  • Should be better

    By A169CJ2NJQYIM6 on 2008-03-22
A fantastic follow-up to the best FPS in history. Halo 3, while it had a fantastic story, just isn't nearly as good as the Rainbow series in terms of gameplay. I'll start with the positives...

The weapons are fantastic. The way they shoot, the way they sound, and the way they look. They added a few new weapons, but I'd have liked to see a lot more. In addition, only being able to put one attachment on is a little silly. If you put high cap magazines on, for example, you can't have a scope. Unrealistic to the point of being silly.

They allow us to once again play cooperatively via split screen, online, or system link. THANK YOU! So few devs are letting co-op play get the attention it deserves, and they wonder why their games don't sell.

The new leveling system is wonderful. In the first game, the only way you could unlock the cool looking gear was to play versus online. And guess what? Not everyone likes to do that. This version allows you to get all the experience either online in versus mode, or playing the Co-op story or terrorist hunt.

Wonderful multiplayer options. You have your story, of course, and terrorist hunt, which gives the game unlimited replayability. The new online modes are cool too, if you're into that.

A few "negatives" for the game. First, the difficulty. Some of the silly reviewers found it so difficult that they gave it only one or two stars. Apparently they felt it was just that bad. The game is certainly more difficult than the first game, it sort of has to be. It had to be balanced to allow multiple human players. So although it may be a bit tough on single player, it is perfect when you have your buddies playing with you.

The player customization feature is nice, but unusually limited. In addition, the facial features like facial hair--all look the same. The pictures look different, but when its mapped onto the actual character, they don't really look any different at all. The goatee version--doesn't even have a goatee, lol. This is a mild complaint, because with camo and gear on your head, you never see the face much.

Not a lot of new weapons. Some people may not like the new "kit" system, but I think its pretty nicely done overall.

In a way it does feel like an expansion, as there aren't a lot of new features, but who cares? The first game was the best ever, and I'm perfectly happy having a bunch of new levels to play. They did add the sprint button, which is nice as well.

The BIG problem with this game was one that they claimed to have fixed after the first game. The spawning problem. For those of you who don't know, it is not uncommon at all for terrorists to appear, as if by magic, right in front of you--or behind you, in a room you had just cleared. Instead of populating the map with terrorists at the beginning, they sprinkle them in throughout--there is really no excuse for this. It is lazy game design and purely irresponsible.

And their idea of "difficulty" levels is just as bad as everyone else's. Instead of the logical thing, throwing more enemies at you, they just take away half of your ammo and reduce the number of respawns. Again, lazy design. I would have liked to change my rating from five stars to only 4, or even 3.5.

  • Good, but not Great

    By A10JWJA4R6O7JI on 2008-03-20
I must say, after hours of play, I am disappointed with the results. It feels a lot like RB6V (original)...I still love the game and love the series, but I found this game to be lacking as a sequel. I love the fact that you can sprint now. This is a big plus because the game feels like you are moving too slow sometimes. Going from COD4 back to RB6V feels awkward. Two totally different style of games here. Throwing grenades is a bit frustrating as it will only travel a few feet in front of you. I have also unloaded 2 clips of bullets at the enemy (sometimes) and they simply don't die. I went online to try the online play and it is severely lacking! Some maps are way too small! I do love the convention center though. The game had serious lag, most likely due to everyone signing on last night. It cleared itself up in the long run. The matches are entirely too short to the point of absurd. We played a match that literally lasted 30 seconds. It was unreal! After the match, you are forced to back out of the room and start from the menu again. It felt like a chore just to play online. I find that Team Deathmatches are the longest lasting even though there is no real objective, just kill as many people as you can. That can get boring though. I prefer longer matches in all situations. That's what make a game a great game. They just seemed to be more focused on the campaign this go around. The campaign is running smoothly and I would recommend this game only for that reason. The online play is totally frustrating and not worth the cash you pay for 360Live and the game itself. Even if you host a room and the match is over, you can only "quit game" or view stats from the match. It's ridiculous!!! I am so disappointed with the online play! I am hoping to have a good campaign to make it all worth while. The campaign is nicely done, however in very good gun battle scenes, the screen lags really bad (not online). I like the story that is being put together right now. In closing, I do like the actual game itself. That's why I gave it 4 stars. But I would give the online play 1 star only! Call of Duty has my vote (online) and I thought I would never say that when up against RB6V!!!

    Campaign vote-RB6V2

    Online vote-COD4

  • Vegas 2?? Where is Las Vegas?

    By ASB4QQBKZD6W2 on 2008-03-23
We're supposed to believe that this is a sequel to RSV1, and all of the advertisements show the casinos, etc. However, only one Act of this game is based in the traditional "Las Vegas"-style setting. Most of this game is based on standard office buildings, high-rises, etc, with none of the glitz and glamour that the original Vegas offered. I got this game on Thursday and was done with the single player missions w/in 8 hours. Definitely a short game, because they want you to play online.

Not a real improvement from the first one.

  • Rainbow Six Vegas, refined

    By A2GVVAO242EK1D on 2008-03-20
RSV2 is every bit a refinement of the original. Being a Rainbow Six game it is challenging and you will die countless times having no idea who killed you or where the shot came from. RSV2 now has three difficulty settings but casual seems a bit more challenging than it was on the first RSV.

For all intents and purposes you are essentially paying a premium to play RSV with new levels and weapons, which isn't a bad thing perse, providing the refinements and changes do add and improve the game. Playing through the single player campaign the enemy AI may be slightly improved, it is much more aggressive, with enemies running at you like kamikaze warriors at times. The AI for your squad mates seems to be much worse than the original. It is adequate but could be much better, its surprising that the AI would take a step backward when the game is developed by the same studio that made the first. They will sometimes do very stupid things, like stand in the open and get shot, or run in front of your fire. Or the best, run in front of you as you throw a grenade, which means death for the whole team. They also tend to follow you very closely which can become a pain when you can't escape enemy rounds because your guys won't get out of the way.

The ability to sprint prevents a few grenade deaths, but doesn't take anything away from the tactical shooting aspect. So those fearing that RSV was moving too far towards the COD style need not worry. The new weapons are nice and the balance between the different types seems to be better. Terrorist hunt returns, this time with the ability to take your AI squad mates with you if you want. Of course the best part of terrorist hunt is the ability to play with for of your friend online and RSV2 doesn't disappoint. You are also able to play through the entire campaign with one friend online now, with the primary player also controlling the AI squad. I preferred the ability to play through it with four people online but Ubisoft didn't ask me.

The ability to customize your character in the campaign mode is a nice touch and you can show all off the cool gear you unlock in both campaign and multiplayer now. If you unlocked everything on the original RSV multiplayer you will see all the same items here, all ready to be unlocked again at almost the same ranks. The fact that you now gain experience in both campaign and online multiplayer is an excellent addition.

I am not too sure how found I am of the ACRES system, which is they system that unlocks your weapons bases on your style of play. I enjoyed the ability to be able to use any weapon on the campaign in the original and unlocking new weapons and gear on the online mode. The fact that you have to actively kill enemies in a certain manner to unlock a weapon you might really want seems a little unneeded to me.

I have found a few bugs on my game so far. I have put almost a hundred rounds into an enemy while blind firing around a corned and just watched him dance with the rounds, which is funny but not right. Every time I have then leaned out into the door and shot he would die instantly. Several times my weapon has disappeared and left me just walking around waiting to die. It always corrects itself when you reload your check point but its annoying. And speaking of annoying the checkpoint save system is terrible, you will spend a lot of time player through the same part of a level because the developers like to give you a really hard firefight just before a save point. Which means you might play through several tough firefights, then hit the hard one, die and have to do it all again. And as much as you die in any Rainbow Six game this can become very annoying.

The original RSV was the best tactical shooter available on the 360 and RSV2 does a great job of following it up. If you are new to the series RSV2 is a great place to start, and if you love the series you are going to pick it up anyway. A few people will be disappointed at having to pay full price for a not entirely new game. But most people should be quite happy with it. I recommend it highly.

  • Disappointing

    By A17U3HDG5X4F9C on 2008-03-28
Sadly, this game does not live up to the first Vegas at all. Perhaps, if this had come out a year ago, it would have seemed like a great game. But for today's games, it is just sub-par.

The graphics are improved over Vegas 1, so that is one of the few pluses to the game. The other really good feature is that you can create a character and play as that character in every mode. Truly a cool feature that I hope more games will use. However, the SP mode is fairly boring and visually blah. There are also frame rate issues that crop up on a couple of levels in the SP mode. The way the story is wrapped up felt cheap and made the entire story less meaningful.

But really, most of us got R6V2 for the MP. And that is what makes it most disappointing. Because the MP guts what was great about the first Vegas. The levels are far too small. In the original, it was easy to go 20 minutes on an Attack and Defend. In the newer levels, 5 minutes seems to be the average. Because of the size of the levels, the 'tactical' aspect has been lost too. There are very few places to duck down and defend a room from. Instead, you're mostly either standing and waiting, or running and shooting wildly inaccurate weapons at each other until one of you dies. This is really the biggest letdown for me. I was looking for more of the same in MP and instead, it is not enjoyable at all. Add to that the poor matchmaking and lag and it's just not a fun experience. It's not the worst game by any means, but it doesn't live up to the first Vegas at all.

  • Awesome Sequel
    By A1KSGNQVO68T7X on 2008-03-18
A great sequel to a great game, exactly what I wanted, co-op is perfect, its cool that your friends can join in progress. If you are a fan of swat based shooters and want something different then call of duty 4, then you have to pick this game up!!

  • Perhaps I was expecting too much...
    By ANUFNLN9MK3DF on 2008-03-20
After playing this game for the past 5 hours, I must say that overall I am less than pleased. In my opinion, this would be better off as a $29.99 expansion pack to Vegas 1. There is not much new here to truly consider this a stand-alone sequel. Too much of it feels "carried over" from Vegas 1. Even some of the online terrorist elimination maps are identical. I do like the new leveling system, but that's about the biggest new feature on this game worth mentioning. If you loved Vegas 1, then you will obviously love this game, as it feels like a continuation of the original. As I stated in my title, I guess I was expecting more new features that would make this stand apart from the original.

  • No BS, just the truth
    By A12AHC2OCCG7IW on 2008-03-20
This game is fun, but as you're playing it, you'll realize it's a lot like the first Vegas. You'll have a feeing of "been there, done that" except that the first Vegas was intense.

There's new improvements in RSV2, like a run button and the actual number of grenades and explosives your teammates are carrying.

The only real problems with RSV2 are ugly environments, AI sometimes acting strange, and lag. Sometimes the game gets so laggy that it's literally choppy, especially when smoke is on screen.

Rent before you buy it. It's a good game, but it won't surprise you or feel like a must-have.

  • Unimpressed with the NEW R6
    By A39XLT95S7SJRF on 2008-03-22
    First the good
-The game has some cool new weapons and armor.
-Cool new features like getting points for your character in single player story mode.
-Sprinting has saved me a couple times..
-It is a fun game to play in single player story mode, its a bit harder than the first and you need a more tactical approach to the levels in this one.

    Now the not so good
-Mainly the graphics! They REALLY disappointed me. They are sub-par for a game thats been in production for 2 years and it looks like not much has changed since the first one. The environments look blocky and unrefined! I was really bummed about this!!
-There are a few irritating bugs, like frame-rate drops for no apparent reason and some team AI quirks.
-The checkpoints in SP are horrible.
-Online play isn't comparable to other shooters, mainly COD4. Severe lag, short matches and is a nightmare to even get into an online match, for me at least.

My advise is if you're reading these reviews wait until the price drops or when you can pick it up used. In my opinion its not worth full price right now unless you're a fan of the series.

  • SUB-PAR for the course

First off, a little background info so you know where i am coming from...

    I AM:

    1. an average joe
    2. a casual xbox live gamer who spends less than 10-12 hours a week playing games.
    3. a HUGE fan of the Rainbow Six series for the past 10 years and have played them all.

    STORY MODE REVIEW

Pro: graphics have improved from the first one. not an incredible difference but noticeable.

Con: framerate is still low (I'm guessing like 30fps) and when you pan to the side to aim quickly it can become a hindrance.

Con: framerate drops during some parts of the game.

Pro: there are less menus to sift through.

Pro: you can create your own protagonist and play him/her offline and online in both story/t-hunt and multiplayer.

The PEC is integrated into the front page as it is the central base station of the vegas experience.

Pro: you get a xp bonus if you are a returning Elite which puts you at specialist rank with a few unlocks like flight helmet and ballistic mask.

Con: I did not get the achievement for skipping Private First Class rank.

Pro: the first level is cool, set in a snowy mountain setting. Why couldnt they have this kind of environment for a multiplayer map?

Pro: I'm liking the location settings much better in this version than vegas 1.

Pro: although still a "linear story scripting" experience, you are provided with multiple entry points, and a few options of how to take down a room. at least more so than vegas 1, and even more so than Black Arrow.

Con: the girl in the chopper has to spell it out for you though. You dont really need to think for yourself. She basically tells you all the options rather than having you figure it out with your team.

Example, there is one level you are in the rec center which is quite large. You need to go from area to area and clear each section. But you have a couple ways to do this. There is one part that you can go up to the roof and snipe through the skylight and have your team clear the bottom floors. Or you can enter from the 2nd floor, or the first floor. There are at least 4-5 different ways to take this section down. But the helicopter lady basically tells you outright what you should do.

Pro: they removed the on-screen radar in story mode and replaced it with "temporary thermal scan".

The way it works is you can trigger it when it comes online and it will scan the room for a few seconds, giving thermal signatures on the mini radar map. When it is all used up you have to wait some time before it comes online again.

Con: I actually find the thermal scan kind of a useless feature and i almost never use it.

Con: Incompetent teammates return with their running out in the open, getting shot and getting you killed trying to medic them all over again. Not much improvement in the player AI despite what Ubi claims. 80% of the time I leave them behind.

Con: enemy AI still has some problems such as standing out in the open while getting shot at, or sometimes they run towards you and stop right in front of you (if you dont shoot them) and just fire like a zombie rather than return fire defensively. I have yet to see enemies cover their movement as they advance to your position like advertised.

Pro: weapon attachment settings are saved and "remembered" each time you play.

Pro: in the first 3 chapters of the game so far, ive gotten healthy use out of my SR25SD rifle as enemies seem to spawn further out. Combined with large scale and open locales, makes for pretty good long range shooting.

    TERRORIST HUNT REVIEW

Pro: its still fun to play for the most part with 4 friends messing around.

Con: same old same old... enemies still spawn out of thin air in front or behind you.

Con: really cheap AI that actually use the cover glitch against you.

Con: enemy Ai has not improved, as they still get stuck behind objects, run up to your face spraying P90 or magic Spas12 rather than cover their movements.

Con: still has a glitch where you "cant find last terrorist".

    MULTIPLAYER ADVERSARIAL REVIEW

Pro: Team Leader mode is a good addition.

Con: They shouldnt have sacrificed VIP in its stead.

Con: I'm having serious connecivity issues that many others are experiencing. I can't host games most of the time because sometimes no one can see or join my server. Also can't join any one else's server even when invited. This alone would be a deal-breaker for me.

Con: framerate drops even in MP (different from internet lag). The graphics slow down to a crawl (mostly happens when too many grenades explode).

Con: freezing and lockups. I have experienced quite a bit of game freezing.

Con: dubious amount of bugs and glitches. Most of the Vegas 1 glitches have returned unfixed.

Pro: multiplayer graphics are much better than they were in vegas 1. Now the MP and SP graphics are are a little more similar.

Con: lag and host advantage are still issues to the same degree as vegas 1 maybe even worse.

Pro: shooting through objects is a MUCH welcome addition to this game.

Con: COVER GLITCH 100% intact. In case you do not know what the cover glitch is, it is when someone takes cover behind an object that conceals his entire body from his enemy and he is able to freely shoot through the cover without ever exposing his body. Even with bullet penetration, you still cannot shoot back at a cover glitcher when he is behind "safe cover".

Con: shouldering aka perspective glitch aka cornering glitch still 100% intact. Shouldering is when a player is shooting very close the the corner of a wall and only a fraction of his body is visible to his opponent, usually just an elbow. Different from Cover Glitch in that this is done in first person not while in cover mode.

Pro: aiming penalty when popping out of cover is a welcome addition.

Con: "dotting screen" or "vision menu cheating" is still effective despite the penalty.

Con: radar toggle is individual option, not host option. Makes NO SENSE whatsoever.

Con: still lacks BASIC server toggles for many aspects of the game.

Pro: they kept the running speed of players slow, and even with the addition of sprint, this game is not hyper paced like many other shooters.

    Pro: custom faces load quicker

    BOTTOM LINE:

The graphics fall below par for the course as COD4 really set the standards quite high. This game lacks originality. All the gameplay elements are not new innovations. They are gameplay elements taken from existing games and implemented into this one. There is nothing innovative about this game. The best thing Vegas 2 has going for it is the ability to create a custom character with custom face and play it both online and off. I personally do not care for ACES or ranking up, or unlocking weapons, so none of those "features" impress me.

The story mode is short and lacks depth. This game has absolutely no replayability since the story mode is so linear (there is only one way to play it) and the online is non-functional and bug-ridden.

This game is not realistic IN ANY WAY. If you are a fan of the older Rainbow games, you already know this game wont offer anything for you as it is nothing like the first 3 titles (in a bad way). But then again many returning Vegas fans are very disappointed with this title as well.

This game has serious issues that need to be addressed, mostly crippled in the online multiplayer department. It is virtually unplayable. It is apparent to me that this game was rushed out the door with minimal testing. I feel this is not worth the $60 price tag and I honestly regret buying it. I will be getting rid of my game and going back to COD4.

  • Tons of fun, until...
    By A19K77P0MU6EL8 on 2008-04-03
This game cruises along nicely and is a lot of fun, until you get to the oil refinery level where they take your teammates away and give the bad guys super human powers of observation and the ability to kill you when you are not even in their line of sight. At this point the game totally bogs down and after a few hours of constant dying all of your neighbors will know what you think of this game because you will be screaming at your T.V. about how bad this game sucks.

  • vegas 2?
    By A100JCBNALJFAW on 2008-03-20
well after playing single player and multiplay i must say single player is better than the first but the multiplay falls flat. it seems as if they did nothing to make multiplayer better besides adding a run button.
this feels more like a map pack than a sequel.

  • Tons on glitches and freezing
    By A3UUSH3JTXWZIB on 2008-03-22
I bought this game on Tuesday and had several times where tha game has frozen to where my controller wont even shut down. I have also had alot of glitches where my teamates will jitter back and forth and not respond to where I send them. I have to go back to them, lead them to a different location with me and hope they dont freeze again. Wasted about 10 minutes getting them unstuck in the parking garage. I will be returning this one tomorrow. I think they ran out of things to do with this one.

  • R6V2 vs. COD4 vs. R6V1 and all the other reviews
    By A27VM2YYLRYM14 on 2008-03-24
Experience: I started with Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon then Rainbow 6 then Rainbow Six Vegas for XBOX360. They were the games I played all year. (I did play Halo 1,2,& 3, Gears of War, FEAR, Half-Life but preferred R6)

COD4: Call of Duty 4 is the first game that took me away for the Rainbow 6 series. So,I was excited about R6V2, thinking how they were going to improve the previous game R6V and beat COD4! They didn't.

Why COD4 is better than R6V2:
As with EVERY review on here, I agree, COD4 beats R6V2 hands down. R6V2 felt like I put in the first R6V. After playing COD4, the R6V2 felt very slow. If you notice... anyone comparing COD4 to R6V2 prefers COD4. The people I personally know playing R6V2 are the one that never bought COD4.
I basically played single player and multiplayer for a couple of hours each and then put the game back, listed it online for sale, and put back in COD4. The entire time I felt "Why am I playing this game (R6V2) when I have a better one (COD4)?"

    One reason to buy R6V2
Here is the one reason to buy R6V2. If you want to play co-op with a buddy or terroist hunt with 2-4 players. Everything else COD4 is a better experience.

    COD4 -
    1. Has a matching system so you play in a room right away.
    2. Lets you continue to play in the same room.
    3. Lets you bring friends with you to play matches.
    4. Lets you set private matches and control diffrent aspects of the game.
    5. Has different modes so you can play games like R6V2 search and destroy hardcore (no respawing and one shot kills) to Halo type games with lots of shots to kill, pickups and super jumps (old school mode). Normally it is a good blend of one to three shots for a kill.

I know I missed a lot, but my recomendation is COD4 and save the money till a better game comes out.

  • XBOX Live has destroyed the single player experience.
    By A3A06T9YE3GAA on 2008-03-27
I bought this game yesterday. I played on and off since then, between classes and a few hours at night, and then this afternoon... until I finished it. In less than 8 hours. Are you serious???! XBOX Live's popularity seems to have single handedly killed the single player game. I don't use XBOX Live. I don't need a 60 dollar paperweight. Don't buy this if you're expecting an immersive, detailed single player experience. The continuation of the story from the first Vegas is nearly unexistant. This isn't to say that the gameplay isn't fantastic, but when it ends so abruptly, you'd be disappointed too!

I am a HUGE fan of the first game and this game really let me down. If you haven't played the first Vegas yet, get that instead. You don't lose out on much from the "improvements" in R6V2, and the story was much better and longer.

  • The best FPS on the market thus far
    By A2S2R84O5P7RYV on 2008-03-19
As good as the first with excellent additions. I love this game and ANY fps fan will love it as well. Excellent play control, love the graphics and this time if you have a xbox live vision camera you're able to load a picture of yourself and play with that character in story mode without being online! My title says it all. The BEST FPS on the market thus far. Army of Two is about to collect dust. But to each their own. If you're not a FPS player then you should pass. Most people now these days find the smallest things to make a complaint or a reason why a game isn't good when overall they just may not be a good videogame player or that particular game just isn't for them. There's a fact that there are players out there in denial about knowing how to play a game and blame the game instead of their skills. There's plenty of shabby games that actually deserve bashing. Then you have companies who make good games but never really change too much. Rainbow Six falls in that category. If it's not broke then don't fix it. Keep it going untill it gets old. "Nuff Said"

  • Expansion Pack?
    By A1A89LQ8C1AYV1 on 2008-03-19
True fans of the series will undoubtedly love this game for everything that it is. What is it? It's a lot of the same as the first Rainbow Six Vegas, with a few tweeks here and there. Graphically, it's not really much of an improvement over the original. The textures and particle effects aren't really anything to write home about, but that's not to say they are bad. It's just that next gen titles should meet a higher bar as time goes by. We do get to see the seedier side of Vegas in terms of strip clubs, back alleys, and the like. The gun play is still a lot of fun and challenging. The ability to customize your character is also a lot of fun. There are a whole host of different multiplayer options for you to choose from. I thought UT3 had a lot, but that's nothing compared to Vegas 2. Because there weren't a lot of other improvements to this edition, it seems more like an expansion pack than a sequel. I would still recommend it.

  • Rainbow Six Vegas has an encore!
    By AUQ3CL1QIY32T on 2008-03-20
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 was well worth the wait. The graphics are much improved from the last edition with weapons, the operatives and the environment all getting an upgrade.

I will say that it's disappointing that with COD4's outstanding graphics, games can not just pick up where COD4 left off, so it is a bit of a step back from COD4's graphics.

When you look at RBSV2 you can not try to compare the game itself with COD4 for some pretty obvious reasons. COD4 is a run and gun, weapons driven game with air strikes and helicopters. RSV2 is a tactical shooter with moments of intense stress on the heart (try terrorist hunt on realistic) and a game in which success relies on being patient and finding good positions to attack.

RSV2's maps are absolutely amazing. Graphically they still are quite pretty, but it's the deep amount of routes and places to get up against that makes this game so successful. From a Theater to a Japanese Casino -- or even to a beautiful Villa by the beach, RSV2 delivers all sorts of environments to get your shooting pleasures fulfilled.

Another great feature to RSV2 is the ability to earn XP points towards new weapons and camo in single player mode or in Terrorist Hunt -- FANTASTIC! Better yet, in Terrorist Hunt your friends in the game earn you XP for their kills. Just yesterday I played this for an hour and ranked up faster than I would have if I played online for three hours.

Negatives? Well, my biggest complaint with RSV2 is the lack of a Melee system. The problem occurs when you are face to face with an enemy and you are both out of ammo and must reload. Rather than a quick slash with a nife, you have to switch weapons or reload and it can be rather frustrating. A Melee system would have been a great edition.

Grenades. The grenades system was poorly implemented and is tough to get the hang of. You must hold down the 'b' button for some time to get any distance on the 'nade and if you don't get enough of an angle on the throw your man will simply flop the grenade about 5 feet (or less).

All in all, I haven't put the game down since yesterday. It is a staple in my Xbox 360 until I get sick of it and want to go back to running and gunning on COD4. COD4 will not be dethroned as the best FPS on the 360, but RSV2 is by far the most thrilling and fun Tactical shooter on the 360 and if you like Tactical shooters better than the Halo/COD4 type game then this could possibly be the best game out on 360 for you right now.

  • A shame from Ubisoft
    By AJP6K8HK55HEC on 2008-03-21
Wow, it took me less than 18 h to beat this game... The AI is just bad, it reminds me of some of my first shooter 10-12 years ago!!! The control are clumsy, must be remapped, and the game crashed 4 time on my 360.... I am REALLY disapointed, RSV 1 was such a great game

It's Funny to read the comments from "user" on my review: Looks like Ubisoft PR is trying hard to save this game from the hall of shame.

  • Slight Improvements, But Mostly a $60 Map Pack...
    By A32KSZ46Y1PEN1 on 2008-03-21
IF you're a big fan of the first one you will no doubt like this game a lot. It's basically the same game with a few minor improvements. I was disappointed they chose Vegas again as the location. My buddy's suggestion of DC would be cool as would many other locations (LA, NYC, etc). They even repackaged many of the multi-player maps. Like others have said, they added a run option, made the graphics slightly better, and allow you to shoot through weak cover (plywood, soft walls, etc).

All that being said I enjoy playing the game and don't regret the purchase. Just know going into it that you're paying for more of the same... Which isn't so bad considering how good the first one was.

  • Very Disappointing, Especially If You Have COD4
    By A2OK8EY91IRCZ3 on 2008-03-22
This game is a huge letdown. The graphics, while good compared to most games, are not in the same league as COD4. The game, at least the online play, is not nearly as smooth as COD4, close combat is awkward, and the game is just lacking. The graphics lack the refinements, small movements and details that COD4 has. I'm prob going to play for a few more days and just sell the game. It's not nearly as fun as COD4, and the camping, cheapness, etc. that existed in the first Rainbow Six, continue on in this game.

  • Disappointing - Seriously
    By AO51NA9K8C4U2 on 2008-03-23
Just bought the game, and this was the worste 60 dollars spent. Graphics are nothing to brag about. Gameplay is nothing special, feels like I am playing a game that game out years ago. Tom Clancy needs to step his game up. I will be returning this game to EB Games ASAP. COD4 for the win.
    Do Not Buy!!!

  • Retread of good game equals junk
    By A17XT52L53X4YC on 2008-05-26
I just finished wasting my time on yet another video game. As you can tell by the title it was Rainbow Six: Vegas 2. And as you can also tell by the title I thought it was a total piece of crap. Now, I really liked the first one, Rainbow Six: Vegas. It was a lot of fun. The story is kind of vague but enough to pay attention to and know what was driving the story. This game, Vegas 2, is like the ultimate phoned in piece of junk I have ever played. Somehow they took a fun game and made it tedious and repetitive. Zero new in the game. Somehow the AI is dumber. Audio mix ALL over the place. half the time I had no idea what people were saying because of fire too close by, or we were in a helicopter or they appeared to be mumbling about something I assumed was plot related but usually didn't matter since you can't really get lost or proceed past your objective. I really can't say anything good about this game. When it was too hard it was like pretty insanely hard at the normal level. When it was not hard it was just repetitive and annoying.

Possibly the lamest thing was that the fact that your AI soldier guys say like 3-4 things MAX. So if you like hearing "WHO-AA!" or "Anyone keeping score?" or "Tango Down" or some variation you're in for a treat! If not it get really boring fast. Next thing about them is that they get stuck. Like in a puddle of water. Or behind a barrel about 3 feet tall. And when that happens they won't come when you call. The only way to free them is to nudge them out from what they are stuck behind. This happens when there is clear way around the objects they are caught behind. Its some weird glitch. So more than a few times the game comes to a halt and you have to go back and figure out where and what your guys are stuck behind.

Then there were audio glitches where the sound of a machine gun would go on and on and on for no reason until you paused the game. Also if you ran to fast you could see the bad guys generating. So you'd sprint ahead and look into an empty building and then pop suddenly there is a guy there and he is shooting at you.

Go back, buy the first one and then pass on this one.

any game played on the 360 is awesome, but this game was amazing. graphics are great, gameplay is sweet only thing i wish there were more maps. and terrorist hunt needs to allow for more than 4 people while on system link. other than that a 10 for sure

  • No splitscreen in Multiplayer
    By A30N7EXG8VDNRB on 2008-03-20
Contrary to what the developers said about this game, it does not include an online splitscreen mode. You either play online or you play splitscreen. You can have multiple custom characters that can be used in splitscreen which is an improvement over the original rsv.

That is my only complaint thus far with the game. I was a huge fan of rainbow six vegas 1 and I think the maps and co-op story are way better in this version thus far.

Online function isnt as good as Halo, but is improved. Definitely a much better game than its original, so if you liked that, you will have a great time with this one.

  • big time letdown
    By A99DXXLQ02KN4 on 2008-03-22
after achieving basically every challenge in Call of Duty 4 (COD4), i was looking for something new in RB6V2. while i did find something new, it was not for the better and I came to realize just how great COD4 is.

in my opinion, here're some of RB6V2 weaknesses: 1) basically ineffective shot-from-hip shots...COD4 got it right with their "stead-aim" perk; 2) no melee attack...absolutely unacceptable in a FPS; 3) unimpressive graphics...this is year 2008 for goodness' sake; 4) cross-hairs disappear when player is moving...this just makes knowing the aim-point that much harder; 5) unrealistic grenade tosses...the grenade flies like cotton-candy for crying out loud!!; 6) smoke/flash grenades cartoonish...COD4 gets top marks for mimicking these effects; 7) undesirable upgrades...why the heck do i want to spend hours of my time just to get a different color undershirt that only gets covered up with my body armor?; 8) mandatory respawn time...news flash, i don't want to wait 10 sec watching teammates play the game! COD4 gets it right by allowing players to skip the respawn timeout; 9) kill-cam not standard...COD4 gets it right by always showing how a player gets killed while giving the player an option to skip the video if he desires; 10) low-degree of verisimilitude...COD4 is so realistic it could seriously be used as a trainer for infantry-men; 11) manual-intensive multiplayer...RB6V2 makes the same mistake as Gears of War by forcing the player to scroll through a laundry list of games with different hosts...in COD4 i could regularly jump into a game within 30 seconds; 12) cumbersome notification of kills...why the heck should i have to take my eyes of the center of the screen to read some small text that says I made a kill??

i could give more examples, but i don't have the time. if you're looking for the best FPS on the market, it ain't here.

  • Disappointing...
    By AWYIA6MYXBN23 on 2008-03-24
The single player game is good. However if you are expecting a multiplayer experience similar to that of the first Vegas you will be disappointed. New match rules have been added to atack and defend games like a two respawn limit and a special attack and defend match where you disarm the bomb. Respawn limits take the fun out of the game because they literally stop you from playing. The matches end quickly, unlike the A&D matches from Vegas 1 that were played literally until the last seconds of a 20 minute match. And, if I wanted to play a "disarm the bomb" match then I would just play Call of Duty 4. Don't know what they were thinking when they made this one. My advice - stick to the original Vegas and don't spend the extra $60.

  • Much bias on a great game.
    By A17I25ZCUZFYKN on 2008-04-01
The only reason I'm writing this is because, as usual, all the reviewers want to bash this game because CoD4 is "Sooo much better". Yes, CoD4 DOES have a well-done multiplayer, and yes, it DOES have somewhat good gameplay, but it is not without flaw and neither is this game.

I stayed over at my friend's house this weekend and we went out and bought it on Saturday. We stayed up most of the night playing through the campaign, which wasn't very long. Typical with nearly all of today's games besides the MMOs and certain RPGs such as The Elder Scrolls. I found this a great improvement on R6V1, primarily because the story ended completely, the new experience system, and the ability to shoot through walls. I'll split this up for you to make it easier to understand:

    Pros:
Overall I found the gameplay great, we had no known glitches occur (Besides one that happened within killing the VERY FIRST guard on the VERY FIRST level. My character's arm got stuck out at an odd angle where I was shooting my gun using only one hand. This had no real effect on the game though, and cleared up as soon as I died.) and there are lots of opportunities for cooperative play. This is great for people who prefer a more tactical type of gameplay. You've got tons of options for attack, I prefer a silencer and headshots. Although, I did find the enemy a bit tougher and more resistant to damage than you are and that your characters always died much easier than in the original, but you can get used to that and it helps you play better as a whole. What a lot of people don't get is the emphasis this game puts on silent, precise attacks and not just charging into a room, guns blazing, and expecting everything within sight to die or explode. I also found the character customization options very versatile, as far as equipment and clothes go. The facial options aren't very wide, but that doesn't really matter if you're wearing a balaclava or goggles.

    CONS:
Okay, most the reviews I've seen have put this game down simply because "CoD4 is better". That is NOT a con. I will not say this game is bad because another is simply better in most people's opinion. I will, however, say what's bad about it in it's own way.

If you're used to playing the original, you'll notice that the enemies have suddenly become A LOT stronger. And that your own characters have become A LOT weaker. The armors don't affect anything much, my friend was wearing no armor, a tank top, and the cargo pants and he died just as hard as me and I had on the Goliath complete armor. I didn't really see the use in the 'protection and mobility' aspect because they don't really do anything. Sniping is also a bit annoying, I snipe a lot, and I found the lack of semi-automatic rifles difficult. I hate it when you miss that precise first shot and have to zoom out and chamber another round with the bolt actions that seem to dominate your options for long range rifles. The ability to shoot through walls was a bit of a double-sided Pro/Con. Occasionally the enemy will shoot you on cover because it was made of wood, or thin metal, or whatever. It's not that they shouldn't be able to and that you should, it's just that they shoot too precise when they shouldn't be able to see you at all. The game itself may be a con for some people as well, because it's not a shoot'em-up-bang'em-up game. This is NOT a Halo or TimeSplitters where the object of the game is to bunny hop as much as you can and throw grenades or unload your ammo as fast as possible. You have to sneak and use cover more often than actually shooing or running.

Overall, I enjoyed this game a lot, especially the ending because it cleared up loose ends and had a massive firefight. There are some moments *cough*attackhelicopter*cough* when it seems a little unfair or the FPS slows down a lot, but those can be looked over. I had fun with it and I'm sure a lot of over people will too.

  • Dissapointment in Vegas
    By A1ZR8RRX3PN0SO on 2008-04-01
Finally a game where I think that the cover gimmick is perfect and the game is over in the blink of an eye. Clearly this game is just a dressed up online PvP game with a single player mode to provide some training. Just to be clear, fun game, good mechanics, nice level complexity. Co-Op is great as you can invite a friend to join your single player campaign on the fly. The downside is the AI and campaign. Once you figure out the AI it's easy on hard which a game should never be. The story is paper thin and the end scene is stolen from CoD4. If you have a choice pick up CoD4!. If you are a die hard FPS and Rainbow fan then this is a must. All others, I think 60 bones could be better used elsewhere.

  • Yeah! Where is Vegas? Vanilla Levels
    By AHNYRCBNPYS9P on 2008-04-22
I completely agree with the previous reviewers point, where is Las Vegas in this game? My favorite levels in R6V1 were the casino levels, without that you would have just your typical generic shooter terrain and this is what we have in R6V2, there's absolutely no reason to have Vegas in the name. If you're going to have a "sequel" to an amazingly beautiful game like the first one don't let us all down in the same way GRAW2 really blew it with a short storyline and the generic terrain. I played the first one through many times, this one I don't see playing through more than twice so the value is just not there; like most sequels they get you with the first one and phone it in after that, don't pay full price for this game, you can get the first one for five dollars and get a much better game.

The controls are the same as the first one, which worked so well so why change it?

For me the customization is meaningless as I play single player only and to me seems a little tedious with the colors, etc. The weapons are all pretty much the same, one thing I didn't like was the locked weapons and the stupid points system to unlock them, please do this for online only where it makes sense.

But what is with that, if you are a 3 man team saving the world you'll have any weapon you want from the start. It would make more sense to have the advanced weapons available at the more advanced difficulty settings and leave the points crap.
