Big Improvement Over Norton By A1FAQCCJUJ1I73 on 2007-10-14
After a series of frustrations with Norton Antivirus I resolved to search for a better alternative. I noticed that Kaspersky Antivirus 6.0 was well regarded by the user community, so I decided to make the switch to 7.0 when I purchased my new computer.
Kaspersky has far exceeded my expectations. I experienced no problems whatever with installation--no other antivirus programs had been installed since this was a new computer. Moreover, I found the program to be readily adaptable to my needs as a user. Most important, Kaspersky allowed me to set the level of intrusion that I wanted rather than to simply tolerate too high a level, which is clearly undesirable. I particularly liked the feature that allows you to set the update at a time that is suitable for you. (I chose daily at 7:30 AM rather than hourly.) I also liked the backup disk feature, which is easy to use and essential for system recovery. All of these capabilities are documented in the well-written, 67 page User's Guide. The crucial point to see is that Kaspersky gives you more choice and more control than has usually been the case.
In short, I highly recommend this product to anyone seeking an improved, nicely behaved, and easily customized antivirus program. Kaspersky 7.0 is an outright winner among the alternatives that I am aware of.
It is a good AVS product but... By A18NG1YL889EX2 on 2007-10-05
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0 is a good product. It has all the properties that I am expecting from an AVS.
- It updates itself daily via Internet
- Offers good performance. It will not bog down older computers while protecting your PC like some competitor products do.
- It actually catch many Virus and Trojan programs. I am with Kaspersky since version 5 and feel secure as this AVS has actually intercepted and neutralized many virus and trojans that I was receiving through e-mails or other means that I have never figured out.
However, this is by far a perfect product. In my opinion, its proactive defense is way to much intrusive to be actually useful. When this feature is turned on, it is going to prompt for your approval anytime an installation program wants to write into the registry, a process tries to launch another process (ie: Internet Explorer that launch Outlook when you click on an e-mail link on a web page) or just if an application tries to load a DLL.
Will not work with Zone Alarm By AF89D6WKM48R2 on 2007-11-28
Its a known problem. Zone Alarm must be uninstalled prior to installing Kaspersky AV 7.0. Once AV 7.0 is installed you can not install Zone Alarm 7.0 or above again. Its a known conflict. ZA uses some of Kaspersky's AV tech and Kaspersky uses some of ZA's firewall in the internet version. But as seperate software they conflict. So if you use the free zone alarm and want to still use it avoid this. And if you want to you use Kaspersky AV 7.0 you must avoid Zone Alarm 7.0 or above. Go look at the forum at ZA and its a known problem. They suggest you try the ZA ver 6.5 but its not available for d/l anymore...
Installation Issues with this Product By A2QFHNDUH9USCI on 2007-10-26
I tried and failed to install this product on three different computers. Each time, I received an error message. Support is minimal. Installation problems do not seem to be addressed on the website. The suggestions I recieved were to uninstall most or all of my other spyware and firewall programs. I wanted easy. This wasn't it. This program makes Norton--a notoriously difficult program---look good.
Good protection. Not bloated. By A2UOHALGF2X77Q on 2008-01-29
I used to use Norton until it became so bloated and slow. I'm very happy with Kaspersky 7. It does everything I want it to,and nothing I don't. It updates itself every few hours. It's stopped everything bad that I've needed it to. It doesn't slow my system down to a crawl. And it has worked 100% perfectly on my system. I couldn't ask for anything else.
- Nightmare Upgrade
     By A27FWSIQH7GWTN on 2008-05-05
I used the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 product for one year and it worked well - no issues and I'd give it 5 stars. This product maintained a good balance between security and system performance, as well as providing good feedback and control mechanisms one would expect from a mature antivirus program. I have used several antivirus products from Semantic, McAfee, and Trend Micro -- all on this same PC over the past 5 years and the Kaspersky 6.0 AntiVirus product was a clear winner from all of those products.
However, my problems with the Kaspersky Anti-Virus product started when I tried to renew my license after it expired. Following Kaspersky's license renewal/upgrade instructions on their website left me with a more expensive version of their product line (Internet Security) and removed all of my existing licensing information so I could not 'upgrade' and had to purchase a new license instead.
The renewal instructions suggest upgrading to their 7.0 product (for free), but this requires uninstalling the 6.0 version. An uninstall feature found in the 6.0 product was supposed to maintain my purchased license information so I could easily upgrade to the new version. This feature does not work and will erase all license information during the uninstall.
When I proceeded to install the 7.0 AntiVirus product, the link from the renewal website installed a more expensive version of the Internet Security product instead. I verified this explict link downloads the wrong version of the software and I pointed this out to the company.
So now I had a more expensive product on my computer and no proof of purchase from my 6.0 product. The next step Kaspersky recommends in this situation (after searching their website) is to email them to retain your license information. It took them over a week to respond and they asked for the original email receipt they sent when I purchased the product over a year ago. If I had this email receipt I wouldn't need to email them for the my license.
I can draw one of two conclusions from this poor upgrade experience: 1) Kaspersky is an incompetent company, 2) Kaspersky is a dishonest company and tries to force their customers into purchasing a much more expensive product. Either way, I no longer trust this company with protecting my computer.
About me: I'm a software engineer with 15+ years experience and I have created, used, purchased, renewed, installed and uninstalled countless software products.
- Excellent A/V software
     By A2DU5C0ZN06025 on 2007-12-23
This software has received rave reviews elsewhere. What I most like is that the download is fairly small, and you can see (feel) that when you realize that your 'puter didn't slow down at all. Very non-intrusive program, with auto update and scheduled scans whenever you want.
- Renewing is a PAIN
     By A2JZPBQCSRM92G on 2008-05-07
I had the 6.0 version and loved it, my computer ran great with it.
But when it expired May 2008, I click "Renew your license" on the kaspersky screen, and it had me upload the 7.0 version which I wanted, but then it said pay $80 to renew the key to activate the new 7.0 version.
I only paid $50 for the 6.0 version and now they want me to pay $80 for the 7.0 which I said no to. Because I can buy the 7.0 CD for $44 from Amazon which is cheaper then renewing the key with kaspersky online for $80. But now every year I have to order a new disc when the license expires is CRAZY!! Talk about wasting paper & plastic
Kaspersky should give you a discount for renewing your license/key online every year, or at lesat make it the same price as buying the cd and not force you to pay more!! There renewing process is terriable. When this license expires (2009)I am going to look into using a different company or hopefully they read reviews and change their renewing process.
- DO NOT BUY IF YOU HAVE VISTA
     By A1TK345B4M84L7 on 2007-12-12
Essentially, this is a good product.
HOWEVER, I installed it on my new dell laptop with Vista and my computer immediately crashed (3 times). Blue screen of death and everything. I had to call Kaspersky tech support (which worked surprisingly well) and get detailed advice on how to fix all the problems.
I ended up having to delete all my other antivirus software on my computer. It is almost as if the Kasp. program was written to force you to delete all other brands of antivirus.
While in the end, now, it works seemingly well, the hassle and stress of installation permanently biased my opinion.
- caused me more problems than it was worth
     By A1D0BZOI1S0WOU on 2008-01-19
I installed Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0 and started getting all kinds of warnings from the proactive defence feature. I followed the warnings and terminated the programs and soon found out that the proactive defence was targeting all sorts of necessary drivers. When I realized what was going on I used the file back-up feature and tried to restore all of my drives but It didn't work properly.
In the end I had to re-install windows to get my computer up and running again.
I wouldn't recommend this product unless your relatively computer savy so you know what is actually a threat and what isn't.
- Excellent product, BUT...
     By AT4M25O8I6O8R on 2008-04-12
I used to have Norton. As the years went on, Norton turned into second rate anti-virus protection. So I decided to try Kaspersky. I'm very happy with it. I run Windows XP with 1GB of memory on an HP and have had zero issues - once I got it installed properly.
First, you should absolutely positively run the Kaspersky GSI Tool BEFORE you install their software. It will tell you what software you have on your machine that may interfere with Kaspersky. The install instructions in the box do not tell you this. I learned the hard way.
Second, check the Kaspersky support forums at forum.kaspersky.com if you have any questions BEFORE you install the software. There's lots of information in the forums that I found useful - such as interactions between the free Comodo firewall and Kaspersky. However, like all support forums, double check all answers you are provided. (They told me that my printer driver was malware and that I should uninstall it. Luckily, I knew better.)

- Not compatible with anything!
     By A31WKK42FAWD7V on 2007-12-23
I bought this because it was the best according to cnet. I have windows xp sp2. Since I installed this program my pc has crashed over and over again. I am looking for new anti virus software.
- Kaspersky AV 7
     By AP27W8TE5651X on 2008-01-07
Great AV it has the best ratings, it works great with my HP system running Win XP, seems to be very light on system resources and gets along with all other apps. Also running Comodo firewall, seems to run together better than Zone alarm did, it said to uninstall Comodo on installation so I did, then I reinstalled it (firewall) after and it has been working just fine.
- Solved my problems
     By A2QC0FDSWIEJ5S on 2007-12-02
This antivirus kills them DEAD! This software has worked where all else (including the "biggest" names) failed.
I had a terrible case of attack that brought down my network. After trying a trial copy, the magic was evident. Now, I use Kaspersky, even on my phone. Get your copy now!
- User Friendly/ Very happy/Support sucks
     By A3547IBY56B8KL on 2008-01-05
I am very happy with the performance of this product. Terminology is easily understood.I loaded it in two PC's with XP O.S. and everything loaded smooth. But the problem I have is getting support to answer my email questions. Its been over 2 weeks and still no answer. It seems the trend these days. Make a good product but suck on the support or make a bad product and support is awsome. Gee's.
- Don't Buy
     By AT1AXMJ3V02W on 2008-02-16
I had the misfortune of buying the Kaspersky Anti-Virus v7.0. Not only is this the absolute most user-unfriendly product I've had, it started causing problems with updates. The product updates would not communicate with the Windows Security Center properly, so Windows would report that this software was "turned off". Not so. I got disgusted with this product and uninstalled it. Also, I sent a message to Kaspersky customer support about a refund. They haven't had the courtesy to even reply with a yes or no. I would not recommend any product from this company, since they don't seem to stand behind their products, and will NEVER purchase another Kaspersky Labs software product.
- Like a bad dream
     By A191RO89RBS81P on 2008-06-06
After I installed the Kaspersky AV program my computer froze and was completely unusable. It took several hours of work and the services of a computer engineer to persuade the computer to uninstall the program. I have been using PCs for more than 25 years and never had such a horrible experience. My first encounter with a Kaspersky product - and my last, believe me.
- Update
     By A223HIKAM8W6N1 on 2008-01-14
Vista is driving me nuts, and Hp's version is bad. My friends Toshiba with Vista is problematic, but better than my HP laptop.
I bought the Kaspersky after Zone gave me BSOD. I loaded Kaspersky, and the computer quit crashing, but it was weird. I downloaded System Mechanic, and my computer was back in my control, but the SM and K didn't always play nice, so I downloaded the SM Pro and deleted the K.
I can't believe that it is the same computer. It acts like it should, almost.
Update July 10, 2008
Well, the Symstem Mechanic eventually ruined the computer, so about the middle of May I did a complete recovery of the Vista, junked the SM, and put the Kapernsky back in. I think that my problem was that I tried to delete some of Hp's bloatware and tried to block the updates.
Now, I did not delete any of the HP software, and set the updates to notify me, and I wait a couple of days and then install the important ones. I still haven't tried SP1 yet, but I will soon.
Now, I like the computer a little better, but I still do not trust it.
If I could change the Kapersnsky to Five stars, I would. I will definitely update in October.
- Use to love it..
     By A9TFPPQQ5RID1 on 2008-01-19
I recently tried to upgrade from the 6.0 version to the new 7.0 version and not until midway thru the upgrade did Kaspersky inform me 7.0 is not compatible with my current firewall software. This after I had already uninstalled the 6.0 per their instructions. I don't like being forced to use only a particular software brand.
- Best Anti-Virus I have used
     By A3H60E78YS5A05 on 2008-01-31
I have had no problems loading and it runs very smooth. I also had version 6.0 with no problems.
- Great for the first year, but then watch out!
     By A1D6UAGSNMQT86 on 2008-02-07
I left Norton's and then McAfee's "we're number 1 attitudes" for Kaspersky and was happy for the first year, until renewal. The renewal process and notices are lacking. The web site is out of date for renewals. The application's functionality for renewing is broken according to their own web site instructions. The "sorry, we blew it" renewal web page doesn't provide entry instructions, so if/when you mess up with even one entry, then the entire page that you've edited goes blank when you try to submit. This faux pas was a "lessons learned" for first generation web site developers ten years ago.
I've been a software development entrepreneur for years. I believe that Kaspersky still has the "little guy" mentality, so their entire development focus is chasing after new money and not trying to keep their existing customers happy. I'm going over to Bit Defender (Kaspersky engine, but alternate business approach).
- Too Slow
     By AWWTIUPQLF108 on 2008-02-28
After I installed this, my computer (2004 Dell Inspiron 6000, Windows XP) took 30 to 60 minutes to get onto the internet (AT&T high speed). I uninstalled it and bought Norton/Symantic's version and I am back to full speed.
- big problems
     By ACW7HZQJBPBA7 on 2008-05-14
I recently installed Kaspersky 7 on my desktop when the K-6 was about to expire. Now I am having big problems accessing sites that previously worked fine, including my bank(fortunately, I have a different anti virus program on my laptop and so am able to access info that way). Keep getting "Certificate error" messages. I had Kaspersky 6 for a year and all was OK. Recently purchased 7 from Amazon and nothing but trouble since. My daughter purchased her own copy and her computer is crashing big time. I believe we are both going to un-install and buy a different program for anti-virus. Not sure if we can return for a refund or not, but will try. Since I can't get to Amazon's customer service page now, I am searching for a phone number to get help. Anyone have this number?
Also... about the rebate: in one place it says that the $25 rebate is for owners of previous Kaspersky anti-virus program (that would be me) and on the PDF that I am to print out and send with proof of purchase, etc., it says something quite different.
"Cut out and tape the original UPC barcode from the product packaging to this form. Photocopies will not be accepted. You must provide proof of previous ownership by enclosing ONE of the following in order to qualify for the rebate: Page 1 from a competitor's anti-virus manual or a photocopy of a competitor's anti-virus install disk (Third party merchants excluded)."
I have emailed Kaspersky for help and had no reply in three days.

- Better than Norton
     By A2OIF6ZL17EQSM on 2008-06-05
Kaspersky is very reliable program; I have been using it for a couple of years now and am never going back to Norton. It does its job in the background and you would never even know it is there until pops up and tells you that there was a problem but it has already been solved. The only problem is that the online renew feature is impossible. My recommendation is to just buy it every year from Amazon its actually cheaper that way than buying it direct from Kaspersky. Bottom line great product just don't try to renew you license online.
- kaspersky Antivirus
     By ATX3S2L66ZOWV on 2008-06-13
I purchased the Kaspersky Anti-Virus aand Maximum Spyware protection. I have to say the installation was uneventful, which is wonderful. I had Norton before and had so many problems that it was quite refreshing to have something work so smoothly as the Kaspersky program. The one problem I had was with a rebate that came with it. I did everything exactly as stated on the rebate instruction and even photo copied everything and then mailed it off. The Kaspersky Co. sent me an e-mail saying I had not submitted proper evidence. I contacted their customer service dept via e-mail and called them liars and said a few more things and the next day I had another e-mail stating that my rebate was approved and would arrive in 6-8 weeks. I hope they follow through.
- Couldn't get it to work at all!!
     By A2Q30A3KQ7Q06 on 2008-06-21
I bought the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0 because I was getting sick and tired of Bit Defender. I had several programs that wouldn't run while it was enabled. After reading some very favorable reviews of the Kaspersky product and the fact that it had a decent rebate on the 3 PC user version, I decided to try it. What a hassle! It wouldn't let us complete registration at all. We emailed their tech support service (which by the way was actually pretty decent)and they sent us various links and/or suggestions to get it done. Finally, after 5 days, we got it completed. However, NOTHING WOULD WORK! No email, no browser, nothing! Back to tech support and so it would go for two more weeks. They were very helpful in sending various removal tool links etc. They also decided that we would benefit instead from the 2008 version (this box contains 2007)so they sent us that upgrade. No help. Another engineer there said they decided we should try the 2009 version which supposedly contains the fix for this problem. They sent us that link. We could access our browser briefly but still no email or other applications.
After 3 weeks of back and forth, they offered us a full refund. We did try everything we could to make this work but for us it was a no-go. This was with Windows XP on the system.
- Best AV
     By A1YNUYOCEAFVLT on 2008-03-08
This is the best AV software I have used so far. I've used Norton and McAfee in the past. This beats them all in protection and features.
- NO VIRUSES
     By A94WWVZ2J8OB4 on 2008-03-20
I really love this product. It protects my computer well from virus and syware attacks. I'm glad I bought it.
- Fabulous
     By A3AES7M162BWS9 on 2008-03-22
Switched from Norton because that program bogged down my computer terribly. Kaspersky works great in the background, is easy to use, and finds all the bugs.
- The best anti-virus I've ever used!
     By A3I66MHINEROT7 on 2008-03-25
I've had this for a month and it's been smoothe sailing so far. I've previously used Norton and McAfee, and Kaspersky is the only one that doesn't slow down my computer. Hard to say how well it deals with viruses and trojans, as I haven't had any yet.
