(62 reviews)

Best Price: $29.99 $24.99

You are Travis Touchdown, a normal guy (with an otaku geek streak) who wins a Beam Katana through an online auction and uses the weapon to start a new career as a professional killer. One day, an assassin named Helter Skelter appears before Travis and the two face off in a battle. Travis emerges victorious and finds himself in the presence of Silvia Christel, a mysterious French woman who claims to be an agent with the UAA. Silvia gives Travis official rank of 11 in the organization. Now, it's up to you to become #1. No More Heroes takes place in the city of Santa Destroy, and you are free to explore the town to your liking, taking on missions large and small to collect money and purchase new weapons as you work up towards the 10 main killing contracts. Gameplay is all about using your Beam Katana (via Wii remote) to defeat enemies. MPN: 17398 - UPC: 008888173984

  • Spectacular, the best original third-party Wii title yet

    By AJKWF4W7QD4NS on 2008-01-23
From the makers of Killer 7, No More Heroes is the anxiously awaited bloodbath that mature Wii owners have been praying for. Playing as eccentric assassin Travis Touchdown, you are armed with your trusty beam katana as you set out to become the best in the business. There is much more to the story than that though, but without giving too much away regarding the game's surprisingly deep and complex story, let's just say that things don't always go as planned for Travis. The first thing you'll notice are undoubtedly the excellent, cell-shaded graphics that No More Heroes sports, along with the best use of the Wii motion controls to come from a third-party yet. The game also features some GTA-inspired free roaming with Travis on a motorcycle, and while it isn't as open-ended as one would hope, the game's serious sense of style and just plain insane story and gameplay elements more than make up for it. The game also has a somewhat jittery frame-rate that can become quite noticable when the action picks up a lot, but this is only a minor complaint thanks to the stylized, over the top action, along with flawless sound design and elements that really take advantage of what the Wii can do, despite the fact that the console isn't a technical powerhouse. All in all, No More Heroes is the absolute best, original third-party title to debut on the Wii yet, and is an absolute essential purchase for Wii owners craving a mature-themed game that leaves a lasting impression.

  • Oozes Style and Baditude

    By A3O5JXIMC4LR on 2008-03-19
I just got to the very end of No More Heroes and thought a review was in order. In one word: fantastic. I haven't had this much fun with a video game since I can't remember when. Sure, there are technically better games, but I don't know of any that are as stylish and flashy without losing good gameplay. It's just outright fun and cool. A bit short, yeah, but I managed to stretch it out to over eighteen hours somehow. (By struggling on bosses and buying more stuff than necessary.)

Let me take on the various arguments against the game:

"The overworld is boring and the bike controls suck."

The overwolrd is not meant to be like Grand Theft Auto. It's just a map for you to traverse to get from one place to another. It's not supposed to be fun, it's just there to link the main areas of the game. It's also kind of a way of putting the boredom of the daily commute against the fantastical life of being an assassin. But yeah, the bike does control badly, but if you don't go too fast or use the running dash in stead, it's not a problem.

"The story doesn't make any sense."

You've never played Killer7 if you think NMH's story makes no sense. The storyline doesn't make sense because at first it's not explained all of what's happening. Seventy percent of the backstory comes in the last mission or so. Then it all becomes clear. Well not clear, but mostly understandable.

    "The fighting controls are bad."

Not really. You tap A to do normal attacks and B to do a stunning kick or grapple and finish off opponenets with a flick of the Wii Remote. You hold the Wii Remote up or down to switch between a high or low stance. It's like any button-masher of old but more fun and intuitive, and those button-mashers weren't accused of having bad controls.

The game goes at a somewhat linear fashion. You slay your way through a boss's lair or general area, take him or her out, take his or her rank, go to the overworld, earn money through jobs and small-time killing gigs to pay for the next match, and repeat. But the bosses themselves are spectacular. They require precise timing and patience to beat. You can't just rush in and swing your sword wildly. You have to learn all their moves, take advantage of their recovery times, and be like the Samurai Travis wishes he was. The bosses are also interesting and unique from a guy that dresses up as a technologically-powered super-hero to a revolver-toting stadium singer. And some of the fights go completely against everything you expect from a standard boss battle. I especially liked rank number 3.

And the music and sound? It goes perfectly with the type of game. Electric instrumentals and driving beats line the halls as you slay your enemies and almost every boss battle track could be considered a favorite of mine. Much of it is very similar to that type of music used in Killer7.

Content-wise, this game's M-rated for a reason. Characters drop the F-bomb on several occasions and there's blood and lots of it. But the graphics are cell shaded and so unrealistic that the violence becomes almost whimsical and never really borders on the side of gory. Honestly, the stuff you see in C.S.I. is worse. And when every few enemies you dispatch yell "My spleen!" it's hard to take it very seriously.

Overall, as I just said, this is a fantastic game. Some may say it's not for them--that it's just not their kind of game, but it sure is my kind of game. And maybe yours, too. From the killer combat system to the plethora of memorable bosses, the sneaked-in 8-bit graphics to Travis's pet cat, I give No More Heroes a Frank Miller's Sin City out of Viewtiful Joe.

  • Slick and Stylish

    By A29BQ6B90Y1R5F on 2008-02-01
    Pros:
    +A tolerable storyline
    +Fantastic Gameplay
    +Beautiful Cel-Shaded graphics
    +Good soundtrack
    +Good voice overs

    Cons:

    -Incredibly short game
-Side jobs inbetween the main missions aren't exciting
-The game is on the easy side
-Despite good Cel-shaded Graphics, more detail could've been put into Santa Destroy

No More Heroes is a stylish game. A game that isn't aimed at the kids by any means but the adult gamer instead. It manages to do so. The humor is crude and the game is incredibly violent. Parents, that's your warning.

In No More Heroes you play the role of Travis Touchdown. As Travis Touchdown you are the newest member of the United Assassins Association. After the battle with the rank ten assassin, Travis decides that he has to be number one. Your goal is pretty simple. Defeat all the assassins and become the number one assassin in Santa Destroy.

No More Heroes lives up to its M Rating perfectly well. Much of the core gameplay is centered around slashing through the levels to the boss at the end. Your main weapon is a Beam Katana. Despite how some third party games have faired in the past, No More Heroes makes excellent use of the Wii's controls. The A button simply swings your Beam Katana while B is used to make kicks. Whenever you reduce an enemies life gauge down, the game enters deathblow mode. In Deathblow Mode, an arrow appears on the screen and you must wave the Wii Remote in that direction to execute a killing blow. Despite which way the arrow points you can really swing the Wii Remote anywhere. There's more to the motion sensor controls. You can grab enemies and perform wrestling moves by shaking the Wii Remote and Nunchuck, and you can get into weapon clashes where you must wave the Wii Remote in order to win. These moments are involving. The game has a fine balance between the motion sensor controls and the normal everyday gameplay.

After your first mission and you're officially admitted into the UAA, you'll have to start paying to partake in the games main missions. This is where No More Heroes slows down considerably. The rank missions are expensive. There are ways to make money around Santa Destroy by doing part time jobs for people, but they're hardly fun. They're mundane jobs like collecting coconuts or mowing lawns. You can do assassination jobs for the UAA which will allow you to be involved in more action, but these missions go by quickly. Finally, there are missions you can go to where the objective is to kill all the bad guys without getting hit once. These missions, however, are over in a flash.

Even worse is exploring Santa Destroy itself. You can cruise around on your stylish bike but there's really nothing to do in Santa Destroy. You can go train around or buy some clothes to change into or you can buy parts for your Beam Katana. Unfortunately, Santa Destroy is a pretty boring place. You can't interact with the denizens and the city is actually relatively empty. You can also hang around your apartment and watch videos to learn new wrestling moves or play with your cat and the like.

However, when you get to play the main missions, the game is a lot of fun, and the missions are long and satisfying, especially the boss battles at the end. The bosses are some of the most fun to be had in the game. They aren't really that hard, however. In fact, the entire game isn't that hard. It's also pretty short. Any devoted gamer should be able to finish the game within a couple of days.

In terms of graphics, No More Heroes opts for style over substance. The cel-shaded graphics look good. A few nostalgic 8-bit moments come out as well, which is obviously part of the style. Despite how good the graphics are, much more could've been done with it. Particularly with the outdoor environments. At least the game sounds good. With some catchy tunes and good voice overs. There are moments when the dialog can be grating but it's tolerable nonetheless.

No More Heroes is one of the best titles you can buy on the Wii. While the moments in between missions are slow, the main game itself is fantastic with some good production values. A little more could've been done to improve the game overall, but the end result is fantastic.

  • Style and Personality

    By A19SE2ZAH016LT on 2008-01-25
First of all, this is a mature title and it's a welcome change of pace from all the "casual" games out there on the Wii. There is blood and mature language, but it's in the style of of what you may have seen in the Kill Bill films. This game is totally over the top and it's funny. It's all about the intense combat, strange characters, witty dialog, wicked sense of humor and overall visual anime-style look of the game.

There are tons of combat maneuvers you can perform with the Wiimote and Nunchuck. Make sure to do the beginning tutorial as once you are done, you will have the controls figured out. The combat is a mix of sword fighting with wrestling type maneuvers (Suplex, Piledriver, Powerslam, etc). The combat never gets boring due to all the variations and moves you can perform (and upgrades). You can charge up your sword swings, stun, block, evade, grab and throw along with combos. It's incredibly refreshing and fun. When you defeat an enemy using a finishing move, little slots at the bottom of the screen start to spin (like a mini jackpot machine) and if you match three slot icons, you will go into 1 of 5 special uber modes for a short period of time. Very cool and different.

After defeating the first boss (shortly after the beginning tutorial), you won't have enough money to pay the Entry Fee of the next Boss fight. So, you will have to do side-jobs, free fight and assassination missions to earn money. You drive your motorcycle around the city to get to the various jobs and missions and stores. I want to point out that this "over world" is strictly to allow you to get from mission to mission or various shops and it's not intended to be like Grand Theft Auto where it's an open "sandbox" where you can do anything you want. But, after defeating the second and third bosses, you will find that there is a lot to do in the city as quite a bit is opened up to you by then.

You can customize your character by going to the clothing store (named Area 51) and purchasing new T-shirts, Jackets, Jeans, Belts and Sunglasses. You can purchase beam Katana upgrades or different types of Katana's from Naomi's lab. You can upgrade your character by learning new wrestling grapple moves (learn by renting videos). There is even a fitness club where you upgrade your strength, health and amount of combos you can pull off. What is unique is that it makes you do all the training movements like lifting the Wiimote and Nunchuck as if they are fitness equipment (Dumbbell, Squats, Bench Press and more).

There are a few hidden items to find by exploring the environment such as Lovikov Balls (used to increase your abilities at a trainer) and money.

You can go back to your motel and just hang out and put on different clothing and watch videos (first one available is the original trailer for the game). You can go to the video store (Beef Head Video) and purchase other videos.

Definitely check this game out. NOTE: After you defeat the second boss, a lot of stuff opens up for you to do in the environment - basically, the game keeps giving you more to do after each boss - you will not get bored. This game has style and personality and you will have not played anything like this before. It's that original. You can tell that the developer, Suda 51 put a lot of heart and soul into this game and truly enjoyed making it.

  • Overall, It's just not that great.

    By A2XFFH93H5UZ35 on 2008-01-24
I really wanted to love this game. I reserved it and picked it up the first day. But, I've played it and I found it to be a huge disappointment. It does have merit. Visually it's great. The story is awesome, as are the characters. It's bloody, rude, and crude. But, when it comes down to it, the gameplay is just plan boring. There is very little challenge and almost all the enemies look the same. You push the A button to swing and then it goes into a finishing move where you have to swing the remote in the direction of the arrow on the screen. This is all great fun, until you realize it doesn't really matter which way you wave the remote. You just waggle it, like so many other Wii games and you'll get your finishing move pretty much every time. Then for getting to missions it makes you drive around GTA style, but there is nothing interesting to do in the city. You just drive from place to place and it is completely pointless and boring. The game is worth a rental, but I can't see any reason to buy this game. The reviewers got this one wrong, the game is fun to look at, but overall it gets boring quick. A real bummer.

  • A breath of fresh bloody air for the Wii
    By A3580MEV7AUESE on 2008-01-24
While the fighting controls aren't as in-depth or varied as I'd like it to be, overall this is a great game. It's in-your-face, fun and a nice change of pace from all the shovelware that is out for the Wii. Support 3rd party developers for the Wii bu buying this game!

  • Why most reviews of this game are wrong.
    By A21353HMI0KQ75 on 2008-02-09
This isn't really a review so much as a few comments detailing the misconceptions that might arise from reading various reviews of No More Heroes. I have also added my own views on what made this game not as totally awesome as I had initially expected (for the benefit of the potential reader, of course; no need to thank me, I consider myself a real life hero of sorts).

    1)
You might read (I'm too lazy to cite sources) in the occasional review that this game is short. This is an understatement. I beat the game in under 10 hours, obtaining every possible augmentation for the beam katana, every wrestling move (I think), every fitness upgrade. This is not something that should happen in a game I shelled out $50 for. I should have to complete so many story-related missions to finish the main game that I get sick of it, leave the game in my closet for a couple of decades, then resell it on eBay as a collectors item for oodles of cash (or PayPal or whatever).

    2)
This is not GTA. There is no reason to complain about not being able to run around while decapitating hookers. It's not an open-ended exploration game with multiple branching choice tree...things. It's a third-person action game, that's made in such a stupid way as to give gullible gamers the illusion of nonlinearity. Yeah, there's not enough to do in the town (which is unnecessarily huge, by the way), but you shouldn't have to do much anyway. Unless you spend all your money on clothes (in which case I pity you), you shouldn't have to complete more than a few side missions in order to obtain the cash necessary to upgrade your weapon (and yourself), as well as buy your way into the next ranked fight.

    3)
If you had to murder your way through 20 hours worth of generic sword-wielding men in black business suits, then you can complain about repetition. If the indiscriminate killing is under 10 hours, then it's still fun. Especially since all those fights are just warm-ups for the boss battles. Which, by the way, are awesome. They're truly the highlight of the game and the only reason I gave it 3 stars.

    4)
The plot doesn't make any sense, so don't even bother with it. Some of the dialog is funny, but Travis has a terrible voice actor and his delivery is always off. Most of the villains are pretty good though, so it balances out.

    5)
Teh graphics suck. Really. GTA 3 on the PS2 looks just as good. After playing Super Mario Galaxy I can see that you can do better on the Wii.

Stylistically speaking, the whole 8-bit, retro menu thing is kinda' lame. It would go well with crisp, beautiful graphics, but with the stuff No More Heroes is showing, the menus only remind me of how ugly the rest of the game looks.

If I were the kind of person to summarize instead of writing long, rambling and incoherent behemoth reviews, I'd say that No More Heroes is worth a rental, but I wouldn't plan on having it last until Brawl comes out.

  • So much fun!
    By A3NPBWDZDEZLU0 on 2008-01-24
If you guys have been waiting for a true mature videogame for the Wii and don't think remakes like RE4 Wii and Umbrella Chronicles are cutting it for you, No More Heroes is where you want to be.

Man this game is awesome and so much fun. Travis Touchdown is going to be among the most quoted videogame characters for the rest of 2008 and the over the top violence is just a blast.

The graphics are like Killer7 but the gameplay is much better and it never gets old swinging your wii-mote around decapitating the evil henchmen of the assassins. It's so totally worth you money!

  • Fairly disappointing
    By A1WM97HIZTKY62 on 2008-03-26
I guess a lot of people seem to really like this game, but I couldn't figure out why. The graphics are actually quite dull for the most part. The "shading" is actually just ugly pure black sections of otherwise completely lit people and doesn't look like shading at all because there is nothing between solid black and glowingly lit. The backgrounds are simple and thoroughly unimaginative, and the characters aren't very interesting either. Not a single thing in this game looked truly original and I just felt like I had seen it all before... some of it 20 years ago. People seem to be impressed with the level of gore for a Wii game, but I guess those people haven't played Resdient Evil 4, Manhunt 2, or House of the Dead 2 & 3 because this game seriously pales in comparison as far as the violence is concerned. Basically, a giant inexplicable red cloud bursts out of your enemies as they turn into a bunch of coins. Maybe if they shattered into body parts I would actually consider calling it graphic, but coins just aren't my idea of violent. All the tons of random red bursts and spurts obviously suggest blood, but don't resemble it in any real way. To say that "No More Heroes" is the mature title Wii owners have been waiting for is really absurd... I've seen children's cartoons that were more graphic than this. Resident Evil 4, which came out much earlier, completely puts this shallow and lazily animated game to shame. You're forced to navigate the city on your rather cumbersome bike, which controls so poorly that it's much more obnoxious than fun. The entire city could just be a menu where you select what you want and move on instead of wasting all this time "driving" to what you want to do next. The controls are fairly pathetic: you're supposed to follow the on-screen cues (which I never thought was a very good use of the motion sensors to begin with) but in reality all you have to do is shake your remote real fast and it will work for any of the on-screen cues, rendering them completely pointless. There are some things that I enjoyed about this game, like some of the humor and certain aspects of its style, but overall it just wasn't very fun to play. A true waste of a good Wii in my opinion; there are MUCH better games out there.

Graphics - Unimaginative characters, atrocious shading, and backgrounds that belong in the early 90's

Violent content - COINS? Are you kidding me? COINS?!?!

Gameplay - Flail the remote around and you've now mastered the motion controls, no matter what pops up on the screen

Humor - Scattered bits and pieces to make you smirk... certainly nothing to warrant a real laugh

  • Way overrated
    By A3TD2LUODV5KPV on 2008-03-05
This was a huge letdown. I read so many reviews about how great this game was so I forked over $50 expecting to be rewarded with a great fighting game for the Wii. First off what's good: the humor and the way the Wii controller is used as a cell phone. That's about it really. Now the bad: The level design is horrid and boring. I guess the designers felt that if they put this stylized filter over it they wouldn't have to do things like texture anything or design a level more complicated than a square room, multiplied ten times. Not to mention you get clipped by invisible objects and the camera can't follow you in tight corridors. You actually disappear off screen and just have to imagine you can actually see your character. The 'light saber' is cool in theory, but unfortunately you don't have to employ any kind of skill or strategy to win in battle. Just mash the A button over and over and press other buttons at random. You'll basically kill every enemy. To sum it up I'd like write to every magazine that gave this a good review and have them pony up some cash to help me recoup my losses.

  • Wii Are Happy Now..........
    By A2NZWYHT9EQPCL on 2008-01-23
This is the must play game for any Wii owner. The key factor in this (AWESOME) game is the amazing look it has. Sure it might look like another Killer 7 title but it's not, it's a much better experience. NO MORE HEROES has this GTA feeling to it, imagine that, GTA on the Wii. In fact you must play this game or people will think that you're not cool anymore and you don't want that to happen, do you?.

  • Serious fun, but at a price.
    By A2N60VDBR10N18 on 2008-01-24
No More Heroes is the most stylish game to yet grace the wii. The action is fast, and fun without getting boring. The level design is wonderfully original. And the boss fights are among the best you'll ever have the pleasure to play. The only problem is getting there.

To afford the fantastic ranking missions you have to navigate through a huge, and largely empty, city to complete boring side jobs with no retry option. If you lose these often frusturating jobs you have to go back to the agency, re-apply, drive back to the mission site, and try again. this gets old fast.

But if you can ignore this minor issue you are in store for one of the most hardcore, visceral, and enjoyable games you will ever play.

  • Frustratingly Inconsistent but Still Fun
    By A2ZM6XG9QERQEI on 2008-02-04
This game is a lot of fun but is seriously lacking in consistency. The game swings wildly from ridiculously easy to incredibly boring to insanely difficult. I am about a third of the way through on mild mode which is the second difficulty level. Here is what falls into each category for me. Ridiculously easy: The battles leading up to the bosses. I don't think I took more than one damage the entire way to the boss. Incredibly boring: Driving around town; maybe I haven't gotten far enough, but there isn't really anything interesting to do between bosses. Insanely Difficult: The first and third bosses; after getting through the enemies before them without a scratch I am repeatedly destroyed. One reason for this is the games heavy reliance on z button targeting, which makes it extremely difficult to use the control stick because you must constantly hold down the z button in order to block and dodge.
While many things about this game are extremely fun, the fact that I waste the guards and then murdered repeatedly by the bosses makes me wish I could turn the former up a notch and the latter down. I also wished that the down time was less monotonous, because it requires you to repeatedly motorcycle from point to point in the city, which while at first is novel, becomes super boring after about 15 seconds.
In short, if you are more patient and skilled than I, you may find this game fantastic, but for me it has just been a rollercoaster of annoyance, brief fun, and frustration. Maybe there is some secret that I am missing which will make the game more enjoyable. Alas, for now I cannot fully recommend it.

  • No More Life
    By A9TWY9SLKVDXN on 2008-01-26
I discovered this game about 6 months ago or so on Wikipedia, and I've been waiting for it ever since. I have to say it definately fulfilled my expectations and is an awesome, addicting game. Probably the best out there right now so I encourage everyone to get it.

You probably know the story by now, so I'll skip going over that again, and dive right in. The motion controls are great. I know someone said that you just waggle the wiimote or nunchuk, but I found that not to be true to a degree. I say to a degree, because most people don't realize the Wiimote and nunchuk use motion sensing by something in them. There's something in them, and when you move them, that thing moves in the opposite direction and presses against something. So if you move it down, the thing flies up and hits a sensor/button. So if you move it too hard, the thing will fly down then fly up once you stop your motion, causing it to think you've moved it down. This can sometimes trigger the motion (I've only had it during the dumbbells or squats in the game, but it happens in Madden if you snap the ball too hard). But I've never had this in combat, and trust me, I sometimes twist the wiimote or nunchuk and swing it, and it wouldn't register, but seeing that was my stupid fault, I wasn't mad. It was nice that the motion controls kept me having to do it right.

The combat is fun. You fight huge groups of people with your bemam katana and wrestling moves. You can pretty much kill the people two ways. Slash em until their life falls and a finishing move can be done (slashing the wiimote in a direction) or doing a wrestling move (done by moving the nunchuk and wiimote in a, sometimes separate, direction) and then killing them when they're out. You can also lock swords and stuff with people and need to move the wiimote in a circle to force em back and stuff.

The main assassination missions are great. They get longer and harder as you progress. The one I just completed (making me #7) took me 52 minutes. The bosses are over the top and great, each one being different so you don't just hack and slash throughout, you have to learn a pattern and fight them. Something else that's nice, the fights are actually styled and kind of movie like. Normally games require movies for that, but this game doesn't. It's nice. The side missions aren't as boring as some people make them, and there's always assassination or free fight missions too that will give you a nice change.

Now, there are some short comings, but being that this is Suda's first Wii game, there's room to grow. Look at GTAIII (since the game keeps incorrectly being compared to GTA), it's lacking compared to VC and SA. Sometimes when driving around the city, the graphics kinda seem blocky and jump a bit. The city also is kind of dead, but if there's a sequel, this stuff can easily be fixed. Besides, the main game provides enough fun that it's not that big a deal. Get this game!

  • This game rocks!
    By A1CX5JZD7J6M0N on 2008-01-28
This is a game the older Wii game players will love. If I had to sum it up to someone it would be Kill Bill meets Grand Theft Auto. The game looks great and has a sense of Japanese style to it. If you are looking for a fun action game with a ton of blood...a ton...then pick this up! It's well worth it!

  • One of the best third party games
    By A18XT5TGH7P57R on 2008-01-30
I have been waiting for this game ever since the director announced it would be more violent then manhunt 2. This game was just incredible in everyway once I bought it I couldnt stop playing it. The story is hilarious and the kills are phenomenal. I just beat the game and Im already playing it again. Suda 51 should be given an award and hes already working on another game for wii along with nintendo and Im already counting the days to buy that. I just hope to god theres a sequel on the way. BUY THE GAME NOW

  • Finally, a mature game for the wii thats just oodles of fun
    By A1RKOYP6ISRCOT on 2008-02-11
This game is a must for any wii owner who loves action oriented games, but not so much action that its pointless hack and slash. No More Heroes has implemented the wiimote perfectly, and is a constant thrill.

Basiclly you use the nunchuck scroll pad to move around, and A on the wiimote to slash. However, depending on how you are holding the wiimote at all times, your slash will be high or low. The enemies are guarding themselves high or low, so its up to you to break their, well guard to hit them. You may also try to stun them with the B button, and if you press B again you can do a "wrestling" move on them, where you must jerk both the wiimote and nunchuck in a certain direction, although both directions may be different so be careful not to smash your fingers together :P

Another bonus is the ability to do wacky side jobs like cocoanut collecting or lawn mowing in order to earn extra money (Because it aint free to do ranked battles, and youre sure to get tired of your outfit, so youve got to buy a new one) You can buy new sunglasses, pants, belts, tshirts and weapons/weapon upgrades. Thats how far Ive gotten so far, there may be more.

You get around town by cruisin around on your bike, and if you flip the wiimote you can do wheelies :P

During fights it should be noted you occasionally have to recharge your beam katana, but it only adds to the fun. Enemies release $ when killed (and a lot of blood)

  • It's okay

I like this game to a point, but it DOES want to be the next Grand Theft Auto, whether the developers or fans want to admit it. The problem is that the "hub" city is boring as hell. It's desolate (which is kind of cool), but there's not much to do (which is NOT cool). The fights are fun, but it seems like you have to go through a lot of b.s. just to get into a decent fight. I've been playing it on and off for a couple months, but - in the end - my feeling about this game is that I just don't care if I finish it or not. It pretty much makes me wish I was dead already.

  • not good, not even close!
    By A3K6RMKKC5RBLS on 2008-08-25
OK - this game is bad, real bad...as in not well made. The graphics are pretty nasty, yes "artistic" is one word, but the overall effect is that these guys were on a slim budget. Speaking of which, the budget must have been really small considering the amount of bugs this game has in it. Just try running around the city and messing with the physics of the main character and/or bike. I once got the bike caught on a curb, and seeing through walls...no problem...just walk up, move the camera, and x-ray vision thou shalt have! Bad level design, nothing to do in the city, just run...zzzzz. This game isn't even close to as interactive as GTA and that's not saying much, considering GTA could have been alot more interactive...but that's another story. Put it this way, if you run into someone with your bike, you get a gameboy era 'thud' sound and your bike stops, nothing happens to the pedestrian...nothing...they are solid like statue...or tree...or whatever...this sucks!

So whats good about this game...well the story is ok...just buthead humor...I guess its good if your entering your teens!? The concept is not new, the retro menus and sound effects are cool, but blocky and rushed looking. Ahhh....the control system....yes...thats why this game is supposed to be good...well again...not really...just repeatedly hit the A button over and over and over...oh yea you can adjust a high or low hit too...wow cool:-( Seriously - you can rent this game with no commitment. Defintely not one to keep in your collection. Sorry, but I really don't need anymore heroes.

Hope this review was helpful to you...save your bucks for the games that really deserve your hard earned dollars.

  • Solid and begging for a sequel
    By A1VVTO050Y039R on 2008-02-06
Its a solid game... bit short, but its a testament to the Wii's ability to produce a solid game for a mature audience. The mini games are bizzare and original while the bosses a phenomenally creative and diverse. The graphics look great (and shush, all you "I don't like cell shading" whiners... you all had the same gripe about windwaker and totally overlooked an amazing game with amazing graphics due to your narrow scope of great potential innovations in art). All in all, the only complaint one might have for this game is the brevity. This game can be dusted in about 10 hours on easy... but the harder settings provide a solid 15-20 hours of unique gameplay, and a storyline laced with peculiar characters and childishly adult dialogue. For those of you considering finally venturing into the Wii's 3rd party line up... I would say this would be a wise first step

So, it's like this. You mash the A button and then swing the remote and some guy's head comes off and you're mashing the A button again before you swing the remote and asplode a guy into, like, a pile of blood. Pretty soon, you're in a hallway with a line of homicidal baseball guys who're throwing balls and you're swinging the remote and punching that ball through their line, killing nine people like Casey at bat. Then this old guy's all pistols and smokes and talking about his daughter and a restaurant and you're all, "Screw this," so you cut him down because he was the next highest ranked assassin and you're not taking grief from anyone.

And then you're back to work the next day mowing the yards of Santa Destroy and kicking open dumpsters to steal old T-shirts and driving your superbike all over pedestrians who need to learn that you're the number uno in this town. But you need more money so you takes some minor hitjobs and kill a few more guys to credit your bank account to kill the next assassin, but not before watching some luchedore videos so you can piledrive this little schoolgirl you're about to fight.

Totally every bizarre, amazing gameplay concept I could ever want thrown into one game.

  • Strange Game, it's Love/Hate - Hit/Miss
    By A29SIMNI1CU30I on 2008-03-26
The developers certainly spent a lot of time working on the game. The cel-shaded graphics are well done and the controls are pretty well refined. The plot and atmosphere of the game are... odd. It plays out like some Japanese anime where pieces of the plot are loosely connected and inconsequential tangents are plentiful. The game will leave you wondering what exactly just happened.

The game is playing in two intermingling styles, missions and sandbox:

The mission parts progress the plot, but after a while slicing up henchmen gets repetitive, even though the finishing moves are dramatic and give the action a lot of flair. There are certainly some exceptions to this, but for the most part, levels revolve around killing henchmen. The boss fights are quite well done. Each boss is completely unique and the particular art style allows the game to blend together cutscenes, gameplay, and quicktime events in a completely fluid manner.

The sandbox parts feel tacked on and are quite disruptive to the flow of the missions. The sandbox portions only provide you with more menial tasks to do while you wait for the next mission. I certainly did not enjoy mowing the lawn or picking up trash. The city is quite empty and lifeless, unlike GTA3. The character development parts are also quite annoying. I did not feel attached to Travis and only worked on his stats because it would make killing henchmen quicker.

Overall it didn't click with me, but I can see how someone could love this game.

    Good:
    * Boss fights are exciting
    * Killing in a bloody manner is initially fun

    Bad:
    * Missions repetitive
    * Character development feels more like a chore

Keep in mind before you buy:
    * You do not shake the controller like a sword to attack, you press the A button. You do use the motion sensing functionality in certain circumstances.
    * The game is reasonably short. I would say 15 hours or so.

  • If Quenton Tarantino made a video game this is what it would look like.

I loved the game all the way through. Great on many levels. So simple and yet has many tiny things most wouldn't notice till mentioned. The game is excellent. Stylish to the max

  • This game is DA BOMB!!!!!!!!! ( In an excellent way)
    By A1027EV8A9PV1O on 2008-07-11
This is the best 3rd party game I have played for WII. The graphics and storyline are done superb. No more heroes is one of the only adult theme games that is on the WII. Other games use violences meaninglessly to fill game contain but this game is not only of them. The control action of the WII remote and chuck is remarkable. If you like games with great plot and action than Heroes is a must. Get this game you will not regret it!!!!!

  • Great adult game for the Wii
    By AGPXWSL7RC6X0 on 2008-07-22
The Wii has very few adult games. This is one the better if not the best one so far. The game play, while a bit repetative and not too clean graphicly, is always fun and involving. The story is really the best part of it. You fight to become the top ranked assassin, so you can "do it" with your liason Silvia. The game is a laugh riot. With jerking off your beam katana to recharge it, splitting your enemies in half to be showered in blood, and getting naked to train with your master. Not alot of thought involved, just your good old fashioned crude adult humor. A must have for those of you who "bought a Wii for the kids" and secretly play it when they go to bed.

  • Great Game!

Bought this game for my husband and he love this game. I'm glad he really enjoy this game.

  • Stylin'
    By AXHR94EVPADQG on 2008-02-07
Playing "No More Heroes" is a can't miss treat which oozes style, eccentric characters, and fun. The boss fights are easily the best part of the game with memorable characters that run the gamut of samurai schoolgirl to a Darth Vader wannabe. In between bosses, however, there is a sandbox mode where you can workout at the gym, buy new clothes, buy beam katanas, rent videos to learn new wrestling moves, and find various oddjobs to pay the fee required to battle the assassins. With regards to the sandbox mode I would say it isn't well-designed but it works with only one or two minor problems, it isn't meant to be very interesting because its purpose seems to be in order to serve as an illustration of the hum-drum world juxtaposed against Travis's fantastical adventure. The combat is deeply satisfying without being particularly deep thanks in part to its fast-paced nature and way over the top(but not gruesome and horrifying) deaths and bloodletting. The graphics aren't the best the Wii has too offer but it has style: it uses color, sound effects, and visual effects in a consistent and highly enjoyable manner.

If none of the above has convinced you to buy this game yet I would like to say that its one of the extremely few games I've beaten more than once just for the sake of reliving the experience.

  • Great use of the Wiimote
    By A1W8BDPG9N18CL on 2008-02-12
This is a great game. It is fun to play and each endboss has their own unique characteristic. It uses the wiimote controller to its full extent when finishing off a character, doing a wrestling move or getting out of a jam, you need to use the wiimote by moving it in the direction it shows on screen. Be warned, that if playing a lot may cause a little strain on your hand if you don't rest once in awhile. I would definitely recommend this game overall.
