  • Best Electric Toothbrush So Far

    By AKS63YLLYU1K5 on 2008-01-10
I used an electric toothbrush before this, and so I assumed that the transition would be easy. Surprise! I at first found that the Triumph was shockingly rough! For the first week I had to use it on the gentle setting, but after a week I got used to it and switched to the normal setting. I found that that the monitor is useful to time the session and I think that it is worth the extra money.

    For what it is worth:
Normally when I visit the dentists office, the technician spends considerable time scraping off the plaque from my teeth. I went 2 weeks ago, and there wasn't any plaque for her to remove. None. Additionally, I have rather poor flossing habits, and the technician usually causes my gums to bleed. This time she commented on how healthy my gums were - even between my teeth (I did not admit that I had not flossed in a month). Note: I am not advocating that you don't floss, just admitting that I don't.

  • Awesome!

    By A11R1QVDV529H2 on 2007-11-04
What an awesome toothbrush! Not only do my teeth feel so much cleaner, my gums are looking much healthier and my teeth have brightened a bit -- all in a month's time!!

My dentist suggested I purchase an Oral B toothbrush (he suggested a specific model, which was cheaper) because I have a bad tendency to overbrush and brush too hard causing my gums to be brushed away. This toothbrush is definitely saving my mouth. The 2 minute timer always seems to end before I'm done brushing -- can you tell I really like this toothbrush? It's just finally nice to have something that works as well as this does that also warns if and when you're bearing down on your teeth too much along with the different brush heads and it intuitively knowing how to work with each of those.

I use the flossing brush head and the polishing head. Love them both.

  • "Dentist Clean" Between Visits

    By A3LDQM3GCURG92 on 2007-11-28
This is my first electric toothbrush. I have braces and I thought an electric brush would be useful. My teeth really do feel "dentist clean!" Because of my braces, I can't use the brush heads that came with the brush, but I will review the overall brush.

I chose the Triumph because of the smart timer. It counts down the minutes and provides a visual guide for the quadrants in your mouth. The display is easy to read. Before this toothbrush, I don't think I was brushing long enough. Additionally, the brush itself "buzzes" every 30 seconds, so you know to switch quadrants. This means that when traveling, you can ensure you're brushing the proper amount of time.

I think the multiple brushing modes are useful. I've used the clean and sensitive modes. Additionally, I chose Oral-B because of the large number of brush heads. It is comfortable to hold and easy to use. I've had no problems with it. I recommend it.

  • Great Toothbrush

    By A1WPW8JPIEIXWY on 2007-10-28
I have to admit that I was nervous to spend this kind of cash on a toothbrush, but I figured that it was cheaper to buy this than pay to fill cavities or have a root canal.

The smartguide screen lets you know exactly how long you've been brushing. and even has a neat little light that goes on if you brush too hard. That was great for me, since I had a habit of brushing way too hard and my dentist told me that my gums were already beginning to recede from it.

I've never had an electric toothbrush, and you have to get used to the feeling. But now, after several days of using it, it's hard to imagine going back to a manual toothbrush!

Bottom line: Expensive but worth it.

  • Good, but not Great !

    By A21F0YVYM7PI72 on 2007-12-01
I already owned the Oral B Excel Toothbrush, but when the Oral B Triumph was introduced, it was advertised as having a flossing action, I thought I must have it. Yes, it is a good electric toothbrush, and the Smart Guide is a useful gadget, but as for helping floss my teeth, it falls short of the mark. I guess there is no substitute for dental floss.

  • Great Brush - Useless SmartGuide
    By A1JDNPXEZK6D2B on 2008-03-25
This is my first powered toothbrush so I thought I should get a top-of-the-line product with features that would help me use it correctly.

Toothbrush - First of all, the toothbrush is excellent. It was intimidating at first because the powered brushing felt more aggressive than manual brushing. I liked being able to use the softer, slower setting for a while until I felt comfortable moving up to the normal speed. I really feel like I'm getting a thorough cleaning with this toothbrush vs. manual brushing. I could immediately feel the difference even after the first use and over time my teeth are whiter and my gums are healthier. I used to have a problem with my gums bleeding when I brushed or flossed them. Now, after having used this toothbrush for several weeks the bleeding from brushing and flossing has stopped completely.

SmartGuide - This is the only letdown of the product and almost not worth the extra $40-$50 over getting the toothbrush by itself. At first, I liked that the SmartGuide would let me know when I'm pressing too hard. However, after the first brushing I learned how much pressure is enough to apply and this feature is now useless as I don't press too hard anymore. The indicator that shows which mode/speed you are on is useless after you've used it a couple times and it's clear by the motion/noise of the toothbrush head which mode/speed you are on. The mouth quadrant feature has been totally useless from the very beginning. I assumed this would keep track of where you started last time and switch it up to make sure you start at a different spot each time. Nope, it always starts at the uppper-right and works clockwise. I'm no expert toothbrusher, but I feel like I should start in a different place each time. The ONLY benefit, for me, of having the SmartGuide is the built in timer & clock. The SmartGuide timer is nice because you can have the SmartGuide out in front of you and watch the timer. I like being able to watch the timer so I can anticipate the quadrant changes and make sure I give the front and back sides of teeth at least 10-15sec each. When the SmartGuide isn't in use, it becomes a digital clock. It's hard justifying the extra $40-$50 it cost to get this SmartGuide added to the toothbrush you can get by itself for less. Lacking useful features, but having the useful timer & clock feels like it should only be worth an additional $15-$20.

Overall, this model is nice for a first time user and to get acquainted with a powered toothbrush, but I'll cut costs next time and just get the brush by itself with a cheap cooking/egg timer. The SmartGuide is overrated and I wish it had more to offer.

  • It died after a year and I like the Sonicare better
    By A2MERRUK87KP8M on 2008-08-10
I bought this about a year ago from my dentist to replace my sonicare (which I lost traveling). Since my periodontist sells this one, and this one only, I bought it instead of a sonicare thinking it must be better. I have really bad gums and have had several surgeries so have to ensure that I keep my gums in tip top shape between cleanings every three months. After a year the OralB Triumph totally died, hence the 2 stars. Since there is not a service center near me I don't want to have to deal with shipping it for repair, etc. I will buy the sonicare again because in addition to it lasting for years, I like it much better. The Oral B triumph is too rough and hard to get in between teeth, which is where I have most of my trouble. The sonicare seems to get in there better, feels massaging, and doesn't feel like it beats up my gums so much like this one did. I'm sure this one is better at cleaning teeth, but I have nearly perfect teeth so it's the gums I need to worry about. The staff at my dentist is divided as well about which is better so it's probably a matter of personal preference, but I expect something this pricey to last more than a year, hence the low rating overall.

  • Better than Sonicare...
    By A40MG64AQ4G88 on 2008-02-09
Just got back from the dentist after not going for a year (i know, very bad). I started using this toothbrush about a month or two ago. The hygeinist couldn't stop saying, "beautiful teeth, just beautiful." I don't floss, and of course I don't condone my actions, but this toothbrush got rid of any and all plaque that might have been in my mouth. I used to use a Sonicare which I think is also a good toothbrush. But my problem is that I brush too hard and therefore have gum recession. With the sonicare, I didn't feel like it did a good enough job on its own and I was still pushing too hard with it to clean my mouth. If you do that with this toothbrush, say goodbye to your gums. You just have to barely apply it to your teeth and it does all the work an electric toothbrush should. I will never go back to Sonicare.

    Negatives:
-I think the indicator that you're brushing too hard is kinda silly. If i actually brushed even close to hard enough that it would activate the sensor, all my teeth would've fallen out by now.
    -The price is steep.
-I wish the floss action brush came in a SOFT variety.

  • I have a dentist at home now!
    By AFGLVHRTNMKD5 on 2008-02-06
I was worried that I was buying into hype but this is the real deal. I have a Sonicare that I have been using for a couple of years. My dentist has noticed a decline in my oral hygene. I knew I better do something different.

I made the decision to drop the big bucks on this product with the reasoning that the price tag will be worth it if my teeth stay where they currently are.

I can't beleive how clean my teeth are after the first use. It got everything near the gumline and between the teeth. You can really feel the rubber "flossers" getting into everywhere.

The Smart Guide remote sensor is nice but not that big a deal so far. My dentist was afraid I was brushing too hard. This is another reason why I chose this model. It will tell you if you are pressing too hard. The timer is nice also. I don't really need it but I think in the future it will keep me more consistant and I do use it. If you brush for 2 minutes, you get a smiley face. If you brush for 3 minutes, you get a surprise. There was nothing to do to set up the remote device, instant.

There are a lot of other features on the unit that they don't really detail until you read the instructions. This is a good thing and it is always nice to have options.

I HATE accessories!!! This one has plenty of them BUT you DON'T have to use them. It is all MODULAR. You only use the pieces you want. The plug and inductive charger are tiny and that is all I use. The base, cases and other parts will forever sit in the box. If you travel with it, the size and weight of the charger are excellent! You see in the photo a large base that the brush sits in. There is a small "ring" on the right side of the photo, that is the charger. You can insert into the large base if you want or just use the small portion.

I haven't tried the polishing head but I will eventually.

My wife said my teeth looked cleaner than they previously had, woo hoo! I just ordered one for her today!!

  • Horrible Battery; Good Toothbrush
    By A3C5NU6LVDU020 on 2008-09-12
This toothbrush is great, when it works.

I purchased mine from Amazon and followed the "first time use" instructions (charge it completely). Immediately the next day I noticed that the battery life was low, even though I had it on its stand all day (this is recommended by Oral B). I thought about returning it, but I decided that maybe it wasn't in its stand correctly.

Well, it's been a couple months now and things haven't improved. Sometimes I will pick up the brush when it has full battery power and then it will die while I am brushing. I'm going to have to send it in for service eventually, but I do not want to because of the other review on here that says they are still waiting for their replacement!

According to the booklet, you void the warranty if you open the bottom of the toothbrush to pull out the battery. I'm tempted to do that, since it looks like there is simply an NiMH AA battery inside. But, I will probably send it in.

The LCD display is pretty cool. The 2 minute timer isn't necessary, since it will vibrate after every 30 seconds, signifying that you are either done, or you should switch quadrants of the mouth. The brush warning isn't necessary either--you have to press really hard to activate the warning light. Ironically, I like the LCD display mostly because of the clock feature!

  • Fabulous Tooth Brush!
    By A2DK7B3XTVKDLM on 2008-03-31
This toothbrush is amazing. I had an Oral B electric toothbrush before this one that I absolutely loved, and I doubted that any product would be better than that one. But the features on this product are so logical and have been extremely helpful to me. I learned almost immediately that I had not been brushing my teeth long enough, the sensor on the LED screen rewards you with a happy face when you brush for 2 minutes and the face winks at you when you brush for 2.5 minutes. I find myself looking forward to that smile everyday. It has options for sensitive teeth that are nice and the unit itself is completely waterproof and practical. I brush in the shower without any problems. It is loud at first, but not so loud as to be annoying. I think this item is great and I plan to buy one for my family members soon.

  • Absolutely the Best Yet (We've Tried Many Toothbrushes)
    By A3SMR4HRFJARSC on 2008-10-16
Our family has used a lot of different electric toothbrushes in the last fifteen years and this one is the best ever.

    This is why:

    1. The Smart Guide Technology is GREAT. In the past, with other toothbrushes without the 'smart guide' we did not know if we were putting enough or too much pressure on our teeth with the toothbrush.

With a different Oral B model a few years ago I used too much pressure and temporarily damaged the enamel on my teeth. A dentist told me to lighten up on the pressure. But after that I stopped using that toothbrush out of fear of damaging my teeth. A relative also used that same model and damaged his enamel so badly that he sought the care of a dentist who confirmed his enamel was damaged (temporarily) but it was so bad he had to take painkilling medication. In the model's defense my husband used that same model with no problem.

This Oral B model is superior because it senses the pressure so we don't damage our teeth AND so that we apply enough pressure to clean our teeth well.

I have my children using this now also as now they know when they are applying the right amount of pressure. I have struggled over the years to try to get them to brush their teeth well enough and long enough.

    2. The visual aid helps with the timing of the brushing. The little screen shows the time in numbers and it shows what quadrant of the teeth to brush at that time.

Yes other electric toothbrushes that my children used had a beep or a pause in the brushing action to indicate each 30 second segment of time. But for whatever reason, this different visual aid is helping them more. They like to watch it and count down the time. They make a game of it. (You can also change it to count up if you prefere that.) My kids are no longer claiming to 'not hear the beep' or to rush through the brushing and shut it off saying 'it must have been long enough and it must be making a mistake to still be on'. The kids (boys age 8 and 11) also like the visual reminder of which quadrant to brush in that 30 second segment.

    3. After the cleaning my mouth feels like it does after a professional cleaning.

    4. Lastly and less importantly, the boys think the toothbrush with the screen is cool and fun.

Confession: My husband is a toothbrush junkie always in search of the latest and best one on the market. This is why our family has bought (too many) electric toothbrushes in the past. I'm the type who uses one that works well until it dies, but he is the one spending money to buy the latest and greatest. In this case I am glad he bought this one!

Honestly this is a great toothbrush!

  • Excellent purchase
    By A2E4SW0WC8N71J on 2008-01-18
This toothbrush is awesome! I went to the dentist recently and they said my teeth have never looked better, it's a fantastic product and well-worth the money.

  • overall a very good product
    By AM9E7GVVMFY85 on 2008-03-04
I have been using this toothbrush for a little bit more than a week and I can feel the change in my mouth. My teeth feel cleaner and look brighter.

It's easy to charge, totally waterproof. You have a case to carry it around with you. The smart guide is useful since you know what is the perfect time to stop. And it's a great clock in your bathroom.

The only thing that I can complain about is its price. It's amongst the most expenseive toothbrushes. But you get what you pay for!

  • Oral B Triumph 9900 w/Smart Guide
    By A205HDULWXNOCB on 2008-03-25
I like this toothbrush overall. The motor is pretty powerful. I've only had it about 2-3 weeks so the jury is out on seeing a shade lighter. Personally I think the brushhead is too small but I guess it is that way to focus on one tooth at a time. I think the price is too high. The manual says the battery will last about 2 weeks but you begin to see the battery going down after 3-4 days and it seems the power isn't at full force.

I like the fact it comes with a second brush for flossing.

I previuos had one of the Soniccare brushes and think I like it better.

  • Oral B Triumph 9900 Toothbrush with Smart Guide
    By A3IVSSPN10PYDG on 2008-01-14
This product is fabulous. This toothbrush cleans your teeth better than any toothbrush that I have used. The Smart Guide helps to be sure that you brush your teeth the proper amount of time and if you go an extra 30 seconds you get a smiley. I look forward to hearing my dental hygenist brag on what a good job that I am doing.

  • Great Toothbrush
    By A26HN48W70IC4H on 2008-02-12
Previously used Oral-B Professional 5000 series toothbrush for many years.
The difference between that and the Triumph is the difference between an old Volkswagen and a new Mercedes-Benz. Just love this toothbrush. The Smart Guide feature makes the onerous task of teeth brushing almost fun.

  • Smartest Toohbrush On The Market!
    By A82YTY4CQQP85 on 2008-02-18
The timer on the toothbrush is an asset. I like the way in which the timer moves at thirty second intervals. The happy face at the end of two minutes is a plus. I like the flossing action on the brush head. The timer being detached from the main unit is nice because you can place it where ever you want. I would recommend this product to friends and family.

  • Best Toothbrush ever

I have tried the various Sonic Toothbrushes and many others, but, this toothbrush cleans my mouth and teeth better than anything I have tried before.

  • great to train kids to brush
    By A1MTJGAF1AFUXK on 2008-03-21
I bought this for my son who doesn't like to brush his teeth and recently got braces on his top teeth. The brush looks cool, feels powerful like getting a teeth cleaning at the dentist, and the timer really helps my son to make sure that he is spending enough time brushing his teeth in each sector of his mouth. He really enjoys brushing now. It also has special orthodontic heads to help with brushing around braces.

  • Terrific cleaning, love the timer!
    By A1IY4LFRLY016E on 2008-03-23
I've been an electric toothbrush fan for a decade and owned oral B in the past. This is the "cadillac" of the line - - does a great job. The "timer thingy" really does help you stay on task and concentrate.

The price on this baby is not cheap. But taking good care of your teeth is a worthwhile investment.

  • Very Good Toothbrush
    By A10DZE99G0BWLW on 2008-03-27
The Oral B Triumph 9900 gives a complete brushing and has a nifty timer that lets you know every 30 seconds that you have brushed a quadrant of your teeth long enough. High ly recommend.

  • I RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT
    By ASSSY2TLQ9LQY on 2008-08-07
Hi Everyone i was asked to give my opinion on my recent purchase through Amazon so here i write.
I would recommend this product !! it does a great job of cleaning the teeth, i've used electric toothbrushes for several years and nothing comes close to this one, the Triumph 9900 with Smart Guide, like it says it leaves your teeth feeling like you just left the dentist office.
Its alittle pricy, but i search for the best bargin and i found it at Amazon.
thanks for reading my review and happy brushing ! Nothing like a nice smile and white teeth.

  • YOU NEED TO REGULARLY CLEAN THIS THING ONCE A WEEK!!!!!!
    By A3CW14P91A4REI on 2008-08-30
This toothbrush is great especially for someone who is lazy like me. I would consider this to be my first electrical toothbrush. What I really like about this this toothbrush is the smart guide. It guides you in a way to where to brush. It basically separates your mouth into four quadrants and you would spend 30 seconds on each quadrants. However, there is one complaint that I have. YOU NEED TO REGULARLY CLEAN THIS THING ONCE A WEEK!!!!!! Let's be honest here. Your mouth contains thousands of bacteria (Especially in the morning when you wake up. Hence, MORNING BREATHE!!!!) Well, if you don't clean the base around it, underneath it, and every other area, some gunk will build up. And that gunk my friends is bacteria!! Overtime, that gunk will emit a nasty sulfur smell. I read nowhere in the reviews that this is a problem but with me it is. Other than that, this brush does great work and keeps your mouth clean.

like to brush before but with the ORAL B its fun. Like when I was a kid..it tells you when you did the correct time for each section and give you a smile when done.
    great product.

  • this makes me want to brush my teeth
    By A1QYZ0YDJS8TSJ on 2008-02-09
i spent some of my x-mas and birthday money on this brush and absolutely love it. for the first time in my 53 yrs. of life, i enjoy brushing my teeth. i can really see a difference in the whiteness of my teeth too, plus the health of my gums. the only problem with it is the price of the replacement brush heads. but that should be expected with what i spent on the toothbrush itself. but i was lucky enough to find a super deal on the 'flossaction heads' that i prefer at only $12.99 for (3) of them. and although the toothbrush hasn't told me to replace the head yet (how awsome that it does this for you), i can see definate wear considering that i just purchased it on 1/1/08. maybe it's because i brush more thoroughly with this one and have never had an electric toothbrush before.

  • Love it!
