Excellent By A5RUKYDWTVM9A on 2007-11-11
The best case I've seen so far, great impact resistance and the texture makes it far easier to grip without the stickiness of some other soft cases. The belt clip rotates freely, unlike most cellphone clips it has no ratcheting mechanism.
A great case and a great company By ATQI6GADZOH0X on 2008-02-23
This case makes the iPod very easy to grip. The belt clip rotates well and grips well. The rubber protects the iPod very well from drops. The only thing that is not protected is the click wheel. When I travel, I keep the iPod in cheap camera case with the headphones so that it is protected.
When I first received my TouchSkin, the clip was not securing tightly to the case because the piece that holds it was stuck. I sent the company an e-mail. A few days later, they sent me THREE replacement clips for free. This level of customer service is not seen these days so I am very happy with my purchase.
toughskin is tough By A31WZRBP1UIOXB on 2008-01-07
I like this product. After spending all that moolah on an ipod classic I sure don't want to worry about an accident and the toughskin feels like it will live up to its name.
The belt clip could be designed much better. So I just took it off and walk with the ipod in my pocket, which works fine until the nice weather takes over. Then I'll go back to the bulky belt clip.
Amazing! By A1ZPV536EXV4E5 on 2008-02-03
I've had this for about a year now - I got it when I got my iPod.
My iPod does not have a scratch on it. Why did I wait a year to write a review? I figured, "Well, it's nothing special. Just a huge bulky rubbery thing to protect my iPod." Not bulky enough to make me write a bad review, though. As expected of a huge bulky rubbery thing, when I dropped it once or twice on pavement, the iPod was protected and did not shatter into a million pieces and die.
But do you want to hear why I like this huge bulky rubbery thing? I slammed the trunk on the iPod. Several times in a row, very hard, because I did not realize that I had left the iPod there. My iPod still works. Still not a scratch on it. The belt clip on the case got stuck closed, but I managed it back apart and it also works flawlessly.
I'd recommend this. I have the black cover on my black iPod. Very good buy, I must say.
Inadequate Protection... sort of By A2I4EU8NNHMJN0 on 2008-06-17
This is the first case that I bought for my iPod. This case excels at absorbing drop damage due to its thick rubber shell and strong corners. I have dropped my ipod in this case several times and was glad that I had the case.
The Speck case fails in three other areas, however.
1. If you remove your iPod for any reason (docking in a standalone speaker, etc.) then the rubber around the screen will stretch out and be ruined in short order. This is very frustrating because the screen protector no longer is sealed behind the rubber and has a tendency to slide around.
2. Dust, grit, and dirt get under the rubber very easily. No big deal, right? Well not until you take the iPod out of the case and discover that the entire surface has been covered in fine scratches. The dust and grit can get in but can't get out.
3. The swivel belt clip, while useful, leaves a circle of scratchy awfulness the size of a US quarter that starts at the bottom of the Apple logo. Very irritating.
In summary the case is good for drop protection but lousy for incidental scratch protection. I blame this case 100% for destroying the resale value of my iPod due to the scratches.
- this is an excellent case!!!
     By AIY6CW2SLQ4BF on 2007-12-21
I've had my eye on this case for a while and I purchased it for my iPod classic - it is phenomenal! The rubberized texture and indentations make it very easy and comfortable to hold (for watching video) while preventing me from dropping it on my daily train commute. The belt clip is great for listening hands-free to music while reading the paper or a magazine. The screen protection is also excellent - it has remained clear through multiple uses. Finally, there is easy access to all the buttons and ports - I highly recommend it.
- Great Investment!
     By A8Q9YNI87VP2X on 2008-01-23
I chose this particular case for several reasons; 1- The texture on the outside. It has indentations for great gripping and no slipping. 2- the material protects without attracting a lot of lint. 3-The click-wheel is not covered, so there is no problem with useage. 4- The screen has a hard plastic screen that slips under the lip of the case. 5- all ports are open and accessible. Please note- The case has an insert that you use with the new classics, this makes it thicker than the actual ipod, about the same thickness as the oldler classics. (but, it will add to the protection). The clip is big, (removeable) but will be secure! I think this case is better than the iskin I had on my older 20 gig!
- Safe and Protected
     By A14AGSHZ81C9QA on 2008-02-07
This is the best case hands down. I am so thrilled that I found this.
I've used thin silcone protectors for my phone for years and they have saved its life many times. I knew when I got a new iPod that it was going to take something substantial to keep it safe in my posession. The Toughskin was the perfect solution.
Its not made to be thin or non bulky. Its made to keep your investment safe. I have no problem with it at the gym on in the car.
Its so well made, there is nothing to rip or break and the screen is totally protected and still functional, even with video.
- Tough Case to crack
     By A3SSLAZC6WT5I3 on 2007-12-24
This is a really good case for kids with IPODS. It reminds me of the old G-Shock watches - tough and durable. The screen protector comes loose a lot, so we just left it off, and the belt clip, while OK, doesn't work for kids who don't wear belts. But the case was what I bought it for, as my son has a definite knack for dropping things. While nothing can completely protect the IPOD (I bought the insurance), it does really reduce the possibility of cracking it wide open. For the price, definetly a good buy.
- Great Case!!!!

Love it. would put everything I own in one. No instructions on how to put ipod in it and kinda tricky.
- Navy Seabee approved!
     By A3H6UW6ZU8GVWN on 2008-01-07
I ordered the Speck Toughskin Rubberized Case when I bought an iPod classic for my husband's Christmas gift. My husband is a Navy Seabee and deploys to places where his equipment really takes a beating. Just as I expected, this case was exactly the thing he needed. It is extremely durable. With just the right thickness and style, it offers the best protection available today. Not only can it survive the rough, tough Seabee lifestyle, it has also been toddler tested! They don't call it ToughSkin for nothing! Off to Africa now!
- Just what I was looking for
     By A2R9PALQULY2JJ on 2008-02-01
This fits the Classic 80 & 160. They give you a spacer to take up the difference, that works just fine. The new IPOD classic 80 is real thin and the rubber case makes it kind of thick, but this case offers what seems like great protection. It is a very grippy rubber so the IPOD in this case doesn't slide out of my car seat or shorts pocket while at the gym working out. There is a clip but you can completely remove that if you want. The case is all one piece. You put the IPOD in through the window opening of the case. It was easy for me with the 80GB. The case looks cool too, kind of like a slick Batman item. I'd buy it again without a thought. Cases like this are $30-40 everywere else too.
- Good Protector but ......
     By A1EY82J7OQCI5 on 2008-03-06
For sure it is a good protector for my Ipod, and that is why I bought it. However, the Ipod cannot be 'slid' into a pocket anymore. The protecting cover makes the Ipod bulky and it 'grabs' the material of a pocket. It comes with a belt clip, which is fine, but don't expect to go jogging with it as it will be too bulky and bouncy. (The Nano or Shuffle is more for running anyways)
The rubberized material is good in the car because the Ipod won't slide around. Lastly, I use the Monster brand FM transmitter. The plug of the transmitter was bigger than the opening of the protector. I simply used a razor blade to enlarge the opening to accomidate the plug.
- Great Product
     By A3OPJ42KEF73 on 2008-03-14
I am an electrician and work every day with my ipod so it goes through some real abuse. I purchased this case to protect it from when it falls. This case works great not only does it protect your ipod but it comes with a protective screen. My only complaint is that I cant dock the ipod while its in this case.
- Good Protection, Not Good for Exercise
     By AHZP9ZXVQ2LY5 on 2008-04-29
This case provides good strong protection, and the hard plastic cover for the screen is great. The belt clip option is not good for workouts (especially running) - it's a little flimsy and the ipod bounces around way too much. If you plan to use your ipod for workouts, get a different case for that.
- Excellent product!!
     By AKFECDO1DA29Q on 2008-01-07
I bought this case for my husband to go with his new i-pod. He's dropped the i-pod, used it while hiking, at the gym and while working in the garage, and absolutely loves it. This case really stands up to abuse and his i-pod is still in pristine condition. For anyone with an active lifestyle and an i-pod, this product will provide the best level of protection.
- Awsome product
     By ABROEZN3ZOJS3 on 2008-02-14
Holy crap is this thing awesome! It fits my OCD lifestyle of wanting to protect anything with a screen or that is expensive. It really helps with handling the ipod as well. The belt clip is a lot beefier than others i've seen so i'm not worried to walk around with it at the machine shop i work at. It shipped USPS with and expected 5 days to deliver but i got it in 2 because i live near an amazon warehoue.
- Just fabulous!
     By A2ZKJQUEOUXTUP on 2008-02-20
I love my Spec skin! It's made very well, has a great screen cover, all ports are still open for syncing, headphones and the hold button. It does add bulk to the 80GB iPod so if you're looking for something sleek then this probably isn't it. I myself am a clutz and needed something that could give my iPod a little cushion in case I biff it on the sidewalk. The belt clip is kind of bulky and I wish it didn't do a total 360 degree rotation but I can get used to that. Especially since it's great for hands-free use. I don't like armbands so I'm planning on using this when I go to the gym.
- Speck ToughSkin Lives Up to its Name
     By A27D8SWUXB1K70 on 2008-02-24
I've already dropped my iPod Classic (80 GB) several times, but fortunatetly it's always been in the Speck ToughSkin Rubberized Case and has not suffered any noticeable damage.
I'd give this product 5 stars if the plastic window was of higher quality - mine seems to be permanently scuffed up in no time at all, although I can still see through it to the LCD display without difficulty.
The belt clip makes this case very versatile in being able to place it just about anywhere (or even on your belt, if that's what turns you on).
- Okay, but not great
     By A3QDZDPSKKY4FZ on 2008-03-17
Functional and sturdy, but the screen cover is made of plastic and useless. It doesn't even fit perfectly aroud the iPod.
- Not Great
     By AVV8B5VNR1T16 on 2008-04-11
It has good shock absorption properties, but is kind of clumsy. The top does not fit well. The protective window does not stay in place at all.
- If not for the protection... get if for the style.
     By A11U14AXNJU9QN on 2008-04-15
I recently bought this for my new iPod 80 GB since I kept dropping the darn thing. The last thing I need is losing sleep over a $250 brick. I must say I am very impressed with this protector. It is a little bulky but all the connection slots are exposed and the rubber does not impede with the connections. I charge my headphones and charger in with no problems. Now that I think about it... the rubber is thick enough it might save you from an electrical discharge (highly unlikely... but just a crazy thought). The screen protector is not all that great since it is made of cheap plastic... so expect to see some scuff marks after a while... but I would much rather have scuff marks on my protector than on the iPod screen itself. All in all, I am very pleased with my purchase. If the protection still doesn't sound good enough... I at least recommend this item for the style. It makes my iPod look like a high-tech gadget. I think if Batman were to have an iPod somewhere in his inventory belt... it would look something like this. This definately gets 5 stars in my book.
PS. Hail Batman!
- Perfect fit, outstanding protection
     By A3F8VNSEHU18FV on 2008-05-04
Ideal fit, outstanding protection from the compact but nicely padded enclosure. I have the 80GB iPod, for which an insert is provided that fills the small extra space perfectly. Worth every penny and highly recommended.
- Great Case
     By A3F8E639D9MEQX on 2008-05-06
Overall this is a great case. Provides good protection for the ipod, including the screen. The only downside is that for the 80GB version, you have to slip a supplied rubber shim in behind the ipod to fit in the case, since the case is for both the 80 and 160 GB versions. So it makes your 80GB ipod a bit thicker, but not enough to make a noticeable difference for me.
Belt clip is detachable. The case allows you access to the headphone, lock switch and dock connector. Doesn't impede the use of the click-wheel at all.
- Nice protection
     By A2JXLVO378Y1VJ on 2008-06-20
I am glad I bought the ToughSkin. However, it does add a lot of weight to the iPod (7 oz total). It has an insert to fill in the space for an 80 GB iPod since is it smaller than a 160 GB iPod. The plastic insert to protect the screen is nice. The openings for the charger, headphones, and "hold" switch are large enough so that there is no problem with access, yet there is still enough protection for drops. The belt clip has a button that easily allows the unit to be removed from the clip. The control wheel is fully exposed so that nothing impedes use of the controls.
- Lack of fit.
     By ANOMBQCE24XQ8 on 2008-07-26
Product is not as expected because it does not have a good fit (loose) on new generation classic ipods. It is built for old generation ones with bigger dimensions. Not entirely happy with it.
- Great case with two drawbacks
     By A3HPF39NNV4HVG on 2008-08-05
I've had this case for about two years, I think, and I'm very happy with it. With great skill, I've managed to accidentally knock my ipod off my desk many times, either by forgetting my headphones are on when I walk away, or by simply dropping it. The toughskin's traction makes it harder to drop, and it provides enough cushioning that the ipod has survived several falls without any damage. (Keep in mind that the rubber of the case makes getting it in and out of a tight pocket something of a challenge.)
There's only two drawbacks: first off, the rubber of the case will mark up the surface of the ipod. It's completely superficial, but if you plan on taking the ipod out of the case for a beauty show, you're not going to win. I ended up buying one of those stick-on decals that protect the surface of the ipod.
Second, the rubber stretches. Do NOT take your ipod out of the case (you're not winning any beauty shows) unless you really do need to, as the "mouth" around the screen will stretch out more and more.
All in all, a great case for people who favor safety over style. (Although the big mean industrial rubber look is a lot cooler than that crocheted sock thing your girlfriend puts her ipod in.)
- OK, I'M A WEE BIT CYNICAL!
     By A27ZCN5C6T4DD6 on 2008-02-24
THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A MAGNIFICENT PRODUCT THAT DOES IT'S JOB IN PROTECTING THE IPOD CLASSIC. OBVIOUSLY, A VERY COSTLY PIECE OF EQUIPMENT. ALL GREAT REVIEWS HERE OF COURSE, AND JUSTIFIABLY SO. INCLUDING MY OWN. WHAT DO YOU THINK THEY'LL PROBABLY DO THOUGH? I GUARANTEE SPECK DISCONTINUES IT IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE. THESE SALES MANAGERS DO THINGS TRULY BEFUDDLING TO ME AND PROVE TO ME REPEATEDLY, THAT, THAT LITTLE THING, FEW OF US POSSESS, REFERRED TO AS COMMON SENSE, CONTINUES TO ELUDE THEM!
- Really Good Protection
     By AQG2MV13YKB1H on 2008-03-11
This skin offer excellent protection. It also makes the ipod easier to grip. It allows for easy access to the various buttons and inputs.
- best case by far
     By A2ZTP9DQM9356L on 2008-03-21
All of these reviews are accurate. It's by far the best protectant for an ipod. This company needs to start making a lot more products! Thanks SPECK!
