Customer Reviews

  • Outstanding printer

    By A1BLDIJ8VJKUZZ on 2007-12-07
I bought this to replace an Epson Stylus C86, which ceased to deliver adequate color images after a year's use (using only Epson cartridges) and did not provide timely or adequate customer service when requested. This Canon (it's my first Canon product ever) is outstanding -- outstanding value & outstanding image quality.

  • excellent fast printer--but some difficulties setting up with mac

    By AY9542FC9J8KO on 2008-01-08
An excellent, fast and very cheap printer. Works well even with a wireless router, but I had some difficulty getting the printer to work (Use primarily a MacBrook Pro). I found that when first trying to print, it is important not to print from iphoto, as the printer will not set up properly. First print a normal word document, or email with this printer (it can be selected as a new printer "bonjour") and then try printing photos. Received truly first rate support, however, from Canon.

  • Black Ink Smears

    By A245HABH74RAO1 on 2007-11-29
I bought this printer from CompUSA 10/15/07. I installed it on my iMac and it worked fine. When I changed operating system to Leopard I had to re-install the printer software but the printer still worked well both as a photoprinter and a text printer. Then about 11/20/07 the black ink smeared whenever a heavy line or bold type was printed. I performed all the maintenance procedures given in the Pixma iP3500 manual. Test prints of color all looked fine but the black ink test prints had small about of smearing, but when I printed real document the black in smeared. At the time of purchase I bought a CompUSA Printer Express Exchange Replacement Plan and they are sending me a new printer in about two weeks. Not too express. I hope the new one will work longer than this one.

  • Canon is the best - can buy generic ink

    By A17E56H9AGERO4 on 2008-01-18
This is my second Canon Pixma printer. Love how reliable they are and pretty fast for an inexpensive printer. Best part is you can buy generic ink replacement wayyyyyyyy cheaper.

  • Excellent performance for the price.

    By A7WU6CSOWTQHW on 2008-03-27
I researched document/photo printers before deciding on this model. Amazed at the reported quality for the low price, I was even more surprised when I began to use the printer. Business documents turned out equal in quality to my old HP laser. Color documents were excellent also. I have no idea how equipment of this quality can be produced for such a low price. I sincerely hope that my purchase is not supporting sweatshops in Asia.

  • Canon Printer Review
    By A2SNFDMBKQADAO on 2008-04-24
The printer works well except for one thing which I don't like. It takes FOREVER to print something once you click on the print ICON!! At times I don't know if it registered the request to print or not. It takes FOREVER and is maddening.

  • Decent Photo printer
    By ALON7JI8U94T2 on 2007-12-11
I just had it for a couple weeks. Didn't really print anything other than just documents since I'm in college. Pretty easy to install and setup. The black print quality seems pretty decent. It also has a cool design. Overall, I like it.

  • Cheap but...............................
    By A38BYNNJPP3HED on 2008-02-09
This printer may be cheap, but watch out when you buy replacement ink! It'll cost you more than the printer itself! I returned mine, and bought a Canon i900d off eBay for around $90.00. The ink only cost $25.00 at the most for 2 cartridges of each color. Don't waste your money on this one! I lost money buying it because it had free shipping, because when I returned it I lost about $15.00 on it.

  • Often Stops Printing due to Paper Jam Error Message
    By A2C1S69J353Y6E on 2008-02-10
Excellent value and very satisfactory output. However, stops printing after every few pages due to "paper jam in output slot" However, there is no paper jam. Resumes easily but requires user attention to finish every job. I've seen other reviews indicating the same.

  • Love it
    By A3C8QOZ1KP1FUQ on 2008-02-18
This is a very good everyday printer for fast and good quality prints. I like the fact that it has separate cartridges for each ink. However the price for the replacement ink is high.

  • Canon Printer
    By A2O2IYXW6E8TEY on 2008-02-20
This printer would probably be OK for most people. However, when it arrived I looked at the documentation and discovered it did not work with heavy card stock. That information was not available on-line. Since we do a lot of printing on card stock I never connected the printer. It's for sale.

  • Wonderful!
    By A2JX2PY1LR21S5 on 2008-03-24
This is a great printer1 I am so pleased with it! Great deal! Using this for edible images for cookies and cake and it works perfect.

  • Mac: Difficult to Manage
    By AAG2DQBRGYZT4 on 2008-01-19
The printer itself is a little more difficult to manage on a Mac - the utilities are buried deeper.

After aligning the heads, I still see streaks on the page (spaces between lines of printing). I will keep experimenting, but the streaks only appear at the end of a 4x6 print.

The contrast of the printer is low. This produces pictures which appear washed out and light.

For printing, I am using Adobe Lightroom on Mac OS X 10.4.

    EDITED TO ADD:
The issue with streaks appears to be when I attempt to use borderless printing. Once I use border printing, it works. What's even more odd is that the colors and contrast are completely different depending on which mode I use.

Based on these new settings, I would increase my rating to a 4 star. I am no longer having problems with streaks or contrast; but the control panel for the printer is buried within a Mac's setup menus.

  • Canon makes great inkjet printers
    By AL727RWERMAZU on 2008-04-06
This is my second Canon inkjet printer and I love it just as much as the previous one I owned. The printing of text is clean and crisp as are the photos it makes. I'm a very satisfied buyer.

  • love this printer
    By A3MUAWSRB5EEWC on 2008-05-05
This is a great printer. I have purchased 4 Canon printers and they are all good. This one does an excellent job of printing photos, and the ink lasts forever.

  • Canon Photo Printer
    By A3PRU2OKQUIBUM on 2008-02-08
This printer is easy to set up and quick to print. Generally handles color adequately, but seems to have difficulty generating photo accurate bright colors towards the edges of the photos. Experiementing with the many printing options available has not resulting in solving this problem. In fact, I was hard pressed to notice any difference in results regardless of the print settings! All in all, I won't throw this printer in the trash, but I doubt I will buy another one like this when it dies.

  • Canon Printer
    By A299A7AGHAT17G on 2008-04-21
EXCELLENT and the price was fantabulous. If I had known this I would have replaced the HP LONG LONG Ago. It runs quiet, quick and produces excellent copies. For less than the price of the HP Cartridges I got this Cannon with the INK Supply too. Happy camper here.

  • Quick & Easy on a Mac
    By A2OBT6ADIEQ2C6 on 2008-08-27
The printer arrived, I installed the software on my iMac, the ink cartridges in the printer, selected the printer on my Mac and printed. Couldn't have been easier!

  • Canon printer
    By A2SRI8JHOSGOIG on 2008-09-12
This is a terrific little printer for a very affordable price. It works well with Vista, which was a problem with my older HP printer. The photos turn out very well--it's also a fairly quick printer.

  • Canon Pixma iP3500 Photo Injet Printer
    By A2U693LNE7GXOZ on 2008-09-21
The Canon iP3500 operates quickly, reliably and quietly. The separate ink tanks and print head features allow very economical printing. You merely replace the color ink tank you need. The separate inkjet printhead is easily cleaned and reused. The photo quality is very good with various standard paper sizes offered. I especially appreciate its print speed, cost of operation and efficient paper handling. I have used laser, dot matrix and various inkjet printers. If you only have a choice of one printer, you cannot go wrong with this printer.

  • Canon's got it goin' on!
    By A3P69J9Q6AP22X on 2008-04-17
Excellent printer for this price range. Replaced an older bubble jet from Canon and I did not have to remove the cords from the PC. Just unplugged the old printer and plugged in this one, ran the set cd and was spared the crawl on my back under my desk! Individual ink tanks are the way to go. If you print lots of photo's of outdoor landscape/sky the ability to replace just the cyan is an advantage, both cost and waste! 5 Stars!

BTW:Paid for expedited shipping and it arrived a day late...Amazon refunded the shipping immediately! Nice!!!

  • Easy does it
    By A89ZM9F1NWQ0K on 2008-07-17
I bought this printer about a month ago because I couldn't get my old Canon to work with my Vista computer. I got this model because it would fit on my crowded desk. I found it very easy to set up and was even able to use the plugs from my old Canon on this one, so I didn't have to do the "find the wire dance." It comes with a CD I haven't yet read, so I don't know all the bells and whistles, but it is doing quite adequate plain printing
and is a bit faster than my S520.

  • Good........But!
    By A36X0V7A8BSPAM on 2008-07-17
This printer works as advertised (as it should) however it takes entirely too long to print. Actually the time in printing is entirely acceptable, BUT the time from hitting the start print key until printing begins is very excessive. Printer makes every sound I have ever heard a printer make and when you think it is starting to print it starts all over again. and again.

  • Good Printer
    By A1ZD1Q2J8CJHMW on 2008-07-25
I bought this printer for my mother in law and she loves it she has had no trouble with it at all. Its a little loud but prints very good and prints great photos. This is the third canon printer I have bought on Amazon 1 for me 1 for my daughter and 1 for my mother in law and we like them all very much. I won't buy another brand.

  • Paper jams and limited functionality with PDF files
    By A1Y8LG9EJX2YBZ on 2008-07-31
This printer fit perfectly into a cubby in my computer desk, as long as I chose to use only the front paper tray. Frequent paper jams from the first day were just the beginning. Whenever trying to print an Acrobat PDF file, it claims to be "out of paper" until you pull the printer out, put paper into the rear tray, and press "Resume". Customer support said "This can be evident if the overall settings for the driver are used by most applications except the one in question". So it's Adobe's fault? PDF is when of the most common file formats on the planet and Canon couldn't write the driver to work correctly with Acrobat? Don't offer me two paper feed trays and tell me one won't work. Support went on to say that I would need to go into the Acrobat "print properties" and tell it (again, every time) to print from the front tray. This my first and last Canon printer.
