  • Wacom delivers with Bamboo Fun!

    By A17BUUBOU0598B on 2007-10-14
Wacom has brought this technology a long way. Many shopping for Wacom tablets probably have owned similar products in the past. This product is more affordable than the higher end Intuos3 models, yet powerful enough for many pros.

The "medium" sized tablet will look large to most people. This size is perfect for hard core graphics people who need to work at the pixel level for large images. However, most users will find the small size probably fits the needs of occasional graphics use. Those using this for the mouse and function keys may prefer this size. Either way, the pen function will map to your screen size for any of the Wacom models.

This unit comes in a variety of colors and configurations. I prefer the look of the black tablet, but there is a silver one as well. Bamboo Fun (Medium) Silver Tablet with Pen, Mouse & Graphics Software
Bamboo Fun (Small) Black Tablet with Pen, Mouse & Graphics Software
Bamboo Fun (Small) Silver Tablet with Pen, Mouse & Graphics Software

Upon plugging in the device, the mouse worked immediately! The pen also works as a mouse or as a pen/brush for drawing applications.

The mouse is nice because it allows you to free up a USB port if you're using a USB mouse. Power users will need more from a mouse though. If you're anything like me, you prefer a mouse with many more options than this one provides.

Installing the drivers and software allows you to access the settings and tools that make this device versatile and customizable. The Bamboo software also allows you to customize the buttons. Left-handers will greatly appreciate this! Be prepared to spend some time tweaking this unit to your likes.

The software included with this device is a nice to have. Many people who buy this will already have or need full blown Adobe Photoshop. Adobe Elements gives you everything casual users need. The Corel application is nice to play with. But other than a few "macro" type functions I have yet to find anything I can't already do with Adobe. Perhaps newer users may find the Corel product more user-friendly.

    Pros
    + USB connection
+ Works on XP and Vista almost plug and play - before software installation
    + Nice customizable software
+ Nice bundled applications - Adobe Elements and Corel Draw
+ No additional power adapter needed
+ Traditional or pen mouse for casual users

    Cons
    - Medium size is large for casual users not using the mouse
    - The scrolling zoom function does not work uniformly on all applications
    - The mouse with this model will not suffice for power users
    - Default settings require a lot of adjusting for graphics editing
    - The tablet would have been ideal with several additional USB ports

Overall, the graphic artist or visual junkie NEEDS one of these. If you are a casual user, it is worth getting one on sale. You just might want to lean towards the small one. The small model with pen only will meet most users' needs.

    Enjoy.

  • Bamboo Fun - Great Starter Tablet

    By A3QXNX8XLKLKIE on 2007-11-02
I'll open with the fact the Bamboo Fun is my first real "tablet"--aside from using Tablet PCs and such.

    ** Installation **
Installation and configuration of the Bamboo Fun was quick and easy--on both Windows XP and Windows Vista. The drivers on the CD are a bit old, so I'd recommend downloading the latest ones from Wacom before starting. Once installed, the pen and tablet have a dozen or so usability options (more on Vista due to Tablet integration).

    ** Usability **
The pen is comfortable to use and the size of the "medium" drawing surface is perfect! The mouse that comes with the unit is nice and tracks well, but is quite small and difficult to adjust to if you have larger hands. I am not using the mouse and opt to have my mouse and tablet side-by-side.

The USB cord that comes with the unit is relatively long, allowing you to place the tablet most anywhere on the desk.

The tablet is also highly responsive--enough that I spent an evening gaming using just the pen and it kept up without a problem. I was very impressed!

    ** Software **
The Bamboo Fun comes with a CD of drivers and another CD of software. The software is a bit dated, especially Adobe Elements, but they install and work fine on XP and Vista.

Overall, I would recommend the Wacom Bamboo Fun for anyone looking to get a great, high quality tablet without a huge investment. To date, I've used it at least once a day for various tasks and have not had a single complaint.

  • Great entry level and travel tablet

    By A1H0II9T2KL7ZU on 2007-12-29
IF YOU ARE A FIRST TIME BUYER of tablets and you are not sure if sketching on a tablet is right for you then this is a good test option. Functionality is excellent for the price. When I bought my first tablet (a 9x12 Intuos) I made the mistake of buying a large tablet - because I was used to sketching large. However I soon found that finger movements are better than arm movements when working on a tablet and had to reset the working area to 1/4 of the tablet. Newbies to tablets might find it difficult to control lines - smaller is easier. (My second tablet was 4x6 Intuos - I only ever used the function buttons on the left anyway.)

Of course it is less sensitive than higher grade tablets but 512 levels is adequate for quick sketches and Photoshop users who want more accuracy than a mouse can offer. It is somewhat jittery compared to higher end tablets - there are some lags - but lines are accurate. The pen is comfortable in the hand and buttons feel the same as their more expensive counterparts.

Oh - and if you love working on a tablet but want to upgrade - go to Intuos unless you absolutely must have wireless. The Graphires feel just like the Bamboo - jittery - and in my view are very over-priced.

  • Nice for Vista

    By A1UCTAZRBYD4KW on 2007-10-23
Wacom has always made the best tablets and the Bamboo is a nice addition to the group. The tablet has a nice feel - unlike some of my older tablets there is slightly more friction giving the feel of actual handwriting or drawing. The tablet software unlocks some really nice writing features in Windows Vista (which includes surprisingly good handwriting recognition). The buttons and scrolling are useful. I tend to use a separate mouse out of habit but the included mouse is fine. The software has a lot of tuning capability. Overall this is a fun thing to have on your computer and a must-have for artwork or photo retouching.

  • Excellent Investment

We bought this for my 14 year old daughter for Christmas. She was ecstatic She loves art and is drawing constantly. She has been trying to scan her artwork into the pc to place on various art websites, but now she can create pictures digitally. The images look great, It was easy to use right out of the box. It has a wonderful guarantee. I am extremely happy with the bamboo.

  • Five stars all the way. Esceeded my expecations.

The Wacom Bamboo Fun (medium) graphics pad offers a level of precision I have not experienced with any other pad. The mediim size I bought has plenty of room for what I need and both the mouse and the pen work well. The pen is quite sensitive and takes some practice, but both the writing point and the eraser work quite well.

My primary use of the pad is with Adobe Creative Suite programs. The Bamboo performs well there and the only issue is that pen sensitivity makes it a little difficult to use some functions of the pen tool in Illustrator. On the other hand, I am still in the learning curve with my new pad and this will probably be resolved with practice.

The only downside I have experienced is the touch ring which I have not been able to master yet. Yet this is something I learned from other reviews before I bought the Bamboo and is not really an issue with my needs. The bottom line is that the Bamboo Fun (medium) is well worth the money I paid on Amazon.

  • Great fun.
    By A2PA2SU65A0D8J on 2007-12-25
I can't believe how long it has taken to get a tablet. This is my first. I was a little worried about the 6x8 tablet size being too small. However, I am glad I got this size (moving from one end of the tablet to the other is a lot of territory to cover and anything larger would have been painful). I do not know what other companies offer, but this Wacom Bamboo has really opened my eyes and given me a fantasic experience. There is only one thing that I can think of that would make this better: a longer cord (I would have loved to have enough cord to snake around to the USB in the back of my PC).

  • Good Value
    By A2SP8NMWQWKZXP on 2007-11-15
This is a great product for the money. The included software is great. you will be Drawing and using all the tools without a major learning curve. I am Using an Apple Macbook and i was amazed on how it didn't use up my system resources, as well as drawing smoothly.

  • WACOM - Still The Best Tablet Out There
    By A2THTBJC944FYV on 2008-05-14
WACOM does it again and again. They make the best drawing tablets out there on the market. If I had one complaint is the lack of competition to help keep prices down. That said the tablet is still worth every penny. I have used other brands of drawing tablets but the WACOM products always perform the best. The Bamboo is no exception. If you are a graphics professional you will find the Bamboo a worthwhile investment.

So far the tablet works great with Windows Vista which includes a raft of new handwriting and 'pen flick' applications to make the pen the only input device you need. In fact it does a really good job reading a nd translating your handwriting to text. Don't waste your time with a high DPI laser mouse, it will not compare to a drawing tablet. I find that 9 x 6 is the largest practical size for drawing. Unless you are comfortable making huge tiring gestures you really do not need too much real estate in a tablet to work in fine detail.

  • Bamboo IS fun
    By AV3NCX2WZRK8V on 2007-12-24
I decided to go with Wacom, because of their reputation for quality. I had previously owned an old ADB port mac 4x6 Wacom tablet which I loved. (I was mad that they decided to not support drivers for their old tablets on new machines though.)

Anyway, the pen feels nice, and the pen and mouse respond well. The mouse shape is perhaps a little clunkier than other mice but it's fine.

I wish the included software was not intentionally a version stale and limited to encourage upgrades. But it too is fine.

I was thinking of getting a cheapo tablet instead of this, since I'd like the kids to use it for drawing so they don't break an expensive one. But then I realized that the Wacom will probably hold up better over time.

  • Better than I had thought
    By A37UMUVREE1KO2 on 2008-03-31
Ok, so I was worried because I never used one of these things and it sounded like I would need the intuos which is the more expesive modle in which I can't affoard right now.I'm a graphic design student so I am writing this for people in the same boat. If you can afford the intuos then I'm sure it is better and worth it, however This thing is pretty neet though. I fooled around with it in illustrator and it is cool to use over a mouse. Worked great within five minutes and took realy no practise for me to get the same results and better that I could with a mouse. Can't wait to play with it some more. For sizing the medium is great for computer artists(couldn't say for traditional artists wanting to do stuff on the computer), but if your using it just for navigation which it seems like a lot of people do, the small version would probably more than sufficient and less of a hassel.

  • Great product for the price
    By ASP87898DNCQ3 on 2008-04-27
I'm very happy with this purchase. The Bamboo is so easy to use. I got the larger sized choice but it is still small enough to fit nicely on my desk. It works great, the software that comes with it is simple to install, and then it's just plug it in and start using it. Using it with a Mac, there are some built in capabilities that let you embed drawings or your signature in documents, email messages, and more -- really nice.

I got it so I could work on small sketches, but I find I often turn to it as a break from using a mouse or trackball.

I would love it if it was wireless but I don't think they have that in this price range.

  • Wacom Bamboo
    By A3EZHR94WX2H5A on 2007-12-08
The medium size tablet is just right for 19" wide screen monitor. Most people are upgrading to bigger monitors so I recommend spending a little bit extra to get the medium or larger tablet, especially if you want to do digital art.

The tablet is very sleek looking and comes with Corel Painter Elements and Photoshop Elements, though I'd advise using the full version of those programs or the Gimp to do any serious digital painting.

Over all the Wacom Bamboo is an excellent tool for digital artists- it's easy to use and yields great results. It is by no means a budget or cheap tablet- it is a fully fledged professional tool. You won't regret buying a Wacom-brand tablet!

  • Bamboo Drawing Pad
    By A1WX21405WI8VO on 2008-01-03
I purchased the medium sized Bamboo Drawing Pad as a Christmas Present (yes I said Christmas...not Holiday...get over it) for my son.
The bottom line is, this thing is AWESOME!! The accuracy of the pen is incredible. The software is high speed. My 19 year old son loves this thing. There were no problems hooking it up. Plug and play. I'm thinking about getting one for myself.

  • Low price for a great tablet!
    By A3W07SDYZ9XKKL on 2008-10-07
The Bamboo Fun (medium) is the third tablet I've owned. I've gone from Wacom's Graphire 4x6 to an Intuos 3 6x8 to this and I actually like this one the best. The graphire was too small for my needs --drawing and graphic design. The Intuos, after 4 years of almost daily use and abuse and finally a drop on the floor, developed dead spots and was rendered useless.

I chose this tablet over a new Intuos 3 because of it's much lower price, smaller and sleeker design that actually fits in my laptop bag, and the fact that I can't even see the difference between the change in pressure levels.

Things that are awesome about the Bamboo fun:
-Rougher pen surface feels more like paper than with the Intuos
-A mouse that I'll actually use (never once used the mouse with the old two tablets)
-Fits much better on my desk than an Intuos 6x8
-No stupid touch strips where my hand is accidentally going to land every few minutes and zoom way out (Thanks Intuos)
    -Detachable USB cable
    - No flip up plastic sheet (I never used that on other tablets and all it would do was collect dirt)

  • Bamboo Fun Medium Tablet
    By A38ZVZYRDUZE9E on 2008-02-18
This tablet is simply awesome, from looks to function. I bought the medium tablet with the software. It comes with photoshop and corel painter. I have used it only a few times but in that course it has become very easy to use. The actual function of the tablet is great. The pen and tablet are pressure sensitive which I think is quite good. Not to mention its beautiful. Its very slim with a touch sensitive zoom button that has a ring of blue around it. The medium tablet is quite big, and it auto adjusts to my screen which is 22" widscreen, and is great to use to take notes in your own hand writing or as I use it, to draw with art software. The painter software is a great addition to this tablet. This was a great buy and I would recommend it to anyone thinking of getting one.

  • Disappointed with the writing function
    By A29XNQV8HZGX2G on 2008-07-11
I'm very disappointed with this product and, to be fair, I don't expect that other tablets are any different.

If I thought that I could reproduce on the screen what I can do on a sheet of paper then I have been proved wrong.

I bought the tablet to see if could add 'in pc' oriental language syllables onto documents. Something that I usually do, with a pen, after printing the document.

Trying to draw simple parallel lines, laterally across the page, is a nightmare. The tablet has to be placed on the table parallel to the edge of the desk in a way that few people do when writing on a sheet of paper which we adjust to suit the inclination of our writing hand.

Also my handwriting looks a mess, impossible to keep to a steady line and it looks as if I wrote while wearing boxing gloves.

I'll persevere but I still wish that I hadn't bought it.

  • great design
    By A24GOANNTUEULG on 2007-12-30
I bought this bamboo for gaming and its awsome constant headshots in crysis. The resolution is lower than a full artist graphics tablet but for the average user it will work great.
The pen buttons feel a little wooden and the mouse supplied is superflourious. it's feel is great and tracking while hovering above the pad is good enough 2 allow u 2 use pen as a mouse without moving ure hand allover the pad when in mouse mode switching.( also the hover feels right when airbrushing)
Bundled software is much like the pad itself, plenty if all ure doing is creating backrounds and forum sigs. if u need a pad and cant afford a full one or have vista and want a change from typeing this is a good buy

  • Bamboo Fun Review
    By A37EDLFYN41HTN on 2008-03-29
Heard about this product from a friend. Bought it from Amazon and recieved it quickly. It was easy to install, except that it requires a DVD drive to install. (some features would not install on a CD-ROM drive)

It is easy to use and it makes my art and design work easier to manage. I can now get greater details in my work with the stylus pen. This size table is just right. The smaller size would have been too small.

I would highly recommend this accessory.

    By A1DP3FN0150XPL on 2008-04-06
I am using the bamboo fun in order to grade projects turned in using word. It is working great! My online student can now have the personal touch that the face-to-face students get.

  • Amazing product for artists.
    By A2080ERW9IPVG8 on 2008-04-28
I have been looking at tablets for a few years-I'm an artist and I have always been curious about what can be done with this technology. So this year I decided to splurge and buy one that wasn't too expensive, but had a good name attached to it and the Bamboo by Wacom met both of those criteria.
Super easy to install and use right out of the box. I have found this device to be a wonderful addition to my studio and I am enjoying it's versatility a great deal. The pen is easy to use as is the mouse. I'm glad I bought it! I recommend this to anyone that is interested in what a tablet can do for them--I purchased the black medium tablet.

Good luck you won't be sorry!!

  • Great tablet
    By A3190RJ4JEAO88 on 2008-04-12
I've used Wacom tablets for years for photo editing. I just got this one and it is fine - worked instantly with my Mac. My minor quibbles are that the mouse could be more sleekly designed (I love my Mighty Mouse) and that the extra software that came with this was dated - Photoshop 6 for Mac is out and this ships with 4. When I contacted support, they told me that they didn't even have 6 and the extra software was a "gift" from the manufacturer. I asked whether I could get a new gift when 6 comes in (still waiting on the reply) - so if you want to get a free copy of 6, wait a while and check to see what's shipping.

  • ONE MAJOR DESIGN FLAW....
    By A4VA9M42PKHQQ on 2008-10-02
    Hi,

I have to say I do like this tablet for the money, the only thing you should realize is that there is, I believe, ONE MAJOR DESIGN FLAW.

The USB connector is on the top LEFT Side, which means for the 90-93 % of us whom are RIGHT HANDED and want to keep the tablet to the Right of the Keyboard...The Cord is TOTALLY in the Way.

Its a good tablet, just a very bad placement of USB cable. Should have been in the Middle to accommodate placement on either side of keyboard.

I think next time I would spend a little more for the Wireless one to avoid this issue.

  • Not just Fun!
    By A249G55C6DJ583 on 2008-10-15
I bought this as a replacement for an Intuos 2 that went off to college with my son. It is every bit as good for my purposes as the '2 (Photoshop). I believe Intuos gave it "silly" names to discourage professional/prosumer users from buying it, thus protecting their high-end line. The feel is great, I really don't notice a big difference from the '2 except I like the added "zoom pad" and function keys. Its also thinner than the '2 which is good.

    By A13U30ECQIZB1X on 2007-12-28
Wow... Amazing product for the price... but have not compared with other products to have an accurate basis for comparison. My husband has played with his 'Bamboo Fun' sketch pad every day since Christmas. No complaints so far. He seems very happy with it; in fact, I know he loves it.

  • I am loving it!

I was very surprised when I recieved in the box. It was shiny and new and worked great. I love my wacom.
I am also impressed that the seller sent it on time and faster then I thought I would receive it.

    By A2RYRWLTKDDN79 on 2008-07-06
First off the mouse is not of quality.
It is hard to use at first but you get used to it.
Lots of fun. I am glad I purchased this.

The small tablet's active area (drawing space) is about the size of an index card.
I am really happy I bought the medium tablet. Drawing space is just right.

    By ALNF2ZY36YIKU on 2008-10-09
I teach math online, and I bought this tablet for two reasons: to easily insert hand-written equations into Flash without having to scan and import image files, and to see what other fun I might have with it.

When I opened the box I just played for about three hours straight. It was great fun. You can set the pressure sensitivity where you want it, and using it with the "brush" tool in Paint or Flash or whatever works really well. Cursive can be entered much more quickly than printed letters... there seems to take a moment to initialize a new stroke or something, so you have to slow down when block printing. I also find that it's quicker to use the pen as a Mouse when I'm in Paint selecting line tools etc. So for drawing and hand writing, it works great.

I tried the text recognition feature, too, in Word, but quickly realized I could type much more quickly than I can write. Might be great if I break my left hand someday or something.

But the product itself is great: plug it right in, do a little tutorial, and you're golden.

  • Very Happy
    By A2S577WSSG2HHK on 2008-04-30
Since this is my first tablet I can't compare it to other similar products. In my business I have recently been doing more and more graphic design and artwork. This tablet has really simplified the work process. It takes a little getting use to but overall I am able to perform detailed tasks in a much more efficient manner.
I also really like the mouse, it's very efficient and comfortable. I think in the future I may upgrade to a larger size since I am constantly finding myself to be at the edge of the tablet.
