  • A Future Collector Item

    By A3FG0FQHNV2UP2 on 2007-11-23
I was skeptical when i saw the box. "We don't need to turn the wii-motes into a gun. How good can the pack-in be?" But then I had second thoughts and bought it. We've been playing it all night. I was a Duck Hunt fan and the rail shooting levels are fantastic - like the first time you played Mrs. PacMan after being a PacMan fan but so much better. There's a mix of scrolling, rail and 1st person shooting levels set in the Twilight Princess world that can be played in order or on their own. If you get a Wii for the holidays, pick this up as well. I can tell there's no point in even taking the wii-mote out of the zapper. The family will be playing this just about everyday, despite our having about a dozen other Wii titles. My 3 year old was delighted when she beat my high score. In my defense it would have been higher but I hit a live chicken. My 8 year old informed me "Mom! You can't shoot LIVE things!!!" Who knew? It was so much fun blasting the fruit balloons.... and the skeletons.... I'd defend my record, but my husband and brother have been playing for the last four hours and I can't get near it. Well worth the $20 - if they'd sold the game alone I would have paid more.

  • Link's Crossbow Training is Great; Zapper Ergonomics are OK!

    By AIBIYUPOC043B on 2007-11-20
The combination of the Zapper and Link's Crossbow Training is well worth the $20 I paid. The Zapper (which is only a plastic shell for the Wiimote and the Nunchuck) is very sturdy and amazingly well-conceived. The instructions are quite clear on how to insert the Wiimote and the Nunchuck into the Zapper.

Of course the ergonomics of the Zapper are odd, with the trigger (the Wiimote B button) being forward vs to the rear like a rifle or shotgun trigger. However, it's a compromise that Nintendo decided it had to make based on its tests on prototypes. That, and the fact that the infrared component of the Wiimote must be to the front.

The bundled game, "Link's Crossbow Training" is multifaceted and exactly what's needed to give the player practice using the Zapper. AND, the game is a lot of fun all by itself.

The bottom line on this is that the combo of the Zapper plus the game Link's Crossbow Training is a must-have (at least for me) and worth the price. Highly recommended.

  • Link's Crossbow training will make you a Zapper convert

    By A34W59GPOUKU8L on 2007-11-28
This is what I expected it to be, a non essential peripheral that only adds to the feeling of shooting (this gun controls excellently off the hip), but Nintendo has included a first class Zelda style shooting game that is just as fun as any light gun game I have ever played as well. The 27 levels will go by fast and if you combo your shots you should be medalling fairly quickly which means that it is technically only about an hour and 1/2 of gameplay till the end, but there are boss battles and free roaming sections on the levels that make it feel like more than some software designed to get gamers used to the Zapper and its mechanics. The instructions are clear and should be read to put it together properly as the cord just fits into the handle, the nunchuck cord does wrap around the handle at the top which will annoy those with BIG hands. I tried it out with COD 3 and RES EV4 and if you can get your index finger on the A button and shoot with your middle finger both are playable but the vehicle/ combat levels in COD3 make it essentially unplayable with this setup same goes for Metroid 3. I can't wait to get my hands on copies of MEDAL OF HONOR HEROES 2-GHOST SQUAD-UMBRELLA CHRONICLES to get some shooting action in that is specifically designed for the zapper, until then I will keep shooting up the landscape in Links terrific if somewhat short pack in game and dream about a COD4 zapper adaptation.

  • Not even worth the price unless you plan on buying a different gun.

    By A1CXNTLATG1HVE on 2007-11-22
First off I'm a Wii owner who has no plan to buying any other systems, I've owned every Nintendo consol so far and I've never owned a xbox or playstation. So this isn't an attempt to bring this rating down for any fanboy reason, I just didn't like this product.

In fact I hated this product because I wanted it to be so good that it was a major let down. I found the Zapper itself basically unusable and the Nintendo gun not the game is the reason I bought this. I used to love playing duckhunt with the light gun and this sadly sucks compared to that.

I read a review of this on a game site that wasn't favorable and figured they were just being overly critical but after about a half hour with this I knew they were dead on. The main complaint is the trigger button is mushy and you just can't shoot fast enough when there are a lot of things coming at you. What I learned from the gamesite review was that the mushy trigger button is because there are no springs to make it feel tight and pop back into position, it just returns to position from it's own momentum. It didn't seem bad at first but after playing with it for a while it was stupid that they made it this way.

Second complaint was also one the website had and that is it's uncomfortable. The hand that holds the front grip is put in an uncomfortable place and after a while my hand started to hurt. I switched hands, I tried holding it with just one hand but it was just too uncomfortable for long time play. I couldn't wait to take my Wiimote out and just use it to play the relatively fun Zelda game only to find it's not that great of a game without a gun.

The Website and Me also agree with the other reviewer who complained the Wiimotes buttons are out of reach, if they were needed in other games they wouldn't be accessible. Something I would forgive and say maybe this is a gun just for Link's Crossbow Training if the first two problems didn't exist.

If it wasn't for the Trigger and the Uncomfortable design this would be worth more then twenty, at least 30, 50 if they had put some real effort into the Zelda game. The game isn't bad but it's pretty basic/minimal in design and not much fun without a gun in my opinion. You may love the Zelda game and feel this is worth the 20 dollars because of it but I can't see how anyone is happy with the Zapper itself.

Nintendo had showed off a gun that looked like the old light gun design at a 2006 gaming expo, I hope they reconsider and bring that out or at least something better then this.

Buy a Classic Controller and download some games for your Virtual Consol instead.

  • For the price how can you go wrong?

    By A1E110L9ZKX6FD on 2007-11-20
The bottom line is fun. The Wiizapper delivers on this and then some. Boxed with Link's Cross Bow there is no doubt you will get hours of entertainment out of the Zapper and the game it comes with. Even if you never buy another game for it Link's Crossbow is extremely entertaining and has a lot of replay value considering you are going to pay no more then $25.00 for it. If you were lucky enough to pick this up for $19.99 then even better.

The game play is simple enough. Point and shoot. The controls and aim work flawless as one might expect using the Zapper with the Wiimote firmly in place. If you enjoy rail shooters or were a fan of the game duck hunt from the golden age you will feel right home with both the Zapper and Link's Crossbow.

A very nice addition to the Wii library. Worth the purchase.

Okay so obviously some people do NOT know how to use the Wii Zapper nor do they know WHY you should buy the Zapper.

First and foremost the Zapper is solidly built with only one part of it that seems fragile (the connector that holds the cord down in the back) however all fears are put to rest once you actually find out it's supposed to come off and on easily so you can switch up.

When playing with the Zapper there are actually 2 positions to play from. One is with the nunchuck on the back (as in Link's Crossbow training) or the nunchuck goes in the other hand (as in the case with Umbrella Chronicles). I recommend that you brace this device against your shoulder for more stable shooting when the nunchuck is in the other hand. Children might also like this position better because it won't feel so heavy.

    IMPORTANT:
When playing games that can use the wii zapper you have to remember... turn the control options to Zapper. If you don't do that in Umbrella chronicles your gameplay goes downhill fast. Instead of using the inaccessible "A" button on top, the highly accessible "Z" button on the nunchuk becomes the grenade, knife, and pickup button. If you DO NOT change the options to the right setting, you will be faced with some bad situations in this and many other games.

That being said, Nintendo has had some VERY GOOD things come of their accessories. Rumble pack, the original light gun, and the Wiimote itself. However, there are a few things we'd rather not mention such as the Virtual Boy, the stacking robot (Just because it wasn't popular), and the overhyped powerglove which made it's way into coolness due to its appearance on The Wizard. If you ask me, for every bad accessory nintendo makes, there are a hundred other companies making worse ones for the same purpose. I've owned a lot of them.

Get this Zapper if you want to have better control over your shooting games. The Zelda game that comes with it should be worth at least most of the $20 you spend on it. In addition, think of it as a future investment. This doesn't seem like a peripheral that Nintendo will just leave out in the rain after it has two games under its belt at launch. Who know? Nintendo just might make the next big first person shooter.

I bought it and have no problems with it. It's a simple piece of plastic that does its job and actually makes Umbrella Chronicles more fun to play. Especially as Hunk. Be weary of copycats because so far they haven't made one as good as the official. However, I'm sure that will change in the future. If they manage to come out with a handgun-like zapper then I'd be game for it. It would definitely make the RE series a little more authentic in its experience.

The only knock on the device is this.
If you're expecting a gun like the one that comes with Time Crisis for PS3 then you're dreaming. That is the only reason why it's not 5 star in my book. If Nintendo wanted to invest into the innovation they could make a pretty pricey arcade style Guncon knockoff that has a kickback function whenever you press the trigger. However, that will probably never happen but if it did, I'd pay $50 for it.

All in all, it's a nice little innovation with a solid game attached to it. Configure your options on your game right and you will be rewarded. Buy it if you're into shooting games or just want to play as Link for some post Twilight Princess fun. Don't get it if you're not into shooting games and it can't hurt to get it if you're curious because it really doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

  • Wii Crapper
    By A3OMPSEVL59ZDK on 2008-03-18
Nintendo is selling you a two cent piece of plastic and a video game that will make its way to bargain bins around the world for less than two dollars in a few months. The Wii Zapper isn't needed to play shooters on the Wii. In fact it only hinders the gameplay with a poorly implemented trigger that doesn't feel as tight as actually pressing the B button on the wii remote yourself. I am astounded that Nintendo has the guts to release this for twenty dollars on the unsuspecting public. Its hardly worth what they sell it for and you'll end up with a useless hunk of junk cluttering your home and years later you'll wonder why you even wasted your time and money. You can play all of the shooters with just the wii remote and nunchuck.

As for the game; Link's Crossbow Training will hold your interest for about five minutes you might as well just purchase Ghost Squard for thirty bucks and get a full game for the near 20 you'll spend for what barely amounts to a game and a useless hunk of junk.

  • Worth the price!!
    By AY1AH6JFEURNZ on 2007-11-26
I got this for $19.99 during the amazon pre-order time period. It is now $24.99 and not even in stock, I'm guessing because EVERYONE and their mothers have been ordering it for themselves and for X-mas gifts. This would be a perfect gift for someone with a Wii....or for yourself!

Anyways, the Wii Zapper is easy to set up with the nunchuck and remote. It goes well with the game, Link's Crossbow Training, and is neither too difficult nor too easy, so that people of all ages can play. I like how there are additional levels to "unlock" so you know there will be more stages, environments, and enemies to destroy.

For the price plus free shipping it beats getting this at the store for more $$ and the game itself is worth the price. The Zapper is plastic and probably really cheap to produce, so I consider the game a great buy at $19.99. I wish it came in the plastic media case like the other games because the paper envelope will probably be messed up in no time.

    **UPDATE**
I have found a Con. I have the Nyko battery charger to charge the remotes and realized that with the rubber battery backing, the Wii remote becomes too thick to slide and lock into the zapper apparatus!! Thus, I have to dig out my AA batteries to use with the zapper while my remaining remotes have the Nyko rechargeable battery with the rubber backing.

My Wii games (in order from my most favorite to my least favorite):
    Wii Sports
Wii Carnival and Link's CrossBow Training (tied)
    Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
    Wii Play
    Wario Ware: Smooth Moves
    Cooking Mama
    Brunswick Bowling

  • Retails for 20, Great addition to my new Wii
    By A1NASNXCKZCXLM on 2007-12-08
I see lots of good reviews for this item.
    I concure.
Just writing this because I see people selling it used for $40 and up and wanted to say you can get it retail for $20 and notice Amazon didn't list a regular price yet for it. Thought people should just be in the know for the retail price before they shell out their hard earned money.

I never could play video games before...this has deffinately opened up the world to me and my husband. I workout with the Wii regularly to suppliment my exercise routines and my fun in life.

  • Horrible hardware, Nintendo cashing in...
    By A8IRV370GT4JW on 2007-12-23
This product is terrible. It is poorly designed and a pain to use.

    Design problems:

The stock itself is too small for most adult hands. The spacing of the fore and aft grips isn't very deep. This will put your arms into an uncomfortable position for playing. The trigger is located on the front grip. This is completely counter-intuitive. This will force you to either hold the device in an unusual way or operate the trigger with your less-dominant hand.

You are forced to "assemble" the controller before use:

    Remove a cover plate
Lock the Wii remote into the forward portion of the stock
Unlatch the Nunchuck cord holder (which is very flimsy)
    Insert the Nunchuck
Feed the Nunchuck cord under the stock
Wrap the Nunchuck cord inside the stock
    Relatch the Nunchuck cord holder
Cover up the wrapped Nunchuck cord with the cover plate
Feed the Nunchuck cord to the Wii remote
Figure out what to do with the dangling Wii remote's wrist strap (Nintendo doesn't provide any mechanism for this)

After that process you can finally use the glorified Wii controller mount. Was that worth your effort? No way. Placing the Wii's controller in a gun-style stock is nonsensical. Your sighting down the device in no way relates to the reticle's placement on the screen. This is a limitation of the Wii's sensor bar. It's a one-size-fits-all affair so it can't be calibrated very precisely (besides top of the set versus bottom). The top (face) buttons on the Wii remote are impossible to use while the Zapper is in normal use. You will have to hold it in an awkward manner to operate them. The transposed "B" button (the trigger) seems cheesy. It is sloppy in feel.

    The pack-in game:

Link's Crossbow Training is a snore. It's a very shallow target shooter. The design is a direct rip off of Twilight Princess. The levels don't even appear to be changed significantly. Nintendo put the least amount of effort into this "game" as they possibly could.

    More Wii shovelware:

This is another example of a company trying to cash in on the Wii's popularity with another sub-par product. Avoid this like the plague. It has no redeeming qualities. You can actually be more successful at shooting games using the standard controller. This only impairs your abilities.

  • Almost demands that you fork over another $60
    By AUCVBTQIJ33B3 on 2007-12-31
Snapping in the Wiimote & nunchuk is sufficiently tedious that I would want to buy a dedicated Wiimote and nunchuk if I were planning to make heavy use of the zapper. (The cover that snaps on to the bottom of the nunchuk looks good for about ten in/out cycles before it gives up the ghost.)

Size is a bit small for my medium-sized adult male hands but just right for my six-year old.

Incompatible with the Nyko rechargeable battery pack, as the Nyko's thicker grippy back cover won't let you lock the Wiimote into the zapper.

Saving grace is Link's Crossbow Pack-in game, which is worth the price of the package.

  • Zapper terrible, Link great...
    By A25R8TPQEJ732W on 2007-12-06
I normally don't write reviews, but I just had to take time on this one. The Wii zapper is terrible. But the Link game is a lot of fun. So if you are interested in a Link shooting game, you can't beat the price ($20-25), but my brother and I were real disappointed in the zapper itself. We are both huge fans of shooting games and couldn't believe that Nintendo missed the boat on this peripheral. The main issue is that you can't calibrate the zapper to aim acurately, like you would a real gun. The only reason I can think of for this is that Nintendo didn't want to encourage the use of this item as a real gun. You don't have any choice but to "shoot from the hip". In my experience, the main reason to purchase an item like this would be to ENHANCE the gaming experience. But without the zapper, you pretty much have to shoot from the hip. So when you go to all the effort to fit your wiimote and nunchuck in this zapper contraption, you kind of expect it to function as a better aiming device, but it doesn't. I also have a PS3 and bought Time Crisis 4 with the Guncom (a "zapper" for the PS3). Now there are lots of different issues with that, but at least you can calibrate it to be very accurate and aim it like you would an actual gun.

  • Yet Another Nintendo Accessory
    By A3158Z5E4GL6D8 on 2007-11-20
Nintendo Accessories are pretty terrible. It all started with the power glove back in the day, and hasn't gone up hill any since.

Nintendo's secondary controllers and primary controller accessories never really seem to be thought through or tested that much. In this case, I was playing Umbrella Chronicles, which sometimes has you press buttons that are on top of the wiimote (such as A) when they flash on screen. If you aren't quick enough to press the button, then you get hurt or die. It's a lot harder to quickly press buttons on top of the wiimote when it rests on top of this zapper, and your hand is gripping the handle below it.

The link's crossbow training game that it comes with is fun though.

  • Worth the money for Link's crossbow training
    By A30KHSY3ZN3GH3 on 2007-11-21
I purchased and this yesteray, and played it for a couple of hours last night. The bundled game (Link's Crossbow Training) is definitely worth the purchase cost.

I'm not convinced that using the zapper enclosure is any better than just using the remote and nunchuck freehand, but it does make the "shooting" experience feel more authentic.

Purchase it for the game, and consider the zapper peripheral a bonus, and you'll be a happy Wii gamer....

  • Completely useless
    By A3JUMMIGJ7B38X on 2008-01-08
This is by far one of Nintendo's worst accessories. By reading through the reviews here you can tell what one of the major problems are: it takes too long and too much effort to assemble the gun, and the games that utilize it aren't worth that effort. Once assembled, it feels rather robust, although that little nunchuck cord holder will break for sure. Once you have the gun, forget any notion that you'll be able to effectively use any of the buttons on the remove other than B. Then comes the play control. Having the remove mounted on top of the light gun gives you MUCH less accuracy than you'd have if you were using just the remote by itself. Aiming and shooting is extremly clumsy, and the sensor bar's weakness is even more evident here.

Then comes Link's Crossbow Training. This game is a waste of time. It's overly difficult given the clumsiness of the gun, and it seems as though it was thrown together in a single day. It doesn't even come in a DVD case...just a cheap paper sleeve like Wii Sports. I played the game without the gun, and actually did much better while still being pleasantly challenged.

Finally, aside from 1 or 2 other games, there's no support for this. And like the NES Zapper, I foresee a huge shortage of support for this in the future (that Zapper only had Duck Hunt, Hogan's Alley and Gumshoe!). Save your money.

  • Pros and Cons of the Zapper...
    By A3O83Z0VAXY0FA on 2007-12-03
I had been looking forward to getting this since i saw it at the Nintendo conference and it was everything i was hopeing for. Was even better when i found it comes with a game. Links Crossbow.

Game: I enjoy the game, a lot people are saying they don't. It has multiple "rounds" where you do 3 shooting sessions. There are about 8 rounds i believe and some of the sessions include shooting targets that are moving down a waterfall, targets being carried and also enemy targets. Some sessions involve the joystick so you can move around while also looking around with the Zapper. That was a bit more confusing to me at first but after the first few tries it got easier.

    Pros of the Game:
Multiple Levels and never doing anything the same
Incorperate towns from the actual Zelda Game
You can shoot the pots and barrels for extra points

    Cons of the Game:
I can't actually think of any. You can do multiple player mode, and single. There are tons of different games to go through. I would like to be able to just pick 1 session sometimes, but you have to do all 3 in each round. You win medals which opens up the following round.

Zapper: I love this. I love that it comes with a game so even if you haven't found your shooting game just yet (MOH2 or Resident Evil are about the only ones right now) you can still shoot things and practice. Also test out your skills.

    Pros:
Light weight and easy to put wiimote and nunchuck in
    Helps with aim
    Makes the game more realistic
All around fun extra to have

    Cons:
There was a con to the zapper and it wasn't the fact that the trigger is NOT spring loaded. Though that would be cool, i find that it doesn't get stuck down so i can still fire very fast.

The con i found is merely because i now have the rechargeable battery station and the new back cover they give you will not allow you to put the Wiimote in the top portion of the Zapper with that back on. You also can not leave the battery pack in and put the old cover back on. So if you just feel like you don't have the 30 seconds to trade them out i'd take this into consideration. You'd have to keep trading back and forth if you wish to keep using the battery charge station and the zapper.

Another con i have come across recently is the backing that covers up the wrapped up nunchuck cord seems flimsy, sometimes it's just hard to get on and feels cheapy. The rest of the gun feels pretty solid to me, especially after you put the controls in place.

Over all i gave this 4 stars because i would have liked to see it adapt to the battery charge station, but once again the station is not nintendo brand so they do not make their extras mold to "off brand" items. Also a spring loaded trigger would have been cool, but not needed.

It's a fun extra to have and the game is fun too. I would definetly say get this when you can find it.

  • The Price is Right! But everything else is not
    By A3VC1CFK5X8Q4D on 2007-12-05
With a price tag of $19.99 (or if you paid $24.99 at other merchants like I did) it's not bad. First things first, the design of the wii zapper looks and feels cheap. On a scale of 1-5 I would give it's control scheme a 3/5. The aiming is great but due to the poor design of the sensor bar the experience may be less pleasant. One thing I've noticed is if you move too much to either side of the screen in games the cross hair can get stuck in the corner if you're not careful! Thus making the response poor. Moving along...Link's crossbow training is a fun and simple game, the levels are pretty short just point and shoot. There are 3 game modes. Link's crossbow training work exceptionally well with the wii zapper however this is not the case for other games like Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Medal of Honor: Heroes 2. The wii zapper feels bulky and some buttons are inaccessible due to the wii remote's placement on top. For this reason I feel always having to reach over to press the important buttons can ruin your game play. On a positive note, the gun has a neat design and the wii remote and nunchuk firmly holds into it's place. I still prefer to play the games supported by the wii zapper with just the nunchuk and wii remote. I prefer this much more than using the wii zapper simply because my hands can move around freely with the controllers, opposed to them being stuck on the zapper. I would not purchase the wii zapper unless you want crossbow training, that was my main reason.

  • Great Game included but the Zapper is not too confortable
    By A1GYRBMHVS7P3P on 2007-12-22
I been playing with the Zapper for a few days (Umbrella and Link's Crossbow) and the first thing I noticed is that the right hand goes in front and the left hand in the back of the Zapper. For most of us that are right handed this can be awkward as with any type of gun/shotgun peripheral I feel compelled to have my right hand in the back and the left hand in front (If you don't believe me, pretend that you are holding a shotgun and see where your arms end up). I'm no expert but this just seems to feel more natural. I found the only decent way to play with the Zapper is to use the nunchuck detached from the Zapper (held with your left hand) leaving a bulky unused piece of plastic hitting your right forearm. This makes me wonder if I should have bought just a plain wii gun.

I found that the Link game was a lot fun and that's why I gave the Zapper a higher rating. The Zapper alone would have probably gotten 2 stars at most. If you don't care for Link Crossbow training, you might want to try other alternatives.

  • Sights over Reticle
    By A350BXS6R9SQAT on 2007-11-22
I really like this game, but I hate the fact it doesn't have sights. The reticle makes it feel cheap. I want my aiming skills to mean something.
Any nimrod can move the crosshairs to the target.

It wouldn't be that hard to zero your weapon before you start playing.

    Still like the game though.

  • Fun, Useful, and Inexpensive Package
    By A33LM30J987Q65 on 2007-11-26
Sure, Link's training could have been a deeper experience, but for 20$ the game with Zapper is a fantastic value.
Link's Crossbow Training is a shooter with different level types. Some feature Link in a fixed position, others actually require you to move around. The game is good, but shallow - you can clear it in about an hour. The biggest negative thing I would say is that there is no co-operative 2 player mode. The great Twilight Princess locations are the basis of the levels and it will really make you want to go back and play Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
The Zapper itself is comfortable to use and despite some older Wii games that cannot function well with it (Call Of Duty 3 among others do not work with the Zapper), others like Elebits become much easier to control. Also some of the new shooter games like Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Ghost Squad have special Zapper settings.
Sure, ultimately you are buying a piece of plastic to shove the controller into, but I would certainly prefer to use the Zapper with any compatible game. Perhaps most importantly, the Zapper simply doesn't strain your wrist like holding the Wii-mote does, especially for any long gaming session.

  • More Fun than the Old Duck Hunter
    By A1KCILAEW6ULN4 on 2007-12-25
I really thought this was going to be a pared down game designed simply as a teaser for future games using the zapper - I was wrong! This game is nice as a stand-alone. It has several different forms of target practice that get you accustomed to aiming and shooting with the zapper. You can compete against yourself or others (offline multi-player).

I have long missed the days of the original Duck Hunter. I just loved that aim and shoot feel - this is sooo.. much better. I'm looking forward to more Zapper titles, but am perfectly happy with this title as it stands!

Also, the zapper itself feels of solid construction, and I like the tommy gun style grip. Great fun for all skill levels. Easy to pick up, and hard to put down!

  • Well worth the price!

I bought two of these yesterday and I can tell you it's worth it just for the crossbow training game included! The graphics are gorgeous and the gameplay great fun... only one compaint... it appears that you can't use two of these together with the inlcuded game... muliplayer involves giving the gun to someone else! I have ordered other games that are Zapper approved and hopefully I will be able to use the second Zapper. The Zapper taps into the Wii tech brilliantly... it's so much fun when you get the rapid fire mode firing at the skeletons... with the vibration and the built in speaker on the controller you feel like you are playing an expensive game in the arcades!

    UPDATE:
I just got Ghost squad and played with the Wii zapper and it was loads of fun! Just be sure to go into the options menu and change the control scheme to Zapper... as the default control scheme has you using the A button which of course is not easy to reach... once you change it to the Zapper the button you have to press is on the nanchuck making the game a joy to play! Oh and it supports up to four players using the Zappers shooting all at the same time! Forget about your dismal light gun experiences of the past this is extremely accurate and loads of fun!

I bought my Wii Zapper last night and I love it. Everyone is having a blaster using it. Link Crossbrow training is well worth paying the $25.00. I dont like the fact that the price changed from 19.99 to 25.00 but as I said it was worth it. It would be cool if you could get online and play against other people.

I have two of these Zappers. I decided to go ahead and pick them up for Medal of Honor Heros 2, Ghost Squad, and Resident Evil: UC. Let me tell you, it was well worth it! I have noticed an increase in my skill when playing online against other people in the Heros game. It makes moving and shooting much easier having the remote and nunchuk both together on the same device. I plan on using the second one for Multi/Co-Op with Ghost Squad and Resident Evil when they arrive. The Link game that comes with the Zapper is fun too but I almost put that into the category of Wii Play, a nice addition for sure but not much long lasting appeal. It is awesome that Nintendo is packaging it with the Zapper though. The only reason this item does not get five stars is because it is not a have to have, in my honest opinion. Just something that makes some games that support it a little more interesting or different.

For $25 this game is a tremendous deal. There is no way you can go wrong with the purchase of the zapper.

  • Adds to the value of the Wii!

The zapper peripheral is basically a big gun shaped piece of plastic that has absolutely no inner wiring unlike the original zapper released for Duck Hunt, back in the NES days.

You slide in your Wii-mote, and you can either hold the nunchuk in your other hand (if the game demands it or if you are more comfortable that way) or place in the rear of the gun and hold the gun with 2 hands. There is a little compartment for the wire that goes from your Wii-mote to your nunchuk. All in all, its a neat little package. Now, just point and shoot. Its very fun, and adds to the interactivity and fun of games that are compatible with it.
    Ghost Squad
    Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles

The zapper for me is pretty ergonomically correct, I'm a girl with small/medium sized hands, but I would imagine for people with big hands, that your knuckles MIGHT hurt after a long while.

The Zelda game is very fun and even has a multiplayer mode up to 4 people. Basically its targeting, well...targets, as well as enemies and a few bosses for points. There are different levels, each with different levels of difficulty, and in order to unlock the next one, you must obtain a minimum score that wins you a bronze medal.

Pick this up at Walmart if you want it for less than 24.99 (the retail practically everywhere else)...you can get this for 19.99. Not bad for a peripheral and a mini game.

  • Wii Zapper is more than a gimmicky peripheral
    By A266RF9G200JIV on 2007-12-04
I just acquired a Wii Zapper. When I first saw the design prototype some months ago, my initial thoughts were "Oh no, not another gimmick from Nintendo." I was not displeased.

The unit is basically a plastic frame which places both the Wiimote and Nunchuck in a more natural position in order to serve as a light gun (the B button is converted to a trigger button as the light gun's trigger presses down on the concealed button). This makes it incredibly easy to balance over the traditional Wiimote/Nunchuck setup. As someone who has hypoglicemia, and thus doesn't have as much of a steady aim due to the traditional set-up, I found it an incredible help.

The game comes packed with Link's Crossbow Training. For a game that comes free with a $20 unit, I found it well worth the value. There are a series of games, with both stationary and moving targets, and levels similar to a third person shooter. The game is a taste of what the Wii Zapper is capable of and actually had me excited for some of the prospects for the system. I have to admit, I'm not much of a shooting game fan, but the unit's ease of controls opened me up to the possibility of playing games which utilize this unit. Plus, the multi-player mode makes the game an incredible party game as a group of up to four players takes turns using the unit in an attempt to best one another's score.

There are some who may reject this unit because they read on some magazine or website that Link's Crossbow Training wasn't that great of a game. Ignore those reviews. It is not fair to lump a free game on the same level as a game you have to shell out $50 for. For its price, it is an incredible game. However, the Wii Zapper also works for such games as Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and Medal of Honor: Heroes 2. I think LCT makes an interesting diversion until consumers are able to purchase the other games. Because of its ease of use, I feel that Wii Zapper functionality will become a standard for those who desire to make any shooting game for the Wii.

  • Design is contradictory
    By A2WFF33VYJXJNS on 2008-02-02
Been having a hard time with the game because the zapper is designed to be held as if it were some type of machine gun, except the crossbow training game demands precision shooting that doesn't match the design of the gun. It would be one thing if you could just hold down the trigger and blow everything away but having to use a trigger as far up as it is limits how long you can play because your wrist will get sore because of the awkward angle you have to hold the gun at.

It's worth 20 bucks for the crossbow shooting game but i find it alot easier to just use the wiimote on its own

  • A Must Have Wii Peripheral

@ 1st Glance the package/the way it is Presented looks very lame. Nintendo is Great at proving Looks can be very deceiving when it comes to any of there Products!
The Wii Zapper is one of the smartest ideas Nintendo has Released!

Putting it 2geather is easy N/P
The way I look at it You are Purchasing Link's Crossbow Training and getting the Zapper 4Free!
The price is a steal, Works great with Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles

This is just one more reason to buy the Wii if you haven't already. I just played the Links and Medal of Honor Heroes 2. I felt like I was in the battle. For the price it's a no brainer.
