  • Takes Practice

    By A2UTBTRFLA7Z9J on 2008-01-30
This cake takes some practice - especially with the decorating. The top piece bakes much more quickly than the bottom half so place the top part toward the front of the oven. 48 to 50 minutes with a box cake works fine. Decorate the bottom before placing the top piece on - this will make it much easier. The quality of the pan is excellent and it release well.

  • Love this CupCake Pan!

I purchased this pan for my 4yr olds birthday. I've made two test runs, ahead of time. Each time the cake popped right out, here's what I did that worked:

I followed the manufacturers recommendations to wash with soap and warm water, then I used Bakers Joy w/flour already in the spray very generously. The first time I freely filled each pan & ended up w/one side too short and one too full. On my second run, I found measuring about 4 cups into each side was just right, a little over on each side, easily cut off with a bread knife. I baked according to the boxed time for bundt cake and that seems to be the correct temp & time.

One concern, bakes unevenly, but most of that was cut out when evening out the cake.

I do wish Wilton would have provided tips, it's almost as if they didn't test their product.

Top Quality - Love this Cupcake Pan!

  • What a great item!

I bought this for my upcoming birthday as I am a huge cupcake fan. Ths will be just the ticket. I have a dozen smaller cupcakes I bought from Sprinkles and then I will have this big one. I can't wait! It has a non stick finish and a recipe for chocolate pound cake enclosed. The top holds 5 cups of batter and the base holds about 5.5 cups, just for reference.

  • Great pan..much fun.. helpful hinits

This is a really great product. I tried it as soon as i got it in the mail. I had read other reviews and hints before hand, so i knew what to do to make it come out great. Bake only one side at a time. Fill the other side with water to balance the heat. It came out just wonderful.. What a wonderful surprse for my friend on her birthday! I can't wait to use it again. OH.. and the kids had a blast helping to decorate it.

  • This is so much fun!

I ordered this for a friend's birthday who loves cupcakes because I knew she would get a kick out of it. I wasn't sure if it would be worth it since how often do you really have an opportunity to make a giant cupcake. Now, I'm so glad I got it! The pan is very high quality and I had no trouble getting the cake to release after greasing and flouring it. I had so much fun putting the cake together and got so many compliments on it. I have a line of people waiting to borrow it to make their own. I am planning to use it for my niece's birthday in a few months. I would recommend using a pastry bag to frost it as it gives it a really nice finished look and with the spiral ridge baked right into the top it's very easy to follow the swirl.

One other thing I will recommend is not to use all ten cups of batter. I put 5 cups in each side and it mushroomed. I have to pull it out and scoop it off so that the middle would cook all the way through. I think I will try filling it halfway next time instead.

  • Great product!

I bought this pan for my daughters 1st Birthday and her cake was a total hit! I had no problems getting the cake out of the pan. Next time I will add a little more batter to each one. I read some other reveiws that stated the bottom cooks longer than the top, so I let the bottom cook for 10-15 mins first and then added the batter to the top. It worked great! This is a fun cake that can be made at anytime of year! I love it!!!! :)

  • Good Idea, but pan sucks.
    By A1LVIO5I04PFRY on 2008-02-08
I'm an experienced decorator and I hate this pan. I normally carve my 3D cakes, but I was given it as a gift for Christmas and needed to make a friend's cake in a hurry. It bakes unevenly, not only cake top vs bottom, but the outside of the bottom cake was dark brown while the inside was still raw. I tried a second round with a heating core and it didn't fare much better. I ended up hollowing out the middle and filling it with chocolate mousse.

I love this pan . The only thing it didnt come with instructions
on how to fill each side,or if you were going to use a box cake how long to keep it in.I tried with a box cake & I filled the side thats the top to the first ring & the rest for the bottom. It takes approximently 45 to 50 min.I make these cakes for each of my Grandchildren's Birthday they get
to pick the flavor of the cake & frosting. They love it.

  • The bigger the cupcake, the better!
    By A49CCZXPENLBE on 2008-02-15
I made this yesterday for Valentine's and it came out great. I used two boxes of cake mix and with the leftover batter ended up making a few mini heart cakes. I baked it for 60 minutes at 325 degrees, let it cool for awhile, flipped it over and then cut off the lumps to make a clean straigt edge for them to lay atop eachother. Decorating was a little bit of a challenge because of the ridges and I didn't really liked the piped look. But with some patience, it got done and my family loved it.

I bought this pan for my daughter's first birthday cake. It was great. The cake came out of the pan with no problems. I love it.

  • Overall good product, makes an adorable cake
    By A3GV4PGBDTUIPC on 2008-02-23
After reading a blog that talked about how difficult this cake was to bake and decorate, I was a bit worried about my decision to purchase. Good news - I was pleasantly surprised. I did one practice cake for my daughter's 1st birthday and then the real thing. Turned out well, though the edges always seem to get a little overdone.

Bought this for my husband's surprise 40th Birthday Bash!! It was a hit!! Baked up beautiful!! Used only one cake mix and had little left over!! Came out clean from the pan and easy to decorate!! Love it!!

  • Love it!

I bought this last night and made it for my girl's night. I used boxed cake mix and used a little more than half for the bottom, and the rest for the top. I do agree that the top cooks faster than the bottom, but it came out just fine. I had absolutely no problem getting the cake out of the pan. I greased VERY well because I didn't want it to stick, then because there were so many crevases that I could have missed, I sprayed it with cooking spray. I baked it for probably 40 minutes, checking on it after 30 minutes. I did have to cut the top and bottom to make it flat so it was easier to put together, but that was no problem at all. Cakes rise that's what happens! It came out so cute and I'm so happy I got it!

  • Good idea; bad execution
    By A3DW42YJ307XG5 on 2008-02-10
This pan was a great idea, but unfortunately I don't think Wilton tested it properly. I concur that there are really no instructions to speak of. My cake came out a bit burned on the outside and undercooked in the middle. I would DEFINITELY advise against baking the top and bottom portions at the same time-the top part is so much smaller, it cooks up a lot faster than the bottom. If you have a metal core for the bottom, you should use it.
The finished cake is not as large as a regular 8- or 9-inch 2 layer cake, so if you're making this for a large party, you will need to either make 2 cakes or supplement with smaller cupcakes.
It is awfully cute when it's assembled though!

    By A2AHMWY5TWBFQX on 2008-04-11
I read some reviews about uneven cooking, but mine turned out great. I did not use a box cake recipe, but the "most popular chocolate cake on the web" recipe. I cooked it a few minutes longer than recommended. It was so adorable and is sure to be a favorite for years to come.

  • Cute Giant Cupcake
    By A2Y32714SORKO2 on 2008-04-17
I thought the finished product looked very nice. However, since the bottom portion of the cupcake had to bake for so long to cook thoroughly, the edges of the cake were a bit too dry for my taste. The top also cooks much faster than the bottom....

Besides that, it came out adorable!

  • Giant Cup Cake Pan
    By A2YSI55KVLCWAK on 2008-05-02
I recently purchased the Wilton Dimensions Large Cupcake Pan. While my three cakes looked great after I had frosted them, I had difficulty with each one during the baking process. One side of the pan is quite deep, so the batter on that side does not cook in the center. The other side is more shallow, causing it to become over-done while trying to get the center of the deeper pan done. The cakes were also not too easy to put on any kind of party plate, since the cakes were so tall, that they hung over the sides of any plate I tried.
The deeper pan should have had a post in the middle, like an angel food pan, so the batter would have gotten done. I will try again, and will attempt to somehow get the shallow cake out of the pan, and then continue cooking the deeper side.

  • Easy!!
    By AL7CTC7QAS43X on 2008-05-17
Did a test cake before attempting to present it to the public. Used 1 1/2 pre-mix boxes of cake. Sprayed Pam to grease. Filled both sides, leaving 1" from top. Baked @ 325 for 60 mins. Let totally cool. Flipped pan and they both slide out. Trimmed the excess so the top would lay flat on the bottom. Layer a THICK level of whatever your putting between the 2 layers. I had a decent layer, but when I ate a slice, the larger bottom portion of cake over powered the frosting layer I had and could barely taste it. Then threw a layer of frosting on the top! EASY! Im looking forward to putting time into decorating nicely. As far as slicing...I sliced quickly, with a very long knife. I sliced like I would a normal round cake. Have plates VERY close and ready to catch the pieces!! I posted a pic. Not half bad for not trying too hard!!

  • Very fun cake mold!
    By A2KNOQNZ12QZYX on 2008-06-04
I used this giant cupcake mold for my son's first birthday cake. It was really fun to make and decorate, and turned out great! I just used a store-bought cake mix (chocolate) and the cake itself turned out fine. Although the top of the cupcake does cook faster than the bottom, it's not so much faster that there was any noticeable dryness in the texture. I filled the top portion 3/4 full and the bottom 1/2 full with batter. The one downside to the pan is that the center of each portion really balloons up with steam during cooking, so to put it together, you will have to even off each part by cutting some off. On the bright side, you'll get a little snack out of it!

For decoration, I made a large batch of cream-cheese frosting and colored 1/3 green, 1/3 blue, and left 1/3 white. I piped on the green and white, alternating, on the bottom half. This made it look like a paper cupcake pan liner. I piped the blue frosting on the top in a giant swirl. I used Necco wafers to decorate the top, like giant sprinkles. Mike and Ike's would also be good here, like giant jimmies. Final touch--a large size candle to keep with the proportions. (see the customer images for the final result!)

Everyone was really impressed with the cake and one person even asked where I'd bought it! I would definitely make this cake for other kids' events, or for friends who love cupcakes. Very fun!

  • Wilton Giant Cupcake Pan
    By A1AWKH50Z8PSFK on 2008-04-03
Very cute-but impossible to get out of the pan in one piece, even well greased and floured. The two sections didn't bake at the same time, and the bottom part (which is larger) wasn't cooked through. Very disappointing.

  • Fantastic fun pan!
    By ACDWYB0V2LMML on 2008-05-18
We had seen this pan advertised in several catalogs and thought it would be great for our sons birthday... We tested it out with some friends and it was a huge hit! The pan is very well made and worked like a charm. The only thing we've learned is that you will need to cook the cake mix a bit longer than you might normally to ensure it is done throughout. We will definitely be making several of these for our sons birthday party!

  • Very Cute Cake!!
    By ADDT2Q4IHTOCE on 2008-06-09
I made this cake for my 2 year old's birthday. It was really cute and everyone loved it. Plenty of cake to go around because I made cupcakes too! Only problem was getting it out of the pan. Not easy to put a knife in around the edges because they are not straight, so when it came out, it wasn't perfect. However...still very cute and I will use it again and again!

  • Couldn't get the darn cake out
    By A3J0Z98ANWOBNU on 2008-06-28
While this is a super cute idea, I made the mistake of trying this pan for the first time to make my daughters b-day cake. Couldn't get it out. Ruined the whole thing. Also, you definitely need 2 boxes of cake batter or double your usual rccipe to make one cake.

The other bummer is that the bottom of the cupcake cooks much faster than the swirly top so you sort of over bake the bottom waiting for the other side to get done. Bummer. I really love the idea, just hard to execute on...and I didn't even get to the frosting.

Makes a fun cake! Hard to store and cut the cake (since it is so tall). I just bought a cheap deep tupperware container and turned it upside down to cover it. Other than that it is easy to use and everyone loves the shape!
