Baggu
Called the "It bag of the future" by Teen Vogue, this stylish and ridiculously practical bag (sold in packages of 3 and 6) is one easy step in helping save the planet. Baggu ("bag" in Japanese) is machine washable, and folds up into it's own pouch small enough to tuck into your handbag or pocket. Made of super-tough ripstop nylon in bright, fun colors, it's the re-usable bag that's eco-chic.
Photos courtesy of Dan Martensen.

Why Baggus are so great? You want to replace your old friends, the paper & plastic bags, with something that does their job without creating needless waste or harming the environment. Using one Baggu for one year replaces 300 to 700 disposable bags.

  • One Baggu holds the contents of 2 to 3 plastic grocery bags. Six bags can hold a whole cart full of groceries.

  • Baggu Bag handles are the perfect length: you can hold them in your hand, on your forearm, or over your shoulder.

  • They are made from super strong rip-stop nylon (holds 25 lbs) so they are light (2 oz) and compactible. They fold into a flat 5 by 5 inch pouch that easily slips in a purse or pocket. That way they are always handy when you need them.

  • Baggu bags have a nice big gusset in the bottom so they will sit flat when they are filled (good for eggs & milk.)

.

Smart Design
Baggu was designed by mother-daughter team Joan and Emily in California. They both saw the need for a better reusable bag, and after dozens of prototypes, came up with a solution that makes using reusable bags stylish, practical and easy.

Baggu is great whether you shop on foot or drive to the store, you always need to have a bag or two that fold up small and can be carried in your purse, ready for an unexpected errand. .
.

We use lightweight, hard working fabrics to make bags that will perform years of service in all of our daily toting tasks: groceries, pharmacy purchases, gifts, and books, and pet food, and clothes and ... All the tons of things we find ourselves accepting a disposable bag to bring home.

Changing our own shopping habits is one small thing we can do to make a difference. We hope you feel good every time you use your BAGGU.

Plastic Bags & the Planet
The average family brings home 1,000 bags every year. Most of those bags end up in land fills. That really adds up - 100 billion plastic bags are sent to landfill in the US each year.

In landfills, it can take up to 1000 years for a bag to decompose. Plastics don't biodegrade, they photo-degrade, breaking down into tiny toxic pieces that contaminate soil and water or harm wildlife.

Every time you use your Baggu bag instead of plastic or paper you are doing something good.

Do your part for the environment, stylishly, with Baggu's reusable shopping tote. This fashionably PC solution, constructed of strong, durable rip-stop nylon, is also cared for easily: Just pop it in the wash and dry it on the line. Each bag in this six-piece set holds the contents of 2-3 plastic bags, and comes with a 5" by 5" storage pouch.

  • Better than the photos.

    By A3CVE3UIT97S73 on 2007-11-02
These bags are strong and well-designed. Fit perfectly in your hand, even when full of heavier groceries. And the colors look more vibrant in person than they do in the photos. Great idea, well made.

  • Chic, easy and environmentally friendly!

    By A1B1U3XOH18K59 on 2007-11-04
Baggus are easy to use and very practical. They're a very well thought out product. You can carry them over your shoulder and on your arm. The thick handles won't hurt your hand, and they're easy to fold back into the pouch. I always have at least one on me and use it all the time.

  • A cart full of groceries fits perfectly in six of these sacks.

    By ACAWPZ3OM1OT6 on 2008-03-11
First off, I have to admit, I love these bags more than I thought I would. So much so that I use them for everything now: groceries, library books, gym clothes. I just keep them in my car and haul them in and out. However, I never use their little pocket-sized packaging. It's just kind of a pain to get them in and out of those things since I use them so often. Perhaps if I walked to the store folding them up would be more convenient. Even better, would be if they redesigned them so that the small holders were part of the bag, so it wasn't something extra to lose.

  • $40 for 6 bags???

    By A3NWN21HH5CEWZ on 2008-04-20
I am sorry but in this day and age of eco-friendly bags, there is no reason for BAGGU to charge people $38 for these 6 simple bags. There are so many other bag options out there - most of which are $2 a bag, not $6.50 each! During these economic times, how can the average person afford $40 in bags when they can get the plastic or paper ones free. You need to encourage going green, not discourage it. Shame on you BAGGU for adding some bright colors to basic reusable bags and then price gouging your customers for a severe profit.

  • Practical Perfection

    By AEZMG9EMHBN7I on 2007-11-04
    Baggu bags are perfect!

In fact, there is only one bad thing about them: I can't take one out at check-out line or register without the teller wanting to know exactly what I am packing my items in!

  • Perfect Except
    By AKNZ3DBXVZ5QH on 2008-03-26
The Baggu totes hold the equivalent of 2 regular plastic grocery bags. Roomy, durable, easy on the hands. They do well what they are designed to do. My complaints have more to do with convenience. The fabric is very slippery so carrying more than one (folded in it's stuff sack) Baggu at a time usually meant dropping one or more so I have attached caribeaners to all my totes so I can easily carry them without dropping any. I have also attached the stuff sack to the tote so I won't have to deal with that either. Because these totes are designed to fold flat to fit into the stuff sack, they have to be folded which I find inconvenient. I was choosing between the Chico totes and these and had I realized that the stuff sack wasn't attached to the tote I would have purchased the Chico brand whose stuff sack is attached. The Chico's also have a caribeaner to attach to a purse, etc. The Chicos look like you can just stuff the tote into the stuff sack like you would a sleeping bag. But then you have more of a cylinder shaped object which wouldn't fit in your pocket as easily as the Baggu. My next purchase will be the Chicos unless Baggu redesigns their totes with the stuff sack attached and a caribeaner or a similiar form of attaching the totes together for convenience.

  • Bring it down Baggu!
    By A1CDHEZSJU8RM7 on 2008-04-24
It's upsetting to me that being green has come with such a heavy price tag. And Baggu is no different. We don't all live NOT caring about price tags. Some of us care about a price tag and the environment and want a reusable, stylish, affordable bag. You have the stylish part down and the reusable, but you Baggu are not an affordable bag. $38.00 bucks for some bright nylon?! Bring it down your not that cool! If you have a dollar store in your city or town. Take a look inside. Many offer stylish, good quality, large, affordable reusable shopping totes for the fraction of the cost. $1.00!!! At that price you can buy 20 and give them as gifts. I am a stylish chick that has no shame helping the environment at an affordable price. Let's make being green affordable.

It's cute, strong + serves a million purposes. I love my BAGGU bags. I would highly recommend at least one in every color.

  • To pricey
    By A2KM4KV1YJ5WXV on 2008-03-25
i like this concept and think that bags like this should be required as all that plastic being discarded is really messing with our environment in the long run....However i think $38 for 12 ounces of nylon is crazy expensive. these should be priced at around $10 -$12. remember companies. we want good products at reasonable prices. We are not here to make your great grand children rich. the modern consumer is getting to smart for the old ways of doing business. we know you pay foreign labor 10 cent and hour and still charge us the same high prices as you used to. We will learn to walk away until you join the rest of us at a normal income lvl

  • Almost perfect
    By AV81JRX7RKWX0 on 2008-03-16
I bought these about a month ago, and I have loved finding all the new uses for them! I carry them in my purse, keep a couple in the car. They're almost everything they're advertised to be.

My one complaint is that they most definitely DO NOT fit into the bag holders used by the grocery store checkers. I find myself wanting to apologize to the checkers, because it really does make their job harder. Most of them handle it in stride, but it does sometimes result in a slightly grumpy experience.

  • Baggus Rock
    By A11ULCVY8CX5WV on 2008-01-20
I have had my baggus for a few months now, and I am very pleased. I use one everyday for carrying my lunch and books to and from work, and whenever I go to any store. They hold up well and are very sturdy. They hold so much more than you would think from looking at the pictures. I have gotten many compliments on the bags and people asking where they could get them, too. They fold up small, and I keep two in my purse and two in my car. I think the best part is that there's no more plastic bag collection threatening to overtake a corner of my kitchen, and I feel like I'm making a positive change for the environment.

  • almost perfect
    By A2HVQEFWAFJLGP on 2008-03-15
I must have misread the decription, but I though the bag folded into itself, which would have been the perfect bag. So instead, I keep the little pouch inside the big bag while in use so I know where to find it when its time to fold it up and put it away.

I haven't used my own bags for groceries and other shopping items, but I do most of the time now because of these bags. They are compact while folded, but nice and roomy for my "stuff" after I shop. Also I can put the long handles over my shoulder, which allows me to carry more bags at a time.

  • GREEN WORKS
    By AYBUHFBJGUVBR on 2008-03-04
THE MATERIAL WAS NICE. THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE IS THAT THESE BAGS ARE NOT BIG OR DEEP ENOUGH.

  • Happy Bags
    By A2UCTR4PRUISVD on 2008-02-09
These reusable grocery bags are the best. They're not expensive like other reusable bags. They are very nice looking and comes in great colors and they are surprisingly strong. It can hold two to three plastic bags worth of groceries; sometimes more depending on what you put in it; but you will need to be careful of how much you put in it because then you will have a hard time carrying the bag. Plus they also fit into your back pocket or you can carry it in your purse. The bag fits into its own little sack that can be put into your purse. I carry at least two with me because so far I have needed them for some things. Plus another great thing about these bags is that they do not take up space like the plastic bags do and they don't tear quite so easily unlike the plastic bags. I've also noticed that I use less bags when I grocery shop than what I would normally use when using plastic bags from the grocery store. For example I use about 6 - 9 bags in resusable bags instead of using about 12 - 20 plasitc bags from the grocery store. To me that's a big save in cost of making those plastic bags and then immediately throwing them away after emptying the contents from them. Try these reusable bags you will not be disappointed.

  • Something easy to do to help the environment!
    By A325RAE3JJRAPI on 2008-02-09
I could not be more satisfied with these bags. They are so easy to keep handy, folded up in their little pouches. I keep a couple in my purse, the rest in the car. WE ALL NEED TO DO WHAT WE CAN FOR THE ENVIRONMENT. For the price of a dinner out you can get a set of these bags. Store baggers can put the handles over the holder for plastic bags and fill as usual. Only these hold more than plastic bags and are more comfortable to carry. Some stores will also pay you to BYOB, but you should do it anyway!

  • Pretty great bags, not a nuisance for baggers at the store
    By A25PLD37QTJNVE on 2008-02-20
I gave these bags their first run today at a Safeway store during rush hour today. The bagger slipped the handles over the rack holding the plastic bags normally used for bagging groceries, and filled the Baggu bags right up without fumbling. This was a relief for me - with long lines and a rush hour crowd, I certainly didn't want to be a nuisance to cashier/bagger or the people waiting behind me at checkout.

The bags are strong, have a similar shape to plastic shopping bags, and are therefore easy for shoppers as well as baggers to work with. Designing the bags with rip-stop fabric was also a smart choice.

The best part was the awareness it raised in the cashier and the folks in line behind me - ah - there is a quality alternative to using plastic bags.

There is room for improvement though - the little pouch that comes with the bag is more of a nuisance than anything. It's pretty easy to lose and I would have preferred to see the pouch attached to the bag, so the bag could be folded into the pouch. Despite this small annoyance, I do recommend this well-made product.

  • Almost perfect*
    By A3N852U9JAWPDM on 2008-04-18
These are wonderful bags. The fabric is very nice... vibrant colors and wrinkle free fabric. Only one thing would make these better. The pouch that the bag folds into should be attached to the bag. I am always concerned that I will lose one. Otherwise they are convenient for carrying in your handbag or glove compartment.

  • Reusable bags
    By A2SM0MKI0ENIIN on 2008-07-28
The biggest flaw with these bags is unlike the bags from reusablebags.com the bag is seperate from the pouch it comes in. The bags on reusable bags simply fold into a pouch which is part of the bag so you cannot lose the little bag it comes in. With that one innovation it renders this bag 3stars and the other bag 5 stars. Not to mention they are 1/2 the size. Acme bags are a winner for me.

  • Great Tote
    By ALN5T70WZKLWA on 2008-02-08
Got these yesterday, and used them today. They're terrific; even the cashier liked them; saying they were easier to pack than their plastic bags. The wide handles are easy on your hands, and they're roomy and sturdy enough to hold 2 gallons of milk. 6 bags held , 1 carton half n half, 1 pint whipping cream, 1 loaf of bread, 1 pkg hot dog buns, 1 pkg hamburger buns, 1 loaf Italian bread, 5 Deli Creations, 3 boxes of cereal, 2 boxes of oatmeal squares, 1 bunch bananas, 5 plums, 5 necterines, 1 pkg hot dogs, 1 box sugar, 1 pkg cream cheese, 2 pkg Swiss Miss pudding, 2 cans dog food, and 2 gallons of milk. There was plenty of room for more stuff in 3 of the bags, so they really do hold a lot.

After unpacking them, I folded all but one back up, put them in their pouch and put the 5 pouches in one bag, to keep in the car. I guess you could just bunch them all back in to one bag, but by keeping them in a pouch, you can just grab one and slip it in your purse or pocket for those one bag trips.

  • Very Sturdy

These bags are great and well worth the money. I use one on a daily basis as my gym bag.

    High quality construction.

  • Great bags! Love them!
    By ADGIFMSXOX7T2 on 2008-04-06
these are really great, they fit nicely in my purse until I need them. They hold a little more than a regular plastic bag. the 6 pack is usually just enough for my weekly shopping trip for a family of four. They also are good to take to Walmart and other stores like that so you dont get the plastic bags for anything!! toys and household items can be transported in them too. the possibilities are limit less they have a strong wieght compacity!

  • Great Buy
    By A1A0A2FBE6U6A on 2008-04-12
These bags are great. All six fit in my purse without a problem when they are folded and secured in their pouches. This ameliorates my old problem of forgetting my totes in the other family car or at home! These are very sturdy and easy to clean. There are no seams between the handle and the rest of the bag, so they do not tear easily. I definitely recommend purchasing these bags. I feel better shopping with them.

  • I love these bags
    By A2OHDW9CBEXWV0 on 2008-05-15
Look, I know they're not cheap. You can buy reusable bags for a lot less money. That said, these carry a lot more stuff than supermarket bags, they have gusseted bottoms so they can sit flat when you load them up. They're super light weight, they fold up small enough that you can stick them in your back pocket and they look really, really good. They also clean easily and due to the wide straps, are really comfortable to carry, even when full and heavy.

For me, the problem with a lot of the reusable bags out there is that (a) the material is often horrible, (b) they are too big when folded, (c) they're really, really ugly. Stupid patterns and slogans proclaiming what an awesome person you are for trying to be a little more earth-friendly. It's ridiculous.

I often give these as gifts to friends and they love them.

  • Great Substitution for Paper or Plastic
    By A297YGMUA9JL9Z on 2008-08-20
These bags are a great substitution for the traditional paper or plastic bags at retail stores. I typically spend $150 or so per trip to the grocery store, and I have no problem fitting my cartful of groceries into six of these bags. They're thin but relatively sturdy, and they're small enough to stash in my purse when I'm not using them.

I dislike the pouches that the bags fit into, however; I wish they were attached. I'm afraid I'm going to lose one of them.

Overall, a great buy. The price is worth the feeling that you're doing your part to help the environment.

  • not quite right
    By A1982F47S07RJR on 2008-09-06
The bag is solidly constructed. I'll be dust before these babies give it up.
They work great for carrying cds. Lunch.Work-out clothes. Pretty much everything except what I bought them for, groceries.
They do not hang well off the plastic bag hooks at the store. They are too long. And the handle loop is too large. And forget trying to pack the bag with it just sitting on the counter, you need three hands. The carry packet they come with is useless to keep them stored in. Just like a map, they don't fold back up the way you found them without a struggle:} I'll use the little pouch for traveling supplies, batteries or jewelry. I am still looking for the perfect reusable grocery sack. But, for miscellaneous uses they work fine. Rather expensive for a CD, junk carrier. So for my purposes, which was groceries, they are a disappointment. So only two stars.

  • Great bags!
    By A3LEUVE6BOKJRN on 2008-01-25
These bags are great. I carry one in my purse folded in its little pouch, and it has come in handy in several situations. I anticipate using them a lot when the grocery stores start charging for their plastic grocery bags. Good for me and good for the environment. Make Al Gore proud and buy this product. I bought them in red in the six-pack, and they're cute, fun, and make a great gift.

  • Great Bags!
    By ADZL992DOUB7L on 2008-02-12
I love these bags! They were inexpensive, yet are very durable. I get compliments on them wherever I go. The best part is, I don't have to deal with any of those annoying plastic bags anymore. The 6 bags easily hold a week's worth of groceries for my family of 4.

  • Baggu Resuable Totes
    By AQGNQELIP58QB on 2008-02-14
I received the Baggu 6 pack in Colbalt blue (loved the color) as a gift. They are really nice. I put 2 in my purse, 3 in my vehicle, and I'm keeping one in the house (they fit right in my pocket for when I go walking). It really came in handy when I was visiting with a friend and she had stuff for me to take. I pulled out my baggu and everything fit it nicely. She was impressed. Easy to carry and the baggu fit right back into the pouch with ease. I will be buying these for gifts. They are wonderful.

  • Great Product
    By A3BNT3OGVFJ32L on 2008-03-29
Love this product! I grocery shop once every two weeks or so, so I needed a lot of bags. These bags fold up to almost nothing and are very easy to use and store. They hold 2-3 times as much as the plastic bags my grocery store uses, and they are much stronger and easier to carry. They have made the transition to reusable bags fun and easy, and they create a great opportunity to share with others how easy it is to conserve!

... They often come in handy at other times as well when I need a quick way to tote stuff from my car. They fold up so small, it is easy to leave all six in my vehicle's console so that they are always accesible.
