Best for those who use their notebook as a primary machine By A23GFTVIETX7DS on 2008-01-21
These "notebook" speakers are designed for those who use their laptops in the same place, day after day. They weigh almost as much as my MacBook and, because they come in a long, solid piece, are more awkward to carry. If you are looking for portable speakers to take with you on vacation or on business trips, skip this product. If you're looking for rich audio at home or at school, read on.
This unit is truly plug-and-play, with no installation disks and a minimal manual. Simply plug the power cord into an outlet (these speakers cannot run on battery power) and plug the USB cable into your computer. The end speakers can slide about two inches wider on both sides to keep various size screens from blocking the sound. The speaker unit comes with a USB cable, a USB cable extender (especially important if your USB slots are on the left side of your notebook), a bracket for holding a webcam above the laptop screen, and a 100-240 V power adaptor. Three USB ports are located behind the right speaker, although the topmost slot is too tight for fatter devices/plugs. These ports are essential since the speakers themselves take a USB slot on your notebook, and you probably have a mouse attached to another.
The sound is rich and without annoying hum at both the loudest and softest volumes. While many portable speaker units sound tinny when the volume is cranked up, the Logitech AudioHub sounds surprisingly steady. Yeah, you're not getting the highest end audio here, but you'll definitely get quality sound for the money. The volume knob on the side glows orange, making it easy to locate even at night.
The AudioHub is perfect for college students who don't have the space for larger speakers but who don't want to sacrifice sound quality as well as for people who use their notebooks in the same place every day. Although the speakers would work fine with a desktop computer, their single-unit construction makes them less than ideal. The only real advantage of this unit over similar sounding speakers is the ability to unplug it and move everything to the side with one action.
Logitech Audiohub - Great sound, great design, well worth a look! By A17BUUBOU0598B on 2008-01-22
With their AudioHub Notebook Speakers, Logitech has produced a wonderful product that will fill a key need in the marketplace. The one-piece design is certainly more sleek and streamlined than competing traditional 2-piece bookshelf speakers. The unit is still not as "portable" as some mobile computer users might demand, and may be better suited for the growing number of those using their notebooks as "desktop replacements." For those seeking above average sound in a sleek package, this unit definitely fits the bill.
Pros
+ Nice performing speakers with a respectable 15 watts of RMS power
+ The beautiful slim black body is both attractive and functional
+ Two 2-inch tweeters and one 3-inch sub-woofer deliver surprisingly crisp 2.1 sound
+ Nifty connecting tower to hold your legacy webcam
+ A nice three-port USB 2.0 hub outbalance the one port used by the system
+ Adjustable speaker width allows you to set this behind any sized laptop
+ Nice back-lit power / volume control
+ 6-foot AC power cable has a medium sized plug instead of the power bricks common with 2.1 speaker systems
+ 2-foot USB cable and 4-foot extension cable provide nice connection options
+ Cable management area in the back keeps your work area neat
+ Simple instructions and plug and play performance for most users
+ 2-year limited hardware warranty
Cons
- No included pouch or carrying case to help transport the unit
- long body and wide base are larger than expected and won't fit into smaller back-packs
- mesh speaker covers are thin and may be prone to tearing
- no traditional input / output connectors for legacy devices
Your average laptop computer has an on-board sound card and low performance speakers. Even newer laptops sporting "name brand" integrated speakers by Altec Lansing and Harmon Kardon usually deliver less power than you would expect from those names.
The AudioHub's USB connection provides a digital music stream instead of the two-channel analog sound you're used to from your headphone jack speakers. The well tuned sound has a nice steady range with decent low, mid-range and high range sounds.
Even though it is marketed for notebooks, it can certainly be used on any computer, including a desktop. The USB connection allows for easy swapping between computers. The sliding speakers move just enough to accommodate the largest laptops.
For the price, Logitech gives the competition a run for their money. The sound is in the class of high-end bookshelf sets like the Creative T20s Creative GigaWorks T20 2.0 Speakersor the Klipsh Promedias Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 2.0 PC Speaker System- Black. The unit sports a nicer range than the Altec Lansing Soundbar, as well as a much cooler design Altec Lansing Soundbar Speakers for LCD Pc.
The power adapter has your standard voltages and comes with a "fat head" design instead of the larger one or two part power bricks so many people hate. The USB hub adds 3 ports to offset the one taken away, which is a great feature. Note that there is very little clearance where the ports are. The button on the right side controls power and volume and has a soft glow that may be too bright for some bedrooms.
Installation is a snap on Mac OS X, Windows Vista or XP. The included manual is a quick start guide.
The minor knocks against this unit are the lack of a travel case or legacy ports. Without an included case, keeping all these parts together for mobile computing is very messy. Not to mention, the soft speaker mess doesn't look like it will hold up to being thrown in a bag with your other gear. It would have been nice to have some legacy ports to connect a few devices to, but they opted for streamlined design instead.
Overall, this is a great set. Give the AudioHub a try and see for yourself. Enjoy!
Good Overall Sound with a USB hub built in. By A2VHSW50J7HO6O on 2008-03-18

nice speakers with a couple of issues By A1DSRM2P0WGQNS on 2008-02-14
First off, the speakers are quite good for their size. I can't complain about the sound. The bass was pretty impressive.
I enjoy that the speakers come with a built in 4-port USB hub.
The fact that the speakers are attached as one unit has its plusses and minuses. There's no way this thing will fit in my laptop bag, but I don't get a tangle of cables. It's also a little big to be really portable.
The biggest minuses in my book is that the speakers don't extend far enough and they require external power. I realize powering the thing from USB would be a drain, but taking up a socket with powered speakers isn't great. I have a widescreen laptop with a 17" screen, and the speakers don't fully clear the width of the laptop - they are about 2" shy.
I think this would be a great solution from someone who had a smaller laptob but did a lot of gaming or watched a lot of media from their desk. Just plug in and go. I can't see too many people lugging these things around.
Does size really matter? The age old debate continues..... By A16IM9MYTHCKYQ on 2008-02-15
What is your primary consideration when buying external speakers for your laptop? If it's small size and portability, then you won't like this. If you want great sound, and you're going to use the laptop in pretty much the same location every day, then the Logitech Audio Hub is a great choice. I've been using it to listen to classical guitar and opera, and find it has a rich sound and plenty of range. You can turn the lighted volume knob up all the way and you won't get vibration or distortion. The sound isn't going to fill an auditorium, but it's more than adequate for an office.
It wasn't clear to me in the pictures, but the unit doesn't attach directly to the back of your laptop - it connects with a USB cable. You can move it back far enough to use of your computer's own USB ports plus the three additional USB ports that are part of the Audio Hub. There is an indictor light that lets you know when the USB hub is on/off. If you use your laptop with a wireless keyboard, or other non-portable devices, you can leave them plugged into the Audio Hub when you're taking your laptop on the road - so, the Audio Hub functions as a kind of docking station, too. (It's too bad laptops don't use a universal power supply, otherwise it could have been made into a true docking station!)
For those who use an external web cam, there is a special mounting bracket that you can add to the back of the Audio Hub. This is a nice extra with a more stable mount and a neater appearance than using a stack of books behind your computer. Using or not using the bracket has no impact on the other features of the Audio Hub, it was just a thoughtful engineering touch. Things like that make me believe that as much thought went into engineering the rest of the unit - the parts that don't always show.
As speakers go, these have outstanding sound quality. The Audio Hub also includes some very nice extras that go way beyond what I'd expect from external speakers. My only quibble with the Audio Hub is that it requires yet another electrical outlet. Recommended!
- Excellent notebook speakers
     By A6FQ99A839SWV on 2007-11-16
I bought this speaker unit as an impulse buy at Costco and do not regret this impulse for a second. The sound quality of these tiny speakers is brilliant, with deep resonance bass and no miss on treble and voice. The profile is low and clean, and the speakers extension is useful for different sized laptops. The footprint doesn't take up much deskspace - a huge plus.
If you have to use your laptop in a desk environment, this unit is the speaker to get.
- No muss, no fuss! I love it!!!
     By A1CDZM5YMB61PD on 2008-01-24
OK, let me just start out be saying that I am definitely NOT a computer geek. In fact, I only just got my first laptop (with Windows Vista, by the way) one month ago. One of the first things we noticed with the new unit was that the speakers were really inadequate, sounding tinny, especially at full volume. Well, this audiohub turned out to be just the ticket.
First of all, the unit is entirely plug-and-play, which means that you just plug it in, wait for it to set itself up, and then start using it - no frustrating installation process, no swapping discs in and out, no hassles at all. The sound is excellent, and makes watching DVDs on the laptop to be a much better experience. (It has a volume button; we had wished that the laptop had one!) When I unplugged the unit, the laptop's speakers didn't immediately spring to life, but simply closing the top (putting it to sleep) and waking it back up brought them back to life immediately. Again, no muss, no fuss! I love that!!!
As an added bonus, this unit an attached two-foot USB cable, a four-foot USB extension cable, three USB ports for attaching other devices (and thus keeping your laptop from looking like it's on life-support), and a bracket for a webcam.
On the downside, this audiohub is a little large, and does not connect to your laptop. That means that if you want to use it on your lap, you are probably out of luck. Well, just place the laptop and audiohub on a desk, and it works great.
So, as a guy who is easily intimidated by complicated devices, I can tell you that this is a great piece of equipment for me. I love this audiohub and give it three very loud cheers (which would sound great if you could hear them on these speakers)!
- arrived broken - would require a replacement
     By AU3GYRAKBUAEU on 2008-02-13
First of all, I have to subtract one star right off the top for this item not being completely functional out of the box, and I know that mine is not the only unit in a small volume of those shipped that was bad. Not a good sign. While it did work, the volume/power knob did not switch the unit on or off and did not alter the volume. It does light up with its nice yellow glow, however. It would be a solid three stars if not for that.
It connected easily to the Windows XP computer I tested it on, and played right away with no need to tweak any computer settings (except volume). The sound quality is not bad for such small speakers, and for most people it would probably be adequate. It is definitely a step up from the "standard" speakers that come with most new computers. It was very crisp and clear in the mid and high ranges, but a little weak in the bass range, which is understandable for small speakers. It takes a certain sized cone to move enough air for adequate bass response, and that doesn't happen until you get to 5 or 6 inch speakers, in my opinion, unless exotic cabinet designs are used.
It was nice that they included a USB extension cable as the main cable is quite short. I did not try the USB hub for speed or function, as my time on the test machine was limited. The USB ports are pretty close together, which means you would most likely need more extension cables.
The instructions are on a foldout page with multiple languages in each section. The directions were minimal but adequate, and I would have liked more detail about the construction and function of the unit. (Like the vendor was actually proud of it.) The power cord is about 5 feet long or so, and connects easily on both ends. The construction was pretty good for something like this, and felt very solid. It is stylish and will appeal to those for whom looks are important.
While the sound was okay for computer speakers (I run my computer audio through a full 120 watt stereo system with 8 inch three way speakers, and have used 12 inch three way systems as well, so I am used to very good sound), I am not sure about the viability of this design. It is useful as a desktop speaker setup, but I wouldn't consider it very travel friendly, as it is not small. (A little bit smaller than three 18 inch aluminum foil boxes stacked together, two on the bottom with one on top.) However, it is one unit with only two wires, and that will appeal to some who get tired of the rat's nest of wires needed for separate speakers. Then again, one won't have the flexibility of placement that one would get with separate speakers. That trade-off is a personal decision.
I also have serious questions about the functionality of using a computer to stand in for a much cheaper CD/mp3 player. While there are certainly computer audio uses (it might be great if you view video/movie files on your computer), I think that its actual usefulness is rather narrow. Headphones give greater privacy and portability, and a larger sound system would be more desirable for a fixed location.
Also, it only takes audio over USB from your computer, so you can't use it for any devices other than a computer (for now at least). I would rate it higher if there were analog inputs for a CD or mp3 player. I also question the wisdom of using USB bus bandwidth for something that could easily be handled by the audio card and its dedicated ports (which is on and drawing power anyway). The idea that it is "digital sound" is pure marketing hype, as the sound will get converted from digital to analog one way or another before it goes to the speakers - either in your audio card or in this device's amp. These speakers have no advantage there.
There are other devices out there that would do the audio portion of what this speaker does, as well or better. My preference would be a separate USB hub and a more versatile audio amp and speakers. For travel purposes, it is definitely too large and requires AC power (it is not powered by the USB line). I think this is more of a gimmick than a really useful item, but I'm sure there are those for whom it will work really well.
I would advise really thinking about your audio needs carefully and researching well before you decide on this unit. I'm also not sure how reliable it will be given it was defective out of the box, and was not a returned item - it had all the original plastic protectors in place.
- Very nice sound and integrates well with Mac/Tiger
     By A2NDC5GX1CTR2D on 2007-11-16
I bought this on faith with no user reviews and just a few tech site reviews, but I am very pleased with the product for the price. I got it from TechDepot/Office Depot via Amazon and received it quickly, in 3 days. As I had read, the bass is not thumping but much stronger than my PowerBook G4 internals. Go to System Preferences->Sound to select the device after connecting it. It is nice to switch between the internal and Audio Hub (in System Preferences) to hear the big difference while playing some music. It has a very good full bodied sound. It is also very good on a desk with limited space, as it tucks nicely behind the laptop as you see in the promo pictures. For those of you who have been listening to built-in laptop speakers, it is especially great to get the stereo separation with this product. I hope more people will post reviews because I am very happy with this purchase and would like to "share the joy".
- Love the Orange Button ...
     By A10C5CJK1YKGV0 on 2008-02-03
Being the owner of several different types of speakers for laptops and iPod's. Thus far, this unit, as a stand alone is my favorite, and for these reasons:
1) The Orange Button on the side. It gives you a clear indication as to whether the sound is on or not, so no unnecessary blasting your face off and wondering where the volume is at when the music kicks in.
2) The sleek design is cool enough to warrant the device to be used as a stand alone unit on my kitchen counter. It doesn't stand out or need a foolish amount of wires to plug it in to the computer and the wall, unlike my JBL speaker set which can double as a clothesline or belay lines up Everest.
3) The incremental volume control is sensitive enough so that you can actually fade the music out if need be instead of hearing a drop off when you're trying to listen to something incredibly quiet. Like in the middle of the night, for instance, when everyone else is asleep and you want to hear Marvin Gaye or something. No problem.
4) No installation of anything at all. Wow! Amazing concept. I'm tired of installing drivers and unnecessary software for the most simplest devices these days. I plugged it in via USB and viola ... done. Didn't even require a manual.
5) The sound that the little unit feeds throughout the room is quite impressive and when strategically placed could probably replace a larger system for casual listening.
6) Wide enough to do what it says it can, judging from the picture on the box. I have a 17" screen and it does fit nicely behind it and the speakers slide out 2 inches on each side if necessary if you need to adjust it.
7) I didn't need the extra attachment that came with the unit as I have no intent on ever using a web cam.
8) Also, I'm not going to use it as pictured, and I don't think placing the unit behind my screen, giving me stereo sound, was necessary - as the unit a few feet away provided more sound than anyone could ask for from such a small unit.
9) This unit is good for a consumer level usage, students, casual internet surfers and folks wanting to listen to music from their laptop without an obtrusive set-up.
10) The unit also provides three extra (powered) USB ports which do come in handy.
11) I'm using this speaker system in conjunction with my Dell Inspiron 1721 Laptop with a 17" screen.
Very cool unit indeed.
- Adequate Notebook Speakers
     By A1T9MILRRZ00F8 on 2008-02-04
Speakers generally require size to sound impressive, so it is difficult for a manufacturer to build a notebook speaker system that excels in all categories: detail, soundstage, clear highs, stirring lows and wide stereo separation. Therefore, I approached these speakers with somewhat low expectations. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the speakers' ability to reproduce clear midrange and highs and to provide good detail in complex musical passages. I was underwhelmed, though, by the speakers' ability to reproduce mid to low bass with authority and no distortion. Unfortunately, the speakers were unable to deal with certain types of music, such as electronic music with somewhat exaggerated bass riffs, without getting muddy and distorting easily. Moreover, even though there is a clever extension or pull out option that allows for better stereo separation, the speakers sounded somewhat closed in and almost monoral. On the whole, these notebook speakers are adequate for notebook applications, but don't expect them to dazzle you with spectacular sound.
- Super Sound, Super Easy
     By AHQHPSGH2YIT on 2008-02-14
I'm not much of an audiophile, but obviously there's a HUGE difference between my laptop's tinny speakers and Logitech's AudioHub Notebook speakers. It's like night and day.
The speakers themselves are incredibly easy to set up. Plug them into an outlet, then plug the USB cord into the laptop. It was that simple. The volume knob is readily accessible, and I really appreciate the fact that it lights up nice and bright so I can see that it's on.
I leave these speakers permanently on the computer desk in our family room, although it's not a big deal to move it around. [...]
Absolutely no negatives. Great sound, great price, great set-up. The only way the speakers could be better would be if there was some way to attach them to the laptop and run them off the computer's power source.
- Great sound
     By A3OO4WIO4SKD55 on 2008-01-20
These Logitech AudioHub Notebook Speakers have great sound. I own GATEWAY MX6453 - Notebook Computer and The sound on the laptop is good but it could be better. My motherboard was replaced and now the original speakers have no sound. When I received these, my sound was back and better than ever. The Speakers have great sound. I could swear I was listening to my computer though my stereo receiver. Great Item.
- Cool Sounds in Cold Motel Rooms
     By AA5PFZ3V6W8H2 on 2008-02-17
When I bought my iMac I paid the extra money and got one in black, because it just looked oh so cool. Besides, I was getting tired of toting around a glossy white laptop, I needed a change. However, like most laptops, the speakers in my iMac suck big time and that's sad for the music I like to come out of it when I'm on the road. I do a lot of writing in motel rooms and those tinny, tiny speakers don't really cut it and for some reason I can't write a lick with headphones on, jog yes, write no.
So, when I got these speakers I was kind of jazzed. Yes, it's one more thing for me to load up into my little car when I hit the highway, but they are worth the effort. I set them up behind my machine, plug in my shorty USB cable and sound-wise I'm good to go. I really like how I can adjust the speakers so that they peak perfectly around the sides of my machine. Black speakers, black iMac, ascetically they were made for each other.
Yes, they don't sound as good as my Bose Wave Radio or the JBL Studio Monitors I have at home, but they sound plenty good to me. Now when I sit down to write those thousand words I try to pull out of myself everyday I rock out to great dinosaur music, Bob Dylan when he was hot, you know Blonde on Blonde and Highway 61 revisited. The Beatles and Stones, Zep too, all sound mighty fine now in cold and sterile motel rooms as I write away. I just love these speakers.

- A good speaker set that could be improved
     By A2CWIYIETNBAK3 on 2008-02-21
There have been a sufficient number of reviews to provide in-depth background information for these speakers. What I can provide is a brief opinion. I found the set-up of these speakers to be simple and straight forward. If you can handle a laptop then you're savvy enough for these. The sound is better than speakers usually provided with a laptop so they are definitely a step up. I hear a slight bias towards the mid-range. The highs are good enough, though slightly reticent for string instruments such as violins. The bass response is a bit weak. Good enough for Classical and Jazz, but probably a bit light for Rock. I assume that this is due to the speaker's relatively anemic 15 Watts total RMS power rating, a little weak for my taste and something that could be improved if greater bottom is to be provided. The speakers lack the punch of my Altec Lansing 2.1 speakers, now 6 years old but rated 80 Watts RMS total. The difference is audible in their sound as well as volume. The Logitech AudioHub speakers are easy on the eyes, with a nice design. All in all, if power is not a major criterion for what you desire in laptop speakers, then these are a good choice. But an increase in power would make them just that much better. If bass response and a strong feeling of live presence is what you desire in your music, then I would choose a different set of speakers.
- You just can't go wrong
     By A2SMH1AB92TP00 on 2007-11-22
I just these speakers after looking at them for a couple of weeks. I have always done well with Logitech and this was no exception. These are great speakers and loud, the bass is good for the size and it handeled a reage of sounds with ease. Punk, rock, metal and rap all sounded good. Movies were amazing compared to the built in speakers I had been listening too. Anyway this was a great investment.
I am using them on a:
HP Pavilion DV6000 15.4" widescreen
Windows Vista Home Premium
I will recommened these to all of my friends, one of which already got them after listening to mine. Great product from Logitech.
- Now all I need is a bigger screen
     By A1FRADBDXQPJJC on 2008-01-20
The sound quality on these small speakers are amazing. These are very easy to hook up to your notebook, looks stylish and most important of all delievers excellent sound quality.
I was always frustrated with the sound provided by my laptop but these speakers fixed the problem. I am not going to get into the technical know-hows of digital sound and all because honestly, I wouldn't know where to begin.
Rest assured that this is a sound purchase and will improve the sound quality for your notebooks. Now, my only qualm is finding something that will give my notebook a bigger screen. One can only hope.
- Solid speaker system from Logitech
     By A1RIQUDE4B8NGX on 2008-01-30
Logitech has always made solid products and the AudioHub is no exception. It is well built and well designed - the 3-port USB hub is great addition as it puts them at your reach, but out of the way regardless of whether you use this with a laptop as intended or under your LCD monitor. The webcam stand is also a nice addition (not usable if these speakers are placed under an LCD monitor).
But it is the sound that you want to know about, isn't it? Like all of the higher-end Logitech speaker systems, the AudioHub delivers good quality sound with sharp highs and good mid-range. Where it falls a little short, but to no surprise, is on the lows; there is only so much bass you can get out of small speakers.
All and all, this is a good sounding speaker system with nice design and construction. if you are looking for this level of speakers with good design and extras, the AudioHub will be a good choice. If you are looking for superior sound quality, then this unit will fall a little short of your expectations.
- Outstanding speakers!
     By A2013JDMPUV6D9 on 2008-02-07
I have three computers in my house, an ancient Windows ME machine, an XP desktop, and a notebook/laptop. I occasionally take my laptop on the road, but mainly use it while sitting on the couch at home watching tv. When not in use I close it and store it on the lower shelf of my coffee table. In my opinion, this type of use does not lend itself to this Logitech speaker system. If I carried my laptop to and from work everyday, and while at home used it at a desk, this speaker system would be ideal. So for this review, please understand that my particular situation was to use this speaker system with a desktop computer.
In use I found these speakers to be remarkable! The sound is very clear, there is a surprising amount of low end (bass), and they do not distort even when turned all the way up. By the way, considering these are computer speakers, turning these all the way up produces very loud, very good quality sound.
The addition of a usb hub is sheer brilliance! Because these speakers connect to my computer via a usb port, and my older computer has limited ports which are hard to reach, I now have the ability to connect the speaker system and then connect up to 3 other devices in a convenient, easy-to-reach place.
Overall, the footprint of these speakers is small compared to the sound they produce. I am thrilled to have them, and would recommend them to anyone. No matter if you need good speakers for your notebook, your desktop, etc., these are outstanding performers!
- Nice sound quality
     By A16RI68PS6T5CA on 2008-02-15
The AudioHub is the first USB-based speaker that I've used. As with many USB items, I figured it would be plug-and-play, ready to go after I plug it in. It wasn't that simple. However, Logitech's quick setup guide made it relatively painless.
I was throwing a party at the office and wanted to put on some entertainment for the kids. I grabbed the AudioHub because it was portable, and it gave me the opportunity to test the clarity and volume. The audio for the movie I played came out crisp, but was lacking some bass (what do you expect out of a compact speaker without a subwoofer?) The volume was a bit too low in a open area, forcing me to raise all the volume controls to the max, and even then it was not that loud (However, I was impressed that I didn't hear any static). However, I understand that it this speaker wasn't designed for that purpose; the volume would be more than sufficient sitting behind your laptop.
The USB hub makes it convenient to keep my external hard drives and devices plugged in. The unit comes with a webcam clip, so you don't have to remove it every time you pack up your laptop.
One thing I would have improved on the unit is the ability to turn the unit off rather than leaving it on or standby.
I recommend this product to people that have limited space on their desk, aren't happy with the sound output of their laptop, and have many USB gadgets to plug-in.
- Speakers, And Forever Hold Your Peace
     By A139ZF7CJVVTJU on 2008-02-18
I'm not really a maverick when it comes to diagnosing the fine points of electronic equipment. Other reviewers here have done ample job of delineating all the technical pros and cons of this little set, so I'll just give you the stance of the Average Joe, pretending for the moment that my name is Joe.
Set-up is, as they say, a breeze. Talk about foolproof. Just plug the thing in, and you're ready to go. My laptop (an HP Pavilion dv9000) has a 17" screen, so the telescopic speakers only extend 3/4ths of the way on either side, and the webcam stand is about half an inch shy of clearing the top edge. A moderately sized novel set under the speaker base solves the webcam problem, and I don't notice much sound reduction from the partially concealed speakers.
The speakers have three USB ports that help clear up some of the cord-clutter both behind the laptop and on the various side ports. The giant orange button, while conveniently tactile, is a little garish for a set with such a sleek design.
The sound is great for its size, although the set's weight and structure don't lend much to mobility. I almost never transport my laptop anywhere (much less to my lap), so this doesn't pose a nuisance to me, although people in the market for something on the go should look elsewhere.
Good sound, good quality, good design. Not great, but certainly good.
- Excellent Sound Quality and Extra USB Ports
     By A1B05INWIDZ74O on 2008-06-25
I just took these speakers out of the box, plugged the USB cable using the included USB extender into my laptop, plugged in its power supply and then turned on my laptop. It automatically set itself up and started working. I must admit that I was amazed at how rich the sounds are that come out of this speaker system.
I had video of a lecture that I could not hear at full volume on my laptop. But now it is like listening to the lecture live with a good quality sound system. And I only have the volume at the 20% level. Even at full volume, which is now much to loud, there is no distortion or hiss. I am very happy to have these.
The AudioHub speaker system features an adjustable one-piece, three-chamber speaker system with an integrated subwoofer. You are able to adjust the speakers position so that they clear the sides of your laptop screen. The volume control/mute button on the AudioHub is lit so you always no when it is not muted. And the mute button turns off the sound without cutting power to the integrated USB hub, which has three built-in Hi-Speed USB ports. So you use one USB port for the speakers and have a two USB port net gain.
- At First Too Quiet, Then I Learned the Secret
     By A14JBDSWKPKTZA on 2008-01-17
This is a complete edit to my original review.
When I first got this I opened the box, installed it, put in a CD in my computer, turned it up and said, "This thing is too quiet" You could barely hear it. Subwoofer, what subwoofer! Then I played with it for awhile, and discovered the secret. You have to turn the volume slider inside of your computer all the way up. Then the Audio Hub sounds great. Does it provide subwoofer thump? No, but It does have a downward facing driver that covers the lows nicely, in addition to the 2 frontward facing tweeters.
So let's get into the reason why the slider has to be set all the way up, and why that does not result in distortion the way it does when you use that setting for your sound card. This is a digital hub. It is fed through your USB cable, not by the line out, on your sound card. Sound cards are digital to analogue converters (DAC) Turn them up, and you get distortion. Turn up the volume slider in your computer when using this digital hub, no distortion. The hub has its own internal DAC, plus pre-amp, and amp, as well as the speakers, plus it throws in a powered, 3 port USB hub, integrated into the side, which makes it super convenient for plugging in often used devices like iPods. So I can turn this hubs, softly lit when on, large volume knob on the side, to levels that are room filling (as long as the internal volume is set all the way up). The sound is a very nice pleasant blend of lows and highs. For the audiophile, without a more expensive, and elaborate system, you will need to spend more to get a better sound. That is the beauty of this system. Let me explain to you why I am tempted to buy another one, especially now that they have the rebate running.
To tell you the truth, I am running this in a desktop system. I have the sound card hooked up to a large stereo in the living room. The big system puts out a lot of sound. Sometimes I am not looking for wall shaking bass when I hear Windows booting up, or during normal listening. So this hub is ideal. I know you can put Y connectors on your sound card, and run 2 different systems, although some would say that it dilutes the signal, but due to the digital signal being sent through a USB cable on this hub, it allows you to toggle between sound sources, from within Control panel. You go into control panel, choose "Sounds and Audio" then "Audio" and you will see a drop down box. One option is the Logitech USB sound hub, and the other is your computers sound card. Depending on which one you want, you choose that one, and then start, or re-start your sound source, whether it is Windows Media Player or whatever, and you will receive sound out of that source. So you can sit back, leave everything plugged in, and choose your sound source, and play away. If I want the big stereo, I pick up the remote control, and hear huge sound. If I feel like that is too much, which happens a lot, actually most of the time, I toggle onto the Logitech audio hub in control panel, and the hub automatically comes on.
With that information in mind, I would say this audio hub is a very nice addition to your arsenal. Set properly, as mentioned here, it fills the room with sound. Set with the standard default half slider position you can all but hear it. I think that a lot of people that use it will be just as disgusted with it when they first plug it in as I was. Then when they learn the computer slider volume setting, they will be surprised that something they hated, turned into a rose.
That is the part that is really ashame about this device. Logitech, knowing that notebooks typically have weak sound cards, they decided to skip the sound card altogether, and create a USB connection directly to your pure digital source; in this case your CD player. The very thing that relieves the weakness is the thing that is causing so many to be disdainful about the sound coming out of it. It is the most misunderstood soft drink. :-) Once you top out that internal slider, you are going to be smiling from ear to ear, and with the rebate going on, making this a very inexpensive way to acquire a digital hub, it's a no brainer. Need more USB connections? The built in 3 port powered USB hub is worth the purchase price after rebate alone. (Yes the hub has a powered converter that plugs in the wall)
You know how you give the kids a bunch of expensive toys, and they play with the box. Well I have more expensive stereo gear then I care to admit, and this hub is what I use all of the time; just the right sound, and at just the right sound levels. I know those who have grown frustrated over the sound levels without upping the internal volume setting, which is normally right on your task bar, will be bashing me for saying anything nice about the hub, but believe me, this is one very nice sound system, that for a compact, attractive, well designed unit, puts out a lot of sound.
- Clean and integrated 2.1 speaker system

The packaging was appealing and innovative, almost similar to something Apple would use for their products.
The sound quality from the speakers was very good but lacks tone, treble, and bass adjustment. The highs don't sound "high" enough, but the low and mid-range notes are quite audible.
The entire speaker assembly plugs into a USB port on your computer and replaces your sound card. In XP, I noticed that the computer recognizes the AudioHub as a "sound card" instead of my Audigy.
The positive aspect of using a USB interface is that you no longer have to manually turn off the speakers when you leave the room (something I often do) because they shut off as soon as the PC is turned off. You do get 3 additional powered USB ports with the AudioHub.
The AudioHub was designed for Notebooks, but I noticed that it required a large piece of real estate in order to use it with a laptop. The only way you can use it as intended is to use your laptop on a very large desk, like one you would have in an office. I use my laptop on a small table since the whole idea of a laptop is portability and compactness. Instead, I am using the AudioHub on my gaming PC which works out quite nicely.
Pros: The subwoofer does a decent job of producing the lows, while the woofers perform well for the mid-range notes. The innovative design of the speaker makes it very sleek and attractive, taking up less space than other 2.1 speaker systems.
Cons:
The high notes seem to be missing. While playing some games, the lack of the high notes made it an awkward experience. For instance, in Race 07 WTCC, I was expecting to hear the shrill sound of a 4 cylinder engine sprinting at 8000 RPM. I could hear it with my Creative 2.1 speakers that has a tone adjustment knob while the Audigy could be adjusted for treble and balance. None of these 3 adjustments are available with the AudioHub. The size of the AudioHub makes it a semi-permanent desktop resident. I even had trouble locating a spot on my desk to use it with the gaming PC! The satellite speakers are attached to the woofer unit so you are limited in mounting configurations. If the speakers were detached, it would offer more flexibility.
Overall: As a replacement sound "board" for a notebook audio system, the AudioHub does a fantastic job. It even works extremely well on a desktop PC. However, it is quite a large unit so make sure your workspace has the room to accommodate it and do not expect to bring these speakers with you on a trip. Consider these speakers a permanent attachment to a docking station. Logitech has improved by leaps and bounds for PC accessories and I am not disappointed with the AudioHub.
- AudioHub Speakers

These speakers work really well! First of all, the set is ridiculously easy to install. Just plug in the power, plug in the USB, and you're golden. The speakers basically start working right away.
I use the speakers with my laptop, but I don't think I would ever carry them anywhere. They come in one stream-lined (but long and difficult to carry), long set, and they can adjust to lengthen or shorten, based on the width of your screen. The speaker covers are made of very light mesh material (not the plastic or metal mesh) and probably tear very easily. These are not the sort of speakers you'd take with you on a trip. But if you use your computer in mainly a stationery setting, or if you just wanted to use the speakers to boost sound on a movie or a CD, then I think they work great.
Included with the speakers are a USB cord extension (which is pretty useful, as the cord that comes attached to the speakers is really short), a power cord, and a webcam bracket.
Overall, I don't think you're getting top-end sound with these speakers. But they're less than $100, they're easy to set up, and they are a vast improvement over the built-in speakers on any laptop I've encountered.
- Nice sounding package for laptop users

For those who use their laptop computers largely in a fixed location, the Logitech AudioHub speakers would be a worthwhile addition.
The most important consideration, of course, is sound quality. I am not an audiophile and so most likely don't even know the nuances one would listen for. To my untrained ear, however, these speakers sound excellent. The bass is somewhat lacking, but is fuller than I've heard from many other external speakers, including some with dedicated bass units. The AudioHub's internal amplifier can drive the sound to more than room filling levels without distortion. There is an easy to adjust volume control, but no tone controls. I found using the equalizer function on WinAmp brought up the bass response nicely, but still not to floor shaking levels. Overall, for music and movies, the AudioHub delivers a very nice experience, certainly (and expectedly), much better than the notebooks internal speakers.
Both slick and sleek appropriately describe the unit's design. The main housing is of a trapezoid shape, which is quite pleasing to the eye. Each end of the unit extends to accomodate wide laptops and to provide greater separation between the units. The front of the unit is covered in a black fabric which I hope doesn't become a nasty dust catcher.
The main unit sits about an inch off the surface which not only minimizes vibration and creep, but also allows cable passthrough, should such be necessary for power cables and so on. The unit has three unpowered USB ports built-in and connects to the laptop with a single USB cable, allowing for quick disconnect if you want to take your laptop with you. An AC adaptor is provided. There is no provision for battery power nor is there an on/off switch.
Taken altogether, the Logitech AudioHub is a clever piece of design that works better than external speakers with all their cables. The sound is good, though audiophiles will probably find the lack of powerful bass response undesirable. The provision of the three USB ports will serve the needs of many people.
A very nice piece of work overall. Logitech is really getting better and better at merging design and function in their product line.

- Does Everything I Wanted and More!!!

Most of the reviews of this product have been more elaborate than mine, giving a detailed account about the performance. Mine is going to be much simpler: They do exactly what I wanted them to do - enhance the sound on my laptop. I had my granddaughter over the other day and she wanted to play a DVD on the laptop as grandpa was watching something else on TV. We tried but the sound was so soft we could hardly hear anything -- certainly not good enough to keep a four-year-old's interest for a 90-minute movie. So I knew I needed something better. When these became available via the Vine program, I snatched them up. Not only do they perform as good as I need them to, the quality of the sound for playing CDs or something from iTunes is top-notch. And I didn't lose a USB port, I gained two. How great is that? They were very easy to install as well. As far as portability is concerned, no I won't be carrying them around the house, but they are certainly perfect for my little desk and perfectly fine to take with us on a trip. I really couldn't ask for anything more. I am certainly a happy camper. Highly recommended.
- Great sound from these 'desktop' speakers for a laptop
     By A3CWEK9HY2VPDL on 2008-01-30
Like many others, I tend to store my music collection on my computer in MP3 format, and usually just listen to music on the computer (I haven't joined the IPOD club yet). So I was excited to see this product, which promised great quality sound for the computer. And I wasn't disappointed with the Logitech AudioHub. The two 2" tweeters and one 3" sub-woofer deliver great sound from such a small package, although I've been putting up with the marginal sound from my built-in laptop speakers for a while now. Setup and installation was simple, just plug it into an outlet (the speakers do not run off the power from the laptop) and plug the USB into the computer - no disks - just plug and play. It should be clear that these speakers are not what I would call portable. I think they would do best sitting in a place where you usually listen to music and where you can plug your laptop into them, with only occasional trips elsewhere. The tweeters are on the ends which extend out just past the edges of my laptop.
I'm not high-tech enough yet to use the web-cam stand, but it's there if you need it. Also included are short and long USB cables, with places to wrap them on the back. I haven't tried it but I imagine you could plug them into a desktop computer. There are also extra USB ports on the speakers in case you need them. The volume knob lights up when it's on and the unit shuts off when you turn the computer off. My only concern is the thin mesh material covering the front of the tweeters, which feels like it could tear very easily (it comes with plastic over them for shipping with logos showing not to touch the fronts). But overall, I love these speakers and the rich sound they produce.
- A nice device that produces the sound you deserve...

The AudioHub from Logitech is a great speaker system. It's a jet black system and comes with a hookup for your camera if you want it mounted above your computer. Since I have a laptop with a built-in camera, I didn't connect the "crane" to the speaker frame, decreasing its profile. It looks nice. It sounds better.
The smallish speakers slide out to fit beyond the sides of your laptop, and the sound quality is clear and, if you want it, very loud. Surprising loud! The coverings over the speakers seem fragile (so be careful when you are pulling them out; they may be more resilient than I imagine, but I don't want them to tear) but, apart from that, it's a very sturdy system.
It was a little hard to get my system initially hooked up. I have a MacBook and it didn't work immediately. I looked at the handy-dandy easy instructions and squinted to read the troubleshooting guide (Mac users are notorious for plugging things in and expecting them to work). After following the instructions (this time), I was able get it all set up and working, but now every time I unhook it I have to adjust my computer settings again. This is kind of annoying, but it really only takes a second. What I have to do is go to system preferences, click on sound, and switch it from internal speakers to AudioHub. It automatically goes back to the default when unplugged.
The USB cord is short, but it comes with a 4 foot extension. The only problem with this is that the cord that is connected to the AudioHub can easily disconnect from the extension if you snag it lightly. Use some tape to hold it if it bothers you.
If the Logitech AudioHub Notebook Speakers set is taking up your computer's only USB socket, no worries. It has three more USB sockets on the back side. The power cord is long so you don't have to be right next to the outlet. But wouldn't a battery system be nice!
I used this initially for music, but I found myself really liking it for movies. So why wouldn't I use a pair of external speakers instead? I have a pair of external speakers for my desktop, and I could get another pair for my notebook. It's nice having choices, and this speaker system is nice and tidy, part of my MacBook's "natural footprint" and with a low profile.
Overall, it's a nice device that produces the sound you deserve.
- Gives My Ears All the Colors of the Rainbow
     By A2G1NN5JIWYC9Z on 2008-02-19
I have a MacBook Pro that is chucky jammed full of music, dinosaur music mostly, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, even lots of Led Zeppelin. However, I love the blues too, listen to Billy Holliday a lot and I'm ashamed to say after a year or so, I've gotten pretty used to the speakers that came with the MBP.
When I first got the machine I thought I was going to be a road warrior, but it didn't work out that way. I spend most of my computing time in a pretty sterile upstairs room, because I don't like any distractions other than my music.
Then I got these speakers. They were very easy to set up and the mix of Apple brushed aluminum and Logitech black look very nice. Plus the extra USB ports that come with these speakers are very handy. But the coup de grace is the sound. I just don't know how I spent all that time listening to Mick and the boys on my MBP's little speakers. For me, Logitech has opened up a whole new world in sound when I work.
I know, I could go downstairs and listen to my surround sound system if I really wanted to listen to music. I could even take my MBP with me, work on my sofa, but there are too many distractions for me to do that. And yes, the sound out of these Logitech speakers doesn't match my expensive Yamaha system, but it's not supposed to. It's supposed to be just what it is, good sounding, good looking speakers that enhance your laptop system and that's exactly what these babies do. They fill my sterile room with sound, making my music a joy for my ears. The walls may be white, but the sound out of these speakers gives my ears all the colors of the rainbow and then some.
