A solid piece in my home theater By AHT0OKUU37JEI on 2007-10-26
Well, this is the second time I am writing this review. The first time I was almost finished but accidentally pressed the "Backspace" button outside of Amazon.com's review text input box. You know in a normal web browsing session "Backspace" means go back to the previous page, and that's exactly what happened. I lost all the typing and almost gave up writing it again. However the OPPO HM-31 works so well it deserves a detailed review. Here I try again. Five star for the OPPO HM-31 3x1 HDMI switcher and ZERO star for Amazon.com's review user interface design.
I got the OPPO HM-31 switcher after I bought a PlayStation 3 to watch Blu-ray movies and my receiver ran out of HDMI input ports. Actually the OPPO HM-31 is not my first HDMI switch. I tried other switches (one Terk from Amazon and another from monoprice) but none worked for my setup. My home theater has 3 HDMI sources:
1. A comcast/motorola cable box plus DVR. This device is what causes other HDMI switches to fail. No matter it is on or off, its HDMI output is always alive and sends a video signal (no audio when off). When preset recording starts, the HDMI output actually "flickers" - alternating between good/bad signal before going stable.
2. A PlayStation 3 (60GB). I bought it not for playing games, but for watching Blu-ray movies.
3. An OPPO DV-980H 1080p Up-Converting Universal DVD Player with HDMI and 7.1CH Audio. This is a great DVD up-converter. Even though I bought the PS3, I still prefer using the OPPO to watch normal DVD.
All three are connected to the OPPO HM-31. The output of the HM-31 goes into my Onkyo TX-SR604 7.1 Channel A/V Receiver. From the receiver, its HDMI output is connected to a Pioneer KURO PDP-5010FD 50" 1080p Plasma HDTV. The receiver only has two HDMI input ports and that's the reason I need an HDMI switch to get more ports. The TV has more HDMI input ports than I care but it is not a receiver and cannot handle audio for me.
With this setup, everything works well together. The addition of OPPO HM-31 HDMI switch does not introduce any loss of picture or sound quality, nor does it cause any HDMI handshake issues. No matter I watch a Blu-ray movie with the PS3 or play a DVD with the OPPO DV-980H (both set to 1080p), or watch HD channels from comcast, the result is the same as if I directly connect the source to my receiver.
These all seems simple but they are not. When I used a monoprice switch, I often had HDMI handshake issue with my comcast cable box. The TV would display a blue screen with text saying something like "We have detected that the HDMI output has been compromised. Video output is now disabled" . When this happened I had to unplug and replug the HDMI cable to get it working again. With the OPPO HM-31 switch this problem never happened once. The Terk is an OK switch and it got me by, but the constant-on HDMI output from the comcast box totally confused the Terk's auto-switching function. Since the Terk does not have a remote control, I had to walk up to the TV and push the Terk's button. On the other hand the OPPO has a remote and it's much easier to use.
Talking about remote and auto-switching, I recently discovered that the OPPO HM-31 can do auto-switching too, and did it very well. The auto-switching feature was not mentioned in the user manual that came with the box, but the online manual at oppodigital.com talked about it. Following the recommendation on oppodigital.com I put the comcast box on port 3. The always-alive signal from it does not cause any problem with auto-switching since OPPO put port 3 at a lower auto-sensing priority than the other ports. The auto-switching function of the OPPO HM-31 saved me from programming another activity on my Logitech Harmony H-659 Advanced Universal Remote Control (Black). I simply keep using my already programmed "Watch a Movie" activity button for both the PS3 and OPPO DV-980H dvd player. What the button does is selecting the correct input ports on the TV and the receiver. I didn't even program the HM-31 remote control into the Harmony. All I need to do is simply turning on or off the PS3, OPPO DV-980H and comcast box as needed (This task is almost automated by the Harmony, except for the PS3 which uses a Bluetooth remote not supported by Harmony). The OPPO HM-31 is smart enough to know which port has signal and selects the correct port. How does it handle the always-alive comcast box? Well, when both the PS3 and OPPO DV-980H are off, comcast gets selected. Simple!
Overall I am extremely happy with OPPO products. Both the HM-31 and their DVD player work really well. I highly appreciate the company putting out these excellent products. That's why I want to spend the time to write this review - twice, after the first one destroyed by a "Backspace" keystroke.
Excellent product - set it up in 5 minutes, works perfectly By A119SBHPSKGHON on 2007-11-06
I purchased this based on a review above. Like a lot of people with flat screen tv's more than a year old, I only had 1 hdmi input to work with. But, my cable box and my dvd player both have HDMI out, and I wanted the higher quality (and single cable) connection. So I bought this.
Packaging is great, set up is almost idiot proof; hdmi out goes to the tv, dvd and cable box goes to the hdmi inputs. Plug it in and you're up and running. Follow the advice of the first reviewer, and put your cable box into input #3, and then you don't have to use the remote that came with it to switch between inputs. You can leave your cable box on...and then turn on your DVD player with your DVD remote and the TV will recognize the dvd player. Then - this is the cool part - when you're done with your DVD, you can simply turn off your DVD player, and it goes back to the cable box (input #3) without needing to manually switch the input via the oppo remote. Very cool.
I've owned an oppo dvd player for a month now, and love it. Wish more retailers carried these products as they're well made, attractive, easy to set up, and inexpensive!
p.s. don't forget to buy extra HDMI cables, as you'll need at least one more than you have now. I bought cables to go hdmi cables - cheap - here on amazon, and they work fine.
Reliable, simple, up-to-date (i.e., "current") HDMI switcher (1.3 compliant) By A1PW5PPGAT2F0R on 2007-12-24
I bought both an Oppo HDMI switcher (this review) and an Oppo DVD player, and they both work very well.
This switcher is essential for slightly older HDTVs (like mine; two years old is now "old" in HDTV (sniff, sniff)!!) that have only one HDMI input. Today's models typically have three HDMI inputs!! So unless you want to constantly change the HDMI input cable on your TV whenever you switch from one source (e.g., cable box) to another (e.g., DVD player), you need an HDMI "switcher" (or "switch box"). Oppo's switcher accepts three HDMI cables as inputs, and then routes them all (only one at a time) to one HDMI input on your HDTV. You can "switch" from one HDMI source to another by either pushing a button on the front of the switcher, or using the small, included remote to do same. (I keep the remote hidden away, as I have small kids who could easily abscond with it to that unknown place where kids takes parents' items, never to be seen again.) In short, this is THE switcher (switch box) to get if you have multiple HDMI sources but only a one-HDMI-input HDTV.
For those not current on HDTV hardware, HDMI is fast becoming the standard, all-in-one digital cable for hi-def signals. It takes a digital signal from a digital source (like a current cable box, satellite dish or upconverting DVD player) and transfers it digitally to the HDTV; no muss, no fuss, and very little strain on the inner hardware of your HDTV. Most other cables (like the annoying five-wire component cables (3 for video signals and two for audio signals)) actually accept an analog (i.e., "old style") signal from a digital source and send that to the HDTV, which must then translate the signal back into digital, thereby degrading (in varying degrees) the original digital signal AND making the HDTV do a lot of internal work with its own hard drive to present the signal (to the best of its capabilities) in hi-def. So bottom line: use HDMI for the clearest, cleanest digital signal transfer to your HDTV whenever available (and the cables need NOT be high-priced Monster cables; more on that below).
Now, one further caveat: not all HDTV cables and switches are the same. The industry body that created HDMI occasionally updates the technology. First came HDMI 1.1, then 1.2 and most recently, 1.3. Granted, the updates/improvements are modest to the regular viewer's eyes and ears, but they nonetheless exist, so at this time (December 2007), you want to get an HDMI 1.3-compliant cable and (when necessary) switcher whenever possible. Bottom line: this switcher is fully 1.3 compliant (Oppo takes this stuff very seriously and apparently prides itself on same), so it is the most current switcher out there.
And P.S.: in my experience, Monster cables do no better than other, less expensive HDMI cables. Just make sure that whatever HDMI cables you get and use, that they are HDMI 1.3 "compliant" (or "certified").
CONCLUSION: simple, niche product, but current with latest, HDMI 1.3 standards and made by a reliable, serious, hi-tech company that makes only the best when it makes a product. Well worth the price if you have an HDTV with one HDMI input but you have multiple HDMI sources.
Works as described for those w/miminum HDMI inputs on their TV or Receiver By A21ASTTJTY0CPJ on 2007-12-17
Having a Denon 2808 receiver, one of its shortcomings is only 2 HDMI inputs. This switcher takes care of that and covers HDMI 1.3 abilities that include deep color and 1080p(which my receiver and TV support). I have my HDTivo, PS3, and Toshiba HD-A2 (HD-DVD) hooked up to the switch. By doing so and using my Harmony remote I never have to change inputs - the HDTivo is always 'live' but since it's on the third HDMI (one you should use for always live inputs) and the PS3 and HD-A2 on the other 2 inputs whenever I select them the switcher automatically 'senses' that device is turned on and changes to it. Works like a champ: no video or audio reduction when using it.
Small, Sleek & Amazing By A3LAX6AZDABS6L on 2007-10-31
I bought a Terk HDMI swith from Best Buy for $100 and it was a piece of junk that didn't work. The oppo looks much better than the product shot. Sleek and minimal design will complement your entertainment area. Brushed black metal casing. Connected my DVR, PS3 and Xbox 360. Product comes nicely packages with a soft case. I chose Oppo over the Xtreme because it's smaller and wasn't focused on Apple iTV.
- Great little device!
     By A16934SU52VI9F on 2007-12-13
I have a dedicated home theater with a myriad of a/v gear that was mostly pre HDMI connectivity. My projector has a single HDMI input, which is used for my HD DVD player and my HD DVR outputs to it by a DVI. I just upgraded HD DVR to a different company and the new one has HDMI outputs so I needed another input for the projector because I want to keep using my old DVR for over the air broadcasts (my new one doesn't have that capability). Therefore a HDMI switchbox made the connectivity work for me.
My requirements were:
1. 3 HDMI outputs or more
2. HDMI 1.3 capabilities
3. Auto switching so I can tuck it out of sight
This unit has all three, plus the added bonus of remote control should you need to manually select the input. I looked at the Radiient and Purelink as well as Terk but decided to give this unit a try due to the generally good reviews of other Oppo products in the a/v literature. It also was priced significantly lower that the higher-end Radiient and Purelink.
First let me say that set-up is a breeze. I used the excellent HDMI Inspire 1080p (6.6ft) 2M HDMI PS3 Cable 1.3b Certified and I was up and running in 5 minutes. I hooked my HD DVD into input one as the highest priority since it will only be powered on when watching a movie, and my DVR into input two so it will be displayed when the HD DVD is not in use.
The box works as advertised providing seamless transitions from source to source. There is no noticable degredation of video quality on my 110" projected display. It does what it is supposed to do without a hiccup. I still have one extra input which may be used for a Blu-ray someday maybe.
Now, if I could ask for a few more things on this, or any other switchbox, it would be the following:
1. Include optical audio with the inputs so those of us using separate surround sound processors and projectors can send the audio portion of the signal to a separate component.
2. Include a DVI input for those with multiple type sources.
3. Make a locking device so that the cables, which can be weighty or at certain angles can pull out without a positive "lock".
I highly recommend this product and at this price it just can't be beat.
- Really Disappointed
     By A3C6W02IVNNW26 on 2008-01-12
After reading the 5 star reviews for this device, I purchased it when I added a third HDMI device to my setup. My configuration was:
- Samsung 1080i/720p plasma
- Toshiba HD-DVD player
- DirectTV HD DVR
- Sony Playstation 3
The Oppo box simply could not switch between the HD-DVD and DirectTV box correctly (nor the PS3 once it was set up). The TV would indicate it could not find a signal, yet when I physically unplugged the cable from the switch and plugged it in directly it worked fine. Occasionally it would work (sometimes after a LONG wait), but most of the time it did not. I would also get intermittent "flashes" on the screen when I did get a signal lock.
I swapped out all cables and talked to tech support at Oppo. They suggested forcing everything to 720p. I tried it and while slightly better it did not solve the problem.
I suspect the issue was handshaking between the TV and the sources, but a solid switch should handle that transparently. And this was clearly not the case.
Other issues:
- No FAQ on the website at all. I could have tried the 720p idea without the back and forth over email to tech support. Come on, Oppo, it's not rocket science.
- Same as above but regarding priority on the HDMI source ports. The only mention I found was on the internet and not on Oppo's site. But their tech support folks confirmed this feature (which would have been nice, if the box worked.)
I ended up solving my input problem in a much simpler way: simply using component video for the HD-DVD player. I was skeptical, but after a lenghtly side-by-side test I was convinced the picture was just as good as HDMI.
- Excellent for use as PC display switch
     By A2LG0DENJ0CSIK on 2007-12-13
Most of the reviewers are using the OPPO HM-31 for their home entertainment needs; I'd like to add that this switch is the best choice for using multiple PCs with high resolution displays. I have a 23-in Apple Cinema Display that I wanted to use with my MacBook Pro _AND_ my Dell desktop. Unlike my Sony 23-in LCD, the Apple display does not have multiple DVI inputs, so I needed a switch that could support 1920x1200.
The first thing I discovered when looking around for DVI switches was that all of them had maximum resolutions of 1600x1200. The Iogear units that supported 1600x1200 were pathetically expensive. While the Iogear has support for switching USB devices (keyboard and mouse), I really find it sad that it can't handle today's high-end displays. For me, getting maximum use of my high definition display using the OPPO HM-31 is more important than keyboard/mouse switching and you can always use your old KVM for handling keyboard and mouse switching.
The auto-sensing inputs in the HM-31 will make having the OPPO and your old KVM together a non-issue. Once you turn on the appropriate display input, in my case, my MacBook Pro or my Dell PC, the HM-31 will switch to that input on its own, leaving you to just tell your KVM to switch to the right machine. While it might sound like I'm just gushing, the praise is well placed. I have not had any problems using this device as a PC display switch; all I needed were DVI-to-HDMI cables to connect my devices to the HM-31 and I was in business. I wish I could say the same for my quirky KVM I'm using in tandem with it.
- Problem solved
     By A36MYO6JJKOHJM on 2008-03-27
This has turned out to be pretty much what I was looking for, but I first I had to solve a little problem. After I hooked up my cable box to port 3, Apple TV to port 2, and PS3 to port 1, I started having problems with screen flickers and dropouts on HD channels. Everything else worked fine. I replaced the output HDMI cable, but it didn't seem to make a difference, so I called OPPO support. The very nice guy there said it sounded like a cable issue, and he suggested I replace the cable that runs from the cable box to the switcher - something for some reason I never thought about. That did the trick, and now everything is good. It doesn't auto switch back to the cable box after I'm done with PS3 or Apple TV because Apple TV always gives off a signal, which confuses the switcher, but I can live with that. If you bought this switcher and you're having trouble with flickering or dropouts, replace the cable and you should be okay.
- Doesn't work well with my DVR
     By A2IFBQTL3640TJ on 2008-04-21
I bought this product to hook up my DVR, PS3 and HDMI-powered DVD player to my Pioneer plasma, which has a single HDMI input. It actually does the job, however, my DVR experienced diminished significantly. There is a major delay with sound when I change TV channels. Also, whenever I record something on my DVR, the Oppo Switch has to be switched to the DVR mode. Otherwise, I get no sound.
- Comcast Dvr Box Compatible
     By A16EFLW3UHYPD7 on 2007-12-15
im writing this review mainly because i bought 3 other hdmi switches from amazon before finally finding this one that works with my comcast dvr box.
It seems like comcast is really picky about whats compatible with there motorola dvr box. most switches will not give you a picture or give you a picture thats not hd or give you a nice picture and no audio.. it gets aggriavting i had to use the trial and error process and luckily amazon.com's return policy was great!
If you have a comcast dvr box and your using hdmi cables and want a nice picture and nice sound this is the hdmi switch your looking for it works great with my ps3 and comcast dvr service!! dont waste your time with the others as i did.
Thanks Amazon.
- Great product!!
     By A3D1DDH4RP4W14 on 2008-01-15
This was my first switch. After reviewing many comments on many different brands of switches, I decided to try this one. It was worth the money. It is professionally packaged and set-up was a snap. Worked right the first time. I have a Dish HD receiver, and a magnavox upconvert DVD player hooked up to the switch. When I turn the DVD player on, it automatically switches from the satellite to the DVD player. When the DVD player is turned off, it automatically switches back to the satellite. It could not be simpler. Thanks for a great product.
- Works as Advertised
     By A37DW1TRCF6JWM on 2008-01-16
I have tried other HDMI Switches and have come to the conclusion that the problem I was having connecting my Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, and my Up-Convert 1080P DVD player thru my A/V Receiver (Onkyo) was/is that the other switches were not 1.3 certified. This switch from OPPO does what I require it to do, which is switch between my Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, and my UpConvert DVD players and send those signals thru my Onkyo 605 receiver input to my 50" Samsung DLP tv. Worked perfectly. If you have your doubts about the confusing reviews on the myriad number of HDMI Switches nowbeing advertised, then my suggestion is to go with the ones that are 1.3 Certified.
- Great product - small bug with workaround
     By A152XPSMO1ZRCX on 2008-01-26
Used to hook up a Playstation 3 and Dishnetwork reciever. Love it. The only issue is that when all the units are turned off and then want to watch tv, when turned back on, the unit changes the resolution to VGA (because that is the resolution of the dish network reciever notices while turned off). To resolve, simply use the remote to switch to another channel and then back.
- a must have to run a HD and Blu-Ray Player into one video source !!
     By A2YBBCP3QZSHFO on 2008-02-01
I almost bought the new Samsung hi-def DVD dual format player until i read about people waiting for firmware updates and decided to buy seperate players and the OPPO Switcher instead and was still less $$$ ! I'am running a Toshiba A35 HD and Panasonic 30k Blu-Ray players thru this unit and it works flawlessly !!!! its great because it automatically switches to between the players, whichever one is sending a signal to it ! from what i have read this is the best one on the market, most of the other ones have aweful reviews .... if you need a switcher this the one.

I connected it to both my HD DVD and Blue Ray DVD. There is only one HDMI cable from my HD TV. It works great
- It's nice, but has some issues
     By ASJBLVVR4VN65 on 2008-02-10
I got my HM-31 yesterday and had some issues with it immediately.
For starters, the remote will not change the inputs reliably. If you mash the button you're wanting a half a dozen times or so, it will sometimes respond. This may be due to shipping with a bad battery--I'm not sure, because I haven't had a chance to get a new batter and check it out. But for now, I have to either hit the button several times and hope it changes inputs or get up and manually do it. Very annoying.
The second issue is a bigger deal to me. I have the switch hooked up to an upconverting DVD player and an HR-20 HD DVR from Directv. My remote for the HR-20 is set to turn the television and the HR-20 on at the same time. However, when it does this, the switch will NOT sense that there is now an active HDMI input and display it--so I get a black screen. The only ways I've found around this are to switch HDMI inputs on the switch and then switch back, OR to turn on the television first--wait a second--and then turn on the HR-20. This is EXTREMELY annoying.
All in all, if I had it to do over again, I would absolutely not buy this switch, nor would I recommend it to anyone. I thought I was being safe by buying a higher end switch for something like this (since all the switch reviews seem to have people with issues with them), but I was wrong. I'm not going to mess with sending it back to Amazon just for the hassle factor, but I would definitely get a less-expensive and probably more-reliable switch if I had it to do over again.
I would recommend to anyone that they go with a different switch.
- great 1080p switcher
     By A2YNC7QB9A89AG on 2008-03-20
This is a great switcher, there is a little delay when switching. it can be set at automatic or you can set to manual and use either the remote control or the buttons. To use a DVR like with Dishnetwork connect it to the number 3 output
- A must have for your HD Entertainment System
     By A3M3YVCO8CO6TD on 2008-04-22
I have a 60" Panasonic HDTV, but with only 1 HDMI input connection. The OPPO HM-31 Certified HDMI 1.3 and 1080p Switch solves that problem. Believe me, this device works as advertise. For less than a hundred dollars you get to add 3 additional HDMI input connections to your TV. Now I have my PC, PS3 and cable box hooked to my TV, all in digital. Everything looks so amazing. From Blu-Ray movies to PS3 games to regular TV or HDTV. It all is so damn good. I kick myself for not getting this sooner.
All in all: A Great Buy!!
- Oppo continues it success
     By A2VDIF03VOL12K on 2008-05-24
The HM-31 continues Oppo's success in designing and selling quality products that WORK! I used two other well known HDMI switchers that were ineffective. Based on another reviewer's experience I purchased the HM-31 and Voila! ....success with my HDMI Blu-Ray/HD DVD switching
- Great product to expand the home theater
     By AIUIWKM177RPT on 2008-07-22
After reading numerous HDMI switch reviews I went with the OPPO HM-31 to expand the HDMI capabilities of my Denon AVR-888 7.1-Channel/5.1+2-Channel Independent Zone Home Theater Receiver with HDMI I/O and Serial I/R Control (Black)receiver. The receiver only has 2 HDMI input ports and I quickly ran out with my Sony PlayStation 3 80 GB, TiVo TCD648250B Series3 HD Digital Media Recorder, and Sony DVP-NS700H/B 1080p Upscaling DVD Player, Blackplayer.
The OPPO comes in a very nice package, a little overdone for my tastes, and includes a small remote. Funny thing is you really don't need the remote as the OPPO HM-31 will automatically switch between sources based on what is turned on and input port. The lower number input ports have higher priority so the DVD player that I want to always take priority when the kids are using the system is on port 1 while the PS3 is on port 2. If I forget to turn off the PS3 and the kids want to watch a movie on the DVD player it is no problem, the higher priority device will take over.
- Great product
     By A3775ZWS8ZMRDG on 2008-02-08
Works perfect switching from one input to another. It's small so it doesn't take up much room and you can even hang it on the wall if needed.
Great buy for the money!
- Excellent Switcher
     By A2384RR0FLUSNC on 2008-02-08
After foolishly trying an HDMI switcher that I purchased at Radio Shack and then not getting a connection between my DVR and TV, I moved on to this excellent device for only $30 more. Installation involved plugging in the HDMI cables. There is no need to use the remote control when you have only two devices because the Oppo defaults to the DVR box and then switches to the Blue Ray DVD when that is turned on.
- Awesome product!
     By ARAUC8KUYBAY4 on 2008-02-08
Definitely worth the money, especially since it's much cheaper than other products that work the same. Don't even need the remote if you set it up right- priority it assigned numerically. (Satellite on port 3 will go dark if you turn on your DVD on port 2, etc.). Handshakes all work great- any problems might be caused by faulty HDMI cables. Recommend this product fully!!

I had previously purchased an OPPO DV971 dvd player, and loved how it worked. Oppo has been the best with their customer service in the past. So when I needed an HDMI switch, i thought this product would be the one. I was concerned when I read a review of someone who had a PS3, an XBOX 360 and DirecTV HD and said it didnt work, as I have that same setup. As well as that, I also have the Onkyo 7.1 reciever that someone else claimed to have issues with. However I trusted Oppo so I decided to give it a shot. Sure enough right out the box they proved their worth once again.
I was able to hook up my PS3, Xbox 360 and DIrectTV into the switcher, and my old Oppo DV971 into the 2nd HDMI input in my onkyo reciever, and now I am all hooked up, with no issues. The picture is great, and their seems to be no real problems with switching.
I recomend this product. It is clear that HDMI inputs that are carrying mulitple types of signal (1080i 480p etc) can sometimes confuse your equipment, and a reboot of stuff will solve it. However that issue has been reduced tremendously for me and I have not experienced it yet with this switch!
- WORKED LIKE A CHARM!!!!
     By AOH1635W3LQSI on 2008-03-01
I finally found an automatic switch that will work with my stubborn SA 8300 cable box from Time Warner! First I tried the Terk 3-1 HDMI switch. I could not get a picture at all with that device. This unit, while more expensive, worked right out of the box. I have a Playstation 3, SA 8300 Cable Box and RCA Scenium 50' 1080i LCD projection TV. The autoswitching feature works great for me as well. When I run my PS3 the input switches to it, when I turn it off it takes about 5-10 seconds but it switches back to the cable box automatically!
If you have a SA 8300 cable box and need extra HDMI imputs this is the device for you! While I was hoping to spend less money the ease of use and auto switching ability make this well worth the price!
- Very pleased

This is my first review (that's how inspired I am by this product), and I am not a "tech" person.
I bought this product based on a review written by Jeffhdz and I am very satisfied. The product works well and was very easy to install. I needed a switch for the same reason as he did - additional HDMI input ports. His set-up is very similar to mine. I have an A/V receiver with 2 inputs which were being used by a satellite receiver (HD_DVR) and cable box (also HD_DVR). I was purchasing a Sony BluRay and discovered that I would need another HDMI input. Someone suggested a HDMI switch. I came to Amazon and saw Jeffhdz's review. I am not a tech person, but even I understood his review. The switch works like a charm. The picture is beautiful. Just one word of caution. I also have a H659 Harmony remote. The autoswitching mentioned in his review did not work for my components. However, I called OPPO. They were very nice. The gentleman explained that some BluRays are always on although the machine is technically off. This low grade signal makes the OPPO switch think the device is actually on and therefore, doesn't automatically switch. No problem, OPPO added its device to the Logitech database under Amplifier - audio/video switch. I reprogramed the Harmony which took about 5 minutes. Everything works wonderfully. I press Watch a Movie, the OPPO switches to the right port; I press Watch Cable and the OPPO switches to correct port. All in all I am very pleased. If you do buy this product and are hooking up a cable box be sure to use port 3 as suggested by Jeffhdz and OPPO.
Thank you Jeffhdz and OPPO.

I have been a fan of Oppo products since they first started producing DVD players (I own 3 different models). This HDMI switch gave me exactly what I expected; reliable switching with no HDCP handshake issues whatsoever & 1.3 compliant. I have it switching between 2 hd-dvr's and an Oppo DVD player (981hd) and it has definitely done it's job. It also has priority switching if you have it connected to HDMI devices that don't send out a "live" signal when off. Unfortunately, my DVRs still send a signal when off, so I have to either use the small remote included to switch inputs, or manually press the button on the device. I'm very happy with this purchase and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a 3 port HDMI switch.
