BEST for reading at night, no question about it! By A238YNKUHHS3LZ on 2007-12-09
THis lightwedge is fantastic. It provides a great source of light that is focused on your book, not on the person next to you. The light comes from the black handle, but because of the "wedge" shape of the glass, it is focused down the glass and onto your book. You can even take that focused beam and use it as an impromtu flashlight.
This thing uses hardly any batteries at all, unlike the other popular reading lights. I very rarely have to change the batteries and I use this all the time, for hours every night! I've even fallen asleep with it on overnight, with no noticable decrease in battery life. Because the battery life is so good, I've even let my son read in bed for awhile and then just set it down and use it as a nightlight for the rest of the night.
It is true that if you're like I am (rough with it) it will get scratches on the lens. Not a big deal though, when it's on the book, you won't notice the scraches. Much like small scratches on eyeglasses.
I like the larger size because you can use that with large books or with paperbacks with equal ease. The paperback one doesn't work as well with the hardcover books, but it's okay.
The lightwedge also doubles as a bookmark when not in use!
You won't be disappointed if you buy this. I wasn't. I'm actually buying two more for friends as Christmas gifts!
Disappointed By A1A2JY585I84ED on 2008-01-09
I saw this on the Today Show in December 2007. I then went to their web site to research it.
I was disappointed when I used it. It really does not light that evenly or that bright. If you were in total darkness it would be ok, but who reads in total darkness?
If you read with other ambient light around, it really does not do much more than the ambient light. It is an improvement, but not worth the effort.
It is a good idea but needs work.
--it needs to be brighter
--it needs to be even lighting
I have a feeling that this was wasted money but we will see if we can find a use for it.
I use it every night! By A7OZQZIB9W0PC on 2007-12-15
I have used this every night since I bought it in August. I highly recommend it to anyone who reads in bed.
Very Disappointed By A2L0ITJUBOUUW1 on 2008-05-04
I was surprised how much I disliked this product. The light from this is quite weak and uneven. This would work well if you read in complete darkness, but in a room with some ambient light it does not help that much. Also, you have to read "through" a piece of plastic, and so any dirt or imperfections on the plastic will effect your reading enjoyment. It is an interesting idea that did not work for me.
I have not found ANYTHING better than this... By A37GDU0YN4WFUN on 2007-12-23
I have tried itty bitty's, fancy space lights, and lights mounted to the headboard of my bed. This is by FAR the best book light I have found. It is a little cumbersome for small paperbacks but they have one for that too (maybe I will buy one one day). I take it on planes and it conveniently stays put in the book while in my bag. By the way...if you are like me and dont read directions, this goes ON TOP of the page.
Get it.
- Disappointed
     By A3HMVWXBWHNKVU on 2008-04-26
I bought this light based on all the great reviews. I love reading in bed and my husband can't stand the light on when he is trying to sleep. So, I thought I had found a good option for both of us. I find the design of this light awkward while reading--it's hard to move between pages and the light output is really faint. I am under 40 and have good vision--so think it is the light and not my eyes. I'm still looking for a better solution.
- Wedge Light
     By A1GYCCC0XYOZGW on 2008-01-07
Not the best I've used. The light fails to illuminate much in the middle of the page. It's a pain to turn the pages with the light in place. I considered returning the light.
- Not all it's cracked up to be
     By A3MCYA87RS98V6 on 2008-01-16
I was very excited to get the LightWedge, having heard wonderful things about them, and having been frustrated with small, flimsy book lights that only light up parts of the page.
Well, it turns out it is no better than any other light, in fact it is worse. There are only two LED's at the top of the "wedge" and at the bottom. The light emitted seems to be quite a bit, but once it is placed on a page, it is very dim light. I found myself giving up on reading late at night because of constant squinting. It was horrible. I ended up pointing the end of the lightwedge at the text that I was reading instead of laying it down on the page so I could actually read the text without killing my eyes.
To make this a better product there needs to be an equal distribution of light over the page, maybe the addition of two more LED's would solve this problem.
If you want to have a good amount of reading light in complete darkness, shy away from the ligth wedge.
- Works great
     By AWV5BWS9PTH5K on 2008-02-13
The LightWedge works as you would expect. It definitely has issues with any sort of smudge or scratch being highly illuminated, but it doesn't distract me too much. It is light-weight. It does illuminate the room more than you might expect, with a soft blue glow. but I still highly prefer it to the type of lights that clip on to a book, which can be quite clumsy.
- Wait to buy until they release an updated version
     By ADOUKULP732OM on 2008-09-19
I bought my Light Wedge after seeing it on Oprah's favorite things last year. I was sure that this was the answer to wearing a headlamp during reading and I am definitely one to keep up with the latest tech. After using it for the last eight months a couple of things have irked me to the point where I am officially retiring the product and moving back to more conventional methods.
Problem the first!
This thing scratches beyond easy. I wish I had the foresight to purchase some large screen protectors or something of the sort. I don't mistreat it either, it just acts as my bookmark when I am not using it. In the time I have owned it it has become so bad that it's difficult to read and I have to move it around in order to read a whole page.
Problem the second!
The battery casing is a joke. I don't know what the hell the designers were thinking, but in order to get the batteries into the device you have to seriously wedge (pardon the pun) the suckers in. I use rechargeable batteries and the bottoms are ruined from how hard they have to press against each other inside.
All in all the concept is fantastic. I loved it for the first few months even despite the fact that I couldn't put the batteries in without help. Now that it is nearly unusable I wish that I had spent my $30 on more books instead.
If you are interested in purchasing one I would say wait until the next model comes out, but if you really must have it now make sure you get something to protect the screen on both sides.
- Great for partner who reads at night
     By A3SOH9457A1MAE on 2008-01-07
I bought this item (original black) as a gift for my husband who likes to read at night in bed. I prefer to go right to sleep and hate having light in my eyes. This emits a soft enough glow that it doesn't disturb me yet it's bright enough for my husband to read. I have to be careful with it around my son who loves to grab it off the bedside table, because it isn't toddler proof . . . not that it is meant to be. It's a great solution for couples where one likes to sleep while the other reads. In fact, I got one for my father because my mother complained about his nighttime reading. So far, they are both happy with this item.
- disappointed in the lightwedge
     By A21S0K5PU4YO9L on 2008-05-31
After wanting one for quite some time, I finally purchased a Lightwedge Original today. Put new batteries in it, put it over a book, turned it on, and found myself thinking, "Is that it?" The light was much weaker than I expected. It was okay in a completely dark room. But if you just want to be able to add light to your book in a room with other lights on without sitting directly under a table lamp it wouldn't help much. For the amount of money I paid for it, it ought to work better. I will be returning it to the store I purchased it from tomorrow. If you are looking to buy a booklight to be used in a room where your spouse/roomate is sleeping nearby, then this product would probably serve your needs. I guess I'm just not the target user.
- Great idea - bad manufacturing
     By A3NCVLKAS6FMKX on 2008-01-07
Purchased for my Mom for christmas. She was very excited. Unfortunately the opening for the batteries does not fit the recommended batteries. Called the manufacturer and they said "yes" that was a problem with some units. Item was returned - can not use!
- Light by Night
     By A39KTZV25LU76R on 2008-01-07
I saw this product on a talk show and it looked like the answer to my reading at night problem - I have to get out of bed to turn off the light! When I received the LightWedge, I tried it out that night...what a wonderful product! The light it gives is plenty enough to see the pages and it doesn't disturb my partner who is trying to sleep! It is lightweight as well and the bookrest that comes with it is a great help too! I liked it so much, I bought the paperback model too!
- Does it's job
     By A3AYSYSLHU26U9 on 2008-07-30
This reading light works perfect for low light conditions. My daughter uses it while laying in bed with all the lights off. A nice feature is that it will illuminate both pages since the reflection of the light hits the next page, so no need to flip it over to the next page. This is a perfect gift for anyone who enjoys reading

     By A3TD9BANGHRSTO on 2008-01-08
Overall, I love my Wedge. I can read at night and not bother my husband! Probably it's #1 benefit. It's down falls are that I wish it gave off just a little more light and it scratches easily. I've only used mine for a couple of weeks But I'm glad I bought it. I've even used it with smaller books and it works fine.
- very good reading light.
     By A30KSOTGBPRBS9 on 2008-01-12
I ordered this light because I like to read at night and the lamp bothers my husband. It is easy to use and works well. The only problem I have is I read very fast and one must move the light to the next 2 pages everytime I turn a page..so sometimes I make a little noise and it bothers my husband a little. I think the light is just right and th plastic is clear covering the book. I would buy it again. MB

This product is a great idea, but...it scratches very easily and to clean the glass or what ever it is made out of, you better own a micro fiber cloth or anything else will scratch it. As much as I tried to take care, scratches just happened, and I was very careful with it. To read with it was great, sometimes the scratches got annoying., it would work well if the glass had some sort of sratch protection guard on it.
- It's possible it could work
     By A2503LT8PZIHAD on 2008-09-03
It doesn't work for me.
The continual search for the right Book light has once again ended in failure. It is so sad.
It's exactly like the surfboard I abandoned on Maui.
It spent too much time hitting me in the head to live.
- lite on the light
     By A28EAYJTOP8Q0R on 2008-01-01
I hate to be a naysayer. And maybe it was my expectations because I don't think I have seen a bad review anywhere's. But the amount of light this "toy" projects will have you squinting in a short while. Its a beautiful idea and design- poorly executed. I noticed it only uses two lights that are in essence pointed sideways from the page. The light that reachs the page is uneven and dim to say the least. I tried turning out all the lights but this is marginal at best. I never tried any other nightlights so maybe its the best - but I'd say flick on table lamp - go in another room- or plan on turning in early. And scratching has got to be an issue- I could actually see it scratch as I used a microfiber to try and clean the plastic. Sorry but made in Mexico - what did I expect.
- Good for reading; difficult to load/remove batteries
     By AVUTFQGDOX0KC on 2008-01-07
As a booklight the product works as advertised. No news yet on battery life as we just started using it. However, it is very difficult to load the batteries, and I expect that it's even more difficult to remove them.
I was on the verge of sending this back when I decided to try again, and found a better way to slide, rather than force the batteries in, but I'm still not convinced that I'll be able to replace the batteries when they run out.
- quick shipment, however was not in NEW condition...
     By A1ESCX7BAYKP9T on 2008-01-07
I was happy to receive the lightwedge so quickly, however I was dissappointed seeing so many scratches on the clear plastic. It appeared used and I didn't have time to return the item and receive a new one by x-mas and now I am stuck with a lightwedge with scratches.
- Best reading light!
     By A1TL7KZYJECSHT on 2008-01-08
This has been the best investment for my kids! They don't mind reading in bed anymore because they can actually see the whole page and don't have to readjust the light. it serves as a great bookmark as well. I bought the hardcover and the paperback sizes so that the kids can share and have flexibility. That has worked out great!
- LightWedge is Great!
     By AODSNU8EB4VO1 on 2008-01-08
My mother requested this for Christmas after seeing it on Oprah. She loves it! She reads in bed and wants as little ambient light as possible, and the LightWedge is perfect. A Must Buy!
- Great but....
     By A7LNHLIUFAUKI on 2008-01-19
I really love this product and it's far superior to any other hanging booklights I have ever used. My only complaint is that it should automatically come with a cleaning cloth and cleaning solution because it gets dirty quite easily. Other than that I would recommend this product.
- Light Wedge
     By A2LJTKPLANO1KL on 2008-01-20
The LightWedge was purchased as a Christmas present for
my wife, who reads in bed. It works, but I guess it
did not impress her all that much, as she still reads
with the lamp on. She finds it a little clumsy. It does
do what is advertised, although I think it is priced a
little high.

     By AP8JZU93W4SU on 2008-01-20
Bought this for my husband, loved it so much I went back for mine. Great gift idea for bedtime readers. Did have to stock up on the AAA batteries though. You really don't bother your sleeping partner while you read with this light.
- It's a great idea, but needs improvement
     By APL16A8UJKUQT on 2008-02-27
Immediately upon opening the packaging and removing the book light I noticed that there was already a white scratchy splotch on it that could not be removed. Certainly this was a new item, and it's very possible that the splotch happened when opening, as careful as I was. I would say that I am fairly happy with this for lack of finding anything better to use and not disturb my sleeping husband. While it does enable me to read comfortably in the dark, there are radient light rings that almost make the book pages appear wrinkled, though reading is not affected by this. I hope that by the time I have to replace this in the future this product will have been improved. Maybe a bit more scratch resistant too.
- review on a light wedge
     By A236AXHG0YI2L7 on 2008-03-26
Was so excited to recieve my light wedge, saw the product on the oparha Winfrey show, when I recieved the light wedge it was scratched. Was a little disappointed but I do buy alot from amazon and everything else was wonderful.
- Be mindful what color you buy
     By A1BLGFHSJ5ST7Y on 2008-11-06
I use the LightWedge to read in bed and bought it so the light wouldn't disturb my husband. We both think it works great; however, be mindful of the translucent versus solid colored casing in terms of light escape.
The translucent lets the light escape through its clear casing and scatter throughout the room. So, if disturbing others around you is an issue then buy a solid colored casing.
Overall, the LightWedge is a must buy for anyone who likes to read before going to bed and while traveling. I have 2 more suggestions: 1) buy the case covering to protect it when not in use 2) buy a LightWedge with different light settings, if possible: a high and a low. For example, when I wake in the middle of the night and can't fall asleep, I get out my book to read. The problem is that my current LightWedge has only one light setting. This can be so bright, it almost hurts to read and how I mumble and curse myself for not being a more mindful consumer.
