion of an IR port. I had the old remote control for the PS2 that required you plug that big IR receiver into the memory card port. I figured the old remote wouldn't work on the new machine but it does! And without any attachments at all.

The only reason not to get this system is perhaps if you need to use the hard drive add-on, although I think only one or two games (EverQuest is the only one I know of) actually use it.

  • Great replacement if your old PS2 burned out.

    By A1VJ6N5YWBDBWW on 2007-09-03
If you didn't read the exact dimensions of this product, when you receive it, the tiny size will amaze you. It's got all the goodies the old PS2 has + a built in network adapter. So it's online ready soon as you get it. Although the PS3 can play PS2 games, but it's better to save that expensive PS3 for Blue-Rays and PS3 games rather than burning it up on PS2 games. One scratched up rented game will kill you PS, that is how my old PS2 died.

The only thing missing in this package is a wireless controller. The machine looks beautiful on your stereo rack, but with short controller wires coming out, you have to put it in between TV and you. Sony is already making wireless standard on PS3, why not put it to use here as well. Rather pay an extra $10 for the package and have the wireless controller included.

  • Party like it's 1999..

    By A19EKT8H85AKO5 on 2006-11-14
I am a VERY old-school gamer and the last brand new home console system that I purchased was the Sega Dreamcast in 1999. I lost interest in the gaming scene after the Dreamcast died out. Reason being I didn't care much for 3-D polygonal games. I was bred on 2-D sprite based graphics. My very first system was the 2600 my parents got me in the early 80's. I've had almost every system ever since (between early 80's and 1999, I've had the Sega Master System, Turbo Graphix 16, Commodore 64, Super Nintendo, 3DO, Neo Geo, Sega Saturn, Sega Genesis, PS 1, etc..).

When the original PS 2 came out, I was skeptical. I knew that the eventual games being released at the time would not be of any interest to me. As it turned out, I was right. All the similar polygon-based games catering to the teenage male crowd was extremely boring to me.

However, around the middle part of the new millenium, I began noticing a nice amount of retro arcade collections for the PS 2. One example being the Capcom Classics collection. A large gathering of over 20 Arcade games for around 20 bucks. Remember, I came from a time when you paid 50 dollars for an inferior reproduction of 1 arcade game for a home console.

I also caught wind of a new redesinged PS 2 that wasn't all that larger than it's own controller. When I actually saw it, I was pretty impressed with the compact shape and looks of the new system. I still held out though. Not enough compilations to warrant the purchase of a new system.

But, several factors finally changed my mind. Additional compilations were being released, the one from Taito really caught my interest. There were even home console collections being released; I am talking about ones with a wide selection of games for a nominal price. Sony also dropped the price of the system. And finally, the release of this Silver colored system. I was sold.

I've had this system for about 4 days. First of all, looks really pretty. Love the silver color. The size is very compact. Very nice for my space challenged apartment. Of course, the system works with all my old PS 1 games along with the PS 1 memory cards. Load time for my PS 1 games is a lot faster. The controller feels nice and durable.

I've been enjoying games such as Ghost & Goblins, Super-Off Road, and Gladiator for the last several days. I am glad that I decided to purchase this new PS 2 system. Compact size, affordable price, and overall hugh selection of games. Whether you are into retro gaming or not, it is hard to go wrong with this system.

UPDATE- Just to clear up a potential confusion, despite what Amazon listed on their page for this PS 2 system, I did buy this from Amazon and the Sony Playstation 2 that arrived at my doorsteps is the North American NTSC format; NOT the European PAL version. So yes, this system plays all U.S. PS 2 games. Otherwise its been just over a week since I've had this system and I cannot wait to order Capcom Classics vol 2, Sega Genesis collection, and the Metal Slug Anthology. Keep the classics coming!

UPDATE(2)- I've had this system for about 2 years now and although the release of retro-collections are slowing down, I've had a blast with every collection that was released. SNK seems to be the last company to pump out a compilation here and there; I'll enjoy it while it last.

  • Great At First...

    By A1R8HNWFSDYI9Q on 2007-09-23
At first, like most, i thought this was the most wonderful thing since sliced bread. Then after VERY minimal use, and under 6 months time, i got that wonderful "DISC READ ERROR." After reading a ton on the forums, calling sony, talking to other places that sell them, this is very common for this console. Sony wants $45 (plus s/h) to mail your console in to repair it. It's so stupid that this console didn't hold up to very minimal use and sat around for under a half a year and is broken. i am saving up for the ps3 now because this stupid thing isn't worth the money to fix it when i could buy a new one today for $129.99. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH SONY!!! I want my chunky style back!!! It never had any problems and was under warranty from sony.

  • FACT OR FICTION?????

    By A3SCOMFF77SKCC on 2006-11-17
At the time I am writing this, I am waiting to recieve it in the mail. That being side, I may have to just send it back as soon as I get it. Why? because of the confusing description that is on this webpage. When I oredered mine the review about what being ONLY PAL COMPATIBLE means was not here after reading that, and calling around to other game stores I now know that it means this playstation will only play European games/and or it will only work with a tv that works in Europe. NOW, the question is, is this just a typo by AMAZON? WHY would they be selling a PS2 on their U.S. site that only will work in EUROPE. Is it fact or fiction? That my friends, is what I am waiting to find out when this package comes to my door. It is a real shame that Amazon would sell this if it is only workable with products made for Europe. And even a bigger shame if they just made a mistake in the description and have not taken the time to correct it. There are a few reviews that state how satisfied they are with the product and how it works with their games but did they buy this one from amazon or some place else? I will write back when I get this just to let others know if mine worked or not. If anyone has brought this system please leave a review that states you brought this silver version from amazon and how it works for you. Thanks.

Ok,I just got my silver playstation 2 in the mail today. This is a NTSC SYSTEM it plays american games. So my star rating goes way up!

  • A Joy to Behold
    By A2NZD7PA8588W0 on 2006-11-19
On the eve of PS3's release, I purchased this stunning beauty. Tiny and powerful, I am amazed by the fast and free-flowing graphics. It takes up almost no room, was easy to set up, and the controler is comfortable in the hand. Buttons are intuitive, making for ease of use if you're coming from a different console or pc games.
Two thumbs way up from a hard core gamer.

  • skip the PS2
    By A2582KMXLK2P06 on 2006-11-16
I know, I must be REALLY crazy to give the Playstation 2 an overall rating of 2 stars. Hear me out:

First of all, I must be the only one who happens to think it's a total scam that the DVD player built inside the Playstation 2 was never re-created to work properly. It's really a bad business move on the part of Sony to never listen to ALL the phone call and email complaints that were directed to them about the DVD players inability to work correctly for most people. The honest truth is that the thing NEVER worked right. Sony probably didn't fix it deliberately because the Playstation 2 was selling so well (and continues to sell) they probably figured they didn't need to bother. Furthermore, the DVD player was probably added on in an attempt to make the PS2 smear the competition (which admittedly, was a strategy that WORKED, because the Gamecube has been knocked out and the Xbox never became as popular as the PS2).

Even if you ignore all the negative opinions on the DVD player, you can't ignore the fact that the console itself had other problems. Many times the Playstation 2 would overheat and that would cause the games to stop working momentarily. This becomes a problem the longer you play a game because the PS2 was never designed to run for long periods at a time. So what this means is that it's not right for you, the consumer, to have to purchase a Playstation 2 for more than 100 bucks, in my opinion. That's just an unbelievably high price for a gaming console that may or may not work correctly and also includes a shaky DVD player. If you buy a Playstation 2, you won't know what to expect.

I think the biggest problem I have with the Playstation 2 is probably not really Sony's fault, however, it's SOMEBODY'S fault. I'm talking about the absense of innovation. When the PS2 came out, there really wasn't much left in terms of groundbreaking new features in the world of gaming. All those extraordinary innovations ALREADY happened on the Playstation One. Really, the only thing the Playstation 2 had going for it was "more hours of gaming" and "better graphics" over the PS1.

Remember all those Playstation One games that were so revolutionary? Silent Hill, Final Fantasy 7, Resident Evil 2, Metal Gear Solid. Those are the main ones. Those games appeared on the PS1 in all their influential glory, which means when the sequels to those games were released for the PS2, really, all we had were updated graphics and longer gameplay. You see, compared to the Playstation One, the PS2 had better graphics and the games took a LOT longer to complete, which, granted, is a GOOD thing. However, updated graphics are hardly a revolutionary thing by todays standards. In fact, I'm convinced talking about good graphics in the year 2006 is pretty pointless. You want to talk about innovation? How about the jump from 2D to 3D? This happened on the Playstation One, not Playstation 2. Now THAT is what I call "a revolutionary step forward in gaming".

Speaking of 2D games, want to know another reason why the Playstation One was better? Because it featured a perfect blend of 2D AND 3D games. The PS1 wasn't created for the sole purpose of dazzling gamers with amazing graphics. No, the PS1 was created for showing gamers how to have FUN with a game, in addition to the realistic revolutionary step forward into the land of 3D gaming. The Playstation 2 was, unfortunately, just "a seemingly neverending stream of boring 3D gaming".

You see, as someone who grew up as a teenager with the Playstation One, I can remember clearly how people approached gaming back then. We didn't go into each game with the mindset that each game had to have "incredible graphics", we went into each game just expecting to have fun. That's how we judged video games back then. When a game with incredible graphics came along, such as Resident Evil 2 and Final Fantasy 7, we treated them with open arms just like we did with other games.

Yes, it's true that back in the PS One days we put the games with exceptional graphics on a different level from the other games, but we did NOT criticize the graphically-average games JUST because graphically-superior games were available at the time. We treated games with good graphics and below-average graphics equally *as long as* the average or bad-looking games offered enjoyable replay value. And guess what? Most of the time they did. That's how you appreciate a video game.

Today, with the Playstation 2, people are so concerned with only great graphics that many times the gameplay suffers as a result. This means that yes, the Playstation 2 smears the Playstation One in terms of graphical power, but when it comes to actually having fun with a game (along with the previously mentioned all-important innovation aspect of gaming) the Playstation One absolutely DESTROYS the PS2. So overall, the Playstation One was not only more fun, but also more important. The Playstation 2 ruined the mindset of gamers that "every single game" had to look good, and for that, I will forever look down on the Playstation 2. The WWE wrestling series is now worthless, for example. However, I'm not angry with Sony directly, because the PS1 was *phenomenal*.

Here's the worst thing about judging graphics- in a few years, everyone will change their minds and look down on the Playstation 2 for having horrible-looking, dated graphics. Yes, it will be the same people who once praised the graphics, too. I guess that's the price you pay for judging the way a game looks and *nothing* else about the game. You watch, in a few years the games people consider "cool" today will have no purpose to exist, according to them.

As for longer gameplay experience, that's overrated too. Why? Because it's entirely possible that a 20-minute game can be JUST as good as a 20-hour game. I STRONGLY disagree with the people who think there's no excuse for short games to exist these days. No. A game shouldn't have to take a long time to complete. The longer the game, the more boring it'll inevitably be, and the less likely you'll care about it years from now because you'll remember how much work went into actually completing it.

Another Playstation 2 complaint- I don't like the fact that the analog stick replaced the directional pad. Using an analog stick is annoying because you don't feel comfortable with it. Ask any older gamer- they will tell you that you felt more in control of your movements with a directional pad. With an analog stick, you slide all over the place. In addition to that disaster, the PS2 controller also suffers from "too many buttons". We shouldn't have to have a degree in rocket science to figure out how to successfully figure out and complete a game. The Playstation One had the best controller ever. It was comfortable, you were always in complete control, and it just looked better.

Now, with that out of the way, let's talk about the only worthwhile thing the Playstation 2 has going for it- a few good games worth purchasing. Grand Theft Auto is probably the biggest series on the PS2, and guess what? It's good. It's great, in fact. It's innovative too, the only important thing the PS2 ever had. Unfortunately, with games like Saints Row on the market, the uniqueness of Grand Theft Auto is starting to wear thin because of all the unnecessary copycats.

Anyway, besides that game, what you can expect to find if you own a PS2 are many (and I mean MANY) mission-objective army games, World War II games, and maybe a few lackluster platformers here and there. Oh, and we can't forget about all those boring racing titles that are designed to appeal to graphic freaks and not to people who actually like to race. The Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid series were also pretty decent, but, in the case of Silent Hill, improved graphics don't necessarily mean spookier, more interesting gameplay. The original will always be the best.

If you like shooting guns and racing cars, hey, the PS2 is your new best friend. But if you want something more, seek a Playstation One. The Playstation 2 is just a long list of mediocrity. Thanks for ruining the fun.

  • great for a 75 year old man

Very good game playing machine. I play Madden Pro Football on it. I am 75.

  • Great Gaming unit, now very affordable for those who want to upgrade!!!
    By A1435P5AMCPB3X on 2006-12-22
Hey, this is a snazzy silver color, which may match your interior more. Otherwise, this is still the great system that playstation two has always been. This may not be the latest technology, but the DVD/Gaming unit is still very much a excellent unit to own. First off, the price today is very affordable, the game selection is excellent (new and used), and the controlers and such are very similar to PS I, so not much transition to start to play this. I prefer this unit over X-Box original, even though X box does have a slight edge on graphics. Very solid unit, and one to buy if you want to have great graphics without the price shock of the PS3 and X-box 360.

  • the newer and better
    By on 2006-11-14
This compared to the old ps2 is a wonder machine. Of course after a while it has the disc read error but on this ps2 version it fixs its self by doing nothing a all. There are really no other problems with it it show a huge improvement to past playstations. Finally all i want to say is this game is a great choice to buy compared to the older version.

  • Great console for the price
    By A1T3SZS6S2E8Z0 on 2006-11-27
The great thing about this game console is its compact design and its low cost, not to mention the huge selection of games. It plays games and dvds, and for either one its quite tiny. Certainly smaller than any dvd player I own. Great system that can provide countless hours of fun, the only slight thing is that you may have to buy a ps2 dualshock2 controller for two people to play, as some game titles are not compatible with the old ps1 controller. I think it has to do with the pressure sensitivity given with the ps2 controller.

  • Gaming - DVDs - CDs - Great fun Great Value!!!
    By A5ZS85C5V40S8 on 2006-12-15
I have had this slim version for a while. They are great, black or silver versions are cool. Did you know that Pelikan makes a 7" screen to attach? It takes 1 min. Ok now you can play and save all Playstation 1 & 2 games, watch DVD's with component out and digital sound out with your Home Theather System, play music cd's and you can use it in your car or on the go with this extra screen...... It doesnt get much better then that in value. You will need a power cable for you car. Very smart design- Highly recommended.

My kids wanted a Wii this Christmas, but being the single mother of three makes it hard to splurge on the latest thing. I know PS2 has been out for some time now, but after seeing the huge selection of Anime games you can play on it, I was sold. And for $129, it can't be beat.

  • Playstation 2... money well spent
    By A1CVV1KWZXA94P on 2008-09-11
Well today I was just curiously reading through the ps2's low review ratings and I read a couple of things that i found interesting. for starters i'll tell you about my experiences with ps2s. I bought my first ps2 from an EB games in june of 2001 when i was 13 so it was about 8 months after the north american release on the system. And to this day, I've never had any real issues with my ps2 it still plays games and dvds well to this day. the only problem i ever had with it was it wouldnt play the older blue back discs but this was due to a lens focus problem. which is an easy fix if youre comfortable with taking your ps2 apart. also there were complaints with the durability and longevity of the ps2 and my comment on that is my ps2 has been dropped, pulled off my tv stand, sat in the trunk of my car in the middle of winter, got all wet while i was carrying from my car to my house in the rain, has been on for days at a time in the middle of august on the hottest of days and never overheated and worst of wall i had it in a bookbag and dropped it down the the last the steps of the stairs in my house... and theyre hardwood not carpeted steps. so all in all my ps2 has seen some serious abuse and still entertains me to this day 7 years later. sorry i never mentioned it but the ps2 i just talked about was the large original ps2.

Now for what i think of the slim ps2. my sister got a slimline for her birhtday last july. and she has yet to ever any of the problems people have talked about in their reviews. she plays it daily and it works like a finely tuned machine. and as for durability with the slimline hers sits on a stand by her tv and its never been dropped or anything as far as i know and she leaves it on all the time and shes yet to ever experience any over heating issues. its never brought up the disc read error screen and plays most games... but the reason behind that is sony has updated the slimline over time with new hardware and lens that there are some compatibility issues with playstation 1 and playstation 2 games but sony has the games that that dont work posted on the playstation website.

Well i dont have much more for today... i hope this helps you feel a little more comfortable about buying a ps2... its a really great system and i highly reccomend this system to anyone looking for some good entertainment with a huge library of games availible that comes at a very reasonable price considering the ps3 is going for $400 where as the ps2 is only $129.99.

  • Playstation 2
    By AL5E46XZIVEY2 on 2007-01-12
Our older model broke the day after christmas - we quickly purchased this one . I was surprised at how thin it was compared to the one we had. It looks great and appears to be holding up well.

  • Fun with Slim Silver PS2!
    By A2E04N9CX68VCR on 2007-02-22
This system brings back a lot of memories. Plus a virtually limitless library of PS1 and PS2 games. The next gen systems are too fragile and prone to overheating, dying etc. Do yourself a favor, stick with PS2, XBOX or Wii ( I don't consider Wii next gen ) and leave the PS3 and 360 for when they get their act together.

  • great!
    By A2R7KAQKWDWMVT on 2007-09-21
simply great, no more comments, this video game console is simply fantastic a classic of the video game world

  • Very Happy
    By A37886XS4K5LWC on 2007-09-28
There has been a PS2 in my house since I can remember; the big bulky one that first came out. Well, when my sister moved out, she took it with her and while I would have loved to sprung and gotten a Playstation 3, it just wasn't in the budget. I grabbed up this one for the low price, and the cool silver color. The fact that it comes with the network card already in it, as well as the sensor for the remote, really is nice. The system runs MUCH quieter, and while I usually don't prefer the pop-open style cd area, I know that there were problems with the motors going out on the old PS2s. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase - yay for still being able to play my Final Fantasies and Guitar Hero!

  • Sony PS2 would need a price cut but still a great system to own and collect for anyway!
    By A16B8CNP85VQIY on 2008-01-07
I'm in the middle of researching which video game system to buy, for me but for the benefit of the whole family as well. Here, I want to share my information for everyone, who is in this process as well.

The choices are the very sucessfull Xbox360, PS3 or the old PS2 platform.

Whenever people recommend to go for the PS2 when you are on a budget ("it's so much cheaper than Xbox360 or PS3), think twice.

PS2: $129 get you the bare system including a wired controller. For many, if not for most games, though, you will need a memory card to save game progress. If you want to play online, the PS2 saves the network settings on a memory card as well. The cheapest option "new" is an 8 MB card for around $20-25 here on Amazon. This makes the intial investment a $150. The games weigh in between $20 and $40 new. Still a lot of popular franchises see new releases with 2008 not being an exception. But expect less new games from 2009 on. Sony's official plan is to support the PS2 platform around 2010 before fading out. Still, with more than 1500 games to choose from (if you can find many of the earlier releases used and in working order somewhere (scratches!)) a great little system, but I would love to see a price cut to $109 or $99 by now (January 2008) or repack the current system with a wireless or 2nd controller. By the way, Sony is likely to ship a new PS2 with built-in A/C adapter, as the did in Japan. Disadvantage: If that adapter dies one day, it's hard to repair the console. Better to get one of the actual designs with external (replacable) adapter.

Xbox360: $279 for the Arcade bundle. Remember that I told you, your intial investment on the PS2 will be $150 because you will need a memory card to play games!?

So, for $130 more you not only get a Xbox360 (which surpasses the PS2 in terms of graphics and online play capabilities), but it includes a 256 MB memory card (to save game progress, network settings), a wireless controller (remember, with the PS2 you get a wired controller) and you get like 5 arcade games to play straight out of the box. If you add the cost of a wirless controller to the PS2 (another $30) plus a collection of Arcade games comparable to the Microsoft offer (another $20 easily), we are talking only $80 difference in hardware investments.

Of course, to benefit from all online features Xbox live marketplace has to offer (game downloads, demos, updates/patches for games and more) you want to get a harddisk later, another $50 if you buy a used one on ebay or $100 if new.

You could immediately buy the Xbox Pro bundle for $349 which includes a hard disk and might be the better deal moneywise, and then the PS3 starts at only $50 more. For $399 you get a gaming console and a Blu-ray player in one. Xbox won't play HD-DVD without additional hardware and bluray not at all.

Gameswise you have more choices on the Xbox360 compared to PS3 but Sony is famous for supporting their platforms much longer than Microsoft, so at this moment it is unclear when Microsoft will drop the 360 for a sucessor, but expect Sony to stand behind another 5 years at least (Remember, the're still selling the PS2 and plan on doing so the next 2-3 years extending the lifespan of that platform (new games) to 10 years. Thisn could mean, we will see a lot of great games on the PS3 in the future. But if you want to play now, the Xbox 360 is definitive the better choice softwarewise.

In the end my point is to tell you, that your investment in hardware & software to play something on the PS2 platform will be at least $170 (1 console, 1 memory card, 1 game) depending on the game you choose whereas the Xbox360 Arcade bundle comes for $279 with everything needed to play the included games (5 aracade games) plus it will play any DVD-based game you buy but it won't let you download much because you are missing a hard disk and the 256MB memory card included doesn't offer too much space than for your savegame.

So, that's $110 difference, but Xbox 360 is the best to get for gaming right now, if you like the kind of genres it supports.

If I do the math with the infamous Wii, you get one for $249 ready to play, a mere $80 more.

I might end up buying a PS2 for the moment, because I don't like many of the games the Wii offers and I want to see if the failure rates of the new Xbox 360 mother boards have become better (hardwarewise, 360 gave a lot headaches to owners because of high failure rates. MS is very eager to give great service along with a 3 years warranty against complete failure, but still you have to ship it in and wait for it's return).

But definately, with this math in mind, for my taste it only could help to reduce the PS2 a little in price or bundle it with a wireless or additional controller and a game. Untill then, it's not a no-brainer to buy anymore!

  • nice

I got a brand new playstation 2 and this veirson is good its smaller but better the top you can pop up.

  • Sleak Silver color, still the great gaming system, now affordable.
    By A38QEATH3NODFM on 2006-12-22
Now that PS3 is out, PS2 has become more affordable than ever. I have a PS1, and this system allows me to play all of those games. It also works as a DVD player as well, so I can keep it in my gameroom as the sole DVD player as well. The system does run warm, but not much warmer than any of my other DVD players. And Many new PS2 games are still coming out, so this system is not dead yet. Sony has a winner in the PS2, and if PS3 is half as good as PS2, it will be the monster of gaming systems for a long time coming.

  • Great fun
    By ASHDCMS1GK1DG on 2007-10-07
My son loves the PS2. The slim design cuts down on wasted space plus all his original playstation games will play with this model. Amazon had the best price plus I love being able to track the status of my order on the website and appreciate the follow-up emails keeping me aware of the status. Thanks Amazon as always for making ordering on the internet a effortless experience.

This is the first Playstation 2 console I have bought. I bought it a week ago. The silver color and slim/mini design looks awesome - better than they look in the stock photos. It seems hard to find a second silver controller to match the set at this point though, no one in North America seems to have silver controllers in stock.

Anyway, the console itself ran games from the PS1 and PS2 with the black CD surface, blue CD surface, and clear CD surface. I heard that older PS2 consoles have problems reading some surfaces. Mine had no trouble at all reading them all.

I'm very pleased with my purchase and recommend it to anyone.

  • I LIKE TO BUY YOUR PS2 FOR MY SON...

    Hello,

    How you doing today???

  • Silver Slimline PS2 is perfect for every gamer!

I basically bought the slim ps2 in order to be able to play guitar hero, and ended up falling in love with the system. I was originally an xbox fan all the way, but the small size of the ps2 (a little bigger than a game/dvd case) makes it easy to bring the system anywhere in a small bag or backpack. The silver color is a change from a world of mainly black consoles, and lots of people have commented on mine. In addition, the built in network adaptor is GREAT for free online play. I love bringing my ps2 to relatives or friends houses and simply plugging it into their router allows me and friends to have hours of gaming.

Whether you like action, adventure, puzzle, shooters, mmorpg's, sports, or even just watching movies (the slim ps2 makes a great dvd player with a remote), the ps2 has something for everyone, and with a new color and tiny size, its hard to pass up this time around!

I will keep it short and sweet. I bought an Xbox 360 Elite about a month ago. Aweesome graphics, tons of storage, online gaming. But it is sitting next to my TV collecting dust. I rarely use it. I bought a PS2 as a reccomendation from a friend. MAN! this thing rocks! First off, the thing is absolutely TINY. About the size of a large paper back book. 2nd, TONS of games! I bought Capcom Classics for $30, which came with about a dozen or so classic arcade games that I grew up with, most notibly for me SFII and all the assorted editions up to SFII Hyper Fighting. 3rd is the games are cheap, and the system is cheap! $129 for a game system with tons of titles, many in the $10 to $20 range. I got GTA III, GTAVC, And GTASA for $30. When they first came out, they easily would have cost me $180 plus tax.

The PS2 takes me back to when games focused on being FUN! Not worring about how many pixels were being pushed on the screen and how fast. The PS2 is the best system out there right now hands down. I was considering purchasing a PS3, and I still might get one, but just for the Blu-Ray drive. I don't think I would play any of the PS3 games, the PS2 games are cheaper and more entertaining than fancy graphics.

The ONLY negative I have with the PS2 is the egronomics of the controller. The Xbox and 360 controllers are more comfortable at least for me. I do not like the analog sticks at the bottom, they are not stiff enough for me, and the travel is too far. I am currently looking for aftermarket controllers. The square, X, circle, and triangle can be confusing at first for those fo you used to the regular abxy.

Works great, very compact, and takes me away from reality. Better than smoking crack.

  • A Gaming Heavyweight....Slimmed Down
    By AJQF2XYYECS93 on 2006-12-27
The PS2 is one of the most popular game systems in history. This version is the same as the slimmed down black version in every way except the color. It's amazingly small and I just love how it looks! The Silver is supposed to be a "Limited Edition" according to Sony. Exactly how many consoles were produced to make it "limited" I have no idea, but if you're thinking about picking up the Silver, don't wait too long!!!

  • American model
    By ACJR5LQ67NGYP on 2007-01-11
I was worried at fisrt because I read some reviews that stated this might not be the american verion, well it is. I went through a lot of worry until it got here. Let me ease your mind it works great and my son loves it. He likes it for one because of the color, none of his friends has one like this and it is small and takes up less room. I have had no problems with it.
